Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28 NLT).

Beloved, I remember a time when the Lord spoke these words to me. He went on to say “the stress that you have allowed to dominate your life has hampered your sensitivity to My Spirit. BE STILL, My beloved. Release all that has become a burden… you must come to Me and cast your cares on Me. Allow Me to sweep away all that has hindered your walk and obstructed your view. Come now, and begin again. Let Me awaken you morning by morning; let Me awaken your ear to hear My voice so that I may lead you into a place of PEACE AND RESTORATION.”

Beloved, this was an area the Lord revealed was hindering me but at the peak of your trials, when all hell is breaking loose, these are not the words you want to hear. Why aren’t You coming to my aid? BE STILL??? I fought the Lord on this one. How can I be still in the midst of all this chaos? But the Lord would not budge. BE STILL and know that I’m God, He said. I even remember waking up from sleep one morning to find I was reciting John 14:27… Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Beloved, why am I sharing this? Have you allowed worry to steal your peace? Unfortunately, the more you worry, the more negative things happen. Satan knows how to get a reaction from us and as far as we keep responding the way he desires, he would keep at it until we say no more.

The Lord wants us to come in to His rest to receive from Him. I once heard someone say he walked into the room to find his baby crying hysterically. What was wrong? Well, the baby was so hungry and then became very angry so wouldn’t calm down nor keep still so he could be fed, his wife said.

Isn’t this what God wants from us? To be still so we can hear and receive from Him. I’m thinking of Elijah… a great and strong wind rent the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire [A SOUND OF GENTLE STILLNESS AND] A STILL, SMALL VOICE (1 Kings 19:11-12 AMPC).

Beloved, it’s much easier to hear God when you are still. Worrying will not solve anything. It’s only a distraction. BE STILL! The Lord has plenty to tell you… Ask me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come (Jeremiah 33:3 NLT).

Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain. It is vain for you to rise early, To retire late, To eat the bread of anxious labors—For He gives [blessings] to His beloved even in his sleep (Psalm 127:1-2 AMP).

Beloved, there are times when we have a very busy schedule that it can become overwhelming.
and we think the only way out is just to plough our way through – we think we must just keep going till things get done but this becomes at the expense of our precious sleep and our relationships including our relationship with the Lord.

This isn’t intentional. Many of us have the mind to try and make the Lord our top priority, spending ample time with Him; waiting on Him for His wisdom for direction and also resting in Him but we still find that we struggle but a while ago, I remember listening to Israel Houghton, the famous gospel artist, preach about the priority Jesus takes in our lives based on his famous song; ‘Jesus at the centre’. He said the problem with making Jesus our number one priority is that whether we like to admit it or not, thing pop up and regardless of how hard we try, we sometimes find that He drops down to number two and even further down our priority list as we get even busier.

To resolve this problem, instead of having a top priority list where Jesus is number one, he drew a circle and said we should place Jesus at the centre of it all. That way he never drops from number one position but is a part of everything we do. He demonstrated this using a wonderful illustration and I’m not sure whether I’ve explained it as well as he did but instead of having your top ten priorities listed one below the other, picture them spread around the edge of a circle and Jesus is at the centre of that circle. That way He becomes even a part of your eating and sleeping.

Also, my Study Bible notes say that “God is not against human effort but working to the exclusion of rest or to the neglect of family may be a cover up for an inability to trust God to provide for our needs. We all need adequate rest and times of spiritual refreshment. On the other hard this is not an excuse to be lazy. Be careful to maintain a balance: Work while trusting God, and also rest while trusting Him”.

Beloved, our feature text says the Lord… gives [blessings] to His beloved even in his sleep. The message translation says… it’s useless to rise early and go to bed late, and work your worried fingers to the bone. Don’t you know He enjoys giving rest to those He loves?

When you make the Lord your centre priority, you can go to rest knowing that He is working on your behalf and when you wake up, you find that you are refreshed and that He has put things in place which then requires less of your human effort.

As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him? Day and night I have only tears for food, while my enemies continually taunt me, saying, “Where is this God of yours?” (Psalm 42:1-3 NLT)

Beloved, have you ever been very thirsty and longed for water during a very hot day? Have you noticed that on such occasions, it doesn’t matter how many cans of soft drink you consume, if it’s not water, it’s not water; it doesn’t quench your thirst and you find that immediately you come across some water (for me it’s ice water), it’s hard to describe the feeling of the cold water going down your throat.

