Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what He is saying… (Revelation 2:29 NLT).

Beloved, imagine how Abraham would have felt if he had gone back to God and said I’ve done what You’ve asked me to do; I’ve sacrificed my son, Isaac and the Lord turns around and says didn’t you hear when I said… Do not lay your hand on the lad or do anything to him? (Genesis 22:12) Really? When? That would have been disastrous.

Throughout the Bible, you would hear God say, “follow my instructions”. These are His instruction’s written in the Bible and things revealed to us through the Holy Spirit. So, if we don’t take time out to spend with Him and hear what He has to say, we may be unknowingly walking in disobedience or waiting in one place while He has said go.

Personally, I never want to stand at the bus stop waiting to catch a bus when the bus has already passed me by and has reached its destination. God gives instructions and many of us are not living according to His will for us because we don’t take the time to hear what He has to say. As a result, we struggle and the enemy keeps gaining an edge over us.

We can learn a lot from David. It’s easy to see why God testified concerning him: I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do (Acts 13:22). And he did… well apart from sleeping with someone else’s wife and killing him. But David was not presumptuous. Faced with the same situation twice, he sought the face of the Lord… The Philistines arrived and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim. So DAVID ASKED GOD, “SHOULD I go out to fight the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me? (1 Chronicles 14:9-10 NLT).”

The Lord said yes and David won that battle… But after a while the Philistines returned and raided the valley again. AND ONCE AGAIN DAVID ASKED GOD WHAT TO DO. “Do not attack them straight on,” God replied. “Instead, circle around behind and attack them near the poplar trees (1 Chronicles 14:13-14 NLT).

Beloved, notice that David didn’t say this is how God said I should do it the last time so I guess this is how He would want me to do it this time. Instead, he inquired of the Lord and the Lord gave him a different strategy. God doesn’t change but His methods change and we must always listen out for what our next move should be. Even Jesus said… “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by Himself. He does only what He sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does (John 5:19 NLT).

Beloved, as we approach the last few hours of the year 2016, let’s take out time to ask God to show us where we have ignorantly missed Him and like our feature text says… listen to the Spirit and understand what He is saying… and as we do so, I pray He directs or redirects out steps in line with His will.

…Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” Peter replied, “You know I love You.” “Then feed my lambs,” Jesus told him. Jesus repeated the question: “Simon son of John, do you love me?” “Yes, Lord,” Peter said, “You know I love You.” “Then take care of my sheep,” Jesus said. A third time He asked him, “Simon son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, “Lord, You know everything. You know that I love You.” Jesus said, “Then feed my sheep (John 21:15-17 NLT).

Beloved, reading Simon Peter’s story, it’s amazing how the Lord can pick you up regardless of how low you sink and say “You know what… it doesn’t matter what you’ve done in the past… It doesn’t matter that you denied me 3 times. All that’s in the past…I STILL WANT TO USE YOU.

Jesus had previously told Peter… you have no idea how much the devil wants to destroy you…But I have prayed for you, Simon that your faith may not fail. AND WHEN YOU HAVE TURNED BACK, STRENGTHEN YOUR BROTHERS (Luke 22:32 NIV) but Peter thought nay…I’m the man…not me…I’m ready to die with You.

So, it’s no surprise that when it happened, Peter decided in his heart…I’ve blown it… I’ve denied Jesus… It’s all over. “I’m going back to fishing” he said and the others agreed to join him. But just like before, they caught nothing all night until Jesus came to their rescue. Then it was a big catch (John 21:3-6).

“SIMON DO YOU LOVE ME?” Jesus asked him 3 times. “Yeeeeeessssssssss”, Peter said…“Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Then feed my sheep.

Beloved, Peter got restored and it marked the beginning of his ministry and on the day of Pentecost,
Peter seized his moment. He stepped forward and started preaching to the crowd… Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?”…Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all (Acts 2:37-41 NLT).

3,000 CONVERTS IN ONE DAY… Well, that’s what happens when the Lord wants to show you that you haven’t completely blown it.

