31. December 2013 · Comments Off on ONCE SAVED… ALWAYS SAVED… REALLY? THEN I’M CONFUSED · Categories: Grace, Jesus Christ, Salvation

There’s this school of thought that says ‘once saved always saved’. For some reason, I don’t seem to get it. I am obviously not an expert but when I read what the Bible says, it leaves me confused as to why people say… once saved always saved… For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them (2 Peter 2:20-21 NKJV).

I didn’t write it. So it is in the Bible. Peter is talking of people whom have known Christ but then turned to their sinful ways. On the same topic of salvation and the day of the Lord’s return, he goes on to say…

Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; … as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, WHICH UNTAUGHT AND UNSTABLE PEOPLE TWIST TO THEIR OWN DESTRUCTION, AS THEY DO ALSO THE REST OF THE SCRIPTURES (2 Peter 3:14-16 NKJV).

Like someone said, you can’t preach Paul and leave out what James and Peter wrote about. There’s a reason God put all of them in the Bible… to balance things out.

The following is taken straight from my study Bible… “Paul emphasized salvation by grace, not law, while Peter preferred to talk about Christian life and service… The false teachers intentionally misused Paul’s writings by distorting them to condone lawlessness. NO DOUBT THIS MADE THE TEACHERS POPULAR, BECAUSE PEOPLE ALWAYS LIKE TO HAVE THEIR FAVOURITE SIN JUSTIFIED, but the net effect was to totally destroy Paul’s message. Paul may have been thinking of teachers like this when he wrote in Romans 6:15: “SINCE GOD’S GRACE HAS SET US FREE FROM THE LAW, DOES THAT MEAN WE CAN GO ON SINNING? OF COURSE NOT!” Peter warned his readers to avoid the mistakes of those wicked teachers by growing in the special favour and knowledge of Jesus. The better we know Jesus the less attractive false teaching will be”.

The thing is that I don’t think the Lord would accept the ‘my pastor told me so’ answer on judgement day so like Peter warns… I am warning you ahead of time, dear friends. Be on guard so that you will not be carried away by the errors of these wicked people and lose your own secure footing. Rather, you must grow in the grace and KNOWLEDGE OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST… (2 Peter 3:17-18 NLT).

God bless you

I was sharing with someone the other day about a very great miracle that I heard the Lord used a man of God to perform recently. In their response they said, “that’s the kind powerful miracles they want to be able to perform”. I don’t know but somehow I detected that something was not right about their statement. Maybe it’s the way they said it. I immediately reminded them about the conversation Jesus had with His disciples.

Jesus sent them out ahead of Him and… when the seventy-two disciples returned, they joyfully reported to Him, “Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!” “Yes,” He told them…Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you. BUT DON’T REJOICE BECAUSE EVIL SPIRITS OBEY YOU; REJOICE BECAUSE YOUR NAMES ARE REGISTERED IN HEAVEN.” (Luke 10:17-20 NLT)

Do you know that power can get in to your head? The disciples were excited about their new found authority but I’m glad that Jesus was quick to point out that that’s not what is important. At the end of the day, what matters is that …YOUR NAMES ARE REGISTERED IN HEAVEN. What’s the point of it all if at the end of it you say… ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’ (Matthew 7:22-23 NLT)

I say this again… Power can get in to your head causing one to lose focus. It can cause our motives to be wrong and I like that James highlights a reason why some prayers are not answered. He says …even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure (James 4:3 NLT). You would be surprised what’s driving people to ask Jesus for things.

Immediately after this issue of power and authority, Jesus addresses another one. We find Jesus talking to a religious leader about the most important commandment… The man answered, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” “Right!” Jesus told him. “DO THIS AND YOU WILL LIVE!” (Luke 10:27-28 NLT).

If I were to bring the two together and draw up my own conclusion, I would say, in whatever capacity you find yourself, don’t use the power Jesus has given you to boost up your own ego. Exercise it out of the love you have to see people set free. Do everything with a humble heart and please DON’T LOSE SIGHT OF WHAT IS IMPORTANT. Regardless of your title, you would one day stand before the judgement seat.