That’s the picture I get when meditating on our feature text. It also reminds me of the famous worship song that says… ‘AS THE DEER PANTS FOR WATER SO MY SOULS LONGS AFTER YOU…’, and I remember the Holy Spirit ministering to me once as I worshiped with this song… “How does the deer pant for water?”, He asked. At the time, I wasn’t sure but I had to do some research and so here we go:

A deer pants (strongly desires) for streams of water because they’ve been in the desert; have been dried and heated up from the bites of destroying serpents. Also pursued by dogs, they escape into the water to hide. There, their scent is hidden and the enemy cannot find them; the water becomes a place of safety. So, in a nutshell, the desperate deer longs for a stream of water to quench 1) its thirst; 2) heal from any wounds as the water helps to stop its bleeding wound; 3) to find protection from its enemies; 4) refresh itself and find renewed strength.

Beloved, Psalms 42 is believed to be written by King David when driven from his country by his enemies. Interestingly, his soul didn’t pant after the comfort of his palace. Rather, his only wish was to be in the temple worshiping God. He sees his communion with God as an urgent need of his soul; as an absolute necessity as only God can quench his thirst… only God can shield him from his enemies and heal his wound as his enemy was probably his ungrateful son, Absalom.

So, beloved, with a better understanding of what it is to pant after water, we should be able to say… “You alone are my strength my shield, To You alone may my spirit yield… You alone are my heart’s desire and I long to worship thee…”

Beloved, just like only water could quench your physical thirst, only the Lord can quench your spiritual thirst and heal the wounds of your life and Today, Jesus is saying… “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink! 38 He who believes in Me [who adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Me], as the Scripture has said, ‘From his innermost being will flow continually rivers of living water.’” (John 7:37-38 AMP)

Then he went on alone into the wilderness, traveling all day. He sat down under a solitary broom tree and prayed that he might die. “I HAVE HAD ENOUGH, LORD,” he said. “Take my life, for I am no better than my ancestors who have already died.” (1 Kings 19:4 NLT)

Beloved, these are the words of Prophet Elijah who had just finished calling down fire from heaven to consume a very wet sacrifice, humiliated Baal, the people’s god and killed 450 of its prophets and then called down rain after three and a half years of no rain. He had just finished doing great things for God but then here comes the enemy with what he knows how to do best; intimidation, frustration, depression, weariness… Jezebel threatened to kill him so he ran away as fast as he could to find a place to hide and now he wants to end it all.

Are you feeling like Elijah felt? Feeling down? Is the enemy bombarding your mind with rubbish, trying to get you to focus on the negative rather than on the great things God is doing in your life? Have you had enough and just want to give up? Have you withdrawn in to your shell? Well… thank God that He is Omnipresence and He knows where you are hiding. The Lord found Elijah in the cave where he was hiding and… said to him, “WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE, ELIJAH?” (1 king 19:9)

Could the Lord be asking you the same question today? Perhaps you are feeling down because you think that all your efforts have come to nothing but God is asking, “What are you doing in this lonely place after all you’ve achieved?” Several times the Lord asked Elijah the same question (See 1 king 19:9-14).

Elijah replied, “I have zealously served the Lord God Almighty. But the people of Israel have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed every one of your prophets. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me, too.” (1 Kings 19:10 NLT)

Elijah was about to give up based on the lie of the enemy. The Lord told Elijah, you’re not the only one… I will preserve 7,000 others in Israel who have never bowed down to Baal or kissed him!” (1 Kings 19:18 NLT)

Beloved, by now you should know how the enemy works. Know that there are great things ahead. What you need is for Jesus to energise you… Then the angel of the Lord came again and touched him and said, “Get up and eat some more, or the journey ahead will be too much for you.” (1 Kings 19:7 NLT).

Maybe you need time to recuperate but whatever you do, don’t give up.

May we never tire of doing what is good and right before our Lord because in His season we shall bring in a great harvest if we can just persist (Galatians 6:9 Voice).

Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it. And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven… (Matthew 16:18-19 NLT)

Beloved, this is one scripture I hold close to my heart because it’s one of my personal prophecies and when the Lord says I will give you keys, while you are expecting to just open your hands to receive, His plan is to actually walk you through some things that would grant you assess to the realm of the Kingdom of Heaven.