I’ve always found it interesting that Jesus didn’t tell Peter that the devil would not succeed. He didn’t say I’ll bind the devil on your behalf. Instead, He said… I have prayed for your faith… AND WHEN YOU HAVE TURNED BACK… meaning when you’ve been restored… STRENGTHEN YOUR BROTHERS…

Beloved, this means that Jesus knew how things were going to end so I pray that you allow everything that has gone before stay in the past and you grab hold of the chance Jesus has laid before you and, just like Peter received restoration and new release of power and was able to do mighty things for the Lord, you too are able to operate in a higher dimension.

For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! DO YOU NOT SEE IT?… (Isaiah 43:19 NLT).

29. December 2016 · Comments Off on DO YOU HAVE A SPIRITUAL LOW SELF-ESTEEM? · Categories: Identity, Jesus Christ, Truth

Mephibosheth bowed respectfully and exclaimed, “Who is your servant, that you should show such kindness to a dead dog like me?” Then the king summoned Saul’s servant Ziba and said, “I have given your master’s grandson everything that belonged to Saul and his family. You and your sons and servants are to farm the land for him to produce food for your master’s household. But Mephibosheth, your master’s grandson, will eat here at my table.” (Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.) (2 Samuel 9:8-10 NLT)

Beloved, how do you think God sees you? Do you think He really loves you? Do you think God hears you when you pray to him? Or do you this He loves and favours others more than you?

Self-esteem is the opinion you have of yourself and if you have low self-esteem, then the opinion you have of yourself is low. You feel you don’t deserve love or to have any good thing happen to you. Unfortunately, someone like Mephibosheth in our feature text saw himself as a dead dog, a feeling of hopelessness based on what he had experienced from childhood. Can you imagine how many times the devil must have spoken these words to him.

Unfortunately, Mephibosheth is not alone. Today, many people have similar experiences; “I’m a nobody, Nobody loves me, I’m a failure all because of past experiences, family backgrounds etc. However, all of these thoughts are contrary to the truth. They are lies from the pit of hell, preventing people from seeing things the way God desires them to see things but… you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32).

So, what is the truth? The truth is that the Lord says… I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself (Jeremiah 31:3 NLT). The truth is that… overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us (Romans 8:37 NLT).

If Mephibosheth had known the truth (not the fact) about his life, he would have told satan, No, I am not a dead dog, my destiny is to eat at the king’s table. However, that’s a position satan doesn’t want you to attain hence the reason he makes you think Jesus doesn’t really loves you. That God doesn’t hear you when you pray to him and that He loves and favours others more than you. But you must fight for your position on the Kings table. And what do you fight with?

Beloved, you fight with God’s word… for the weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to DEMOLISH STRONGHOLDS. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

You have to replace every negative thought with God’s very own truth. This is something you would have to do over and over and over and over again until God’s truth sinks in but don’t settle for a spiritual low self-esteem.

The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows] (John 10:10 AMP).

Beloved, “when the Holy Spirit fills us, we see that this world’s seductive attractions are only cheap substitutes for what God has to offer”.

This is such a profound statement. I read it in my study Bible and felt it was worth underlining. One of the sure signs that you are really filled with the Holy Spirit and have allowed Him to take centre stage in your life is when you allow Him to lead you to all truth including the fact that this world’s seductive attractions are only cheap substitutes for what God has to offer.

I’m thinking of the time when Jesus changed water into wine during the Wedding at Cana… When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over. “A host always serves the best wine first,” he said. “Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!” (John 2:9-10 NLT)

Beloved, the funny thing about this story is that they probably thought they were having a blast with what they had before but had the wine not run out, they wouldn’t have known there was something better on offer. Could this be the reason why the Lord sometimes allows us to run out of the things we look to for satisfaction?

Also, when Jesus arrived on the scene, He did not come to stop the celebration. Rather, He gave them something better to celebrate with. In the same way, Jesus did not come to take away your life like most people think and therefore resist Him. Rather, our feature text says He came to give us an abundantly life. The Message translation says… I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.

