And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them (Romans 8:28 NLT).

Beloved, many have had dreams and received very many great revelations of the person God has called them to be and have waited and waited but nothing seems to be happening. In fact, everything you have experienced so far seems the exact opposite of the revelations you received and you have probably concluded that it’s never going to happen. Well, don’t make that conclusion just yet. Our feature text lets us know that everything (both the good, the bad and the ugly) is working together for your good.

The Bible tells us of the famous Joseph who was someone that had a dream of how his brothers would bow down before him but rather than see his dream happen, he went on a roller coaster journey; from PIT to SLAVERY to PRISION. While in prison, I’m sure his dream was the last thing on his mind but then, before he knew it, things changed drastically for him and he was catapulted to the palace. His brothers then came searching for food and… since Joseph was governor of all Egypt and in charge of selling grain to all the people, it was to him that his brothers came. When they arrived, they bowed before him with their faces to the ground (Genesis 42:6 NLT).

Really? With everything that had gone by, who would have thought Joseph would ever see this day? He was 17 when he had the dream and so at 30, he must have forgotten about it. However, seeing them bow in front of him like that… JOSEPH REMEMBERED THE DREAMS HE HAD DREAMED ABOUT THEM (Genesis 42:9 AMPC).

Beloved, a lot must have flashed through his mind at that moment. He suddenly was able to put two and two together. It all made sense… “Oh, now I see why I went through what I went through… There’s no need apologising bro… As for you, you thought evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring about that many people should be kept alive, as they are this day (Genesis 50:20 AMPC)

Beloved, isn’t God great? Like I said, many have had dreams and received very many great revelations of the person God has called them to be and have waited and waited but nothing seems to be happening. However, if only you can just wait on the Lord, you would finally have a ‘Joseph moment’. You will soon see how all your life’s experience; from childhood to present day has been working out for your good. Yes, the enemies may have thought they’ve had the upper hand but there would come a time when you would almost want to thank every enemy (known and unknown) when you see how God makes the same things that were meant to work against you function for your good.

Know today that things have been and are still working out for your good.

29. September 2017 · Comments Off on YOUR DAY OF REWARD IS COMING · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Reward, Trusting God

For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love you have demonstrated for His name, in having served and continuing to serve the saints. But we passionately want each of you to demonstrate the same eagerness for the fulfillment of your hope until the end (Hebrews 6:10-11 NET)

Beloved, in the book of Esther, we read of Mordecai who from the beginning to end was faithful to the Lord’s purpose. His effort to do the right thing went unnoticed for a while but that didn’t stop him from being faithful and when his day of reward finally came… the king had trouble sleeping, so he ordered an attendant to bring the book of the history of his reign so it could be read to him. In those records he discovered an account of how Mordecai had exposed the plot of Bigthana and Teresh… “What reward or recognition did we ever give Mordecai for this?” the king asked. His attendants replied, “Nothing has been done for him.” (Esther 6:1-3 NLT).

Beloved, from that day, Mordecai’s story changed and the interesting thing is that the Lord used his enemy to promote him. Haman hated Mordecai because Mordecai refused to bow in submission to him and it so happened that the king asked Haman… “What would be appropriate for the man the king especially wants to honor?” Haman thought to himself, “He must be talking about honoring me—who else?” So he answered the king, “For the man the king delights to honor, do this: Bring a royal robe that the king has worn and a horse the king has ridden, one with a royal crown on its head. Then give the robe and the horse to one of the king’s most noble princes. Have him robe the man whom the king especially wants to honor; have the prince lead him on horseback through the city square, proclaiming before him, ‘This is what is done for the man whom the king especially wants to honor!’” “Go and do it,” the king said to Haman. “Don’t waste another minute. Take the robe and horse and do what you have proposed to Mordecai the Jew who sits at the King’s Gate. Don’t leave out a single detail of your plan” (Esther 6:6-10 MSG).

Beloved, here’s the grand finale… Mordecai walked out of the king’s presence wearing a royal robe of violet and white, a huge gold crown, and a purple cape of fine linen… (Esther 8:15 MSG). Also… Mordecai… ranked second in command to King Xerxes. He was popular among the Jews and greatly respected by them. He worked hard for the good of his people; he cared for the peace and prosperity of his race. (Esther 10:3 MSG).

Beloved, you may think your efforts have gone unnoticed but one day your book will be read and you will know that the Lord rewards those faithful to Him. When that time comes, He would disturb the sleep of whoever should make this happen and all the plots of your enemies would turn around and work in your favour.

