Have you ever been in a difficult position where you just think this is the end of me? You look at the situation and say to yourself… there’s no way I’m coming out of this. I’ve been there. I was once in a fire and with no way out; I found a little corner to seat in, said my last prayers and started singing praises. The fire brigade was called but with a massive riot taking place outside, i didnt think they would make it on time and even when they got to where we were, we had to wait until they broke the walls down. I tell you… that was the day I knew that the smoke from the flames could choke you to death even before the flames reach you. That day, I remember telling God… so after having several car accidents, its fire that would finally take me out. However, God forbid; He found a way to get me out of there. To Him be the glory.

Also, recently, a friend told me of a day she almost drowned. Not knowing how to swim, she said her last prayers, held her noise and started going down. She thought it was the end of her but from nowhere, a hand pulled her out. She said from where she was, it could only have been an angel.

Such was the case with Peter when he was locked up in jail. Knowing that James was executed only a few hours ago, he must have thought that there was definitely no way out. Perhaps he said his last prayers and went to sleep but… suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared… struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists… “…Follow me,” the angel told him. Peter followed him out of the prison, BUT HE HAD NO IDEA THAT WHAT THE ANGEL WAS DOING WAS REALLY HAPPENING; HE THOUGHT HE WAS SEEING A VISION. They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city. It opened for them by itself, and they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him. THEN PETER CAME TO HIMSELF AND SAID, “NOW I KNOW WITHOUT A DOUBT THAT THE LORD HAS SENT HIS ANGEL AND RESCUED ME FROM HEROD’S CLUTCHES AND FROM EVERYTHING THE JEWISH PEOPLE WERE HOPING WOULD HAPPEN” (Acts 12:6-11 NIV).

NOW I KNOW WITHOUT A DOUBT THAT THE LORD HAS SENT HIS ANGEL AND RESCUED ME… Are you currently in a tight corner and feel there’s no way out? Don’t worry… it would be like a dream when the Lord rescues you.

Remember… When the Lord brought back the captivity of Zion, We were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, And our tongue with singing. Then they said among the nations, “THE LORD HAS DONE GREAT THINGS FOR THEM.” (Psalm 126:1-2 NKJV)

God bless you

Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful (Mark 4:15-19 NIV).

I was listening to a story of little Johnny who kept falling out of the bed every night. His mum would hear a bang on the floor followed by crying and would have to run to his room to rescue him. However, one night he said; “mummy I’m tired of falling from the bed. I’m aching all over. But then his mummy said the reason why you keep falling out of the bed is because you don’t get far in enough. Stop hanging around the edges.

Stop hanging around the edges… That’s a word for somebody right there… The reason you keep going back to your old nature is because you’re not making any attempt to get far in.

Jesus talks about this parable where the farmer sows seed (the word of God) that falls on various grounds (the hearts of people that receive the word). The first group of people don’t even get anywhere because they just hang around the edges. As a result, Satan is quick to snatch away whatever they’ve heard.

The other two groups try to get far in but keep turning and tossing around in the bed because of trouble, persecution, the worries of this life and worldly desires. Before you know it, they are on the floor and are crying for someone to pick them up. They are never productive.

But there’s a final group that have decided that they are going to move far in; way pass the things that could bring them down. That’s because they know that they are temporary. These ones… like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.” (Mark 4:20 NIV).

You would find these ones resting in the corner, tucked right in… with Christ Jesus Himself as the chief cornerstone (Ephesians 2:20).

Are you still HANGING AROUND THE EDGES? A relationship with Christ is something that has to be experienced and unfortunately the troubles, temptations or worries don’t go away. You’ve just got to climb pass them to rest at that Corner. You’ve got to… taste and see that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8 NIV). You can’t taste by HANGING AROUND THE EDGES… Move in… Move in… Move in…

God bless you

As a true child of God, whenever your enemies gather to plot against you, do you know that they always forget that you have a heavenly Father watching over you that neither slumbers nor sleeps (Psalm 121:4)?

I was reading the story of Peter when he was locked up in prison and before I could even read far into the story, the word “INTENDED” jumped out at me. Herod had a plan of how he wanted to persecute Peter… After arresting him, he put him in prison, handing him over to be guarded by four squads of four soldiers each. Herod INTENDED to bring him out for public trial after the Passover (Acts 12:4 NIV).

