“Then we turned around and headed back across the wilderness toward the Red Sea, just as the Lord had instructed me, and WE WANDERED AROUND IN THE REGION OF MOUNT SEIR FOR A LONG TIME. “Then at last the Lord said to me, ‘You have been wandering around in this hill country long enough; TURN TO THE NORTH (Deuteronomy 2:1-3 NLT).

Beloved, what do you do when caught up in a loop? You find yourself going around in circles doing the same thing over and over again without results. You find that you are stuck in one place and it seems there’s no way out.

In our feature text, Moses recaps the Israelites journey in the wilderness where they were in a similar situation. They had started their journey to their Promised Land but had to turn around and head back for the wilderness. Why? It was because when they were initially told to leave where they were, they complained about the journey ahead. They were afraid. They lacked courage because of the bad report brought back by those that went ahead of them. They were intimidated by giants and they failed to trust the Lord. It was a pity King David wasn’t around at the time to show them how to tackle giants.

Beloved, what bad report have you received from the people that have failed to achieve what you are trying to achieve that is now causing you to wander around in circles instead of moving forward? I like that the Lord gave them another chance and directed them to TURN TO THE NORTH and to prevent them from wasting their time and energy, He told them the places they should not occupy because it belonged to other people (Deuteronomy 2:5,9). Perhaps that’s the direction you need.

Moses continued, “Then the Lord said to us, ‘GET MOVING. Cross the Zered Brook.’ So we crossed the brook. “THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS passed from the time we first left Kadesh-barnea until we finally crossed the Zered Brook… (Deuteronomy 2:13-14 NLT)

THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS…

That’s how long it took them to wander and I can only think of the lame man by the pool of Bethesda. He had been lying there for THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS. His excuse was that… I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up. Someone else always gets there ahead of me.” Jesus told him, “STAND UP, PICK UP YOUR MAT, AND WALK!” (John 5:7-8 NLT)

Beloved, except you allow it, no one can get in the way of Jesus taking you to the higher level that He is calling you? The tradition of the environment this man found himself dictated that someone had to help him get there. However, what if they brought him a bad report each time? What if they were all about themselves? Jesus had to enlighten him; everyone here is in it for themselves. They all want to get out so you would be waiting a very long… STAND UP, PICK UP YOUR MAT, AND WALK

So, is Jesus speaking to you? Stop complaining. Stop being afraid. Stop being intimidated by giants. Trust the Lord and move forward.

Then I said to the king, “If it pleases the king, let letters be given to me for the governors of the provinces beyond the [Euphrates] River, so that they will allow me to pass through until I reach Judah, and a letter to Asaph, the keeper of the king’s forest, so that he will give me timber to construct beams for the gates of the fortress which is by the temple, and for the city wall and for the house which I will occupy.” And the king granted me what I asked, for the good hand of my God was upon me. Then I came to the governors of the provinces beyond the [Euphrates] River and gave them the king’s letters. Now the king had sent officers of the army and horsemen with me. When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite official heard this, it caused them great displeasure that someone had come to see about the welfare and prosperity of the Israelites. (Nehemiah 2:7-10 NLT)

Beloved, anyone that has ever set out to build anything for the Lord can tell you that there are moments when you get so discouraged because of the way the enemy launches an attack on you just to frustrate you but as I started meditating on the story of Nehemiah, the first thing that caught my attention was his name which means “The Lord comforts” or “comforted by YAHWEH”.

This spoke volumes to me because it’s almost as if the Lord was telling Nehemiah that on this journey that I have set you apart for, I would be the only one to comfort you because you are about to confront some things that you never even knew existed.

Beloved, I have shared before how the name Sanballat means “secret hatred” or “enemy in secret” and you would be surprised how many surrounds you. You just start building and see.

Nehemiah said… when Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite official and Geshem the Arab heard about it, they mocked us and regarded us with contempt and said, “What is this thing you are doing? Are you rebelling against the king?” I answered them, “The God of heaven [has appointed us for His purpose and] will give us success; therefore we His servants will arise and build….” Nehemiah 2:19‭-‬20 AMP)

Beloved, do you feel like giving up? Are you feeling frustrated right now and feel there’s no one to comfort you? The Lord is your comfort and He is the One that would give you success regardless of the opposition. When everything was against David, the Bible says… David was greatly distressed because the people spoke of stoning him, for all of them were embittered, each man for his sons and daughters. But David felt strengthened and encouraged in the Lord his God (1 SAMUEL 30:6 AMP)

There’s a reason Jesus said… And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever (John 14:16 AMP). Allow Him to comfort you… Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5 NKJV).

