David danced before the Lord with all his might… David and all the people of Israel brought up the Ark of the Lord with shouts of joy and the blowing of rams’ horns. But… Michal, the daughter of Saul, looked down from her window. When she saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, she was filled with contempt for him (2 Samuel 6:14-16 NLT).

I’ve got an Aunty that so dances during praise that her very western daughter gets so embarrassed and keeps telling her… “mum, please stop! You dance like someone who is possessed”. LOL

Seriously, this woman dances. I thought I was crazy until I met her. First time I saw her dance was in a conference and I’m thinking… Ruky, you’ve certainly met your match. My mum was seating between us and didn’t know which way to turn. Others were also looking but I’m thinking you didn’t come here to watch us dear… focus on what brought you here.

You know you come across people that think… “What’s up with you? Or those that think “it doesn’t take all that” or even worst, those that think, “You must behave a certain way when people are around”. Really? Do you know what it’s cost me to come this far? ‎

This was what happened ‎between David and his wife Michal… When David returned home to bless his own family, Michal… came out to meet him. She said in disgust, “How distinguished the king of Israel looked today, shamelessly exposing himself to the servant girls like any vulgar person might do!” David retorted to Michal, “I was dancing before the Lord, who chose me above your father and all his family! He appointed me as the leader of Israel, the people of the Lord, so I celebrate before the Lord. Yes, and I am willing to look even more foolish than this, even to be humiliated in my own eyes!…” (2 Samuel 6:20-22 NLT).

LOl… what’s really bothering you Michal? Is it jealously? ‎ I like that David said… you haven’t seen anything yet. I would even do worse than this. ‎Do you know where I’m coming from?

The funny thing is that there are times when it’s my praise that keeps me from falling apart. Those are the times when I don’t feel like carrying on but then, the Bible says… let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God… (Hebrews 13:15 NLT)

Beloved… It is not the dead who praise the Lord (Psalm 115:17 NIV). Never allow anyone define how you are to praise God. Don’t put your title before God. There’s no post that is greater than that of our Lord and I like that He says… “If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers!” (Luke 19:40 NLT).

Its Sunday and as you attend church today, don’t allow the stones take your place.

God bless you

30. May 2015 · Comments Off on DO YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF TO BE A DEAD DOG? · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Restoration

“Don’t be afraid!” David said. “I intend to show kindness to you because of my promise to your father, Jonathan. I will give you all the property that once belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will eat here with me at the king’s table!” Mephibosheth bowed respectfully and exclaimed, “Who is your servant, that you should show such kindness to a dead dog like me?”(2 Samuel 9:7-8 NLT)

I find it interesting how one can continue reading a story in the Bible and just see it as one of those popular Bible stories until one day you start to see yourself in a similar position and then the Holy Spirit makes you ponder on these very words… “How do you see yourself? What makes you different from Mephibosheth? Do you see yourself as a dead dog?” And I’m thinking oh my God!!! Do I really see myself as a dead dog?

Recently, I was having a conversation with a friend about the appointed time for the Lord’s restoration in certain areas of my life and the only thing I found myself telling them was to go away!!! Well… what I really, really wanted to say was “get lost” but I’m a Christian and can’t be found using that language.

Now, for someone that writes what is God up to daily, encouraging people to focus on what God is doing in their lives, this is a frightening situation to be in and the Holy Spirit has really confronted and challenged my thinking. What are you really saying Ruky???

The Lord is indeed a‎ God of restoration but when you start to hear from various sources that He wants to restore you in areas you have long buried, you are like… all of you should get out of here… Me??? I’m sure Mephibosheth would help complete the sentence… Me? Dead dog like me? What could I have possibly done to deserve this sort of kindness?

I began to wonder… How many people see themselves as dead dogs when it comes to particular situations in their lives? The kind of situation that would make you laugh like Abraham and Sarah when the Lord says…. this time next year…

Mephibosheth was living in LO-DEBAR (2 Samuel 9:5); meaning a place of no pasture, barren land, land of desolation; land of despair and when you’ve been in that situation for long, it becomes like your normal. I wonder how many people are living in their own land of despair‎… Nothing good can ever happen to me so stop being nice to me and speaking hope into my life.

Where are you today? Perhaps that’s what the Lord is saying to you today… come out of your land of despair ‎and embrace the wonderful restoration plan that He has in stock for you.

When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed (Psalm 126:1 NIV).

