And Jacob… lighted upon a CERTAIN place, and TARRIED THERE ALL NIGHT… and he took of the STONES OF THAT PLACE, AND PUT THEM FOR HIS PILLOWS, and lay down in that place to sleep (Genesis 28:10-11 KJV).

As we travel our Christian journey, there definitely comes a time when we get to that PLACE of uncertainty which is so uncomfortable that if not careful, we want to avoid it. This was the PLACE Jacob found himself but he TARRIED THERE ALL NIGHT and it paid off because it was a defining moment for him.

He used STONES AS PILLOWS!!! Can you imagine how uncomfortable that must have been? How hard it must have been to fall asleep? The tossing and turning? Can you imagine the headache? But as uncomfortable as it was, that was the place God chose to reveal Himself to Jacob and hand down a blessing for him and his generations to come… As he slept, he dreamed of a stairway that reached from the earth up to heaven. And he saw the angels of God going up and down the stairway. At the top of the stairway stood the Lord, and he said, “I AM THE LORD, THE GOD OF YOUR GRANDFATHER ABRAHAM, AND THE GOD OF YOUR FATHER, ISAAC. THE GROUND YOU ARE LYING ON BELONGS TO YOU. I AM GIVING IT TO YOU AND YOUR DESCENDANTS… What’s more, I am with you, and I will protect you wherever you go… Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “SURELY THE LORD IS IN THIS PLACE, AND I WASN’T EVEN AWARE OF IT!” (Genesis 28:12-16 NLT)

Hmmm… Jacob arrived at a CERTAIN place but he was unaware of its significance. The Lord would sometimes bring us out of our comfort zones to a CERTAIN place but because it’s not a comfortable place, we are ignorant and not sure of anything anymore. That place of uncertainty is where we question if God is with us but take it from a man who knows… you are bound to find God there if you TARRY… “SURELY THE LORD IS IN THIS PLACE”, Jacob said.

From then on, his relationship with God took a new dimension… The next morning Jacob got up very early. He took the stone he had rested his head against, and he set it upright as a memorial pillar. Then he poured olive oil over it… Then Jacob made this vow: “If God will indeed be with me and protect me on this journey, and if he will provide me with food and clothing, and if I return safely to my father’s home, then the Lord will CERTAINLY be my God. And this memorial pillar I have set up will become a place for worshiping God…” (Genesis 28:18-22 NLT).

That CERTAIN place of UNCERTAINTY where God personally reveals Himself to you becomes a significant worship experience and you find yourself building a personal altar for you and the Lord. This is our spot from now on… a place where I encountered You.

Are you at a crossroads?…TARRY FOR GOD IS IN THAT UNCOMFORTABLE PLACE. You will soon find out that it’s a defining moment that will give you direction for the next phase of your journey.

God bless you

30. October 2015 · Comments Off on THE LORD WILL PERFORM HIS WORD‏ CONCERNING YOU‏‏ · Categories: Faith, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Patience, Perseverance, Promise, Testimony, Thanks giving, Trusting God

Then said the Lord to me, You have seen well, for I am alert and active, watching over My word to perform it (Jeremiah 1:11-12 AMP).

Yesterday, using the case of the Shunammite woman, I wrote about not giving up and after posting on Facebook, as I was about logging off, I saw some pictures that someone posted 2 days ago with a message that said “Friends rejoice with me for the Lord has broken the yoke of barrenness in my life after 21 years”.‎

Hmmm… 21 years! She almost reached Abraham and Sarah’s record who waited for 25 years and we often say that was in Bible country but this one happened in our time. I read it and it brought me to tears and I knew the Lord was confirming my message for someone so I had to share in my Facebook group.

Now, I’ve never seen this woman before so I wanted to know who her husband was because being someone that my ex-husband left because I couldn’t have a child with him after 5 years, I was curious to see the kind of man that would wait with a woman for 21 years. So, instead of logging off like I was supposed to, I started searching through her pictures (LOL, you would be surprised at some of the things I get up to sometimes) ‎and I know that you aren’t meant to judge based on what you see on Facebook alone but the pictures I saw showed a happy couple.

‎I couldn’t help but pray for him as I browsed through their pictures and to my amazement I actually found one picture posted on 25 December 2014 where his hands were wrapped around her and a man responded to the picture by saying “Thank you… for the endurance and perseverance, God will continue to bless you. Amen”.

