People come in to our lives for various reasons. Some remain loyal and are in it for the long haul; determined to continue with you no matter what it takes. However, there are some people that would stick around only for as long as things are going well. It is sometimes hard to detect these kind of people so let’s so if we can learn another lesson from Naomi.

Naomi heard that things had become better at home and decided to go back home so… with her two daughters-in-law she set out from the place where she had been living, and they took the road that would lead them back to Judah (Ruth 1:7 NLT).

As far as there was good news, Orpah was happy to come along for the ride… but on the way, Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go back to your mothers’ homes…” “No,” they said. “We want to go with you to your people.” (Ruth 1:8-10 NLT)

Are you really sure? Oh… there’s bread where I’m going alright but let me spell it out for you so you can get the full picture of how coming along with me looks like… “Why should you go on with me? Can I still give birth to other sons who could grow up to be your husbands? … And even if it were possible, and I were to get married tonight and bear sons, then what? Would you wait for them to grow up and refuse to marry someone else? …” (Ruth 1:11-13 NLT).

Naomi showed them what deciding to follow her would mean. Are you still sure you are prepared to remain loyal to me? Orpah counted the cost and immediately said NO… and ORPAH KISSED HER MOTHER-IN-LAW GOOD-BYE. But Ruth clung tightly to Naomi (Ruth 1:14 NLT).

Orpah and Ruth represent the two kinds of people I mentioned at the beginning. You are bound to come across them as you journey through life. Orpah would only follow you half of the way; hanging around only because they perceive some good prospects. However, as soon as they count the cost, they are out of there but Ruth which means ‘friend or companions’ would cling to you for life.

You need to evaluate the people in your life to determine who is a ‘friend for food’ and who is ‘for better for worse’. There are some people that need to give you the KISS OF GOD-BYE and that’s why God sometimes intervenes and removes people from our lives because He sees the heart of men. Even Jesus said we can’t be His disciples until we count the cost. It is my prayer that like Naomi, we receive discernment to get rid of the Orpah’s in our lives.

God bless you

In the days when the judges ruled in Israel, a severe famine came upon the land. So a man from Bethlehem in Judah left his home and went to live in the country of Moab, taking his wife and two sons with him (Ruth 1:1 NLT).

There’s the saying that ‘all that glitters is not gold’ or that ‘the grass is not always greener on the other side’. I bet Naomi wished someone had sat them down and really explained this to them before they left their home. They move to Moab in search of greener pastures but see what happened… Elimelech died, and Naomi was left with her two sons (Ruth 1:3 NLT). And then… both Mahlon and Kilion died. This left Naomi alone, without her two sons or her husband (Ruth 1:5 NLT).

If only they had been patient to see what God was going to do because the situation at home did not last forever… Naomi heard in Moab that the Lord had come to the aid of His people by providing food for them… (Ruth 1:6 NLT)

Bethlehem means ‘house of bread’ meaning they were in the city of bread but because they didn’t see the bread they left. It reminds me of Abraham. Soon after he set out on his journey, he arrived in Canaan, the promised land but… there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine was severe (Genesis 12:10 NIV). Abraham had to go back and forth for a while but I like that when it came to his son, Isaac, the Lord immediately intervened and said… DO NOT GO DOWN TO EGYPT… Dwell temporarily in this land, and I will be with you and will favor you with blessings… (GENESIS 26:3 AMP).

Are you thinking of escaping to Moab? Moab is from Lot’s descendants and we know the choice Lot made that landed him in Sodom and Gomorrah. Because of impatience and wanting to take the easy way out, Naomi faced deadly consequences. We tend not to like anything that causes us any kind of pain or discomfort but longsuffering is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22) and …after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you (Peter 5:10 ESV).

God bless you

I was telling them in church on Sunday that one thing Christian’s know how to do very well is put on our church face or should I say masks and pretend that everything is well. However, underneath, people are broken and are so badly in need of restoration.

