And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (COUNSELOR, HELPER, INTERCESSOR, Advocate, Strengthener, and standby), that He may remain with you forever— The Spirit of Truth… you know and recognize Him, FOR HE LIVES WITH YOU [CONSTANTLY] AND WILL BE IN YOU (John 14:16-17 AMP).

I’ve just been on the phone for more than an hour speaking to someone about the vicissitudes of life and found myself kind of counselling them. They felt good afterwards and honestly, I also felt really good that they could come to me and so I’m thinking how the Holy Spirit must feel when we come to Him for counselling or do we not know that that’s one of His roles?

A COUNSELOR is a person trained to give guidance on personal, social, or psychological problems but no matter how great a counselor is, they are limited in knowledge. However, you have the opportunity to solicit advice and guidance from a more knowledgeable, all-knowing spiritual counselor. When you sit in front of a counselor, they normally just let you talk while they listen. That’s the process… you just open your mouth and TALK so if you are desperately in need of someone to talk to today please just open your month and say what you need to say and He would definitely get back to you with an answer.

Not just that… ever found yourself saying “I have no one to help me!”? Well you are wrong. The Holy Spirit is also your HELPER. A HELPER is someone who helps you fulfil a need; someone that is there to assist you. Other words for HELPER are AID, PARTNER but I like this one… PERSONAL ASSISTANT. Hmmm… the Holy Spirit… your PA. This PA would help you to make the best use of your time if only you ask Him. He would point you in the direction of physical help if needed. What help are you in need of today?

And then the Holy Spirit is an INTERCESSOR. Most times we run here and there looking for who to intercede for us but your first point of call should be to look inside of you. The Holy Spirit prays to God on your behalf because many times we do not know what to pray for. Like I said, as a counsellor, the Holy Spirit may seem quiet when counselling you but He is listening because… the Spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans (Romans 8:26 NIV) and comes back with a reply. It may be a Bible verse, a phone call, something said on TV or what your little 3 year old son says.

Can you imagine all that inside of you? FOR HE LIVES WITH YOU [CONSTANTLY] AND WILL BE IN YOU. All you need to do is PUT YOUR HAND ON YOUR BELLY and say… IT’S IS IN ME…

God bless you

On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty COME TO ME and drink. Whoever believes in Me, as Scripture has said, RIVERS OF LIVING WATER WILL FLOW FROM WITHIN THEM.” BY THIS HE MEANT THE SPIRIT… (John 7:37-39 NIV).

Most times there’s always the tendency to reach out to other things to fulfil our desires and needs but we often fail to realise what we carry on the inside so I feel it is worth exploring. The KJV says… OUT OF HIS BELLY SHALL FLOW RIVERS OF LIVING WATER. This is what Jesus promised us and BY THIS HE MEANT THE SPIRIT. Before Jesus was crucified, He said… I will ask the Father, and He will give you another COMFORTER (COUNSELOR, HELPER, INTERCESSOR, ADVOCATE, STRENGTHENER, AND STANDBY), that He may remain with you forever— The Spirit of Truth… you know and recognize Him, FOR HE LIVES WITH YOU [CONSTANTLY] AND WILL BE IN YOU (John 14:16-17 AMP).

So what’s inside of you?

A COMFORTER is someone that comforts, eases, reliefs and relaxes you. A COMFORTER is one that helps you to feel less worried, upset or frightened. Most times, people would reach out to various things to get this comfort and I’m not about to list them but you know what you resort to. For me it’s mostly food. I tend to turn to food to find some sort of satisfaction when I’m feeling down but we know the result of that; momentary satisfaction followed by a sense of guilt and a whole load of health related problems… it’s not always the devil responsible for those health problems you know .

It’s interesting when you do a Google search for COMFORTER that one of the first things you would see is a special type of blanket (quilts or duvets), filled with insulative material that gives you warmth. It is mainly used in cold countries and if you live in one, you know its value. Imagine that wrapped around you? Most times when it gets very cold, you can’t wait to get home and get under your duvet. But not just that, at times when you feel down, you just want to crawl in bed and with the lights off, cover yourself up from head to toe with your duvet, hoping that it would all go away and while it may help for a while, you can’t lie there forever.

However, everything you are looking for to give you relief is inside of you; OUT OF YOUR BELLY; which means you exchange worldly comfort, peace and joy for what has already been deposited inside of you. All you need to do is PUT YOUR HAND ON YOUR BELLY and say… IT’S IN ME… Holy Spirit… I need the kind of comfort that only You can provide.

