Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?” “From childhood,” he answered. “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” “‘IF YOU CAN’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I DO BELIEVE; HELP ME OVERCOME MY UNBELIEF!” (Mark 9:21-24 NIV)

Beloved, this is one of those stories where one has to laugh when you read it and know that the Lord is speaking to you. This is a man that could have decided to be very religious or spiritual and just say, yes I believe but I like that he was honest and I believe what he was saying was… Yes, I generally do believe and in this case, I want to believe but I am struggling so please help me overcome my unbelief because I seriously don’t know. Kind of when Ezekiel said the Lord asked him… “Son of man, can these bones become living people again?” “O Sovereign Lord,” I replied, “you alone know the answer to that.” (Ezekiel 37:3 NLT)

There are things you don’t argue about. Who are you fooling? Rather than pretend, just go before the Lord and say… I know that I am meant to believe you concerning this situation and in theory, I do believe that everything is possible for the one who believes but to be honest, in this case, I am struggling to see how things could possibly turn out well, so please help me overcome my unbelief.

Simple honesty… that’s what this is. If we believed 100%, there would be no worry in us. Surely, we would know that there’s nothing to worry about. We would just spend every minute praising and thanking God but there are times when the situation takes the better of us. That’s when we become overwhelming anxious but we are told repeatedly to… Rejoice in the Lord always… Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4.4-7 NIV).

Beloved, are you struggling to believe the Lord for something? I like where Jesus told Peter… I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail… (Luke 22:32 NIV). Isn’t it reassuring that Jesus is there to help us? Do you need to be honest with Him and ask for help to overcome your unbelief? Why not make it your prayer then?

Lord, Jesus… Please help me overcome my unbelief‏.‏..

After sending them home, He went up into the hills by Himself to pray. Night fell while He was there alone. Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water (Matthew 14:23-25 NLT).

Beloved, studying the story of Peter walking on water again, it has never become clearer to me that truly… STORMS HAVE NO POWER TO BRING YOU DOWN.

After a day of great ministration, Jesus needed some time away from everyone so He sent everyone away but then, His disciples found themselves in a storm and you would think that Jesus would come to their aid immediately they were in trouble. Oh NO! If you’ve walked long enough with the Lord, you would know that’s not His style. He took Him time. They were tossed about by the waves but Jesus did not move an inch. He allowed them to face the storm. It was almost morning before He came towards them. Jesus must have felt the storm wasn’t a problem.

However, in the same story, it’s interesting to see how Jesus reacted differently when it came to dealing with what we could call a man’s greatest enemy. We find out that Jesus came toward them, walking on the water but… when the disciples saw Him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in FEAR. But JESUS IMMEDIATELY SAID TO THEM: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” (Matthew 14:26-27 NIV)

Beloved, when fear gripped them, unlike the storm, Jesus immediately intervenes because He knows what fear can do. And then, of course, the second enemy is DOUBT. Peter the brave and courageous one was quick to take a bold step in the midst of the storm… but when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” IMMEDIATELY Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” He said, “why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:30-31 NIV)

That’s another immediate reaction from Jesus because if FEAR does not take you down, DOUBT is bound to do the Job. Was Peter brave? Yes! Brave people do things afraid anyway, but according to Jesus, it was his doubt that got him sinking. It was his doubt that got him to abandon what he started. But thank God that Jesus always pinpoints the real problem… TAKE COURAGE!… DON’T BE AFRAID… WHY DID YOU DOUBT?

Beloved, this tells me that it is not what happens to you that really matters but how you respond to what happens. FEAR and DOUBT are bound to take you down faster than the storm itself so do your best to rise about these two devils. Focus on Jesus and you too would be walking on top of what is drowning others.

A mob quickly formed against Paul and Silas, and the city officials ordered them stripped and beaten with wooden rods. They were severely beaten, and then they were thrown into prison. The jailer was ordered to make sure they didn’t escape. So the jailer put them into the inner dungeon and clamped their feet in the stocks. Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off!‎ (Acts 16:22- 26 NLT)

Beloved, this is one of those popular verses that we’ve come to be so familiar with. It is one that songs have been made out of it and I remember this familiar song that says…. ‘Paul and Silas they prayed… they sang… the Holy Ghost came down on Paul and Silas’… but can you imagine what happens when the Holy Ghost descends on a place?

The Bible says God inhabits the praise of His people… But You are holy, O You Who dwell in [the holy place where] the praises of Israel [are offered] (Psalm 22:3 AMPC). I love how the Message translation says it… leaning back on the cushions of Israel’s praise…

Can you imagine the Lord entering that prison cell and leaning back on the cushions of Paul and Silas praise? The cell cannot contain Him. His presence in the room would shake and break everything apart including all the so called chains and reading this verse again, what came to mind is that the mistake the jailer made was to leave their lips unchained‎.

