Yesterday evening, a friend and I were talking about all the things life has thrown at us and then when I mentioned how those things had motivated me to start writing, she said she too had recently been moved to write things down. I told her it would make a ‘best seller’ because people would not believe that anyone can go through what she’s been through and still be standing. My advice to her was to start asking God why He has stood firmly by her side.

I’ve learnt that when you experience trials, you are not defeated by the trial itself but by how you response to it. Some would either turn to drugs, end up in a mental institution or commit suicide. That’s satan’s plan by the way. Other’s would turn things around and show people that if Jesus can do this for me, He sure can do the same for you.

Jesus said… “SIMON, SIMON, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, SIMON, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, STRENGTHEN YOUR BROTHERS.” (Luke 22:31-32 NLT)

When Jesus first called Simon, He changed his name to Peter which means ‘ROCK’. But here, Jesus calls him ‘SIMON’ as if to say… “I’m not referring to Peter the ‘ROCK’. I’m referring to the weak side of you. On your way to becoming Peter, satan would attack SIMON. He would try everything to stop SIMON from becoming Peter.

The Amplified Bible says… Satan has asked excessively that [all of] you be given up to him [out of the power and keeping of God]… Why would satan be so desperate if he’s not afraid of the effect your ministry would have on his kingdom?

But Jesus said; that’s ok! I’m behind you praying for you… I can stop satan if I want to but you need the experience so that you can… STRENGTHEN YOUR BROTHERS. That should be the end result of every trial… You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, THE SAVING OF MANY LIVES (Genesis 50:20 NIV).

Today, I look at my friend and can only laugh when I remember back in the days when we were jumping around dancing to Hip Hop Puree (Ho! Hey!)… not knowing the plans satan had to sift us like wheat but today here I am telling people what God is up to… and that’s because when tragedy hit me, I had to turn around and ask Him the same question.

If you are reading this today, please understand that you have a ministry. Jesus has called everyone to take the gospel to the end of the world. When Jesus called Peter, He said… “Follow Me, and I will MAKE YOU fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19 NKJV). What Jesus did not mention here was how He planned to MAKE Peter ‘a fishers of men’.

Please know that that situation which you’re thinking is the breaking of you is actually the MAKING of you… that is if you allow Jesus into the boat with you. Jesus is praying for you and so am I.

God bless you

David Oh King David; how he loved to be in the presence of the Lord! Growing up, he spent a lot of time in the presence of the Lord; writing songs, praising and just worshiping God. I’m sure that’s where he learnt all his special dance moves that embarrassed the life out of his wife.

But then there was Saul. Right from the very day he felt David was a threat, he did not allow the poor boy rest. David was always running for his life until Saul and his sons died and then he was eventually anointed king over all of Israel.

David had to fight some more enemies but immediately he had some peace, there was only one thing on his mind; the presence of God. Then David again gathered all the elite troops in Israel, 30,000 in all. He led them to Baalah of Judah to bring back the ARK OF GOD, which bears the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, who is enthroned between the cherubim. (2 Samuel 6:1-2 NLT).

And not just that. David’s next mission was to build a ‘house’ for the Lord to live in… When King David was settled in his palace and the Lord had given him rest from all the surrounding enemies, the king summoned Nathan the prophet. “Look,” David said, “I am living in a beautiful cedar palace, but the Ark of God is out there in a tent!” (2 Samuel 7:1-2 NLT)

The Lord had to stop him. “David, are you the one to build a house for me to live in?

David was the King of all of Israel, but his heart’s desire was seeking after the things of God first. Shouldn’t this be the case for us too? That is to… seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well (Matthew 6:33).

What things? Oh… The Ark of the Lord came with blessings. We know David ran into some problems when transporting the Ark so out of fear he left it with Obed-edom… but then King David was told, “The Lord has blessed Obed-edom’s household and everything he has because of the Ark of God.” So David went there and brought the Ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the City of David with a great celebration. (2 Samuel 7:1-2 NLT)

LOL…give me back what belongs to me.

We tend to get our priorities mixed up and run after the very things that should be running after us. Deuteronomy 28:2 (AMP) says… And all these blessings shall come upon you and OVERTAKE you if you heed the voice of the Lord your God.

Today, Jesus is saying “seek Me first and see what will follow”. Are you going to heed to His voice?

