Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth (Colossians 3:1-2 NLT).

Beloved, a few weeks ago, I was having a conversation with a young lady about the fact that many of us still need to go through the process of renewing our minds and that if given the opportunity, all year round, I would preach from Romans 12:2 which is the text that says… Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect (Romans 12:2 NLT).

‎The reason I said this is because though we are familiar with this text, and we know that renewing the way we think is necessary, we still allow our minds and the way we think defeat us. The thing is that everybody thinks but thinking right takes a lot of thinking and rethinking about what we are thinking to make sure they are aligned with the word of God. I have found that much of our thinking is distorted and unfortunately… as he thinks in his heart, so is he… (Proverbs 23:7 NKJV). If your thoughts are negative it would be had for you to succeed and the difference with you and the next person is the way you think‎.

Beloved, our feature text says we should set our minds on the things of heaven and I like how the Message translation says… if you’re serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s where the action is. See things from His perspective.

After you have been saved, the first thing you should handle ‎to enable you live the new life is your mind because you are no longer to think like the people of this world think. According to my Bible notes “Paul knows the people in Colossae are facing many religious and philosophical options, none of which are neutral. Notice Paul doesn’t say, “Just add Jesus to what you already believe,” or, “Factor Jesus into your philosophy,” or, “Include Jesus in this or that ritual.” The claim that “Jesus is Lord” does not allow that. If Jesus is Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer of all creation, then all other teachings must give way. All people must bow before Him and only Him”.

Beloved, this is a call to‎ set your mind to see things from Jesus’ perspective and not that of this world. It is a call to renew your mind so you can start living a victorious life.

So teach us to number our days, that we may cultivate and bring to You a heart of wisdom (Psalm 90:12 AMP).

Is your day happening to you instead of you happening to your day? Beloved, this was a question someone asked recently that really convicted me that I had to immediately say “Lord have mercy and help me” because this is an area He said He required real discipline from me as I was leaving my job to enter full time ministry. Why? It’s because when you are working for someone, they have a schedule that helps you manage your day but when you no longer have that kind of structure, if not disciplined, there’s the possibility to just respond to what the day throws your way. And then, there are people that just feel you are now available at the drop of a heart.

They then went on to talk about this whole thing that we use to cover up for our disorderliness which is the notion of being spirit-led but I like when they said that the Holy Spirit is not dumb. He would not interrupt you in the middle of doing things and begin to send you in various directions bringing about chaos in our lives and relationships. He is actually very orderly and yes, there are times when He may interrupt your plans to do what He has to do but most times, He has already started directing you days, weeks and even months ahead of time but you’ve just been too busy doing things that could actually be good things but not necessarily God things.

‎Beloved, the question was then asked “how do you know you’ve become too busy and the reply was “when you no longer have time for your spouse and children and when it starts to affect your health; this is when you become too busy that you can only catch a few to no hours sleep. If you find yourself in that position then know that you could be doing good things but they are not necessarily God things because firstly, the Lord gave us 24 hours in a day. If He felt that wasn’t enough then, He would have given us more.

Also, the Bible says… It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to His loved ones (Psalm 127:2 NLT). I love how the Message translation says… It’s useless to rise early and go to bed late, and work your worried fingers to the bone. Don’t you know He enjoys giving rest to those He loves?

Beloved… the blessing of the Lord brings wealth, WITHOUT PAINFUL TOIL FOR IT (Proverbs 10:22 NIV). In balancing your life, you ought to have a schedule and also, you ought to manage and prioritise your energy levels so you save your energy for the things that are most important.

Remember, John said… my beloved friend, I pray that everything is going well for you and that your body is as healthy as your soul is prosperous (3 John 2 VOICE).

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need (Matthew 6:33 NLT).

Beloved, we all know the story of David and how he loved to be in the presence of the Lord! Growing up, he spent a lot of time in God’s the presence writing songs, praising and just worshiping God. I’m sure that’s where he learnt all his special dance moves that embarrassed the life out of his wife. But then there was Saul. Right from the very day he felt David was a threat, he did not allow the poor boy rest. David was always running for his life until Saul and his sons died and then he was eventually anointed king over all of Israel.

David had to fight some more enemies but immediately he had some peace, there was only one thing on his mind; the presence of God. Then David again gathered all the elite troops in Israel, 30,000 in all. He led them to Baalah of Judah to bring back the ARK OF GOD, which bears the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, who is enthroned between the cherubim. (2 Samuel 6:1-2 NLT).

