And He allowed no one to go with Him… except Peter and James and John the brother of James. They came to the house of the synagogue official; and He looked [with understanding] at the uproar and commotion, and people loudly weeping and wailing [in mourning]. When He had gone in, He said to them, “Why make a commotion and weep? The child has not died, but is sleeping.” They began laughing [scornfully] at Him [because they knew the child was dead]. But He made them all go outside, and took along the child’s father and mother and His own [three] companions, and entered the room where the child was (MARK 5:37‭-‬40 AMP).

Beloved, I recently heard someone rightly say that on a construction site, only contractors are allowed on site. This made me think because you may have probably come across some construction sites where you see signs displayed that say; “only contractors allowed on site or on the premises”. What the sign is basically saying is that only the people that have a part to play in the construction of this building are allowed on site.

How does this apply to us? Now, first of all, who is a contractor? According to an online dictionary, a contractor is one that contracts to perform work or provide supplies. A contractor is one that contracts to erect buildings. What this means for us is that while the Lord has us on the Porters wheel to mould and shape us, only those that He has sent to build us up should be allowed on site.

In our feature text, we see that as Jesus went on to do a work on Jairus’ dead daughter, He had to send everybody away apart from Peter, James, John and the parents of the girl. He probably didn’t want any of that negativity around Him. The same applies to you. Yes, you can’t isolate yourself from people and yes, you need counsel from people, but this means that you should only allow those with constructive criticism on site and get rid of those that only pull you down or tear you apart.

Beloved, the Bible says… Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life (Proverbs 4:23 NLT). You don’t just want anyone in and out of your site. You have got to guard it.

We are all work in progress. The Bible says that…being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; (Philippians 1:6 NKJV).

This talks of the beginning (began) of the construction work and the end (complete) but the middle can be messy. Oh yes, construction sites can be messy and there are times when only the builders and contractors understand what is currently going in the midst of the mess and they are the ones that can see the finished product even in the midst of all that mess. So, from today, let this be the sign on your forehead; “Only contractors allowed on site”. Remember; Guard your heart above all else.

On that day I lifted up My hand and swore to them to bring them out of the land of Egypt to a land that I had SEARCHED OUT for them, flowing with milk and honey, [a land] which is an ornament and a glory to all lands (Ezekiel 20:6 AMPC).

Beloved, as I was reading‎ this verse, the phrase that stood out to me was ‘SEARCHED OUT’. This means the Lord took His precious time to search out the best of the land for His children. Isn’t that amazing? The New Living Translation says… a land I had DISCOVERED AND EXPLORED for them—a good land, a land flowing with milk and honey, the best of all lands anywhere.

DISCOVERED AND EXPLORED… Isn’t that amazing? It just goes to show you the Lord’s desires for us.

I remember someone who just became a born-again Christian being so afraid to pursue her dreams and when I asked her why, she said it was because she didn’t want the Lord to be angry with her. She said it and I was left thinking; “What are you on about? What impression have you really got about the Lord?”

The Bible says… Beloved, I pray that in every way YOU MAY SUCCEED AND PROSPER and be in good health [physically], just as [I know] your soul prospers [spiritually] (3 John 2 AMP)?

This means the Lord wants you to prosper. However, what He doesn’t want is for you to make idols of things. We read in the Bible where concerning the Israelites, the Lord said… Then I said to them, ‘Each of you, get rid of the vile images you are so obsessed with. Do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt, for I am the Lord your God.’ (Ezekiel 20:7 NLT). This is where your desires have to be in alignment with His. Hence the reason He says… Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and petitions of your heart (Psalm 37:4 AMP). This means the Lord will plant His desires for you in your heart.

‎I remember listening to someone saying what the things they have now is working for them but the day they start working for those things, then those things would have to go. In order words, don’t let the things that you possess possess you.

Beloved, it is only a religious spirit that would make you think that the Lord doesn’t want you to prosper but you must break that religious spirit. Don’t limit yourself… For as he thinks in his heart, so is he… (Proverbs 23:7 NKJV).

Please know today that the Lord has only the best in mind for you… For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11 AMP).

