“This command I am giving you today is not too difficult for you, and it is not beyond your reach. It is not kept in heaven, so distant that you must ask, ‘Who will go up to heaven and bring it down so we can hear it and obey?’ It is not kept beyond the sea, so far away that you must ask, ‘Who will cross the sea to bring it to us so we can hear it and obey?’ No, the message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart so that you can obey it. “Now listen! Today I am giving you a choice between life and death, between prosperity and disaster (Deuteronomy 30.11-15 NLT).

Last week, as I was travelling down the motorway, I found myself going slightly over the speed limit and without no speed cameras in sight or speed limit warning signs to slow me down, I said to myself… “hey, I don’t like the speed at which you’re going so you better slow down”. From then on, I did my best to ensure I was under the speed limit but then the Lord started ministering to me and the question is… what made me decide to slow down?

Simple. I felt uncomfortable and without being told knew within me that it was unsafe.

So, what am I trying to say here? There comes a point when you know it’s for your own good to ‎obey God’s word because in doing so, you know you are choosing life. No one has to force you. No pastor has to preach and lose sleep over you. They don’t have to go into heaven and bring the word down… it becomes a matter of choice… TODAY I AM GIVING YOU A CHOICE BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH, BETWEEN PROSPERITY AND DISASTER… and ‎without being told you know what the right choice is. The psalmist said… I have hidden Your word in my heart, that I might not sin against You (Psalms 119:11 NLT).

Also, last year, my driving licence was endorsed with some penalty points. It was very painful because it was something that could have been avoided and I vowed that that would be the first and last time so nobody had to tell me twice… my suffering was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to Your decrees (Psalms 119.71 NLT).

I was telling a friend two days ago that I can’t afford to involve myself in anything that’s outside the will of God because I know for sure that it won’t work and I don’t think I’ve got it in me to pay the price or bear the consequences. I’ve been there, done that and have the scars to show for it. Hmmm… even though Jesus was God’s Son, He learned obedience from the things He suffered (Hebrews 5:8 NLT).

Have you learnt to choose life with your decisions?

God bless you

It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to His loved ones ‎(Psalms 127:2 NLT)

Do you take time out just to rest?

I remember one day during the Easter break, I went to bed at 5pm to take a nap. However, I tried to get up later because I had things to do but I just couldn’t. I eventually opened my eyes at 5am the next morning and as I jumped out of bed, I thought to myself… oh my God!!! The enemy has tricked me but then I could almost hear God say “shut up, the devil didn’t trick you nothing… you’re just exhausted”.

This was after my book launch. Before that day, I had essays to hand in and it was the same thing afterwards and when people asked how I was feeling, I thought… who has time to feel anything? But then, it got to the point that I became so exhausted and may I add, feeling very low and vulnerable. The climax was when I fell out big time with someone. It all came out and I’m thinking where did all this come from? I thought that character was dead? One sister said… “I was so surprised. I’ve never seen Minister‎ Ruky like this before”. It was so embarrassing.

So, when I woke up from my 12 hours sleep, the Lord took me to Elijah’s story. After a major event, he was down and out and wanted God to take his life because he was filled with fear but ‎what did God prescribe for him? Sleep and food!

Elijah…. lay down and slept… but as he was sleeping, an angel touched him and told him, “Get up and eat!” … so he ate and drank and lay down again. Then the angel of the Lord came again and touched him and said, “Get up and eat some more, or the journey ahead will be too much for you.” So he got up and ate and drank, and the food gave him enough strength to travel forty days and forty nights… (1 Kings 19:5-8 NLT)

Recently, the Lord has been ministering to me about the fact that He’s been working on my inner man but it’s time to work on my outside and that includes my health and general wellbeing because it’s needed for the next phase of my journey. It also means watching my diet… hmmm…

‎I’ve learnt that when you are exhausted you can hardly function. Your mind starts to run haywire and play tricks on you and you can snap at any little thing and when it gets to that point, the Lord may put you out before you put somebody out.

Do you need to take a long nap? A holiday or something? Yes, God is Spiritual but He is also very practical.