And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”‎ ‎And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” (Mathew 14:28-31 NKJV)

Beloved, according to the Oxford Dictionary,” transition is the process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another”. This was the position Peter found himself when He obeyed Jesus’ command to step out of the boat and walk on water. He had already stepped out and there was no way He could go back. He had taken the initial step to come out from where he was. He had resigned from his job and couldn’t go back. He had invested all his money in this project because He took a step of faith. However, uncertainty about the future started to torment him. What have I done? What if things don’t work out as expected?

Beloved, this is like when you thrust yourself into something but then, reality starts to set in and you start to think “what am I doing?” And then, the first sign of any kind of opposition causes you to seriously panic. However, if you don’t face opposition, then it’s probably not the Lord that called or sent you.

The key is that you must retain the same courage that kicked in at the beginning… You must retain the same boldness that kicked in at the beginning… You must retain the same faith that kicked in at the beginning. The key is stability. You should not be… blown about and tossed by the wind. For such a person ought not to think or expect that he will receive anything [at all] from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable and restless in all his ways [in everything he thinks, feels, or decides] (James 1:6-8 AMP).

Beloved, get rid of the doubt. That’s what caused Peter to start to drown. Get rid of the fear. The Bible says… For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of A SOUND MIND (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV).

A SOUND MIND… That’s what you need. The Amplified Bible Translation says… sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind…]

Beloved, you are to always remain calm… Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. And the peace of God [that peace which REASSURES the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours] (Philippians 4:6-7 AMP).

Fix your eyes on Jesus who called you out of the boat. He is the author and finisher of your faith (Hebrews 12:2)

David was greatly distressed, for the men spoke of stoning him because the souls of them all were bitterly grieved, each man for his sons and daughters. But David ENCOURAGED AND STRENGTHENED HIMSELF in the Lord his God (1 Samuel 30:6 AMPC).

Beloved, I remember listening to someone say that to encourage yourself in the Lord is a very good thing until you get stuck. Of course, we all need encouragement from time to time. There are times in life when bad things happen and we do need God’s encouragement, but the danger is when we can’t move on from there. It’s just like when people get addicted to painkillers after taking them for a while. The pain is no longer there, but they can’t stop taking them.

“Stop listening to the same encouraging message over and over again”, they said. Well, I totally got what they were trying to say because I’ve found that I’ve gone off some of the preachers I used to listen to when I was at a very low point in my life. For instance, I remember the very first email devotional I received when my brother died said something along the lines of “there are some things that happen to you that you just have to file in the ‘I cannot understand it folder of your head’”. I don’t need to tell you that I started listening to every sermon they preached and God used their message of hope to minister to me greatly. The Lord is great like that, but I believe a time comes when He wants you to move on and not stay low.

We are told that after encouraging himself… David inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them? The Lord answered him, Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all. SO DAVID WENT… (1 Samuel 30:8-9 AMPC)

Beloved, the Lord gave the go ahead and SO DAVID WENT… He moved on. He took action and as a result… David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken and rescued his two wives. Nothing was missing, small or great, sons or daughters, spoil or anything that had been taken; David recovered all (1 Samuel 30:18-19 AMP).

Can you imagine if David remained stuck at the stage in his life when he needed encouragement? Everybody had turned on him so who knows; probably he would have started to play the victim and before you know it, depression would have set in. Only God knows what would have happened to his wife and children then.

Beloved, there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens (Ecclesiastes 3:1 NIV). DON’T GET STUCK WHERE YOU ARE. People’s lives and future may depend on your next move.