And not just that. David’s next mission was to build a ‘house’ for the Lord to live in… When King David was settled in his palace and the Lord had given him rest from all the surrounding enemies, the king summoned Nathan the prophet. “Look,” David said, “I am living in a beautiful cedar palace, but the Ark of God is out there in a tent!” (2 Samuel 7:1-2 NLT)

The Lord had to stop him. “David, are you the one to build a house for me to live in?

David was the King of all of Israel, but his heart’s desire was seeking after the things of God first. Shouldn’t this be the case for us too? In our feature text, Jesus says we should seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

But what things? Well, we know that the Ark of the Lord came with blessings because when David ran into some problems transporting the Ark, so out of fear he left it with Obed-edom… but then King David was told, “The Lord has blessed Obed-edom’s household and everything he has because of the Ark of God.” So David went there and brought the Ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the City of David with a great celebration. (2 Samuel 7:1-2 NLT)

LOL…give me back what belongs to me.

Beloved, we tend to get our priorities mixed up and run after the very things that should be running after us. Just like the Bible says… All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you pay attention to the voice of the Lord your God (Deuteronomy 28:2 AMP).

Beloved, today, Jesus is saying “seek Me first and see what will follow”. Are you going to heed to His voice?

“Go over to Straight Street, to the house of Judas. When you get there, ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul. He is praying to me right now. I have shown him a vision of a man named Ananias coming in and laying hands on him so he can see again.” (Acts 9:11-12 NLT)

Beloved, this past weekend marked a major turning point in my journey with the Lord. I was in that in-between place and had been waiting on Him for directions until one day, in a dream, He showed me a particular Apostle from the united states. At first, I couldn’t make any sense of it but then I later found out that he was coming to the UK for a programme. So, I told God that if He wanted me to attend, the programme, I wanted to see him in my dream again and then, He should send the money so I could attend the programme.

Beloved, that same night, I dreamt and saw the Apostle again and then the next day, someone sent me some money with accompanying notes that said “the Lord wants you to have this.” Wow… I was so excited because I felt the Lord really wanted me to be there so I had planned to attend just the evening session because the morning sessions were not free. However, I felt the Lord prompting me that I needed to attend the morning sessions and so I said, okay, if You want me to attend, then please provide the means. Hmmm… as I was busy having this conversation, a friend sent a message asking how the morning session was going. I told them that the morning sessions were starting the next morning for two days but I won’t be attending because they were not free but then they said “if you want to go for the morning sessions, I would pay for it. “Really? Are you sure?”

Hmmm… they ended up paying for the sessions and later told me that it was the Holy Spirit that prompted them to ask about the session and pay for me to attend. At that point, I screamed because, I realised that unknown to me, conversations were taken place on my behalf. Also, the Apostle that came all way from the United States had a word from the Lord for me that was instructions for my next level and not just that, the impartation by laying of hands followed.

Beloved, I’m still overwhelmed by what happened and as I pondered over the course of events, Saul’s (Paul) case came to mind. After Saul’s encounter with Jesus, he went to Damascus where he waited three days and while he was there, the Lord began to speak to Ananias about him (Acts 9:9-10). He then sent him off to give Saul his sight back.

Beloved, this was exactly what happened to me this past weekend and it reveals that the Lord knows exactly where you are and is having conversations about you and though it may not feel like it, you have to trust that He knows the plans He has for you and will send you your Ananias at the appointed time. So be still.

‏All the ways of a man are clean and innocent in his own eyes [and he may see nothing wrong with his actions], but the Lord weighs and examines the motives and intents [of the heart and knows the truth] (Proverbs 16:2 AMP).

Beloved, I was reading the story of David, a man after God’s heart (1 Samuel 13:14, Acts 13:22). Everybody knew him to be a humble and faithful leader. However, when he was supposed to be leading his men, he stayed behind to mess with one of his men’s wife and then when she became pregnant, he sent for Uriah and told him‎… “Go on home and relax.” David even sent a gift to Uriah after he had left the palace. But Uriah didn’t go home. He slept that night at the palace entrance with the king’s palace guard (2 Samuel 11:8-9 NLT) and… when David heard that Uriah had not gone home, he summoned him and asked, “What’s the matter? Why didn’t you go home last night after being away for so long?” (2 Samuel 11:10 NLT)

When he sees His plan did not work, he arranges for Uriah to be killed after seeing that his plans didn’t work…Then David invited him to dinner and got him drunk. But even then he couldn’t get Uriah to go home to his wife. Again he slept at the palace entrance with the king’s palace guard. So the next morning David wrote a letter to Joab and gave it to Uriah to deliver (2 Samuel 11:13-14 NLT) and we know the rest of the story.

