THEN GOD SAID, “LET THERE BE light,” and there was light (Genesis 1:3 NLT).

THEN GOD SAID, “LET THERE BE… was the words God said as He created the world and when it was time… Then God said, “Let Us make human beings in Our image, to be like Us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.” So God created human beings in His own image. In the image of God He created them; male and female He created them (Genesis 1:27 NLT).

If God created you in His image, then you also have the ability to speak and name things and we see this power demonstrated when Adam named every living creature… and whatever Adam called every living creature, that was its name (Genesis 2:19 AMP).

The words that we speak have power and I for one am guilty of saying some negative things and immediately the words come out from my mouth, I know that’s not what I should be confessing for myself so I immediately try to take it back. I’m getting better because the Lord has been dealing with me seriously in this area, making me realise the power of the words that come out of my mouth. I’m probably not alone so if you are like me, I believe it’s time we start realising the power of the tongue when used either positively or negatively… Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it SHALL EAT THE FRUIT OF IT [FOR DEATH OR LIFE]. (Proverbs 18:21 AMP)

SHALL EAT THE FRUIT OF IT [FOR DEATH OR LIFE]… scary if you stop to think of some of the things you say… like I’m living from hand to mouth… this headache is killing me… I don’t think I can survive this situation… what am I doing alive… and all the other negative things we say when down without realising the power behind them. The Bible says… the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. IT CAN SET YOUR WHOLE LIFE ON FIRE, FOR IT IS SET ON FIRE BY HELL ITSELF (James 3:6 NLT).

When you open your mouth and all those negative things starts flowing out of it, know that hell is at work and the last thing you want to do is agree with the enemy concerning any aspect of your life because his only agenda is to steal, kill and destroy. As you enter a new week, why not make it a point of duty to think of the things you say before you say them and if you can’t think of anything good to say, just say ‘Jesus is Lord; or ‘thank you Lord for wisdom to restrain my tongue’.

God bless you

Then he went on alone into the wilderness, traveling all day. He sat down under a solitary broom tree and prayed that he might die. “I HAVE HAD ENOUGH, LORD,” he said. “Take my life, for I am no better than my ancestors who have already died.” (1 Kings 19:4 NLT)

These are the words of Prophet Elijah who had just finished calling down fire from heaven to consume a very wet sacrifice, humiliated Baal, the people’s god and killed 450 of its prophets and then called down rain after three and a half years of no rain. He had just finished doing great things for God but then here comes the enemy with what he knows how to do best; intimidation, frustration, depression, weariness… Jezebel threatened to kill him so he ran away as fast as he could to find a place to hide.

Are you feeling like Elijah felt? Feeling down? Is the enemy bombarding your mind with rubbish, trying to get you to focus on the negative rather than on the great things God is doing in your life? Have you had enough and just want to give up? Have you withdrawn in to your shell? Well… thank God that He is Omnipresence and He knows where you are hiding. The Lord found Elijah in the cave where he was hiding and… said to him, “WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE, ELIJAH?” (1 king 19:9)

Could the Lord be asking you the same question today? I know we are getting to the end of the year and that’s when anxiety sets in. You might be feeling down because you think that all your efforts have come to nothing but God is asking, “What are you doing in this lonely place after all you’ve achieved?” Several times the Lord asked Elijah the same question (See 1 king 19:9-14).

Elijah replied, “I have zealously served the Lord God Almighty. But the people of Israel have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed every one of your prophets. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me, too.” (1 Kings 19:10 NLT)

Elijah was about to give up based on the lie of the enemy. The Lord told Elijah, you’re not the only one… I will preserve 7,000 others in Israel who have never bowed down to Baal or kissed him!” (1 Kings 19:18 NLT)

By now you should know how the enemy works. Know that there are great things ahead. What you need is for Jesus to energise you… Then the angel of the Lord came again and touched him and said, “Get up and eat some more, or the journey ahead will be too much for you.” (1 Kings 19:7 NLT).

Maybe it’s time to go on a retreat with Jesus.

