Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day (Genesis 32:24 NKJV).

Beloved, there was a very low moment in Jacob’s life when he found he had to face his struggles all alone. He needed some alone time to figure out the direction his life was taking so he sent his family away and was all alone. During that period, Jacob happened to have wrestled all night long with an unknown man. At that point in his life, he was running away from quite a few people so it could have been anybody. It could have been his twin brother whom he had stolen his birth right from. It could have been his uncle, Laban or maybe one of his uncle’s sons because… Jacob heard Laban’s sons complaining, Jacob has taken away all that was our father’s; he has acquired all this wealth and honor from what belonged to our father (Genesis 31:1 AMPC).

So, you see; Jacob was bound to think he was wrestling with an enemy. This night battle went on for a while and recently, someone highlighted the fact that Jacob wrestled when others went into rest. They then asked the question whether anyone knows what it is to still be battling when all your mates are married… have children… a good career etc…

Anyway, Jacob wrestled with this unknown figure all night and as morning drew near, they decided it was time to exchange pleasantries. The unknown man asked for Jacob’s name and Jacob told him. So in return… Jacob said, “Please tell me your name.” But he replied, “Why do you ask my name?” Then he blessed him there. So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, “It is because I SAW GOD FACE TO FACE, and yet my life was spared.” (Genesis 32:29-30 NIV)

Ok, so it is probably not too polite that our unknown figure did not reply Jacob’s question but what am I trying to say here? Though he didn’t tell him his name, after the long battle that seemed like it would never come to an end; after the long struggle and then the blessing that was bestowed on Jacob, Jacob must have come to the realisation that this can only be God. He said… I SAW GOD FACE TO FACE…

Beloved, when we go through certain battles in life, they can be so tough that we most often think it is the enemy we are battling with. But it isn’t until the battle is all over and you’ve prevailed and come out on the other side that you suddenly realise that it wasn’t really about the devil. It was actually orchestrated by God.

Beloved, the purpose of the battle is to change your name and character from what you were previously known by and to give you a new status fit for the blessing of the Lord. If only you can hang in there till it is morning time, you too would realise that the battle you fought this year was DEFINITELY ORCHESTRATED BY GOD.

Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But MARTHA WAS DISTRACTED WITH MUCH SERVING, and she approached Him and said, “LORD, DO YOU NOT CARE THAT MY SISTER HAS LEFT ME TO SERVE ALONE? Therefore tell her to help me.” And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, YOU ARE WORRIED AND TROUBLED ABOUT MANY THINGS. BUT ONE THING IS NEEDED, and Mary HAS CHOSEN THAT GOOD PART, which will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:38-42 NKJV)

Beloved, every now and then when I find myself drowning in all the things I have to do, I’m reminded of our feature text… MARTHA WAS DISTRACTED WITH MUCH SERVING…

Now, who was Martha serving? Was it not Jesus? And Martha was so convinced that she was meant to be doing what she was doing that she approached Jesus and said, “LORD, DO YOU NOT CARE THAT MY SISTER HAS LEFT ME TO SERVE ALONE? Therefore tell her to help me.”

Beloved, I’m sure she was expecting Jesus to say, “Mary what are you doing here in the sitting room? Don’t you know you are meant to be in the kitchen helping your sister?” But how did Jesus respond? “Martha, Martha, you are WORRIED AND TROUBLED ABOUT MANY THINGS. But ONE THING IS NEEDED, and Mary has chosen that GOOD PART, which WILL NOT BE TAKEN AWAY FROM HER.”

What is that GOOD PART? While Mary was positioned at the feet of Jesus, reverencing Him and listening to what He had to say, Martha was in the words of Jesus Himself, “worrying and troubling about many things”.

There’s this popular saying that Christian’s get too preoccupied doing the ‘WORK OF THE LORD that they no longer have time for the LORD OF THE WORK’. Most times we think this fulfils our calling as men and women of God but I remember when Billy Graham was asked what he would do better if given the chance to do it all again, he said he would study more, pray more, travel less, take less engagements and spend more time in meditation.

Beloved, to spend valuable time with Jesus is something we must make room for and protect selfishly. There you will hear the Master’s heart beat; what He wants you to do; the right moves to take; how to achieve 10 things with only one effort and much more. The Bible tells us of the time Mary was criticised by one of Jesus disciples for anointing Jesus’ feet with very costly oil of spikenard… But Jesus said, “Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial (John 12:7 NKJV). Isn’t it interesting to know that Mary got a revelation that none of Jesus’ 12 disciples were able to get? Could this be because they were distracted by much serving?

