And Adam knew Eve as his wife, and she became pregnant and bore Cain; and she said, I have gotten and gained a man WITH THE HELP OF THE LORD. And [next] she gave birth to his brother Abel… (Genesis 4:1-2 AMPC).

Beloved, Happy mother’s day to all you wonderful mothers and mothers to be out there. I have great news for you… NOTHING CAN STOP YOU! I was just reflecting on all the agony Eve had to go through. From her very first appearance on the scene of this earth, the devil was after her. Yes, she fell. Yes her actions had consequences but no matter how she struggled… No matter what life brought her way, she PREVAILED. She had to go through hard labour but WITH THE HELP OF THE LORD… she PREVAILED…

Because of the enmity between the offspring of satan and her offspring (Genesis 3:15), there was war in her household and even after she lost both sons, her story did not end there, she… again became pregnant, and she bore a son and called his name Seth. For God, she said, has appointed for me another child…(Genesis 4:25 AMPC)… WITH THE HELP OF THE LORD… she PREVAILED…

Beloved, since that time, women struggled with all sorts of issues. Barrenness was top on the list but when the world thought it was all over for Sarah, Rachael, Rebecca, Hannah, Elizabeth and the like, the Lord changed their stories… WITH THE HELP OF THE LORD… they PREVAILED…

And then the angel of the Lord appeared to one very special woman… And he came to her and said, Hail, O favored one [endued with grace]! The Lord is with you! Blessed (favored of God) are you before all other women!…And the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found grace (free, spontaneous, absolute favor and loving-kindness) with God. And listen! You will become pregnant and will give birth to a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus (Luke 1:28-31 AMPC).

The enemy fought that Son… He was crucified. Mary probably thought she had lost Him forever but He resurrected… He ascended in to Heaven and… On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place…. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them (Acts 2:1,3 NLT). That was the Holy Spirit coming to dwell inside of them. Mary, the mother of Jesus was there (Acts 1:14). She felt her Son inside her once again… She was a favored one… WITH THE HELP OF THE LORD… she PREVAILED…

Beloved, such would be your case… you would keep on PREVAILING. On this special mother’s day, you blessed woman, favored of God, may you receive a special visitation from the Lord. May you receive gifts that you know… THIS CAN ONLY BE GOD.

Let us not grow weary or become discouraged in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give in (Galatians 6:9 AMP).

Beloved, a few months ago, I read the following message on a friends Facebook wall which said “I’ve been nominated for an award. I’m shocked. Best Actress nomination for 2016, Awesome God”. I read it and couldn’t help but leave the following comment. I said… “Congrats… I remember reading your post a while back about not getting jobs. You were so frustrated then but you didn’t give up. Just goes to show what happens when we don’t give up…”

Can you imagine what would have happened to her if she gave up out of frustration? After reading what she said I just had to copy it and save it somewhere because I knew the Lord would remind me of it and He sure did. Perhaps, someone needs to hear it right now.

I was reminded of it as I was listening to someone talk about Cathy Hughes, an African-American entrepreneur, radio and television personality and business executive who founded the media company Radio One. I heard that about 34 banks turned her down before one told her yes. The person telling the story said “I’m not interested in the one that said yes. I am interested in the fight that was in her for the first 34. Are you tough enough to be a winner or can I discourage you and make you give up your dream?”

Beloved, she didn’t allow the number of ‘NO’s’ she received stop her. You just know that someone is tenacious when they keep going after that many rejections. It reminds me of what someone that runs a prayer line always says after every prayer session. You would always hear them say; “Remember, whatever you are going through, keep going through”. In other words, no matter how hard it may be, as far as you are taking steps, then you are moving forward. However, there’s no progress in throwing in the towel. That’s giving up. Its quitting. It reminds me of when Job said… Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him… (Job 13:15 NKJV). He basically said “I may not understand what God is up to right now but I won’t give up hope. I would keep trusting Him”.

Another person said, “don’t let what you are going through keep you from what you are going to.” yes, you may be going through something right now but don’t let whatever it is keep you from what you are going to.

The Voice translation of our feature text says… May we never tire of doing what is good and right before our Lord because in His season we shall bring in a great harvest if we can just persist.