Are you really acknowledging God’s rule over your life? Are you really experiencing peace and joy in your life?

[After all] the kingdom of God is not a matter of [getting the] food and drink [one likes], but instead it is righteousness (that state which makes a person acceptable to God) and [heart] PEACE AND JOY IN THE HOLY SPIRIT (Romans 14:17 AMP).

Is your mind always troubled over stuff? You know how to talk the Christian talk, know what is right from wrong and can put on a show in public to make it seem like you’ve got it all together but behind closed doors, its tears, tears and more tears. You are always worried and anxious over the things going on around you; the things nobody else knows you are going through. You are saved no doubt but IS JESUS REALLY REIGNING IN YOUR LIFE?

Where’s your peace? Where’s your joy? I like how the Message translation put it… God’s kingdom isn’t a matter of what you put in your stomach, for goodness’ sake. IT’S WHAT GOD DOES WITH YOUR LIFE AS HE SETS IT RIGHT, PUTS IT TOGETHER, AND COMPLETES IT WITH JOY.

Are you waiting for everything to be perfect before you experience real peace and joy? Didn’t they say true joy isn’t based on what is happening around you but from the Holy Spirit that flows from within you? I don’t think Jesus promised that everything would be smooth. In fact, He made sure He prepared the minds of His disciples. Jesus said… I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NLT)

The storms of life happens to the just and the unjust but what differentiates the just from the unjust is the peace and joy that reigns over their life while going through the storm; the kind of peace that Jesus gives that the world cannot understand. You’ve been given a solution for handling the storms of life… Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7 NLT).

If you are struggling with experiencing real joy, why not ask the Lord today to… restore to you the joy of your salvation (Psalm 51:12) and see Him anoint you afresh with the oil of joy and gladness.

And Cain said to his brother, Let us go out to the field. And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him (Genesis 4:8 AMP).

It just so happens that right at the beginning of the Bible, we see the very first dysfunctional family in the world; where brother kills his own flesh and blood because of jealousy. And where did this jealousy come from? Because Abel did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and Cain did not.

On that faithful day, I wonder if Abel had questions? Did he ask his brother why they had to go to the field or did he blindly trust his brother and just followed him. If someone had told him that his brother was going to kill him by the end of that day, would he have argued back and said no way! This is my brother we are talking about. He can’t possibly mean any harm. Well yes he is your brother but he had no good intentions towards you. It’s so sad to hear such a story but it wouldn’t have made it to the Bible if the Lord did not think it was important. We also know of Joseph and his brothers story which was also because of jealousy.

Here’s a simple warning not for everyone but for someone… BEWARE OF THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU. It’s not everyone that comes around you that is for you… “Beware of your neighbor! Don’t even trust your brother! For brother takes advantage of brother, and friend slanders friend. They all fool and defraud each other; no one tells the truth. With practiced tongues they tell lies; they wear themselves out with all their sinning (Jeremiah 9:4-5 NLT).

Jeremiah was a prophet called and separated by God even before he was born but hear what the Lord told him. Jeremiah said… Then the Lord told me about the plots my enemies were making against me. I was like a lamb being led to the slaughter. I had no idea that they were planning to kill me! “Let’s destroy this man and all his words,” they said. “Let’s cut him down, so his name will be forgotten forever.” (Jeremiah 11:18-19 NLT)

And you would think he only had outsiders to contend with but the Lord also cleared that up… Even your brothers, members of your own family, have turned against you. They plot and raise complaints against you. Do not trust them, no matter how pleasantly they speak (Jeremiah 12:6 NLT)

All those that have suddenly remembered you and all of a sudden want to mend bridges… BE CAREFUL… Your enemies are right in your own household! (Micah 7:6 NLT). This is not to say everybody is bad but we can’t deny that we live in a wicked world and one of the prayers I say to the Lord who sees the heart of everyone is that He should open my eyes to see the people around me. Why not make that your prayer from now on.