God bless you

28. April 2015 · Comments Off on WHAT’S YOUR THINKING LIKE?‏ · Categories: Action, Jesus Christ, Mind, Thoughts

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise (Philippians 4.8 NLT).

A few days ago, my friend was telling me of how we are both alike in the sense that once we’ve set our minds on something, we don’t rest until we get it. Isn’t that a great thing?

Okay, so let me not lie; she was particularly referring to food on this occasion. It was her son’s birthday and I was telling her how nice his cake was. I said if I had known, I would have taken a bigger portion home so she told me that there was still some left but then I said… so do you now expect that I would drive all the way down just for a piece of cake? That’s when she said “me and you are alike… bla… bla… bla” and so I had to rebuke her. However, that’s generally how I operate. Once my mind is set on something, I become very restless until I take hold of it but then I really started thinking of the power of a thought and how the Bible says we can channel our minds to think on the right things which has the power to direct the course of our lives.

You can choose to be miserable or happy based on what you focus your mind on. No matter how bad a situation is, there must be at least something good in the midst of all the madness that you can hold on to. Recently, I interviewed the clinical director of a counselling agency and she was talking in general about how a client may come in and say “I want to be happy”. Okay, so the first thing the counsellor would usually ask is “have you ever felt happy before?” They get the client to think back to find a happy experience which is then used as a reference point to walk towards. It’s the same principle… THINK ON THESE THINGS.

Do you know it’s possible to wake up and your day is ruined even without speaking to anyone just because of what you were thinking before you stepped your foot of the ground? I once heard someone say the devil is already waiting by your bed side bidding for your mind and so is the angel of the Lord so you have to decide who wins.

What’s your thinking like? If you get the revelation that by the end of the week, you would get exactly what you think of the whole week, what would you focus your thoughts on?

Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse…

God bless you

And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. But when Jesus saw her, HE CALLED HER TO HIM and said to her, “WOMAN, YOU ARE LOOSED FROM YOUR INFIRMITY.” And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God (Luke 13:11-13 NKJV).‎

There’s a lady in my church who’s so full of life; she’s so funny, has a captivating personality and is so huggable that every time I see her, I can’t help but hug her and tell her how much I love her and that can be 3 times in one hour.

However, I was telling my mum how you would never have known she was the like because the first time she came to our church, she was bent over. She was literally walking with the aid of a walking stick. She battled with her health and other problems and no offence but she looked like an old woman. Now, she looks so different… pretty and all and to be honest, it’s hard to reconcile both sides of her. It’s one of those before and after cases… and I’m not just talking physically. I’m also talking spiritually and emotionally.

Isn’t it sad to see what problems can do to ‎people? Bend them over!! But then my mum reminded me of this woman that was bent over for 18 years until her encounter with Jesus who looked at her and said… WOMAN, YOU ARE LOOSED FROM YOUR INFIRMITY.

Who would have thought that after 18 year, a day would come when she would stand straight? But I like that Jesus… CALLED HER TO HIM‎… which reminds me of the Scripture where He says…‎ “Come to Me, all of you who… carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28 NLT).

COME TO ME, ALL OF YOU WHO ARE… A sister was telling of a healing programme she attended this past week and how every colour and nationality was there and I reminded her that pain has no colour (NOR GENDER).

Here, Jesus gives a warm invitation to ALL who are bent over with heavy burdens. This woman was already in church so we’re not talking of an outsider and it would surprise you how many people are in church and still bent over but a Scripture I hold so dearly says… IT IS FOR FREEDOM that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again… (Galatians 5.1 NIV).

It is for freedom and not for bondage… so I must experience this freedom… a case where you walk in bent over and leave for home standing straight.

What has got you bent over? ‎Today, Jesus is saying “come to Me… bring the load… self-pity… bitterness, unforgiveness will not help you … Let it go… so you can travel light”

People are waiting to experience the real you!!!

God bless you

Good [Righteous] people take advice from their friends [or show the way to their friends/neighbors], but an evil person is easily led to do wrong [or the path of the evil person makes them wander] (Proverbs 12:26 EXB).