Don’t copy the behaviour and customs of this world but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you THINK. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect (Romans 12:2 NLT).

Beloved, what our feature text highlights is that we need a paradigm shift in the way we think. We are not of this world so we shouldn’t think like the world (John 17:16). The Message translation says… “Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out…

There are some laid out facts that the patterns and traditions of this world has taught us and then there’s the TRUTH. The world says you’ve got to be of a certain age to have children, then there’s the truth that Sarah was past childbearing age when she conceived and the Lord wants us to distinguish FACTS from His TRUTH… For nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37).

Unfortunately, we are limited by how we think (Proverbs 23:7) but to receive the great things God has for us, we must know how He thinks for He says… “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” … “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9 NLT).

Beloved, please know that it is God that makes things happen so trust in the Lord and just relax (Proverbs 3:5-6). We don’t have to figure things out first. Just believe that when the time comes, Jesus will show you which fish’s mouth to get the money from (Matthew 17:27). When we define how we think God should work, we tend to focus all our effort in that direction but… He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us’. (Ephesians 3:20). WHAT POWER ARE WE TALKING ABOUT? …This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead…’ (Ephesians 1:19-20 NLT) and if you truly belong to Christ, you have the same power in you (Romans 8:11).

We must realise that the God of the Bible is the same God we’re talking about today (Malachi 3:6) but we are imprisoned by the limits we’ve set for ourselves through how the world says we should think or how our past experiences or family history has defined us.

Beloved, it’s time to release our thinking from jail. As far as we are confined to thinking within the boundaries of how this world works, we restrict God to work within those boundaries but when we remove the boundaries, we allow God to do what only He can do.

TAKE OFF THE LIMITS of age, strength, ability, education, finance… and see what God can do.

27. September 2017 · Comments Off on HAVE YOU GOT ACTIVE FAITH? · Categories: Action, Faith, Jesus Christ, Prayer

Dear friends, do you think you’ll get anywhere in this if you learn all the right words but never do anything? Does merely talking about faith indicate that a person really has it? For instance, you come upon an old friend dressed in rags and half-starved and say, “Good morning, friend! Be clothed in Christ! Be filled with the Holy Spirit!” and walk off without providing so much as a coat or a cup of soup—where does that get you? Isn’t IT OBVIOUS THAT GOD-TALK WITHOUT GOD-ACTS IS OUTRAGEOUS NONSENSE? (James 2:14-17 MSG)

…IT OBVIOUS THAT GOD-TALK WITHOUT GOD-ACTS IS OUTRAGEOUS NONSENSE?

Beloved, we’ve often been told that if you have faith, your prayers would be answered and so, the question is; “is it just faith alone?” Would you just sit-down there and pray, pray, pray without doing anything? Is there no corresponding action to go with your prayers? The Amplified version of our feature text says… faith, if it does not have works [to back it up], is by itself dead [inoperative and ineffective]. The Amplified Bible, Classic Edition says… faith, if it does not have works (deeds and actions of obedience to back it up), by itself is destitute of power (inoperative, dead).

I like what the Lord told Moses as Moses cried out to Him in the face of trouble. Moses had told the Israelites he was leading that… The Lord will fight for you while you [only need to] keep silent and remain calm.” (Exodus 14:14 AMP). However, how did the Lord respond?… The Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the sons of Israel to move forward [toward the sea]. As for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, so that the sons of Israel may go through the middle of the sea on dry land (Exodus 14:14-16 AMP).

Beloved, Moses had to take some action before he could see any results. We are also told of Cornelius… He was a devout, God-fearing man, as was everyone in his household. HE GAVE GENEROUSLY TO THE POOR AND PRAYED REGULARLY TO GOD (Acts 10:2 NLT) and on one faithful day, an angel of God appeared to him in a vision and said…“YOUR PRAYERS AND GIFTS TO THE POOR have been RECEIVED BY GOD AS AN OFFERING! (Acts 10:4 NLT)

Beloved, God also noticed his gifts to the poor which He received as an offering to Himself and this set the ball rolling for this man and his family. God started moving people on his behalf. Peter had a vision and… as Peter was puzzling over the vision, the Holy Spirit said to him, “Three men have come looking for you. Get up, go downstairs, and go with them without hesitation…” (Acts 10:19-20 NLT. This mans’ prayer backed with good deeds contributed to changing the destiny of the entire Gentiles (Acts 10:44-45).

Beloved, what am I trying to say? Can you decide on actions you can take to back your prayers? As you do so, I pray you receive a divine visitation that would turn things around for your family.

