“Simon, Simon (Peter), listen! Satan has DEMANDED PERMISSION to sift [all of] you like grain; but I have prayed [especially] for you [Peter], that your faith [AND CONFIDENCE IN ME] may not fail…” (Luke 22:31-32 AMP).

Beloved, the All-knowing Jesus looked at Peter and knowing what was to come said, “I’ve prayed that after this trial, you will still have confidence in Me”. Isn’t that touching? Jesus prayed… don’t lose CONFIDENCE IN ME… because to be honest, many get angry and disappointed with God when we go through certain things. “But You could have stopped this? Why are You making me go through this? Why do I have to pay such a high price for this calling? I’m not sure about You anymore… or like the disciples said… We had hoped He was the Messiah who had come to rescue Israel (Luke 24:21 NLT).”

Hmmm… Every now and then, when the Lord wants to do something new, He looks down on earth and may have to bypass some people to find Mary, Jesus Mother who is highly favoured and would carry out His plan but would have to be okay with your wedding plans been disrupted, people looking at you strangely as the lying ‘Holy Spirit made me pregnant’ Baby mother and having to watch your Son suffer and be crucified. God may have to bypass some people to find Job, a double blessing reward candidate who would not curse Him and die when under pressure (Job 2:9-10). He may have to bypass some people to find Joseph, the next governor who would still maintain their integrity while facing trials and is able to discern and embrace God’s overall purpose so he can say… You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people (Genesis 50:20 NLT).

Beloved, to partner with God to carry out His will always come with great trials but are we like Peter that said I don’t know this Man? (John 18:15-27). This is too much for me, I’m going back to my fishing career (John 21:3) Or like Job that bowed down and worshiped Him (Job 1:20)?

What is your attitude like when faced with trials? I remember waking up one morning and saying, “Lord, no pleasantries today, let’s just go straight to the point. Just tell me what You want me to do and I’ll do it”. L‎OL… Please don’t judge just pray for me. I was clearly not a happy child that day but I always remember what He told me a few years back. He said “are you not still standing?” Hmmm… with everything I’ve been through, that’s a testimony and I often find myself thanking Him for making me pass through some things because I won’t be the person I am today.

Beloved, God will not give you more than you can bear (1 Corinthians 10:13). Jesus is praying for you not to lose CONFIDENCE IN HIM because there’s a purpose for it.

Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him… (Job 13:15 NKJV).

Beloved, here’s a statement made by Job when he was going through severe trials. Job was referring to the Lord when he said ‘HE’ but based on what we know about his story who was really behind his ordeal? God or the devil?

Have you ever found yourself in certain situations where you don’t know whether this is a ‘bind the devil’ situation or a ‘carry your cross’ situation?

A while ago, I remember a‎ young lady who was been interviewed say that “God afflicts me according to my purpose” and the pastor that was interviewing her was like… “Hold up! Hold up! Hold up! Can you please come again? What did you just say? Well, the devil is God’s devil’ she said and then she went on to talk about perspective – how we view things. Then she said “the devil doesn’t have all access pass to God’s children”. Hmmm!!!

Beloved, does the devil have all access pass to us? He didn’t with Job. He had to ask God for access. I’m also thinking of Peter. Jesus said… “Simon, Simon (Peter), listen! Satan has DEMANDED PERMISSION to sift [all of] you like grain; but I have prayed [especially] for you [Peter], that your faith [and confidence in Me] may not fail; and you, once you have turned back again [to Me], strengthen and support your brothers [in the faith].” (Luke 22:31-32 AMP).

So, I’m thinking if Satan has demanded permission, then he doesn’t have access but then this is the bit that disturbs me. Jesus said Simon… I have prayed that your faith will hold firm and that you will recover from your failure and become a source of strength for your brothers here (VOICE).