God bless you

29. December 2013 · Comments Off on BEING ABOUT MY FATHER’S BUSINESS · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Wisdom

I have been thinking about this a lot and I almost titled this message ‘IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU’. This is because I have been pondering on a question someone asked me about where parents are getting it wrong with their children (like I’m one to talk) but after thinking about it all week, do you know it would have been very disastrous for Joseph and Mary to go about making their own plans for the life of Jesus Christ. What would have happened if they had said… thank You Lord for giving Him to us; now we can take it from here. Jesus, this is what we want you to become in life. It would have been something else. Why then do we try and control the life and destinies of our children?

Right from an early age, Jesus knew His calling and somehow found Himself in His Father’s house preaching and after a long search, when His parents eventually found Him and complained, He told them… Did you not see and know that it is necessary [as a duty] for Me to be in My Father’s house and [occupied] about My Father’s business? (Luke 2:49 AMP)

As parents, I believe we are only custodians of our children and it is important that we start early to seek the Lord’s face to find out what His plans are for them and then help them in the best way we can to walk in that path. My dad studied pharmacology and I remember him telling me he wanted me to become the doctor he couldn’t become and murmuring to myself, I would say ‘if it was easy to be a doctor why didn’t you become one?’ I couldn’t even stand the sight of blood. LOL

Please know that the same way God has a plan for you, He also has a plan for your kids (even before they were in their mother’s womb). The Bible records in several places that right from when Jesus was born, Mary pondered on the things going on around Him… Mary was keeping within herself all these things (sayings), weighing and pondering them in her heart (Luke 2:19 AMP). See also Luke 2:51. She knew she didn’t have an ordinary Child and it was her ministry to ensure she supported Him in the best way she could even if it meant she was heartbroken at times.

How are you supporting your child to be the person that God has called them to be? Are they being rebellious for a reason? Don’t you think it’s time to repent?

God bless you

“When the Holy Spirit fills us, we see that this world’s seductive attractions are only cheap substitutes for what God has to offer”.

This is such a profound statement. I read it yesterday in my study Bible and felt it was worth underlining. One of the sure signs that you are really filled with the Holy Spirit and have allowed Him to take centre stage in your life is when you allow Him to lead you to all truth including the fact that… this world’s seductive attractions are only cheap substitutes for what God has to offer.

I’m thinking of the time when Jesus changed water into wine during the Wedding at Cana… When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over. “A host always serves the best wine first,” he said. “Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!” (John 2:9-10 NLT)

The funny thing about this story is that they probably thought they were having a blast with what they had before but had the wine not run out, they wouldn’t have known there was something better on offer. Could this be the reason why the Lord sometimes allows us to run out of the things we look to for satisfaction?

Also, when Jesus arrived on the scene, He did not come to stop the celebration. Rather, He gave them something better to celebrate with. In the same way, Jesus did not come to take away your life like most people think and therefore resist Him. Rather, He said …I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly (John 10:10 NKJV).

Do you know that you can’t live an abundant life on cheap substitutes? As we end 2013 and approach the New Year, why not do a stock take of your life and see if there are areas where you are trying to survive on cheap substitutes. Where is your joy coming from? Where is your peace coming from? Where is the thing that gives you fulfillment and satisfaction coming from? Are you really satisfied?

God bless you

27. December 2013 · Comments Off on WHY ARE THEY GETTING AWAY WITH IT? · Categories: God's Plan, Grace, Jesus Christ

I was listening to someone say the following about someone who had done them great injustice. They said… “I think God loves them too much and allows them get away with everything. It’s like it’s me He is punishing so I must be one hell of a sinner. They are the one that gets blessed while I get nothing”.

LOL… I remember I used to say the exact thing too… It’s like it’s me God is punishing… maybe for something I did wrong. It has got to be the reason why God is blessing them and for me it’s one trouble after another… Been there… done it.. got the t-shirt.

This has been the question for many who have suffered any kind of injustice. It’s even in the Bible. It troubled the Psalmist for a long time and almost caused them to lose their footing. They said… I envied the proud when I saw them prosper despite their wickedness. They seem to live such painless lives; their bodies are so healthy and strong. They don’t have troubles like other people; they’re not plagued with problems like everyone else (Psalm 73:3-5 NLT)… Did I keep my heart pure for nothing? Did I keep myself innocent for no reason? I get nothing but trouble all day long; every morning brings me pain (Psalm 73:13-14 NLT).

