The only temptation [or trials] that has come to you is that which everyone has [(common to) human life]. But you can trust God [God is faithful], who will not permit you to be tempted more than you can stand. But when you are tempted, He will also give you a way to escape so that you will be able to stand [endure] it (1 Corinthians 10:13 EXB).

We often hear people say I just couldn’t resist it but according to our feature text, you can if you want to. After all… You have not yet struggled and fought agonizingly against sin, nor have you yet resisted and withstood to the point of pouring out your [own] blood (Hebrews 12:4 AMP).

I like that the text says… You can trust God… God is faithful meaning if it’s not what you can resist then He won’t allow it.

The key is always to look for that way of escape and I remember listening to someone say a few days ago that the requirement of the law under Moses gets you after you have committed the act while the requirements of grace that Jesus brings is supposed to prevent you from committing the act. ‎So for example, the law says… You shall not commit adultery (Exodus 20:14 AMP) but grace says… You have heard that it was said, you shall not commit adultery. But I say to you that everyone who so much as looks at a woman with evil desire for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart (Matthew 5:27-28 AMP).

So, what this means is that the Lord starts to work on your heart before you even get to committing the act and that is why we have the Help of the Holy Spirit who would start to speak to us as soon as He detects that seed being planted in us.

But you can trust God [God is faithful], who will not permit you to be tempted more than you can stand…

Reading this I’m thinking… Yes, we can trust God but don’t you think if He will not permit us to be tempted more than we can stand, then He’s hoping He can trust us?

Stop buying into the lie of the enemy. That’s why you have been struggling with it this long and feel so helpless. Off course you can resist it. God in His faithfulness would give you the grace to come through it. He would help you to do whatever it takes to overcome. So… let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in GOOD TIME for every need [appropriate help and WELL-TIMED HELP, coming just when we need it] (Hebrews 4:16 AMP).

30. August 2015 · Comments Off on DON’T TAKE SHORTCUTS · Categories: Choices, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Patience, Trusting God

Have you ever found yourself taking a shortcut when driving just so you could reach your destination early but then, only to find out that the shortcut wasn’t so short after all? Most times when stuck in traffic, I admire drivers that turn around to take an alternative route, but after getting lost so many times or ending up in an even greater traffic, I’ve learnt from experience to just stick to my original route.

The truth is that the devil wants us to take shortcuts that lead to destruction. He tried it with Jesus. He… led Him up to a high place and showed Him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to Him, “I WILL GIVE YOU ALL THEIR AUTHORITY AND SPLENDOR; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. If You worship me, it will all be yours.” (Luke 4:5-7 NIV)

Apart from wanting Jesus to worship him, this temptation is for Jesus to excuse Himself from the God chosen path that lies ahead of Him. Jesus’ mission was to take back the keys of the kingdom from satan but He was to do it via the cross. Here, Jesus has been offered a shortcut to leave His cross behind for quick access but Jesus chose to receive from His father what is His Fathers to give.

The devil has not stopped his tricks. He only packages them in different wrappings and offers them to us but this is only an attempt to get us off the track the Lord has chosen for us. However, choosing to go satan’s way is not the way to gain anything but to lose it. He gives with one hand and takes with ten.

There are so many things that the Lord has promised you but you are getting very impatient. You want to take shortcuts. Satan said… I WILL GIVE YOU ALL THEIR AUTHORITY AND SPLENDOUR. What authority? Jesus has that authority but see how He got it… He humbled Himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. THEREFORE, GOD ELEVATED HIM TO THE PLACE OF HIGHEST HONOR and gave Him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:8-11 NLT).

There’s always the tendency to want to take the easy path to growth and success without putting in the hard work. We don’t always like to sweat but sometimes opting for shortcuts means selling our soul to satan. The Lord desires to give you your heart desires but to submit to satan’s way of getting what you desire is to lose something greater.

God bless you

29. August 2015 · Comments Off on LET’S GO SHOPPING · Categories: Choices, Faith, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Joy, Peace

Three things immediately come to mind when one says LET’S GO SHOPPING; For WHAT, WHERE (location) and with WHAT (money)?