God bless you

Yesterday, I talked about Joseph under the control of the Egyptian master but you don’t need to think too far back to find his daddy’s own experience. The Lord’s hand was also on Jacob but he had to serve Laban for many years until he decided enough was enough. He told Laban… “For twenty years I have been with you, caring for your flocks… “I worked for you through the scorching heat of the day and through cold and sleepless nights. Yes, for twenty years I SLAVED IN YOUR HOUSE! I worked for fourteen years earning your two daughters, and then six more years for your flock. And you changed my wages ten times! (Genesis 31:38-41 NLT)

Jacob had to decide that enough was enough but the enemy doesn’t give up that’s easily without a fight and I’m thinking of what Jacob’s generation to come (the Israelites) also experienced. After years of slavery and heavy bondage and even after the Lord’s intervention, Pharaoh still tried to play smart. Pharaoh told Moses… “I will let you go… but YOU MUST NOT GO VERY FAR… (Exodus 8:28 NIV)

YOU MUST NOT GO VERY FAR… Really? How does he try to do this? He refused to let their families go with them. Pharaoh told Moses… “The Lord be with you—if I let you go, ALONG WITH YOUR WOMEN AND CHILDREN!… No! Have only the men go and worship the Lord… (Exodus 10:10-11 NIV). Not only that… then Pharaoh summoned Moses and said, “Go, worship the Lord. Even your women and children may go with you; ONLY LEAVE YOUR FLOCKS AND HERDS BEHIND.” (Exodus 10:24 NIV)… Meaning… YOUR LIVELIHOOD… YOUR JOB… YOUR BUSINESS… would still be under my control.

But the good news is that Moses was adamant… Our livestock too must go with us; not a hoof is to be left behind… (Exodus 10:26 NIV) And I love how the Lord finally intervenes… Now the Lord had said to Moses, “I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt. AFTER THAT, HE WILL LET YOU GO FROM HERE, AND WHEN HE DOES, HE WILL DRIVE YOU OUT COMPLETELY (Exodus 11:1 NIV). And it sure came to past. After the Lord had dealt with Pharaoh… During the night Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Up! Leave my people, you and the Israelites! Go, worship the Lord AS YOU HAVE REQUESTED. Take your flocks and herds, AS YOU HAVE SAID, and go…The Egyptians urged the people to hurry and leave the country…(Exodus 12:31-33 NIV)

AS YOU HAVE SAID… meaning you have to determine in your heart that enough is enough and let the enemy know that he must let you go, your family and everything that pertains to you… ALL ROUND DELIVERANCE.

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. STAND FIRM, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery (Galatians 5:1 NIV)

God bless you

25. February 2014 · Comments Off on REFUSING TO BE UNDER THE CONTROL OF AN EGYPTIAN MASTER · Categories: Deliverance, Freedom, Jesus Christ

THE LORD WAS WITH JOSEPH SO THAT HE PROSPERED, and HE LIVED IN THE HOUSE OF HIS EGYPTIAN MASTER. When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did, Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned. (Genesis 39:2-4 NIV).

Looking at this story in church on Sunday, it was highlighted that though God’s hand was upon Joseph and he prospered, he had nothing to show for it because he was under the control of his EGYPTIAN MASTER.

Somehow, this happens to be the story of many Christians. There’s no doubt that God’s favour is upon your life but everything you earn goes to your employer… the government… or any other kind of EGYPTIAN MASTER and it doesn’t matter the title you’re given, A SLAVE IS SLAVE. It doesn’t matter whether you have the highest rank in the slavery profession; you’re still a slave under your master’s control. All Joseph’s sweat and long hours of labour; everything he made went to his EGYPTIAN MASTER.

We are told that… from the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, THE LORD BLESSED THE HOUSEHOLD OF THE EGYPTIAN BECAUSE OF JOSEPH. THE BLESSING OF THE LORD WAS ON EVERYTHING POTIPHAR HAD, both in the house and in the field (Genesis 39:5 NIV).

That scattered my little head because when I look back at the 10 years (one decade) I’ve been working for my current employer, I really need to do some reflecting. In fact, I had testified that same day that I had just finally finished paying off my student loan but in reality it took me the 10 years to do so. The government kept taking money from my salary; the payment never seemed to come to an end and every time they sent a statement, they had added interest… EGYPTIAN MASTER. By the time you add income tax and what we call National insurance deductions, the government has taken half of my money as a high earner according to them… EGYPTIAN MASTER. I laugh when people ask me what I do… LORD DELIVER US.

