“This command I am giving you today is not too difficult for you, and it is not beyond your reach. It is not kept in heaven, so distant that you must ask, ‘Who will go up to heaven and bring it down so we can hear it and obey?’ It is not kept beyond the sea, so far away that you must ask, ‘Who will cross the sea to bring it to us so we can hear it and obey?’ No, the message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart so that you can obey it. “Now listen! Today I am giving you a choice between life and death, between prosperity and disaster (Deuteronomy 30.11-15 NLT).
Last week, as I was travelling down the motorway, I found myself going slightly over the speed limit and without no speed cameras in sight or speed limit warning signs to slow me down, I said to myself… “hey, I don’t like the speed at which you’re going so you better slow down”. From then on, I did my best to ensure I was under the speed limit but then the Lord started ministering to me and the question is… what made me decide to slow down?
Simple. I felt uncomfortable and without being told knew within me that it was unsafe.
So, what am I trying to say here? There comes a point when you know it’s for your own good to obey God’s word because in doing so, you know you are choosing life. No one has to force you. No pastor has to preach and lose sleep over you. They don’t have to go into heaven and bring the word down… it becomes a matter of choice… TODAY I AM GIVING YOU A CHOICE BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH, BETWEEN PROSPERITY AND DISASTER… and without being told you know what the right choice is. The psalmist said… I have hidden Your word in my heart, that I might not sin against You (Psalms 119:11 NLT).
Also, last year, my driving licence was endorsed with some penalty points. It was very painful because it was something that could have been avoided and I vowed that that would be the first and last time so nobody had to tell me twice… my suffering was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to Your decrees (Psalms 119.71 NLT).
I was telling a friend two days ago that I can’t afford to involve myself in anything that’s outside the will of God because I know for sure that it won’t work and I don’t think I’ve got it in me to pay the price or bear the consequences. I’ve been there, done that and have the scars to show for it. Hmmm… even though Jesus was God’s Son, He learned obedience from the things He suffered (Hebrews 5:8 NLT).
Have you learnt to choose life with your decisions?
