He makes me lie down in [fresh, tender] green pastures; He leads me beside the still and restful waters (Psalm 23:2 AMP).

Every time I read this verse, what jumps out to me so that the Lord sometimes has to make us lie down in a place of rest because we tend to be all over the place. Especially those of us that have had to fight for everything. Our mind, emotions and everything else is always working overtime wondering “What’s next?” “Who’s coming after me?” “Will that thing come through?” We are all over the place that when we get to a season when we’re meant to be still and just watch what the Lord will do, adrenaline won’t let us.

I remember listening to someone ask “how do you think the Israelites felt when Moses parted the red sea and they were made to pass through it?

Moses told the people, Fear not; stand still (firm, confident, undismayed) and see the salvation of the Lord which He will work for you today. For the Egyptians you have seen today you shall never see again (Exodus 14:13 AMP). But then, the next thing they see is something dramatic that they’ve never seen before… Then Moses raised his hand over the sea, and the Lord opened up a path through the water with a strong east wind. The wind blew all that night, turning the seabed into dry land. So the people of Israel walked through the middle of the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on each side! Then the Egyptians—all of Pharaoh’s horses, chariots, and charioteers—chased them into the middle of the sea (Exodus 14:21-23 NLT).

Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord???? Are you serious? With walls of water on both sides of my head and enemies chasing right behind, you want me to be still??? Let’s not forget they were humans just like you and I? You don’t know whether one slight thought of doubt would make the water come gushing down on me. Can you just imagine what the enemy would be whispering in their ears?

We may not like to admit it but there are times when God’s deliverance technique can be traumatic. “I know you are going to come through for me but I don’t want to have to go through that scene”. As a result, we are always on the edge so that even when in green pastures we find it had to be still.

I’m growing to trust the Lord a lot more but personally, I’ve never liked living on the edge… waiting for that 99.999th hour when He comes through for you. “Do you want to give me hypertension?” LOL… So no wonder He has to make us lie down. “It’s okay my child you can go to rest… I’ve got this”.

Saints, when God says ‘be still’, then ‘be still’. It can sometimes be difficult but… Let us LABOUR therefore to enter into that REST (Hebrews 4:11 KJV)

God bless you

30. July 2015 · Comments Off on YOUR GREATEST WEAPON‏ AGAINST THE ENEMY · Categories: Deliverance, Jesus Christ, Joy, Laughter, Praise, Prayer, Trusting God, Worship

At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the Lord caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves. The armies of Moab and Ammon turned against their allies from Mount Seir and killed every one of them. After they had destroyed the army of Seir, they began attacking each other. So when the army of Judah arrived at the lookout point in the wilderness, all they saw were dead bodies lying on the ground as far as they could see. Not a single one of the enemy had escaped (2 chronicles 20:22-24 NLT)

Yesterday, I was meant to be counselling a young lad but from the minute I woke up, praise and worship mode was activated and there was no stopping me. He meet me going through my collection of songs and we ended up singing, dancing, and just worshipping God that by the time we started praying, we could almost feel the tangible presence of God that he had to ask for a minute for his vision to clear before leaving.

He couldn’t stop saying “Aunty, I love being in your presence”. LOL… I wasn’t sure what I was doing but had to explain that I was teaching him how to change his atmosphere when in a funny mood. He later sent a message to say “thanks for the laugh and JOY”.

But I wasn’t always like this? “Do you know what the Lord has equipped you with?” I remember this was what a prophet told me at a time when I was a real cry baby because of all the terrible things happening to me then.

“The Lord has equipped you so that your greatest tool against the enemy is praise and worship. As you keep praising and worshipping God, you would see Him fighting your enemies for you”. Wow… So here I was thinking “no wonder I love music so much”. However, I spent most of my life singing love songs to men. One to express how much I love you and the other to say how much you broke my heart. LOL. The devil is liar.

The prophet went on to say that “even in the middle of the night, when you find yourself crying and can’t find the words to pray, just worship God as you cry‎ and watch what He does”. Since then, no matter how heavy my heart is, if I can just tap into that gift of praise and worship‎, I know I’m embarking on serious warfare.