As Christians, we are told to renew our minds (Romans 12:2) and one of the things to come to terms with is that you are a spirit being housed in a body which is just a container for your spirit while in this world. The real you is your spirit but as you currently live in this world, when the world says lets go shopping, you are inclined to think of a physical location; a shopping centre or mall and immediately there are limitations. However, you are not of this world (John 15:19). This is an advantage because while limited in the flesh, in the spirit, you are unlimited. So if you were to get out of shopping in your senses and start shopping in your spirit, then you will find out that the shopping mall becomes open to a whole world of possibilities.

FAITH is the currency used in this spiritual shopping mall. By FAITH, we see the world called into existence by God’s word, what we see created by what we don’t see (Hebrews 11:3 MSG).

For us this FAITH… is the assurance (the confirmation, the TITLE DEED) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses] (Hebrews 11:1 AMP).

A TITLE DEED is a document showing ownership of a property. Once in your hand, it’s proof that you own the property even if you haven’t seen it yet. The New Living Translation says… Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. In order words, if someone says; “show me proof that what you are hoping for would actually happen”, you can show them your FAITH… your TITLE DEED.

Here in the UK, Delivery dates for your order varies but once you’ve paid, you know it’s coming so you are expectant. It’s not a case of doubting whether it would arrive. It’s the same principle when you use FAITH.

In this spiritual shopping mall, there are all kinds of shops; everything you’ll ever need… God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ (Ephesians 1:3 NLT). His divine power has bestowed on us everything necessary for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3 AMP). You can use your FAITH to purchase from the shop of SALVATION (Ephesians 2:8). Delivery date for this one is instant.

You can shop for peace, joy, houses, cars, anything… but the question now becomes; faced with many choices and an unlimited resource (FAITH), which shop will you stop at first? Which shops will you visit regularly? Are there shops you would never enter?

Food For Thought: In the world, people tend to spend more money on things they value… What are you going to spend you FAITH on?

Happy shopping…

God bless you

GOD RESISTS THE PROUD, but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6 NKJV).

I was reading this the other day and the picture that immediately came to mind was the Lord standing in one’s way just because He detects pride in you. You try to go left and there’s resistance. You try to go right but there’s also resistance and you‘re left wondering what’s going on. You start to bind the devil believing that he’s the reason you’re not making any headway but he’s not the one. Rather, it’s the Lord telling you that you’ve got to get rid of that wrong attitude.

I remember when the Lord first started preparing me for ministry. We had our usual end of year programme where a number of churches come together for two to three days and various pastors and ministers would take it in turns to share various messages in line with the theme of the programme. I remember asking my bishop to include me in the programme. I thought I was the preacher of the year so I wanted to show off my skills.

Bishop said he would ask the programme coordinator to see what he could do. I didn’t get a yes but I went back to God to ask Him for what to share which He very gladly gave to me. So the day came and as I arrived at the venue, the programme coordinator took me to the front and I’m thinking Yes, I’m going to preach today.

Hmmm… my dear friends, I didn’t get to preach nothing. Rather, every time we had a break, they came to get me from my front row seat to go and serve in the kitchen. They put me in charge of the kitchen and when break was over, I would go back and take my seat in the front row. LOL

“But Lord, what about the message that you gave me?” You won’t believe that between the worship songs and the exhortation from the various pastors that spoke, my message was delivered. It was so accurate that I had to show one of my pastor friend my notes.

Hmmm… I know you’ve never been there so please pray for me. When I told my brother, he so laughed at me. It wasn’t funny. I went home and began to ask the Lord what that was about. That was when He started to speak to me about pride and I just lay down on the floor and started asking Him to kill any trace of pride in me.

If you’ve followed ‘What is God up to?’ long enough, you would know that one prayer I like to say a lot is that of David who said… Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends You, and lead me along the path of everlasting life (Psalm 139:23-24 NLT).

Do you want to make this your prayer today?