Hmmm… I can only imagine that he never imagined that in less than a year’s time, they would be holding their own baby.

‘Endurance and perseverance’ are the key words. When the Lord makes a promise that for example… “None shall be barren in your land (Exodus 23:26)”or that “about this time next year you shall embrace a son (2 Kings 4:16)”, He doesn’t just say it for the fun of it. He doesn’t just sit back and relax either. The Lord told the Prophet Jeremiah…‎ I am alert and active, watching over My word to perform it and thank God that we can rely on His faithfulness regardless of us… If we are faithless [do not believe and are untrue to Him], He remains true (faithful to His Word and His righteous character), for He cannot deny Himself (2 Timothy 2:13 AMP).

Halleluyah… “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? (Numbers 23:19 NKJV)

Many of us are afraid to dream again because it hurts to hope for something year after year with no results. You have exercised all the faith in you but nothing… only the same old promises… Promises! Promises! Promises!

The doorbell rings, the phone rings, the postman brings letters for the day. You think maybe this could be it but then you are disappointed because it’s not what you were expecting. After a while, you’re like “Lord, You know what, I don’t need it anymore. It’s easier to let this dream die than to keep hoping”. So you now start making excuses why you shouldn’t have what you’ve been hoping for. “Perhaps I didn’t hear God clearly or perhaps it’s not God’s will or I’m better off without it”. Slowly you start to find contentment in living without the fulfilment of your dream.

Oh but you’re not alone. The rich Shunammite woman has been there…

Elisha said to Gehazi, “Tell her, ‘We appreciate the kind concern you have shown us. What can we do for you? Can we put in a good word for you to the king or to the commander of the army?’” “No,” she replied, “my family takes good care of me.” (2 Kings 4:8-13 NLT)

The Message translation says… She replied, “Nothing. I’m secure and satisfied in my family.”

I can just imagine her thinking; “No thanks! I don’t want anything from you or the king. The one thing I desired more than anything on this earth, the one thing I wished above all that God could ever do for me is now too late”. How sad? But then when God says it’s not over, then it’s not over…

Later Elisha asked Gehazi, “What can we do for her?” Gehazi replied, “SHE DOESN’T HAVE A SON, AND HER HUSBAND IS AN OLD MAN.” “Call her back again,” Elisha told him. When the woman returned, Elisha said to her…“Next year at this time you will be holding a son in your arms!” “No, my lord!” she cried. “O MAN OF GOD, don’t deceive me and get my hopes up like that.” (2 Kings 4:8-14 NLT)

LOL… “Oh no you didn’t. Don’t even go there…Please! Please! It’s taken a lot of pain to bury that one so don’t dig it up. Please!

The Message translation says …“don’t PLAY GAMES with me, teasing me with such FANTASIES!” NKJV says… MAN OF GOD, do not lie to your maidservant!”

Hmmm… MAN OF GOD, why the lies? Haven’t you seen how old my husband is? Why have you come to torment me? Didn’t I tell you I don’t need anything?… But SURE ENOUGH, the woman soon became pregnant. And AT THAT TIME THE FOLLOWING YEAR SHE HAD A SON, JUST AS ELISHA HAD SAID (Kings 4:8-17 NLT).

Has your dream become a fantasy? Do you see it as teasing? Have you taken it off your prayer list? Elisha told him, “Call her back again”. God is calling you back again. He isn’t a liar. HE CAN NEVER LIE.

God bless you

28. October 2015 · Comments Off on AFTER DOING ALL TO STAND, STAND FIRMLY IN YOUR PLACE‏ · Categories: Faith, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Peace, Perseverance, Salvation, Truth

Therefore put on GOD’S COMPLETE ARMOR, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place] (Ephesians 6.13 AMP).

Here’s what someone shared with me that I thought was worth sharing. They said;

“I met a lizard floating in an abandoned bucket that was half full of water. I do not know the circumstances that led to the lizard falling into the bucket of water, but I decided to check how long it would take it to jump out of the bucket or die inside it (Apologies to animal right activists). I went back to check the lizard after two days, and it was still alive and kicking inside the bucket! I discovered that it managed to stay alive by keeping its head above the water level, and thus getting enough oxygen to keep it alive. I then thought, well, it won’t be able to sustain that for much longer, since it cannot feed thus it would use up all its energy staying afloat and would finally get worn out and sink to the bottom of the bucket.

