Then the Lord said to Satan, “HAVE YOU CONSIDERED MY SERVANT JOB, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?” So Satan answered the Lord and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing? Have You not made A HEDGE AROUND HIM, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? (Job 1:8-10 NKJV)

Beloved, when it comes to the challenges that life throws at one, rather than asking God all the time why all these things are happening to me, one should be asking the all-important question – who am I and what it is about me that the devil is trying so hard to get rid of or frustrate?

The enemy knows exactly who you are. He told the sons of Sceva… I KNOW JESUS, AND I KNOW PAUL, BUT WHO ARE YOU? (Acts 19: 15 NLT). When Jesus was born, Herod passed a decree to kill all the male children born around that time because he knew that Jesus was a threat to him (Matthew 2:16 NKJV) but thank God nothing can stop those whom He has ordained. Even Moses hid in the house of the same enemy that wanted him dead until it was time.

Beloved, whether you like it or not, the devil knows and considers every Christian. Our feature text lets us know that he considered Job. To consider means to ‘think carefully about something, typically before making a decision’. This tells me that the devil thought carefully about Job’s situation. Who knows? He may have tried to gain access to Job but then felt a HEDGE AROUND HIM. The NLT says…You have ALWAYS put a wall of protection around him and his home and his property…

As far as Job was concerned, he was going about his business trying to live a blameless and upright life not knowing negotiations were taking place over his life, family and property. The devil knew who Job was – one with God’s hedge of protection around him. The Lord also knew who Job was and what He had placed in him and He said to satan, OK, give it your best shot and see what happens

Beloved… no temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; BUT GOD IS FAITHFUL, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it (1 Corinthians 10:13 NKJV).

Every child of God is considered based on the effect that they will have on the kingdom of darkness and it’s a big mistake if you are not covered. The sons of Sceva know this well because they had no covering and as a result… Then the man with the evil spirit leaped on them, overpowered them, and attacked them with such violence that they fled from the house, naked and battered (Acts 19:16 NLT).

Beloved, reflecting back on your life Journey, have you been faced with major challenges that you don’t understand? WHO ARE YOU?

God bless you in Jesus Christ name