When we read Scriptures like this we expect something major, but the more I meditate on it, I am getting the revelation that one of the keys of the kingdom is simply peace.

In 2011, at the peak of going through some major trials, the Lord asked me to be still. “Be still?” Now, these are not the words you want to hear when all hell is breaking loose. I really fought God on this one but He insisted I should be still and I remember waking up from sleep one morning to find that I was reciting these words that Jesus spoke… “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27 NIV)

Beloved, it took me a while but I finally took hold of this key and it prepared me for future storms.

In our feature text, the Lord told Peter I will give you the keys to the kingdom and like me, when Peter along with the other disciples first experienced a storm with Jesus, Jesus… was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “PEACE, BE STILL!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm (Mark 4:38-39 NKJV).

“PEACE, BE STILL!” How can PEACE calm down a storm? Peter probably couldn’t comprehend how this was possible but after walking with Jesus for a while, he mastered this key and later on, in the midst of his own personal storm, locked in prison and to be assassinated the next day, like Jesus, Peter was found fast asleep till an angel of the Lord came to His rescue… They passed the first and second guard posts and came to the iron gate leading to the city, and this opened for them all by itself. So they passed through… (Acts 12:10 NLT).

Peter received the key of peace and it opened the door to the iron gate that locked him up; gates of hell that could not prevail

Beloved, the kingdom of God is… righteousness and PEACE and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17 NKJV) so I urge you to MASTER THE ACT OF PEACE and… do all that you can to live in peace with everyone (Romans 12:18 NLT).

Jacob said to Joseph, “God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me. He said to me, ‘I will make you fruitful, and I will multiply your descendants. I will make you a multitude of nations. And I will give this land of Canaan to your descendants after you as an everlasting possession.’ (Genesis 48:3-4 NLT)

The above conversation took place between Jacob and Joseph towards the end of his life where he is telling his son about the covenant promise the Lord made to their family but because life happened to Jacob, it took this long for Him to remember this promise and I bet it’s only now he starts to sees things differently. This was a man that had a personal encounter with the Lord where He revealed the promise but the moment Jacob though his son was dead, he decided it was all over, failing to realise that it didn’t matter what the situation looked like, all things were working out all along for his good (Romans 8:28).

Despite the Lord’s promise, Jacob focused on problems and so decided to live a depressed life. When He thought Joseph was dead… His family all tried to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. “I will go to my grave mourning for my son,” he would say, and then he would weep (Genesis 37:35 NLT). Later, he told Pharaoh… “I have lived 130 long, hard years, and I am not nearly as old as many of my ancestors.” (Genesis 47:9 TLB)

Jacob settled for a miserable life all because he believed in the situation presented before Him rather than the Lord’s promises. When he was eventually reunited with Joseph… Jacob said to Joseph, “I never thought I would see your face again, but now God has let me see your children, too!” (Genesis 48:11 NLT).

I read something interesting that Jacob told Joseph as he blessed Joseph’s sons. He said… THE GOD WHO HAS BEEN MY SHEPHERD [leading and caring for me] all my life to this day… bless the boys; (Genesis 48:15-16 AMP).

Really, Jacob? THE GOD WHO HAS BEEN MY SHEPHERD? Hmmm… Psalm 23 comes to mind… The Lord is my shepherd… He leads me… He guides me… Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me (Psalm 23:1-4 NIV).

So, Jacob, if the Lord is really your Shepherd,‎ why not just trust His leading… His comfort? Because even when He takes you through the darkest valley, it still leads to where He’s taking you.

Beloved, many of us can recite Psalm 23 but let’s not be like Jacob living it till the last minute to find peace. The Lord is either your Shepherd or He isn’t. If He is, then TRUST THE PATH HE LEADS YOU THROUGH and find peace and rest for your soul.

So the Eternal God put him into a deep sleep, removed a rib from his side, and closed the flesh around the opening. HE FORMED A WOMAN from the rib taken out of the man AND PRESENTED HER TO HIM… AT LAST, A SUITABLE COMPANION, A PERFECT PARTNER. Bone from my bones. Flesh from my flesh. I will call this one “woman” as an eternal reminder that she was taken out of man (Genesis 2:21-23 VOICE).