God bless you

27. August 2015 · Comments Off on WHAT FEAR CAN DO‏ · Categories: Fear, Jesus Christ, Mind, Thoughts

‎Everything I feared and dreaded has happened to me. [or For the dread I dreaded has come to me, and what I feared has come to me.] (Job 3:25 EXB)

I remember pointing someone to this verse when they were so afraid of losing their job and today, I beg you to take a minute to meditate on it. If what Job said is true, then can you just imagine what fear is doing to you?

Let’s not be deceived. Many are struggling with secret fear though when you see them on the outside, it looks like they’ve got it all together but can you just imagine that Job could harbour such fear?

I mean, the book of Job starts by saying… He was blameless—a man of complete integrity. He feared God and stayed away from evil (Job 1:1 NLT). But then, I believe God that truly sees deep down inside our hearts must have detected that there was a part of Job’s worship that was driven by an unhealthy fear. His sons used to throw parties but… when these celebrations ended—sometimes after several days—Job would purify his children. He would get up early in the morning and offer a burnt offering for each of them. FOR JOB SAID TO HIMSELF, “PERHAPS MY CHILDREN HAVE SINNED AND HAVE CURSED GOD IN THEIR HEARTS.” THIS WAS JOB’S REGULAR PRACTICE (Job 1:5 NLT).

Perhaps it’s just me but anytime I read this, I sense some kind of unhealthy fear but… There is no fear in love [dread does not exist], but full-grown (complete, perfect) love turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror! For fear brings with it the thought of punishment, and [so] he who is afraid has not reached the full maturity of love [is not yet grown into love’s complete perfection] (1 John 4:18 AMP).

Satan may have had his own agenda concerning Job but God may have also said it’s time to work on that unhealthy fear for we know that… all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose (Romans 8:28 AMP).

Having said that, you’ve got to watch your thoughts because… For as he thinks in his heart, so is he (Proverbs 23:7 NKJV). Someone said every ‎issue begins with a small seed so be careful what you are planting in your spirit. The enemy always tries to use vain imaginations to give birth to evil things in your life and you MUST NOT let him.

It’s time to get rid of that fear… For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7 KJV)… Renew your mind… Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise (Philippians 4:8 NLT).

God bless you

Also in those days the important people [nobles] of Judah sent many letters to Tobiah, and he answered them. Many Jewish people [in Judah] had promised to be faithful… to Tobiah… These important people [They] kept telling me about the good things [deeds] Tobiah was doing, and then they would tell Tobiah what I said about him [my words]. So Tobiah sent letters to frighten [intimidate; terrorize] me (Nehemiah 6:17-19 EXB).

Hmmm… Do you know anyone that does that? If you do, then you better be very careful.

When I was working, I remember having to cut off from someone because they were bringing out the old Adamic nature in me and I didn’t like the person I was around them. They were one of those people that you have to pray hard to Jesus to help you make it through the day as you drive to work.

Apart from the offence, the arguments and the quarrelling, what I really didn’t like was that though we were supposed to be friends, it was like we were competing and I dislike that amongst friends. They were always wanting to see what I was doing but never revealing anything. I soon realised that their aim was to be one step ahead of me just to prove that they were better than I was in the office and since I don’t like competition amongst friends; I don’t like games and I don’t like not being real with people, I had to cleverly pull back. If Abraham can end an unhealthy relationship with Lot, so can I.

However, we had this mutual friend and somehow, I also realised that she was up to something fishy. She would come and tell me what this other person did or said, expecting me to reply but all I would say was “that’s great”. Full stop! ‘I’m wiser than you girl’. She soon stopped the game because she wasn’t getting anything out of me.

Beloved, have you ever come across such people? You need to be careful. An informant with a secret agenda only wants to hear what you have to say but rather than fall for it, just say “it’s none of my business. I’m saying nothing. What are you doing gossiping anyway? Shouldn’t you be working? Your break time is over. Get back to work and let me concentrate on mine”.

Also, an informant with a secret agenda would bring you news about someone else just so you are intimidated. But you just have to say “I don’t ‎ to hear it else what would happen is that you start getting jealous, offended, bitter… whatever. But you are to…. Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life (Proverbs 4:23 AMP).

