And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”‎ ‎And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” (Mathew 14:28-31 NKJV)

Beloved, according to the Oxford Dictionary,” transition is the process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another”. This was the position Peter found himself when He obeyed Jesus’ command to step out of the boat and walk on water. He had already stepped out and there was no way He could go back. He had taken the initial step to come out from where he was. He had resigned from his job and couldn’t go back. He had invested all his money in this project because He took a step of faith. However, uncertainty about the future started to torment him. What have I done? What if things don’t work out as expected?

Beloved, this is like when you thrust yourself into something but then, reality starts to set in and you start to think “what am I doing?” And then, the first sign of any kind of opposition causes you to seriously panic. However, if you don’t face opposition, then it’s probably not the Lord that called or sent you.

The key is that you must retain the same courage that kicked in at the beginning… You must retain the same boldness that kicked in at the beginning… You must retain the same faith that kicked in at the beginning. The key is stability. You should not be… blown about and tossed by the wind. For such a person ought not to think or expect that he will receive anything [at all] from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable and restless in all his ways [in everything he thinks, feels, or decides] (James 1:6-8 AMP).

Beloved, get rid of the doubt. That’s what caused Peter to start to drown. Get rid of the fear. The Bible says… For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of A SOUND MIND (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV).

A SOUND MIND… That’s what you need. The Amplified Bible Translation says… sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind…]

Beloved, you are to always remain calm… Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. And the peace of God [that peace which REASSURES the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours] (Philippians 4:6-7 AMP).

Fix your eyes on Jesus who called you out of the boat. He is the author and finisher of your faith (Hebrews 12:2)

My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9 AMP).

Beloved, have you ever been presented with something you’ve been desiring that you thought was really good only for the Lord to turn around and say ‘NO’, that’s not it?

Well, it takes a spiritually mature mind to know and accept that when God says ‘NO’ to something that you felt was that good and have rated to be about an 80 percent, rather than be disappointed, you ought to rejoice because when God says ‘NO’ to something, it simply means ‎He has something better in stock for you.

Our feature text says His ways are higher than your ways and His thoughts than your thoughts. So, this means that if indeed you’ve rated that thing you desire to be 80 percent, then you ought to consider what ‘better than 80 percent’ ‎would be. You ought to be saying… “Lord, so You mean You have something better than this in mind for me? Wow!!!”

Beloved, isn’t that a reason to start rejoicing? However, because we like to hold on to the ‘known’ rather than trust God, we see it as the end of the world and thereby struggle to let go but just like someone said;‎ “‘Do not downgrade’… What satan tempts you with is always less than what the Lord has already prepared for you in the spirit… What satan tempts you with should always be a confirmation that something better is on its way‎”.

Beloved, ‎please don’t make the mistake of settling for less than what the Lord has for you… Do not downgrade. Wait for the Lord’s choice for You. It is bound to exceed your expectations and blow your mind away for…‎ as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9 NKJV)

Most times we haven’t got a clue what the Lord has in stock for us but you must trust that He is up to something that exceeds your imagination. Why don’t you just trust the Lord on this one?

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11 NLT).

Now after this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant, AND FOR FIVE MONTHS SHE SECLUDED HERSELF COMPLETELY, SAYING, “This is how the Lord has dealt with me in the days when He looked with favor on me, to take away my disgrace among men.” (Luke 1:24-25 AMP)

AND FOR FIVE MONTHS SHE SECLUDED HERSELF COMPLETELY, SAYING…

Beloved, did you read that clearly? Elizabeth received a miracle from the Lord that she never thought was possible and it left her in awe for five good months. This is the kind of miracle that you can’t tell anybody for fear that they would wake you up from a dream. The Message translation says… It wasn’t long before his wife, Elizabeth, conceived. She went off by herself for five months, relishing her pregnancy. “So, this is how God acts to remedy my unfortunate condition!” she said.

This encouraged me so good because as I read further, I saw that it was the same miracle the angel of the Lord used to encourage Mary when it was her own turn to expect a miracle that would also leave her in awe.