AT LAST, A SUITABLE COMPANION, A PERFECT PARTNER… Reading this, I couldn’t help but feel Adam’s sigh of relief. After searching through all the animals, he found her! LOL… but I’m not just trying to be funny, the Bible says… out of the same ground the man was made from, the Eternal God sculpted every sort of animal and every kind of bird that flies up in the sky. Then He brought them to the man and gave him the authority to name each creature as he saw fit: whatever he decided to call it, that became its name. Thus the man chose names for domesticated animals, birds, and wild beasts. But none of these creatures was a right and proper partner for Adam (Genesis 2:19-20 VOICE).

However,… At LAST, A SUITABLE COMPANION, A PERFECT PARTNER… As I read this, I couldn’t help but say this prayer for all the single people out there truly searching for an ideal partner… May your search be over‏ in 2016. May this be your testimony… AT LAST, A SUITABLE COMPANION, A PERFECT PARTNER. You won’t call her beast, dog… but you will call her “my woman”.

HE FORMED A WOMAN… AND PRESENTED HER TO HIM… Single women, do your best to yield to the forming. That SUITABLE COMPANION, A PERFECT PARTNER is somewhere out there waiting for you and the Lord is preparing you for Him because He knows exactly how to mould you so you fit that SUITABLE COMPANION, A PERFECT PARTNER that’s just for you.

And as for you single men, what are you focusing on? Interestingly, I was reading about when Isaac was about to get married… One evening when he went out to the field to think [meditate; reflect; or walk], he looked up [raised his eyes] and saw camels coming. Rebekah also looked [raised her eyes] and saw Isaac… (Genesis 24:63-65 EXB).

Hmmm… Isaac looked up and saw camels while Rebekah looked up and saw Isaac. Men are usually known to chase after a livelihood before settling down; some to the point that it becomes an excuse for not settling but for Adam to find a suitable wife, he was made to rest. It is my prayer that you find rest in the Lord while He perfects all that concerns you… MAY YOUR SEARCH BE OVER‏…

And if already married and you are experiencing anything short of the Lord’s original plan for marriage Genesis 2:24), I pray for total restoration of your unity, you joy, your peace… MAY YOUR SEARCH BE OVER‏…

10. January 2016 · Comments Off on DON’T RELY ON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING‏ · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Promise, Rest, Thoughts, Trusting God

Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, and He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way] (Proverbs 3:5-6 AMP).

Are you someone that even when the Lord makes a promise, you try to figure out how it’s going to happen? Considering what’s in front of you, you’re left thinking “but how can it happen? It certainly can’t happen this way because that road is blocked and definitely not that way because…”

Maybe not you but I have. Well, I and Abraham. The Lord promises to bless Abraham… But Abram replied, “O Sovereign Lord, what good are all your blessings when I don’t even have a son? Since you’ve given me no children, Eliezer of Damascus, a servant in my household, will inherit all my wealth. You have given me no descendants of my own, so one of my servants will be my heir.” (Genesis 15:2-3 NLT)

So, the Lord had previously said to Abraham… “I am giving all this land, as far as you can see, to you and your descendants as a permanent possession. And I will give you so many descendants that, like the dust of the earth, they cannot be counted! (Genesis 13:15-16 NLT). However, with Abraham’s limited thinking, he tries to figure out how the Lord’s promise will come to pass‎. Looking at his situation, Abraham must have wondered, “which descendants are you talking about?” and not being able to see another way out, he concludes that it has to be through Eliezer. However, the Lord said that’s not how it’s going to happen… “No, your servant will not be your heir, for you will have a son of your own who will be your heir.” (Genesis 15:4 NLT). At least, he should be grateful that the Lord didn’t just leave him there to keep figuring it out.

Aren’t we sometimes like Abraham? “Lord, I know you’ve made this great promise but based on my own understanding, I can only see it happening this way”. Years go by and Abraham does it again… How could I become a father at the age of 100?”… “And how can Sarah have a baby when she is ninety years old?” So Abraham said to God, “May Ishmael live under your special blessing!” (Genesis 17:17-18 NLT).

Hmmm… First, Eliezer and now Ishmael… but it was neither. It was Isaac. Even then, Isaac was just a seed.