Alas, how wrong I was! A week later, the lizard was still alive in the bucket half filled with water. Two weeks, three weeks later and it was still there struggling to stay alive with its head out of water.

At the end of four weeks, I released the lizard from its prison by pouring the water away, and it scampered away as fast as its feet could carry it. It was just as if it had never been imprisoned for four weeks! The only thing I noticed was that its colour had changed to a brownish tinge!

An inner voice then told me that this is what happens when we are in difficult situations, we need to stay afloat because at the end of the day, it is only God that can set us free from that problem or situation. No matter how impossible it may seem, God can turn the situation around. All we need to do is to take in the “breath of God” which is the Holy word. Once we feed on it and make it the only thing we yearn after, in His own time, all will be well”.

Hmmm…. As I reflected on this powerful illustration, our feature verse came to mind. Paul advises us to stand firm in hard times using GOD’S COMPLETE ARMOR which includes His Holy Word.

He said…‎ Stand your ground, putting on the belt of TRUTH and the body armor of GOD’S RIGHTEOUSNESS. For shoes, put on the PEACE that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the SHIELD OF FAITH to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on SALVATION as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the WORD OF GOD. PRAY in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion… (Ephesians 6:14-18 NLT).

As you use all these weapons, you will find that like our lizard friend, you will be standing firm.‎

God bless you

… Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you THINK… (Romans 12:2 NLT)

The point I’ve been trying to make since I started this series is that WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE (Matthew 19:26). However, the way we think limits what He can do in our lives… for as he thinks in his heart, so is he… (Proverbs 23:7).

One final reminder – Even death is no limit for God. The world says death is the end of the matter but these people would beg to differ:

With Jairus’s daughter, they said don’t bother Him anymore but ”Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” (Mark 5:35-43)

With Lazarus, Mary said if only you had been here my brother won’t have died but to Jesus, Lazarus was asleep. He said… Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep (John 11:11-44) and like I heard someone say recently, what Mary should have said was “ YOU ARE HERE BECAUSE MY BROTHER DIED”. Your crisis is always an invitation for Jesus to show up.

Now, you may say “well that’s Jesus” but Elijah raised the widows son (1 KINGS 17:17-24); Elisha raised the son of the Shunammite woman (2 kings 4:32-36); Peter raised Tabitha (ACTS 9:36-42); and Paul raised the young man that fell to the ground from the third floor (ACTS 20:7-12).

Your situation may not be as dead as you think. You should learn to think like Abraham who… reasoned that if Isaac died, GOD WAS ABLE to bring him back to life again. And in a sense, Abraham did receive his son back from the dead (Hebrews 11:19).

Some more crazy Bible stories;

Peter for a moment walked on water until he began to reason like the world (Matthew 14:28-31)

Elijah who was just as human as we are controlled raining season (James 5:17-18). He also called down fire from heaven to consume the sacrifice on a very, very wet altar (1 Kings 18:25-39).

Beloved, you may say there’s a big sea in front of me, I can’t cross it. Even if I want to, there’s no boat but Moses says; “HELLO! We didn’t have boats either. Only a miracle working God and a rod (Exodus 14:21).

The world says fire burns but Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego beg to differ. King Nebuchadnezzar ordered the furnace heated 7 times hotter than usual. He also ordered that they should be tied up but they came out without even smelling of smoke (Daniel 3).

The Lord says… listen to the Lord who created you… the One who formed you… Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you (Isaiah 43:1-2 NLT).

… Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you THINK… (Romans 12:2 NLT)

Some more people in the Bible that weren’t limited by the boundaries of how this world works …

David wasn’t limited by size. He recognized that he had a big God who is able. He told Goliath… “You come at me with sword and spear and battle-ax. I come at you in the name of God-of-the-Angel-Armies… This very day God is handing you over to me… and everyone gathered here will learn that God doesn’t save by means of sword or spear. The battle belongs to God—he’s handing you to us on a platter!” (1 Samuel 17:45-47 MSG)

On the other hand, the 10 spies were intimidated by the size of the giants they saw and couldn’t possess their promise. They said…“We can’t go up against them! They are stronger than we are!”… Next to them we felt like grasshoppers, and that’s what they thought, too!” (Numbers 13:31-33 NLT)

Jeremiah, when called by God said… “I can’t speak for you! I’m too young!” The Lord replied, “Don’t say, ‘I’m too young,’ for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you. And don’t be afraid of the people, for I will be with you and will protect you. I, the Lord, have spoken!” (Jeremiah 1:6-8 NLT)

Moses also wanted to place limits on himself but God didn’t let him… Moses pleaded with the Lord, “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.” Then the Lord asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? IS IT NOT I, THE LORD? (Exodus 4:10-11 NLT)

And then there was Jesus who wasn’t limited by money in the bank. He told Peter to go and catch a fish, take money out of its mouth and go and pay the tax collector (Matthew 17:24-27). Also, Jesus was able to feed a multitude of 5000 men with 5 loafs and 2 fishes. His disciples came to him with a problem but Jesus wanted to transform their minds so… Jesus said, “You feed them.” “With what?” they asked. “We’d have to work for months to earn enough money to buy food for all these people!” (Mark 6:37 NLT). Their thinking already limited them but Jesus said only 5 loafs and 2 fishes will do.

Also, when they ran out of wine at the wedding in Canaan, if it were us today, we would be running around in confusion; “How much have you got on you? Which shop is nearby?” But what did Jesus say? He said we don’t need all that, just bring me water (John 2: 1-11).

I hope your mind is being renewed already? May the Lord help us TAKE OFF THE LIMITS because with God all things are possible.

God bless you

… Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you THINK… (Romans 12:2 NLT)

The Bible is full people that were not limited by the boundaries of how this world works.

Caleb was one of such people that recognised his strength came from God. He said… “Now, as you can see, the Lord has kept me alive and well as He promised for all these forty-five years since Moses made this promise… Today I am eighty-five years old. I am as strong now as I was when Moses sent me on that journey, and I can still travel and fight as well as I could then. So give me the hill country that the Lord promised me… As scouts we found the descendants of Anak living there… but if the Lord is with me, I will drive them out of the land, just as the Lord said.” (Joshua 14:10-12 NLT)

Also, Abraham…not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb (Romans 4:19 NKJV).

Mary, the mother of Jesus received a word beyond human reasoning that said… And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus…” Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you… Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.” Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her (Luke 1:31-38 NKJV).

When the angel said, “you will have a son”, her initial response was “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” For a minute she was thinking like the world but as Romans 12:2 says…let God transform the way you think, when the angel said, this cannot be achieved by man but by the Holy Spirit and also mentioned Elizabeth’s miracle, she said “Let it be according to your Word” not according to the FACTS.

What is it that we want that God can’t and hasn’t done before?

He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength… Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:29-31 NKJV). Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green (Psalm 92:14 NLT)

It’s time to TAKE OFF THE LIMITS … I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13 NKJV)

God bless you

Don’t copy the behaviour and customs of this world but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you THINK. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect (Romans 12:2 NLT).

I love what the above verse tells us because we all need a paradigm shift in the way we think. We are not of this world (John 17:16) so we shouldn’t think like the world.

There are some laid out facts that the patterns of this world has taught us and then there’s the TRUTH. The world says you’ve got to be of a certain age to have children or to achieve your dreams, then there is the truth that Sarah was past child bearing age when she conceived. God wants us to distinguish ‘facts’ from the ‘truth’… For nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37).

Unfortunately, we are limited by how we think… For as he thinks in his heart, so is he… (Proverbs 23:7 NKJV). To receive the great things God has for us, we must try to think like our Father who says… “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts… and My ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so My ways are higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9 NLT).

Know that it is God that makes things happen so relax and just… trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take (Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT). We don’t have to figure out everything. Just believe that when the time comes, Jesus will show you which fish’s mouth to get the money from. When we define how we think God should work, we focus all our efforts in that direction but ‘He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us’. (Ephesians 3:20).

