… And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years… When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind Him in the crowd and touched His cloak, because she thought, “If I just touch His clothes, I will be healed.” Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering (Mark 5:24.-29 NIV). ‎

I once heard the story of a pastor who said some people traveled all the way to where he lived requesting prayer for an emergency case in the hospital. “Is that why you came all this way?” He asked. “Okay, go back. By the time you get to the hospital, the case would have been resolved”. He told them with all confidence. However, he said that immediately they left, he ran up to his prayer closet and in desperation cried out to the Lord saying… “Lord you said we should call on you in the day of trouble… today is that day… please help me”. But the Lord said… “Didn’t you just tell them to go back to meet the case resolved?” “Well… that’s what I’m meant to tell them but I now need you to show up”, he replied.

What am I trying to say? He’s seen as a well-known powerful man of God but he has no secret weapon. He still had to go to the same God that we all have access to.

The woman with the issue of blood got her breakthrough because she decided she was not going to wait for Jesus to come to her‎. Jesus was busy with someone else… One of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus… pleaded earnestly with Him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.” So Jesus went with him (Mark 5:22-24 NIV).

On their way, this nameless woman stepped out in faith and Jesus… said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you… (Mark 5:34 NIV). On the other hand, the man that was waiting for Jesus to come and lay hands on his daughter got the following message… “Your daughter is dead”… (Mark 5:35 NIV)

Yes, Jesus eventually got there and resurrected her but reading this I thought to myself that some of the dead situations we end up with today is because we don’t believe our problems can be resolved without one great man of God laying hands on us. Now, I’m not saying that laying of hands is bad though you should be very mindful of whose hand it is. My point is that you need to get to that place where you feel you too can catch Jesus’ attention.

This unclean woman wasn’t even supposed to touch Jesus but she decided… I’ve got to do what I’ve got to do to touch Him‎… even if it’s just the hem of His garment and she got healed. So why should yours be different? Reach out for Jesus today. He is waiting for your touch.

God bless you

“How much bread do you have?” He asked. “Go and find out.” They came back and reported, “We have five loaves of bread and two fish.” Then Jesus told the disciples to have the people sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in groups of fifty or a hundred. Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces, He kept giving the bread to the disciples so they could distribute it to the people. He also divided the fish for everyone to share. They all ate as much as they wanted, and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftover bread and fish. A total of 5,000 men and their families were fed (Mark 6:38-44 NLT).

I think it’s amazing how over and over again we have cases in the Bible where people that think they don’t have anything end up realising what they needed was right there under their noise. This was the case with the widow of Zarephath who was getting ready to eat her last meal with her sons and die (1 Kings 17:7-16) and the poor widow who thought she had nothing but a little oil (2 Kings 4:1-7).

I once heard a joke about a man that was raided at night by armed robbers‎. Immediately they got into the house, calling out the amount they were after, they started shouting… Where’s the money? I can’t remember how much it was but it was a huge sum. On hearing the amount, the owner of the house jumped up and joined them in their search. Really? I have that kind of money in this house and I don’t know about it. Where’s the money?

LOL… Where’s the money?

Late in the afternoon His disciples came to Him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away so they can go to the nearby farms and villages and buy something to eat.” But Jesus said, “You feed them.” “With what?” they asked. “We’d have to work for months to earn enough money to buy food for all these people!” (Mark 6:35-37 NLT)

Hmmm… ‎That’s the kind of mindset a number of us have but it’s not about what you don’t have. Rather, its about what the Lord can do with what you’ve got and that’s what we need to focus on…“How much bread do you have?” He asked. “Go and find out.

Do you know what you have? The Lord wants to bless it so… Go and find out. If you didn’t have anything, the enemy (the thief who comes to steal, kill and destroy) won’t be after you this bad. I didn’t know I had anything until the Lord broke me.

People are hungry for what you already have. The Lord says… Ask Me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know…(Jeremiah 33.3 NLT).