After telling Mary the ridiculous word that she would be impregnated by the Holy Spirit and would have a child, he said… listen, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month. FOR WITH GOD NOTHING [IS OR EVER] SHALL BE IMPOSSIBLE.” Then Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel left her (Luke 1:36-37 AMP).

FOR WITH GOD NOTHING [IS OR EVER] SHALL BE IMPOSSIBLE…

Beloved, old Elizabeth became pregnant, AND FOR FIVE MONTHS SHE SECLUDED HERSELF COMPLETELY, SAYING, “This is how the Lord has dealt with me in the days when He looked with favor on me, to take away my disgrace among men. I read this and started counting at the tip of my fingers; we are five months away from the end of this year… August, September, October, November, and December. So, I started to pray that the Lord should give us a miracle in this month that would cause us to ponder for the rest of the year.

Beloved, do you believe this? Mary said… May it be done to me according to your word… It doesn’t matter what has happened in the past. The word of God says… “Do not remember the former things, or ponder the things of the past. “Listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even put a road in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert (Isaiah 43:18-19 AMP).

It didn’t matter that Elizabeth and her husband had served faithfully in the past without anything to show for it. In one moment, the Lord did it. He looked with favor on them and took away their disgrace. You are next in line. May it be done to you according to His word.

…What exalts someone doesn’t come from the east or west; it’s not from the south either. Rather it is God who is the judge. He brings this person down, but that person He lifts up (Psalm 75:6-7 CEB).

Beloved, I remember listening to the testimony of a lady who shared about a time she attended a mentorship programme. She said in the room, she was surrounded by people with such big titles that she felt totally out of place. As a result, she didn’t think she would have the chance of ever meeting with the mentor on a one to one basis so immediately the meeting was over, she took her bags and left.

However, in the hall way, while she was on her mobile phone, this well-known and established mentor came walking by with his huge entourage. He had already walked past her, however, about a few seconds later, he turned back and according to her, called her over and offered her an opportunity of a life time. Immediately, she heard the Lord tell her that “I told you that you don’t have to manipulate your way into what I’ve got planned for you. You don’t have to beg nobody; you haven’t got to drop no complimentary cards; nothing”. She said she was so glad that she stayed in her place because when the Lord is ready to promote you to the next level, He knows exactly where to find you.

Beloved, it’s interesting to think about all the things we do to exalt ourselves and get recognised but Jesus teaches us a simple lesson in humility. He said… “When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (Luke 14:8-11 NIV)

Beloved, what am I trying to say?

Promotion comes neither from the east nor from the west but from the Lord. Don’t’ loose sleepless nights over your next move. Why not just continue remaining faithful and see how the Lord directs your steps? He knows which doors He has opened for you and He knows where to locate you and He is the One that will usher you to the front seat.

Remember, you must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had and humble yourself and at the right time the Lord Himself will elevate you (Philippians 2:5-11 NLT).

Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain. It is vain for you to rise early, To retire late, To eat the bread of anxious labors—For He gives [blessings] to His beloved even in his sleep (Psalm 127:1-2 AMP).

Beloved, there are times when we have a very busy schedule that it can become overwhelming.
and we think the only way out is just to plough our way through – we think we must just keep going till things get done but this becomes at the expense of our precious sleep and our relationships including our relationship with the Lord.

This isn’t intentional. Many of us have the mind to try and make the Lord our top priority, spending ample time with Him; waiting on Him for His wisdom for direction and also resting in Him but we still find that we struggle but a while ago, I remember listening to Israel Houghton, the famous gospel artist, preach about the priority Jesus takes in our lives based on his famous song; ‘Jesus at the centre’. He said the problem with making Jesus our number one priority is that whether we like to admit it or not, thing pop up and regardless of how hard we try, we sometimes find that He drops down to number two and even further down our priority list as we get even busier.

To resolve this problem, instead of having a top priority list where Jesus is number one, he drew a circle and said we should place Jesus at the centre of it all. That way he never drops from number one position but is a part of everything we do. He demonstrated this using a wonderful illustration and I’m not sure whether I’ve explained it as well as he did but instead of having your top ten priorities listed one below the other, picture them spread around the edge of a circle and Jesus is at the centre of that circle. That way He becomes even a part of your eating and sleeping.