God bless you

Have you ever been in a position where you find yourself saying to God; Lord, though I was angry with You at the time, but now when I look back and see how things have turned out, I just want to say A BIG THANK YOU for not answering my prayers?

People always say God has three answers to your request; ‘YES’, ‘WAIT’ and ‘NO’. We all love to hear ‘YES’. We tend to struggle with ‘WAIT’… How long for? But ‘NO’ is one answer that’s hard to accept especially when you are a person that takes Psalm 37:4 (AMP) to heart … Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart.

You say, but I’m doing my best to please You. Why then are You saying NO? Ever been there?

Well… Psalm 84:11b (NLT) says… The Lord will withhold no GOOD THING from those who do what is right.

That is a promise! Jesus encourages us to ask and we will receive what we ask for. He said… “You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give GOOD GIFTS to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give GOOD GIFTS to those who ask Him (Matthew 7:9-11 NLT).

Ah… There’s that word; GOOD THING… GOOD GIFTS… So maybe you need to ask yourself… WHAT IF WHAT I WANT IS NOT GOOD FOR ME?

Only God knows… Maybe that thing you are asking for is a ‘stone’ or ‘snake’ in disguise. Don’t you think God loves you too much to grant that request?

And then you’ve also got to ask yourself this question; Does God really say NO? Growing up, there was this popular saying that ‘when God removes the carpet from under your feet, it’s because He wants to replace it with a rug’.

One of the signs of spiritual maturity is being able to say ‘Lord I trust you enough to know that You only have my best interest at heart and I am comfortable in allowing Your will to be done. I know you will withhold no GOOD THING from me. Please give me the grace to focus on the bigger picture of your plan’. The psalmist said… I have been young and now am old, yet have I not seen the [uncompromisingly] righteous forsaken or their seed begging bread (Psalm 37:25 AMP).

Please know that the Lord has not forsaken you and in due season may you be able to say ‘Lord thank you for the doors you shut in my life because they made me turn around to see the Automatic Revolving doors that open up of their own accord on my arrival.

God bless you

Three things immediately come to mind when one says LET’S GO SHOPPING; For WHAT, WHERE (location) and with WHAT (money)?

As Christians, the Bible advises us to renew our minds (Romans 12:2) and one of the things to come to terms with is that you are a spirit being housed in a body which is just a container for your spirit while in this world. The real you is your spirit but as you currently live in this world, when the world says lets go shopping, you are inclined to think of a physical location; a shopping centre or mall and immediately there are limitations. However, you are not of this world (John 15:19). This is an advantage because while limited in the flesh, in the spirit, you are unlimited. So if you were to get out of shopping in your senses and start shopping in your spirit, then you will find out that the shopping mall becomes open to a whole world of possibilities.

FAITH is the currency used in this spiritual shopping mall. By FAITH, we see the world called into existence by God’s word, what we see created by what we don’t see (Hebrews 11:3 MSG).

For us this FAITH… is the assurance (the confirmation, the TITLE DEED) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses] (Hebrews 11:1 AMP).

A TITLE DEED is a document showing ownership of a property. Once in your hand, it’s proof that you own the property even if you haven’t seen it yet. The New Living Translation says… Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. In order words, if someone says; “show me proof that what you are hoping for would actually happen”, you can show them your FAITH… your TITLE DEED.

Here in the UK, Delivery dates for your order varies but once you’ve paid, you know it’s coming so you are expectant. It’s not a case of doubting whether it would arrive. It’s the same principle when you use FAITH.

In this spiritual shopping mall, there are all kinds of shops; everything you’ll ever need… God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ (Ephesians 1:3 NLT). His divine power has bestowed on us everything necessary for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3 AMP). You can use your FAITH to purchase from the shop of SALVATION (Ephesians 2:8). Delivery date for this one is instant.

You can shop for peace, joy, houses, cars, anything… but the question now becomes; faced with many choices and an unlimited resource (FAITH), which shop will you stop at first? Which shops will you visit regularly? Are there shops you would never enter?

Food For Thought: In the world, people tend to spend more money on things they value… What are you going to spend you FAITH on?