I’ve found that most times, we love our friends to tell us what we would love to hear but a true friend will tell you the truth. I remember a dear sister of mine telling me I wasn’t a good friend because she came to my house to tell me that she thinks her marriage was over because of so so so and I told her to get out of my house and go and sort her issues out. At the time, I just separated from my ex-husband and so I told her… listen… I’ve got plenty of room in my house for you. I could easily advice you to move in so we could be in the same boat but no way… that’s not what a true friend does.

She always used to come with issues expecting me to take her sides but you always have to have a voice of reasoning in your life. She later came to thank me for it but last week, she had a chance to get me back and oh my God… she punched me so hard in the stomach with the truth I really didn’t want to hear but definitely needed to hear and I was like… triple OUCH!!! However, nobody else could have said it the way she said it. I drove off with her words ringing and ringing in my ears and by the time I woke up the next morning, I had to send her a message thanking her and she was like… oh girl… wake up from your slumber and I’m like… easy now!!!! I heard you the first time.

I’ve found that when it comes to friends, the Lord has striped me down to the bare minimum so I value every relationship I’ve got now and I definitely value being told the truth because I can handle it.

What kind of friends have you got in your life? Have you got the ones that tell you what you want to hear or the ones that tell you that you are simply acting a fool? Some time ago, I read this on someone’s social media page and felt that it was so true. They said “some of you don’t have haters. You just have people telling you the truth you don’t want to hear!!!!”

When you are around people that are constantly full of your praises, be careful. You need people that can stand in your face and say… you are simply just acting a fool.

The Bible says… wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy (Proverbs 27:6 NLT).

What kind advice are your friends giving you?

God bless you

Before the spies went to sleep that night, Rahab went up on the roof to talk with them. “I know the Lord has given you this land,” she told them. “We are all afraid of you. Everyone in the land is living in terror. For we have heard how the Lord made a dry path for you through the Red Sea when you left Egypt. And we know what you did to… the two Amorite kings… whose people you completely destroyed. No wonder our hearts have melted in fear! No one has the courage to fight after hearing such things. For the Lord your God is the supreme God of the heavens above and the earth below (Joshua 2:8-11 NLT).

‎I read this and what came to mind was… What your enemies know that you don’t know. Can you imagine what were on the spies minds as they went to spy the land? Going to face the unknown is always daunting and that’s why the Lord would always say fear not… Be strong, bold and courageous… for I will be with you.

The funny thing is that the enemy still tried to intimidate them… the king of Jericho sent orders to Rahab: “Bring out the men who have come into your house, for they have come here to spy out the whole land.”(Joshua 2:3 NLT)

So, what do you want to do? Didn’t Rahab just say that… We are all afraid of you‎… our hearts have melted in fear! No one has the courage to fight… so what do you think you want to do when you clearly know it is the Lord fighting the battle for them?

This is pure intimidation and that’s how the enemy tries to inject us with fear so he can paralyse us but it’s all a game. We are told later on that… the gates of Jericho were tightly shut because the people were afraid of the Israelites. No one was allowed to go out or in (Joshua 6.1 NLT).

We can clearly see that the enemy was afraid. You have got to realise that your enemies already know the Lord has given you that land‎ so don’t let them use intimidation, fear, doubt, and whatever tactics they have up their sleeves. Your attitude should always be surely… “the Lord has given us the whole land,”… “for all the people in the land are terrified of us.”(Joshua 2:24 NLT)

Remember, the Lord says… no one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you… I will not fail you or abandon you. “Be strong and courageous… (Joshua 1:5-6 NLT).

You also need to know who you are in Christ. Remember what the evil spirits told the seven sons of Sceva…‎ Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?(Act 19.15 AMP)

Do you know who and whose you are?

God bless you

24. April 2015 · Comments Off on NAKED AND NOT ASHAMED BEFORE THE LORD · Categories: Grace, Jesus Christ, Mercy, Relationship, Restoration, Sin, Thoughts, Worship

…the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship Him that way (John 4:23 NLT).

Recently, someone sent me the following message;

Reading Created and Formed for a purpose and what comes to mind is NAKED AND NOT ASHAMED… My prayer is may I also be like this in the presence of My maker.