God bless you

26. February 2015 · Comments Off on BE GLAD JESUS WANTS TO USE YOUR BOAT‏‏‏ · Categories: Change, God's Plan, Jesus Christ

Jesus… saw two boats drawn up by the lake, but the fishermen had gone down from them and were washing their nets. AND GETTING INTO ONE OF THE BOATS, [the one] that belonged to Simon (Peter), He requested him to draw away a little from the shore. Then He sat down and continued to teach the crowd [of people] from the boat (Luke 5:1-3 AMP).

Reading this, my first reaction was… why me? Jesus could have chosen any boat but He decided on Peter’s boat. He didn’t really need the boat. He could have just walked on water‎ which would have caught more attention but He chose Peters boat.

Peter had toiled all night without success and for me, the beauty of this story is that while he was toiling, Jesus was watching him. Matthews’s account of the story says… As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake… (Matthew 4:18 NIV).

This simply tells me that Jesus sees you were you are and knows what you are up to; He sees your struggles and knows exactly what you need to get you out of that fruitless life.

Why would you choose my boat? If you’ve followed Peter’s story, you know he was a character. He himself knew that. That’s probably why… he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” (Luke 5.8 NIV)

Peter must have felt… “You’ve chosen the wrong boat” but Jesus knew what He saw in Him and must have felt… with a change of name and spending time with Me to work on you, you would soon go from SIMON to PETER… and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it (Matthew16:18 NIV).

There may come a time when Jesus would intentionally step into your boat. Don’t be deceived; it can be one of the scariest things because He would mess with everything that you thought you were holding on to. How else can you explain Him giving you the biggest breakthrough of your life one minute and then asking you to give it all up to follow Him the next minute?

And then the next minute, it’s get behind me Satan… ‎Okay, thank You sir. I was only trying to show I care. So now, am I your friend or am I the devil?

Hmmm… When Jesus gets into your boat, He would mess with everything you think you knew. He would so work on your character to change you which sometimes hurts and humbles you but be glad because when He has finished with you, you would be standing where you never expected to be standing… Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd… (Act 2.14 NIV).

Has Jesus stepped into your boat? Don’t resist. Rather be glad and embrace the process.

God bless you

25. February 2015 · Comments Off on STRENGTH FOR THE LAST LAP‏‏ OF THE BATTLE · Categories: Uncategorized

Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:31 NKJV).

Recently, I watched the movie “The Life of Pi”; a story of a young boy who was travelling with his parents from India to Canada by sea but unfortunately experienced a shipwreck. With parents dead, he survives 227 days after the shipwreck while stranded on a lifeboat in the Pacific Ocean with a tiger.

He struggled to make it to the end after devising a strategy to ensure the tiger didn’t have him for dinner while he himself was starving. However, with the end in sight, he made this profound statement… “By the time we reached the Mexican shore, I was afraid to let go of the boat. My strength was gone. I was so weak. I was afraid that in two feet of water, so close to deliverance, I would drown…”

Hmmm… the water was shallow. Only two feet… that was the safest part of his journey but his strength almost failed him. I had previously listened to a preaching on the topic but watching the full movie actually drove the message home. The toughest times in life are not at the beginning of the fight. Then you’ve still got energy. However, when you’ve been in an intense battle for too long, your strength starts to fail you.

After been hit, one blow after another, if not careful, you begin to give in to the little things. The great prophet Elijah ran away from a girl after the great battles he had won… Elijah was afraid and ran for his life… He came to a broom bush, sat down under it AND PRAYED THAT HE MIGHT DIE. “I HAVE HAD ENOUGH, LORD,” HE SAID. “TAKE MY LIFE; I am no better than my ancestors.” (1 Kings 19:3-4 NIV)

Same thing with Samson. After many battles, he too said Lord… “LET ME DIE with the Philistines!” Then he pushed with all his might, and down came the temple on the rulers and all the people in it. Thus he killed many more when he died than while he lived (Judges 16:30 NIV).

Unrelenting battles have a way of draining you but… that is why you need to [For this reason,] put on God’s full armor. Then on the day of evil [persecution generally or end-time tribulation] you will be able to stand strong [keep your ground; resist the enemy]. And when you have finished the whole fight [after you have done/accomplished everything], you will still be standing (Ephesians 6:13 EXB).‎

The end is in sight. Don’t give up now. Why not pray for the Lord’s strength and grace to keep standing?

