As Jesus and his disciples approached Jerusalem, they came to the towns of Bethphage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent two of them on ahead. “Go into that village over there,” he told them. “As soon as you enter it, you will see a young DONKEY TIED there that NO ONE HAS EVER RIDDEN. UNTIE IT AND BRING IT HERE. If anyone asks, ‘What are you doing?’ just say, ‘The Lord needs it and will return it soon.’” (Mark 11:1-3 NLT)

I’m sure some people feel like their lives are like this poor donkey; tied up, feeling ignored as it stays there and watches other donkey’s been ridden by. They go out and come back to meet it in the same spot. Even when it tries to move, it can only go so far because it is restricted by the rope tied around its neck. There may have been feelings of frustration, loneliness, abandonment and rejection. That’s the bad news but the good news is that Jesus did not reject it. He had a plan for it. He knew exactly where it was. He knew it was tied down and apparently what may have seemed like abandonment and rejection to the donkey, Jesus saw as being reserved for a great purpose.

The donkey was reserved for a purpose and that was to usher Jesus into town where He would catch people’s attention; People who would turn around, stop what they are doing and praise Him and when it was time, Jesus served notice… UNTIE IT AND BRING IT HERE and they had no choice but to let it go… As they were untying it, some bystanders demanded, “What are you doing, untying that colt?” They said what Jesus had told them to say, and they were permitted to take it. (Mark 11:5-6 NLT)

No arguments… No fights… No questions asked. I like how the Message translation puts Luke’s version of this story… As they were untying the colt, ITS OWNERS SAID, “What are you doing untying the colt?” They said, “HIS MASTER NEEDS HIM” (Luke 19:31-34). I don’t know who or whatever thinks they own you… addiction… sin… bondage… whatever… Please know that once born again, you only have one Master and that is Jesus Christ. The enemy may think they’ve got you tied down but your Master has need for you and as He places a demand on your life, whatever or whoever has tied you down has no choice but to untie you and let you go.

30. August 2013 · Comments Off on NO SHORTCUTS · Categories: Choices, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Obedience, Patience, Victory

Have you ever found yourself taking a shortcut when driving just so you could reach your destination early only to find out that the shortcut wasn’t so short after all? Most times when stuck in traffic, I admire drivers that turn around to take an alternative route, but after getting lost so many times or ending up in an even greater traffic, I’ve learnt from experience to just stick to my original route.

Satan wants us to take shortcuts that lead to destruction. He tried it with Jesus. He… led Him up to a high place and showed Him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to Him, “I WILL GIVE YOU ALL THEIR AUTHORITY AND SPLENDOR; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. If You worship me, it will all be yours.” (Luke 4:5-7 NIV)

Apart from wanting Jesus to worship him, this temptation is for Jesus to excuse Himself from the God chosen path that lies ahead of Him. Jesus’ mission was to take back the keys of the kingdom from satan but He was to do it via the cross. Here, Jesus has been offered a shortcut to leave His cross behind for quick access to power but Jesus chose to receive from His father what is His Fathers to give. Satan has not stopped his tricks. He only packages them in different wrappings and offers them to us but this is only an attempt to get us off the track the Lord has chosen for us. However, choosing to go satan’s way is not the way to gain anything but to lose it. He gives with one hand and takes with ten.

There are so many things that the Lord has promised you but you are getting very impatient. You want to take shortcuts. Satan said… I WILL GIVE YOU ALL THEIR AUTHORITY AND SPLENDOUR. What authority? Jesus has that authority but see how He got it… He humbled Himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. THEREFORE, GOD ELEVATED HIM TO THE PLACE OF HIGHEST HONOR and gave Him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:8-11 NLT).

There’s always the tendency to want to take the easy path to growth and success without putting in the hard work. We don’t always like to sweat but sometimes opting for shortcuts means selling our soul to satan. The Lord desires to give you your heart desires but to submit to satan’s way of getting what you desire is to lose something greater. Beloved, WATCH OUT FOR SHORTCUTS THAT ARE NOT REALLY SHORTCUTS.