God bless you

The Ark of the Lord remained there in Obed-edom’s house for three months, and the Lord blessed Obed-edom and his entire household. Then King David was told, “The Lord has blessed Obed-edom’s household and everything he has because of the Ark of God.” So David went there and brought the Ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the City of David with a great celebration (2 Samuel 6:11-12‎ NLT).

Have you ever experienced the Lord bless everybody around you with the very thing you want? Why does He do that?‎ David had probably given up because of fear but when he heard how the Lord had blessed Obed-edom, he went straight to his house to say… “Give me back what belongs to me”.

We see something similar with Hannah. Hannah was content with ‎just being religious. Every year she was happy driving in her rich husband’s luxurious car to the church in Shiloh but the Lord would not have it that way. After blessing her rival, Peninnah with children while she had none, He made sure Peninnah did not let her rest.

The Bible says… and her rival also provoked her severely, to make her miserable, because the Lord had closed her womb. So it was, year by year, when she went up to the house of the Lord, that she provoked her; therefore she wept and did not eat (1 Samuel 1:6-7 NKJV).

This happened until Hannah couldn’t take it anymore… So Hannah arose after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh… and she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the Lord and wept in anguish (1 Samuel 1:9-10 NKJV).

I’m sure the Lord must have been saying… “Now we are talking! Come up here so I can download into your spirit the plans I have for your life”.

There are times when the Lord would do whatever it takes to catch your attention. I’ve seen this happen in my life. I’ve seen the Lord bless others with what He knew I so desperately wanted. I also had a real Peninnah who provoked the life out of me but what that did for me was that it made me cry out to the Lord. Till date, when you see me praying and groaning in the spirit, you would either be like Eli who thought Hannah was drunk (1 Samuel 1:12-14) or like the people on the day of Pentecostal who thought the Apostles where drunk (Acts 2:13). But they weren’t. They were only praying in the spirit; connecting with God’s Spirit to give birth to the Samuel; to give birth to the church and in my case, to give birth to the ministries and books I was carrying in my womb.

I can go on and on ‎in the topic but this is enough to make you reflect on what’s happening around you… is the Lord trying to catch your attention?

God bless you

“So here is what you are to tell my servant David: The God-of-the-Angel-Armies has this word for you: I took you from the pasture, tagging along after sheep, and made you prince over my people Israel. I was with you everywhere you went and mowed your enemies down before you. Now I’m making you famous, to be ranked with the great names on earth. And I’m going to set aside a place for my people Israel and plant them there so they’ll have their own home and not be knocked around anymore. Nor will evil men afflict you as they always have, even during the days I set judges over my people Israel. Finally, I’m going to give you PEACE from all your enemies (2 Samuel 7:8-11 MSG).

You know when you are moved to underline things in your Bible as you read… well I’m guilty as charged. I’m the world’s greatest highlighter that I can only use a Bible once. I have to get a new one every year. However, as I was reading the above text and going through all the promises of God to David, I found that I was only moved to underline PEACE‎… I’M GOING TO GIVE YOU PEACE..‎. Don’t get me wrong. Everything else on the list is great but what stood out for me was PEACE.

And then as I was reading the gospel of John, I came across the word again… “I leave you PEACE [the Greek word for “PEACE” reflects the Hebrew shalom, a typical Hebrew farewell; but Jesus’ PEACE, in the sense of WHOLENESS, is also a characteristic of the messianic kingdom]; my PEACE I give you. I do not give it to you as the world does. So don’t let your hearts be troubled or afraid (John 14:27 EXB)

Hmmm… I remember a few years ago when the ‎Lord gave me this word. It was a period in my life when all hell was breaking loose. I woke up reciting this verse, but this day something else in this translation caught my attention and it’s the word ‘SHALOM’.

I immediately remembered something that a friend (who obviously thinks ‎I still need sorting out and was looking for a polite way to say it to me) sent to me last week.

They said… ‎“Hebrew words go beyond their spoken pronunciation. Each Hebrew word conveys feeling, intent and emotion. Shalom is more than just simply peace; it is a COMPLETE PEACE. It is a feeling of contentment, completeness, wholeness, wellbeing and harmony. According to Strong’s Concordance 7965, Shalom means completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquillity, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord”.

Hmmm… This definitely puts a new spin on the word…. SHALOM. Have you got COMPLETE PEACE? Isn’t this something to aim for?

For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and PEACE and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17 NLT).

Shalom!