Not everyone has been called to be a pastor or preacher but everyone has been called to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. You’ve been through things that you know that if not for Jesus Christ you won’t be where you are today. Like David said… “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, When men rose up against us, Then they would have swallowed us alive, When their wrath was kindled against us (Psalm 124:2-3 NKJV)

There are things God has allowed you to go through and it’s time to start sharing what He has brought you through. Jesus said… “Simon, Simon, satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. AND WHEN YOU HAVE TURNED BACK, STRENGTHEN YOUR BROTHERS.” (Luke 22:31-32 NIV)

You would think that Jesus would have said… I have prayed for you, Simon, that satan would not succeed but instead Jesus prayed for his faith to carry him through the trial so that he can in turn STRENGTHEN HIS BROTHERS.

One of the ways to strengthen your brothers is to share what the Lord has brought you through. Also, the Bible says… And they have overcome (conquered) him by means of the blood of the Lamb and BY THE UTTERANCE OF THEIR TESTIMONY, for they did not love and cling to life even when faced with death [holding their lives cheap till they had to die for their witnessing]. (Revelation 12:11 AMP)

Everybody has a testimony and satan would do his very best to keep your mouth shut. You may be facing some challenges and you may feel that you are not where you want to be but the way to overcome is to share your testimony of what the Lord has done so far, no matter how insignificant you may think it is. Maybe you are worried about what people may think but like someone said the test of real deliverance is transparency. You know you’ve been delivered when you are no longer ashamed of your past. You can openly say to people… I used to be this person but look at what the Lord has done.

Have you got a testimony to share? Surely you must do… It is because of the Lord’s mercy and loving-kindness that we are not consumed, because His [tender] compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great and abundant is Your stability and faithfulness (Lamentations 3:22-23 AMP). Surely, the Lord has been faithful to you… Why not start USING YOUR PULPIT to share your testimony and watch as you rise up to a higher level of overcoming.

25. September 2013 · Comments Off on THE INGREDIENTS FOR ANOINTING · Categories: Anointing, God's Plan, Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ

When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” Peter answered: “May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God. Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord in the hope that He may forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin.” (Acts 8:18-23 NIV)

Like Simon, many people think to be anointed to do God’s work is something you can just buy in the market but you would often hear highly anointed men of God say they laugh when people come to them requesting that they lay hands on them so that their anointing could be imparted on them. Well… if you want my anointing come and go through what I’ve been through they would say.

Recently, I was listening to someone preach about the ingredients of the anointing oil God prescribed… God spoke to Moses: “Take the best spices: twelve and a half pounds of LIQUID MYRRH; half that much, six and a quarter pounds, of fragrant CINNAMON; six and a quarter pounds of fragrant CANE; twelve and a half pounds of CASSIA—using the standard Sanctuary weight for all of them—and a gallon of OLIVE OIL. Make these into a holy anointing oil, a perfumer’s skillful blend (Exodus 30:22-25 MSG).

While I haven’t got time yet to do a proper study of all these spices individually, what they all have in common is the crushing that they have to go through to bring out their flavour, sweetness and nice aroma.

The process of anointing involves crushing to bring out what’s inside of you. The crushing involves dying to self; your own agenda, desires, old self nature and shaping you into God’s character and it’s not always fun. MYRRH on its own is bitter but it doesn’t get to remain bitter. Mixed with the other spices, its bitterness fades away. You too don’t have to remain bitter because of all the things that you have been through. If carefully blended with the sweetness of what God has been doing in your life, you would find that you are not the same person you used to be a few years back.

Peter and the other apostles gave up a lot to follow Jesus. They had to die to their own agenda. They suffered but they were also greatly anointed to do great things for Christ. Off course nowadays, we get to see some people rise all of a sudden but just because they are rising does not mean that God is in it. As for you, be patient and… let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing (James 1:4 NKJV).