Same kind of system works if you have a mortgage… it takes almost a lifetime to repay… EGYPTIAN MASTER.

My pastor said something that challenged me. She said the very first staff meeting she attended, after all the deliberation, she asked if they could pray because she was not going to be in any environment where the Lord cannot take charge. Hmmm… you should have told me 10 years ago.

Why am I sharing this? It’s not too late to prayerfully break out of any area in your life that seems to be under the control of an EGYPTIAN MASTER… It is for freedom that Christ has set us free… (Galatians 5:1 NIV).

God bless you

24. February 2014 · Comments Off on THE LORD WON’T LET YOU FALL · Categories: Action, Grace, Help, Jesus Christ, Mercy, Relationship, Spiritual Growth

The Lord MAKES FIRM THE STEPS of the one who delights in Him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, FOR THE LORD UPHOLDS HIM WITH HIS HAND (Psalm 37:23-24 NIV).

Most Bible translations would read… the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord… but I always like to read different versions of the Bible because it helps me look at a text from different angles.

Are you able to picture the Lord’s hands catching you just as you are about to fall? If not, think of a baby learning to walk for the very first time. At some point, the parent has to let go so that the baby can practice walking on their own but they are always nearby to hold their hands when they start stumbling. Also, you would often see the parent stand at the other end stretching out their hands and bidding the baby to walk towards them and as the baby takes those steps, the parent is cheering them on, calling out their name… come on baby… you can do it. They are always properly positioned and never take their eyes of the child, waiting to reach out to the child just in case they fall or are about to fall.

In an attempt to MAKE THEIR STEPS FIRM, some parents would actually try and encourage the child to stand back up on their own and it’s only if they can’t that they would reach out to them. Whichever way, daddy or mummy’s hands are wide open. That’s what the Lord does with His children and that’s what this verse is talking about.

Now I look back at some of the things I struggled with when I first started my serious walk with the Lord and wonder ‘how was I ever able to overcome this and this and that?’ Then it was, ‘am I ever going to be able to overcome this?’ But I thank the Lord who is rich in grace and mercy, who would UPHOLD YOU WITH HIS HAND when you fall as He MAKES YOUR STEPS FIRM. The Amplified Bible translation says… Though he falls, he shall not be utterly cast down, for the Lord grasps his hand in support and upholds him.

Aren’t you glad you are in the hands of the Lord and not people? People would push you down, trample all over you then gossip about you. But again we thank the Lord that He said He… doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7 NLT).

Listen… this isn’t the time to give up. The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again… (Proverbs 24:16 NLT). The Lord looks at the heart and as He sees your genuine effort to stand up right, He would MAKE FIRM YOUR STEPS.

God bless you

23. February 2014 · Comments Off on THAT STRANGE DESIRE · Categories: God's Plan, Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ, Joy, Peace, Relationship, Restoration, Revelation

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He also has planted eternity in men’s hearts and minds [A DIVINELY IMPLANTED SENSE OF A PURPOSE WORKING THROUGH THE AGES WHICH NOTHING UNDER THE SUN BUT GOD ALONE CAN SATISFY], yet so that men cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end (Ecclesiastes 3:11 AMP).

I was sharing in my meeting yesterday that it does not matter whether you believe that there is a God or not but when God created you, He placed a desire for Him in your heart that looks beyond this world; a desire that only GOD ALONE CAN SATISFY and except you are privileged to experience Him, you would keep on trying to satisfy that desire with everything this world has to offer. In this world, there’s a lot of deception presented to us to try and fill the voids in our lives. We tend to build relationships with money, business and career, TV, sex, power, drugs, alcohol, food, FACEBOOK… you name it. All in the bid to fill that void but these things only give immediate and temporary satisfaction… temporary fulfilment, joy, peace, happiness… and all we are left with is LONELINESS… EMPTINESS…BROKENNESS…

Someone then asked… how then do you know that it’s this strange desire you are trying to fill? and I like the way the Message Bible translates Ecclesiastes 3:11… True, God made everything beautiful in itself and in its time—but He’s left us in the dark, so we can never know what God is up to, whether He’s coming or going. Truly, I think you can’t know anything about God apart from what He reveals to you.

