Then unbelieving Jews came from Antioch and Iconium and incited the crowds against the Lord’s emissaries. The crowds turned on Paul, stoned him, dragged him out of the city, and left him there, thinking he was dead. AS THE DISCIPLES GATHERED AROUND HIM, HE SUDDENLY ROSE TO HIS FEET and returned to the city. The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe (Acts 14:19-20 VOICE).

Beloved, I have learnt a number of profound things this year but this is one of those that has topped my list which is appreciating how important it is to have the right kind of gathering around you because when going through some kind of battles that should otherwise leave you for dead, they have the ability to resuscitate you back to life.

This was the situation with Apostle Paul in our feature text. He found himself in a situation where he was left for dead but the disciples gathered around him and as a result, he was able to stand up and continue his journey. Another translation says they… formed a circle around him… and when you picture this I don’t just think they just stood around him looking at him. They must have spoken words of encouragement, prayed for him and did whatever it took to see that he was back on his feet again.

AS THE DISCIPLES GATHERED AROUND HIM… Beloved, this doesn’t have to be a crowd. Just one or two people that are able to discern that all isn’t well with you. They are the ones that will call you and say “I don’t know what you are going through but the Lord placed it in my heart to call you. I was praying the other day and I fell led to pray for you concerning this, this and this”. Oh, you definitely need a few of them and some might even say don’t ask me any questions but just pray along these lines…

I remember talking to a dear sister in Africa who said she went for a prayer meeting and immediately the Lord put it in her heart and she asked herself the question; who is evening praying for Sister Ruky? And then she took it as a task to pray for me and I can’t begin to tell you how that blessed me to know that there are people that would gather round you.

Beloved, we have come to the end of the first half of the year and as we enter the second half, you need to think of the circle of people around you to enable you continue your journey.

They are the ones that will help hold your hand up when you are weary just like they did for Moses (Exodus 17:11-12). Even Jesus had His close circle…

shoesCrowds of sick people—blind, lame, or paralyzed—lay on the porches. One of the men lying there had been sick for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him and knew he had been ill for a long time, he asked him, “Would you like to get well?” “I can’t, sir,” the sick man said, “for I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up. Someone else always gets there ahead of me.” Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!” (John 5:3-8 NLT)

Beloved, my 6 years old grandson came to spend some time with myself and his great grandma and when it was time to go home, I asked him whether he would like to come visiting again and to my surprise, he said NO! So, I asked why? And this is what he said… “great grandma keeps treating me like a baby”.

Hmmm… we all laughed and said to him “but what are you? Aren’t you a baby?” We said that and then we basically dismissed his concerns. However, recently, I began to reflect on what he said. He was basically saying that “I AM OLD ENOUGH TO WEAR MY OWN SHOES” and it wasn’t pride or rebellion speaking, he just knew that he had reached the age where you didn’t have to do everything for him. Off course, there were still things that he definitely needed help with, but somehow, he understood that you cripple a man when first of all, you try to give him the type of support he no longer needs and secondly, you try to do for him what he can do for himself. SELAH!!!

How does this relate to our Christian journey? Just like how a new born baby grows from being a baby into being an infant, and then a teenager, a young adult and into a fully grown man, this is the same with our Christian journey and as we grow into the next stage, we are expected to have matured and be in a position where we are able to do certain things for ourselves. For example, pray for yourself. This is not to say you don’t ask people to PRAY WITH you but when you have to rely totally on others to PRAY FOR you, then you end up crippling yourself. The other thing is reading your Bible for yourself. Like we said yesterday… the Jewish people… day by day, would check for themselves to see if what they heard from Paul and Silas was truly in harmony with the Hebrew Scriptures (Acts 17:11 VOICE).

In our feature text, one of the men lying there had been sick for thirty-eight years because he was waiting for somebody to help him get up but… Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!” (John 5:8 NLT)

Beloved, in what ways are you either crippling yourself or allowing people to cripple you?

28. June 2016 · Comments Off on DON’T JUST GET HYPED‏ · Categories: Jesus Christ, Revelation, Truth, Words

The Jewish people here were more receptive than they had been in Thessalonica. They warmly and enthusiastically welcomed the message and then, day by day, would check for themselves to see if what they heard from Paul and Silas was truly in harmony with the Hebrew Scriptures (Acts 17:11 VOICE).

Beloved, I remember when a friend and I listened to someone preach at a conference. It was one of those occasions where we were like “I’ve never heard anything like that before”. We were so hyped. Even the host was that at some point, he got up and lay down on the stage and when he couldn’t take it anymore, he went to take the microphone from the speaker; “wait… wait… wait… you can’t just rush through something like that. You need to give us some time to allow this sink in”.