I’ve been wandering why all of a sudden, I’ve become very emotional; every little thing or story I read or hear brings me to tears and I believe God is revealing how broken His people are. The Bible tells us what to do and what not to do when going through challenges; we are to STAND; Be strong and courageous and that’s all good. God wants us to be strong and He tells me that all the time but there are times when I tell Him that I don’t have the strength to be strong. This burden is too much for me and He understands… For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses… (Hebrews 4:15 NKJV)

I was listening to a song by Tamela Mann this weekend that just simply says… Take Me To The King and these words caught my attention;

Take Me To The King… I don’t have much to bring… My heart is torn in pieces… IT’S MY OFFERING… Lay me at the throne… Leave me there alone… Truth is I’m tired… Options are few… I’m trying to pray… But where are You?… I’m all churched out… Hurt and abused… I can’t fake… What’s left to do?… Truth is I’m weak… No strength to fight… No tears to cry… Even if I tried… But still my soul refuses to die… ONE TOUCH-WILL CHANGE-MY LIFE… TAKE ME TO THE KING… Truth is it’s time to stop playing these games… We need a word for the people’s pain… So Lord speak right now… Let it fall like rain… We’re desperate… We’re chasing after you… No rules, no religion… I’ve made my decision… To run to You… The healer that I need…

I hope I don’t get into trouble for copyright infringement but I like when she says… IT’S MY OFFERING. As if to say… Don’t ask me for anything else to give because all I have is my broken heart. There are many people that are just fed up with everything life has thrown at them; people that are… all churched out… tired of playing by the rules and just need to be taken to the king. If that’s you then this message is for you.

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to Me. Get away with Me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with Me and work with Me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with Me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (Matthew 11:28-30 MSG)

Jesus wants to heal your broken heart. Come to His throne of grace just as you are.

God bless you

When Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and put them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat and FASTENED ON HIS HAND… He, however, SHOOK OFF THE CREATURE INTO THE FIRE and SUFFERED NO HARM (Acts 28:3-5 ESV).

How did Paul SUFFER NO HARM from a poisonous snake’s bite? First of all, it doesn’t say that Paul panicked. He wasn’t scared or confused. He stayed calm and was in control of the situation and just shook it off. How do you shake trouble off?

Have you ever received a word from God? Do you believe when He says My word… shall not return to Me void (Isaiah 55:11)? This was something Paul understood. Paul suffered no harm because he had a direct revelation from God. God said you shall surely stand before Caesar (Acts 27:23-25). So Paul understood that if the shipwreck didn’t stop him, this snake bite won’t either. Paul injected that word into him until he became immune to the snake bite.

I tell people I know satan doesn’t want me alive. I’ve faced death so many times. I’ve had motor accidents, been in a burning building with no exit etc… Yet amid all these things I am more than a conqueror and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loves me (Romans 8:37 AMP). Jesus spared me and like Paul, I stand on the word He’s told me concerning the things ahead that He wants me to do and so I’m able to shake off such attacks.

Paul also had another revelation from what he read in the Bible… The native people showed him UNUSUAL KINDNESS and he understood what Jesus told his disciples… Whenever you go into a town and they receive and accept and welcome you, eat what is set before you; And heal the sick in it… Behold! I have given you authority and power to trample upon serpents and scorpions… over all the power that the enemy [possesses]; and nothing shall in any way harm you (Luke 10:8-9, 19 AMP).

I like how the book of Mark put it… These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe… They will be able to handle snakes with safety… They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed” (Mark 16:17-18 NLT). Paul digested this information until it became revelation and we saw yesterday that despite the snake bite, he went ahead to heal the sick people in that town (Acts 28:8-9).

How do you take God’s word? Have you received a word from God either directly or through the Bible? Do you know that until you digest that word and it becomes revelation, it remains only information? You need to process God’s truth until you get the revelation that because of what’s ahead, nothing can stop you. Then would you be able to shake off anything contrary.

I see you shaking some thing’s off.

God bless you

When Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and put them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat and FASTENED ON HIS HAND. When the native people saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “No doubt this man is a murderer. Though he has escaped from the sea, Justice has not allowed him to live.” He, however, SHOOK OFF THE CREATURE INTO THE FIRE and SUFFERED NO HARM. They were waiting for him to swell up or suddenly fall down dead. But when they had waited a long time and saw NO MISFORTUNE COME TO HIM, they changed their minds and said that he was a god (Acts 28:3-6 ESV).

I believe one of the signs that shows you are called to do great things for God is by the amount of attacks from the enemy that you face and if you’ve got no sense of purpose you won’t understand why you are under so much attack.