25. August 2015 · Comments Off on SO WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?‏ · Categories: Action, Courage, God's Plan, Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ

I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency] (Philippians 4:13 AMP).

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me but I am not going to do anything. Oh yes, With God, I can do the impossible but I am staying right here in the possible because it is safe here”‎.

As I was listening to someone say these words yesterday, it made me ponder on how we are so good at quoting Scriptures and but hardly any good at taking action.

On Sunday, I literally pushed a young lady into moderating an open discussion in church because I knew she had it in her but she didn’t fall to tell everyone who cared to listen that I was forcing her to do it… “I don’t want to do this… I don’t know why she is making me do this?, she kept saying.

Prior to the day, “I can’t do this” is all she kept saying but I kept telling her “just be yourself, stand there and commit it all to Jesus and see what the Holy Spirit would do through you”. There was no getting out of it and so she very reluctantly went ahead to do it. However, after service she sent me a message to say “thank you for making me do it”. This is because she was so good that our Bishop requested that she continues next week. Off course, she tried to make excuses to get out of it but she was only able to postpone till the week after.

Later on when we were catching up, I told her that it’s not like I am being mean in pushing her and putting her on the spot like that but I’ve been there and because of her insecurities, that’s the only way to get her to do what the Lord has called her to do.

Back to the person I was listening to; they went on to say that many of us are hooked on receiving a word from the Lord and then we want Him to confirm it over and over again or give us more information just because we are stalling but the Lord always wants us to obey Him and take the first step first before He gives some more information.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me… so what are you going to do?

But be doers of the Word [obey the message], and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves [into deception by reasoning contrary to the Truth] (James 1:22 AMP). The Message Translation says… Don’t fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. ACT ON WHAT YOU HEAR!

24. August 2015 · Comments Off on WATCH WHAT YOU SAY · Categories: Agreement, Jesus Christ, Self Control, Wisdom, Words, Youth

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life] (Proverbs 18:21 AMP).

On Saturday, we had our youth event. It was one where we allowed the youth to just talk and in doing so, I was amazed at how much wisdom you can hear from the mouth of someone if you just put your judgements to one side.

There was this young guy with a big chain round his neck and piercing in his noise but the wisdom that came from his mouth was something else. Talking about youth crime, he said we should stop prophesying negative things over our youths and thinking about it, because of all the negative things we hear about the youths today, that’s all we ever do. You would hear people say “there’s no hope for this generation… they are all useless… they are always up to no good”… blah blah blah. Hmmm…

He then took it further and started advising that we should be careful what we say and what got me was when he said demons are just standing there waiting to say ‘AMEN’ to your negative confession. He said he is very careful what he says. For example, when he is in the lift and someone askes the question “are we going down?” Instead of saying yes, he says, “no… no… no… let’s clarify this… the lift is going down, not me. I am not going down. I am going up”. Let’s not give the agents of satan something to say ‘AMEN’ to.

What does ‘AMEN’ mean? It means ‘so be it’. Hmmm… so what are the words that come out from your mouth? When you say something, you have given out a command for either the angel of the Lord or the agents of satan to run with.

I remember a story that was told of a woman that bought a car and the words that continually came out of her mouth, according to my people was that… “I just know that one day… one day… I’m going to use this car to have an accident”. What negative confession? It eventually happened just as she said, then she started saying… “Didn’t I say it? I said it!” Yes, you said it dear so now don’t complain. You gave the enemy an opportunity to say a big Amen not just once but over and over again.

The words that we speak have so much power. The New Living Translation says… The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences… while the Message Translation says… Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.

You choose!!! Isn’t it time to clean out your mouth?

God bless you

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take (Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT).

I remember my brother’s wedding some years back. The day before, my mum made sure she packed everything we needed including a bag of serving spoons which she left by the front door so we would not forget it. There’s no way we could ever miss that right? Guess what? We did and we didn’t get to find out until we got to the church and who did they send back to fetch the bag? Me!!! I was told to go back and get it immediately after the church service.

