“Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you: A prophet to the nations— THAT’S WHAT I HAD IN MIND FOR YOU.” (Jeremiah 1:5 MSG)

THAT’S WHAT I HAD IN MIND FOR YOU… Today, I have a simple question to ask you. Do you know that everyone was created by God for a purpose? Are you doing what the Lord had in mind for you when He thought of creating you? Have you ever sat down to ask yourself whether you are really doing what the Lord created you for? Could that be the reason why you are so miserable? Could that be why you are finding it so difficult? Could that be the reason why like Jonah, you feel locked up (trapped) in the belly of a fish? You find that it takes a lot for you to get out of bed when it’s time to go to work.

Hmmm… I remember the time Jesus was tired and hungry so He sent His disciples to go get Him some food. However, they were surprised that He was no longer hungry for the food He sent them to get but then, while they had gone Jesus met a woman whom He set free from her bondage and so… Jesus said to them, My food (nourishment) is to do the will (pleasure) of Him Who sent Me and to accomplish and completely finish His work (John 4:34 AMP).

Jesus was a problem solver and found fulfillment from it. Are you the solution to peoples problems. Could it be that it’s because you haven’t discovered that thing which you were created for that’s why you are so hungry and nothing you do can satisfy you?

Also, I was thinking to myself that if everybody functioned in the purpose for which God created them; partaking in His plan to redeem the world, would there be so much trouble in the world? Just pondering

What’s my purpose you may ask? I don’t know but God knows… I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen (Jeremiah 29:11-12 NLT).

God bless you

So they spread this bad report about the land among the Israelites: “The land we traveled through and explored will devour anyone who goes to live there. All the people we saw were huge. We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak. Next to them WE FELT LIKE grasshoppers, AND THAT’S WHAT THEY THOUGHT, TOO!” (Numbers 13:32-33 NLT).

NEXT TO THEM WE FELT LIKE GRASSHOPPERS, AND THAT’S WHAT THEY THOUGHT, TOO… Every time I remember this story, I always find it amusing. The truth is that most times, we (and not the enemies we see in front of us) are our worst enemies.

Okay, so are you in the minds of other people to know what they are thinking about you? Please notice they didn’t say “THAT’S WHAT THEY SAID, TOO”. They said “THAT’S WHAT THEY THOUGHT, TOO. But my question is how did they know that’s what they were thinking? Isn’t it funny how we sometimes reduce ourselves to nothing just because of what we think other people are thinking of us?

What do you think people think about you? Does it really matter? I must confess – for a very long time I was a slave to WHAT PEOPLE THOUGHT… but not anymore. I found my identity in Christ and what He thinks of me is what’s important.

What makes you think they think you’ve made a fool of yourself? Or that they think you are no good. Or they think you are rubbish? It’s all in your head! The real problem is not how people see you but how you see yourself.

Next to them WE FELT LIKE grasshoppers. ‘WE FELT’… is a feeling and as Christians we shouldn’t pay attention to those negative feelings like… fear… intimidation, worthlessness etc.

The Lord knew they were facing giants. It wasn’t a surprise to God but He said go and take over the land anyway. This was because He wasn’t sending them out in their own strength and I like how two of the men responded… Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh… said to all the people of Israel, “The land we traveled through and explored is a wonderful land! And if the Lord is pleased with us, He will bring us safely into that land and give it to us…. Do not rebel against the Lord, and don’t be afraid of the people of the land. They are only helpless prey to us! They have no protection, but the Lord is with us! Don’t be afraid of them!” (Numbers 14:6-9 NLT)

Hmm… some saw giant’s while some saw HELPLESS PREYS. What made the difference? THE LORD IS WITH US!!! Your confidence should come from the Lord. Only then would you know that you are more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37) and that’s what people think of you.

God bless you

During my short visit to Africa, I remember the day some mobile policemen stopped us. I had some errands to run so after dropping my friend’s sister at the office, she kindly allowed her driver to take me around town.

Unfortunately, we got stopped by these policemen who sure knew how to intimidate people with their guns. They got into a heated argument with the driver and one thing led to another and they asked one of the armed men to enter the car and take us to the station.

I tried to intervene but something I said to try and lighten the mood made them even angrier. They started shouting; take them to the station… take them to the station. At that point, knowing all the terrifying news I’ve heard about their notorious activities, I quickly called my friends sister. Hearing all noise in the background, she asked where we were and quickly rushed down with a colleague to meet us.

When she arrived, she asked what the problem was but instead of answering directly, they kept on shouting. They were definitely trying to intimidate her. I say what is the problem? You want to see the owner of the car; here I am. However, they went on and on…take them to the station. But then she said those words… I BE LAWYER O (meaning please know that I’m a lawyer). Don’t start what you can’t finish. If we go to the station, we would follow this matter to the end, she said.