Here’s someone that has just survived a shipwreck. You would think he would at least have a minute to catch his breath but even before settling down, out comes another storm FASTENED ON HIS HAND. It won’t let go just like those kinds of problems that defies prayers and just fastens themselves to you. It was a trial of Paul’s faith but It also held on tight long enough so people would notice it hanging from his hand. But this was only so that they would recognise that it was no ordinary man that entered that town. How else were they to know that this was a great man of God with the blood of Jesus flowing through his veins? Who else can shake off a poisonous snake and walk away unharmed? They had no choice but to change their minds about him.

Something else about this story is that, at times we think that satan attacks us for no reason. But most times its because of the people in bondage that God has sent you to reach out to. Paul arrived at this island and this poisonous snake attempts to stop him. Why? Because… Now in the neighborhood of that place were lands belonging to the chief man of the island, named Publius, who received us and entertained us hospitably for three days. It happened that the father of Publius lay sick with fever and dysentery. And Paul visited him and prayed, and PUTTING HIS HANDS ON HIM HEALED HIM. And when this had taken place, THE REST OF THE PEOPLE ON THE ISLAND WHO HAD DISEASES ALSO CAME AND WERE CURED (Acts 28:7-9 ESV).

If the snake had succeeded in killing Paul, do you think these people would have received their healing? Please know that the enemy is only attacking you because of what you carry… the anointing of God in you but be rest assured that there are great things ahead for you to do and as far as God has called you, no devil in hell can stop you.

God bless you

AFTER WE WERE BROUGHT SAFELY THROUGH, we then LEARNED that the island was called MALTA. The native people showed us UNUSUAL KINDNESS, for they KINDLED A FIRE and welcomed us all, BECAUSE IT HAD BEGUN TO RAIN AND WAS COLD (Acts 28:1-2 ESV).

When the word ‘After’ is used, it means something happened before so the question is what happened? If you read Acts 27, you would see that Paul had just survived a shipwreck. They were on board on sea on their way to Rome. They hit a storm and the ship went down under but Paul’s testimony is that all of them on board survived. When facing a storm, it always seems like it’s never going to end but I like that this portion of Scripture says… AFTER WE WERE BROUGHT SAFELY THROUGH… This gives me so much assurance that it does not matter what you are going through, you are coming safely through it so if you are facing a storm right now, I advise you to start by resolving this right now… I AM COMING THROUGH SAFELY…. I have come through JANUARY, FEBRUARY, MARCH, APRIL, MAY… etc and I am coming through. Let everybody that needs to know including the devil know this truth.

Another thing to notice about this text is that it says… WE THEN LEARNED THAT THE ISLAND WAS CALLED MALTA … When they say ‘we then LEARNED’, it means they had no idea where the storm was taking them to. They didn’t know where they were going to land. Have you ever been in a storm and you have no clue where it is leading to? The storm just took them wherever but the good news is that when Jesus is in the boat with you, you are bound to safely land somewhere. I’m sure when they landed, they looked around asking each other… where are we? Someone may have googled the area on the internet or used Google map and saw that they were in Malta. They gained knowledge about the place so I helped them to do some research about Malta. I went on Wikipedia and started reading about the place…

The name originates from a Greek word Melite or Melita, meaning “honey-sweet” or honey-like; possibly due to Malta’s unique production of honey; giving it the popular nickname “the land of honey”. So you see… after the storm, they landed in a land of honey. A sweet place where the people treated them with UNUSUAL KINDNESS… they KINDLED A FIRE and welcomed them well. This is the testimony for anyone that believes this word. Everything you have been through has been preparing you for a land of honey where you will find unusual kindness and favour with God and man. It BEGUN TO RAIN AND WAS COLD and other people KINDLED A FIRE for them. May you arrive at that place where you don’t have to do much labour. God will use people to meet your every need in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