God bless you

Wait [Be quiet before] and trust [wait for] the Lord. Don’t be upset [worried; angry] when others get rich [with the prosperity/success of their way] or when someone else’s plans succeed [or they do evil deeds] (Psalm 37:7 EXB).

“Wait! Wait! Wait! I’m tired of hearing wait especially when I look around me and others that I decided to leave behind to follow the Lord wholeheartedly seem to be prospering and all I hear is wait”. If that’s what you are saying, I hear you and I’m sure the Lord hears you loud and clear too.

However, I was having a chat with someone recently and they said the grass is not always greener on the other side. I said most definitely, we can ask Naomi. When her family decided to leave their homeland because of famine (Ruth 1:1-2), the people they were leaving behind may have been envious and I’m sure on many occasions when they were really starving, they must have pictured how Naomi was enjoying some juicy steak. It wasn’t until they saw Naomi coming back from a distance and out of excitement they called out “Naomi, is that you?” that she said…. “Please… please… please… “Don’t call me Naomi,”… “Instead, call me Mara, for the Almighty has made life very bitter for me. I went away full, but the Lord has brought me home empty. Why call me Naomi when the Lord has caused me to suffer and the Almighty has sent such tragedy upon me?” (Ruth 1.20-21 NLT)

Naomi and her family where in a land of bread but because of a temporary famine, they decided to leave Bethlehem for Moab, an exceedingly ungodly place but it wasn’t the best decision. Naomi later heard there was food in Bethlehem‎ so had to come back but it was without her late husband and two sons. If only they had waited…

Waiting for the Lord’s timing is always the best option. ‎There’s a saying that “the patient dog eats the fattest bone”. Patience being the keyword here. David said… Wait for [Hope in] the Lord and follow Him [keep/guard His way]. He will honor [exalt] you and give you [you will inherit] the land, and you will see the wicked sent away [or destroyed] (Psalm 37:34 EXB).

He went on to say… I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what He has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord (Psalm 40:1-3‎ NLT).

Are you prepared to wait for God’s timing? Those who you think are prospering now will see what He will do and be amazed.

God bless you

23. February 2015 · Comments Off on THE EXPECTED END IS SURE‏ · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Patience

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an EXPECTED END (Jeremiah 29.11 KJV).‎

Have you ever received a word from the Lord but then what followed is nothing like the word you received? I’ve been thinking about this very popular verse recently with particular focus on the last two words… EXPECTED END.

The EXPECTED END… Many of us have an expected end we are waiting on. When God gives you a word, you are definitely looking forward to the end result. However, one week, two weeks, five weeks, five years, ten years goes by and you are still waiting. If it’s just the waiting, then that won’t be so bad but when all hell is breaking loose in your life‎ at the same time, then it becomes something else to deal with. You are then left thinking… Lord, what is going on? What about your promise? What are You up to? You may even think the Lord is against you when you think of some of the things He has allowed to happen to you because we always blame Him for everything‎.

However, it is at such times you need to hear these very precious and reassuring words from the Lord saying… it may not look like it right now but it’s still going to happen for… I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.

The Lord knows what He is doing. You have just got to trust Him and not rely on your own understanding of the situation. Whatever you are facing right now, ‎you need to hear these words today. He still has good and may I add great thoughts and plans towards you. You just have to wait for the appointed time.

I know…unrelenting disappointment leaves you heartsick…‎(Proverbs 13:12 MSG) … but what would see you through this period ‎is drawing really close to the Lord and seeking His face like never before.

The Lord says… “When you call on Me, when you come and pray to Me, I’ll listen. “When you come looking for Me, you’ll find Me. “Yes, when you get serious about finding Me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed.” God’s Decree…‎ (Jeremiah 29:12-14 MSG)

22. February 2015 · Comments Off on THINGS ARE WORKING OUT FOR YOUR GOOD · Categories: God's Plan, Healing, Hope, Jesus Christ, Restoration, Testimony, Trusting God

We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose (Romans 8:28 AMP).