Beloved, “don’t let what you are going through keep you from what you are going to”. This Actress didn’t give up. Cathy Hughes didn’t give up. Job didn’t and you shouldn’t either. Remember, whatever you are going through, keep going through

I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains [just one grain; it never becomes more but lives] by itself alone. But if it dies, it produces many others and yields a rich harvest (John 12:24 AMP).

Beloved, this year has been one of those years where I’ve had to watch people from near and afar go through a process of great testing of their faith; I mean, people going through the kind of trial that would really test your faith and make you want to give up but I remember telling someone that when God is ready to take you to the next level, you experience a kind of breaking that you never thought was possible. You may have thought that you’ve mastered everything there is to master about our faith but the Lord would then show you that there’s more.

When we think about faith, Abraham is one person that comes to mind. Abraham’s first level of testing of his faith was to wait for very many years for his promised son but when he eventually had the son and thought it was all over, the Lord tested him again by asking him to give up that son he loved so much and I like the way the Bible says… SOMETIME LATER God tested Abraham… (Genesis 22:1) but it was after that test that the Lord swore and said… I WILL SURELY BLESS you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore… (Genesis 22:17 NIV)

Beloved, that’s called growing from faith to faith. When God says I am going to increase you, just like what our feature text says about the grain of wheat, expect the dying process. This is a process that would test what’s in your heart and really humble you so that when the increase comes, you know to always acknowledge God and give Him the glory.

Unfortunately, we live in a microwave generation where we want instant things but that’s not God’s way of doing things. With God’s way, you are purified. You are pruned. You die to self and your character is transformed. Like someone said a while back, when God says I will… pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it, at times, it could be that we don’t have the character enough to store it.

Beloved, show me a true man or woman of God that is doing great things for God and I would show you someone that has truly been broken. They may not come out and say what they’ve been through but if they dare say anything, you would be amazed. However, through it all, I like the Scripture that says… After you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself RESTORE, CONFIRM, STRENGTHEN, and ESTABLISH YOU (1 Peter 5:10 ESV)

That’s His word for you.

Now a certain man… had an infirmity thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “DO YOU WANT TO BE MADE WELL?” (John 5:5-6 NKJV)

Beloved, here are the words of someone that’s become so weary…

“I am still applying for jobs but honestly I am not that interested any more. I think I am just drained. I am drained physically, emotionally and mentally. I am just tired of everything”.

So, what kind of advice do you give to someone that has found themselves in such a position? Let’s not pretend, I know we have been trained to say ‘it is well’ but after constantly going from one battle to another for a very long time, there’s the tendency to find that you are just drained and have lost your fighting spirit and just want to settle where you are but I believe that’s why Jesus would often ask people that have been in the same condition for long periods of time; “DO YOU WANT TO BE MADE WELL?”

Beloved, one could think this was a silly question to ask, however, I’ve found that most people get so accustomed to their situation that they bring out their mats, try to find a comfortable spot and just lay there. But that’s exactly what the enemy wants to happen to you and so he does everything to wear you down. Jesus once told Peter… Simon, Simon (Peter), listen! Satan has asked excessively that [all of] you be given up to him [out of the power and keeping of God], that he might sift [all of] you like grain, But I have prayed especially for you [Peter], that your [own] faith may not fail; and when you yourself have turned again, strengthen and establish your brethren (Luke 22:31-32 AMPC).

Beloved, like I said, what kind of advice do you give to someone that has found themselves in such a position where they have lost their fighting spirit? We all have our moments of despair but that’s why we’ve been advised to… be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings (1 Peter 5:8-9 NIV).

Beloved, it’s a great battle for your faith. One you’ve got to keep fighting till the very end. That is why you would hear the great Apostle Paul say… I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7 NIV).

Beloved, are you going to SETTLE BECAUSE YOU ARE WEARY or are you going to keep fighting the good fight of faith? DO YOU WANT TO BE MADE WELL?

…Rise, take up your bed and walk (John 5:8 NKJV)

…Jesus told His disciples a parable to show them that they SHOULD ALWAYS PRAY AND NOT GIVE UP. He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’ “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow KEEPS BOTHERING me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”(Luke 18:1-5 NIV)

Beloved, the Parable of the Persistent Widow is one we are quite familiar with and honestly, I’ve nothing new to tell you but I was reading this passage and it suddenly hit me again that as far as the Lord has given us a promise and as far as we can get on our knees to pray, we really have no business giving up. Jesus said it Himself.