Beloved, it doesn’t matter what situation you find yourself… always activate your praise. Of course, there are times when the devil would try fighting you so you can’t even open your mouth but only a few days ago as I was singing Matt Redman’s song that says … Bless the Lord oh my soul… Worship His Holy name… Sing like never before… Oh my soul… I’ll worship Your Holy name, I found myself talking to my soul… “You must bless the Lord… whether you like it or not… sing like never before…”

Why not try it? It works everytime.

God bless you

…When they came to Bethlehem, the entire town was excited by their arrival. “Is it really Naomi?” the women asked. “Don’t call me Naomi,” she responded. “Instead, call me Mara, for the Almighty has made life very bitter for me. I went away full, but the Lord has brought me home empty… Ruth 1:19-21 NLT)

What a home coming! But let’s rewind to many years back when Naomi and her family were leaving Bethlehem. We are told that… a severe famine came upon the land. So a man from Bethlehem in Judah left his home and went to live in the country of Moab, taking his wife and two sons with him (Ruth1:1 NLT).

So, let’s picture this. Can you imagine how it must have felt for the people that Naomi and her family were leaving behind?

“Oh how privileged you guys are to be leaving this place of hardship”, some of their neighbours must have felt. “I wish we had the same opportunity”. Not just that. Can you imagine what they would have been thinking of all the years they were gone?

“Naomi and her family must be doing so well by now. Their decision to leave this place must have paid off big time. They must have a great life‎ by now. Perhaps, Naomi now has many grandchildren. Maybe they’ve purchased a big land, built many houses and businesses and bought many cars (or camels).

However, this is what was really going on at the other end… Elimelech died, and Naomi was left with her two sons… But about ten years later, both Mahlon and Kilion died. This left Naomi alone, without her two sons or her husband (Ruth 1:3-5 NLT).

Hmmm… when Naomi returned, they all ran out to welcome her but I bet someone must have taken a good look at her countenance and said “it doesn’t look like you made it at all”.

Beloved, things are not always as they seem.‎ The fact that you’ve been left behind or they left you for greener pastures does not mean their life is a bed of roses.Their move wasn’t a ‘God move’. As far as God has said remain as you are or stay were you are, then please wait on Him. Also, don’t lose sleep wondering what’s happening to that person. The devil may want to make you feel like you’ve lost out but have patience. The famine is only temporary. God is working behind the scenes on your behalf to perfect all that concerns you (Psalm 138:8).

The Lord says… “Be still, and know that I am God!…” (Psalms 46.10 NLT)‎ …For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland (Isaiah 43:19 NLT)‎.

God bless you

What then shall we say to [all] this? If God is for us, who [can be] against us? [Who can be our foe, if God is on our side?]… Yet amid all these things we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us (Romans 8:31, 37 AMP).

Many years back, I remember armed robbers attacked our home in Africa and out of fear, my nephew who was only a child at the time ran and hid himself in the kitchen. However, the armed robbers soon made their way into the kitchen but before they could even locate where he was hiding (not that they were even looking for him), fearing that he would be in worse trouble if they found him first, he cried out… “see me here”. ‎As if to say, if I surrender myself, my punishment won’t be as bad. LOL… I can’t stop laughing.

‘See me here’!!! While it sounds funny, that’s the attitude many Christians have adopted. When the enemy comes LIKE a roaring lion (1 Peter 5:8), out of fear… we say ‘see me here’. However, we forget that the text says ‘like a roaring lion’ and not that he is a ‘roaring lion’. We also tend to forget that we… have overcome… because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4 NKJV).

David said… He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [WHOSE POWER NO FOE CAN WITHSTAND] (Psalm 91:1 AMP). However, many times, we choose to come out of our hiding place and say “see me here”.

The word of God tells us… No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it (1 Corinthians 10:13 NKJV).

The Lord would always make a way out of every temptation but we are too quick to give in and say “see me here”. As a result, we are quick to give in to temptation… sin… frustration… fear and every weak emotion you can think of.

Beloved, this is not the time to give in. Rather, you are to… be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil (Ephesians 6:10-11 NLT).

You may be in a battle right now but remember that you are fighting from a place of victory. The battle has already been won. This current fight is a fight for your faith so don’t you dare give in. Remain under the shelter of the Lord Almighty… then after the battle you will still be standing firm (Ephesians 6:13 NLT).