My daughter was telling me about an event she attended recently. The place was packed full to capacity and as a result, they started sending people back. Instead of turning back, she went and positioned herself somewhere inside the venue. One usher found her and told her to leave but then she told them… SORRY BUT I AM TOO BLESSED TO BE REJECTED. Obviously taken aback by her respond, the usher smiled and then said… ‘OK, wait here for me, I’ll be right back’. Another usher came along, also trying to get her to leave but again she said… SORRY BUT I AM TOO BLESSED TO BE REJECTED. Surprised, this other usher also smiled and told her to wait there. Soon enough, the first usher came back and told her to follow her. She had found a seat for her and as she sat down, the usher asked… ARE YOU HAPPY NOW? Yes, thank you, my daughter replied. WOW! That’s knowing who and whose you are and wanting something bad enough…

Are we too quick to back down when faced with opposition? Jesus was in town… four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. They couldn’t bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above His head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. SEEING THEIR FAITH, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.” (Mark 2:3-5 NLT)

Jesus also told us of the parable of the Persistent Widow who insisted on getting justice. She went to the wicked judge and demanded… ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’ And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’” (Luke 18:3-5 NKJV)

Jesus later asked… when the Son of Man comes, will He find [persistence in] faith on the earth? (Luke 18:8 AMP). Lord, I pray You will and I pray to be one of them. Don’t you? What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31 NIV)

SORRY BUT I AM TOO BLESSED TO BE REJECTED… That’s my new slogan from now on. Why not try it also and see doors open for you

Normally when you want to step out into a new career, you may visit companies that offer career advices services. They talk you through how to prepare your CV or go about setting up a business. Well… Joseph specialises in helping people like us trying to step out into their God-given purpose prepare their much needed CV. Get ready, and I will send you to them.” “I’M READY TO GO,” Joseph replied. “Go and see how your brothers and the flocks are getting along,” Jacob said. “THEN COME BACK AND BRING ME A REPORT.” So Jacob sent him on his way… (Genesis 37:13-14 NLT). A while later, Joseph sends his brothers to give his dad his report. He said…“hurry back to my father and tell him, ‘This is what your son Joseph says: God has made me master over all the land of Egypt… (Genesis 45:9 NLT).

Do you know one day you would have to give a report back to your Father in heaven? Stepping out into your purpose??? Pain… wilderness experience… and GOD’s Purpose go together. The things you experience leave some clues to your purpose. Have you got a CV?

27. August 2013 · Comments Off on IN MY LIFE LORD… BE GLORIFIED… · Categories: Fruit of the Spirit, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Worship

I was caught up in worship, just reflecting and marveling at what the Lord has been doing in my life and how He has been using me recently and I was singing this worship song that says;

In my life Lord
Be glorified, be glorified
In my life, Lord
Be glorified today.

And then I started thinking… In my life Lord… Be glorified? When we say things like this, what are we really saying? I’m thinking of Lazarus. He became very ill and his family sent for Jesus but… When Jesus received the message, He said, This sickness is not to end in death; but [on the contrary] it is to honor God and to promote His glory, THAT THE SON OF GOD MAY BE GLORIFIED THROUGH (BY) IT (John 11:4 AMP).

Jesus waited for Lazarus to die first before He showed up and when He raised Lazarus from the dead, the Lord was indeed glorified. Hmmm… do you know how many things had to die in my life before the Lord showed up? Not that He wasn’t paying attention… because in the case of Lazarus, nobody came to tell Him that Lazarus had died. In fact, He was the one that told His disciples… …Lazarus is dead, And for your sake I am glad that I was not there; it will help you to believe (to trust and rely on Me). However, let us go to him (John 11:14-15 AMP).

I’m also thinking of the Man Born Blind. I’m sure he couldn’t understand his predicament. People even started gossiping; They said its either his sin or his parents sin that had brought his blindness on him but… “It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered. “THIS HAPPENED SO THE POWER OF GOD COULD BE SEEN IN HIM (John 9:3 NLT).

And then, I’m also thinking of Jesus… close to the time He was to be betrayed and crucified… He looked toward heaven and prayed: “Father, the hour has come. GLORIFY YOUR SON, THAT YOUR SON MAY GLORIFY YOU (John 17:1 NIV).

In my life Lord… Be glorified? There are things that would have to die… your flesh… character… certain relationships… you name it but when the Lord is through with your case and resurrected what needs to be restored, He would indeed be glorified.

What has to die in your life for the Lord to be glorified? Jesus said… “Listen carefully: Unless a grain of wheat is buried in the ground, dead to the world, it is never any more than a grain of wheat. But if it is buried, it sprouts and reproduces itself many times over (John 12:24 MSG). It’s a process… For God knew His people in advance, and He chose them to become like His Son… And having chosen them, He called them to come to Him. And having called them, He gave them right standing with Himself. And having given them right standing, He gave them His glory (Romans 8:29-30 NLT).

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11 NLT).

God is a moving God. Don’t get stuck in the past. He sees the things that have happened to you. It’s not the end though… People come and go but His plan continues…

He said to Joshua… “Moses my servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them (Joshua 1:2 NLT).

He said to Samuel… “You have mourned long enough for Saul. I have rejected him as king of Israel, so fill your flask with olive oil and go to Bethlehem. Find a man named Jesse who lives there, for I have selected one of his sons to be my king” (1 Samuel 16:1 NLT).