Now, judging from the outside, people may have said “isn’t David kind? Look how he is so interested in Uriah’s welfare”. To people, it looks like David is a good leader interested in Uriah’s welfare sending him home to rest and be with his wife but it was far from it. David had a hidden agenda but the thing is that because he already has a good ‎reputation, nobody would ever suspect this but according to my Bible notes…. “even when someone has a reputation for good character—and David must have one, since he is beloved of God—temptation can lead him to act totally against his own values. David takes Bathsheba because he wants her and because he has the power to do so; he orders her husband into battle to be killed” and in so doing, “he exploits a loyal servant and wreaks havoc on his house”.

Unfortunately, David took advantage of Uriah’s loyal service and his plan worked and it went unsuspected but we are told… the Lord was displeased with what David had done (2 Samuel 11:27 NLT)

Beloved, when you are under such influence, even if you sense something isn’t right, who would you tell? It would be difficult to be understood because they generally have a good reputation but I love that God who is the defender of the oppressed (Psalm 140:12), who according to our feature text, weighs and examines the motives and intents of the heart and knows the truth, never allows injustice to go on for too long and in the end He will speak on your behalf.

My peace is the legacy I leave to you. I don’t give gifts like those of this world. Do not let your heart be troubled or fearful (John 14:27 VOICE).

Beloved, on Sunday morning, I received a call from a lady and as I picked the phone, I could hear her crying but when I asked what was wrong, I found it was actually tears of joy. She kept on saying “Jesus is real… Jesus is real. He spoke to me. He knows everything about me. He isn’t angry with me. I thought He had abandoned me but He loves me… He is real”. I listened to her for a bit and was really excited for her but soon had to dismiss her because I was in the middle of something.

Later that evening, I was sharing the story with someone else and was surprised at how emotional I got. I was crying as I was telling them “she said Jesus is real… He spoke to me. He isn’t mad at me”. I was really wailing and after that conversation, I decided to check on the lady.

However, when I called her, I noticed that her countenance was down. I was surprised because I felt she would still be on top of the moon. I know I would. When I asked what was wrong, she said she was so excited that she decided to go out with some people after church. As they went out, one of them did something to her that left her upset. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing and so I asked;‎ how does one go from being so excited in the morning to feeling down in the evening? How does one go from ‘Jesus is real… He spoke to me’ to ‘I’m a bit upset’ all in the same day? I said if it were me, nothing anyone could do or say could spoil my day. She tried to explain that it’s just that she was a bit taken aback by how people are and so I said, it’s not so much about what people do but about how we react to the situation.

So, I started to talk about offences and maintaining peace. Jesus said… It is impossible that no offenses should come… (Luke 17:1 NKJV) and if there are issues to be resolved, by all means do so. I for one know what it is for offence to eat away at you if not resolved but the Bible says we should always forgive (Luke 17:3-4).

In our feature text, Jesus says… My peace is the legacy I leave to you. I don’t give gifts like those of this world… The world says you are at peace when everything is going well but Jesus says peace can be achieved in the midst of the storm (Mark 4:39).

Beloved, the devil is not after your car, your husband, your house but after your peace of mind and so you must decide not to give your peace away that’s why Paul said… If it is within your power, make peace with all people (Romans 12:18 VOICE).

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, JUST AS YOUR SOUL PROSPERS (3 John 2 NKJV).

Beloved, I’ve been dealing with a lady who was called into full time ministry. Initially, the Lord provided for her but His provision soon stopped and she eventually lost her house and was forced‎ to move in with her mum. She was confused. She felt the Lord was punishing her because she didn’t meet up. She started to try all she could to catch up but she couldn’t because she was so worn-out from years of over-performance. She suffered anxiety, tension headaches, struggled with sleep and begged God to end her life.