No Jesus! Wrong response! I was expecting You to say… “I told satan get lost, permission declined”. But this is exactly what happened with Job. Satan asked for permission to afflict Job and I like how the Voice Translation says the Lord told satan… I DELEGATE THIS TASK TO YOU. His possessions are now in your hand. One thing, though: you are not to lay a finger on the man himself. Job must not be touched (Job 1:12 VOICE).

Beloved, one thing that prompted this ‘what is God up to?’ devotional was to take the focus off satan and place it on God because whatever you focus on is magnified. The devil is always behind evil but the end result of Job’s trial was an intimate relationship with God (Job 42:5) while for Peter, Jesus said “use your experience to minister to others”.

SO, IS THIS GOD OR THE DEVIL? ‏I leave you to meditate on this… We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan (Romans 8:28 VOICE)… None of the rulers of this world [age] understood it. If they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory… (1 Corinthians 2:8 EXB).

Jacob said to Joseph, “God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me. He said to me, ‘I will make you fruitful, and I will multiply your descendants. I will make you a multitude of nations. And I will give this land of Canaan to your descendants after you as an everlasting possession.’ (Genesis 48:3-4 NLT)

The above conversation took place between Jacob and Joseph towards the end of his life where he is telling his son about the covenant promise the Lord made to their family but because life happened to Jacob, it took this long for Him to remember this promise and I bet it’s only now he starts to sees things differently. This was a man that had a personal encounter with the Lord where He revealed the promise but the moment Jacob though his son was dead, he decided it was all over, failing to realise that it didn’t matter what the situation looked like, all things were working out all along for his good (Romans 8:28).

Despite the Lord’s promise, Jacob focused on problems and so decided to live a depressed life. When He thought Joseph was dead… His family all tried to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. “I will go to my grave mourning for my son,” he would say, and then he would weep (Genesis 37:35 NLT). Later, he told Pharaoh… “I have lived 130 long, hard years, and I am not nearly as old as many of my ancestors.” (Genesis 47:9 TLB)

Jacob settled for a miserable life all because he believed in the situation presented before Him rather than the Lord’s promises. When he was eventually reunited with Joseph… Jacob said to Joseph, “I never thought I would see your face again, but now God has let me see your children, too!” (Genesis 48:11 NLT).

I read something interesting that Jacob told Joseph as he blessed Joseph’s sons. He said… THE GOD WHO HAS BEEN MY SHEPHERD [leading and caring for me] all my life to this day… bless the boys; (Genesis 48:15-16 AMP).

Really, Jacob? THE GOD WHO HAS BEEN MY SHEPHERD? Hmmm… Psalm 23 comes to mind… The Lord is my shepherd… He leads me… He guides me… Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me (Psalm 23:1-4 NIV).

So, Jacob, if the Lord is really your Shepherd,‎ why not just trust His leading… His comfort? Because even when He takes you through the darkest valley, it still leads to where He’s taking you.

Beloved, many of us can recite Psalm 23 but let’s not be like Jacob living it till the last minute to find peace. The Lord is either your Shepherd or He isn’t. If He is, then TRUST THE PATH HE LEADS YOU THROUGH and find peace and rest for your soul.

Listen closely. Whenever you are looking after a Hebrew woman who is in labor and ready to deliver, if she gives birth to a son, then kill the baby. If it is a daughter, then allow her to live. BUT THE MIDWIVES RESPECTED GOD MORE THAN THEY FEARED PHARAOH, so they did not carry out the Egyptian king’s command. Instead, they let all the boys live (Exodus 1:16-17 VOICE).

Beloved, there are times when we have to stop and probe ourselves. I have previously called this a spiritual check-up where we do like King David did and say… SEARCH ME [THOROUGHLY], O GOD, AND KNOW MY HEART; Test me and know my anxious thoughts; And see if there is any wicked or hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way (Psalm 139:23-24 AMP).

SEARCH ME [THOROUGHLY], O GOD, AND KNOW MY HEART… So reading what the midwives did in our feature text, the heart searching question that immediately comes to mind is; Who do you respect more?