God bless you

27. July 2015 · Comments Off on DECIDE TO TRUST GOD ALL THE WAY · Categories: Help, Jesus Christ, Trusting God

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God (Psalm 20:7 NIV).

One thing you find when reading the books of Kings or Chronicles is that majority of the Kings did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and then when you get to the few that did what was right and you’re thinking “at last, here’s one that was faithful”, before you reach the end, you find that word ‘BUT’, meaning they did something that disqualified them.

Don’t you just hate that word ‘BUT’. It makes you want to pray hard… “Lord, please help me so the end of my story isn’t told with a big ‘BUT’”.

King Asa did what was pleasing and good in the sight of the Lord his God (2 Chronicles 14:2 NLT). Once an Ethiopian… attacked Judah with an army of 1,000,000 men and 300 chariots… so Asa deployed his armies for battle in the valley north of Mareshah. Then Asa cried out to the Lord his God, “O Lord, NO ONE BUT YOU CAN HELP the powerless against the mighty! Help us, O Lord our God, FOR WE TRUST IN YOU ALONE. It is in your name that we have come against this vast horde. O Lord, You are our God; do not let mere men prevail against You!” So the Lord defeated the Ethiopians… (2 Chronicles 14:9-12 NLT).

Sweet but you soon find a ‘BUT’ in his story. ‎King Baasha decided to attack but instead of turning once again to God, King Asa chose to enter a treaty with king Ben-Hadad and this was the result…

At that time Hanani the seer came to King Asa and told him, “Because you have put your trust in the king of Aram instead of in the Lord your God, you missed your chance to destroy the army of the king of Aram. Don’t you remember what happened to the Ethiopians and Libyans and their vast army, with all of their chariots and charioteers? At that time you relied on the Lord, and He handed them over to you. The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him. What a fool you have been! From now on you will be at war.” (2 Chronicles 16:7-9 NLT).

Hmmm… The saddest part of his story is that he didn’t learn his lesson… In the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa developed a serious foot disease. Yet even with the severity of his disease, he did not seek the Lord’s help but turned only to his physicians. So he died in the forty-first year of his reign (2 Chronicles 16:12-13 NLT).

How sad. He chose to rely on kings and doctors. What about you? Is your own trust in your government, doctors or boss? If you are going to trust the Lord, why not trust Him all the way? If He has done it before, won’t He do it again?

God bless you

26. July 2015 · Comments Off on TRUST ME, SAYS THE LORD‏ · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Patience, Trusting God

Those who trust [have confidence in] the Lord are like Mount Zion, which sits unmoved forever (Psalm 125:1 EXB).

I don’t know whether you have the same experience as I do but every now and then, the Lord backs me up in a corner and makes me pay attention to the words that I claim to proclaim and the whole of last week, me and Him have been battling with this phrase… “I trust You”. It didn’t help that I came across yet another powerful, thought provoking phrase by my man of the moment, John Maxwell saying “THOSE WHO CAN SEE GOD’S HAND IN THEIR LIVES CAN PUT THEIR LIVES IN GOD’S HANDS.”

Hmmm… This year, the Lord placed me on this journey where He wants me to surrender all to Him and those close to me would tell you that this song by William Mcdowell that says… ‘I SURRENDER ALL TO YOU… EVERYTHING I GIVE TO YOU… WITHHOLDING NOTHING’… has not seized from my mouth.

This is one year that as I’ve decided to let go of the things the Lord has asked off me, I’ve seen Him move in a way I’ve never seen before. So why are you crying yet again? Well, it’s always easier said than done. Remember I told You that we may have many ‘Garden of Gethsemane’ moments where I might have to cry blood as I give in to Your will. However, be rest assured that that’s just my flesh struggling to give in but let’s settle this now… You win every time.

King David said… O taste and see that the Lord [our God] is good! Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who trusts and takes refuge in Him (Psalm 34:8 AMP). However, for you to taste and see that the Lord is good, you may have to let go of the things you hold on dearly to and trust and fully rely on Him.

I remember in 2011, the word of the Lord that came to me was…

“Beloved, as long as your focus is on things that you have no personal control over you, will be subject to regret, disappointment and accusation. But, the Lord would have you release what you cannot control and to PUT YOUR FAITH AND TRUST IN HIM. ONLY THEN WILL YOU BE ABLE TO SEE THAT HE IS DOING A VERY GREAT AND POWERFUL WORK IN YOUR MIDST”.