Happy shopping…

God bless you

I was telling my pastor a few days ago how it baffles me how the Lord has been revealing things to me before they happen and she said, “if you want to know the greatest gossip ever, it’s the HOLY SPIRIT”. He will wake you up in the middle of the night and say; do you want to know something I know? This is what this person is planning against you. Really? Shhh… So what do I do?

The Bible tells of a time the king of Aram was at war with Israel and he would repeatedly confer with his officers to try and attack Israel but someone kept letting their secret out.

So… The king of Aram became very upset over this. He called his officers together and demanded, “Which of you is the traitor? Who has been informing the king of Israel of my plans?” “It’s not us, my lord the king,” one of the officers replied. “Elisha, the prophet in Israel, tells the king of Israel even the WORDS YOU SPEAK IN THE PRIVACY OF YOUR BEDROOM!” (2 kings 6:11-12)

It’s not us… It’s Elisha… and how did Elisha get to find out?

It’s not always a good thing when you have a gossip as a friend. They tell your business to others and vice versa but Jesus said this of the Holy Spirit… When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own but will tell you what He has heard. HE WILL TELL YOU ABOUT THE FUTURE. (John 16:13 NLT)

I tell you… if there’s one friend in your life that you need to be a gossip… that is a good one… and a confidant at the same time, it is the Holy Spirit. While those so called friends that gossip about you only have information about your past and present (and they don’t even know the full story), the Holy Spirit knows everything… your past, present and future. He knows the hearts of the people around you and He is very good at warning you when there’s danger ahead. He will even tell you what to say… “And when you are brought to trial in the synagogues and before rulers and authorities, don’t worry about how to defend yourself or what to say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what needs to be said.” (Luke 12:11-12 NLT)

This is why you should always pray with the help of the Holy Spirit for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought… (Romans 8:26)

Today, why not decide to make the Holy Spirit your best friend. Tell Him that you’re ready to pay attention to what He has to say. You would be amazed by the things He would reveal to you. It’s worth a try!

A few days ago, I received one of those fraudulent emails. The subject was “CHARITY PROJECT” and it read;

“My wife Violet and I Allen Large won 11.3M USD in a lottery 6-49 in July, 2010 and we have decided to donate the sum of 2M USD to you. Contact us via our personal email for more details (xxxx@xxx.com ). You can verify our story by visiting the web page below.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/story/2010/11/04/ns-allen-violet-large-lottery-winning.html

LOL… I’VE TAKEN THE EMAIL ADDRESS OUT SO YOU DON’T FALL FOR THEIR TRICK AND CONTACT THEM.

One of those emails right? I didn’t take much notice of it but that night as I went to bed, it came across my mind again and I couldn’t help but wonder; what if this isn’t a fraud? What if it’s God’s answer to my prayers? After all, nothing is impossible for the Lord to do and He can use anybody to bless you. I immediately started thinking of all the things I would do with the money; give back to the Lord, buy my church a building, pay off my mortgage and debts and that of my family and friends, quit work and go into full time ministry. After all, this has been my prayer so Lord, if this is from you, show me a sign. LOL… I told you I’m not perfect. Please remember me in your prayers.

Well, I started laughing at myself… Yeah right! 2M dollars just like that. What have you been drinking? But then again I started thinking… Are you saying that there are things impossible for God to do? Are you really expecting God to answer your prayers?

What am I trying to say here? When you’ve been asking the Lord for something, are you really EXPECTANT?

I’m reminded of the time Peter was locked up in prison and… fervent prayer for him was persistently made to God by the church (Acts 12:15).

God answered their prayer but when Peter arrived at the house and the servant girl that opened the door told them who it was… they said to her, YOU ARE CRAZY! But she persistently and strongly and confidently affirmed that it was the truth. They said, IT IS HIS ANGEL! (Acts 12:15 AMP)

Really? So what were they expecting the outcome of their prayer to be? You need to ask yourself the same question.

There are times when one starts to sound like a broken record but the Lord keeps saying… IS THERE ANYTHING TOO HARD FOR ME TO DO? Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping—believing that he would become the father of many nations. For God had said to him, “That’s how many descendants you will have!” (Romans 4:18 NLT)

To be EXPECTANT means… having or showing an excited feeling that something is about to happen; A person who anticipates receiving something. Is this you? If not, why not be like that boy’s father that came to Jesus to heal his son. Today, ask Jesus to help you overcome your unbelief (Mark 9:24) or like the Amplified Bible put it… help my weakness of faith!