THE MIDWIVES RESPECTED GOD MORE THAN THEY FEARED PHARAOH and because they respected God more, He gave them the wisdom to respond to Pharaoh… “Why have you disobeyed my orders and allowed the boys to live?” “Because unlike Egyptian women, Hebrew women are hearty and energetic, and they give birth before the midwife arrives to help (Exodus 1:18-29 VOICE). God gave them wisdom to answer Pharaoh but not just that… God was good [showed favor] to the nurses [midwives]… (Exodus 1:20 EXB).

On various occasions, we also see this with Jesus’ Apostles. Peter and John told the judges… You are the judges here, so we’ll leave it up to you to judge whether it is right in the sight of God to obey your commands or God’s (Acts 4:19 VOICE)… If we have to choose between obedience to God and obedience to any human authority, then we must obey God (Acts 5:29 VOICE). Apostle Paul also said‎… Am I now trying to win the favor and approval of men, or of God? Or am I seeking to please someone? If I were still trying to be popular with men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ (Galatians 1:10 AMP).

Beloved… God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV). However, because of fear, many of us compromise and as a result, we lose our power by the day.

As Jesus was preparing His disciples to face the world, He said, when you are brought before judges… don’t worry about how to respond or what to say. God will give you the right words at the right time (Matthew 10:19 NLT). Isn’t it time we choose to respect the Lord at all times relying on the Holy Spirit to give the wisdom to say the right words at the right time?

27. January 2016 · Comments Off on GOD’S PERSISTENT LOVE‏‏‏ · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Love, Relationship

For the king puts his trust in the Eternal, so he will not be shaken because of the PERSISTENT love of the Most High God (Psalm 21:7 VOICE)

Beloved, reading this, I got hooked on the word ‘PERSISTENT’. Some other translations say ‘STEADFAST’ which means staying the same for a long time and not changing quickly or unexpectedly… but PERSISTENT?? What does PERSISTENT mean? One definition says ‘continuing to do something or to try to do something even though it is difficult or other people want you to stop’.

So let me set the scene; Someone comes along and confesses his love for you but you’re like don’t even dare… I’m not feeling you at all but regardless of what you do; walk off with your friends, humiliate him in public, he still comes around. The doorbell rings and maybe you’re already expecting someone else and in excitement, you run to the door only to find that it’s him standing there and you’re like… oh it’s you. Haven’t you heard that I don’t want you. Please go and leave me alone. You use his flowers to beat him across the face, tear his card in front of him, slam the door in his face and just when you think that should do the trick, the next morning, he’s waiting for you at your bus stop. “Are you stalking me? What am I to do with you? Are you deaf? Don’t you have shame? But he just says “sorry, but I can’t help how I feel about you”. LOL

That’s persistent love… Hmmm… have you done that to anyone or been on the receiving end?

For such a person, if they’ve got any dignity, they may eventually step away and the love may eventually fade away with time or if they find someone else but for some, you may bump into them many years later only to hear them say… “I never stopped loving you, you know”.

Hmmm… That’s our God. God doesn’t stop loving you because God Himself is love (1 John 4:8) and to stop is to stop being God. Rather… the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases… they are new every morning… (Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV). The VOICE says… How enduring is God’s loyal love; the Eternal has inexhaustible compassion…

So who can separate us? What can come between us and the love of God’s Anointed? Can troubles, hardships, persecution, hunger, poverty, danger, or even death? The answer is, absolutely nothing… I have every confidence that nothing—not death, life, heavenly messengers, dark spirits, the present, the future, spiritual powers, height, depth, nor any created thing—can come between us and the love of God revealed in the Anointed, Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:35-39 VOICE).

Perhaps someone needs to hear this today. Because of His persistent, steadfast love for you, you can’t be shaken. He continues to chase after you because He can’t help Himself. He will meet you every morning at your bus stop so why don’t you just accept and trust in His Love for you?

