When the Lord brought back the captivity of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, And our tongue with singing. Then they said among the nations, “THE LORD HAS DONE GREAT THINGS FOR THEM.” (Psalm 126:1-2 NKJV)

Beloved, are you in or have you ever been in a difficult position where you just think this is the end of me? You look at the situation and say to yourself… there’s no way I’m coming out of this. Well, I’ve been there so many times. In fact, I was once in a fire and with no way out; I found a little corner to seat in, said my last prayers and started singing praises. The fire brigade was called but with a massive riot taking place outside, I didn’t think they would make it on time and even when they got to where we were, we had to wait until they broke the walls down. I tell you… that was the day I knew that the smoke from the flames could choke you to death even before the flames reach you. That day, I remember telling God… so after having several car accidents, it’s fire that would finally take me out. However, God forbid; He found a way to get me out of there. To Him be the glory.

Also, I remember a friend telling me of the day she almost drowned. Not knowing how to swim, she said her last prayers, held her noise and started going down. She thought it was the end of her but from nowhere, a hand pulled her out. She said from where she was, it could only have been an angel.

Beloved, such was the case with Peter when he was locked up in jail. Knowing that James was executed only a few hours ago, he must have thought that there was definitely no way out. Perhaps he said his last prayers and went to sleep but… suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared… struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists… “…Follow me,” the angel told him. Peter followed him out of the prison, BUT HE HAD NO IDEA THAT WHAT THE ANGEL WAS DOING WAS REALLY HAPPENING; HE THOUGHT HE WAS SEEING A VISION. They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city. It opened for them by itself, and they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him. THEN PETER CAME TO HIMSELF AND SAID, “NOW I KNOW WITHOUT A DOUBT THAT THE LORD HAS SENT HIS ANGEL AND RESCUED ME FROM HEROD’S CLUTCHES AND FROM EVERYTHING THE JEWISH PEOPLE WERE HOPING WOULD HAPPEN” (Acts 12:6-11 NIV).

Beloved, are you currently in a tight corner and feel there’s no way out? Don’t worry… it would be like a dream when the Lord rescues you. Just trust Him.

Then the hand of the Lord came upon Elijah [giving him supernatural strength]. He girded up his loins and outran Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel [nearly twenty miles] (1 Kings 18:46 AMP).

Beloved, yesterday, when someone told me what date it was, I could hardly believe it. There’s the saying that ‘time waits for no man’ and when you look back at how quickly time has flown, that saying couldn’t be any more real…

Now the question is what have I achieved so far? How many things can I tick off my list as completed or achieved? Perhaps, you have found yourself with too much on your plate. You’ve got too many deadlines all at the same time and as with the case with many of us, you feel that you have got limited time. However, do you know that if the Lord felt that we needed more than 24 hours in a day, He would have made our days longer? It’s something to think about.

Beloved, all hope is not lost though. I believe it’s time to get on your knees and ask the Lord for help; for Him to empower you with the special strength, might and the kind of speed that He gave to Elijah to outrun the chariots. It’s also the time to get serious. No more messing around. You don’t want to look back in December and regret the time wasted achieving nothing. I like that Elijah had to get rid of anything that would slow him down. He tucked his cloak into his belt. The Message Bible Translation says… Pulling up his robe and tying it around his waist… while the Expanded Bible Translation says, Elijah… tightened his clothes around him… and he… ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel [nearly twenty miles] (Amplified Bible CLASSIC EDITION).

This tells me that it does not matter who has left you behind or how much you need to catch up. You can still catch up but you’ve got to be serious.

Beloved, this is not the time to panic. Why not ask the Lord for speed that outruns the chariots and then see what happens? Remember… I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency] (Philippians 4:13 AMPC).

…Truth, righteousness, peace, FAITH, and salvation are more than words. LEARN HOW TO APPLY THEM. You’ll need them throughout your life… (Ephesians 6:13-18 MSG).

Beloved, taking up the SHIELD OF FAITH is another armour of God you can use to fight against the enemy and this is slightly different from the others because it involves taking up rather than putting on. We are told… ABOVE ALL, taking the SHIELD OF FAITH with which you will be able to QUENCH ALL THE FIERY DARTS of the wicked one (Ephesians 6:16 NKJV).