Prayer and persistence is what it takes. Praying until something happens. Can you imagine a woman in labour suddenly deciding that she’s not going to push anymore just because the baby is not coming out yet? That she decides to stop pushing does not mean that the baby is not inside her womb. However, except the doctors help her out, it may mean death for either her or the baby or even both. And I believe that is what we sometimes do to our promises. We kill it inside us because we give up pushing.

We are told of the great prophet Elijah who took the birthing position and refused to give up when he was praying for rain… Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, bent down to the ground and put his face between his knees. “Go and look toward the sea,” he told his servant. And he went up and looked. “There is nothing there,” he said. Seven times Elijah said, “Go back.” The seventh time the servant reported, “A cloud as small as a man’s hand is rising from the sea.”… (1 Kings 18:42-44 NIV)

Imagine if after the sixth time, he gave up, we definitely won’t be reading of his testimony today.

Beloved, our job is to continue praying and it doesn’t even have to be a long prayer… Grant me justice against my adversary was all the widow kept saying… And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for His chosen ones, WHO CRY OUT TO HIM DAY AND NIGHT? WILL HE KEEP PUTTING THEM OFF?” (Luke 18:6-7 NIV)

Grant me what You promised Lord… Can you keep saying this until He does? Will God not bring about His promises for His chosen ones? I think He will. Why not get on your knees and lets push that baby out?

Be assured that the testing of your faith [through experience] produces endurance [leading to spiritual maturity, and inner peace]. And let endurance have its perfect result and do a thorough work, so that you may be perfect and completely developed [in your faith], lacking in nothing (James 1:3‭-‬4 AMP).‬

Beloved, yesterday, the Lord used my mobile phone to show me a great illustration that demonstrated how we can sometimes be impatient and as a result, stop Him from completing the work He is doing in us during a particular season.

So, I’ve got two phones but unfortunately only one charger which means that I can only charge one phone at a time. Also, one of the phones takes forever to charge probably because I am not using the right charger, as a result, I always like to charge that one first because it’s also my main phone. So, what happened was that I had been charging it for a while and I needed to charge the other phone, so from time to time, I would check to see if it was fully charged so I could start charging the other phone but like I said, it was taken forever so I left it to continue charging.

However, after a while I reached out for the phone to check for something else but when I saw that it was 99% charged, I decided to take the charger off so I could charge the other phone but one mind said why not just allow it to be 100% charged up but I couldn’t wait. I just ignored it and that’s when I felt the Lord say “see how your impatience gets in the way of finishing the process I’m taking you through”.

Beloved, based on our recent conversations, I knew the Lord was speaking to me about patience and endurance. It was just 1% remaining but I couldn’t wait and it’s not like the other phone was about to die, I just like to see that it’s charged up. The other thing that caught my attention was that immediately I took the charger out of my almost charged phone, I had hardly done anything on it before it dropped down to 98% and it kept going down because the phone consumes battery.

Beloved, what’s the message here? Our key text advises us to be patient will the Lord works on us so we are perfect, completely developed and lacking in nothing ‎but many of us give up at that 99th hour and instead of being complete, we gradually start going backwards.

Beloved, waiting isn’t always fun but‎ the end result is worth. Job said… “But He knows the way that I take [and He pays attention to it]. When He has tried me, I will come forth as [refined] gold [pure and luminous] (Job 23:10 AMP). Job basically said the Lord hasn’t forgotten about me. He knows exactly where I am and what He is doing with me and once He is done, I would come out shining so I’ll just wait till He’s done.

SELAH!

If you fall apart during a crisis, then you weren’t very strong to begin with (Proverbs 24:10 Voice).

Beloved, a couple of days ago, throughout the night, the Holy Spirit kept bringing up our feature text and it was only when I woke up and started reading about Apostle Paul during my morning devotion that I realised what the Lord was saying. There are many people that are considering quitting just because of the trials they’ve had to face, however, can you compare what you’ve been through to that of Apostle Paul?