His intention was probably to sentence Peter to death after the public trial but he was not able to carry out his plan. Why? Apart from the fact that Peter had a heavenly Father watching over him, in this case, Peter belonged to a praying church… Peter was kept in prison, BUT THE CHURCH WAS EARNESTLY PRAYING TO GOD FOR HIM (Acts 12:5 NIV).

I know you can pray on your own and I would strongly encourage you to develop a prayer life but honestly, there are times when strength would fail you or situations would frustrate your ability to pray, but when you belong to a church that has your back in prayer, you know that you are covered.

If you don’t belong to a church that really prays, then hmmm… I advise you to think twice. I hope you know that a huge part of Jesus’ ministry was spent on prayer?

The church prayed for Peter while Peter was sleeping; probably because he was too confident of his deliverance or he was just drained and became too tired (like me since I came back from Africa… Thank God for my praying church). But God was not about to let the enemies plan succeed… Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists (Acts 12:7 NIV).

Peter was free to go but the best part of the story was that both the guards (Acts 12:18-19) and Herod himself (Acts 12:23) were the ones that met their end.

Since God began to show me the battles I’m up against, He has given me this Scripture to hold on to… Indeed they shall surely assemble, but not because of Me. Whoever assembles against you shall fall for your sake (Isaiah 54:15 NKJV).

The New International Version says… If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing; whoever attacks you will surrender to you… This is my declaration for you this day in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ.

God bless you

One of my favourite songs by the Nigerian Gospel artist Sinach is “More of You”. It’s a very beautiful and simple song with wonderful lyrics. The chorus says… I want more of You Jesus… the more I know You… The more I want to know you… Jesus… More of You…

However, you must know by now that there are moments when I have to stop and ask myself… what does this actually mean? What do I mean when I say… The more I know You… The more I want to know you… Jesus…? What steps do I actually take to want to know Jesus more?

The story of Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch can help us out…

Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road… that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch… This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, AND ON HIS WAY HOME WAS SITTING IN HIS CHARIOT READING THE BOOK OF ISAIAH THE PROPHET. The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.” Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked. “How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him (Acts 8:26-31 NIV).

How many times have you left church with that kind of hunger for more of God’s word? I was listening to a pastor say he laughs at how many Bibles people leave behind after service and don’t come back for it. If it were their wallets, surely they would come back for it… but not their Bibles. That can wait till next Sunday. But this Ethiopian eunuch was returning from a worship service and because of his hunger for more, was found reading his Bible. As a result, Jesus chose to reveal Himself to Him…

This is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading: “He was led like a sheep to the slaughter… In His humiliation He was deprived of justice… His life was taken from the earth.” The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus (Acts 8:32-35 NIV).

Isn’t it amazing how Jesus would reveal Himself at your level? This man’s eagerness didn’t stop there… As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?” And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him (Acts 8:36-38 NIV).

Now, isn’t this asking for more? I want more of You Jesus… How hungry are you? What steps are you taking to want to know Jesus more?

God bless you

In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias!” “Yes, Lord,” he answered. The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.” “Lord,” Ananias answered, “I HAVE HEARD MANY REPORTS about this man and all the harm he has done to your holy people in Jerusalem (Acts 9:10-13 NIV).

I HAVE HEARD MANY REPORTS… Do you know the problem with many of us is that we hear too many reports? This person said this… that person said that… As a result, we don’t do what the Lord has asked us to do and we miss out on the outcome.

First of all, you need to know that everybody has a unique walk with the Lord and the grace and favour He might give to one person may be different to what He gives to another. So, if you are listening to that person’s report, you may just be doing yourself a lot of disservice.

Secondly, when the Lord gives you an assignment, be rest assured that He means it when He says… I will go before you and level the mountains [to make the crooked places straight]; I will break in pieces the doors of bronze and cut asunder the bars of iron (Isaiah 45:2 AMP).

In the case of Ananias, even before God sent Ananias on this special assignment, He had already put everything in place. All Ananias had to do was show up… The Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel (Acts 9:15 NIV).

When the Lord says go, He expects you to go. Those MANY REPORTS that you have heard are meant to discourage you from moving ahead but the simple question you have got to ask yourself today is… WHOSE REPORT WILL YOU BELIEVE?… To whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? (Isaiah 53:1 NKJV)

Ananias based his fear on an OUTDATED report. Could this be your case? We are asked to fix… our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith (Hebrews 12:2 NIV). He is the One that has the most UP-TO-DATE report.