It was that mind-blowing and with many more speakers lined up, I remember telling my friend that there was no point in allowing anyone else speak and that if I was the speaker coming on after him, I would just come out and spend the time prophesying over the people and then send them home. What else do I want to say? LOL.

As the next speaker came up, they had to admit that they had been preaching the gospel for decades but as they listened to him preach, they had to wonder… “isn’t this the same Bible I’ve been preaching from?”

My thoughts exactly. However, after the hype was over, myself and my friend started asking questions; “but if what he said was true, why did Jesus say…?” and I remember my friend say “now we are thinking for ourselves”. Like the Christians in our feature text, we were returning back to the Scriptures to see if the things we heard was true.

Even the host had to spend the next service bringing some balance to what was said. He too had gone to search the Scriptures and felt he had a responsibility to correct some things. “Don’t throw out the baby with the water”, he said. However, there are some things that need to be straightened out.

As I reflected on that episode recently, Apollos‎ came to mind…‎ Apollos, an eloquent speaker who knew the Scriptures well, had arrived in Ephesus… He had been taught the way of the Lord, and he taught others about Jesus with an enthusiastic spirit and with accuracy. HOWEVER, HE KNEW ONLY ABOUT JOHN’S BAPTISM. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him preaching boldly in the synagogue, they took him aside and explained the way of God even more accurately (Acts 18:24-26 NLT).

Beloved, Apollos didn’t have a balanced message and that’s why teaching is so important because it establishes you. Charismatic preaching on the other hand in many cases just inspires you.

Beloved, we are perishing for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6). Don’t just get hyped. According to my mum, 3 people can say different things about the same topic and manage to convince you‎. So true but the truth is that while people may sound convincing, the responsibility still lies on us to search the Scriptures to see if what we’ve heard is true.

27. June 2016 · Comments Off on DON’T LET FEAR RULE YOUR DECISION MAKING · Categories: Fear, Jesus Christ, Love, Relationship, Trusting God

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of SOUND JUDGMENT and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control] (2 Timothy 1:7 AMP).

Beloved, there are moments in our lives when we have to make crucial decisions and to be honest, I recently went through that phase were I was almost like a nervous wreck because I didn’t want to miss the will of God. However, because I was so concerned about not missing God, the devil tried to torment the life out of me until the Lord began to minister to me about it.

Beloved, the first thing we ought to know about the nature of God is that He is good. If you don’t know any other attribute, know that He is good. What this should mean is that regardless of whatever you are going through, if you put it up against the goodness of God, you will find that it will always work out for your good (Romans 8:28).

There was the time Elijah was about to lose his mind because of the threat of the enemy. God accessed the situation and the first thing He did before anything else was give Elijah something to eat and drink, and then made sure he caught a good rest before asking him; what are you doing here? (1 Kings 19:5-9).

That’s the side of God the enemy doesn’t want us to see. Unfortunately, because our knowledge of God is wrongly influenced by our painful past experiences, we tend to develop that unhealthy fear where we say I can’t afford to make the wrong decision and yes, nobody wants to make wrong decisions but then, when you become so anxious about it that it’s disturbing your sleep, please know that the devil is behind it.

One way you know the devil is in operation is that there’s torment and fear and we must know that everything rooted in torment and fear is straight from hell. So, if at any point, you are left with feelings of anxiety, worry and fear, these are clues that you are believing a lie from the enemy and it could be that orphan mentality that feels you would be punished by God for missing Him.

However, the nature of God is good and if your heart and motivation is to please Him, He would always step in somehow. Jesus said… I will not abandon you as orphans… (John 14:18NLT), I will be in you, prompting you to make the right decisions.

Beloved, everything rooted in love and joy is from God and one way you know that God is involved in it that there is love and peace. So, the question you need to always ask yourself is “does this bring peace? Does this bring joy? When you are trying to make a decision, that’s what you should put it up against.

Remember, God has given us a spirit of power and of love and of SOUND JUDGMENT… abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind.