I say to you, get up, pick up your mat and go… (Mark 2:11 AMP)

But the officer said, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come into my home. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed. I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, ‘Go,’ and they go, or ‘Come,’ and they come. And if I say to my slaves, ‘Do this,’ they do it.” When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to those who were following him, he said, “I tell you the truth, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel! (Matthew 8:8-10 NLT)

Beloved, in the movie ‘War room’, there was a scene where a knife man came up to Elizabeth and Miss Clara and Elizabeth was willing to give him her purse but Miss Clara looked him straight in the eye and boldly said “You put that knife right down in the name of Jesus” and he did to the amazement of even the policemen and then she said something like its peoples decision to give their money to a thief”. Her response talks about choices.

Now that’s authority but not everybody has that kind of authority or should I say not everyone exercises that kind of authority. However, we need to. In our feature text, the officer clearly understood how authority works and as a result… Jesus said to the Roman officer, “Go back home. Because you believed, it has happened.” And the young servant was healed that same hour (Matthew 8:13 NLT).

Beloved, based on the kind of revelation that Simon Peter had, Jesus told him… “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it. And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.” (Matthew 16:17-19 NLT)

I’ll give you kingdom keys based on revelation – of who I am, who you are and what you can demand. Beloved, one of the things the Lord told me was that this is a year to work in your authority. Queen Esther had to rise to a certain level of authority and demand that certain laws be changed and it involved revelation of who she was, what she was called to do and off course courage.

Beloved, there’s a certain authority you walk in that demands an audience. It is the kind that the Lord sanctions. On the mount of transfiguration, we are told that… a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy. LISTEN TO HIM.” (Matthew 17:5 NLT). This is different from when Jesus was baptised. We are told that… suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:17 NKJV)

However, it’s now LISTEN TO HIM… Who listens to you?

SELAH!

After exploring the land for forty days, the men returned to Moses, Aaron, and the whole community of Israel… They reported to the whole community what they had SEEN AND SHOWED THEM THE FRUIT THEY HAD TAKEN FROM THE LAND. This was their report to Moses: “WE ENTERED THE LAND you sent us to explore, and it is indeed a bountiful country—a land flowing with milk and honey. HERE IS THE KIND OF FRUIT IT PRODUCES. BUT the people living there are powerful, and their towns are large and fortified. We even saw giants there… (Numbers 13:25-28 NLT)

Beloved, unfortunately, giants like the ones mentioned in our feature text like to position themselves in front of what the Lord wants to give us and yes, they can be intimidating. However, I only have one question for these men that brought back a report to Moses; “For the period of 40 days you were exploring the land, didn’t the giants see you? Weren’t they there when you took the fruits? If they were such a threat, how did you manage it?

Beloved, Moses had told the men to… BE OF GOOD COURAGE. And bring some of the fruit of the land (Numbers 13:20 NKJV). So, they must have been brave enough in the first place to take some fruits. But then, the devil magnified the giants they saw. As a result, the whole community suffered but isn’t it interesting that the evidence the community SAW was not enough. Rather, they went for what they HEARD.

I say this so that you are cautious of the people you listen to. There are a few like Caleb who would tell you it’s possible… “Let’s go at once to take the land,” he said. “We can certainly conquer it!” (Numbers 13:30 NLT) and there’s the majority that would tell you it is impossible. They would tell you that they’ve been there and these are the reasons why you can’t. We are told that… the other men who had explored the land with him disagreed. “We can’t go up against them! They are stronger than we are!” So they spread this bad report about the land among the Israelites: “The land we traveled through and explored will devour anyone who goes to live there. All the people we saw were huge. We even saw giants there… next to them we felt like grasshoppers, and THAT’S WHAT THEY THOUGHT, TOO!” (Numbers 13:31-33 NLT).

No, that’s what you thought and you can’t always go by feelings. Beloved, most times, we have good evidence in front of us and it’s not the giants that stop us from moving forward. It’s our own fear and that of others that we’ve listened to.

Beloved, the spies said… WE ENTERED THE LAND… That was enough because the Lord said… Wherever you set foot, that land will be yours (Deuteronomy 11:24 NLT)

David said I have killed the lion and bear which gave him courage to face his giant (1 Samuel 17:36). Haven’t you got any proof in your hands that you can do it?

01. October 2016 · Comments Off on THE LAST DOOR IS UP TO YOU TO OPEN · Categories: Action, Courage, Faith, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Prayer

Peter knocked at the outer entrance, and a servant named Rhoda came to answer the door. When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, “Peter is at the door!” “You’re out of your mind,” they told her. When she kept insisting that it was so, they said, “It must be his angel.” But Peter kept on knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished (Acts 12:13-16 NIV).