This is an additional layer of protection and ABOVE ALL suggests that the SHIELD OF FAITH is very important because FIERY DARTS can only reach the body if the shield is not held up to block them. I read that the Roman soldiers shield was very large and covered with leather, which when soaked in water was used to put out flame-tipped arrows.

So, what are the FIERY DARTS of the wicked one? Well, they range from fear, doubt, worry, to temptations… but we must take up our shield of faith to QUENCH the flames just like Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego had great faith in God to save them in the FIERY furnace.

Beloved, you must always trust that the Lord would show up in times of trouble. If you can build up your faith, then those FIERY DARTS of fear, doubt, worry to temptations would be extinguished by the time they hit your SHIELD OF FAITH.

However, Faith tries your PATIENCE and that’s what most of us need to work on. Someone said “waiting on God is actually God giving you time to grow stronger in faith”. So true! I’ve noticed that while waiting on God, He will at intervals reassure you that He will come through for you. It’s then up to you to believe Him or not. This is a big battle because the enemy would do everything to paint a picture that causes you to worry, fear and doubt.

The life of Abraham, our father of faith is one we can learn from. How did he develop faith in God to the extent that he did not question God when God tested him by asking him to sacrifice Isaac, the son he loved so much?

In his previous trial of faith, he and wifey made a mistake. They listened to the devil who said it’s never going to happen now that you are both very old but the second time around, with the Isaac test, he had stronger faith to say “back off satan. I’m not listening to any more of your lies”.

Beloved, Abraham reasoned that if Isaac died, GOD WAS ABLE to bring him back to life again… (Hebrews 11:19 NLT)

Abraham’s reasoning shows he had grown stronger in faith. You too need to start reasoning like Abraham. GOD IS INDEED ABLE TO DO THE IMPOSSIBLE and Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see (Hebrews 11:1 NLT) so today, I pray that you hold up this confidence to quench every FIERY DARTS OF fear, doubt, worry and temptations…

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4 NIV).

Beloved, parents train their children not to run from every battle. “Daddy, I don’t want to go to school today. Someone’s bullying me. They keep calling me names” but daddy says “Child, don’t run away from your battles. Don’t ever let anyone intimidate you. Whenever they call you ugly, stand up to them and say, I’m not ugly. My daddy says I am beautiful”. The child may continue to run until the day she decides to take her father’s advice and stand up to them. Then she realises that they were all mouth and no action. They backed off immediately she stood up to them. She gains some confidence and little by little, she becomes stronger and starts to win bigger battles.

In the same way, God wants you to develop spiritual muscles to be prepared for battle because in this life you would constantly face battles from the enemy. This is why… when Pharaoh finally let the people go, God did not lead them along the main road that runs through Philistine territory, even though that was the shortest route to the Promised Land. God said, “If the people are faced with a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” So God led them in a roundabout way through the wilderness … THUS THE ISRAELITES LEFT EGYPT LIKE AN ARMY READY FOR BATTLE (Exodus 13:17-18 NLT).

We also see this as they possessed their Promised Land. We are told the Lord didn’t drive out all their enemies. He left some… TO TEACH WARFARE to the descendants of the Israelites who had not had previous battle experience) (Judges 3:1-2 NIV).

Beloved, today, we fight spiritual battles and our feature text lets us know we are to fight spiritual battles with spiritual weapons. For example, if your battle is that of the mind, you don’t have to agree with those negative thoughts bombarding your mind. Fight it with the truth of what Daddy says.

The Israelites left Egypt like AN ARMY READY FOR BATTLE… You too need to… BE PREPARED. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. TRUTH, RIGHTEOUSNESS, PEACE, FAITH, AND SALVATION ARE MORE THAN WORDS. LEARN HOW TO APPLY THEM. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out (Ephesians 6:13-18 MSG).