Yesterday, I held my most humbling ‘meeting by the well’ with a young lady from Uganda and her adopted family. Since I met this lady, I’ve had to rethink my life because when you think you’ve had a hard life and nobody can ever top your story, God sends someone your way so you can stop complaining. This is somebody that had to watch 20 family members including parents and siblings killed in front of her and I’m thinking how have you coped? I still can’t get over the death of my own brother.

Things have happened to this young lady that I can’t even begin to share but the thing is that immediately we met, there was an immediate connection and in just a few minutes, she started to pour out her heart to me and yesterday she was sharing how she’s never done that with anyone. She felt like we had a divine connection. The answer was YES. I had already told her that I don’t know what it is but for some reason, it seems the Lord wants me to work with you. Since the beginning of this year, He has placed Uganda in my heart and I’ve had dreams of working with young girls to bring healing and restoration and show people who are hurting so badly the love of God in practical ways.

To cut a long story short, the Lord wants to use this lady and everything she’s been through (both, the good, the bad and the ugly) to reach out to others like her. She said she’s got an admission to read medicine but still can’t understand how she’s put that aside and found herself seated in our counselling class. Well… I know. That’s God. We are told that… The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord (Psalm 37:23).

She’s been in counselling herself for so many years and she said when she started reading my book, she couldn’t stop (yes, that’s an advert for my book – go get a copy). She’s now at that place where she needs to let go of everything she’s been through (the heartbreaks, disappointments etc.) and learn how to use her experience to minister to others… and I’m thinking… Wow… she’s the reason why the Lord made me write my book.

The Scripture says… We are assured and know that all things work together and are fitting into God’s design plan. No experience is wasted with God and the words of Joseph comes to mind… you thought evil against me, BUT GOD MEANT IT FOR GOOD, TO BRING ABOUT THAT MANY PEOPLE SHOULD BE KEPT ALIVE… (Genesis 50:20 AMP).

Can you see God working in your situation?

God bless you

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect (Romans 12:2 NLT).

I just got back from the very beautiful Dubai city. While there, as I was chatting with my daughter about something via whatsup, she said “you guys might find favour” and I proudly replied back saying… “We’ve already found favour”.

YES… The hotel we stayed in checks new guests at 2PM but our flight arrived very early in the morning. I already knew this was going to be an issue so while in London, I tried to change the check-in time but got no response‎. A friend that recommended the hotel said there’s no way they would allow us check in before time because they are very strict with their rules. She said the only thing they would do is to keep our luggage and show us where to freshen up. So, the plan was to drop our luggage and then hit the streets until it was time to check in.

However, when we arrived, I told mum that though I’ve heard how they operate but let’s wait and see what happens when they see ‘Grace’ (which happens to be my mum’s name) and ‘Favour’. Hmmm… to be honest, it just sounded like a very spiritual thing to say at the time but you won’t believe that when we got to the hotel they checked us in. We didn’t even have to ask. The receptionist said though the check-in time was 2PM, we could check-in now.

Wow… It worked!!!. Not just that. We joined them for breakfast. He gave us a discount as well. They indeed recognised ‘Grace’ and ‘Favour’. I started singing “favour is my name…” I couldn’t wait to tell my friend.

The song ‘It’s Working’ by William Murphy comes to mind… “This is my season for grace for favour… God is leaning… in my direction…”

It worked… All it took was knowing ‎who we were in Christ, recognising the privileges that comes with that relationship and proclaiming it. The other thing I started to think about is how we’ve allowed ourselves to become so bound by systems and traditions of this world that we put boundaries on how God can work in our lives. However, all our so-called tradition is doing is making God’s word of no effect (Mark 7:13).

We’ve got to think differently to see ourselves differently. The Lord supplies our needs according to His riches (Philippians 4:19) and not according to the world systems. Also… the king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord… He turns it wherever He wishes (Proverbs 21:1)… and that’s in my direction.