The Samaritan woman had that desire in her and was searching for answers. We know this from what she said… “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I WHO SPEAK TO YOU AM HE” (John 4:25-26 NKJV). Immediately she found Him, her search was over. She left her waterpot. She didn’t need to come to the well any more.

The Lord reveals Himself and what He is up to only in parts. However, He has revealed a lot of Himself in the Bible and has left us with the Holy Spirit. In the Old Testament, He spoke to His people through prophets. In the New Testament, Christ spoke face to face with His people and He promised a way to speak to us after His departure…. the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you (John 14:26 NIV)

Do yourself a favour. Pick up your Bible and ask the Holy Spirit to teach you. Jesus wants to reveal things to you. He wants to fix the LONELINESS… EMPTINESS…BROKENNESS… LIVING WATER is what you need (John 7:37-38).

God bless you

22. February 2014 · Comments Off on GROWING STRONGER DESPITE THE OPPOSITION · Categories: Jesus Christ, Victory

There was a long war between the people who supported Saul’s family [the house of Saul] and those who supported David’s family [the house of David]. The supporters of David’s family [David] became stronger and stronger, but the supporters of Saul’s family [house of Saul] became weaker and weaker (2 Samuel 3:1 Expanded Bible).

Now, whether we like to admit it or not, we have an enemy that constantly wages war against us and he uses normal (well, some not so normal) people like the people you see every day to contend with you as we’ve seen in the case of David and Saul.

How did this battle between Saul and David begin? After David killed Goliath, people started to sing his praises but when Saul heard, he became very Jealous. Like they say, ‘jealousy is the root of all evil’… but wait a minute… I thought it was money? I wonder where we got that from? Anyway, Saul wasn’t a happy man after that. Can you imagine? a whole king jealous of little David. But the thing is when the hand of God is upon your life, the devil doesn’t see you as small. He sees you as a threat to his kingdom. Saul became angry and felt… what more can he have but the kingdom? And Saul [jealously] eyed David from that day forward (1 Samuel 18:8-9 AMP). The NIV translation says… and from that time on Saul kept a close eye on David.

I remember doing a write-up last month on ‘THE EYES THAT ARE ON YOU’. You would be surprised. But the good news is that regardless of all Saul plots, the house of Saul became weaker and weaker. Do you not know it takes a lot of energy to plot evil? On the other hand, the house of David became stronger and stronger. I believe it was because he waited on the Lord to fight his battles and you know… those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength… (Isaiah 40:31 NKJV)

Does it seem like you’ve been engaging in a long war between the enemy and his cohorts? …Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes (Psalm 37:7 NIV)… The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them; but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for He knows their day is coming (Psalm 37:12-13 NIV). Like Saul, they would soon disappear.

I always like to see any challenge the Lord allows to come my way as training… you have a chance to work your spiritual muscles in order to become stronger and stronger. The house of David became STRONGER and STRONGER despite strong opposition while their enemies became WEAKER and WEAKER meaning it was a process. It does not matter how long…this will be your testimony to the glory of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

God bless you

Now from the sixth hour (noon) there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour (three o’clock). And about the ninth hour (three o’clock) Jesus cried with a loud voice, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?—that is, My God, My God, why have You abandoned Me [leaving Me [helpless, forsaking and failing Me in My need]? (Matthew 27:45-46 AMP)

This is a word for somebody feeling very forsaken right now…

Is this how you feel? Well, you won’t be the first? I always say if Jesus who knew the beginning from the end could crack under such pressure, then who am I? But that is why… we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet He did not sin. (Hebrews 4:15-15 NIV). Carrying the heavy burden of our sins on His shoulders and with the intense pain that He was feeling, it became too much for Jesus and with no help in sight, He cried out in despair…My God, My God, why have You abandoned Me.

But the good news is that we know for a fact that God had not abandoned Him and neither has He abandoned or forsaken you. Funnily enough, there are things that we may just have to go through to prove to the doubters that truly and… “Surely He was the Son of God!” (Matthew 27:54 NIV)

I love the verse that says …DAVID ENCOURAGED HIMSELF IN THE LORD HIS GOD (1 Samuel 30:6 KJV). When it seems like there is darkness everywhere and His face cannot be found, this is what king David would have to say… Yes, though I walk through the [deep, sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I will fear or dread no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort me (Psalm 23:4 AMP).

Please know today that… The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18 NIV). He has not forsaken you so… Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God (Psalm 42:11 NIV). Go on… ENCOURAGE YOURSELF IN THE LORD YOUR GOD.