My God… I could not believe what happened next. The same man that was shouting on top of his voice, immediately calmed down. He quickly took a look at the guy that accompanied her standing there calmly without saying a word. He too was a lawyer. My friend started asking them questions about their own identity and their car and what right they had to be there stopping people. Hmmm… I tell you; the whole story changed.

Now, that’s someone that knows who she is, knows her right and the authority she carries and thinking about it now, I wish as Christians, we all knew the authority we carry. The devil would know not to mess with us. Remember the evil demons said… Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?” (Acts 19:15 NIV)

My friend didn’t stop there. She turned to her driver and started to have a go at him. Why didn’t you respond to them nicely? Even my father that is a retired general; when they stop him, he responds nicely. Obviously, she said that to make the policemen know she’s not one to be messed with. I AM NOT JUST A LAWYER. MY FATHER IS A…

Hmmm… What am I trying to say here? That’s the kind of authority all believers should display… Those who know their God… You, dear children, ARE FROM GOD AND HAVE OVERCOME THEM, BECAUSE THE ONE WHO IS IN YOU IS GREATER THAN THE ONE WHO IS IN THE WORLD (1 John 4:4 NIV).

God bless you

28. July 2014 · Comments Off on DON’T LET THE ENEMY STEAL YOUR PRAISE · Categories: Action, Agreement, Deliverance, Freedom, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Joy, Laughter, Obedience, Praise, Restoration, Thanks giving

I remember when I lost my brother. It was about a month before my 40th birthday. It actually fell on a Saturday so I had always said I was going to celebrate it in combination with my marriage celebration/re-dedication. However, before the time came, my marriage broke down so I felt there was no point in marking the day at all. But then the Lord gave me a word; ‘Exodus 3:8 fulfilled’. I then decided that I was going to have a special thanksgiving to the Lord for sparing my life from death so many times; one that would make the enemy mad. It was also to mark a new beginning.

Anyway, everything was planned and the countdown began only for my brother to die. That was it. I was definitely not going ahead with my plans but then I heard the Lord say clearly… SO DOES IT MEAN THAT BECAUSE YOUR BROTHER DIED YOU ARE NO LONGER GOING TO THANK ME FOR YOUR OWN LIFE?

Enough said! I called my immediate family together and told them I was still going ahead even if I was the only one present on that day. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I don’t need to tell you the trouble I got from people… extended family… his friends and the like. How can you go ahead after just burying your brother? You’ve brought shame on the family… bla… bla… bla… I had many enemies because of it. Many boycotted the event but excuse me!!!! Who are you to speak when the Lord has spoken? I was not about to nullify the word of God by your tradition (Mark 7:13).

Why am I sharing this? On Saturday, during my meeting by the well, though I didn’t plan to, the Lord led me to share this testimony. Unknown to me, there was a lady there that lost her son and then after that lost her mother. The Lord has since blessed her with another son who is almost one. She was planning to celebrate his birthday. They had the invitation cards ready but the devil had started messing with her mind. What is there to celebrate after losing your son and mother? She became so reluctant to send out the cards and was contemplating cancelling until she heard my story.

But isn’t that what it’s all about. Satan wants to remove celebration and laughter from our lives.

What about this young innocent child? Does he have to be deprived of his own joy? I immediately remembered Jabez. His mother named him Jabez [sorrow maker], saying, because I bore him in pain (1 Chronicles 4:9 AMP). The mum allowed her sorrow to determine the course of his life until he took a stand.

This lady was encouraged by my testimony and decided to break that stronghold the devil was building in her mind.

Listen; Never allow the enemy steal your praise… They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony… (Revelation 12:11 NIV)

God bless you

“Who touched me?” Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.” But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.” (Luke 8:45-46 NIV)

I remember attending a Christian event one day and the praise and worship session was something else that it made me wonder how it would be like in heaven. I could hardly contain myself. I felt like exploding. However, the next day someone told me that a few women were talking about the event in a salon and they were basically complaining about the praise and worship. I think they said it had to be the worse they had ever experienced. I was so surprised that I had to ask details of the event to make sure that it was the same one I attended and it was indeed. Really? You can bet those women went home from that event the same way they came.

Immediately the above text came to mind. It was a typical example of how a crowd could gather around Jesus and not many actually touch Him. This is because we are either busy judging people’s performance instead of focusing on what the Lord is doing. Or it could be that we have a particular mind-set of how things should be done. Naaman is a typical example. He was given the opportunity to be healed… but Naaman went away angry and said, “I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy (2 Kings 5:11 NIV).