Beloved, praise is a powerful tool‎ that confuses the enemy and no matter what is tied down in chains around you, you can still praise your way through as far as your lips remains unchained.

‎There’s another song by William Murphy that says ‘Praise is what I do… When I want to be close to You… I lift my hands in praise…. Praise is who I am… I will praise Him while I can… I’ll bless Him at all times… I vow to praise You… Through the good and the bad… I’ll praise You… Whether happy or sad… I’ll praise You… In all that I go through… Because praise is what I do… Cause I owe it all to You.

Beloved, is praise what you do? Is praise who you are? Or has the enemy succeeded ‎in muting your voice?

We are to… offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to His name (Hebrews 13:15 NLT). Your praise may be a sacrifice right now in the sense that you may be giving it from a place of great pain but keep at it and before you know it, you would be singing a praise of thanksgiving‎.

And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”‎ ‎And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”(Mathew 14:28-31 NKJV)

Beloved, Have you ever found yourself in a position where you hear or see something that greatly motivates and inspires you to do something and so you take the first step but then reality of the situation starts to set in and you start to think “what am I doing?”

This must have been what happened to Peter. This incident happened just after Jesus fed the crowd with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes ‎(Mathew 14:15-21) and I’m sure when ‎Peter said… “command me to come to You”, in addition to seeing Jesus walk on water, the buzz from him seeing Jesus feed the multitude with so little was one of the things that inspired and prompted him to quickly act out in faith. If anything, he still had the leftovers that Jesus instructed them to carry with them. Peter was still on a high; full of faith and then when he saw Jesus walking on water, he was like… ‘wow, I can do that’… ‎but then that ‘wow’ soon became “what on earth do I think I’m doing?”

It’s always like that with us. We hear a great message or see God act miraculously in someone else’s life and we get really encouraged that we step out in faith but then when the excitement dies down, we are like… “oh boy, what am I really doing?” That’s when we start to faint.

Beloved, Peter had the faith to step out onto the water at Jesus’ command but not the faith to continue walking. He no longer heard the word of the Lord. Now he saw the storm and quickly began to sink but in such situations, what we need to do is to continue in the same faith we started with because it is Jesus that is the object of our faith and my experience has taught me that you can’t for a second afford to take your eyes off Jesus. As far as you keep focusing on Him beckoning you to come, you can’t sink.

Do you need to continue in faith? Keep… looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith… (Hebrews 12:2 NKJV)‎. He started it for you and He would finish it for you.

This is what the Lord says… The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands will also complete it… (Zechariah 4:9 NIV)

24. February 2017 · Comments Off on AFRAID OF THE PROBLEM… AFRAID OF THE SOLUTION? · Categories: Faith, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Trusting God

And Peter answered Him, Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water. He said, Come! So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water, and he came toward Jesus (Matthew 14:28-29 AMPC).

Beloved, Peter taking the bold move to step out of the boat and walk on water is a well-known Bible story. We are told that while Jesus was alone praying, His disciples faced a storm. After a while Jesus came to their rescue but because Jesus came in a way they didn’t expect, they were afraid… Jesus came to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified and said, It is a ghost! And they screamed out with fright (Matthew 14:25-26 AMPC).

They were afraid; AFRAID OF THE PROBLEM… AFRAID OF THE SOLUTION. Is this you right now? So, what is one to do? Well, Peter happened to be the brave one out of the lot. Once he was convinced that it was Jesus calling him, with his eyes fixed on Jesus, he stepped out to try what others would have termed impossible. Peter took a brave step towards the call of Jesus and that’s what many are still afraid to do today.

Beloved, as far as you have confirmed that it’s Jesus calling you, you ought to take that bold step. No more excuses! What Peter did was to focus on Jesus Christ through whom he could do all things. However, he does not leave us without a lesson. He teaches us what happens when we take our eyes off Jesus and look to self; taking stock of our weaknesses, inabilities, difficulties, limitations and listening to negativity from others. We are told that… when he saw the wind, HE WAS AFRAID and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” He said, “WHY DID YOU DOUBT?” (Matthew 14:30-31 NIV)

Beloved, I don’t think this needs any special revelation. Jesus got right to the bottom of the problem… WHY DID YOU DOUBT? Peter nearly drowned because of fear. The Message translation says… HE LOST HIS NERVE AND STARTED TO SINK… Peter started strong but somewhere along the line, he started to listen to the ‘what if’s’ of life.

So, what is Jesus saying to you today? Could He be saying… “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid” (Matthew 14:27). Do not doubt! Keep your eyes on ME all the time. I started it and I would finish it. All you need to do is get out of the boat and walk. And even if you feel you are about to sink, I would reach out and grab your hand and catch you.