Spend the whole of today and the rest of the weekend praising and worshiping the Lord and watch how your spirit lifts up… watch the darkness give way to light.

God bless you

20. February 2014 · Comments Off on IT’S BECAUSE OF THE WORD YOU RECEIVED · Categories: Faith, Jesus Christ, Seedtime and Harvest, Spiritual Growth, Words

Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes BECAUSE OF THE WORD, they quickly fall away (Mark 4:16-17 NIV).

Have you received a word from the Lord? Are you wondering why all the persecution? Why all the trouble? Well… you’ve just read it… it’s because of the word you received. Do you know that there was a time when I doubted whether I was a real Christian? However, after I went through want I went through and found that I was still able to hold on to the Lord even when there was no reason to, when it seemed like He wasn’t even real; trust me, now there’s no devil in hell that can whisper those words in my ears anymore. I know that I know that I know that I am a true Christian. I was not quick to fall away and the devil was not able to steal the word of God prophesied over my life.

Persecutions, troubles and trials would always come to test the word you have received but that’s not the time to fall away. The Amplified Bible says… they immediately are offended (become displeased, indignant, resentful) and they stumble and fall away. There are some people you see in church today but after only a short time, you don’t see them again. I wonder what happened to them? Have you ever told the Lord that if He doesn’t come through for you, you would stop going to church; you would stop serving Him? I believe that’s one of the things this passage is talking about but the Bible says… If you fail under pressure, your strength is too small (Proverbs 24:10 NLT).

Jesus said the soil was shallow, meaning it had little depth. Now the question you need to ask yourself is if you are shallow. If so what do you plan to do about it? Trials would definitely come to test the word you received from the Lord… do not be amazed and bewildered at the fiery ordeal which is taking place to test your quality, as though something strange (unusual and alien to you and your position) were befalling you (1 Peter 4:12 AMP). It shouldn’t be strange at all because if the devil could tempt Jesus, then who are you?

But you are to… resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast (1 Peter 5:9-10 NIV).

Please do everything to remain standing. It’s only for a while. Soak yourself in the word. Remember, FAITH COMES BY HEARING.

God bless you

19. February 2014 · Comments Off on WHEN YOUR PEOPLE BRING YOU DOWN · Categories: Intercession, Jesus Christ, Prayer, Self Control, Wisdom, Worship

Then the Lord said to Moses, “GO DOWN, because your people, whom you brought up out of Egypt, have become corrupt (Exodus 32:7 NIV).

I am still on Moses’ case…

I was thinking about this… isn’t it sad to be around people that always bring you down? Here’s a man that has been up on the mountain for days having a close encounter with God. It was a much needed encounter in order that he could effectively lead God’s people. When you occupy such a position, you want to ensure that you are able to receive clear instructions for your family, ministry or any kind of leadership position you find yourself in. It could even be that you are not in any kind of leadership position but are the one standing in the gap for your whole family so that they can be saved and come out of the bondage they’ve been in for years.

It is a necessity and a privilege to be high up there with the Lord. However, people keep dragging you down. The time you should be spending seeking the face of the Lord is spent trying to resolves quarrels and all the foolishness that goes on around you.

So what are we to do when we find ourselves in such a position? Let’s see… Though the Lord told Moses to go down and leave Him alone, Moses was wise. He didn’t move an inch. Rather than run around after the people trying to resolve their problems, he stayed put and we are told… Moses pleaded with the Lord… (Exodus 32:11 NKJV). It was only after the Lord relented he went down. The only thing Moses failed to do was pray for himself. He should has asked the Lord to give him the strength to control himself as he was about to deal with those stiff necked people. Maybe he would have been able to control his temper.

That said, one devise of the enemy is to bring about distractions so we lose focus but we should not be ignorant of his devices. We see this with Martha. Overwhelmed with all the work that needed to be done, she cried out in frustration but Jesus put her straight… “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—OR INDEED ONLY ONE. MARY HAS CHOSEN WHAT IS BETTER, AND IT WILL NOT BE TAKEN AWAY FROM HER.” (Luke 10:41-42 NIV)

It’s the beginning of the year and many people started it with fasting or doing whatever they need to do to seek the Lord’s face. Hmmm… If the Lord has asked you to come up higher, don’t let people drag you down… stay were you are and ask the Lord for wisdom to deal with their issues when you come down.

God bless you