Beloved, Jesus often escaped from the crowd to spend time downloading from His Father so that when He reappeared on the scene, it was power all the way. Why can’t we do the same?

The Lord is in His holy temple; the Lord is on His heavenly throne. He observes everyone on earth; His eyes examine them (Psalms 11:4 NIV).

Beloved, there’s nothing like when you know your hands are clean towards people and your motives are pure because that’s when you can boldly come before the Lord and say “Lord, based on what you know about this case, deal with it because I trust your judgement. I know that from where you seat, You see everything and know everything and because You show no favouritism, I trust that you would always be fair”.

Beloved, I found that this is a powerful prayer because nothing goes unnoticed by God. You can then go to bed peacefully knowing that you are not afraid of the outcome because your hands and motives are clean. It’s only if you’ve been dodgy that you become uneasy.

Also, no matter how wise you think you are, your knowledge is always limited. You may not always know what is really going on around you and most times, we tend to deal with situations based on the way they are presented to us. We are always too quick to react based on what we see or hear. We come in contact with and communicate with people on a daily basis. They smile at us. They say things that seem through but we don’t know what is really true and what is false. We assess people based on what we see. However, there is a lot of deception going on. But even putting deception to own side, the Lord knows the outcome of every situation and things that may appear brilliant now may turn out to be very dangerous later so we need to be careful. That lady or guy that looks like a wife or husband material today may turn out to be a real wolf in sheep’s clothing. Not to talk of who you thought was your best friend.

Beloved, you are asked to… Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, And He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way]. (Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV). There’s nothing like when you hand over your whole life to God and say… Lord… from the things You know and see, please deal with every issue concerning my life and help me with my discernment.

Beloved, as far as you are obedient to His voice, you can’t do wrong… If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; (Psalm 91:9-11 NIV)‏

28. October 2016 · Comments Off on WHO’S ADVISING YOU? · Categories: Agreement, Choices, Decision making, Jesus Christ, Relationship

Blessed (happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [FOLLOWING THEIR ADVICE, THEIR PLANS AND PURPOSES], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather (Psalm 1:1 AMPC).

Beloved, working with someone who is easily blown by the wind can be very frustrating. You spend hours contemplating and praying about an issue and just when you think you’ve arrived at a decision, they turn around and change everything just because they’ve spoken to friends and then you hit a dead end. I’ve come across people like that and it drove me crazy. After all the time spent discussing all the physical limitations and agreeing that it’s a job for an unlimited God, they then talk to friends that end up discouraging them. It won’t be so bad if these friends give godly advice but such counter advice come from people who only know how to manipulate the truth, cheat the system and compromise in every way possible.

Beloved, as a Christian, when you want to make decisions, who do you go to for advice? Do you go to friends that would tell you to take shortcuts because everyone’s doing it? Do you go to friends that would tell you to forge a signature so you can get that loan or contract? Do you go to friends that tell you that your biological clock is ticking so if God hasn’t sent you a husband, why not just go ahead and have a baby before you reach menopause? Or if your wife cannot give you a child, why not go and get one outside. Who’s giving you advice?

I love how the Message Translation put our feature text… How well God must like you— you don’t hang out at Sin Saloon, you don’t slink along Dead-End Road, you don’t go to Smart-Mouth College.

We see this happening every day. A group of friends gathering in the barber’s shop, pub or club and after a few bottles, the bottle starts doing the advising. It’s the hairdressing salon for us ladies or we are on the phone for hours (the most unproductive hours of your life) listening to wrong advice. Oh and some of us allow the soap operas and reality (unreality) shows counsel us.

Beloved, as I mature in my relationship with the Lord, I’m finding that a lot of things are coming off my prayer list and new ones added. For example, GOD PLEASE GIVE ME WISDOM to deal with the affairs of life. Lord, help me in making wiser decisions. The Bible says… If any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of the giving God [Who gives] to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or faultfinding, and it will be given him (James 1:5 AMP)

Beloved; many wasted years… many regrets… all because of bad counsel. Is this you? Why not turn to God and ask for His wisdom before you make another mistake.

Even though they may look or act like godly people, they’re not. They deny His power. I tell you: Stay away from the likes of these. They’re snakes slithering into the houses of vulnerable women, women gaudy with sin, to seduce them. These reptiles can capture them because these women are weak and easily swayed by their desires (2 Timothy 3:5-6 Voice).