God bless you

25. October 2013 · Comments Off on THE TABLE IS SET · Categories: Jesus Christ, Restoration

I remember in primary school there were days I used to look forward to meal time because I knew what was on the menu. On those days, I could hardly concentrate and couldn’t wait to get home. However, there were other days when I wasn’t so excited because I just didn’t like what was for lunch. For some reason, we didn’t like a particular traditional dish called ‘Semovita’ at all but we had no choice. We had to eat what was given to us. However, we had a trick we used to play on my parents. We used to throw the food under the table because you had to show that you had finished your food before you could get some ice cream or other dessert. Unfortunately, one Saturday lunch time, one of us (I’m sure it wasn’t me) made a mistake and something touched my dad’s feet. When he looked under the table, guess what he saw? Semovita! LOL

That was a little joke but the point I’m trying to make is that we don’t always like what we are given to eat. Most time’s we want to go straight to the dessert. However, dessert is not the only thing on the table. David told the Lord… You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies… (Psalm 23:5 NIV)

Now the question is; what’s on the table? Is it only dessert? There are times God will put your storms on the table for your enemy’s to see but that’s only because he wants these same enemies to watch as He brings you through the storm. I’m thinking of Lazarus. His family faced a major storm which was on display for everyone to see. Jesus allowed it to get out of hand and the people around Him started to talk… some said, “This man healed a blind man. Couldn’t He have kept Lazarus from dying?” (John 11:37 NLT)

Jesus raised Lazarus up from the grave in front of everybody to see. Many had a change of heart and I like what happens after… Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while LAZARUS WAS AMONG THOSE RECLINING AT THE TABLE WITH HIM (John 12:1-2 NIV).

There’s the tendency to bow one’s head down when your enemies watch as trouble hits you on every side. They are bound to ask where your God is. But that’s not the time to shy away. Rather that’s the time to say I’m dining at the table with Jesus. Tell them that you may not like what you are eating right now but that does not mean it’s not good for you. It is refining your character and preparing you for the dessert that’s coming and in all of it Jesus will be glorified.

God bless you

24. October 2013 · Comments Off on IS GOD INCUBATING YOU? · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Rejection

As you grow in life, with age and experience, isn’t it funny how you start to look at things differently? You can call me strange but somehow I’m beginning to take rejection by people really well. This is because I’ve come to understand that not all rejection is bad. Rejection by men could be God’s way of incubating you for His purpose so the first thing you should do when faced with rejection is to ask God like King David did whether it’s a cause worth pursuing.

Incubation is when something is kept in a secluded environment that promotes its development and as we’ve read in the Bible, Moses… David… Joseph and Jesus are a few examples of those hidden. They suffered rejection from men. However, men may reject you and put you down either through their direct actions or the words that they say to you but as far as it is God that has called you, their plans or actions can NEVER prevail so stop getting depressed about it.

Stephen was brought before the high court and as he addressed the Council, he told them about how God sent Moses back to Egypt. He said… “This is the same Moses they had rejected with the words, ‘Who made you ruler and judge?’ He was sent to be their ruler and deliverer BY GOD HIMSELF, through the angel who appeared to him in the bush (Acts 7:35 NIV).

Moses was rejected with words but was appointed BY GOD HIMSELF and he became exactly what God said he would become… ruler and deliverer. It didn’t matter whether it took 40 years.

And then we see the case of Jesus… the greatest deliverer of them all. As Peter addressed the crowd, he also made a similar statement. He said… this is the same Jesus whom you handed over and rejected before Pilate, despite Pilate’s decision to release Him. You rejected this holy, righteous One… You killed the author of life, BUT GOD RAISED HIM FROM THE DEAD… (Acts 3:13-15 NLT)

I’m not sure how they thought they could kill the author of life but we know the great testimony that… GOD RAISED HIM FROM THE DEAD.

Are you one that suffers heavy rejection from people? Could God be incubating you? Maybe you are not meant to fit in with the crowd. Rejection is God’s way of preserving you for His purpose and you’ve got to get to the point where you understand that people may not accept you but there’s no way that they can ever stop what God wants to use you for. Instead of getting depressed why not draw closer to God and watch as He raises you. He is the one that gives real significance and validation.

God bless you

23. October 2013 · Comments Off on LEAVE IT IN THE HANDS OF GOD · Categories: Jesus Christ, Restoration, Reward

I, for one know what it feels like to suffer because of someone else’s mistakes, carelessness or poor judgement. Of course it hurts because you are full of regrets… If not for you, I won’t be in the predicament that I’m in today. Maybe you’ve lost so much money or is it the wasted effort and not to talk of the wasted years. Or maybe it’s a life that was lost. Please let me advise you today; playing the blame game would not get you anywhere. It’s best to leave it in God’s hand and see how He turns things around.