It could also be that we think we’ve got it all together and the word that was shared was not for us. Afterall, who is Jesus anyway…. “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother’s name Mary, and aren’t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? (Matthew 13:55 NIV)

All throughout the Bible we hear of people who missed or delayed their time of visitation but this woman with an issue of blood was different. She made up her mind that she was not even going to wait to hear Him preach… for she kept saying to herself, If I only touch His garment, I shall be restored to health (Matthew 9:21 AMP).

The interesting thing is that she wasn’t even on Jesus’ agenda that day. Jesus was on His way for another ministration but she seized her opportunity and she was made whole… Jesus… said, Daughter, be of good comfort; THY FAITH HATH MADE THEE WHOLE. And the woman was made whole from that hour (Matthew 9:22 KJV).

This woman’s focus was on Jesus and not what was going on around her and her life was never the same again. Are you set out to touch Jesus? Or do you think you KNOW BEST? Please… DON’T MISS YOUR OPPORTUNITY FOR A MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH.

God bless you

Speaking to her daughter-in-law… Naomi said, See, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods; return after your sister-in-law. And Ruth said, Urge me not to leave you or to turn back from following you; for where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people and YOUR GOD MY GOD. Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also, if anything but death parts me from you. (Ruth 1:15-17 AMP).

Have you ever wondered why Ruth was able to make such a statement? The Message translation says Ruth said… “DON’T FORCE ME TO LEAVE YOU; DON’T MAKE ME GO HOME…

I mean think about it. There was nothing attractive about Naomi’s situation. Her husband and two sons (including Ruth’s husband) had all died but there must have been something that Ruth saw in Naomi that attracted her to her God.

Ruth was what we would call in today’s terms an unbeliever. She was one of the people of the world. She was not born again. On the contrary, she came from a people that worshiped idols. But somehow, she got married into a Christian family and I can only guess that in her new home, she experienced what it meant to be a true Christian. Her mother-in-law must have shown her that… all other gods… they are the works of man… But You are the most high God… there is none like You. (LOL…Do you know that song?)

I read in one commentary that… “the conduct of one Israelitish woman [Naomi] in a foreign land was able to call forth a love and a confession of God like that of Ruth….”

Naomi lived in a foreign land surrounded by everything contrary to everything that was pleasing to God… a land full of sin and idol worshiping but she was still able to stand out and win a soul based on her character and conduct even when slapped in the face by serious adversity. Has anyone ever looked at you and asked… what is it about you? There is definitely something about you. Please let me in on the secret. I mean we are meant to attract people to the Lord. There should be some sort of magnetic force that should make people say… YOUR GOD WILL BE MY GOD

Jesus said… You are the light of the world… Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven (Matthew 5:14;16 AMP).

God bless you

The Lord is in His holy temple; the Lord is on His heavenly throne. He observes everyone on earth; His eyes examine them (Psalms 11:4 NIV).

One of the prayers I learnt from my spiritual parents which I have recently started to pray a lot is…. Father Lord… from the realm of what You know, deal with this issue. I found that this is a powerful prayer because no matter how anointed and wise you think you are, your knowledge is limited. We may not always know what is really going on around us and most times, we deal with situations based on the way they are presented to us. As a result, we tend to pray amiss.

Let’s look at the case of Jacob; If only Jacob knew that his son Joseph was not actually dead, he won’t have lived the most part of his life in misery mourning for his son. But he went by the facts that was presented to him and jumped into the wrong conclusion.

We are always too quick to react based on what we see or hear. We come in contact and communicate with people on a daily basis. They smile at us. They say things but we don’t know what is really true and what is false. We even assess people based on what we see. However, there is a lot of deception going on. But even putting deception to own side, the Lord knows the outcome of every situation and things that may appear brilliant now may turn out to be very dangerous later so we need to be careful. That lady or guy that looks like a wife or husband material today may turn out to be a real wolf in sheep’s clothing. Not to talk of who you thought was your best friend.

You are asked to… Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and He will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV).

There’s nothing like when you hand over your whole life to God and say…Father Lord… from the realm of what You know, please deal with every issue concerning my life. Trust me; as far as you are obedient to His voice, you can’t do wrong… If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; (Psalm 91:9-11 NIV)

24. July 2014 · Comments Off on ROUTINE SPIRITUAL AND EMOTIONAL CHECK-UP · Categories: Jesus Christ, Relationship, Repentance, Spiritual Growth, Thoughts

We often go to our doctors for routine check-ups to make sure that everything is well with us. Well, some don’t. They say what you don’t know won’t harm you but in some cases, it can. However, the sensible ones do. You want to know… Doctor… is everything okay with me?

This should also apply to our spiritual and emotional well-being. However, many people fail to do this self-examination. But one of the things I tell my daughter is that in ministry, I am my first congregation member because you can’t give out what you don’t have. What this means is that I have to continually bring myself before the Lord, and like David say… Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends You, and lead me along the path of everlasting life (Psalm 139:23-24 NLT). Is there any unforgiveness in me? Is there any malice, bitterness or jealousy in me? And off course a prayer that we grew up with… Lord please forgive me of any sin that I have committed knowingly and UNKNOWINGLY.