But the harder the slave drivers pushed the Israelites, the more rapidly they had children and spread throughout the land…‎ (Exodus 1:12 VOICE)

There’s this story in the Bible that gets me so excited every time I read it. It’s when one Pharisee tried to talk sense into his fellow colleagues who were deliberating on what to do to the Apostles… He said to his colleagues… “take care what you are planning to do to these men! Some time ago there was that fellow Theudas, who pretended to be someone great… but he was killed, and all his followers went their various ways. The whole movement came to nothing. After him… there was Judas of Galilee. He got people to follow him, but he was killed, too, and all his followers were scattered. “So my advice is, leave these men alone. Let them go. If they are planning and doing these things merely on their own, it will soon be overthrown. But if it is from God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You may even find yourselves fighting against God!” ‎(Act 5:35-39 NLT)‎.

This always makes me want to start break dancing to MC Hammer’s debut single ‘You can’t touch this!’

Who can stop God? There are some intense opposition that you may face that the ONLY assurance you have of surviving is that the Lord’s hand is upon you. The Israelites where up against very strong opposition but regardless of what they faced, they kept growing because God’s hand was upon them.

Beloved, no devil in hell can stop you when the Lord is on your side. However‎, the only person that can stop anything is you and that’s if you decide to give in to the opposition and say this is just too hard; I can’t take it anymore but I remember watching someone hold two balls in his hands; one had air in it while the other was deflated. Both balls were thrown up in the air but only the one with air in it was able to bounce back and then he said… If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small (Proverbs 24:10 AMP). Like this deflated ball, there’s nothing inside of you.

Beloved… from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force (Matthew 11:12 NKJV). This isn’t for the weak. Yes, we are in a battle but this is a battle that has already been won by our Lord, Jesus Christ so what the enemy is actually fighting is for your faith. That’s why after everything Apostle Paul faced, he was able to say… I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7 NKJV).

Beloved, regardless of the intensity of your opposition, before you throw in the towel, just answer this question; can anyone stop God? All you have to do is stand firm in your place (Ephesians 6:13-18).

25. January 2016 · Comments Off on NO DANCING BACK AND FORTH‏ · Categories: Choices, Courage, Faith, Fear, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Trusting God

Immediately Jesus reached for Peter and caught him. O you of little faith. WHY DID YOU DOUBT AND DANCE BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN FOLLOWING ME AND HEEDING FEAR? (Matthew 14:31 VOICE)

Beloved, does this sound like you right now? Isn’t it interesting that regardless of all the word of God we hear that should increase our faith (Romans 10:17), these two relentless enemies called ‘DOUBT’ and ‘FEAR’ somehow finds a way of creeping up into our minds? And unfortunately, if we heed to them, they end up crippling our walk of faith.

I like how the Voice translation expounds on Matthew 14:31… WHY DID YOU DOUBT AND DANCE BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN FOLLOWING ME AND HEEDING FEAR…

I love the picture of DANCING BACK AND FORTH. It means once you’ve made the decision to do something by faith, then do it and just keep focusing on moving forward only. In the midst of uncertainty, based on what He saw Jesus do, Peter was courageous enough to make a decision to do what no one else had done before and he backed that decision by taking the first few steps… Peter stepped out of the boat onto the water and began walking toward Jesus but when he remembered how strong the wind was, his courage caught in his throat and he began to sink (Matthew 14:29-30 VOICE).

I can just imagine the thoughts going through Peter’s mind. “Is it really Jesus that instructed me to do this? Then, why’s the wind still strong?”

But Peter, remember the first thing you did was to confirm with Jesus and I can just picture Jesus saying “Peter, you asked if it was Me and I told you yes, it was Me… “Have courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.” Peter said to Him, “Lord, if it is You, order me to come to You on the water.” SO HE SAID, “COME…” (Matthew 14:27-29 NET).