WHAT POWER ARE WE TALKING ABOUT? It is… the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead…’ (Ephesians 1:19-20 NLT) and if you truly belong to Christ, you have the same power in you…The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you… (Romans 8:11 NLT)

We are imprisoned by the limits we’ve set for ourselves through how the world says we should think or how our past experiences or family history has defined us. Let’s release our thinking from jail. As far as we are confined to thinking within the boundaries of how this world works, we restrict God to work within those boundaries but when we remove the boundaries, we allow God to do what only He can do. We must realise that the God of the Bible is the same God of today (Malachi 3:6, Hebrews 13:8, Revelation 1:8)

TAKE OFF THE LIMITS…is it your age, strength, ability…?

God bless you

Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, “IF ONLY I MAY TOUCH HIS CLOTHES, I SHALL BE MADE WELL.” Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction (Mark 5:25-29 NKJV).

Are there things that you’ve desired to do for some time now but you are so afraid? Are you thinking of all the consequences? What would people say? Would they frown? Would they tell me off? Would I get into trouble? Would I succeed? Would people laugh at me? Would I make things worse? Do you know you could be one bold step away from your breakthrough? If the Lord has impressed something in your spirit, please go ahead and do it. The woman with the issue of blood heard about Jesus and against all odds was determined to receive her healing.

In her condition, touching anyone would make them unclean (Leviticus 15:25-28) but then she must have said, “that’s no problem, ‘IF ONLY I MAY TOUCH the hem or border of His garment, hopefully that shouldn’t count as touching Him. But then what can they do to me that’s worse than my current condition?” Rather than give up… SHE KEPT SAYING, “IF ONLY I MAY TOUCH HIS CLOTHES, I SHALL BE MADE WELL.

I can only imagine that when a voice reminded her that she was unclean, she kept saying, ‘IF ONLY I MAY TOUCH…’

She took that bold step and received her healing… And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him… said, “Who touched My clothes?”… And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. But the woman, FEARING AND TREMBLING, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.” (Mark 5:32-34 NKJV)

BUT THE WOMAN, FEARING AND TREMBLING… She must have thought oops… I’m in trouble…Please don’t punish me… this is why I touched you… please don’t let them take me away… pleasssssse. I’m sure she was expecting the worst but then Jesus said…“ DAUGHTER, YOUR FAITH HAS MADE YOU WELL…

If only she had allowed fear stop her, her story wouldn’t be in the Bible today.

DON’T LET FEAR STOP YOU FROM TAKING THAT BOLD STEP… For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control (2 Timothy 1:5-7 AMP).

What is your “IF ONLY I MAY”?

God bless you

Then Moses lifted his hand and hit the rock twice with his stick [HE WAS SUPPOSED TO SPEAK TO IT]. Water began pouring out, and the people and their animals drank it. But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not believe [trust] me, and because you did not honor me as holy [show my holiness] before the people, you will not lead them into the land I will give them.” (Numbers 20:11-12 EXB)

Do you know that one of the things that keeps people stuck is to keep doing things in a particular way just because that’s what they are used to? However, you will always miss what the Lord wants to do when you go with your experience rather than divine revelation. In our feature text, Moses goes with what he knows (Exodus 17:6) rather than‎ what he’s told that’s why he hit the rock instead of speaking to it.

Just because it worked for you before doesn’t mean it would work this time around. Just because you were right before doesn’t mean you are right this time.

One thing I noticed about King David was that he would always ask the Lord; Lord should I?

Then the Philistines went and made a raid on the Valley of Rephaim. And DAVID INQUIRED OF GOD, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” The Lord said to him, “Go up, for I will deliver them into your hand.” (1 Chronicles 14:9-10 NKJV)

And then on another occasion… the Philistines once again made a raid on the valley. Therefore DAVID INQUIRED AGAIN OF GOD, and God said to him, “You shall not go up after them; circle around them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees. And it shall be, when you hear a sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall go out to battle, for God has gone out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.” (1 Chronicles 14:13-16 (NKJV)

You see that David made no assumptions. He didn’t go with his past experience. He didn’t say, well after all, I’ve defeated this people before so I will go ahead and fight like before. If he had done that he would have missed the Lord’s new strategy.

How many opportunities have you missed because you think you know it all? Could the fact that you are too invested in your opinion be the ‎reason why you are still where you are today?

Today, the Lord’s says… “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?… (Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV). I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye (Psalm 32:8 NKJV). Your own ears will hear Him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left (Isaiah 30:21 NLT).

God bless you