26. September 2017 · Comments Off on DON’T BE AFRAID TO TAKE RISKS · Categories: Action, Choices, Decision making, Jesus Christ, Trusting God

Cast your bread on the surface of the waters, [be diligently active, make thoughtful decisions], for you will find it after many days (Ecclesiastes 11:1 AMP).

Beloved, are you one that’s so afraid of taking risk? Well, if you are, then our feature text is for you. The New Living Translation which titles this “The Uncertainties of Life” says… Send your grain across the seas, and in time, profits will flow back to you… while the Voice translation says… Don’t be afraid to release your bread upon the waters, for in due time you will find it.

According to my Bible notes, verse 1 to 6 of Ecclesiastes 11 “emphasise the element of risk and uncertainty in commercial and agricultural enterprise… Men and women must venture forth judiciously if they are ever to realise a gain, even though there is always a certain amount of risk”.

‘Judiciously’ means with good judgement or sense. So, off course you must use some sense in order to take a certain amount of risk or what some would call a calculated risk which is a risk that you consider worth taking because the result, if it is successful, will be so good.

Beloved, the Holy Spirit may have been nudging you to make some moves but you are afraid or perhaps waiting for all conditions to be perfect. However, Ecclesiastes 11 goes on to say… He who watches the wind [waiting for all conditions to be perfect] will not sow [seed], and he who looks at the clouds will not reap [a harvest]. Just as you do not know the way and path of the wind or how the bones are formed in the womb of a pregnant woman, even so you do not know the activity of God who makes all things. Sow your seed in the morning and do not be idle with your hands in the evening, for you do not know whether morning or evening planting will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both alike will be good (Ecclesiastes 11:4-6 AMP).

According to my Bible notes “the person who is so cautious that he must wait for ideal time before he makes a move is doomed to fail”.

Beloved, at times, all you need is a word from God which may not make sense to anyone including yourself but obedience is key which was what Peter did. Jesus told him… “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.” “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! (Luke 5:4-6 NLT)

I like Peter because he isn’t afraid to take risks. He would walk on water if he has to… Then Peter called to Him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus (Matthew 14:28-29 NLT).

Beloved, don’t be afraid to take risks. With Jesus, you never know the outcome.

25. September 2017 · Comments Off on SPEAK OUT! · Categories: Jesus Christ, Testimony

Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others he has redeemed you from your enemies (Psalm 107:2 NLT).

Beloved, not everyone has been called to be a pastor or preacher but everyone has been called to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. We’ve all been through things that we know that if not for Jesus Christ, we won’t be where we are today. Like David said… “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, When men rose up against us, Then they would have swallowed us alive, When their wrath was kindled against us (Psalm 124:2-3 NKJV)

There are things God has allowed you to go through and it’s time to start sharing what He has brought you through. Jesus said… “Simon, Simon, satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. AND WHEN YOU HAVE TURNED BACK, STRENGTHEN YOUR BROTHERS.” (Luke 22:31-32 NIV)

You would think that Jesus would have said… I have prayed for you, Simon, that satan would not succeed but instead, Jesus prayed for his faith to carry him through the trial so that he can in turn STRENGTHEN HIS BROTHERS.

One of the ways to strengthen your brothers is to share what the Lord has brought you through. Also, the Bible says… And they have overcome (conquered) him by means of the blood of the Lamb and BY THE UTTERANCE OF THEIR TESTIMONY, for they did not love and cling to life even when faced with death [holding their lives cheap till they had to die for their witnessing]. (Revelation 12:11 AMPC)

Beloved, everybody has a testimony and satan would do his very best to keep your mouth shut. You may be facing some challenges and you may feel that you are not where you want to be but the way to overcome is to share your testimony of what the Lord has done so far, no matter how insignificant you may think it is. Maybe you are worried about what people may think but like someone said, the test of real deliverance is transparency. You know you’ve been delivered when you are no longer ashamed of your past. You can openly say to people… “I used to be this person but look at what the Lord has done”.

Beloved, have you got a testimony to share? Surely you must do… It is because of the Lord’s mercy and loving-kindness that we are not consumed, because His [tender] compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great and abundant is Your stability and faithfulness (Lamentations 3:22-23 AMPC). Surely, the Lord has been faithful to you… Why not start using your personal pulpit to share your testimony and watch as you rise up to a higher level of overcoming.