God bless you

Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o’clock prayer service. As they approached the Temple, a man lame from birth was being carried in. Each day he was put beside the Temple gate… so he could beg from the people going into the Temple. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some money. Peter and John looked at him intently, and Peter said, “Look at us!” The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money. But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” (Acts 3:1-6 NLT).

Yesterday, I was thinking to myself that one of the greatest things that keep people bound is when they receive the wrong kind of solution to their problem or they receive what they think they want rather than what they really need. That’s bondage and in the case of this Crippled Beggar, it was over forty years of bondage (Acts 4:22).

Year in year out, he was carried out to beg for money and so that’s what he grew up to expect. And I’m sure that every time anyone approached the temple, he would start to pray that this one coming shouldn’t be stingy with their money. However, according to a friend, when you keep saying people are stingy, that’s not the real problem. The real problem is that you are a beggar. It’s very true. How do you know that guy is so stingy? It’s because you are always begging him for money. His stinginess is not the problem. You are a beggar and the reason why you beg is what should be dealt with…LOL.

Anyway, before I digress, Peter and John had to look at this man straight in the eye and say “begging for money is not what you really need… then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. And as he did, the man’s feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened. He jumped up, stood on his feet, and began to walk! Then, walking, leaping, and praising God, he went into the Temple with them (Acts 3:7-8 NLT). PROBLEM OF A LIFE TIME SOLVED…

During the meeting by the well on Saturday, a lady said that she was dealing with a generational problem with anger and she honestly thought she had to go for deliverance. However, after being real and dealing with some practical steps to work on her anger, she said she believed she received major breakthrough and it was not be laying of hands. Praise God. I believe the Holy Spirit has already begun to work in her life.

It’s very easy to find yourself trapped with a problem because you’ve been prescribed the wrong kind of medication. However, today my prayer is that God reveals the real solution to that PROBLEM OF A LIFE TIME.

God bless you

He showed [revealed] His ways to Moses and His deeds to the people [sons] of Israel (Psalm 103:7 EXB).

Recently, I was listening to someone say… “If you get anybody’s things, you’ve gotten the cheapest part of them… away with the notion that if you walk away with people’s stuff you get the most part. That’s cheap… the gift is nothing compared to the one who gave it to you”. When it comes to the things of God, yes we all want to be blessed, but “all of the people who fall in love with the gift and never fall in love with the Giver miss it because as long as you’ve got your hand out to God trying to get His gifts rather than to get His heart, you miss the power of the relationship”.

Job was a man that God blessed richly but it is clear to everyone that Job wasn’t after the gifts; that was an add-on; a package deal but Job said… I have esteemed and treasured the words of His mouth MORE THAN MY NECESSARY FOOD (Job 23:12 AMP).

A lady asked me the question… “How do you know whether you’re in a real relationship with the Lord” and amongst others things I said when you start to pursue and want to know who He really is. Then you’re not so interested in those “7 ways to receive your breakthrough” messages because indeed you limit the power of your relationship with God.

When you are in a marriage with someone and you took your wedding vows seriously, you know that come rain or sunshine, it’s for better for worse and whether we like to admit it or not, you get to know the real heart of people when you are going through tough situations together. It’s not everything about a person that romantic vacations reveal. When the going gets tough, then the real person behind the mask comes out.

It’s the sweet with the bitters and that’s why Paul said […my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection [which it exerts over believers], and that I may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness even] to His death, [in the hope] That if possible I may attain to the [spiritual and moral] resurrection [that lifts me] out from among the dead [even while in the body] (Philippians 3:10-11 AMP).

There are times when we’ve got to stop and think… “In my walk with God, what am I really after? THE GIFT OR THE GIVER…” The New Living Translation says… He revealed His CHARACTER to Moses and His DEEDS to the people of Israel.

CHARACTER or DEEDS… What’s it to be?

God bless you

Hey, I’m back home. TO GOD BE THE GLORY.

I’m not good at sleeping on planes so I thought I should watch a movie; ’12 years a slave’ by Steve McQueen. It was based on a true life story about a FREE African-American man working as a violinist with a wife and two kids who was kidnapped and then sold into slavery.