One of the signs that shows that you are about to walk in to the purpose of God for your life is that all of a sudden, everything that can be shaken in your life gets shaken so that what cannot be shaken may remain. It will seem like you are spinning around so fast and it’s something you can’t explain. It’s not like you are not praying and fasting earnestly but it seems like the Lord is not listening to you and as a result you start wondering whether He still answers prayers. Off course you know He does because you can witness Him answering everybody else’s prayers but yours. If you happen to be experiencing such at the moment, then know that you just might be at the Potter’s House where He is shaping and moulding you so that He can use you to accomplish His will.

Jeremiah said… This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: “Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.” So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. Then the word of the Lord came to me. He said, “Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?” declares the Lord. “LIKE CLAY IN THE HAND OF THE POTTER, SO ARE YOU IN MY HAND, Israel (Jeremiah 18:1-6 NIV).

LIKE CLAY IN THE HAND OF THE POTTER, SO ARE YOU IN MY HAND… and the reason why He is shaping you is to make you a vessel fit for His use. Now, just imagine that the pot refuses to stay still in the potters hands and tries to escape at every chance that it gets; can you not see how the process become even more difficult. The more it tries to escape, the more it gets marred and the process takes even longer. And I can just imagine the pot asking the potter why the process is taking so long. The Potter is bound to say it’s because you are not staying still.

If this is you, are you resisting this process or have you got a willing heart that is open to be changed? THE WHEEL OF GOD IS PREPARING YOU FOR THE WILL OF GOD. Instead of getting very frustrated about your life, why not focus on what God is doing and start asking God what He is up to. Ask for the grace and strength to stand still while He downloads His will which is perfect.

What do you do when caught up in a loop? You find yourself going round and round in circles doing the same thing over and over again without results. You find that you are stuck in one place and it seems there’s no way out.

As Moses recaps the Israelites journey in the wilderness, he said… “Then we turned around and headed back across the wilderness toward the Red Sea, just as the Lord had instructed me, and WE WANDERED AROUND IN THE REGION OF MOUNT SEIR FOR A LONG TIME. “Then at last the Lord said to me, ‘You have been wandering around in this hill country long enough; TURN TO THE NORTH (Deuteronomy 2:1-3 NLT).

Why did they turn around and head back for the wilderness? It was because when they were initially told to leave where they were, they complained about the journey ahead. They were afraid; they lacked courage because of the bad report brought back by those that went ahead of them; they were intimidated by giants and they failed to trust the Lord. It was a pity King David wasn’t around at the time to show them how to tackle giants.

What bad report have you received from the people that have failed to achieve what you are trying to achieve that is now causing you to wander around in circles instead of moving forward? The Lord gave them another chance and directed them to TURN TO THE NORTH and to prevent them from wasting their time and energy, I like that He told them the places they should not occupy because it belonged to other people (Deuteronomy 2:5,9). Perhaps that’s the direction you need.

Moses continued, “Then the Lord said to us, ‘GET MOVING. Cross the Zered Brook.’ So we crossed the brook. “THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS passed from the time we first left Kadesh-barnea until we finally crossed the Zered Brook… (Deuteronomy 2:13-14 NLT)

THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS… That’s how long it took them to wander and I can only think of the lame man by the pool of Bethesda. He had been lying there for THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS. His excuse was that… Someone else always gets there ahead of me.” Jesus told him, “STAND UP, PICK UP YOUR MAT, AND WALK!” (John 5:7-8 NLT)

Except you allow it, no one can get in the way of Jesus taking you to the higher level that He is calling you? The tradition of the environment this man found himself dictated that someone had to help him get there. What if they brought him a bad report each time? Jesus had to enlighten him; everyone here is in it for themselves. They all want to get out so you would be waiting a very long… STAND UP, PICK UP YOUR MAT, AND WALK

Is Jesus speaking to you? Pray for boldness and tenacity which is what you need.

“But suddenly, your ruthless enemies will be crushed like the finest of dust. Your many attackers will be driven away like chaff before the wind. SUDDENLY, IN AN INSTANT, I, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, will act for you with thunder and earthquake and great noise, with whirlwind and storm and consuming fire. All the nations fighting against Jerusalem will vanish like a dream! Those who are attacking her walls will vanish like a vision in the night (Isaiah 29:5-7 NLT).