Hmmm… “Trust Me”, says the Lord… and with tears rolling down my cheeks, I reply back saying “I trust You.”

My situation may not make sense to you. Well, mind your business. However, are you at that place where you are struggling to trust the Lord? Is your head saying one thing but your heart is saying another?

Well, here’s a word from the Lord for you today… “I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for” (Jeremiah 29:11 MSG).

Just trust Me.

God bless you

Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had not been able to bear children for him. But she had an Egyptian servant named Hagar. So Sarai said to Abram, “The Lord has prevented me from having children. Go and sleep with my servant. Perhaps I can have children through her.” And Abram agreed with Sarai’s proposal. So Sarai, Abram’s wife, took Hagar the Egyptian servant and gave her to Abram as a wife. (This happened ten years after Abram had settled in the land of Canaan.) So Abram had sexual relations with Hagar, and she became pregnant. But when Hagar knew she was pregnant, she began to treat her mistress, Sarai, with contempt (Genesis 16:1-4 NLT).

Here’s another excerpt from John Maxwell’s book, ‘Wisdom from Women in the Bible’…

“I said yes when Abraham asked me to leave my house. I said yes when Abraham asked me to accompany him on a thousand-mile journey to an unknown land. I said yes when Abraham asked me to live like a nomad in the wilderness. I even said yes when Abraham asked me to tell others I was his sister. I met each day with expectation. Would this be the day God would place a child in my womb? But the days turned into months, and the month’s years. I waited ten years but still God did not fulfil His promise. And I couldn’t see how He would do it so I decided to do something…

Have you ever felt like you needed to help God? So you took matters into your own hands? She laughs. Why do I even ask? Off course you have. Do you know anyone who hasn’t?

I thought I was helping God. All I was doing was making life worse for myself… I blamed Hagar for the mockery of her son Ismael. I blamed Abraham for the misery caused me by Hagar. I blamed God for not giving me a baby. But the reality is that I brought this trouble upon myself. God promised me what: He said I would have a son. He did not promise me when!!!!”

Okay, so reading this, the Scripture that came to mind is…. People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at the Lord (Proverbs 19:3 NLT). I do not need to tell you what Sarah’s solution has caused the whole of mankind today.

Can you see yourself in this story? Have you gone ahead or are planning to go ahead of God because you can no longer wait for what He promised? Maxwell went on to say that “our surrogate solutions are always poor substitutes for Gods promises.” Have you decided on a surrogate job, spouse… whatever???

Do you know there are always consequences to pay when we try to help God out? You may think you are running out of time but He is the owner of time. Why not decide today that there’s no way you can be wiser than God.

God bless you

But Ruth replied, “Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God (Ruth 1:16 NLT).

‎Reading John Maxwell’s book, ‘Wisdom from Women in the Bible’, I came across this quote…

Here’s Ruth, a young lady who had lost her husband and was left with a very bitter mother-in-law who felt God had abandoned her and was probably returning back home to die. Ruth was faced with the biggest decision of her life. Should I go with this bitter woman and her God or should I go back to my people? Despite the hopelessness of the situation, she decided to make a God-honouring decision which led her to the future she never imagined.

Are you struggling to make a God-honouring decision‏?

I’ve taken sometime out just to be alone with the Lord but every now and then, I put on my phone just to see if the whole world has fallen apart and it needs me to come to its rescue (LOL). As I did that yesterday, a young lady I met with last week called. She was quite upset. She was just coming from a job interview when we met. She later sent a message to say she got the long awaited job but then yesterday, she was so upset because she had to make the decision to give it up. She said “Aunty, I’m a people’s person. I know I can do the job and easily work my way up to a managerial position in no time. The only thing is that I have to be out there from morning to night and by the time I get home, I’m so tired I can’t even pray nor read my Bible and then it also means I can no longer go out on missions work on Saturdays”.

She happens to be part of a team that goes out winning souls all over London for like 5 hours in one go. I’ve done it several times and it’s not the easiest thing to do but when I asked her how she felt about being on the streets evangelising, she said it was the most fulfilling feeling in the whole world and didn’t want to give it up. So, I told her that at the age of 20, I don’t know of many people that would make that decision. There are many people today that God has called into full time ministry but are still finding it difficult to make the sacrifice.