…that I may know Him [experientially, becoming more thoroughly acquainted with Him, understanding the remarkable wonders of His Person more completely] and [in that same way experience] the power of His resurrection [which overflows and is active in believers], and [that I may share] the fellowship of His sufferings, by being continually conformed [inwardly into His likeness even] to His death [dying as He did]; so that I may attain to the resurrection [that will raise me] from the dead (Philippians 3:10-11 AMP)

Beloved, in our feature text, Apostle Paul is saying he wants to experientially know Christ and experience the power of His resurrection meaning one may have to experience some sort of death to be RAISED.

Now, the Bible introduces us to Lazarus who experienced Christ’ resurrecting power. Jesus was close to Lazarus’ family but when He got the message that Lazarus was sick, He intentionally delayed coming to their rescue. He was waiting for Lazarus to die so that He could demonstrate His resurrection power.

Beloved, how does this apply to you? Are you waiting for Jesus to HEAL things in your life while His plan is for you to experience a RESURRECTION? Jesus had his eye on Lazarus’s situation the whole time, but He was waiting for him to die first before He made a move (John 11:7).

Maybe you are asking the Lord to heal a relationship, but Jesus is waiting for your pride and temper to die so that the relationship can be resurrected. Maybe you have been saying “Lord, use me for Your mighty work” but He is waiting for your selfish ambition to die so that He can resurrect His purpose in your life. You say; “Lord, I want to get married or I want a happy home to come back to” but He’s waiting for that lifestyle of sexual immorality to die first.

Beloved, the Bible says… if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; OLD THINGS HAVE PASSED AWAY… Now, when someone dies, we say they have PASSED AWAY (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV). Apostle Paul used to be known as Saul but when he became born again, Saul passed away and Paul was resurrected.

So, how much of that old man has PASSED AWAY? Is BEFORE and AFTER still the same? Would people give up if they tried to play the ‘spot the difference’ puzzle on you? What needs to die so that you can experience the mighty power that raised Jesus from the dead?

Beloved, the other thing is that yesterday, I had the opportunity of visiting the tomb of Lazarus and as I walked down the stairs and back up again, I began to think about the fact that it must have taken a little while for Lazarus to have walked up these stairs. This means that the fact that you could be experiencing a delay in a certain aspect of your life does not mean that Jesus hasn’t spoken life to that situation. The delay also serves a purpose; producing humility, patience, endurance – which is you being continually conformed inwardly into His likeness.

Shalom!

But the Lord hurled a powerful wind over the sea, causing a violent storm that threatened to break the ship apart. Fearing for their lives, the desperate sailors shouted to their gods for help and threw the cargo overboard to lighten the ship. But all this time Jonah was sound asleep down in the hold (Jonah 1:4-5 NLT).

Beloved, referring to our feature text, I remember when someone said; “THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SHIP… THE PROBLEM IS YOU, JONAH. Stop running from the Lord and go and answer the call. Stop putting your family and people around you through pain and answer to the call.

Jonah was sent by the Lord to warn the city of Nineveh because they were in a very bad way and He could not ignore it any longer. But you know what Jonah did. He got up and went the other direction to Tarshish, running away from God. As if you can hide from the Lord. Like King David said… Is there anyplace I can go to avoid your Spirit? to be out of your sight? If I climb to the sky, you’re there! If I go underground, you’re there! If I flew on morning’s wings to the far western horizon, You’d find me in a minute—you’re already there waiting (Psalm 139:7-9 MSG)!

You know Jonah’s story. The Lord sent a huge storm at sea and it disturbed everyone on the ship and the question is; “Why put the people around you through unnecessary storms because of your disobedience? It’s possible that the storm you are experiencing is not going to be still until you heed to the voice of the Lord which you may already know.

Beloved, Jonah said, “Throw me overboard, into the sea. Then the storm will stop. It’s all my fault. I’m the cause of the storm. Get rid of me and you’ll get rid of the storm (Jonah 1:12 MSG) and immediately they threw him into the raging sea, the storm stopped. And then there was a huge fish waiting to swallow Jonah. He needed some cooling off period to decide whether he was going to come to his senses.

Beloved, could the Lord be speaking to you? Don’t let them throw you out of that country, home or even marriage before you know it’s time to heed the call of the Lord on your life. Is finance your problem? Don’t worry. Jonah got free transportation to where the Lord had sent him as opposed to the fact that he had to pay his own fares when he went off to Tarshish after his own agenda.