One day she was preparing a meal which unfortunately turned out to be a bit salty. Immediately, she panicked because her mum had already complained about something else regarding the food. “What am I going to do?” She started crying and pleading; “Lord, please help me. Please get me out of here because I’ve only started gaining confidence but if I stay here any longer, I’m going to lose every confidence in my ability to ever do anything right”. This was because her mum was constantly pointing out her faults to the point that every morning she would beg the Holy Spirit to help point out anything that would cause her mum to complain so she could correct it before she saw it.

Immediately, ‎the Lord reminded her of a childhood experience. It was a Saturday and her mum went to work leaving her and her sister to take care of the house. So, they both decided to clean and tidy the whole house. They later fell asleep because they were tired but as they slept, their younger brother made his way to the kitchen store and poured some salt on the floor. When their mum came back, she overlooked all they had done and complained bitterly about the salt on the floor.

Beloved, as she pondered over that incident, the Lord began to show her that this was where her drive for perfectionism began and why she always felt not good enough and struggled to accept peoples compliments. She always expected a‎ ‘BUT…’ to follow every compliment.

The Lord began to ‎show her that unless she dealt with this issue and heal from it, it would affect her ability to function well in ministry and most importantly, how she saw Him. She would always have the mind-set of “I HAVE TO PERFORM PERFECTLY TO EARN HIS APPROVAL AND AVOID HIS PUNISHMENT”; a symptom of an ‘orphan spirit’ which I plan to write on soon.

Also, it would affect how she related with others and this is why we have a lot of people wounded by broken church leaders who haven’t healed from their childhood insecurities. She had already noticed how she had passed this on to her own daughter who was always a nervous wreck around her because of her criticizing and has since resolved never to ever make her feel that way again. It made her wonder what kind of relationship her mum had with her own mum.

Beloved, this lady wanted to know what God was up to when He sent her back to leave with her mum. He simply wanted to heal her soul by following what Job did with his friend (Job 42:9-10).

And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free (John 8:32 NLT).

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, JUST AS YOUR SOUL PROSPERS (3 John 2 NKJV).

On Saturday, we had our monthly meeting by the well where we experienced a great move of God as He began a deep healing of the soul which I’m going to be sharing as He leads. Our feature text was one that He opened our eyes to and the first thing we saw was that this is a prayer of a condition John desired for his friend. The KJV says… I wish above all things…

Beloved, when you wish for something, it means it’s something you desire and for John, this was that 1) Gaius prospers and 2) be in good health. However, there’s a condition which depends on how well his soul prospers. This suggests that we need to pay attention to the condition of our souls because it determines how well we prosper in other areas of our lives.

Over the past few years, the world has experienced the death of some very well-known celebrities’ who were very wealthy but suffered from ailments like insomnia and eventually died from drug abuse; both hard and prescription drugs and I remember coming across a diagram that said hurt in your BODY is experienced in sickness, weakness, decease, pain. Hurt in your SOUL is experienced in mental anguish, emotional instability, paralysis of will. Hurt in your SPIRIT is experienced in emptiness, hopelessness, futility, loneliness etc.

Beloved, I believe this sums up John’s prayer. The Amplified Bible says… I pray that in every way you may succeed and prosper and be in good health [physically], just as [I know] your soul prospers [spiritually].

Your soul is made up of your will, desires, emotions etc. and a healthy soul is free from offence, anger, bitterness, jealousy, insecurity, low self-esteem, brokenness, anxiety, fear etc. One doesn’t have trust issues. One isn’t abusive or controlling. One isn’t competitive because they don’t feel the need to prove themselves. As a result, your relationships with your spouse, children, friends, colleagues, parents, boss/leaders prospers which also affects other areas of your life. And then, when your will is also fully surrendered to God, you experience true prosperity (Proverbs 10:22).

Beloved, Hannah was one that had to empty her soul. She told Eli… I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I… have poured out my soul before the Lord… Then Eli answered and said, “Go in PEACE, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have asked of Him.”… So the woman went her way and ate, and her face was NO LONGER SAD (1 Samuel 1:15-18 NKJV).

Hannah conceived after getting rid of everything negative in her soul and aligning her will with God’s will as it concerns Samuel and then Eli said… GO IN PEACE… which is SHALOM in Hebrew and according to Strong’s Concordance, SHALOM refers to completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety, soundness, tranquillity, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord”.

Beloved, the Lord desires that your soul prospers because everything else falls in line so, in this season, be attentive as He reveals things that explains the condition of your soul.