Why are you crying over who the Lord has rejected for you? If God didn’t want you to have it then trust me you don’t want it/him/her. If He says NO then don’t get stuck behind that closed door. Move on and see what He has planned. After David’s adultery, He prayed and fasted for the child to stay alive but it didn’t work. However, he was quick to let go and… then David comforted Bathsheba, his wife, and slept with her. She became pregnant and gave birth to a son, and David named him Solomon. The Lord loved the child (2 Samuel 12:24 NLT). That child happened to be King Solomon.

As Jesus ascended into heaven, His disciples didn’t know what to do without Him in their midst so they stood there staring into empty space… As they strained to see Him rising into heaven, two white-robed men suddenly stood among them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday He will return from heaven in the same way you saw Him go!” (Acts 1:10-11 NLT)

Its not the end. The Lord’s plan continues but some of us are still standing behind a closed door. God wants you to turn around and see the door that is open in front of you. Stop being bitter and angry over what has happened. Move on and see what’s ahead. As you do so, I pray you run into the exceedingly, abundantly above all that you can ever ask or think.

25. August 2013 · Comments Off on ARE YOU TOTALLY DEPENDENT ON GOD? · Categories: Action, Jesus Christ, Obedience, Patience

Jesus came to give us salvation and to show us the way. He went through everything we could possible go through and that’s why we are told that… we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet He did not sin (Hebrews 4:15 NIV).

At the start of His public ministry… Jesus… was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them He was hungry (Luke 4:1 NIV) and His first temptation was to turn stone in to bread. We all know that at that point Jesus had a genuine need for food and was capable of providing food for Himself; after all He fed thousands in the wilderness. But Jesus understood one thing; that this request was not a challenge to be strong and use His powers to provide for Himself but to be INDEPENDENT OF GOD.

Hmmm… when I think of it, we are presented with many opportunities on a daily basis but how many of these opportunities are actually hidden requests to be independent of God. I remember listening to a woman of God share a story of how she was going through some challenges. Her lights were cut off and so she was in the dark. She had a genuine need so reached for her phone to call her mum to help but she immediately heard the Lord say… ‘if you do this now, you will forever keep running to mummy for help’.

The story challenged me so I tried it. Something major needed fixing in my house and my mum offered to help. I told her… NO… keep your money. She couldn’t understand why I would not accept her offer but it was between me and God. Dear friends, I succeeded on that occasion but I would be telling a lie if I say since then I haven’t ran to her for assistance, and this is without waiting to see what God will do.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t go to people for help when we have a genuine need but many times, we try to make things happen for ourselves without realising we are falling for the same old ‘TURN STONE INTO BREAD’ trick of the enemy. It’s even worse when we have been given power and we use that power in a way that makes us independent of God. Such independence leads to failure.

Isn’t there a reason why Jesus says we must ask for our daily bread in prayer? Is this because we need to show that we are totally dependent on Him? Are you? Today, why not ask Him to show you if there are ways you are standing on your own.

Jesus asked His disciples… “WHO DO YOU SAY I AM?” Simon Peter answered, “YOU ARE THE MESSIAH, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD.” Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because My Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. NOW I SAY TO YOU THAT YOU ARE PETER (which means ‘rock’)… (Matthew 16:15-18 NLT).

‘Identity crisis’ is a period in a person’s life characterised by uncertainty and confusion; a time when one is uncertain about who they really are and what they’ve been placed on this earth to do. This happens to many people and as a result they answer what other people call them; they allow people define them. They end up having multiple personalities because they want to please everybody. They also look to various things to give them their identity… success, power, wealth, control, outward beauty… you name it. But like we see in Peter’s case, when you tell Jesus who He is to you, He in turn tells you who you are.

If only we could put in as much of the effort that we spend in chasing after people and trying to gain their approval… If we could channel that effort into seeking Jesus and getting a revelation of who He really is, then be sure to find your identity in Him… ‘For in Him we live and move and have our being… (Acts 17:28 NIV) and He has said… apart from Me you can do nothing (John 15:5 NIV).

So… If in Him you live and move, then the answer to the question about where you are going should be where He is going… stop fighting for the driving seat…

Stop trying to seek people’s approval. That’s how you find freedom to be who God has called you to be. You will find you are no longer afraid to even fail… what will people say? What about what Jesus will say. He knows you might fail. He also knows you will get back up. He said… Simon, Simon (Peter), listen! Satan has asked excessively that [all of] you be given up to him [out of the power and keeping of God], that he might sift [all of] you like grain, BUT I HAVE PRAYED ESPECIALLY FOR YOU [Peter], that your [own] faith may not fail; AND WHEN YOU YOURSELF HAVE TURNED AGAIN, strengthen and establish your brethren (Luke 22:31-32 AMP).