Jesus said… The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask Him to send more workers into His fields (Matthew 9:37-38 NLT).

Today, I pray that we all heed to the Lord’s call and as we do so the Lord will quieten every storm raging against us and provide for our every need as you do His will.

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when desire is fulfilled, it is a tree of life (Proverbs 13:12 AMP).

Beloved, I am currently posting this from Israel and just before I left the UK, I asked a friend for her prayer request which she sent. However, as I read through it, I realised that she had left out a particular item that we had been praying about. So, I sent her a message saying “what about so, so, so?” and this is what she sent me;

“Sis I will not ask God again. I realise I have always prayed for it but even the things I prayed and begged God not to let happen, all happened. What more can I do? It has caused me too much pain, shame and all. Maybe I should just let go”.

I read what she sent and replied back saying; “your heart has gone cold”. Our feature text says… our heart becomes sick when our hope has been deferred; when it seems like the Lord isn’t even hearing you. And then, that thing becomes too painful to even think about, so we bury it away.

We chatted some more and ended the conversation in the typical “it is well” Christianese fashion but then, realising how emotional our conversation must have left her, I sent her a message saying “Don’t you dare cry” but I knew it was almost impossible and even insensitive to ask that of her.

She replied back saying “Every time I talk about it, I cry. How can I keep asking God for what makes me cry all the time?”

Hmmm… Beloved, is this how you are feeling right now? I don’t always claim to have the answers. I also have my own “what is God up?” questions and yes, I know there are times things can get very overwhelming but even as I type this message, two songs dropped in my spirit;

The first is; “Praise Him in Advance” by Marvin Sapp with lyrics that say… “I’ve had my share of ups and downs, times when there was no one around, God came and spoke these words to me, praise will confuse the enemy… I started singing, I started clapping, I started dancing, people were laughing, they knew my problems, they knew my pain, but I knew God would take them away”.

The second is “He’s Able” by Deitrick Haddon with lyrics that say… “God is able to do just what He said He would do… He’s gonna fulfill every promise to you… Don’t give up on God, cause He won’t give up on you… He’s able”.

Beloved, don’t allow your heart to be sick… whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart] (Philippians 4:8 AMP).

26. October 2017 · Comments Off on I NEED TO OVERCOME MY UNBELIEF‏‏ · Categories: Faith, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Trusting God

Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?” “From childhood,” he answered. “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” “‘IF YOU CAN’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I DO BELIEVE; HELP ME OVERCOME MY UNBELIEF!” (Mark 9:21-24 NIV)

I DO BELIEVE; HELP ME OVERCOME MY UNBELIEF…

Beloved, still on the issue of unbelief, this is one of those stories where one has to laugh when you read it and know that the Lord is speaking to you. This is a man that could have decided to be very religious or spiritual and just say, yes, I believe but I like that he was honest and I believe what he was saying was… Yes, I generally do believe and in this case, I want to believe but I am struggling so please help me overcome my unbelief because I seriously don’t know. Kind of similar to when Ezekiel said the Lord asked him… “Son of man, can these bones become living people again?” “O Sovereign Lord,” I replied, “you alone know the answer to that.” (Ezekiel 37:3 NLT)

Beloved, there are things you don’t argue about. Who are you fooling? Rather, than pretend, just go before the Lord and say… I know that I am meant to believe you concerning this situation and in theory, I do believe that everything is possible for the one who believes but to be honest, in this case, I am struggling to see how things could possibly turn out well, so please help me overcome my unbelief.

Simple honesty… that’s what this is. If we believed 100%, there would be no worry in us. Surely, we would know that there’s nothing to worry about. We would just spend every minute praising and thanking God but there are times when the situation takes the better of us. That’s when we become overwhelmingly anxious, but we are told repeatedly to… Rejoice in the Lord always… Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:4-7 NIV).

Beloved, are you struggling to believe the Lord for something? I like the portion of the Bible where Jesus told Peter… I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail… (Luke 22:32 NIV). Isn’t it reassuring that Jesus is there to help us? Do you need to be honest with Him and ask for help to overcome your unbelief? Why not make it your prayer then?

Oh Lord… Help me overcome my unbelief‏.

But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways (James 1:6-8 NKJV).