Hmmm… I was telling another friend about my recent conversation with God during my time of worship which goes along the lines of… “Lord I know I’m meant to come bowing my head in worship but I’m not feeling very spiritual right now. I just want to have an honest conversation with You… If I were to have things my way… this is how I would like them to happen and I’m not going to lie, if it comes to choosing my will versus Your will, though I’m going to have to end up choosing Your will, it’s going to hurt so bad. However, I’m aware that it’s definitely my flesh talking right now so I need You to help me get out of this carnal mind-set…”

My friend was like wow… ‎such honesty… and I’m thinking… but there’s no point putting up an appearance before God who sees and knows all. Didn’t King David say.. I’m an open book to You; even from a distance, You know what I’m thinking… You know everything I’m going to say before I start the first sentence (Psalm 139: 2,4 MSG)?

So, during that period, here’s an excerpt from another daily devotional that my spiritual mum sent me… something she’s never done before…

“What did Jesus mean by saying we must worship God in TRUTH? According to the BDAG Greek-English lexicon of New Testament, the root word for truth in this verse is alēthia, which means ‘hiding nothing’.

To worship God in truth means that we are to come before Him hiding nothing! It means that we must bear all to the One who sees and knows all. That we should come as we are, allowing our stained hearts to be made white as snow in the presence of our holy God who dwells in unapproachable light. God is not looking for us to be religious and He certainly knows all about the rebellion in our lives that we try to hide… He knows… He knows… He knows… and… He calls us to a vulnerable, honest faith. To worship Him in humble awareness of our depravity, but with a sacred awareness of His grace and unfailing love that binds us to forgiveness, restoration, healing, peace, hope and joy”.

Hmmm… The Samaritan woman was trying to get very religious and talk about where to worship but Jesus said away with that… let’s talk about the truth because you can’t hide anything from Me.

Today, God is looking for people that will worship Him in spirit and in truth… so why not come before Him hiding nothing.

God bless you

23. April 2015 · Comments Off on PULLING THROUGH THE MESSY MIDDLE · Categories: Jesus Christ, Marriage, Patience, Perseverance, Relationship, Reward

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm (Ephesians 6:13 NLT).

Yesterday, I resumed college after 3 weeks break and while we were all excited to see each other again, we all admitted that we were struggling to keep going and in counselling, it’s what we call the messy middle; the point where you feel… I don’t think I can do this anymore.

As with most things in life‎, we tend to go through 3 stages; beginning, middle and ending.

The beginning is when we’re really excited and enthusiastic about starting something new; new job/career/course or even a relationship. The ending is when things comes to an end and you can finally say I made it. Like Apostle Paul said… I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7 NIV). Even Jesus said… I brought glory to You here on earth by completing the work You gave Me to do (John 17:4 NLT).

However, there’s the messy ‎middle where even Jesus struggled to pull through… “Father, if You are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from Me. Yet I want Your will to be done, not mine.” Then an angel from heaven appeared and STRENGTHENED Him (Luke 22:42-43 NLT).

The messy middle is when people get bored, confused, fed up… It’s when your character is tested and it would take real perseverance to pull through. That’s the opportune time the devil comes back (Luke 4:13).

Back to my course experience; the only thing that’s keeping us going is that we’ve already been warned about the messy middle. It’s the middle wall you have to push through and it’s likened to a woman in labour who has to push… push… push. That’s when we have to dig deep to find reserves.

There’s normally avoidance in middle but it’s important to attend to the middle. The difference between those that make it to the end is that they push through this phase. Like someone said, when you hear people say they’ve been happily married for 50 years, everybody admires them but what they don’t tell you about is this messy middle… when both parties are saying “I don’t think I can do this anymore… I just feel like entering my car driving off and never looking back but hey… I’ve got to do what I’ve to do to pull through this phase”.

It’s the same with our Christian race. ‎Moments would come to try your faith but I like that Jesus said… I have prayed for you… that your faith may not fail… (Luke 22:32 NIV)

Is this where you are right now? If so, remember that after you’ve done all to stand, STAND FIRM using every piece of God’s armor.

Turn to the Lord for renewed strength (Isaiah 40:31).