Beloved, I read where someone said that their daughter loves to run up to the automatic doors of a particular shop so that it automatically open as she gets there. However, after going through that door, they get to the second door which is manual but she kept running to it expecting it to open on its own until her dad had to tell her that “we can get in but we have to open the door this time”.

The reason I’m sharing this story is because the devil doesn’t mind you praying even though he would do everything to stop you but he definitely mind’s you believing and there’s definitely a difference between praying, believing and receiving. Some people have mastered the act of praying but they struggle to believe and then, they would rather keep praying than open their hearts to receive what they’ve been praying for because it’s either too scary or they lack courage.

Immediately the church started praying for Peter who was locked up in prison, God went to work. He sent an angel to get Peter out of prison and all the doors that were an obstacle to Peter’s freedom opened of their own accord… They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city. IT OPENED FOR THEM BY ITSELF, and they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left Him (Acts 12:10 NIV).

Beloved, the church didn’t have to do anything. All the doors opened of their own accord but here’s the thing; the Lord left the last door for Peter to knock on and the church that had been praying for Peter had to open it to receive him. The Lord was not going to open that door. It was up to them to open it.

Beloved, what am I trying to say? Do you lack the courage to open the door to what God has sent your way and simply receive it? Everything is already in place waiting for you. All you need to do is go for that interview and the Job is yours. All you need to do is put in your proposal and the contract or whatever it is you are after is yours. All you need to do is speak to that person and the answer is yes.

I ask again… Do you lack the courage to open the door to what God has sent your way and simply receive it?

“…I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you (Luke 11:9 NIV).

He was pleased when he noticed Queen Esther waiting in the court. He extended his gold scepter with his hand, inviting her in. Esther walked toward him, and when she was close enough, she reached out and touched the king’s scepter. What is it, Queen Esther? What is your request? I’ll give you anything—even half of my kingdom—all you need to do is ask (Esther 5:2-3 Voice).

Beloved, yesterday we looked at Mordecai’s ability to trust God for deliverance. Today, the focus is on Esther who needed to make a courageous move to plead her case before the king but had to first challenge her fears because the enemy is an expert at bombarding our minds with reasonable arguments why we can’t take bold steps and to be honest, the facts about some situations can be intimidating. It could be something that’s never been done before and the devil would come up with the consequences of your proposed actions so you dare not make a move.

Esther feared that the king would kill her. She said… How am I supposed to see the king? It’s known throughout the land, from the greatest of the king’s officials to the common folk who live in the provinces, that any person who approaches the king in the inner chamber without being invited is sentenced to death. That’s the law! There’s only one exception, and that’s if the king were to hold out the gold scepter to that person and spare his or her life. It’s been 30 days since the king last summoned me! (Esther 4:11 Voice)

Esther was afraid but fear is usually from the enemy. Even if what he said was a fact and involved a high level of risk, history makers have to take certain amounts of risk. Esther made up her mind that… “I will go in to the king and plead my people’s case, even though it means breaking the law. And IF I DIE, THEN I DIE!” (Esther 4:16 Voice)

IF I DIE, THEN I DIE… Beloved, you can see from our feature text that Esther didn’t die. Rather, she found grace. The king was pleased to see her and he gave her a blank cheque.

Perhaps this is speaking to you today? Do you have to approach someone or a system but the enemy has bombarded your mind with all sorts of reasons why you shouldn’t go to that person and make your request? Perhaps you need to resolve issues with someone and the enemy is telling you that they wouldn’t take it well. But what if on the contrary, they would admire your boldness and be happy that you made a move.

Beloved, things may not be as bad as you think. Don’t allow satan’s argument cause you to entertain fear. Remember… God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV).

07. June 2016 · Comments Off on RELYING ON THE HOLY SPIRIT‏ FOR COURAGEOUS CONFIDENCE‏ · Categories: Action, Authority, Courage, Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ

And now, Lord, take note of their intimidations intended to silence us. Grant us, Your servants, the courageous confidence we need to go ahead and proclaim Your message… They finished their prayer, and immediately the whole place where they had gathered began to shake. All the disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began speaking God’s message with courageous confidence (Acts 4:29-31 VOICE).