Beloved, if I’m honest, our feature text was one of those verses in the Bible I didn’t really like very much. It was a verse that when I read it, it made me want to try and find a way to freeze my thoughts when they were positive and full of faith so that I’m always able to present it as what stands as my evidence of faith for what I was believing the Lord for. It was more like saying, “Lord, this is the state of mind ‎I’m in agreement with so, please disregard everything else that comes from this feeble mind of mine.

Beloved, I’m thinking of the father who brought his son to Jesus saying, “help us, if You can.” But… Jesus said to him, “[You say to Me,] ‘If You can?’ All things are possible for the one who believes and trusts [in Me]!” Immediately the father of the boy cried out [with a desperate, piercing cry], saying, “I do BELIEVE; help [me overcome] my UNBELIEF.” (Mark 9:23-24 AMPC)

How can BELIEVE and UNBELIEF be going on in one person’s mind all at the same time? However, many of us are like Peter who said… “Lord, if it’s really You, tell me to come to You, walking on the water.” “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw the STRONG WIND AND THE WAVES, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” (Matthew 14:28-31 NLT)

Peter stepped out full of faith because His focus was on Jesus. However, when He took His focus off Jesus and started looking at the things happening around him, faith turned into fear; belief turned into unbelief. He began to doubt and like James tells us about a double-minded person, he became like a wave in the sea, blown up and down [driven and tossed] by the wind.

Beloved, I started by saying there was a time I wished I could find a way to freeze my positive thoughts. Do you know there’s a way to do that? The Bible says… looking away from all that will distract us and focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith [the first incentive for our belief and the One who brings our faith to maturity]… (Hebrews 12:2 AMPC). The NIV Translations say… fixing our eyes on Jesus.

That’s the way to avoid being double-minded… FIXING our eyes on Jesus at all times.

Shalom!

24. October 2017 · Comments Off on WHAT WOULD YOUR SILENCE ACHIEVE?‏ · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Trusting God

Zechariah said to the angel, “How can I be sure this will happen? I’m an old man now, and my wife is also well along in years.” Then the angel said, “I am Gabriel! I stand in the very presence of God. It was he who sent me to bring you this good news! But now, SINCE YOU DIDN’T BELIEVE WHAT I SAID, YOU WILL BE SILENT AND UNABLE TO SPEAK UNTIL THE CHILD IS BORN. FOR MY WORDS WILL CERTAINLY BE FULFILLED AT THE PROPER TIME.”‎ (Luke 1:18-20 NLT)

‎Beloved, referring to our feature text, I remember listening to something say that “you would be surprised what you can achieve if you were to keep quiet for 9 ‎months”. What they said really made me laugh because indeed when you think about it, what would we be able to achieve if our ‘negative speaking’ mouths could remain silent for at least 9 months? A whole lot if you ask me.

I remember someone telling me of the time she was diagnosed with a brain tumour. When the doctors told her the news, she just picked up her bag and left the room refusing to say a word. Her husband thought she was in denial because she refused to talk about it, but she said that she was very careful not to say anything because she knew that creation starts immediately you speak the word. Hmmm… isn’t that something? As it happens, after a while, she later went back to the experts that diagnosed the brain tumour and till date, they couldn’t find anything. Again, isn’t that something?

CREATION BEGINS WHEN WE SPEAK THE WORD!!!‎

Beloved, our words have power… The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences (Proverbs 18:21 NLT). So, what is your silence about a certain uncertain situation bound to achieve? Based on what our feature text reveals, there are times when rather than say things to negate what the Lord has in stock for us, it is best‎ to just remain silent.

I also remember another person who was planning an event say that they first started by telling their team that if they didn’t have anything positive to say about what they were about to do, they shouldn’t say anything at all.

Beloved, that’s what we all need to do. Or perhaps we ought to be like the Prophet Ezekiel; if the Lord were to ask you something you are unsure of, just say; Lord, You alone know the answer to that (Ezekiel 37:3). However, the best answer should always be how Mary responded to the angel of the Lord who brought her the type of news that sounded impossible to believe but… Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.”… (Luke 1:38 NLT).

I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for [the sake of] the land, that I would not destroy it, but I found no one [not even one] (Ezekiel 22:30 AMP).