Beloved, do you know that you can’t live an abundant life on cheap substitutes? As we end 2016 and approach the New Year, why not do a stock take of your life and see if there are areas where you are trying to survive on cheap substitutes. Where is your joy coming from? Where is your peace coming from? Where is the thing that gives you fulfilment and satisfaction coming from? Are you really satisfied?

… Should not the Judge of all the earth do what is right?” (Genesis 18:25 NLT)

Beloved, I remember someone saying this about someone who had done them great injustice. They said… “I think God loves them too much and allows them get away with everything. It’s like it’s me He is punishing so I must be one hell of a sinner. They are the one that gets blessed while I get nothing”.

Hmmm… been there… done it… got the t-shirt. I remember I used to say the exact thing too… “It’s like it’s me God is punishing… maybe for something I did wrong. It has got to be the reason why God is blessing them and for me it’s one trouble after another”

Beloved, this has been the question for many who have suffered any kind of injustice. It’s even in the Bible. It troubled the Psalmist for a long time and almost caused him to lose their footing. He said… I envied the proud when I saw them prosper despite their wickedness. They seem to live such painless lives; their bodies are so healthy and strong. They don’t have troubles like other people; they’re not plagued with problems like everyone else (Psalm 73:3-5 NLT)… Did I keep my heart pure for nothing? Did I keep myself innocent for no reason? I get nothing but trouble all day long; every morning brings me pain (Psalm 73:13-14 NLT).

There would always be a time when it feels like there’s no point living for Jesus Christ; a time when you would almost want to give up because it just doesn’t seem fair. However, first of all, know that it’s the enemy bombarding your mind with such thoughts. The Lord is not punishing you for what you have done. It’s not always about you. It’s between the Lord and them.

Secondly, it may seem that way for now but the Lord knows what He is doing… The Lord isn’t really being slow about His promise, as some people think. No, He is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent (2 Peter 3:9 NLT).

Beloved, please don’t change who you are because of someone else. Don’t give in and don’t be bitter. Like the Psalmist said… I realized that my heart was bitter, and I was all torn up inside (Psalm 73:21 NLT). Like I said, I used to think I was being punished but now as I look back, I see that the Lord was taking me through a process and not punishment.

The enemy is a great deceiver. He is excellent at painting a false picture of reality. Don’t buy into it. Do you really think the wicked are prospering? How do you define prosperity anyway? Are you looking at it from the way the world defines it or how the Lord defines it? Think again.

26. December 2016 · Comments Off on WHAT ARE THE SIGNS TO LOOK OUT FOR? · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ

For a Child is born to us, a Son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And He will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His government and its peace will never end… (Isaiah 9:6-7 NLT)

Beloved, after reading our feature text, I’m sure you would expect to see royalty treatment. Drum roll, earth quakes or everything spectacular that you can ever imagine but if you understand how the Lord works then you should know that you are in for a surprise… For to you is born this day in the town of David a Savior, Who is Christ (the Messiah) the Lord! AND THIS WILL BE A SIGN FOR YOU [by which you will recognize Him]: you will find [after searching] A BABY WRAPPED IN SWADDLING CLOTHES AND LYING IN A MANGER (Luke 2:11-12 AMPC).

A BABY WRAPPED IN SWADDLING CLOTHES AND LYING IN A MANGER???? Are you sure you are not mistaking this baby for someone us? How can this be a Saviour… Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace???

Beloved, most times when the Lord makes us great promises, we tend to look out for great signs but I wish I could say He works like that. Here you go; here’s what I said would happen all wrapped up in gold and silver. Wouldn’t that be great? Well, our God doesn’t always work like that. He sometimes takes you on a journey which does not look anything like it would land you at the destination He has promised. And if you are not careful you would miss out on what He is doing because your life would be filled with such pain and disappointment.

Instead of questioning the way the Lord chose to introduce Jesus, the angels were joined by a vast host of the armies of heaven who then burst into praise (Luke 2:13-14). And the shepherds too; they went in search of Jesus and found Him based on the sign they were given… After seeing Him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child. All who heard the shepherds’ story were astonished… The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them (Luke 2:17-20 NLT).