I also told her that I’ve been crying my eyes out for days because I’ve recently had to make a heart-breaking decision but a God-honouring decision doesn’t go unnoticed by God. I hadn’t even read Maxwell’s quote then.

Are you struggling to make a God-honouring decision‏?… Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy. They weep as they go to plant their seed, but they sing as they return with the harvest (Psalm 126:5-6 NLT).

Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6 AMP).

Just before I left Nigeria a couple of weeks ago, a lady I met in one of the events I ministered in called me to ask for my bank details. She said the Lord asked her to sow a seed into my life. When I received the bank alert, I had to call her to say… “please, I don’t understand how you guys read your money. Can you confirm the amount you just paid in?” I was speechless when she did. I thanked her and thanked God because He is indeed faithful.

So now I’m back in London and last week she asked for my UK number wanting to talk to me. When she called, she started going on about how she struggled to obey the Lord because that money was what she planned to use to promote a movie she had just recently produced. As she was talking, I’m thinking… “Thank God I haven’t spent the money. Just give me your account details and I would transfer it back into your account”. But then she said after she sowed the money, the Lord opened a major door that she would never had otherwise thought possible and that He asked her to sow another seed.

So, here I am thinking okay, you’ve already surprised me with the first amount so there’s no way you can beat that but when I received the bank alert, it was double what she sowed before which has since left me double speechless because just before I left Nigeria, I on the other hand was saying “God, you’ve asked me to leave my job to do your work. I’m going back and I don’t know how I’m going to pay for so, so so. I had no idea where the money was going to come from. I thought I would get here, withdraw that money, add to the money I had but even them, it wasn’t going to be enough. Only to get back and the first phone call I received was from someone else asking if I had checked my UK account. They had paid in the exact amount I needed to meet my bill. Same week, I was going through my heap of letters, only to find a cheque for another amount which meant I was not just able to cover my bill for that month but for the next month. Hmmm… God is so faithful.

Why am I sharing this? Are you struggling to figure things out? There’s no way either myself or this young lady would have seen it coming but like the Message Translation says… Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; He’s the one who will keep you on track…

God bless you

And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men… All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition… MAKING THE WORD OF GOD OF NO EFFECT through your tradition which you have handed down… (Mark 7:7-13 NKJV)

I recently hear a story of a young woman who was always arguing with her husband because she always threw the head of fish away. When asked why, her reply was… “That’s what my mum used to do”. The argument was getting out of hand so she decided to find out why her mum threw the head of fish away. “Mum, why do you throw the head of fish away?” she asked. “That’s what my mum used to do”, her mum replied. Her mum was then made to ask her own mum who had the same answer. Finally, they got to the great-grandson ma who supposedly introduced this family tradition and when asked why she threw the head of fish away, she said… “That’s because in our days the ovens we had were too small to fit the whole fish so I had to cut off the head and throw it away”.

‎Oh dear!!! So our young lady was fighting her husband over something that had no basis. Who knows what would have happened to her marriage if she didn’t stop to question her actions.

I laughed when I heard it but then on a serious note, I remembered the main focus of my Applied Theology programme which was to look back at church practices over the years and see which ones are really faithful to the Bible and Christianity and which are just man-made tradition. Hmmm… You would be surprised at how we are trapped in tradition which according to Jesus… makes the word of God of no effect. It becomes a barrier to what Jesus wants to do in your life.

Jesus offered the Samaritan woman by the well living water but then she asked… Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?”(John 4:12 NKJV)

That’s tradition speaking. She was caught up in tradition, failing to realise that all it did was see her going round in a virtuous cycle. But like someone said… why are we so loyal to ineffectiveness? Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again (John 4:13 NKJV)

At the beginning of the year, I told the Lord that this is the year I’m killing every religious spirit in me. I’m not going to be caught in a routine just because this is how it’s always been done. I’ve decided to always reflect back at my actions and ask myself… Why am I doing this? What am I getting out of it? Is the word of God actually working in my life?

Is the word of God working in your life? Have you asked yourself… WHY AM I DOING WHAT I AM DOING‏?