If you are in any kind of identity crisis and tired of people tossing you about, why not turn to Jesus. Start by spending quality time in worship…Tell Him… Lord, you are the Alpha and the Omega… the Lion of the tribe of Judah… my redeemer… And then He would turn around and say O yeah… You are…… allow Him fill the gaps.

Apostle John who wrote the Book of Revelation was shown great revelations about things to come. He had this to say… I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice which I had heard addressing me… said, COME UP HERE, AND I WILL SHOW YOU WHAT MUST TAKE PLACE IN THE FUTURE. At once I came under the [Holy] Spirit’s power… (Revelation 4:1-2 AMP). The New Living Translation says…AND INSTANTLY I WAS IN THE SPIRIT… while the Message translation says… I WAS CAUGHT UP AT ONCE IN DEEP WORSHIP…

And his eyes were indeed open to the kind of worship that takes place in heaven. In fact, the whole chapter is dedicated to describing it but then the next chapter records John crying over NOTHING.John said… I began to weep bitterly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll and read it. But one of the twenty-four elders said to me, “Stop weeping! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the heir to David’s throne, HAS WON THE VICTORY. He is worthy to open the scroll and its seven seals.” (Revelation 5:4-5 NLT).

Really? Oh OK… I’m sure John must have said… why am I crying then? Everyone here is busy worshiping God and I’m here crying over nothing. The Amplified says Jesus has… OVERCOME AND CONQUERED… Isn’t this what Jesus was trying to tell them when He said… I have told you all this so that you may have peace in Me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD.” (John 16:33 NLT)

For John to get a revelation like this, he was not walking in the flesh but in the spirit. The flesh will tell you all the things that are wrong now but working in a spiritual dimension gives you insight into what the Lord is doing and the unstoppable victory regardless of your situation. WHILE JEREMIAH WAS STILL CONFINED in the courtyard of the guard, the Lord gave him this second message: “This is what the Lord says—the Lord who made the earth, who formed and established it, whose name is the Lord: Ask me and I WILL TELL YOU REMARKABLE SECRETS YOU DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THINGS TO COME (Jeremiah 33:1-3 NLT).

The Lord wants you to come higher and like someone said, there’s no way you would go into His bedroom; the throne room of heaven and not come out pregnant. And when pregnant, you are expectant. Morning sickness or not; no matter how difficult the pregnancy is, your focus is on the baby to come. How do you gain access to His bedroom? True worship; allowing… the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves (Galatians 5:16 NLT).

You need to focus on developing your spiritual man so you are not tossed about by things going on around you.

A song writer wrote… Forever You will be the Lamb upon the throne. I GLADLY BOW MY KNEES and I worship You alone…

I GLADLY BOW MY KNEES… Some say ‘THE KNEE’ but the million dollar question is… what about your heart? I remember someone saying you can be on your knees in worship… you can even lie flat on your stomach while your heart is standing tall. How? Let’s take a look at two examples in the Bible…

We know of King Saul who disobeyed God but still had a thanksgiving service in church to thank the Lord for what He had done. He said… my troops BROUGHT IN THE BEST of the sheep, goats, cattle, and plunder to sacrifice to the Lord your God in Gilgal.” But Samuel replied, “WHAT IS MORE PLEASING TO THE LORD: YOUR BURNT OFFERINGS AND SACRIFICES OR YOUR OBEDIENCE TO HIS VOICE? Listen! OBEDIENCE IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE, and SUBMISSION IS BETTER THAN OFFERING the fat of rams (1 Samuel 15:21-22 NLT).

On the other hand we have Abraham. The Lord said… Abraham, go on… sacrifice your son to Me and please make no mistakes about it; I mean… Isaac, whom you love so much (Genesis 22:2 NLT).

OK Sir… I’ll do as You say. Abraham even referred to it as worship. He told his servants… “The boy and I will travel a little farther. WE WILL WORSHIP THERE, and then we will come right back.” (Genesis 22:5 NLT)

God was not for one bit interesting in him sacrificing Isaac but He allowed Abraham go through the whole ceremony to see what was in his heart… Abraham built an altar… tied his son, Isaac, and laid him on the altar… Abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice. At that moment the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!… Don’t lay a hand on the boy!… “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.” (Genesis 22:9-12 NLT)

Jesus is not interested in what’s in our hands or our outward display of worship but what’s in our heart. OBEDIENCE… SUBMISSION… these are the things the Lord looks at when we come to Him in worship. Abraham gave his heart to the Lord. Are you giving your heart?