Beloved, what signs are you looking out for? Don’t you know that the Lord uses… things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And He chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful (1 Corinthians 1:27 NLT). Why not be like the angels, the Shepherds and the people and rejoice and praise God despite the signs you can see right now.

24. December 2016 · Comments Off on WHOSE GOVERNMENT ARE YOU UNDER? · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Peace

For to us a Child shall be born, to us a Son shall be given; And the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. There shall be no end to the increase of His government and of peace, [He shall rule] on the throne of David and over His kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness from that time forward and forevermore… (Isaiah 9:6-7 AMP).

Beloved, using yesterday’s post “why are you still struggling?” as backdrop for this, today’s question is “whose government are you under?” This is the religious season where we go all out. Many shop till they nearly drop trying to get gifts for everyone but what gift have you given yourself? Like my daughter said recently, after everything you put yourself true, you end up spending Christmas depressed. Over the years, I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve heard people say “all I’m doing for Christmas is sleep all day” and I’m thinking that’s that spirit of heaviness but like king David did, one needs to ask yourself… why are you in despair, O my soul? (Psalm 42:5). Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad?…

Our feature text informs us that under Jesus’ government, you have peace. You are counselled by a Wonderful Counsellor. He’s the kind of counsellor that would find you sleeping under the broom tree, wake you up, feed you (1 Kings 19:5-8) and when He feels you are ready to talk, He would ask you… “What are you doing here, Elijah?” (1 Kings 19:9 NLT). You are under a different government. Why have you allowed fear rule over you and snatch your peace?

Beloved, whose government are you under? Jesus’ government is what we were promised. The message translation of our feature text says… He’ll take over the running of the world. His names will be: Amazing Counselor, Strong God, Eternal Father, Prince of Wholeness. His ruling authority will grow, and there’ll be no limits to the wholeness he brings…

Beloved, it’s time to… set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth (Colossians 3:2 NKJV). That’s where Jesus rules from and it is… with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation (Isaiah 12:3). So, think joyful thoughts… whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart]. The things which you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things [in daily life], and the God [who is the source] of peace and well-being will be with you (Philippians 4:8-9 AMP).

For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His (Hebrews 4:10 NKJV).

Beloved, the Lord says I have told you… I have come that you may have life, and that you may have it more abundantly (John 10:10 NKJV)

I have told you… “Your salvation requires you to turn back to Me and stop your silly efforts to save yourselves. Your strength will come from settling down in complete dependence on Me— The very thing you’ve been unwilling to do (Isaiah 30:15 MSG)

I have told you… Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be like wool. If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land (Isaiah 1:18-19 AMP)

I have told you… “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28 NLT)

I have told you… “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid (John 14:27 NLT)

I have told you… I will keep in perfect peace all who trust in Me, all whose thoughts are fixed on Me! (Isaiah 26:3 NLT)

I have told you… I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever. (John 14:16 AMPC). By the way, I’ve already done that

I have told you… the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will cause you to recall (will remind you of, bring to your remembrance) everything I have told you (John 14:26 AMPC)

I have told you… to come boldly to the throne of grace, that you may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16 NKJV).

What do you need that I haven’t offered? says the Lord.

Someone jokingly said, if it were in our present time that Jesus had to come to die for us, He would have gone back to God saying, “DEAL’S OFF. I aint dying for these people; no way”. But thankfully, Jesus isn’t like that… He’s so merciful… Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and He is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us. (Romans 8:34 NLT)

Beloved, so why are you struggling? What is it you need that He hasn’t offered? Why not call on the Lord today?… Your own ears will hear Him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go, “whether to the right or to the left (Isaiah 30:21 NLT).

It’s my duty to make sure that satan does not win even a small victory over us, for we don’t want to be naïve and then fall prey to his schemes (2 Corinthians 2:11 Voice).