…The Eternal passed by him. The mighty wind separated the mountains and crumbled every stone before the Eternal. This was not a divine wind, for the Eternal was not within this wind. After the wind passed through, an earthquake shook the earth. This was not a divine quake, for the Eternal was not within this earthquake. After the earthquake was over, there was a fire. This was not a divine fire, for the Eternal was not within this fire. After the fire died out, there was nothing but the sound of a calm breeze. And through this breeze a gentle, quiet voice entered into Elijah’s ears… (1 Kings 19:11-12 VOICE)

Beloved, have the Lord ever spoken to you and immediately you get the impression that He is so angry with you? Or have you ever received a prophesy from someone and it sounded like the Lord is so mad at you? You then feel depressed. Well, recently, I was listening to someone ask his church to pray for Him. He had just returned from ministration and was complaining that the weather was so hot that it really got to him. He ended up rebuking people as he was prophesying… “the Lord rebuke you for this… That’s just nasty” but later he started asking himself “what’s wrong with me?” LOL… He just wasn’t in the mood and so He wasn’t giving himself time to process what the Lord was saying.

I also remember listening to his wife whose only request from God was that she marries a prophet who heard accurately from Him. However, after she had confirmed that her husband heard clearly from God, her next move was to check what was going on in his soul. Is he suffering from rejection, abandonment, self-condemnation, self-accusation etc.

Why? According to her, a person who hears from God has to channel what they hear through their soul and if they are not fully whole, what they hear tends to be filtered through‎ the fractions of the wounds that they carry.

For example, if you grew up hearing a father or mother’s tone of voice that was always harsh, you end up not knowing what communication looks like you so you deliver God’s word as harsh because the way parents speak to their children shapes the child.

Also, if you’ve suffered from rejection, abandonment, self-condemnation, self-accusation etc., you ought to make sure that your processing system does not poison the word you hear. Like in our feature text, God’s voice was not heard in the storms, earthquakes or fires of life but in a still small voice and so the word that you hear should not be filtered in a toxic environment.

Beloved, I’ve been taking time to just study the different ways people prophecy and have observed that there’s a huge difference with a mouthpiece that’s whole from those that are still broken. I’m also taking time to study how I channel God’s voice. Why am I interpreting it this way? Even if He rebukes, He does it with love but when only a harsh tone is all you know, that’s how you hear Him.

Beloved, how are you hearing from God?

‏For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the SONS OF GOD (Romans 8:19 NKJV)

Beloved, I recently shared on this topic at a conference my daughter hosted and being that I like telling stories, I started like this…

Let’s imagine a king seating on his throne. Each day, various people come to him with various complains about the various calamities taking place in their town. One person comes in with a case of mass abduction or kidnapping. Another comes in with a case of terrorist attack and war. Yet another comes in with a case of street crime. Another says my daughter is dying of cancer. There’s calamity everywhere and there’s no one else to turn to.

However, as they bring their various complains to him, he says “don’t worry I’ve assigned my heirs all over to take care of your problems. They represent me and ideally should have the power and authority to handle all your issues. For example, see that one over there but as he zooms into that son’s life, the citizen says “are you sure?” But he’s still going on about what to wear and what car to drive. Also, he’s just finished posting some scandal about his brother which has now gone viral. Their heart is full of pride, jealousy, unforgiveness… you name it. So, the king says “okay, I’m Sorry. These are still babes (1 Corinthians 3:1)

What about that one over there? Well, he’s still wrestling with his flesh (Romans 7:15-20)

What about that pastor? Well, isn’t he only preaching about his own agenda and can’t you see them stabbing each other over position (Matthew 18:1)?

The king is sad because he can’t find who to represent him. His sons lives are no different from the people they’ve been sent to rescue.

Beloved, our feature text says that the world is desperately waiting for the revealing of the sons of God but who are these? Now, the same Greek word used for son here is the same word God used when He said… this is My beloved son (Huios) HEAR HIM (Matthew 3:17). They are the mature sons of God, resembling His character, sharing His same nature/likeness. They have the mind of Christ, have destroyed and subdued their flesh; earthly appetite and material desires; are led by the Spirit of God and receive revelation of the kingdom (Matthew 16:18-19). They represent their Father and only do His will.

These are the ones that now have legal right to their Father’s inheritance. Like Joseph, they are righteous administrators that can steward His finances, can display His glory and so are sent into the world systems; governmental and Political, educational, health, media, finance and like Elisha are able to inform the rulers of trouble (2 Kings 6:8-12) and prophecy hope (2 Kings 7:1).

Beloved, the world desperately awaits the manifestation of the sons of God; not babies… pastors… prophets… but mature sons of God and speaking in tongues or prophesying isn’t maturity.
However, how many ‘Huios’ sons are there?

Today the Lord is saying… My son, give Me your heart, and let your eyes observe My ways (Proverbs 23:26 NKJV)

24. June 2016 · Comments Off on DO YOU HAVE TO BE THE GREATEST? · Categories: God's Plan, Identity, Jesus Christ, Power and Authority, Promise, Relationship, Spiritual Growth

…The disciples came to Jesus and asked, “WHO IS GREATEST IN THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN?” Jesus called a little child to him… Then He said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 18:1-3 NLT).