Beloved, God supplies all the armour you need to defeat the attacks of the enemy but you must put them on… LEARN HOW TO APPLY THEM… The Lord is saying… go on child, you can do it… kick the devil with my PEACE. Pierce him with My WORD… Headbutt him with your SALVATION… LEARN HOW TO APPLY THEM…

These are the nations the Lord did not force to leave. He wanted to test the Israelites who had not fought in [experienced; known] the wars of Canaan. (The only reason the Lord left those nations in the land was to teach the descendants of the Israelites who had not fought in those wars how to fight.) (Judges 3:1-2 EXB)

Beloved, I remember attending a meeting once and one woman that I have never seen before leaned over to me and said… you are one strong woman. I didn’t even bother to ask her why she said so. I just looked at her and smiled because I knew what she was talking about. In my lifetime, I have fought very many battles. Yes, I have indeed fought many battles; some with the Lord because I found it very frustrating that someone that is supposed to love you this much doesn’t always swiftly answer your prayers when you desperately come knocking. After all, the Bible says… even before you ask, He has already knows (Matthew 6:8).

It’s even more frustrating when you know what the Lord has promised you. However, I remember listening to someone say that it’s not what you live to your children that matters but what you live in them. If you live them all the wealth you have got without instilling wisdom and other valuable virtues in them, the possessions would soon disappear and they are left with nothing. ‎If you don’t believe me ask the prodigal son who wanted his inheritance but didn’t want to learn how to work to sustain it. He soon used up his inheritance in no time.

So, I finally read our feature text and understood that God knows exactly what He is doing. He wants us to develop spiritual muscles because as we’ve been informed… from the days of John the Baptist until the present time, the kingdom of heaven has endured violent assault, and violent men seize it by force [as a precious prize—a share in the heavenly kingdom is sought with most ardent zeal and intense exertion] (Matthew 11:12 AMPC).‎

Beloved, because of the things you are up against in the kingdom, you need to develop tenacity, boldness, courage… Yes, you need to develop a fighting spirit… one where you are forever wearing…‎ all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:11-12 NLT).

Only then are you able to stand in the day of trouble. Could this be the reason the Lord hasn’t answered your prayer to drive out all of your enemies yet? SELAH! pause and calmly think of that. Are you wearing all of God’s armor?

David was greatly distressed, for the men spoke of stoning him because the souls of them all were bitterly grieved, each man for his sons and daughters. But David ENCOURAGED AND STRENGTHENED HIMSELF in the Lord his God (1 Samuel 30:6 AMPC).

Beloved, I remember listening to someone say that to encourage yourself in the Lord is a very good thing until you get stuck. Of course, we all need encouragement from time to time. There are times in life when bad things happen and we do need God’s encouragement, but the danger is when we can’t move on from there. It’s just like when people get addicted to painkillers after taking them for a while. The pain is no longer there, but they can’t stop taking them.

“Stop listening to the same encouraging message over and over again”, they said. Well, I totally got what they were trying to say because I’ve found that I’ve gone off some of the preachers I used to listen to when I was at a very low point in my life. For instance, I remember the very first email devotional I received when my brother died said something along the lines of “there are some things that happen to you that you just have to file in the ‘I cannot understand it folder of your head’”. I don’t need to tell you that I started listening to every sermon they preached and God used their message of hope to minister to me greatly. The Lord is great like that, but I believe a time comes when He wants you to move on and not stay low.

We are told that after encouraging himself… David inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them? The Lord answered him, Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all. SO DAVID WENT… (1 Samuel 30:8-9 AMPC)

Beloved, the Lord gave the go ahead and SO DAVID WENT… He moved on. He took action and as a result… David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken and rescued his two wives. Nothing was missing, small or great, sons or daughters, spoil or anything that had been taken; David recovered all (1 Samuel 30:18-19 AMP).

Can you imagine if David remained stuck at the stage in his life when he needed encouragement? Everybody had turned on him so who knows; probably he would have started to play the victim and before you know it, depression would have set in. Only God knows what would have happened to his wife and children then.

Beloved, there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens (Ecclesiastes 3:1 NIV). DON’T GET STUCK WHERE YOU ARE. People’s lives and future may depend on your next move.