The Bible tells us of Mephibosheth… Saul’s son Jonathan had a son named Mephibosheth, who was crippled as a child. He was five years old when the report came from Jezreel that Saul and Jonathan had been killed in battle. When the child’s nurse heard the news, she picked him up and fled. But as she hurried away, SHE DROPPED HIM, AND HE BECAME CRIPPLED (2 Samuel 4:4 NLT).

Mephibosheth was a victim of someone else’s mistake. His predicament started at an early age and it robbed him of his life. One can only imagine the thoughts that passed through his head… If only you were more careful… If only you left me to run on my own… If only I never met you… If only my parents had chosen a different nurse… If only… ??? He must have thought that there was no hope of any kind of restoration but… ONE DAY David asked, “Is anyone in Saul’s family still alive—anyone to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”… Ziba replied, “Yes, one of Jonathan’s sons is still alive. He is crippled in both feet.” “Where is he?” the king asked. “In LO-DEBAR,” Ziba told him… (2 Samuel 9:1-4 NLT)

David sent for Mephibosheth and in a twinkle of an eye his situation changed. David told him… I will give you all the property that once belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will eat here with me at the king’s table!” (2 Samuel 9:7 NLT). He got back everything that rightfully belonged him… and from that time on, Mephibosheth ate regularly at David’s table, like one of the king’s own sons (SAMUEL 9:9-10 NLT).

That’s what happens when the God of restoration steps in to your situation. In one day Mephibosheth became a property (s) owner; had many servants and started dining with the king.

Who has dropped you and made you crippled to the point that you are stuck in misery and can’t move pass that situation? Are you not the son/daughter of the King of all king’s? Like Mephibosheth, Jesus is calling you out of that land of desolation (LO-DEBAR). Hear what He is saying… “For I, the Lord, love justice. I hate robbery and wrongdoing. I will faithfully reward my people for their suffering… (Isaiah 61:8 NLT).

God bless you

22. October 2013 · Comments Off on THE LORD IS CLOSER THAN YOU THINK · Categories: Help, Jesus Christ, Restoration

Why does it always feel like the Lord is nowhere to be found when we are down? On Saturday night, I was struggling with some issues. I tried to pray but I struggled with that too and all I kept saying was Lord help me… I need Your help… that’s all I kept on saying but then the enemy who is the accuser of the brethren came with his voice echoing in my head… That’s no prayer… You didn’t do this and you didn’t do that… You are slacking in your prayer and all that. Anyway, that’s all I could say until I fell asleep. I woke up the next morning saying the same thing but feeling like the Lord had not listened to a word I said because religion defines a formula for prayer and every now and then we are fooled into thinking that’s the only way to reach out to God.

However, when I got to church, one of the first things that my pastor said as he took the mic to preach was that THE LORD HAS HEARD YOUR CRY FOR HELP. You can imagine how I felt; I was like really? But I didn’t feel Your presence at all. So You actually heard me? Really? Dear friend, do you that we then spent some time before the sermon praying for what I was crying out for help for. Isn’t God awesome?

It’s the little things like this that makes my relationship with Jesus all the more special. I went home feeling on top of the world… HE HEARD MY CRY FOR HELP and I was on fire again. Don’t be fooled; the Lord really does listen. We read about it in the Bible but when going through certain phases, everything you know just seems to disappear. That’s why it’s always good to refer back to the word of God because faith comes by hearing…

The devil does his best to make you feel that the Lord does not hear you especially when you are feeling low but the truth is that… the Lord hears His people when they call to Him for help. He rescues them from ALL their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed (Psalm 34:17-18 NLT).

The Message translation says… Is anyone crying for help? GOD IS LISTENING, READY TO RESCUE YOU. If your heart is broken, you’ll find God right there…

Do you feel abandoned? Do you need help? Don’t let the enemy deceive you into thinking that the Lord is not listening to you. Why not cry out to the Lord for help today? He is a very present help in trouble…He will not let you stumble; the One who watches over you will not slumber. Cry out and see help coming your way today.

God bless you