I was upset because I knew by the time I got back, I would have missed the best part of the wedding reception; the couple’s entrance dance. However, I had no choice but to drive all the way to my mums house but as I opened the door, I was welcomed by a burning smell. I got to the kitchen only to find that we had forgotten something on the cooker. Now, can you imagine what would have happened if I hadn’t gone back? The wedding reception finished after midnight and we left the house in the morning.

It’s interesting to read how disappointed David was when he found out he was not allowed to go to war with the Philistines. He couldn’t understand why… “What have I done to deserve this treatment?” David demanded. “What have you ever found in your servant, that I can’t go and fight the enemies of my lord the king?” (1 Samuel 29:8 NLT)

Well, he didn’t get to go so had to go back home but… when David and his men arrived home at their town of Ziklag, they found that the Amalekites had made a raid into the Negev and Ziklag; they had crushed Ziklag and burned it to the ground. They had carried off the women and children and everyone else… (1 Samuel 30:1-2 NLT).

David came back to find that they had been raided. Can you imagine if he had gone to war? Only God knows how long it would have lasted. But because he came back early, he was able to pursue the Amalekites and found them spread out across the fields, eating and drinking and dancing with joy because of the vast amount of plunder they had taken.

David got back everything the Amalekites had taken, and he rescued his two wives. Nothing was missing: small or great, son or daughter, nor anything else that had been taken. David brought everything back. (1 Samuel 30:18-19 NLT)

We don’t always understand what God is up to when things don’t go the way we expect them to go but God knows what He is doing.

Don’t you think it’s time to say; Lord I don’t know what you’re up to but I know you’ve got my back. What I think is a disappointment is working out for my good.

God bless you

22. August 2015 · Comments Off on WAIT ON THE LORD · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Patience, Perseverance, Trusting God

Wait [Be quiet before] and trust [wait for] the Lord. Don’t be upset [worried; angry] when others get rich [with the prosperity/success of their way] or when someone else’s plans succeed [or they do evil deeds] (Psalm 37:7 EXB).

When you look around you and see the rate at which the people around you are prospering, there’s a tendency for you to listen to the devil who would try to whisper in your ears saying “fool what are you waiting for? Can’t you see everyone’s moving on? Can’t you see everyone around you is getting their big break? Can’t you see everyone around you is getting married? Can’t you see? Can’t you see? Can’t you see?…”

I recently heard a Christian advising another Christian lady to go and have a child outside wedlock because she isn’t’t married yet and her biological clock is ticking. Unfortunately, it is not the first time I’ve heard a Christian advising another Christian to do the same. They wanted to hear my opinion and they were expecting me to agree with them but I told them that the devil is a liar. There’s no biological clock where the Lord is concerned. That’s the trick of the enemy. They should wait on the Lord because… the blessing of the Lord—it makes [truly] rich, and He adds no sorrow with it [neither does toiling increase it] (Proverbs 10:22 AMP). Trust me, you don’t want the kind of blessing that is not from the Lord.

Though it may look like I’m foolish (and trust me when I say it does seem so at times), however, I’ve learnt from experience to focus on the Lord and go at the pace He is taking me rather than get involved in things that He didn’t send me to do because it always has a way of backfiring and like my old friend and I used to jokingly say, “we are now back at the end of the queue and unfortunately have to patiently wait for our turn”.

It’s a pity that many have fallen for this trick of the enemy because of impatience but… It is better to have little and be right [or righteous] than to have much and be wrong (Psalm 37:16 EXB). We tend to look at how others are making it in life but we really don’t know what they are up to. We don’t know whether God is in it.

The New Living Translation says… Be still in the presence of the Lord, and WAIT PATIENTLY FOR HIM TO ACT. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.

You may not fully know what the Lord is up to but you must trust that He is taking you somewhere. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord… (Psalm 37:23). The steps… and not the whole path of a good man… so the key thing is to trust the Lord and WAIT PATIENTLY FOR HIM TO ACT…

God bless you