I say to you, get up, pick up your mat and go… (Mark 2:11 AMP)

Now the Philistines had come and raided the Valley of Rephaim; so David inquired of God: “Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?” The Lord answered him, “Go, I will deliver them into your hands.” (1 Chronicles 14:10 NIV)… Once more the Philistines raided the valley; so David inquired of God again, and God answered him, “DO NOT GO DIRECTLY AFTER THEM, but circle around them and attack them in front of the poplar trees. As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the poplar trees, move out to battle, because that will mean God has gone out in front of you to strike the Philistine army.” (1 Chronicles 14:13-15 NIV)

Beloved, there is the saying that we should choose our battles wisely and I believe this is one great lesson we can learn from the great king David, who was constantly faced with battles from the enemy. He had a very smart strategy for handling these battles. Every time he was faced with an enemy, he would always ask God whether it was a cause worth pursuing himself or whether God was going to confuse them first. Basically, David was saying, Lord, what’s the strategy?

So, the question for you today as we enter a new month is, “have you ever stopped to ask the Lord what the strategy is for dealing with the battles you face? Do you know that it is not everybody that confronts you that you respond to?” There may be times the Lord would tell you to do nothing; hold your peace, just be still and know that I am God. He may even tell you to be the first one to make peace. In other words, be the first one to say good morning. That’s bound to confuse them.

Beloved, does every little thing that people do to you trigger you off? Don’t you think fighting every day is bound to wear you out? There are some things the enemy brings your way just to either intimidate or distract you. That’s all. So, instead of always falling for his tricks, why not try doing the same thing David did and ask God, what’s the strategy? If He says that the battle is not worth pursuing, instead of getting so worked up, why not allow God go in front of you.

Beloved, there may be times when the Lord would want you to just focus on Him; worshipping and praising Him. That is the greatest weapon against the enemy. Do it and save your strength for a fight that is worth fighting.

… Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you THINK… (Romans 12:2 NLT)

Beloved, I just got back from Africa yesterday and I was telling my brother that the journey I’m on now with Lord is one where He is working on my perception; how I see things… how I think… because whether we like to admit it or not, we are limited by the boundaries we place on ourselves.

David wasn’t limited by size. He recognized that he had a big God who is able. He told Goliath… “You come at me with sword and spear and battle-ax. I come at you in the name of God-of-the-Angel-Armies… This very day God is handing you over to me… and everyone gathered here will learn that God doesn’t save by means of sword or spear. The battle belongs to God—he’s handing you to us on a platter!” (1 Samuel 17:45-47 MSG)

On the other hand, the 10 spies were intimidated by the size of the giants they saw and couldn’t possess their promise. They said…“We can’t go up against them! They are stronger than we are!”… Next to them we felt like grasshoppers, and that’s what they thought, too!” (Numbers 13:31-33 NLT)

Jeremiah, when called by God said… “I can’t speak for you! I’m too young!” The Lord replied, “Don’t say, ‘I’m too young,’ for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you. And don’t be afraid of the people, for I will be with you and will protect you. I, the Lord, have spoken!” (Jeremiah 1:6-8 NLT)

Moses also wanted to place limits on himself but God didn’t let him… Moses pleaded with the Lord, “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.” Then the Lord asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? IS IT NOT I, THE LORD? (Exodus 4:10-11 NLT)

And then there was Jesus who wasn’t limited by money in the bank. He told Peter to go and catch a fish, take money out of its mouth and go and pay the tax collector (Matthew 17:24-27). Also, Jesus was able to feed a multitude of 5000 men with 5 loafs and 2 fishes. His disciples came to him with a problem but Jesus wanted to transform their minds so… Jesus said, “You feed them.” “With what?” they asked. “We’d have to work for months to earn enough money to buy food for all these people!” (Mark 6:37 NLT). Their thinking already limited them but Jesus said only 5 loafs and 2 fishes will do.

Also, when they ran out of wine at the wedding in Canaan, if it were us today, we would be running around in confusion; “How much have you got on you? Which shop is nearby?” But what did Jesus say? He said we don’t need all that, just bring me water (John 2: 1-11).