This is very important because just like cancer, there are things that can be growing inside it’s victim for months and not produce any outward symptoms to alert them that it has taken root inside until one day, they find themselves seating in the doctor’s office with a bad medical report.

There are so many reasons why we need to do a spiritual and emotional check-up. First of all… There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death (Proverbs 14:12 NIV). For me, even when I think I’m right, I always have to bring whatever the matter is before God… please let me know if I am wrong in this matter.

Secondly, Kind David said… If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened (Psalm 66:18 NLT). This could be a hindrance to answered prayers.

Jesus also said when we pray we should add… and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven (left, remitted, and let go of the debts, and have given up resentment against) our debtors (Matthew 6:12 AMP). Hmmm… Isn’t that serious. So you see why it’s important to recognise any unforgiveness in your heart. The Luke Gospel says ‘sins’ instead of ‘debt’… Can you imagine if the Lord really deals with us the way we deal with others? Scary!

Are you in need of a spiritual and emotional check-up today? The word of God should always be our first point of reference… For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart (Hebrews 4:12 NIV).

The New Living Translation says… IT EXPOSES OUR INNERMOST THOUGHTS AND DESIRES.

God bless you

Okay, so yesterday I had to go to one of the cemeteries in the borough which I work for to check out their IT system used in the back-end office.

As I was seating at the reception waiting for my appointment, this guy came in to ask for the ashes of a family member that had just died and had been cremated. After a few minutes of going through the paper work, one of the staff came out with a beautiful gift bag. She gave it to the guy and he went on his way. The gift bag was very pretty indeed but I couldn’t help thinking of its contents. Somebody’s whole life reduced to ashes and carried in such a small bag.

So many questions started running through my head. What kind of person were they? What kind of life did they live? How many possessions did they have? May be they had a very nice house (or houses), car (or cars)? What? However at the end of their life, they were carried out in a small gift bag that even a one year old child can lift up. So is that all?

The first question that came to mind was; Lord… what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? (Psalm 8:4 NIV). Apart from Christ in me, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27), I am just dust (ashes).

The second question that came to mind was … What is it all about? We spend the best part of our lives struggling over stuff but Solomon, one of the richest men that ever lived said… I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind (Ecclesiastes 1:14 NIV).

Also, the great Apostle Paul said… Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ (Philippians 3:8 NLT). He also said… For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain (Philippians 1:21 NIV). He had the right perspective and I think there are moments when we really need to slow down and think… WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT? WHAT’S IT REALLY ALL ABOUT?

Jesus said… “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?… But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well (Matthew 6:25,33 NIV). It shouldn’t be the other way round.

God bless you

22. July 2014 · Comments Off on IDENTIFYING THE REAL CULPRIT · Categories: Jesus Christ, Restoration, Revelation

We know the story of Leah and Rachel. They were sisters who found themselves in a predicament and spent the most part of their lives fighting each other over the same husband. However, after very many years of bitter rivalry, it got to the point when they finally came to their senses. They eventually realised that all this while, it was their father that was the real culprit. They had been seriously exploited by their father and by the time Jacob, their husband let them in on his plans to run away from their father, they were both up for it.

They both said to Jacob… “Do we still have any share in the inheritance of our father’s estate? Does he not regard us as foreigners? Not only has he sold us, but he has used up what was paid for us (Genesis 31:14-15 NIV). How sad! The Message translation says… “Rachel and Leah said, “Has he treated us any better? Aren’t we treated worse than outsiders? All he wanted was the money he got from selling us, and he’s spent all that”.

There was definitely a feeling of betrayal going on here and while both sisters took it out on each other for a long while, they had to make peace in the end. At some point they had to let go of the bitterness towards each other and identify the real culprit. The meaning of the name Laban is: White, shining, gentle… I dare say his behaviour speaks otherwise… DECEPTION…

This is very thought provoking because I have personally seen worse family cases where for years, there has been war and one person keeps pointing the finger at somebody else to make people believe they are the one responsible for all the trouble in the family. However, while one finger is pointing to someone else, four fingers are pointing back at you.

We must know that Satan is a real expert at knocking heads together while he secretly carry’s out his plans, so it’s always important for you to always pray for the Lord to open your eyes to see what’s really going on around you.

As Jesus predicts His death, “Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!” [but] Jesus turned and said to Peter, “GET BEHIND ME, SATAN!”” (Mathew 16:23-23 NIV)

GET BEHIND ME, SATAN!… It was Peters lips that was moving but Jesus could hear satans voice. We should be able to do the same… Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices (2 Corinthians 2:11 KJV).

God bless you