24. September 2017 · Comments Off on ADDRESSING DIVISION IN THE HOUSE · Categories: Holy Spirit, Identity, Jealousy, Jesus Christ, Relationship, Spiritual Growth, Talents

Now you have every spiritual gift you need as you eagerly wait for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ… I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose (1 Corinthians 1:7, 10 NLT).

Beloved, when I first started to meditate on 1 Corinthians 1, the first thought that came to mind was “The Struggles of a gifted house” and ‘house’ here isn’t just limited to a church or ministry but even one’s household or every environment that is heavily stocked with gifted people. Unfortunately, in such environments, you often find competition where one wants to outdo the other and the focus is then on the gift. Such was the case with the Corinthian Church which was a very gifted house but unfortunately, this is what causes division in the Church.

Apostle Paul who was addressing this condition in the church went on to say… some members of Chloe’s household have told me about your quarrels, my dear brothers and sisters. Some of you are saying, “I am a follower of Paul.” Others are saying, “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Peter,” or “I follow only Christ.” Has Christ been divided into factions?… (1 Corinthians 1:11-13 NLT)

What happened was that Apostle Paul taught the gospel in Corinth for a while but then, he left Apollos to preach and teach in his absence. However, when he was away, he began to receive disturbing reports of the discord taking place in the church in Corinth.

Apparently, Apollos was a very eloquent speaker; a gift he used to preach the gospel (Acts 18:24) and so, you can imagine that people began to take sides. However, Apostle Paul felt this was worldly and a sure sign of immaturity. He said… when I was with you I couldn’t talk to you as I would to spiritual people. I had to talk as though you belonged to this world or as though you were infants in Christ… for you are still controlled by your sinful nature. You are jealous of one another and quarrel with each other… Aren’t you living like people of the world? When one of you says, “I am a follower of Paul,” and another says, “I follow Apollos,”… After all, who is Apollos? Who is Paul? We are only God’s servants… I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it… It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. WHAT’S IMPORTANT IS THAT GOD MAKES THE SEED GROW. THE ONE WHO PLANTS AND THE ONE WHO WATERS WORK TOGETHER WITH THE SAME PURPOSE… (1 Corinthians 3:1-8 NLT).

Beloved, Apostle Paul said comparing ourselves with each other is not wise (2 Corinthians 10:12). It is immature and it causes division in the body of Christ and it’s a condition of the heart we must address. After all, are we not ONE BODY but with many parts put together to fulfil the Lord’s purpose (1 Corinthians 12:12-26)?

23. September 2017 · Comments Off on ARE YOU GIFTED BUT FRUITLESS? · Categories: Anger, Fruit of the Spirit, Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ, Love, Relationship, Spiritual Growth

A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have (1 Corinthians 12:7-11 NLT).

Beloved, the gifts of the Spirit or the fruits of the Spirit? Which do you think is more important to God?

Literally speaking, a gift is something free given to someone and in our feature text, while Apostle Paul says… you should earnestly desire the most helpful gifts (1 Corinthians 12:31 NLT), he also says… but now let me show you a way of life that is best of all (1 Corinthians 12:31 NLT).

He went on to say… If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is PATIENT, love is KIND. It DOES NOT ENVY, it DOES NOT BOAST, it is not PROUD. It DOES NOT DISHONOR OTHERS, it is NOT SELF-SEEKING, it is NOT EASILY ANGERED, it KEEPS NO RECORD OF WRONGS. Love DOES NOT DELIGHT IN EVIL but rejoices with the truth. It always PROTECTS, ALWAYS TRUSTS, ALWAYS HOPES, ALWAYS PERSEVERES (1 Corinthians 13:1-7 NIV).

Beloved, love is a fruit of the Spirit but unlike a gift which is freely given, a fruit is produced from within… the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [THE WORK WHICH HIS PRESENCE WITHIN ACCOMPLISHES] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness, Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence)… (Galatians 5:22-23 AMPC).

So, what am I trying to say? The fact that some people are heavily gifted doesn’t mean they are spiritually mature. If truly our lives are not governed by love, joy, peace, patience, an even temper etc., then we have got some growing up to do. As born-again believers, we have the Holy Spirit working inside of us to produce fruit. While gifts are important, let’s ensure we are producing fruit. Let’s focus on being fruitful and not just gifted.

“But suddenly, your ruthless enemies will be crushed like the finest of dust. Your many attackers will be driven away like chaff before the wind. SUDDENLY, IN AN INSTANT, I, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, will act for you with thunder and earthquake and great noise, with whirlwind and storm and consuming fire. All the nations fighting against Jerusalem will vanish like a dream! Those who are attacking her walls will vanish like a vision in the night (Isaiah 29:5-7 NLT).