Beloved, do you need to change your perception on things? Remember… with God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).

…“Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after this.” (Revelation 4:1 NLT)

Beloved, there was a time Jesus told His disciples… Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:20 NIV)

Jesus told them that it only took ‘small faith’ to move the mountain but my question is; what if you’ve got faith and the mountain still remains where it is? What if you’ve joined your faith with others and it has become massive faith and the mountains still says there’s no way I’m moving from this position? What if Jesus doesn’t want you to remove the mountain because there’s something He wants you to see on top of the mountain? Remember The Transfiguration… Jesus took Peter and the two brothers, James and John, AND LED THEM UP A HIGH MOUNTAIN TO BE ALONE. As the men watched, JESUS’ APPEARANCE WAS TRANSFORMED so that His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as light (Matthew 17:1-2 NLT).

Jesus led them up the mountain and there He was TRANSFORMED and they saw His glory (Luke 9:32). Also, on top of that mountain, once again, the Lord confirmed who Jesus was… a voice from the cloud said, “This is My dearly loved Son, who brings Me great joy. Listen to Him.” (Matthew 17:5 NLT)

Could this be why Jesus wants you to climb that mountain? Is there transformation taking place there? Does God want you to see His glory? Is God speaking and confirming things on top of the mountain? You will also find out that while Jesus was on earth, the top of the mountain was His favourite spot for prayer; a place where He connected with God… Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and He prayed to God all night (Luke 6:12 NLT).

Beloved, are you facing a mountain that refuses to shift? Some mountains we face have their uses. Could there be something up there the Lord wants you to see? And it’s not like you would remain there forever. What I like is that it was Jesus that led them up the mountain and you will also find that they all came back down from the mountain after their experience (Matthew 17:9). You too are no exception. Jesus is with you. Ask Him for the direction you need. Ask Him to hold your hand and trust that you will definitely come back down from that mountain after seeing what the Lord wants you to see.

And as he thus proceeded with his defense, Festus called out loudly, Paul, you are mad! Your great learning is driving you insane! But Paul replied, I am not mad, most noble Festus, but I am uttering the straight, sound truth. For the king understands about these things well enough, and [therefore] to him I speak with bold frankness and confidence. I am convinced that not one of these things has escaped his notice, FOR ALL THIS DID NOT TAKE PLACE IN A CORNER [in secret]. (Acts 26:24-26 AMPC)

Beloved, in Acts chapter 26, Apostle Paul gives a full account of his life before his encounter with Jesus Christ and he ends with this remarkable statement… FOR ALL THIS DID NOT TAKE PLACE IN A CORNER…

Don’t you think it’s the most beautiful thing when the Lord takes a life that Satan thought was definitely his; a life that no one could possibly see how any good can come of it; a life that was written off and transforms it in front of everybody to see? God is such an expert at such. He takes that life and says… “don’t write it off just yet. You wait until you see what I can do with it. Even the person in question is going to be so surprised at how I can transform their lives”.

Apostle Paul himself once argued with the Lord. He said…“After I returned to Jerusalem, I was praying in the Temple and fell into a trance. I saw a vision of Jesus saying to me, ‘Hurry! Leave Jerusalem, for the people here won’t accept your testimony about me.’ “‘But Lord,’ I argued, ‘they certainly know that in every synagogue I imprisoned and beat those who believed in you. And I was in complete agreement when your witness Stephen was killed. I stood by and kept the coats they took off when they stoned him.’ (Acts 22:17-20 NLT).

Paul must have said, “Can’t you see all the evil that I did? They know all these about me and they are bound to think that there’s no possible way I can change”.

Hmmm… Satan is such an expert at messing with your mind if you allow him. He has a way of making you replay your past life over and over again in your head so you see yourself as unworthy but… if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV)

Apostle Paul was a different person now and everybody could testify to that fact because… ALL THIS DID NOT TAKE PLACE IN A CORNER…

Beloved, is your journey, process, stripping… on display right now? Well, some have the privilege of hiding theirs while others don’t. However, like Apostle Paul, there would come a time that it would give such joy to present God’s handiwork to the world. Just wait and see what God does with your life.