God bless you

27. May 2015 · Comments Off on THAT CHAPTER OF YOUR LIFE THAT YOU WOULD RATHER RIP OUT‏ · Categories: God's Plan, Grace, Jesus Christ, Restoration, Salvation

When Uriah’s wife heard that her husband was dead, she grieved for her husband. When the time of mourning was over, David sent someone to bring her to his house. She became his wife and bore him a son. But God was not at all pleased with what David had done (2 Samuel 11:26-27‎ MSG)

When you read the whole of David’s story, there’s one chapter that you get to that’s so hard to reconcile and that’s 2 Samuel Chapter 11; the chapter that saw David go from one mess into an even deeper mess‎.

He started this downward trajectory by taking some chill out time watching free pornography (Verse 2) when he wasn’t supposed to be at home and then committing adultery which led to the ‘sir, I missed my period’ news that most men that eat secret honey dread to hear (Verse 4-5) which then led to big time scheming (Verses 6-13) and an arranged murder (Verses 12-16).

This is definitely a chapter in David’s life that I bet he would want ripped out of his book and I’m sure if asked what’s the one thing he would have done differently if given the opportunity to rewrite his story, he would say… “I would have gone to war like the others”.

Do you have a chapter in your life’s story ‎that you would rather rip out? Like someone said, many don’t tell their full testimony. There are some things you would rather leave out. Those things that fall under the ‘it’s complicated’ or the ‘mind your business’ category.

I have a section in my book that I didn’t want to include but the Lord wouldn’t let me and when my mum was reading it, I was praying that the two pages would stick together so she doesn’t get to read the contents but I later realised that it wasn’t just my story alone and the Lord has been using it to liberate people and show the power of His amazing grace.

I like that even after marrying David, in the genealogy of Jesus, Bathsheba is still referred to as Uriah’s wife (Matthew 1:6). I believe the Lord did that so we are left without a doubt that what David did was absolutely wrong. However, the greater message there is God’s grace and how He can still use David and Uriah’s wife to accomplish His great purpose.

What chapter of your life would you rather rip out? Could it be just the tool that the Lord wants to use to set you and others free?

Then I heard a loud voice shouting across the heavens, “It has come at last—salvation and power and the Kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Christ. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters has been thrown down to earth—the one who accuses them before our God day and night. And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony… (Revelations 12:10-11 NLT).

For we do not have a High Priest Who is unable to understand and sympathize and have a shared feeling with our weaknesses and infirmities…but One Who has been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sinning (Hebrews 4:15 AMP).

Yesterday was bank holiday in the UK and so a friend and I decided to meet somewhere for a meal. We planned to meet outside the venue at 3pm. I got there early but she was late. In addition, when she eventually arrived, she told me we had to wait for someone else and I’m thinking… Okay, I thought it was just both of us. However, immediately I spotted the other lady from afar, something said.. that’s a lady you need to meet.

I later found that that ‘something’ was the Holy Spirit. I’ve never met this lady before but in about 5 minutes of meeting her and introducing myself, she started to share her experience with her estranged husband that by the time my friend came to join us where we were seating, she had that look of… how were you able pull that out of her that fast?

Anyhow, she went on and on about her broken relationship but one thing I kept asking her was… “how do you feel about it?” She kept dodging the question but I’m well trained. I kept asking… “but how do you feel dear? Eventually, she opened up and I’m thinking… now we are talking. Let’s work on those emotions instead of burying them.

Most times, we either intellectualise our situation where we try to explain our feelings away in a cold and detached way than deal with the rawness of our emotions or we over-spiritualise it and say ‘it is well’ because we have such a learned behaviour. However, in the words of the late Dr Myles Munroe, the Bible says we should RENEW our mind and not REMOVE our mind.

How are you feeling about it? This is where I love how the King James Bible put it… we have not an high priest which cannot be TOUCHED WITH THE FEELING of our infirmities…

Jesus can be touched with whatever we are feeling and if we are able to really open up, then the healing process can begin. When we bottle things, that’s when we harbour feelings of guilt, unforgiveness, bitterness and prolonged anger which according to the Bible is sin (Ephesians 4:26) plus your spiritual pathway to the Father becomes clogged up.

Personally, I had to (and I’m still taking) the necessary steps to address my emotions, else I would be so messed up. But I found that His grace is amazing for my restoration.

HOW DO YOU REALLY FEEL ABOUT IT?

Let us… fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace… that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it] (Hebrews 4:16 AMP).

God bless you

Jabez was honorable above his brothers; but his mother named him Jabez [sorrow maker], saying, because I bore him in pain. Jabez cried to the God of Israel, saying, Oh, that You would bless me and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and You would keep me from evil so it might not hurt me! AND GOD GRANTED HIS REQUEST (1 Chronicles 4:9-10 AMP).