Beloved, Fear not… For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV).

23. February 2017 · Comments Off on THE LORD’S PLAN SHOULD GIVE YOU PEACE · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Joy, Peace, Trusting God

For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘PLANS FOR PEACE and WELL-BEING and not for disaster to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11 AMP).

Beloved, from our feature text, every plan that comes from God ought to give you peace no matter how crazy it may sound at first. Anything short of that peace may not from God.

At this point, I am thinking of Mary the mother of Jesus whom till date must have received the most confusing plan ever given to mankind, yet instead of losing sleep over it, she pondered over it for a short while, asked her most important question and after receiving an answer that could be seen as even more confusing… Then Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel left her (Luke 1:38 AMP).

Beloved, that was it. God’s plan should come with peace and assurance even when it doesn’t exactly make sense. The key is to diligently seek the Lord for how to accomplish that plan.

The Lord says… Then you will call on Me and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear [your voice] and I will listen to you. Then [with a deep longing] you will seek Me and require Me [as a vital necessity] and [you will] find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you,’ says the Lord… (Jeremiah 29:12-14 AMP)

Well-being talks of your general health including your mental well-being. Are you sleeping well? Are you living stress-free? Are you eating well?

The Lord says… Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers (3 John 2 NKJV). That’s another plan the Lord has for you. Your soul talks about your mind, your emotions etc. and if they are not in line with what the Lord plans for you which should ultimately bring you peace, then something is wrong somewhere.

Beloved, when we remove the Lord from the equation and embark on our own plans, then things start to fall apart and we fall apart with them but the Bible says… Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain. It is vain for you to rise early, to retire late, to eat the bread of anxious labors— For He gives [blessings] to His beloved even in his sleep (Psalm 127:1-2 AMP).

Beloved, this is God’s plan for you and He says… Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV).

God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams… (Ephesians 3:20 MSG).

Beloved, are you currently in a situation where you take one look at what’s in front of you and then say nothing good can come out of this situation? Why do you keep concluding that the case is closed? As far as you keep reasoning things out in your senses, you would always think that way. Haven’t you heard that you should… trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding? (Proverbs 3:5 NKJV). The Message translation says… Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own.

Is your case like that of Naomi who decided it was the end of the road for her after her husband and sons died? We are told that addressing her daughter-in-laws… Naomi was firm: “Go back, my dear daughters. Why would you come with me? Do you suppose I still have sons in my womb who can become your future husbands? Go back, dear daughters—on your way, please! I’m too old to get a husband. Why, even if I said, ‘There’s still hope!’ and this very night got a man and had sons, can you imagine being satisfied to wait until they were grown? Would you wait that long to get married again?…” (Ruth 1:11-13 MSG)

Oh poor Naomi! In your own understanding, that’s how you have reasoned that God should work but you’ve forgotten that He said… “my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways… As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9 NIV).

Beloved, how did the story turn out for her daughter-in-law who regardless of Naomi’s discouragement decided to still follow her? …AS IT HAPPENED, she found herself working in a field that belonged to Boaz, the relative of her father-in-law, Elimelech (Ruth 2:3 NKJV). And all of a sudden, Naomi remembers that… that man is one of our closest relatives, one of our family redeemers.” (Ruth 2:20 NLT)

AS IT HAPPENED, right? Well, are we going to say we can’t see God working here? Don’t you think He was the one that kept Ruth on the right track that led to Boaz?

Beloved, you may look at your situation and not always see a way out but that is why you’ve been told to work by faith and not by sight. Know that Jesus, your redeemer has a perfect plan to bring you to an expected end so… In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:6).

Today, I pray specially that your faith in the God of all possibility is renewed and in due season, you would be led to that’s thing He is bringing your path. Trust Him and you will soon sing a new song.

“Enlarge your house; build an addition. Spread out your home, and spare no expense! For you will soon be bursting at the seams. Your descendants will occupy other nations and resettle the ruined cities (Isaiah 54:2-3 NLT).

Beloved, so I was having this conversation with my mum the other day about how she always wants to receive videos, pictures and images on her phone but hasn’t got enough room, so every time she tries to download anything new, the download fails. At that point she calls you to let you know she can’t download anything and we keep having the same conversation about the fact that if you want anything new, you would have to delete some of the old stuff. “But I want to keep them”, she would always say. Well, you can’t have any new ones then. I hope she isn’t reading this (LOL) but her new line now is that I keep deleting but still no room. Well, you haven’t deleted enough and at this point, the preacher in me starts a sermon about how this is how the Lord wants to hand new things to us but we have no room to receive it.