There would always be a time when it feels like there’s no point living for Jesus Christ; a time when you would almost want to give up because it just doesn’t seem fair. First of all, know that it’s the enemy bombarding your mind with such thoughts; the Lord is not punishing you for what you have done. It’s not always about you. It’s between the Lord and them.

Secondly, it may seem that way for now but the Lord knows what He is doing… The Lord isn’t really being slow about His promise, as some people think. No, He is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent (2 Peter 3:9 NLT).

Please don’t change who you are because of someone else. Don’t give in and don’t be bitter. Like the Psalmist said… I realized that my heart was bitter, and I was all torn up inside (Psalm 73:21 NLT).

Like I said, I used to think I was being punished but now as I look back, I see that the Lord was taking me through a process and not punishment. The enemy is a great deceiver. He is excellent at painting a false picture of reality. Don’t buy into it. Do you really think the wicked are prospering? How do you define prosperity anyway? Are you looking at it from the way the world defines it or how the Lord defines it? Think again.

God bless you

26. December 2013 · Comments Off on WHAT’S THE SIGN? · Categories: Blessing, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Joy, Peace, Praise, Promise, Worship

For a Child is born to us, a Son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And He will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His government and its peace will never end… (Isaiah 9:6-7 NLT)

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, government … After reading this, I’m sure you would expect to see royalty treatment. Drum roll… earth quakes or everything spectacular that you can ever imagine but if you understand how the Lord works then you should know that you are in for a surprise… For to you is born this day in the town of David a Savior, Who is Christ (the Messiah) the Lord! AND THIS WILL BE A SIGN FOR YOU [by which you will recognize Him]: you will find [after searching] A BABY WRAPPED IN SWADDLING CLOTHES AND LYING IN A MANGER (Luke 2:11-12 AMP).

A BABY WRAPPED IN SWADDLING CLOTHES AND LYING IN A MANGER???? Are you sure you are not mistaking this baby for someone us? How can this be a Saviour… Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace???

Most times when the Lord makes us great promises, we tend to look out for great signs but I wish I could say He works like that. Here you go; here’s what I said would happen all wrapped up in gold and silver. Wouldn’t that be great? Well, our God doesn’t alway work like that. He sometimes takes you on a journey which does not look anything like it would land you at the destination He has promised. And if you are not careful you would miss out on what He is doing because your life would be filled with such pain and disappointment.

Instead of questioning the way the Lord chose to introduce Jesus, the angels were joined by a vast host of the armies of heaven who then burst into praise (Luke 2:13-14). And the shepherds too; they went in search of Jesus and found Him based on the sign they were given… After seeing Him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child. All who heard the shepherds’ story were astonished… The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them (Luke 2:17-20 NLT).

What signs are you looking out for? Don’t you know that the Lord uses…things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And He chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful (1 Corinthians 1:27 NLT).

Why not be like the angels, the Shepherds and the people and rejoice and praise God despite the signs you can see right now.

God bless you

Merry Christmas

“You are the light of the world… Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:14-16 NKJV).

HEY…It’s Christmas day and I’m sure if you live in an area like mine, there are beautiful Christmas lights everywhere and people passing by are often attracted to those houses with Christmas lights displayed outside.

Well, as beautiful as they may seem, they are artificial. You carry the real thing so let what you carry shine and attract people to your house. Make someone see your light. Spread the… good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:10-11 NKJV).

Do have a very merry Christmas.

God bless you

Abraham was a man that had a close relationship with God. In fact, he was referred to as a friend of God (James 2:23). I see this as a two way relationship. Abraham was after a son and the Lord sent 3 angels to confirm that He would make it happen in a year. But God was also after something; the 3 angels were also going somewhere else and because of His close relationship with Abraham, the Lord saw it fit to let him in on His plans… And the Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing (Genesis 18:17 NKJV).

The Lord then confides in Abraham revealing what He was up to. Basically, there was so much sin in Sodom and He was about to destroy the city. But I don’t believe He told Abraham just for telling sake. It was a call for Abraham to intercede for the city. And so Abraham said… Far be it from You to do such a thing as this, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be as the wicked; far be it from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” (Genesis 18:25 NKJV)

Well He did what is right and years later He made available a solution for all time… Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:10-11 NKJV).