Two white guys deceived him by offering him a two-week job as a musician if he would travel to Washington, D.C. with them, but once they get there, while they were having dinner, they put something in his drink and then made sure he had too much to drink until he became very drunk. Unfortunately, this man woke up and found himself in a jail cell tied up in chains. He couldn’t believe what was happening to him. I’m sure he thought it was a joke at first and must have thought he was dreaming when the two guys that lured him walked in to his cell to break the bad news.

The one thing they wanted him to admit was that he was a slave, however he refused. He kept saying “I am a free man”. He was beaten mercilessly and that began his 12 years of horrific cruelty. But at every chance he got, he did not fail to let anyone that cared to know that he was a free man.

For 12 good years, that was the mind-set that kept him going as he struggled to stay alive and dreamt of his long-sought reunion with his family. If not for that, he would have caved in because he faced unspeakable torture. Luckily for him, that day eventually came. He couldn’t believe his eyes when someone that knew him came to his rescue. By the time he saw his family again, his young daughter was married with a son.

It was a very emotional movie but I was so blown away by his mind-set and began to think of us as Christians. Jesus has paid the price for our freedom but at times, we behave like we are still bound in chains due to sin, trials etc. but… it is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery (Galatians 5:1 NIV).

Though we are in the world, Jesus said that we … are not of the world.. (John 17:16 NKJV).. That’s the mind-set we should have as we pass through this world. Yes, we go through trials and tribulations but Jesus assures us that… in the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NKJV).

You must know who you are… Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect (Romans 12:2 NLT)

God bless you

22. June 2014 · Comments Off on RUNNING OUT OF OPTIONS · Categories: Action, Hospitality, Jesus Christ, Praise, Worship

Yesterday, I had my very first ‘Meeting by the Well’ outside of the UK and I must say, it was the best one to date. Questions were coming from everywhere and by the time it was over, I knew that virtue had gone out of me. I was drained.

‎There was a particular question a lady asked; how do you advise or support someone who has given up on waiting on the Lord? They have been praying and waiting on the Lord for a long and with no forthcoming answer, they just couldn’t be bothered anymore.

I came up with a number of things they could do but what I think was the most important (or should I say best advise) was to just focus on praising and worshipping God. There are times when words fail you and like Mary, all you can do is to fall down at the feet of Jesus and worship Him (John 11:32).

Also, the thing that fell down the walls of Jericho‎ was praise and nothing else. We are told that… When the people heard the sound of the rams’ horns, they shouted as loud as they could. Suddenly, the walls of Jericho collapsed, and the Israelites charged straight into the town and captured it (Joshua 6:20 NLT).

One final thing which the Lord just dropped in my spirit as I was typing this; the Shunammite‎ woman had given up on God but it was when she showed hospitality that her long lost dream of having a child was fulfilled (2 Kings 4:8-17). Same thing with Abraham; He showed great hospitality to the three men that came visiting and they left with a promise that God would visit his household (Genesis 18:1-15).

Are you running out of options? Why not try focusing on these and just‎ see what happens? As you do so, I pray that the Lord that raised Lazarus from the dead; the same Lord that made the walls of Jericho to fall down flat; the same God that gave the Shunammite woman and Abraham a child in their old age would also meet you at your point of need.

God bless you

A friend of mind has a maid that has been working for her for over two years. However, all of a sudden, her behaviour changed. We detect that there is definitely a boy involved because only a man has the ability to turn a young girls head upside down like that. That plus her funny movements. And we are like; been there, done it, have the tea shirt and nothing else to show for it.

This young girl was treated as part of the family. She was well taken care off and even recently went on holiday to Dubai with the family.

However, recently, she started coming up with silly reasons why she wanted to leave. She was begged, offered a raise and even offered that when it was time to get married, the whole thing would be taken care off; but no way.

The thing is that my friend really had great plans for her and I’ve known her for more than 20 years now so I know what I’m talking about. She was actually planning to relocate this young girl and her children to America before the end of this year. Who knows what would have become of her but she allowed impatience and momentary pleasure steal the prospects of her future away.

Off course, I started thinking… how many times have we walked away when we were so close to the things God has planned for us? And why? Same thing; Impatience, ‎momentary pleasure or satisfaction…

Also, I was telling my friend that at times its a curse. For no tangible reasons, we just walk away from a good relationship, ‎a good job, a good home. Satan would plan one small offence and magnify it in our minds until we can’t see beyond it.

Seriously, it takes patience, prayer and asking‎ for wisdom to stay in the path God has mapped out for us and I pray we have the grace and patience to wait on the Lord for His perfect plan.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV).