When the enemy attacks, we often think God is slow to come to our aid but even before you cry out, He has already seen and heard your cries and would often say ‘be still and know that I am God’. God said to Moses… “I’ve taken A GOOD, LONG LOOK at the affliction of my people in Egypt. I’ve heard their cries for deliverance from their slave masters; I know all about their pain. And now I have come down to help them, pry them loose from the grip of Egypt… (Exodus 3:7-8 MSG)

With God, a GOOD, LONG LOOK often feels like it is a very, very, very LONG LOOK; one that may take many years in human eyes but God is also a ‘SUDDENLY, IN AN INSTANT’ God. After the Lord spoke to Moses, it took some time before they could see any kind of deliverance. In fact, their situation became worse and when God eventually moved on their behalf, it was quite scary. As they left Egypt, their enemies came after them in full force and it seemed there was no way of escape for them… but Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. THE EGYPTIANS YOU SEE TODAY WILL NEVER BE SEEN AGAIN (Exodus 14:13 NLT).

And we know the story, that same day, they watched as the enemies that had tormented them for many, many years drown in the red sea. As a kid, every Christmas we watched this classic movie on Moses, the Israelites and the red sea and it was quite a scene and it helped to visualise that moment when it all happened. Now picture those moments and then meditate on Isaiah 29:5-7. God is the same God yesterday, today and forever. Don’t you think He can do the same on your behalf? What battle are you fighting that Jesus hasn’t already won?

When the Lord brought back His exiles to Jerusalem, it was like a dream! We were filled with laughter, and we sang for joy. And the other nations said, “What amazing things the Lord has done for them.” (Psalm 126:1-2 NLT). They couldn’t believe it. May you also experience such laughter and joy in the mighty name of Jesus Christ… Amen

During one of my lectures, this old saying came up and off course it caught my attention and my mind drifted for a tiny little bit. What evidence would close witnesses like friends, neighbours, work colleagues, classmates or even family members give? Would you be allowed to walk away because there isn’t enough proof to charge you as a Christian?

I read somewhere about how someone visited a fellow church member in the office and as they referred to the person as Brother… so…so…so, his work colleagues burst into laughter because they were not aware that he was a Christian. For them to have burst into laughter means that this brother was living a life far short of what they would expect from a Christian. In his case, he didn’t have any evidence.

Apostle Paul was brought before King Agrippa and this is what he had to say… “King Agrippa, I CONSIDER MYSELF FORTUNATE to stand before you today as I make my defense against all the accusations of the Jews, and especially so because you are well acquainted with all the Jewish customs and controversies. Therefore, I beg you to listen to me patiently (Acts 26:2-3 NIV). Paul was happy that he was given the opportunity to defend his faith. He then starts by recounting his early life before he became a Christian, how he became a Christian and then his obedience to his calling after he became a Christian. And I love how he rounds up his speech… And King Agrippa knows about these things. I speak boldly, for I am sure these events are all familiar to him, FOR THEY WERE NOT DONE IN A CORNER! (Acts 26:26 NLT)

The Message translation says… THIS WASN’T DONE BEHIND THE SCENES… I’m sure Paul was trying to say that his life’s transformation has been an open book for all to see. It’s no secret at all.

IF YOU WERE ARRESTED FOR BEING A CHRISTIAN WOULD THERE BE ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO CHARGE YOU or would people say it can’t be. She’s the ring leader of the gossiping and complaint committee in the office or he is always fighting with everybody in our neighbourhood or we are always having to go and separate fights in their house or they throw the wildest and loudest party in our estate. Or is your evidence just that you go to church on Sunday? Let’s even raise the bar higher. We have a greater witness that testifies on our behalf… The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God (Romans 8:16 NKJV). What evidence is the Spirit giving?

There are some things we hear that should cause us to reflect on our Christian walk… Are you GUILTY OR NOT GUILTY?

God bless you