Beloved, we always try to figure out things based on our understanding but God… is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams]… (Ephesians 3:20 AMP) so… rely on Him completely; never depend upon your own ideas and inventions (Proverbs 3:5 VOICE).

The blessing of the Lord brings [true] riches, and He adds no sorrow to it [for it comes as a blessing from God] (Proverbs 10:22 AMP).

Happy New Year to you beloved one. This is a year that the Lord is going to pour out His blessings on you like you’ve never seen before. It’s a year where the Lord will reward those that have diligently sought after Him (Hebrews 11:6).

However, there’s a ‘God’ kind of blessing that makes one truly rich and there’s a ‘man’ kind of blessing that man comes up with to fix problems just because we are desperate. This is the Isaac versus Ismael kind of blessing – human solution rather than God solution and the Lord has been showing me that the reason why we don’t always get the fullness of what He has for us is because our flesh can’t always handle the process, which at times can be like a Garden of Gethsemane (Matthew 26:36-42) kind of process but except a seed falls down and dies, it remains a single seed (John 12:24).

The Lord’s kind of blessing is dependent on what you are willing to let go of in the flesh ‎to allow Him bring to you by His spirit (Zechariah 4:6). This year, letting go of what’s flesh will allow you to receive what’s spirit – supernatural provision.

Beloved, be wise to ensure that what you get has God’s blessing on it. Bread in hand of Jesus was blessed and that’s why He was able to supernaturally multiply it (Matthew 14:18-21).

A few days ago, we were singing this well-known song that says… “Thanks… thanks… I give You thanks for all You have done… I am so blessed… my soul has found rest…”

Immediately, the servant of God took the microphone and started confirming what the Lord had been speaking to me about. You can be blessed but your soul has not found rest because that blessing comes with so much sorrow and toiling but… all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors… (Hebrews 4:10 NLT).

The Lord’s blessing brings wealth, and no sorrow [trouble] comes with it (Proverbs 10:22 EXB)… neither does toiling increase it (Proverbs 10:22 AMPC).

Beloved, it’s a leap year – a season of great grace and supernatural favour. Doors would supernaturally be opened for you. Don’t settle for an alternative blessing. Don’t be like the lame man by the beautiful gate who was about to settle for regular alms but… then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them—WALKING, LEAPING, AND PRAISING GOD (Acts 3:6-8 NKJV).

The Lord’s kind of blessing you will receive this year will have you WALKING, LEAPING, AND PRAISING GOD.

God bless you

When my mind really starts to play tricks on me, I always think of Jacob and all that wasted years he spent lamenting over the supposed death of his son who in actual fact went on training to become the Personal Adviser to Pharaoh and Governor of all of Egypt. But that’s because the enemy so cleverly put together some physical evidence for him to see; missing son plus coat stained with blood equals Joseph must be dead. As a result he was inconsolable… His family all tried to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. “I will go to my grave mourning for my son,” he would say, and then he would weep (Genesis 37:35 NLT).

Jacob felt everything was going against him (Genesis 42:36) but the truth is that it did not matter how long it took for him to see Joseph again, JOSEPH WAS NOT DEAD. That was the truth and that’s why we are always to go by the truth we see in God’s word rather than the physical facts presented before us.

This used to be a challenge for me because with a background in project management, I was trained to think of worst case scenarios. That’s how we manage risks and actually that’s how I’ve always handled life; just tell me what the worst case scenario is so that I can prepare my mind. It was so bad that someone actually had to tell me that a particular situation I was trying to manage was a project for only God to handle. I struggled but had to find a way to let it go and just trust God and when I did, things didn’t turn out the way the enemy painted the picture in my head.

You’ve been told to… Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and DO NOT RELY ON YOUR OWN INSIGHT OR UNDERSTANDING (Proverbs 3:5 AMP). Can you imagine how Jacob must have felt when he saw Joseph again? He must have realised that his INSIGHT OR UNDERSTANDING failed him big time and robbed him of his life. What is the evidence you see in front of you? When are you going to learn to walk by faith and not by sight? As far as you keep drawing conclusions based on what you see, the enemy would keep presenting false evidence that seem so real.

Dear friend, the way forward is to fix your eyes on Jesus and what His word says. That’s where the truth can be found. Keep believing that things are working out for your good and they are. You’ve just got to see it with your eyes of faith.

God bless you