Beloved, are you facing an intimidating situation where you have to be bold and courageous and you are just not feeling up to facing it? Well, I’ve been there but the Lord always makes me realise that He doesn’t raise cowards and though I haven’t always done confrontations with the right spirit, however, that’s why we need the Holy Spirit (THE RIGHT SPIRIT!!!).

Have you tried asking for the Holy Spirit to fill you with the boldness and courage you need? In our feature text, the disciples prayed for courageous confidence and as they finished praying, they were… filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began speaking God’s message with courageous confidence.

Beloved, many people in the world turn to alcohol to give them false confidence and courage when they have to face some difficult situations‎ and when you hear them talking under its influence, you would be like “who is this person? What has come over you?” Well, it’s the effect of alcohol and I guess that’s the same effect the disciple’s got when they were filled with the Holy Spirit.

According to my Bible notes “the Holy Spirit changes everyone and everything. If there is any doubt about the power of the Spirit, just take a look at Peter. When Jesus was captured, Peter cowered in fear that he might be identified as a man who loved Jesus. Now this same man is preaching, healing, and pointing his finger in the face of Jewish officials who have captured him and John. WITH A BOLDNESS THAT IS NOT HIS OWN, he blames them for the death of Jesus and does not cower at their show of violence”.

WITH A BOLDNESS THAT IS NOT HIS OWN… Beloved, we need to keep reminding ourselves of this truth that it is never in our own strength… “This is what the Lord says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies (Zechariah 4:6 NLT).

Also, recently, I was sharing with someone that courage and boldness is not about the ability to shout and come across as intimidating or in the show of violence. It’s about the authority that you have and that’s the kind of authority that the Holy Spirit gives where you can remain cool, calm and collected and just say the words backed by His authority.

Beloved, do you need the courageous confidence to do what it is that you need to do? Why not pray like the disciples did?

14. April 2016 · Comments Off on HAVEN’T YOU BEEN COMMANDED TO BE COURAGEOUS? · Categories: Courage, Fear, God's Plan, Jesus Christ

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be terrified or dismayed (intimidated), for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9 AMP)

Beloved, when you read this text, you kind of get the impression that the Lord had to have a lot of pep talks with Joshua just to make him feel more courageous. The Lord had to remind him over and over again… Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! But for what? I ask this because as I read this and then moved on to the next chapter, I saw what the Lord already knew about Joshua’s enemies.

Rahab told the spies Joshua sent to spy out the Land that… I know the Eternal has given your people this land. Your coming has paralyzed us all with fear. We have heard how the Eternal held back the Red Sea so you could escape from Egypt on dry land and how you completely destroyed the Amorite kings, Sihon and Og—and their kingdoms—on the far side of the Jordan. As soon as this news reached us, our hearts melted like wax and NONE OF US HAD AN OUNCE OF COURAGE LEFT. The Eternal One, your God, is truly God of the heavens above and the earth below (Joshua 2:9-11 VOICE).

We also see this again as they advanced forward… When the kings of the Amorites… and the kings of the Canaanite cities… heard how the Eternal had dried up the waters of the Jordan so the Israelites could cross, they were alarmed, and their courage failed at the thought of the advancing Israelites (Joshua 5:1 VOICE).

Beloved, Joshua’s enemies had no courage whatsoever and I can just imagine how the Lord can get kind of frustrated when we allow lack of courage hold us back because He knows there’s really nothing to be afraid off… Your enemies are actually afraid of you because unfortunately they know the power that backs you up more than you do. However, it’s almost like the devil places a mirage in front of us and one online dictionary says “the definition of a mirage is an optical illusion, SOMETHING THAT YOU BELIEVE YOU SEE BUT THAT ISN’T REALLY THERE”.

Beloved, has the enemy placed a huge mirage in front of you that is causing you to want to back down? HAVEN’T YOU BEEN COMMANDED TO BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS? Isn’t it a shame to know that you backed out because you lacked the courage and for what? A mirage?

You see, God did not give us a cowardly spirit but a powerful, loving, and disciplined spirit (2 Timothy 1:7 VOICE). Other translations say… God has not given us the spirit of fear… but I like how this translation says… God did not give us a cowardly spirit.

BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS… Go forward and possess your future.