Beloved, this post may not be for everyone but it’s something that I’ve been prompted to share. One of the many cases the Lord is dealing with in this season is that of the so-called Christian brothers who go from church to church and like what our feature text highlights, their victim are vulnerable women who in most cases are desperate for love, affection and attention and so would jump on any Christian brother that claims to be single. I say so-called Christian brother because they look the part, talk the talk, even speak in tongues but they are not what they claim to be. Again, like our feature text says… Even though they may look or act like godly people, they’re not. They need to truly surrender to God.

Unfortunately, like the way satan deceived Eve, these men are experts at twisting the word of God and because these vulnerable women are not well grounded in the Word, they fall prey. However, once these men get what they want, it’s good bye see you later and they are on to the next woman who is gullible enough to fall prey.

Beloved, while its had to think that this is happening in the body of Christ, unfortunately, it is and many vulnerable women have fallen victim to it. However, I know when I hear the Lord and He has heard their cries and though He may have allowed you to go through some things just to humble you and get your attention, it’s time for these so-called players to either repent or face the judgement of God. This is a case of how the Lord first used nations like Babylon to humble the Israelites. However, after humbling the Israelites, He then took it in turns to deal with these nations; “How dare you treat My children like that?

Beloved, unfortunately, we tend to do things to God’s children thinking that we can get away with it. We think no one sees us but the Bible says… Do not be deceived, God is not mocked [He will not allow Himself to be ridiculed, nor treated with contempt nor allow His precepts to be scornfully set aside]; for whatever a man sows, this and this only is what he will reap (Galatians 6:7 AMP) and… Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right [by executing just and righteous judgment]? (Genesis 18:25 AMP). SELAH!

Women, especially single women need to be very careful and be on guard. Like the Bible says… Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8 AMP).

I, John… I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day… and I heard a voice behind me. It sounded like the blast of a trumpet… When I turned around to see what sort of voice this was that was addressing me, I saw seven golden lampstands. And among the lampstands, I saw One like the Son of Man right in front of me dressed in a long robe… When I saw Him, I fell at His feet. It was as though I were dead. But He reached down and placed His right hand on me. This is not the time for fear… (Revelation 1:9-17 Voice)

Beloved, there’s something that the Apostle of my church talked about recently that has had me thinking for the past few weeks and it’s how John the disciple that Jesus loved reacted when He got reintroduced to the resurrected Jesus Christ. In our feature text, John talks about his vision where he heard a voice behind him. Only for him to turn around to see who was talking to him and what he saw frightened him. He said he saw One like the Son of Man who happens to be none other than the risen Jesus shining in glory.

Beloved, this is the same John that used to chill with Jesus. We are told in the Bible that… One of His disciples, whom Jesus loved (esteemed), was leaning against Jesus’ chest (John 13:23 AMP). We know that this is a reference to John. He was so close to Jesus that he got on the nerves of the other disciples, especially Peter. However, he now sees Jesus but can hardly recognise Him. He said… I saw ONE LIKE the Son of Man…

Beloved, have you ever had a friend that you play around with every day but then when you visit them in their office, you can’t believe it’s the same friend you are so familiar with. Everywhere they go everyone’s making way for them and bowing down to greet them; “Good morning sir”. This is similar to what John witnessed. What he saw was not the Jesus He knew. He said… I saw One like the Son of Man right in front of me dressed in a long robe. Across His chest was draped a golden sash. His head and hair were pure white, white as wool and white as snow; His eyes blazed like a fiery flame; His feet gleamed like brightly polished bronze, purified to perfection in a furnace; His voice filled the air and sounded like a roaring waterfall. He held seven stars in His right hand, from His mouth darted a sharp double-edged sword, and His face shone a brilliant light, like the blinding sun (Revelation 1:13-16 Voice).

This wasn’t the same Jesus that was regarded as nothing on the earth. In this place, He is reverenced and worshiped. However, under the guise of relationship, we have become too familiar with Him that we don’t even respect his name. Many use small letter for ‘jesus’. Many just use ‘IJN’. Many would interrupt their conversation with Him just to answer a phone call or WhatsApp message.

Beloved, how much do you reverence the Lord Jesus Christ? I pray this ministers to you.

25. October 2016 · Comments Off on THE CRY OF RESPONSIBILITY‏ · Categories: Compassion, God's Plan, Intercession, Jesus Christ

When Jesus saw Mary’s profound grief and the moaning and weeping of her companions, He was deeply moved by their pain in His spirit and was intensely troubled. Where have you laid his body? Come and see, Lord. As they walked, JESUS WEPT (John 11:33-35 Voice)

Beloved, this past weekend, I attended a women’s retreat themed ‘Alabaster Box’ based on the woman who wiped Jesus’ feet with her tears (Luke 7:37-38), and let’s just say I’ve never cried like I cried over the course of the three days. During worship, I cried. When I was ministering, I cried. When someone shared something, I cried. It got to the point it was all becoming too weird and I remember telling someone that if you ask me why I am crying, I honestly have no idea but I cried so much that my tears could fill a bucket. In fact, I didn’t just cry. I wailed to the point that it was becoming embarrassing.

