Then He spit on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and spread the mud over the blind man’s eyes. He told him, “Go wash yourself in the pool of Siloam” (Siloam means “sent”). So the man went and washed and came back seeing! (John 9:6-7 NLT)

Beloved, during my morning devotion, I was meditating on the chapter from which our feature text is extracted and a lot of things caught my attention about this ‘sent one’ which I believe is relevant to the move of God in this season. I almost named this post ‘The characteristics or confrontations of a ‘Sent one’ but settled for ‘WHEN THE EYES OF A SENT ONE IS OPEN’.

The first confrontation you would face is the religious system. After this man received his sight, we are told that… Then they took the man who had been blind to the Pharisees, because it was on the Sabbath that Jesus had made the mud and healed him… Some of the Pharisees said, “This man Jesus is not from God, for He is working on the Sabbath…” (John 9:13-16 NLT).

So, he was immediately confronted by the religious system which keeps people blind and bound and when I initially read it, I didn’t notice that he was taken to the Pharisees but I find it intriguing how the Lord would place you in situations that would make you confront the religious system that has held you bound all your life and it requires a certain level of boldness to speak up which we see this man displayed.

When questioned about Jesus, he wasn’t afraid to speak up… “I don’t know whether He is a sinner,” the man replied. “But I know this: I was blind, and now I can see!… He healed my eyes, and yet you don’t know where He comes from? We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners, BUT HE IS READY TO HEAR THOSE WHO WORSHIP HIM AND DO HIS WILL. Ever since the world began, no one has been able to open the eyes of someone born blind. If this man were not from God, He couldn’t have done it.” (John 9:25-33 NLT)

Beloved, he was up against the religious system his parents raised him in – one they themselves couldn’t confront because of fear that they would be thrown out of the synagogue (John 9:22) but because he was bold enough to confront this system, he got kicked out (John 9:34).

Unfortunately, this is what may eventually happen when the eyes of a ‘sent one’ is opened. They get kicked out of the church they were raised in or the church frustrates them until they have no choice but to leave. However, that’s fine because a true encounter with Jesus Christ is around the corner… When Jesus heard what had happened, he found the man and asked, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” The man answered, “Who is he, sir? I want to believe in him.” “You have seen him,” Jesus said, “and he is speaking to you!” “Yes, Lord, I believe!” the man said and he worshiped Jesus. (John 9:35-38 NLT)

Beloved, are you a ‘sent one’? SELAH!

God bless you in Jesus Christ name