Beloved, I once heard a joke about a man who died and went to heaven. On getting to the gates of heaven, he was asked his name and so he said my name is “Professor, Arch Bishop, Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist So So”. The angel of the Lord went over the books and then said “sorry but I can’t find your names in here. In horror, the man said check again. Are you trying to say you can’t find So So in the book? The angel took another look and said sorry ‘So So’ is but not Professor, Arch Bishop, Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist So So (LOL).

Unfortunately, right from Bible country, people have always based their identity on what they do rather than who they are and so are always looking for position. In our feature text, we see the disciples fighting for position… WHO IS GREATEST IN THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. This has continued till present day. We tend to have the mind-set where we feel “I AM IMPORTANT BECAUSE I HAVE A POSITION”. However, this goes back to that orphan mind-set where we are trying to get validation from being important but the kingdom of heaven is simplicity. It belongs to childlike people and so Jesus had to demonstrate this.

Jesus said, you see this child here; that’s how you ought to behave. Your identity in the kingdom comes from being a child. Take a child pass an ice cream shop and they don’t care how you get the money. You are my father aren’t you? Just get me ice cream. That’s a child’s mentality but then you begin to grow into a mature son that’s ready to handle and not misuse your inheritance.

Unfortunately, today, we have hierarchical systems that teach that you’ve got to walk your way up and people have bought into the lie that I’ve got to have a title to be great but our value isn’t based on our position or title nor is it based on a performance ranking system.

Beloved, the kingdom of heaven is based on a Father/son relationship and sons know it has nothing to do with anything I do and in this season, the Father is pulling people back; inviting them to that place where they can just be sons/daughters.

I know it’s hard when you’ve been important for a very long time but God has had to strip me to my core and He says our orphan mind-set which unfortunately started when Adam and Eve’s sin separated them from God, is preventing us from becoming sons. An orphan mind-set is always looking for validation and so would end up misusing and abusing resources, power, authority and their sonship privileges so God may not be able to use you just yet… unless you turn from your sins and become like little children (SON)…

So Joshua circumcised their SONS—those who had grown up to take their fathers’ places—for they had not been circumcised on the way to the Promised Land. After all the males had been circumcised, they rested in the camp until they were healed. Then the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the shame of your SLAVERY in Egypt”… (Joshua 5:7-9 NLT)

Beloved, I started this identity crisis series by saying that a father’s role is to confirm and validate your identity and the reason why God wants to resolve identity crisis in this season is so you are in a position to possess your inheritance as sons.

In our feature text, the Israelites were about to enter their Promised Land but before they could go any further, Joshua had to circumcise them because their fathers didn’t. Why? It was because circumcision was what the Lord told Abraham to do to himself and his sons; a covenant sign to show they belonged to Him (Genesis 17:10-14). It gave them their identity. However, in this case, these sons were not circumcised because their fathers who were supposed to do it for them where not around.

So, the Lord asked Joshua to circumcise them; give them their identity and after doing it… the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the shame of your SLAVERY in Egypt.” That day, they crossed over from SLAVES to SONS which gave them access to their inheritance.

Today, there are many that haven’t had their identities validated by their dads either because he was an absentee, passive, authoritarian or abusive dad so they go about with this slave mentality with an orphan spirit. The term orphan spirit is a spiritual condition where Christians that profess outwardly to know God as their Father, contradicts how they really feel because, deep down, they struggle to comprehend that God loves them unconditionally and has got their back no matter what. They struggle to trust Him and like the prodigal son’s elder brother, always feeling they have to earn their inheritance (Luke 15:29-31) but Apostle Paul says… you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ (Galatians 4:7 NKJV)

Understanding your sonship is so important because it gives you unwavering confidence in God. I was listening to someone say that there was nothing in David’s mind that said “I’m not going to win‎ this battle against Goliath” because he knew who his Father was (1 Samuel 17:45-46) and… when Saul saw David going out against the Philistine, he said… WHOSE SON IS THIS YOUTH?”… “INQUIRE WHOSE SON THIS YOUNG MAN IS.” (1 Samuel 17:55-56 NKJV)

Obviously, it couldn’t have been Jesse, David’s biological father who forgot he had a son that gave David this confidence (1 Samuel 16:8-11). It was “ABBA! FATHER!”

Beloved, are you a son or a slave?

You have not received a spirit that returns you to slavery, so you have nothing to fear. The Spirit you have received adopts you and welcomes you into God’s own family. That’s why we call out to Him, “ABBA! FATHER!” as we would address a loving daddy (Romans 8:15 VOICE).