Here’s his resume/CV;

…I have worked harder for God’s kingdom, taken more beatings, been dragged in and out of prisons, and have been eye-to-eye with death. Five times I have withstood thirty-nine lashes from Jewish authorities, three times I was battered with rods, once I was almost stoned to death, three times I was shipwrecked, and I spent one day and night adrift on the sea. I have been on many journeys and faced the most extreme circumstances: perilous rivers, violent thieves, and threats by my own people and by the Gentile outsiders alike. I have faced dangers in the city, in the wilderness, and at sea; and danger from spies among our brothers and sisters. I have survived toil and hardships, sleepless nights, hunger and thirst without a crumb in sight, bare to the cold. As if these external trials weren’t enough, there is the daily stress I feel and anxiety I carry for all the churches under my care. Who is weak without this arousing my empathy? Who gets hurt and offended without this inciting my burning anger? (2 Corinthians 11:23-29 Voice).

Beloved, with all these trials, we aren’t told that it ever came across the mind of Apostle Paul to quit and say “Lord’ I’ve had enough”. Rather, he kept pushing through and according to my Bible notes… “Sincerity is a difficult thing to judge. THE COMMITMENT THAT PEOPLE HAVE TO A CAUSE CAN ONLY BE DETERMINED OVER TIME. One test might be: do they persevere through hardships and challenges? In this regard, Paul is without equal. If the cause of Jesus were a fleeting interest or a halfhearted pursuit, then he would have given up after his first beating. But Paul’s compassion for those who did not know the beauty of the gospel was stubborn and unyielding. This persecutor-turned-emissary always had his critics. But who could call him insincere?”

Beloved, Apostle Paul endured till the end and his final testimony was… I have fought the good fight, I have stayed on course and finished the race, and through it all, I HAVE KEPT BELIEVING. I look forward to what’s in store for me: a crown of righteousness that the Lord—the always right and just judge—will give me that day (but it is not only for me, but for all those who love and long for His appearing) (2 Timothy 4:7-8 Voice).

I HAVE KEPT BELIEVING… Beloved, what have you gone through that makes you want to give up? And then, give up to do what?

And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives.” If you ENDURE CHASTENING, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons (Hebrews 12:5-8 NKJV).

Beloved, if you are like me, then chastisement isn’t a word you like hearing but that’s because many of us have memories that could be classified as abusive. I remember having a primary school teacher who would flog you depending on your test scores. So, for example, if you scored 6 out of 10 then he gave you 4 strokes of his cane. If you scored 7 out of 10, he gave you 3 strokes. The only way you escaped his chastisement was if you had a perfect score of 10 out of 10. Now, he was both my class teacher and after school (lesson) teacher so you can imagine the amount of flogging I received. However, that doesn’t mean I was dumb though (LOL).

Anyway, the point I’m trying to make is that we usually think God’s chastening is the kind of abusive chastening that many of us grew up with. However, when we look at the Greek word ‘paideia’, it means instruction that trains someone to reach full development (maturity). It involves the whole training and education of children which relates to the cultivation of mind, morals and virtues and is a means that God uses to move us from babes to mature sons.

Beloved, the Lord’s chastening isn’t punishment. Rather, it’s about educating, training, nurturing, correcting etc. and a sure sign that the He’s working in your life. Our feature text talks about enduring chastening. This isn’t a bad thing. What we need is to correct our perception. We are told that if we endure correction, God treats us as sons but not just sons, mature sons (Huios) that the world is earnestly waiting for to manifest (Romans 8:19) and not just babes or teenagers so we shouldn’t despise it or be discouraged by it.

A few days ago, I was telling a young lady about this maturity level of sonship that God wants to get us to and so if He’s taking us through a process where He’s teaching us to love or be humble like Christ, then we ought to embrace it.

I was listening to someone say God’s chastening brings about new revelation in our lives and our attitude should be ‘thank You Lord, my eyes are now open and I can see what you are doing in my life. I accept and embrace it and as you do so, you quickly move on to a higher level; a better place than you’ve ever been. They went on to say despising God’s chastening is a soul reaction while endurance is a work of the spirit.

Hmmm… Beloved, are you allowing the Lord treat you as an illegitimate son?

God strengthens the weary and gives vitality to those worn down by age and care. Young people will get tired; strapping young men will stumble and fall. But those who trust in the Eternal One will regain their strength. They will soar on wings as eagles. They will run—never winded, never weary. They will walk—never tired, never faint (Isaiah 40:29-31 Voice).

Beloved, I remember watching the movie “The Life of Pi”; a story of a young boy who was travelling with his parents from India to Canada by sea but unfortunately experienced a shipwreck. With parents dead, he survives 227 days after the shipwreck while stranded on a lifeboat in the Pacific Ocean with a tiger.

