He has made everything beautiful and appropriate in its time. He has also planted eternity [a sense of divine purpose] in the human heart [a mysterious longing which nothing under the sun can satisfy, except God]–yet man cannot find out (comprehend, grasp) what God has done (His overall plan) from the beginning to the end (Ecclesiastes 3:11 AMP).

Beloved, our feature text is one that helps us explain why after you have gone after all the things in this life that you feel would give you fulfilment, you still feel like there’s something missing. You go after this and that and it still lives you empty. You go after wealth, that business or career, that dream, that car, that relationship… all those things that you thought would do it for you. You do them until you get to the point in life where everything that you have looked onto, hoping to give you fulfillment is no longer enough because you find that you are still empty or should I say you find that there’s still a void in your life. However, that’s because God has… planted eternity [a sense of divine purpose] in the human heart [a mysterious longing which nothing under the sun can satisfy, except God]… You find that you are searching for the Lord and like a famous gospel singer, Sinach said… the more I know You… the more I want to know You… Jesus… more of You…

Beloved, the Bible introduces us to Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector and had become very rich. However, he fell short and became so desperate for Jesus (Luke 19:2-3) and I believe that it was because none of what he had acquired did it for him. So, when he finally caught Jesus’ attention… Zacchaeus stood before the Lord and said, “I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!” Jesus responded, “Salvation has come to this home today… (Luke 19:8-9 NLT)

Beloved, our feature text says God has planted eternity [a sense of divine purpose] in the human heart… and according to my Bible notes “this phrase refers to a deep-seated, compulsive drive to transcend our mortality by knowing the meaning and destiny of the world. Because we are made in the image of God, we have an inborn inquisitiveness about eternal realities. We can find peace only when we come to know our eternal Creator. Even then, we know God only in part” (1 Corinthians 13:12).

Beloved, we know God only in part so the search continues. The psalmist said… As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? (Psalms 42:1-2 NIV). Have you ever sat down to ask what am I really panting for?

SELAH!

God bless you in Jesus Christ name
