O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever (Psalm 136:1 AMP).

Beloved, I just woke up from sleep after the past few days of busyness and sleepless night and “give thanks with a grateful heart” was the first thing that what was impressed in my spirit. Indeed, we have every reason to be thankful to God. He has done great things for us. Many things have happened this year. Lives and properties have been lost through accidents, disasters, illnesses etc. Amidst all these, we are still counted among the living and that is good reason to show appreciation to God.

It’s not because we are more perfect, holy or beautiful than those who have died, but the grace and mercies of God have carried us this far. Things might not have gone the way we expected or wanted, but in all that, God has still been faithful to us. Just take a minute and begin to take stock of your life from January till now and you will realise how gracious God has been to you.

David said… Blessed be the Lord, Who daily loads us with benefits, The God of our salvation! Selah (Psalm 68:19 NKJV). Can you imagine that? That’s 6 months’ worth of benefits. Isn’t that amazing? Many times we focus on what we are still waiting for that we fail to appreciate what the Lord does on a daily basis. The Amplified Bible says He… bears our burdens and carries us day by day, even the God Who is our salvation! Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

David told his soul not to forget all the benefits he has received from God (Psalm 103:2). He has healed our diseases, forgiven our sins, redeemed our souls from the pit and crowned us with love and compassion. That’s worth giving thanks to the Lord for.

Why don’t you take some time off on this first day of the week and say “Lord, I thank you for how far you have brought me thus far. Remember in all things and in every circumstance, we are to give thanks to God (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

Beloved, begin to count your blessings and name them one by one, and you will be surprised what the Lord has done. If you still feel you have nothing to be thankful to God for, at least remember you still have life.

Thank God! He deserves your thanks. His love never quits. Thank the God of all gods, His love never quits. Thank the Lord of all lords. His love never quits (Psalm 136:1-3 MSG).