Recently, I went to pick up a young lady for an event and though I gave her sufficient time, she wasn’t ready when I got there. Her mum wasn’t happy about it so asked me to talk to her about her lateness but I had already done that. Previously, I told her I can’t stand lateness. I work to time and always do my best to ensure I’m never late. I told her that I was surprised because we share the same birthday month and she was the first I’ve come across which such an attitude. However, that’s when she said… it’s not my fault Aunty… I was born 2 weeks late. No matter how I try to be early, I always end up late.

LOL… for someone that knows how to talk, I didn’t know how to respond to that so when her mum asked me to speak to her, I told her that she said it’s because she was born late. We laughed about it but her mum was baffled at her mind-set… I was born late so there’s nothing I can do about it. So, imagine that as she grows up, despite the fact that she’s an A student, she could turn up late for exams. She sings so probably turn up late for ‎ events. She certainly did for my book launch… and I doubt that any employer would tolerate habitual lateness.

Aunty, it’s not my fault I was born late… What an excuse to live a life of lateness!!!! What’s your own excuse? Is it valid? ‎Even if it is, can you do something about it?

Many settle for a life less that what the Lord has destined for them but I like that Jabez didn’t.‎ Despite the circumstance surrounding his birth, he decided that he had the power to change things and so he prayed… Lord, change my situation… AND GOD GRANTED HIS REQUEST.

Jesus said… I came that you may have life… but He didn’t stop there, He said… I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows) (John 10:10 AMP).

Many have many excuses and we tend to blame everybody and everything else for our misfortunes and less than godly behaviour but we can make a choice and certainly have the power to change things… For His divine power has bestowed upon us all things that [are requisite and suited] to life and godliness, through the [full, personal] knowledge of Him Who called us by and to His own glory and excellence (virtue) (2 Peter 1:3 AMP).

SO, WHAT’S YOUR EXCUSE?‏

God bless you

The woman left her water jar beside the well and ran back to the village, telling everyone, “Come and see a Man who told me everything I ever did! Could He possibly be the Messiah?” So the people came streaming from the village to see Him (John 4:28-29 NLT).

Yesterday, I spoke at a youth event themed ‘the meaning of love in the 21st century’ and as someone that’s divorced twice, I spoke on the topic; ‘why are we not growing old together?’

I was excited about the event because the Lord has told me I’m going to work with the youths because they are so lost and I’m able to speak their language. However, when I got there, it was something else. Firstly, I came with one of my young mentees who was going to be ministering in songs. I assumed it was going to be gospel but when she started practising, I had to ask… “is that the song you’re going to sing?” “Yes aunty”. Okaaaay????… does your ‘STRICT’ pastor dad know? “Yes, I’ve been practicing at home”. Okaaaay????… No wonder he’s asked me to book an appointment to see him. LOL…

Secondly, hmmm… when I started seeing some of the youths and how they were dressed, especially a group of boys that run a YouTube channel called ‘let’s talk about it’…

And then the views on… monogamy, dating, premarital sex etc… hmmm. I was seating in the audience so well-blended and I’m thinking… please… don’t ever put this on YouTube.

However, I was glad I was able to hear them out and when it got to my turn, I told them yes I’m a minister but I’m not here to preach. Let’s just talk about my story in my book. Hmmm… By the time I finished, a young lady walked up to me and said… please I haven’t been to church in 6 years, can you give me your church address? Also, a young Chinese lady came and said I would love to do a documentary on your story. Another young white lady came and said when you were talking about seeing yourself as a good thing (Proverbs 18:22) before you get married, she was really moved because she’s currently struggling with identity and esteem issues so like the Chinese lady, I told her “if I give you my book, would you read it?” She said YES, so I gave her a free copy which ends with the salvation prayer. hmmm…

And then the ‘let’s talk about it’ crew were all over me… Aunty, just share a bit of what you said… we want to air it on our channel. We also want to work with you in future and I’m thinking… It works every time. My daughter couldn’t stop talking about it… mummy… “the anointing and unction that flows from you when you speak”.

It’s brokenness dear. When you break a pot that has been filled with oil, the oil just pours out uncontrollably. It’s also the power of your testimony. The Samaritan woman was created for a significant purpose, but she wasn’t necessarily equipped in the world’s eyes. So Jesus started her off with a simple tool—“her story”. She went about telling people about her experience and people came rushing to meet Jesus.

Have you got a story people need to hear?