Beloved, when the enemy attacks, we often think God is slow to come to our aid but even before you cry out, He has already seen and heard your cries and would often say ‘be still and know that I am God’. God said to Moses… “I’ve taken A GOOD, LONG LOOK at the affliction of my people in Egypt. I’ve heard their cries for deliverance from their slave masters; I know all about their pain. And now I have come down to help them, pry them loose from the grip of Egypt… (Exodus 3:7-8 MSG)

With God, a GOOD, LONG LOOK often feels like it is a very, very, very LONG LOOK; one that may take many years in human eyes but God is also a ‘SUDDENLY, IN AN INSTANT’ God. After the Lord spoke to Moses, it took some time before they could see any kind of deliverance. In fact, their situation became worse and when God eventually moved on their behalf, it was quite scary. As they left Egypt, their enemies came after them in full force and it seemed there was no way of escape for them… but Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. THE EGYPTIANS YOU SEE TODAY WILL NEVER BE SEEN AGAIN (Exodus 14:13 NLT).

Beloved, we know the story. That same day, they watched as the enemies that had tormented them for many, many years drown in the red sea. As a kid, every Christmas we watched this classic movie on Moses, the Israelites, and the red sea and it was quite a scene and it helped to visualise that moment when it all happened. Now, picture those moments and then meditate on Isaiah 29:5-7. God is the same God yesterday, today and forever. Don’t you think He can do the same on your behalf? What battle are you fighting that Jesus hasn’t already won?

The Bible says… When the Lord brought back His exiles to Jerusalem, it was like a dream! We were filled with laughter, and we sang for joy. And the other nations said, “What amazing things the Lord has done for them.” (Psalm 126:1-2 NLT). They couldn’t believe it and it is my prayer that you will also experience such laughter and joy SUDDENLY.

The Lord said to Moses… GO UP TO THIS LAND THAT FLOWS WITH MILK AND HONEY. BUT I WILL NOT TRAVEL AMONG YOU, for you are a stubborn and rebellious people… Then Moses said, “If you don’t personally go with us, don’t make us leave this place. (Exodus 33:3, 15 NLT)

… GO UP TO THIS LAND THAT FLOWS WITH MILK AND HONEY. BUT I WILL NOT TRAVEL AMONG YOU

Beloved, unfortunately, today, we live in a world where many have opted for this. Somehow, we’ve become too desperate to have the good things of life that we don’t care if the Lord is in it; just give me the blessing and I’ll be fine but I like that Moses protested. He was on God’s case until God changed His mind… The Lord replied, “I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest—everything will be fine for you.” Then Moses said, “IF YOU DON’T PERSONALLY GO WITH US, DON’T MAKE US LEAVE THIS PLACE. How will anyone know that you look favorably on me—on me and on your people—if you don’t go with us? FOR YOUR PRESENCE AMONG US SETS YOUR PEOPLE AND ME APART FROM ALL OTHER PEOPLE ON THE EARTH.” (Exodus 33:15-16 NLT)

Beloved, what’s the point? What do we do with the blessing if the blesser (if there’s any word like that) is not present?

I remember listening to a famous gospel artist and worship leader say that they longed for those days when they first started. Sitting inside their kitchen, they would play their keyboard and worship for hours and the presence of the Lord would fill the whole kitchen. Then it was just them, their keyboard and the presence of the Lord and it was an awesome experience. However, when they got a big stage; a typical land flowing with milk and honey, the experience was no longer the same like it was in their kitchen. They went on to say that people were intrigued by their stage lights and wonderful presentation but you could get that in any music concert. WHAT SETS US APART from the people of the world is the presence of the Lord.

Beloved, hearing things like this should immediately make one cry out to the Lord saying “please don’t send me where You won’t follow. Don’t let me get to the stage where I am operating without your presence; where You just sit back and watch me glorify myself”.

The Bible says… The blessing of the Lord makes a person rich, and He adds no sorrow with it (Proverbs 10:22 NLT) and many of us have experienced sorrow and no rest from some so-called blessings mainly because the Lord wasn’t in it. However, Moses was smart enough to recognise that it was the presence of the Lord that made all the difference.

Beloved, in the same way, let’s also cry out like Moses did. “Lord… If it is true that You look favorably on me, let me know Your ways so I may understand You more fully and continue to enjoy Your favor… (Exodus 33:13 NLT) …show me Your glorious presence” (Exodus 33:18 NLT).