God bless you

It is better to live in a corner on the roof than inside the house with a quarreling [contentious] wife (Proverbs 21:9 EXB)

I read this yesterday and immediately remembered ‎listening to a famous preacher thank his wife live on Trinity Broadcast Network only a few days ago. He said “thank you for making our home a place where I can hear from God and prepare for my preaching”… something like that and I was like… Oh… that’s so sweet!!! No wonder she’s always by your side and you would always hear him say no one does it like she does.

That’s indeed something to be appreciative of because some of us women can be something else.

His wife was about to address wives of pastors and leaders from all works of life about bringing it back to the centre where you are securely anchored in the Lord; where Jesus is the centre of it all instead of being pulled from every direction. That’s the only way you can stay sane.

“Stop all the foolishness”‎ she said. “Stop letting your mind run riot‎… capture [your] rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5 NLT). How can he hear from God if there’s no peace in the house?” And I’m like… tell them ma’am. LOL

Perhaps that’s why he has to go to the roof top to try and get some peace but then we read further on in the chapter that…‎ It is better to live alone in the desert [in a desolate land] than with a quarreling [contentious] and complaining [angry] wife (Proverbs 21:19 EXB)…. LOL… she probably came to meet him with her trouble on the roof top and this time the text says she’s quarreling and complaining so he decided to move to the desert.

Hmmm… I remember my brother telling his wife “let’s not even decide to agree for loves sake. Let’s just agree so our prayers can pass the roof of this house and be heard by God. After all Jesus said… “If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, My Father in heaven will do it for you (Matthew 18:19 NLT).

What are you doing to your home? A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands (Proverbs 14:1 NLT). Are you wise?

And I’m sure all the husbands would make sure their wives read this today… “Honey, come and read this… The word from the Lord today is for you”. Hmmm… what about you? If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone (Romans 12:18 NIV).

And as for you singles… this is the time ‎to work on your character and ‘mouth’. Perhaps the Lord is waiting for you to tame it before He bring you to him. Grace is what is needed… so let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will… find grace to help us when we need it most (Hebrews 4:16 NLT).

God bless you

“The older brother was angry and wouldn’t go in. His father came out and begged him, but he replied, ‘All these years I’ve slaved for you… and in all that time you never gave me even one young goat for a feast with my friends. Yet when this son of yours comes back… you celebrate… “His father said to him, ‘Look, dear son, you have always stayed by me, and everything I have is yours…’”‎ (Luke 15:28-32 NLT).

Every Sunday after church, we have what we call fellowship of tables where we come together to have tea and light refreshments. We also use it as a time to minister those that need prayer and counselling and it’s mostly for new babes not old mamas like me.

Usually I’m up and about serving like Martha or like the prodigal sons older brother who was always at home with daddy so this past Sunday, as I watched ‎as my spiritual parents were calling people to their office to attend to them, I kept on saying to their hearing… “what would it take for me to get some attention? Should I do what the prodigal son did?”

LOL… Growing as a mature Christian has its advantages but then it means you’re sometimes caught up in just serving… giving and giving and it feels like you are no longer receiving and if you stay there long enough without having someone pour back into you, you soon become like the prodigal’s sons brother… very miserable.

Anyway, my moaning worked. After attending to everyone, they came for me and I’m thinking… what have I done now? However, daddy said we just want to spend some time showing you love and I’m like… I was only joking (well kind of) but if you insist…

Anyhow, as I sat down, daddy Bishop started telling me of how God just wants me to know how He loves me ‎and as he said that, mummy prophetic said it’s funny you just said that because God is saying “if only you knew how I love you”…. and I’m like YES!!! I so needed to hear that right now… me and my imperfect self… but then, the Lord went on to say “it’s not about you but about what I deposited in you even before you were born”.

Hmmm… It’s the best feeling in the world when God reaffirms His love for us because there are times when we just get caught up in ‘DOING’ or in our imperfections or in my case, going round the Porters wheel again where you feel all kinds of emotions and the spinning around makes you just want to throw up. But I tell you… there’s a kind of confidence that comes when you hear Daddy‎ saying He loves you.

Perhaps that’s what you need to hear today… that God really loves you. Don’t feel neglected. If because of God’s love He..‎. did not spare even His own Son but gave Him up for us all, won’t He also give us everything else? (Romans 8:32 NLT).

God bless you