God bless you

Anyway, someone said the other day that Lazarus had to die in order for him to be seen. I laughed but when you think of it, in a funny way, there’s some truth in it. John 12:1-2 (NLT) says … Six days before the Passover celebration began, Jesus arrived in Bethany, the home of Lazarus—the man He had raised from the dead. A dinner was prepared in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, and LAZARUS WAS AMONG THOSE WHO ATE WITH HIM.

Before then, it was only Mary and Martha you heard about… Jesus came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what He taught. And then they had this big fight about who should be in the kitchen with no mention of Lazarus (Luke 10:38-42)

Caught between two sisters, you only heard of Lazarus when he was sick and about to die. And then he dies.

But after he was raised from the death… John 12:9 (NLT) says… When all the people heard of Jesus’ arrival, they flocked to see him AND ALSO TO SEE LAZARUS, the man Jesus had raised from the dead.

LOL. Now he drew a crowd… Many in the crowd had seen Jesus call Lazarus from the tomb, raising him from the dead, and they were telling others about it. That was the reason so many went out to meet Him—because they had heard about this miraculous sign. Then the Pharisees said to each other, “There’s nothing we can do. Look, everyone has gone after Him!” (John 12:17-19 NLT)

Today, there are many people complaining to the Lord… what are you up to? When is it going to be my time? When is it going to be my big break? But the Lord is saying; that pride, that anger, that selfish motive of yours needs to die first.

Jesus wants you to be a vessel through which people come to Him. They are meant to be drawn close to Him by observing the marvellous work He is doing in your life. Your life has to preach the greatest sermon to people.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Will your character drive them away?

Today, why not ask the Lord to show you WHAT HAS TO DIE FOR YOU TO BE SEEN. And as you do so, I pray you receive the strength to lay aside everything that so easily ensnares you (Hebrews 12:1).

In 1993, I was involved in a ghastly motor accident. In fact, I had two accidents in one day. With the first one, I had just started learning how to drive and with only one lesson, I was trying to show off but immediately I pressed the gas pedal, my friend’s mum’s car got very well acquainted with the brick fence. And then later on that night, as I was going home, the vehicle I was in ran into a stationed bus. Lord have mercy; I’ve never seen so many body parts in my life. There was blood everywhere.

The thing is that before the first accident, my friends and I were just lazing about town. We had seen this lady with skin as smooth as a baby’s bottom so we decided to storm the shops. We wanted to achieve such skin perfection. If it didn’t come naturally then there’s nothing money can’t buy right?

You won’t believe that while almost everyone died, I survived with only a tiny scratch on my face that now looks like a tribal mark; the same face that I had spent so much money earlier on trying to achieve perfection. Was the Lord trying to tell me something?

Till date, I often wonder what would have happened if I had died that day. Don’t get me wrong, I had given my life to Christ but then I was staying on and off with a man I wasn’t married to yet and I used to do the clubs and all that. I knew what I was doing was wrong. Those were the days you used to hear preaching that would prick your conscience not like today. Anyway, I thought I was smart. I used to say I would enjoy myself and when I know I’m about to die I would quickly ask for final forgiveness. After all the sinner on the cross was that lucky right? My dear friends, my plan would have backfired. I didn’t even know I was involved in an accident until I woke up. All I heard was a loud noise and that was it. I was unconscious.

What if I had died that day? What would I have said to Jesus? Would I have said well, You died and released grace for me so that I could continue sinning?

How would He have replied? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? (Romans 6:1) or would He have said depart from me, I do not know you. Just pondering.

I thank God today that I’m alive and able to reflect and make amends.

I’ve had 4 near death experiences and each time the Lord has miraculously rescued me and He had to remind me a few years back when I was moaning over all the things wrong with my life. But in all 4 cases, the story would have been the same; where would I have ended up?

Today the devil has so blinded people’s eyes to the truth but if you happen to be reading this today, you are privileged to be able to reflect on your life. I pray that Jesus ministers to you in a way that only He can because Heaven and hell is real.

God bless you

I remember my brother’s wedding some years back. The day before, my mum being the perfectionist that she is made sure she packed everything we needed including a bag of serving spoons which she left by the front door so we would not forget it. There’s no way we could ever miss that right? Guess what? We did and we didn’t get to find out until we got to the church. Who did they send back to fetch the bag? Moi; I was told to go back and get it immediately after the church service.