23. May 2016 · Comments Off on PURGING YOUR HEART BEFORE GOD · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Relationship, Repentance, Worship

Search me [thoroughly], O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there is any wicked or hurtful way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting (Psalm 139:23-24 AMPC).

Beloved, these were the words of David who was by no means a perfect man but understood that God, to whom it matters most, is always looking deep into the heart of man. With God, IT IS A MATTER OF THE HEART… Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord WEIGHS AND TRIES THE HEARTS (Proverbs 21:2 AMPC). I believe that’s why you would always hear David say things like… Put me on trial, Lord, and cross-examine me. Test my motives and my heart (Psalm 26:2 NLT). As Christians, this is so important. God already knows we are not perfect that’s why He gave us the Holy Spirit to help us.

God looked down from His throne at all the people on the earth and said, “that’s the man I’m looking for” …HE RAISED UP DAVID to be their king; of him He bore witness and said, I have found David son of Jesse A MAN AFTER MY OWN HEART, WHO WILL DO ALL MY WILL AND CARRY OUT MY PROGRAM FULLY (Acts 13:22 AMPC).

Do you think that when God looked down at David and said “this is a man after My own heart”, God did not know David was going to commit adultery, kill the husband and take his wife? But David always presented his heart before God. God said David…WILL DO ALL MY WILL AND CARRY OUT MY PROGRAM FULLY… How did David achieve this? …He knew all sorts of things can get in the way…self-ambition; wrong motives etc. so all day long he cried out… SHOW ME HOW YOU WORK, God; SCHOOL ME IN YOUR WAYS. Take me by the hand; Lead me down the path of truth. YOU ARE MY SAVIOR, AREN’T YOU? (Psalm 25:4-5 MSG)

God ‘RAISED UP DAVID’ meaning ‘TO TRAIN’…and David was willing to learn. He must have said “You called me into this thing; I did not call myself so SHOW ME HOW… This is a desperate cry for help from someone that knows that if you leave me to it, I’ll mess it all up. Even with good intentions, you can still miss it because… There is A WAY WHICH SEEMS RIGHT TO A MAN AND APPEARS STRAIGHT BEFORE HIM, but at the end of it is the way of death (Proverbs 14:12 AMP). This means that as far as you are concerned, you may think you are doing the right thing but the end is disaster.

Beloved, I’m by no means perfect but one thing I always do is present my heart before God; all my wrong motives, malicious thoughts etc. and say… Lord, please help me purge my heart and He does. So, beloved, does your heart need purging?

Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in Him! (Psalm 34:8 NLT)

Beloved, recently, I was listening to someone share a message that really convicted me. They said they broke down just reflecting on the goodness of the Lord in their live because they just couldn’t understand what they did to deserve it. They kept asking the Lord “what have I done to deserve this?” and then went on to stress that most times when the Lord blesses us, it’s not because of anything we’ve done but it’s always because the Lord is good. We may not deserve it but He decides to do good things to us because He is a good God.

Beloved, are you one that keeps telling the Lord “but I’ve done this and I’ve done that but you still haven’t blessed me? What else do you want from me?” Well, if you do so, then please stop it because it’s never about what you’ve done but about the goodness of the Lord. The Psalmist says that… the earth is full of the goodness of the Lord (Psalm 33:5 NKJV).

Also… the goodness of God leads you to repentance (Romans 2:4). The Bible tells us of a time Jesus filled Peter’s boat with fishes… When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.” For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with him. His partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed. Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!” And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus (Luke 5:8-11 NLT).

Why would Peter with his sinful self leave everything he had just caught to follow Jesus? It was because of the goodness of the Lord. We also see this with Jesus and Zacchaeus. Jesus looked up the tree were Zacchaeus was positioned and said… “Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.” Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy. But the people were displeased. “He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner,” they grumbled. Meanwhile, Zacchaeus stood before the Lord and said, “I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!” Jesus responded, “Salvation has come to this home today… (Luke 19:5-9 NLT).

Beloved, Zacchaeus tasted the goodness of the Lord that day.

‘Taste’ in our feature text is a call to ‘experience’ and David was saying that based on what I’ve experienced, I can truly say that the Lord is good.

Beloved, let’s always thank God for His goodness knowing that like David said… Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life… (Psalm 23:6 NLT).