After I got home from the retreat, I was so exhausted from all the crying but as I settled down in bed to watch the replay of a Sunday service I usually follow, it just happened that they were preaching about the time Jesus fed the multitude after blessing and BREAKING 5 loafs and 2 fishes. At some point, they started saying that “the tears are a sign that He is breaking you. The tears are not tears of pain. They are TEARS OF RESPONSIBILITY. God is about to break you into a brand-new level”. Hmmm… you can imagine that what they said caught my attention.

How weird? However, I must say this isn’t my first experience. A couple of weeks ago, I shared how the Lord has allowed things to provoke me just so I can travail before Him like Hannah did. And then, earlier in the year, my friend was telling of a painful childhood experience but while she was laughing as she was telling her story, I began to cry uncontrollable and again, this wasn’t ordinary tears. I knew it was the groaning of the Holy Spirit. It felt like it was all the tears she had bottled up from her childhood and I knew Jesus was up to healing some deep-rooted wounds.

Beloved, that was the first time our feature text became very alive to me; “Jesus wept”. Yes, His tears were tears of compassion but they also represented responsibility which said “I’m the One sent to carry the burden of these people and bring about their deliverance.

Why am I sharing this? It’s because there are probably some people who may be experiencing something similar. Perhaps, you’ve become very compassionate and like me, you are now a cry baby. That’s a sure sign of brokenness. Your tears are tears of responsibility and deliverance. God said to Moses… I have avidly watched how My people are being mistreated by the Egyptians. I have heard their groaning at the treatment of their oppressors. I am descending personally to rescue them. So get up. I’m sending you to Egypt.” (Acts 7:34 Voice)

Beloved, what are you crying over? Could the Lord be sending you as a deliverer? (Obadiah 1:21)

24. October 2016 · Comments Off on WHAT KIND OF VESSEL DO YOU WANT TO BE?‏ · Categories: Anointing, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Spiritual Growth, Suffering, Supernatural

Now in a great house there are not only vessels and objects of gold and silver, but also vessels and objects of wood and of earthenware, and some are for honorable (noble, good) use and some for dishonorable (ignoble, common). Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things [which are dishonorable—disobedient, sinful], he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified [set apart for a special purpose and], useful to the Master, prepared for every good work (2 Timothy 2:20-22 AMP).

Beloved, I was listening to someone say that many want to be like all the great personalities we hear about all over the world or we see on TV. In the church world, we want to be like that Bishop, Pastor, Prophet or Apostle who is so gifted and anointed. However, we shouldn’t be seen chasing after personality. Rather, we should humble ourselves before God and ask Him to tell us what it was about their character that made Him raise them to their position.

The Bible gives us great examples. We know about David who was a great worshiper and a man after God’s own heart. We are also told that… David shepherded them with the HONOR AND INTEGRITY OF HIS HEART; he led them in wisdom with strong and skillful hands (Psalm 78:72 Voice)

Moses was another great man of God but he is known for his humility… For his part, Moses was a uniquely humble fellow, more humble than anyone in the entire world (Numbers 12:3 Voice).

Beloved, even Jesus… Though He was in the form of God, He chose not to cling to equality with God; But He poured Himself out to fill a vessel brand new; a servant in form and a man indeed. The very likeness of humanity, He humbled Himself, obedient to death— a merciless death on the cross! So God raised Him up to the highest place and gave Him the name above all (Philippians 2:6-9 Voice)

Beloved, we are to seek after the character that made God raise them up. And then when you think of the process they had to go through. Our feature text talks about the different vessels in a great house. There are vessels of gold and silver and when you think of the process that gold and silver has to go through to get them to a state where they can be used for God’s special purpose, you would think again. They have to be refined by fire.

Beloved, there’s always a price to pay. There are things you have to let go off. You must separate yourself from anything that’s dishonorable in the sight of God and men. You must be put through the test.

For You have put us to the test, O God; You have refined us as silver is refined. You trapped us with a snare; You have laid upon our backs a heavy burden. You allowed us to be conquered and let our enemies run over us. We journeyed through dangers, through fire and flood, BUT YOU LED US FINALLY TO A SAFE PLACE, A LAND RICH AND ABUNDANT (Psalm 66:10-12 Voice).