NO!… But by the time I get back, I would have missed the best part of the wedding reception; the couple’s entrance dance. However, I had no choice but to drive all the way home and as I opened the door, I was welcomed by a burning smell. I got to the kitchen only to find that we had forgotten something on the cooker. Now can you imagine what would have happened if I hadn’t gone back? The wedding reception finished after midnight and we left the house in the morning.

It’s interesting to read how disappointed David was when he found out he was not allowed to go to war with the Philistines. He couldn’t understand why… “What have I done to deserve this treatment?” David demanded. “What have you ever found in your servant, that I can’t go and fight the enemies of my lord the king?” (1 Samuel 29:8 NLT)

Well, he didn’t get to go so had to go back home but… when David and his men arrived home at their town of Ziklag, they found that the Amalekites had made a raid into the Negev and Ziklag; they had crushed Ziklag and burned it to the ground. They had carried off the women and children and everyone else… (1 Samuel 30:1-2 NLT).

David came back to find that they had been raided. Can you imagine if he had gone to war? Only God knows how long it would have lasted. But because he came back early, he was able to pursue the Amalekites and found them spread out across the fields, eating and drinking and dancing with joy because of the vast amount of plunder they had taken.

David got back everything the Amalekites had taken, and he rescued his two wives. Nothing was missing: small or great, son or daughter, nor anything else that had been taken. David brought everything back. (1 Samuel 30:18-19 NLT)

We don’t always understand what God is up to when things don’t go our way but if He opens our eyes to see how He protects us daily, we would be forever grateful. Psalm 121:7-8 (NLT) says – The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.

Don’t you think it’s time to say; Lord I don’t know what you’re up to but I know you’ve got my back. What I think is a disappointment is working out for my good. As you do so, I pray you experience the kind of peace that Jesus is offering you right now.

Yesterday I started talking about being a different person after encountering Jesus. Today, I want to talk about the transformation process. For want of a better word, let me say I used to be a ‘Sunday Christian’ until about 3 years ago when my whole world was turned upside down. The day is coming when I’ll share my testimony but at the time all I could think of was ‘Lord, WHAT ARE YOU UP TO?’ It was later I started realising that He was refining and purifying me like silver and gold (Zechariah 13:9).

Somehow, somewhere in your Christian walk, you may have to go through a pressing place where you are completely broken to bring out the best in you.

Jesus experienced this in the garden of gethsemane (Luke 22:39-46) and like an innocent lamb, He was taken to the cross where He was slain for our sins but when He resurrected, the people He hung around and ate together with could not recognise Him.

It started with Mary who spent a lot of time at His feet. Jesus met her by His grave crying… “Dear woman, why are you crying?” Jesus asked her. “Who are you looking for?” SHE THOUGHT HE WAS THE GARDENER. “Sir,” she said, “if you have taken Him away, tell me where you have put Him, and I will go and get Him.” “Mary!” Jesus said. She turned to Him and cried out, “Rabboni!” (which is Hebrew for “Teacher”) (John 20:15-16 NLT).

Not just her, even His disciples did not recognise Him… that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; BUT THEY WERE KEPT FROM RECOGNIZING HIM. (Luke 24:13-16 AMP)

You can’t go through a process of death and resurrection and people still recognise you. This should be the case for everyone that claim they have resurrected with Christ.

The New Living Translation says – ‘GOD KEPT THEM FROM RECOGNIZING HIM’. You may go through stages when people around you may not understand what God is doing but when the time is right, God knows how to reveal His handiwork. As you walk with Him, allowing the Holy Spirit to transform you, gradually all your bad habits begin to drop off and the fruits of the spirit… love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control… (Galatians 5:22-23 NLT) begin to manifest and before you know it, you become UNRECOGNISABLE . These are the things brokenness brings out of you.

Jesus, although He was a Son, He learned [active, special] obedience through what He suffered (Hebrews 5:8 AMP). There are people reading this that are going through a period of brokenness. Today, I pray that whatever you are going through works in your favour… that is to transform you into an UNRECOGNISABLE person so people around you can say indeed this person has had an encounter with Jesus.