God bless you

23. May 2015 · Comments Off on PRISONER OF HOPE‏ · Categories: God's Plan, Hope, Patience, Promise, Restoration, Reward, Spiritual Growth, Trusting God

Return to the stronghold [of security and prosperity], you prisoners of hope; even today do I declare that I will restore double your former prosperity to you (Zechariah 9:12 AMP).

Just before I went to bed last night, a friend sent me a message and at the end they called me a ‘prisoner of hope’ and as I woke up this morning meditating on what to share today, the phrase came up again and the first thing I was led to do was to look at the definition of the word… ‘Prisoner’ and ‘Prison’.

A prisoner is someone who is confined in prison or kept in custody, especially as the result of legal process.

A prison is a building for the confinement of persons held while awaiting trial or sentenced after conviction.

So in essence, as a ‘prisoner of hope’ one is confined to remain in hope which is our prison and I once remember Joyce Meyer so beautifully illustrating this once when she brought a prison on stage.

We are meant to be prisoners of hope. However, like the Shunammite woman, many of us are runaway prisoners. We’ve released ourselves from the prison of hope. After what seems like a lifetime of waiting to have a child, she decided… forget it… and so when she was told by Elisha… “Next year at this time you will be holding a son in your arms!” “No, my lord!” she cried. “O man of God, DON’T DECEIVE ME AND GET MY HOPES UP LIKE THAT.” (2 Kings 4:16 NLT)

…DON’T DECEIVE ME AND GET MY HOPES UP LIKE THAT… She couldn’t bear to hope again but that’s because… Hope deferred makes the heart sick (Proverbs 13:12) and the problem for many of us is that we don’t want to feel that sickness of the heart. Prolonged waiting without seeing any result has actually become traumatic for some. However, waiting for the unseen is what hope is all about… If we already have something, we don’t need to hope for it. But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently (Romans 8:24-25 NLT).

This means as long as we haven’t seen results, we must remain locked up and continue hoping but it’s not just for nothing. I like that our text says… the reward is a double portion of your former prosperity and like Job who said… I wait, till my change come (Job 12:12), He sure got a double portion of what he lost.

Beloved, don’t be a runaway prisoner. Return to your prison and keep hoping… for surely there is a latter end [a future and a reward], and your hope and expectation shall not be cut off (Proverbs 23:18 AMP).

You are only under trial… For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing (James 1:3-4 NLT).

God bless you

22. May 2015 · Comments Off on LEARNING TO BECOME WHO YOU ALREADY ARE‏ · Categories: God's Plan, Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ, Revelation

For those whom He foreknew [of whom He was aware and loved beforehand], He also destined from the beginning [foreordaining them] to be molded into the image of His Son… And those whom He thus foreordained, He also called; and those whom He called, He also justified… And those whom He justified, He also glorified… (Romans 8:29-30 AMP).

A while ago, I was listening to someone say that “when people say God is about to do something in your life, it’s not true. God isn’t about to do anything. He’s already done all there needs to be done‎ (Genesis 2:2, Hebrews 10:12-14, Romans 8:34). ‎You, on the other hand may be about to come into something that’s already be done.

‎It’s just the same way a movie director already knows how the movie ends before the actors start acting out the scenes and I heard that in some cases, the last scene is sometimes acted before the others so every other scene is working towards the last scene.

Also, I once heard someone say when they are watching a movie for the first time, they are all over the place screaming at their TV‎… “Look behind you. He’s about to attack”. However, once they’ve watched the movie and they happen to be there when someone else is watching it for the first time and getting just as anxious about the same thing, they just say… “Oh don’t worry, she’ll be alright…” but that’s because they’ve already seen the end.

‎The first person I was listening to went on to say “when we are frustrated about something, we try to get God just as frustrated and it bothers us when He sees us frustrated and does nothing”. However, He’s already seen the end and knows that ‘you’ll be alright’. ‎ I’m thinking of the Israelites. Way before they became slaves, the Lord told Abraham… “You can be sure that your descendants will be strangers in a foreign land, where they will be oppressed as slaves for 400 years. But I will punish the nation that enslaves them, and in the end they will come away with great wealth (Genesis 15:13-14 NLT).

We think God is walking through time with us but God knows the end from the beginning‎ and is just as acquainted with our tomorrow as we are with our past‎. That’s why we must allow the Holy Spirit pray on our behalf… because the Spirit intercedes and pleads [before God]… according to and in harmony with God’s will (Romans 8:27 AMP).

Beloved, you’ re here in time slowly learning and becoming what you already are and the great news is that YOU’LL BE ALRIGHT. God finishes before He starts that’s why He assures you all things work together… We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for GOOD to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose (Romans 8.28 AMP).

God bless you