I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well (Psalm 139:14 NKJV).

Beloved, I’ve said that this is a year that the Lord has been taking me back to revisit many things from my past so I can resolve any identity crisis that could hold me back from my future.

Towards the end of last month, we held a mini school reunion with a few of my secondary school classmates based in the UK. Some of these guys I hadn’t seen since 1989 when we finished secondary school so as I entered the venue where we held our mini school reunion, someone immediately posted in my picture standing with a few other guys to our class WhatsApp group with the caption saying “pretty Ruky is in the house” and I’m thinking really? Anyway, it was a great reunion and during the course of the day, I caught one of the ladies staring at me and when I asked her why, she said something like I’m amazed at how pretty you are.

Hmmm… I went home thinking “they think I am PRETTY”. But if only they knew that I spent my whole secondary school years believing they felt I was ugly!!! Oh my God, satan lied to me!!! And it affected my choices in life which cost me 1001 heartbreaks and two divorces all because I was looking for validation from handsome men (LOL). I posted the pictures on Facebook with exactly what I am sharing with you now and many of my schoolmates were surprised. Why would you think like that? We always thought you were… this, this and that. The comments were so flattering that I replied to one saying I need to go and take another look in the mirror.

Oh how satan lied to me. Unfortunately, this is how a wrong perspective about your identity can shape your life in a wrong direction. I was listening to someone say the greatest thing you will ever learn is how to think correctly about yourself and about God because it impacts our success in the kingdom and everything else.

Also, I remember listening to a prophet telling someone that God says it offends Him the way you see yourself. We tend to say God see me differently but God says it’s not how I see you but how you see yourself and if you see you differently, you will see Me differently. If not, you would be moulded into something I didn’t ordain for you. SELAH!!!

I love how the Voice translation puts our feature text… I will offer You my grateful heart, for I am Your unique creation, filled with wonder and awe. You have approached even the smallest details with excellence; Your works are wonderful; I CARRY THIS KNOWLEDGE DEEP WITHIN MY SOUL.

Beloved… you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32 NKJV). What knowledge about yourself is your soul carrying? It’s time to knock down the strongholds of false human reasoning and teach your rebellious, negative thoughts to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

Then He said, Let Me go, for day is breaking. But [Jacob] said, I will not let You go unless You declare a blessing upon me. [The Man] asked him, WHAT IS YOUR NAME? And [in shock of realization, whispering] he said, Jacob [SUPPLANTER, SCHEMER, TRICKSTER, SWINDLER]! And He said, Your name shall be called no more Jacob [supplanter], but Israel [contender with God]; for you have contended and have power with God and with men and have prevailed (Genesis 32:26-28 AMPC).

Beloved, has God spoken things over your life but your life’s story doesn’t match with your prophetic word? In our feature text, Jacob wrestles for a blessing but before he is blessed, he is asked this very important question; “WHAT IS YOUR NAME?” Why?

The prophetic word over Jacob’s life was that he was going to rule a nation (Genesis 25:23) yet he gets this name by his mum… supplanter, schemer, trickster, swindler, deceiver. As a result, as he journeys through life, he began doing things that act out this name. He tried to make things happen on his own and it cost him many years of painful labour.

Beloved, you need to deal with the process of you or your children being miss named. You must watch out for what name you’ve been called that’s contrary to your inheritance because that’s what begins to play out in your life. You are not what people have called you and you are certainly not what you’ve been through. Many people mistake their history and the things life has thrown at them for their identity but that’s what the enemy just uses to confuse you. However, the beauty of our God is that He makes everything workout for your good and His purpose (Romans 8:28).

God wanted to get Jacob in an isolated place where He could give clarity to his vision; clarity to who he was and clarity to where he was going. The prophetic word over his life was that he would rule but what he had seen up to that point was deception, hardship, heartbreak, fear, anxiety… so Jacob had to be renamed. God took the identity in which he had lived in and began to shift it into a place of promise.

Beloved, what is your name? Who are you? The devil is fine with you having a partial understanding of who you are. He is fine with you living your life based on what your father, mother, classmates, friends or teachers have called you but when you discover who you really are, then you really become a threat to him. This is why in this season, God is‎ redefining identities because there’s something that comes with your true identity that gives you clarity of who you really are and once you get that clarity, you begin to see the portion of what is due to come for you.

Beloved, from the beginning of this year, I’ve had to wrestle with who I really am. I’ve had to revisit many things from my foundation. Perhaps that’s what your battle is really about.