He struggled to make it to the end after devising a strategy to ensure the tiger didn’t have him for dinner while he himself was starving. However, with the end in sight, he made this profound statement… “By the time we reached the Mexican shore, I was afraid to let go of the boat. My strength was gone. I was so weak. I was afraid that in two feet of water, so close to deliverance, I would drown…”

Hmmm… the water was shallow. Only two feet… that was the safest part of his journey but his strength almost failed him. I had previously listened to a preaching on the topic but watching the full movie actually drove the message home. The toughest times in life are not at the beginning of the fight. Then you’ve still got energy. However, when you’ve been in an intense battle for too long, your strength starts to fail you.

After been hit one blow after another, if not careful, you begin to give in to the little things. The great prophet Elijah ran away from a lady after the great battles he had won… Elijah was afraid and ran for his life… He came to a broom bush, sat down under it AND PRAYED THAT HE MIGHT DIE. “I HAVE HAD ENOUGH, LORD,” HE SAID. “TAKE MY LIFE; I am no better than my ancestors.” (1 Kings 19:3-4 NIV)

Same thing with Samson. After many battles, he too said Lord… “LET ME DIE with the Philistines!” Then he pushed with all his might, and down came the temple on the rulers and all the people in it. Thus he killed many more when he died than while he lived (Judges 16:30 NIV).

Beloved, unrelenting battles have a way of draining you but… this is why you need to be head-to-toe in the full armor of God: so you can resist during these evil days and be fully prepared to hold your ground (Ephesians 6:13 Voice).‎ The end of the year and even your battle is in sight. Don’t give up now. Why not pray for the Lord’s strength and grace to keep standing? Jesus says… “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9 NLT)

26. July 2016 · Comments Off on ‏TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THE FACTS OF YOUR SITUATION‏ · Categories: God's Plan, Hope, Jesus Christ, Patience, Perseverance, Praise, Promise, Trusting God

His faith did not fail, ALTHOUGH HE WAS WELL AWARE THAT his impotent body, after nearly 100 years, was as good as dead and that Sarah’s womb, too, was dead. In spite of all this, his faith in God’s promise did not falter. In fact, his faith grew as he gave glory to God because he was supremely confident that God could deliver on His promise (Romans 4:19-21 VOICE).

ALTHOUGH HE WAS WELL AWARE THAT‎…

Beloved, whenever you are presented with an impossible situation, this is always one portion of scripture to keep in front of you because if Abraham was fully aware of the impossible situation that himself and his wife faced, and he still found it in him to believe what God promised which is that he would be the father of many nation, then it proves that truly nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37)

And I love that God honoured his faith because God rewards great faith (Hebrews 11:6). Abraham was fully aware of the facts presented before Him but he made a conscious decision to take his focus of the facts and place it on the God who made the promises because he probably knew very well that ‎once you focus on the facts and meditate on it, you are no longer giving your faith a chance to work‎.

Beloved… faith proceeds from hearing, as we listen to the message about God’s Anointed (Romans 10:17 VOICE)… not ‎by hearing the word of your situation.

The other point to note here is that like someone said, faith comes by hearing and not just reading and this is why you have to keep meditating on the promises of God for your situation until it speaks to you. That’s when you get impregnated by the word and in no time, you are sure to give birth to your promise.

The opposite of this position is to lose hope because once you lose hope, you have nothing to stand on because as we know‎… Faith is the assurance of THINGS YOU HAVE HOPED FOR, the absolute conviction that there are realities you’ve never seen (Hebrews 11:1 VOICE).

Thinking of the Shunammite woman, she told Elisha… “O man of God, don’t deceive me and get my hopes up like that.” (2 Kings 4:16 NLT). What she was telling Elisha was don’t get my hopes up only for me to be disappointed. She was so afraid of getting her hopes up and then being disappointed but she needed to hope again.

Beloved, what are your eyes fixed on? Have you looked at your situation and lost hope based on what you see? Remember… hope does not involve what we already have or see. For who goes around hoping for what he already has? But if we wait expectantly for things we have never seen, then we hope with true perseverance and eager anticipation (Romans 8:24-25 VOICE).

TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THE FACTS OF YOUR SITUATION and just continue to wait on the Lord, praising your way through.