Beloved, I am currently reading a book by Leif Hetland titled ‘Healing the Orphan spirit’ and the following caught my attention. Referring to when God created Adam and Eve and placed them in the Garden of Eden, Leif Hetland said “It probably drove satan made that his former Lord and king wanted children. He, who was once the ultimate insider, had been booted out of heaven and was now an outsider looking in. The devil watched as the happy family took a stroll in the Garden of Eden. In the cool of the day they walked together – Father, son and daughter. Satan thought he should have been invited to this party. Since he had not received a formal invitation, the only thing left to do was to crash the party and make everyone as bitter and disappointed as he was”.

Immediately I read this, I thought of how people intentionally give wrong advise just so you end up like them. We find many singles or people with broken relationships giving married people or people in relationships wrong advice prompting them to do things that would produce negative results just so they all end up in the same boat.

Beloved, these are secret haters and this is what satan did to Eve. The Bible says… The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” “Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” the woman replied. “It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.’” “You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.” The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness… (Genesis 3:1-7 NLT).

Beloved, Eve chose to listen to Satan and as a result… the Lord God banished them from the Garden of Eden… (Genesis 3:23 NLT). Hmmm… How sad! Satan’s Job was done. Now, just like me, you are homeless. Just like me your relationship has broken down. Just like me, you are jobless

Beloved, our feature text warns us not to be ignorant of the enemy’s devises. You must be careful about who has your ears.

SELAH!

21. December 2016 · Comments Off on BEWARE OF YOUR SECRET HATERS CAUSING OPPOSITION · Categories: Jesus Christ, Trusting God

But when Sanballat… and Tobiah… heard of my arrival, they were very displeased that someone had come to help the people of Israel (Nehemiah 2:10 NLT).

Beloved, this is for anyone trying to build or rebuild and is currently facing great opposition. You are not alone. Nehemiah and his team tried to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem but our feature text tells us that some people were not happy and as a result, they received criticism and strong opposition on every level. Nehemiah said… “When Sanballat, Tobiah, and Geshem… heard of our plan, they scoffed contemptuously. “What are you doing? Are you rebelling against the king?” they asked”. (Nehemiah 2:19 NLT)

To scoff someone means to mock or ridicule. The Message translation says… they laughed at us, mocking, “Ha! What do you think you’re doing?” Sanballat and his crew heard about the great work Nehemiah and his crew were planning to do and they began to laugh and mock them. The plan was to magnify every obstacle and make them feel inadequate so that they become discouraged and doubt themselves; “What do you think you’re doing? You are never going to make it. You will soon give up”.

Beloved, Sanballat also mocked them for being too weak to finish the job. Nehemiah said… Sanballat was very angry when he learned that we were rebuilding the wall. He flew into a rage and mocked the Jews, saying… “What does this bunch of poor, feeble Jews think they’re doing? Do they think they can build the wall in a single day by just offering a few sacrifices? Do they actually think they can make something of stones from a rubbish heap—and charred ones at that?” (Nehemiah 4:1-2 NLT)

But what’s up with you Sanballat? What’s your problem? What are you trying to achieve? Why are you fond of picking faults with everything I do? And then why the rage? Why are you so angry?

Beloved, do you know that Sanballat actually means ‘secret hatred’? Don’t be surprised to find out that some people secretly hate you. You’re bound to discover this as soon as you step out to do anything good and it’s just because you have set out to do something that would change lives or improve the wellbeing of others.

Sanballat believed that if he could get into their minds, he could stop them and that’s what those secret haters do. Their trick is to work on your mind to make you feel you’re not good enough and because they are secret haters, they are very subtle about it. Before you know it, there’s opposition on every side.

Personally, if I had listened to all the criticism and negativity that have been thrown my way, I would have given up long time ago. Many people won’t make a move because of fear that they might be mocked if they failed? They back down because no one likes to be mocked but Nehemiah didn’t back down. He took it to God in prayer, renewed his mind and continued to rebuild the wall (Nehemiah 4:4-6).

Beloved, are you going to allow those secret haters stop you?