Beloved, using yesterday’s message as a backdrop, today, let’s take a look at the negotiation that took place between the Lord and Abraham one more time… And the Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing… And the Lord said, “Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grave, I will go down now and see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry against it that has come to Me; and if not, I will know.” (Genesis 18:17-21 NKJV)

Beloved, here we see that the Lord let Abraham in on what He was up to for a reason and then negotiations began. We know the story… Abraham negotiated from 50 down to 10 righteous people. … He said, “Let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak but once more: Suppose TEN should be found there?” And He said, “I WILL NOT DESTROY IT FOR THE SAKE OF TEN.” (Genesis 18:32 NKJV)

The Lord promised not to destroy the city for the sake of ten but unfortunately, He did not find 10 righteous people there so, He had to destroy the city… BUT GOD HAD LISTENED TO ABRAHAM’S REQUEST and kept Lot safe, removing him from the disaster that engulfed the cities on the plain (Genesis 19:29 NLT).

BUT GOD HAD LISTENED TO ABRAHAM’S REQUEST…

So, let’s think about this for a moment. Abraham begged God to preserve the land if He found at least 10 righteous people there. What if Abraham’s request was that God should touch the hearts of the people so that they could humble themselves, pray, seek God’s face and turn from their wicked ways, would God have heard from heaven, forgiven their sins, and healed their land? He was ready not to “DESTROY IT FOR THE SAKE OF TEN.” We also know how Jonah stepped in and saved a whole city.

Over the weekend, we were having a discussion about how powerful intercessors are because like Moses, they stand in the way and would have to step aside for God to act.

Beloved, our feature text tells us that the Lord searches for people to stand in the gap for [the sake of] the land but He found no one and we read in scripture where the Lord says… “Do you think that I like to see wicked people die? says the Sovereign Lord. Of course not! I want them to turn from their wicked ways and live (Ezekiel 18:23 NLT).

Beloved, that’s the heart cry of the Lord and going back to Abraham’s story, it’s one thing for God to let us in on what He’s up to but it’s another thing to know what to do with what He shows us. This applies to every aspect of our lives and today, I pray that the Lord gives us the wisdom to pray the right prayers concerning our lives, families, our nation and world.

22. October 2017 · Comments Off on DARE TO REASON WITH THE LORD? · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Prayer, Relationship, Worship

“Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord…(Isaiah 1:18 NKJV)

Beloved, have you ever found yourself in a position where you feel afraid to place a request before God? Where you raised with a religious culture that gave the impression that God was very strict? He had to be reverenced and feared and one couldn’t just approach Him. Oh yes, He is to be reverenced and feared but He is also a loving Father looking for a simple, intimate relationship with you and is always willing to listen and consider your requests.

I’m reminded of Abraham and how he had to summon courage to place his request before God… Abraham approached Him and said: “Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked? (Genesis 18:23 NIV)

Beloved, I’m not sure how he expected the Lord to respond but when he saw that the Lord did not bite his head off, he was encouraged to keep asking… Then Abraham spoke up again: “NOW THAT I HAVE BEEN SO BOLD AS TO SPEAK TO THE LORD, though I am nothing but dust and ashes, what if the number of the righteous is five less than fifty?”… Then he said, “MAY THE LORD NOT BE ANGRY, BUT LET ME SPEAK. What if only thirty can be found there?”… Abraham said, “NOW THAT I HAVE BEEN SO BOLD AS TO SPEAK TO THE LORD, what if only twenty can be found there?”… Then he said, “May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?”… (Genesis 18:27-32 NIV)

Each time the Lord did not say… “how dare you ask Me that?” Or “that’s enough! You’ve made too many requests. You have exceeded your limit”. Rather, His response to Abraham’s entire requests was… “I WILL NOT DESTROY IT”.

I’m sure reflecting back, Abraham must have thought; why was I so afraid? Why did I think He would be angry with me? As funny as this may sound, some people are still under this same bondage and it is mainly caused by religion. But it shouldn’t be so. We find that it was the Lord’s desire in the first place for Abraham to engage him in this conversation… Then the Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do? (Genesis 18:17 NIV) And He listened and responded to Abraham in a way that gave Him the confidence to come closer.

Beloved, today, the Lord is saying… ‘Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’ (Jeremiah 33:3 NIV)