Beloved, the fact that the storm is still raging, doesn’t mean it isn’t Jesus that called you. Secondly, walking on water isn’t something that’s been done before so don’t be surprised that the people sitting inside the boat that see you try to do what isn’t familiar to them would try to come up with all sorts of reasoning and at times, listening to reason can cause you to doubt your decision and them down you go.

Peter made a decision that was reliant on him focusing and depending absolutely on Jesus alone and that’s what was meant to keep him from sinking. That’s why we are told to fix our eyes on Jesus… looking away from all that will distract us and focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith… (Hebrews 12:2 AMP)

Beloved, this is not the time to DANCE BACK AND FORTH‏ giving into ‘DOUBT’ and ‘FEAR’. Regardless of the storm, just trust in Him who has called you and keep walking…

Timothy, my child, I am giving you a command… that agrees with the prophecies that were given about you in the past. I TELL YOU THIS SO THAT BY FOLLOWING [OR BY RECALLING] THEM YOU CAN FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT (1 Timothy 1:18 EXB).

Beloved, have you got any prophecies spoken over your life? This is a beautiful Scripture that gives us something to always look forward to when it seems like there’s no way out of some of the situations we sometimes find ourselves in.

Some time ago, I was telling a friend that I found a new boost of faith based on the fact that I started to go over the prophecies that I received some years back. My exact words were… “Didn’t my prophecy say that the Lord has heard my prayer for so and so… and that He’s on the case? That was in 2011 even before I ever knew I would be in this situation so why should I think that He has abandoned me now?”

The funny thing about the prophecy I was referring to was that it sounded so strange to me then and I was like… “what are you talking about?” but then, didn’t the Lord say… I will answer them before they even call to Me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers! (Isaiah 65:24 NLT)?

The beauty of this was that these prophecies were recorded and I remember it came up in a conversation where I was telling this same friends that I wasn’t sure were the CD was but it was so amazing that in a few days, I woke up to see a pile of CD’s that had fallen on the floor and in the process of putting them back, I found my CD. Hmmm… I was so amazed but it was like the Lord was saying… “girl, you’re going to be needing this” and that’s how I started listening to my prophecies over and over again.

The Amplified Bible says… inspired and aided by them you may fight the good fight…

Beloved, the Lord always sends prophecies ahead of us so that we can have something to hold on to it when we are facing what seems like dead situations and most times what follows after a prophecy has been released is trouble. The enemy would go after that prophecy just to try and abort it and it may get to the point where your situation looks like the exact opposite of what was prophesied but that’s not the time to give up. Rather, it’s the time to bring out your prophecy and start to declare it over your life… “let it be to me according to Your word (Luke 1:38)”. It’s a very good weapon for fighting the good fight of faith that’s sure to see you through to victory.

Then Joseph told his brothers to go. As they were leaving, he said to them, “DON’T QUARREL ON THE WAY HOME.” (Genesis 45:24 EXB).

The above verse is an extract from Joseph’s story after he reveals himself to his brothers. He sends them to get their father and “DON’T QUARREL ON THE WAY HOME” was his parting advice to them. I read this and thought to myself; that’s the heart of someone that’s been transformed by his process.

Beloved, when we get down to the nitty-gritty of our Christian journey; the heart of the matter, it’s not so much about our purpose, destinies, prosperity and everything else that we get so carried away with. Our ultimate goal is to be transformed into the image of Christ… For those whom He foreknew [of whom He was aware and loved beforehand], He also destined from the beginning [foreordaining them] TO BE MOLDED INTO THE IMAGE OF HIS SON [and share inwardly His likeness]… (Romans 8:29 AMPC).

As I was reading about Joseph, I thought to myself… this is a sure sign of spiritual growth. Yes, he was an excellent interpreter of dreams, however, it’s not about your gifts but about your virtues; what’s on the inside of you and like Jesus says… the heart overflows in the words a person speaks; your words reveal what’s within your heart (Luke 6:45 VOICE).