What kind of vessel do you want to be?

23. October 2016 · Comments Off on CHANGE MY HEART O GOD · Categories: Change, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Relationship, Spiritual Growth

Beloved, I’m one of those people who likes to pay attention to the words of the songs I sing and I remember once singing a particular song and the Lord began to make me meditate on the lyrics. It started by saying… CHANGE MY HEART, O GOD, MAKE IT EVER TRUE; CHANGE MY HEART, O GOD, MAY I BE LIKE YOU…YOU ARE THE POTTER, I AM THE CLAY; MOLD ME AND MAKE ME, THIS IS WHAT I PRAY…

Beloved, what do we think we are actually asking God to do? For example, you say “Lord I need to love people just like You do”. So the Lord says “Ok then, you know I love unconditionally. In fact, while you were still a sinner, I died for you (Romans 5:8) and till date I’ve had to watch you disobey me and do the things I don’t like yet I still love you”. Then He says “it’s easy to love someone that’s easily loveable but to be like Me, you have to love unconditionally. So, let me find the perfect person for you to practice with. He then sends your way that drunken man that you always have to cross over to the other side of the road to avoid or your troublesome mother in-law or that colleague you can’t stand. It’s the same when you ask for help with your temper or impatience.

Beloved, the Lord is happy when we make such prayers but then, His process is likened to the work of a potter. Jeremiah was instructed to visit the potter’s shop and when he got there he found the potter working at his wheel. But the jar he was making did not turn out as he had hoped, so he crushed it into a lump of clay again and STARTED OVER. Then the Lord gave him this message: “O Israel, can I not do to you as this potter has done to his clay? As the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand (Jeremiah 18:3-6 NLT).

This means that just like the potter reworks his clay, the Lord can rework on us until we turn out the way He wants us to be. The Bible says… and the Lord who is the Spirit makes us more and more like Him as we are changed into His glorious image (2 Corinthians 3:18 NLT). With every challenge; every crushing; comes an opportunity to be moulded and our lives gradually become brighter and more beautiful as we allow God work in us to become more like Him.

Spinning around the potter’s wheel isn’t always a nice feeling but our present sufferings cannot even be compared to the coming glory that will be revealed to us (Romans 8:18 NET).

Beloved, the Lord uses various means to perfect all that concerns us and like someone said, the problem with offering ourselves as a LIVING SACRIFICE is that though tied to the altar, however, because we are living, we may occasionally jump around the alter but I pray that the Lord gives us the grace to keep still as He indeed CHANGES OUR HEARTS AND MAKE US MORE LIKE HIM.

“Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. AND I WAS AFRAID, AND WENT AND HID YOUR TALENT IN THE GROUND. Look, there you have what is yours’ (Matthew 25:24-25 NKJV).

Beloved, I think of this story and so many things come to mind. Was this servant just playing safe or was he suffering from insecurity? Was he held back by fear? What’s your own excuse for hiding what you’ve been given? We all have our excuses for not utilizing whatever the Lord has given to us and we think our excuses are valid but apparently, this was something the master did not take likely at all… “But the master replied, ‘YOU WICKED AND LAZY SERVANT! If you knew I harvested crops I didn’t plant and gathered crops I didn’t cultivate, WHY DIDN’T YOU DEPOSIT MY MONEY IN THE BANK? At least I could have gotten some interest on it’ (Matthew 25:26-27 NLT).

He called him WICKED AND LAZY… If it was fear that paralysed you, why did you not deposit what the Lord had given to you into someone else?

Beloved, this just makes me wonder whether this is one area of disobedience that people take likely but in actual fact the Lord is seriously frowning at. The master said… Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents. ‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away (Matthew 25:28-29 NKJV).

Beloved, he went from one to zero because the Lord does not like unfruitfulness. You may think it’s unfair but I am also reminded of when Jesus cursed the Fig Tree… The next morning as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. He noticed a fig tree in full leaf a little way off, so he went over to see if he could find any figs. But there were only leaves because it was too early in the season for fruit. Then Jesus said to the tree, “May no one ever eat your fruit again!”… (Mark 11:12-14 NLT).

Hmmm… But it’s not the right season? Well, so why are you deceiving people with your full display of leaves? And then, Paul told Timothy… be ready in season and out of season (2 Timothy 4:2).

Beloved, what are you doing with what the Lord has placed inside of you? Fear should not stop you. Paul told Timothy… This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:6-7 NLT).

Are you going to be WICKED AND LAZY? Doesn’t sound nice at all. Does it?