Jesus Christ is the main reason for this season. On Saturday when I was out, it was hard to get from point A to point B because of the traffic. Everybody is out doing their Christmas shopping but if you ask what they are celebrating, you start to hear all sorts of stories. The real reason for Christmas is no longer on people’s minds but as friends of God who trusts Him for things and He comes through for us, He is also trusting us to remind people what this season is all about… For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16 NKJV).

Merry Christmas all

Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock? (John 4:12 NIV)

OK… time out… I’ve been on this Samaritan woman’s case for weeks now and I’ve got some scores to settle with her. Jesus offered her something new and she compared Him to Jacob. Are you serious? Do you think Jacob lived a happy life? Well let’s see…

1) Started struggling right from his mother’s womb
2) Grew up in a household where his dad preferred his brother Esau to him
3) Ran from home because he stole his brothers birth right
4) Found himself in a love triangle; met this beautiful lady by the well… fell in love with her but was deceived into marrying another woman he didn’t love.
5) Further deceived to work for his uncle for about 20 years or so.
6) His only daughter Dinah was raped and he couldn’t do anything about it.
7) The love of his live (Rachel) died while giving birth to her second son.
8) His oldest son Reuben slept with one of his concubines.
9) Soon after his wife’s death, he buries his father.
10) He hears bad news that wild animals devoured his precious son Joseph (the one from him precious late wife).
11) His own sons were the ones behind the whole thing.
12) Years Later, famine wipes out all his wealth and he sent his sons to go and search for food in another country but he hears some more potential bad news that they were about to take his second precious son away…

By this time the weight was too much for him and Jacob said to them, “You have deprived me of my children. Joseph is no more and Simeon is no more, and now you want to take Benjamin. EVERYTHING IS AGAINST ME!” (Genesis 42:36 NIV)

It finally took Joseph (a type of Christ) to bring him out of the mess he was in but by this time Jacob had to confess… few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and they have not attained to those of the life of my fathers in their pilgrimage (Genesis 47:9 AMP).

Jacob’s well didn’t serve him well. He wasn’t even meant to have bought that land in the first place. We’ve got to be careful whose well we draw from. Systems with shaky foundations have been put in place which then sees us going round and round in circles. That’s what tradition and even religion does to you so let’s resolve this once and for all. Jesus Christ is greater than anyone, system, government, or whatever you can ever imagine so let’s …pull down strongholds and cast down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:4-5 NLT)

I pray Jesus digs deep and rebuilds any faulty foundations you are standing on.

God bless you

22. December 2013 · Comments Off on LIVING BY THE TRUTH · Categories: Freedom, God's Plan, Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ, Thoughts

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. AND YOU SHALL KNOW THE TRUTH, AND THE TRUTH SHALL MAKE YOU FREE.” (John 8:31-32 NKJV)

To be able to enjoy the Christian life and true freedom, we must live according to God’s truth and not according to the lies we hear from the enemy. I can’t even begin to emphasise how important it is to live by the truth as it is written in God’s word and revealed by the Holy Spirit. We had an amazing meeting yesterday and it was such an eye opener to hear how people can be held captive for decades by the lies the enemy whispers in their ears. Jesus said this about satan… He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a falsehood, HE SPEAKS WHAT IS NATURAL TO HIM, FOR HE IS A LIAR [HIMSELF] AND THE FATHER OF LIES AND OF ALL THAT IS FALSE (John 8:44 AMP).

He speaks WHAT IS NATURAL TO HIM… and if you are not careful, he makes the lies that he tells you about yourself sound natural to you. The battle for the truth takes place in our mind. There’s Gods truth and then there’s the lie of satan… The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows) (John 10:10 AMP).

God has a plan for our life’s and satan also has a plan to destroy God’s plan. It is important to understand that whoever we agree with will determine the course of our life. The enemy is always out to deceive us by tempting us to believe things that are not really true but can become personal realities for us if we buy into the lies surrounding them. He knows that if he can dominate our thinking, he can dominate our lives. If we choose to allow him, he will steal, kill and destroy the life that Jesus has come to give us.

However, the Lord has given us the weapons to overcome satan and His truth is a mighty weapon. It’s up to us to decide to agree with God and dismantle all the strategies of satan… We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:4-5 NLT)

When we are deceived, we don’t know, enjoy or live by the truth. Think about it. In what ways is the devil trying to deceive you in to believing his lies? What scriptures can you use to counteract his lies?

God bless you