About Joseph, the Message Translation says… As they left he told them, “Take it easy on the journey; try to get along with each other.”‎

“Don’t quarrel, ‎make peace, forgive, let go…” are the kind of words that flow from a transformed heart and that’s probably why Joseph was able to reach the heights that he reached and I’m beginning to understand why some people reach such heights with the Lord while others just keep going round and round the same mountain.

The Psalmist said… Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the Lord tested Joseph’s character (Psalm 105:19 NLT). The VOICE Translation says… His word tested Joseph and proved him worthy.

‎Last week someone asked me this question; “how can the Lord still use me after knowing I just shouted at some airport officials?” I replied back saying “don’t worry, from experience, by the time He’s through working on your character, you wouldn’t recognise yourself”.

The Lord says… I have made you pure [refined you], but not by fire, as silver is made pure. I have purified you by giving you troubles [in the furnace of affliction/suffering] (Isaiah 48:10 EXB).

Joseph’s life gives us a clear picture of someone that was refined by fire but he came our better and not bitter. He came out a peacemaker… full of forgiveness and we get to see a glimpse of the image Christ reflected through him.

Beloved, we too… can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord. And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like Him (2 Corinthians 3:18 TLB).

So the Eternal God put him into a deep sleep, removed a rib from his side, and closed the flesh around the opening. HE FORMED A WOMAN from the rib taken out of the man AND PRESENTED HER TO HIM… AT LAST, A SUITABLE COMPANION, A PERFECT PARTNER. Bone from my bones. Flesh from my flesh. I will call this one “woman” as an eternal reminder that she was taken out of man (Genesis 2:21-23 VOICE).

AT LAST, A SUITABLE COMPANION, A PERFECT PARTNER… Reading this, I couldn’t help but feel Adam’s sigh of relief. After searching through all the animals, he found her! LOL… but I’m not just trying to be funny, the Bible says… out of the same ground the man was made from, the Eternal God sculpted every sort of animal and every kind of bird that flies up in the sky. Then He brought them to the man and gave him the authority to name each creature as he saw fit: whatever he decided to call it, that became its name. Thus the man chose names for domesticated animals, birds, and wild beasts. But none of these creatures was a right and proper partner for Adam (Genesis 2:19-20 VOICE).

However,… At LAST, A SUITABLE COMPANION, A PERFECT PARTNER… As I read this, I couldn’t help but say this prayer for all the single people out there truly searching for an ideal partner… May your search be over‏ in 2016. May this be your testimony… AT LAST, A SUITABLE COMPANION, A PERFECT PARTNER. You won’t call her beast, dog… but you will call her “my woman”.

HE FORMED A WOMAN… AND PRESENTED HER TO HIM… Single women, do your best to yield to the forming. That SUITABLE COMPANION, A PERFECT PARTNER is somewhere out there waiting for you and the Lord is preparing you for Him because He knows exactly how to mould you so you fit that SUITABLE COMPANION, A PERFECT PARTNER that’s just for you.

And as for you single men, what are you focusing on? Interestingly, I was reading about when Isaac was about to get married… One evening when he went out to the field to think [meditate; reflect; or walk], he looked up [raised his eyes] and saw camels coming. Rebekah also looked [raised her eyes] and saw Isaac… (Genesis 24:63-65 EXB).

Hmmm… Isaac looked up and saw camels while Rebekah looked up and saw Isaac. Men are usually known to chase after a livelihood before settling down; some to the point that it becomes an excuse for not settling but for Adam to find a suitable wife, he was made to rest. It is my prayer that you find rest in the Lord while He perfects all that concerns you… MAY YOUR SEARCH BE OVER‏…

And if already married and you are experiencing anything short of the Lord’s original plan for marriage Genesis 2:24), I pray for total restoration of your unity, you joy, your peace… MAY YOUR SEARCH BE OVER‏…