In our feature text, we are told to make room for what’s coming… “Enlarge your house; build an addition. Spread out your home, and spare no expense!…

My mum’s reasons for wanting to keep those videos and pictures are that they are important but they are standing in the way of receiving anything new and the Lord says… I am the Lord, who opened a way through the waters, making a dry path through the sea. I called forth the mighty army of Egypt with all its chariots and horses. I drew them beneath the waves, and they drowned, their lives snuffed out like a smoldering candlewick. “But forget all that— it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland (Isaiah 43:16-19 NLT).

Beloved, Yes, the Lord has done great things in the past but the problem here is that until you forget the former things, you won’t be able to see the new thing that He is going to do. This is probably why Apostle Paul says… I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us (Philippians 3:13-14 NLT).

So, what do you need to let go off to make room for the new? Also, I once heard someone say that when we keep saying my plate is full, it means you probably need ‎a bigger plate. That way you would have room for more.

Remember how the Lord your God led you through the wilderness for these forty years, humbling you and testing you to prove your character, and to find out whether or not you would obey His commands. Yes, He humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna… He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. FOR ALL THESE FORTY YEARS YOUR CLOTHES DIDN’T WEAR OUT, AND YOUR FEET DIDN’T BLISTER OR SWELL (Deuteronomy 8.2-4 NLT).

Beloved, ‎if you’ve ever been in a position where you look back at what you’ve been or are going through, and wonder how you made it, then you would appreciate this message.

Has the Lord ever made you look good while humbling you at the same time?

I remember been invited for a wedding and the dresscode was all white and I’m thinking okay Lord, I ain’t got nothing white in my wardrobe and I ain’t got no money to shop for any outfit. ‎I talked to Him for a while about it and when I got impatient, I went online and saw a very cheap outfit that I thought would work, however, what you see online isn’t always what you get but then let me just say I felt led (LOL) and bold enough to tell my friend in Africa that I wanted a white outfit made but because of the very short time limit, only a couple of weeks, I didn’t think it was possible. To cut a long story short, the wedding was on the 26th of December but by the 25th, my free outfit was at my door step.

Now, I leave in London and regardless of how much you have, there’s no way you can get some things delivered to you that fast especially during the festive season but God…

Beloved, I slayed that agbada (ask Dr Google), and as people were complementing me, I’m thinking… Lord, if only they knew‎ that… You move mountains… You cause walls to fall… There is nothing that’s impossible… and I’m standing here only because You made a way… (Travis Greene)

Not just that… I’ve been forced to go in my wardrobe and ‎dig out some things that I didn’t even remember I still had and by the time the Lord helps you throw in a few bits here and there, you would be humming… You made a way… When my back was against the wall… and it looked as if it was over… You made a way…

Beloved, when the Lord has sustained you like that, you start to appreciate that man doesn’t live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from His mouth. ‎I was sharing with someone that when the Lord is taking you through this humbling season, when you got nothing to hold on to, the only thing you can turn to is His word.

Beloved, the humbling process isn’t fun but it’s needed for where He’s taking you but know that He has got you covered and won’t disgrace you by making you look like what you’re going through. Why not appreciate Him for sustaining you?

Now from the sixth hour (noon) there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour (three o’clock). And about the ninth hour (three o’clock) Jesus cried with a loud voice, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?—that is, My God, My God, why have You abandoned Me [leaving Me [helpless, forsaking and failing Me in My need]? (Matthew 27:45-46 AMPC)

Beloved, is this how you feel? Well, you won’t be the first? I always say if Jesus who knew the beginning from the end could crack under such pressure, then who am I? But that is why… we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet He did not sin. (Hebrews 4:15-15 NIV). Carrying the heavy burden of our sins on His shoulders and with the intense pain that He was feeling, it became too much for Jesus and with no help in sight, He cried out in despair…My God, My God, why have You abandoned Me.

However, the good news is that we know for a fact that God had not abandoned Him and neither has He abandoned or forsaken you but whats interesting here is that there are things that we may just have to go through to prove to the doubters that… “surely He was the Son of God!” (Matthew 27:54 NIV)

I love the verse that says …DAVID ENCOURAGED HIMSELF IN THE LORD HIS GOD (1 Samuel 30:6 KJV). When it seems like there is darkness everywhere and His face cannot be found, this is what king David would have to say… Yes, though I walk through the [deep, sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I will fear or dread no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort me (Psalm 23:4 AMP).

Beloved, please know today that… The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18 NIV). He has not forsaken you so… Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God (Psalm 42:11 NIV). Go on… ENCOURAGE YOURSELF IN THE LORD YOUR GOD.

On this worship sunday, spend the whole of today and the new week praising and worshiping the Lord and watch how your spirit lifts up… watch the darkness give way to light.