Isn’t it time you start seeing yourself differently? Remember… You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9 NKJV)

God bless you

Then [Immediately] the Spirit sent [drove; compelled] Jesus into the desert [wilderness]. He was in the desert [wilderness] forty days [analogous to Israel’s forty years] AND WAS TEMPTED [OR TESTED] BY SATAN [AS BOTH ADAM AND EVE AND THE NATION ISRAEL IN THE WILDERNESS WERE TEMPTED, BUT FAILED]. He was with the wild animals [dangerous or perhaps Eden-like conditions], and the angels came and took care of [served; ministered to] Him (Mark1:12-13 EXB)

I like how this translation of the Bible specially spells out how Jesus Christ was able to do what man failed to do. It does this with particular reference to Adam ‎and Eve’s scenario in the Garden of Eden and then that of the Israelites.

Unfortunately, Adam and Eve fell for the first temptation that came their way. As for the Israelites, where do I start? Is it the ‎complaining, the lack of trust, the worshiping of other gods? Then not to ‎talk of you and I today. However, Jesus did it. He came down so He could identify with us. Yes, He got tired, He got angry, He struggled, but He conquered and He is our living example that as far as we stay focused on Him as our mentor, utilising all the resources He has made available to us, we too can do it.

If we had the opportunity to be mentored by someone who has already been where we want to go, wouldn’t we grab‎ the opportunity with open hands? Here, we have an even greater offer. The Bible tells us that… we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, YET WITHOUT SIN. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:15-16 NKJV).

I like the way the Message translation puts it… We don’t have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He’s been through weakness and testing, experienced it all—all but the sin. So let’s walk right up to him and get what He is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.

Jesus is definitely not out of touch with our reality. That’s why He is offering us mercy. That’s why He is offering us grace. That’s why He is offering us the help that we need; all as a package deal. Most of all, we have the Holy Spirit to help us. Therefore let us come boldly… let’s walk right up to Him and ASK HIM HOW HE DID IT. The more conversations you have with Him about your struggles, the more you are bound to find help.

Jesus, how were you able to still accept Peter after he denied You? How were You able to stay silent as they accused You of all sorts? How???

God bless you

A few days later, when Jesus came back to Capernaum, the news spread that He was at home. Many people gathered together so that THERE WAS NO ROOM IN THE HOUSE, NOT EVEN OUTSIDE [NEAR; IN FRONT OF] THE DOOR. And Jesus was teaching them God’s message [speaking the word to them]. Four people came, carrying a paralyzed man. Since they could not get to Jesus because of the crowd, they dug a hole in the roof right above where He was speaking… When they got through, they lowered the mat [cot] with the paralyzed man on it (Mark 2:1-4 EXB)

How any times have you given up and turned back at the first sign of opposition? I found it interesting that we are told that… THERE WAS NO ROOM IN THE HOUSE. If that’s the case, so where did the four men find the space in the same room to place the paralyzed man when they lowered him down from the roof? Surely, they couldn’t have placed his mat on top of Jesus’ head. They must have found some space in the room.

I’ve found out that there’s always room for the determined… for those that have radical faith and have decided that things definitely have to change. And it does not matter how many people get there before you… your space is reserved somewhere waiting for you to push your way through. When I was interviewed for my last job, I remember the lady calling me back to say that they had filled the two positions they were looking for but because they were so impressed by a project I had shown them, it gave them ideas and they created a new position for me to do a specific job.

Jesus was moved to action when He saw their radical faith and they got what they came for. The guy would have probably remained paralysed the rest of his life if they decided to turn around and go back home because of the crowd? I’m sure that there were people that turned back for the same reason… THERE WAS NO ROOM IN THE HOUSE…

Also, isn’t it interesting to read that there was a huge crown‎ there but we only get to hear of this man’s case? What happened to the others? We are told that… the man jumped up, grabbed his mat, and walked out through the stunned onlookers. They were all amazed and praised God, exclaiming, “We’ve never seen anything like this before!” (Mark 2:12 EXB)

Stunned onlookers… They were just watching. Hmmm…

The other thing is that this man surrounded himself with people that were not just wishing that he got better but they were committed to doing everything they could to ensure he got to the place of his breakthrough. These are the people that would equally refuse to accept NO for an answer.

Who are‎ you surrounding yourself with? Have you all got radical faith? Or are they saying… let’s go back home?

God bless you