Also, my Study Bible notes say that “God is not against human effort but working to the exclusion of rest or to the neglect of family may be a cover up for an inability to trust God to provide for our needs. We all need adequate rest and times of spiritual refreshment. On the other hard this is not an excuse to be lazy. Be careful to maintain a balance: Work while trusting God, and also rest while trusting Him”.

Beloved, our feature text says the Lord… gives [blessings] to His beloved even in his sleep. The message translation says… it’s useless to rise early and go to bed late, and work your worried fingers to the bone. Don’t you know He enjoys giving rest to those He loves?

When you make the Lord your centre priority, you can go to rest knowing that He is working on your behalf and when you wake up, you find that you are refreshed and that He has put things in place which then requires less of your human effort.

Shalom!

13. July 2017 · Comments Off on GOD HAS THE POWER TO DO WHAT HE HAS PROMISED · Categories: Faith, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Promise, Trusting God

Without weakening in his faith, HE FACED THE FACT THAT HIS BODY WAS AS GOOD AS DEAD—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, BEING FULLY PERSUADED THAT GOD HAD POWER TO DO WHAT HE HAD PROMISED (Romans 4:19-21 NIV).

Beloved, I was having a discussion yesterday with a friend and we were talking about the fact that there are times God allows us to get to the position where we know that if God does not do this for me then we know beyond a doubt that it is not going to happen. Many times, because we’ve got options we don’t really get the opportunity to exercise our faith, but when a woman that has reached menopause is still expecting to have a child, then you know that she is waiting on God alone to make it happen and not man.

In our feature text above, Abraham was waiting on the promise of God to have a child and he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead however, he dared to believe God anyway. For him to face facts means that he knew without a doubt that there was no point looking at his situation. His focus had to be 100 per cent on the Lord. He was fully persuaded that God had the power to do what He had promised.

Beloved, I strongly believe that this is why the Lord makes us wait at times. He allows us get to that point when all other options are dead. At that point, we only have two options; give up or believe God. However, guess which option a lot of us settle for? We choose the former and give up but the Lord says… My righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back (Hebrews 10:38 NIV).

Beloved, Abraham should be our example. He did not weaken in faith. On the contrary, he was strengthened in his faith. He knew that God had the power to do what He had promised. Better still, we are to fix… our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before Him He endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:2 NIV)

Now, the question is… regardless of the condition of your situation and how dead it may seem, are you fully persuaded that God has the power to do what He has promised? If so, why not begin to give God the glory in advance.

Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for Me? (Jeremiah 32:26-27 NIV)

12. July 2017 · Comments Off on IS FEAR RULING YOUR LIFE? · Categories: Authority, Faith, Fear, Trusting God

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV).

Beloved, I remember visiting a friend once and her mum who was with her at the time looked so ill that I had to ask if she was sick. She said yes but my friend interrupted and asked her what her sickness was. She couldn’t give a straight answer but you could see fear written all over her face so with my big mouth, I went straight to the point and asked her what she was afraid of and then she mentioned something about not wanting to die abroad. Hmmm… As she’s well over 70, the fear of death has gripped her so badly that she had convinced herself that she was actually sick and somehow, she’s passed it on to my friend who became worried because looking at mum gave her a picture of how she was going to be at that age. Everyone now had something to be afraid of because unknown to many, fear is satan’s favourite weapon used masterfully against us.

Beloved, someone rightly said FEAR is the enemy’s brand of FAITH; his counterfeit of it and just as you receive from God through faith, you receive from satan through fear. Job said… The worst of my fears has come true, what I’ve dreaded most has happened (Job 3:25 MSG). So, is there any wonder why satan came knocking at his door?

Beloved, as God’s children, our attitude towards fear should be; ‘I WILL NOT LIVE IN FEAR’ because according to our feature text… God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind… so when the enemy threatens you, threaten him back.

The Lord says… Fear not [there is nothing to fear], for I am with you; do not look around you in terror and be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen and harden you to difficulties, yes, I will help you; yes, I will hold you up and retain you with My [victorious] right hand of rightness and justice (Isaiah 41:10 AMPC).

Beloved, we are told to cast… down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5 KJV). Today, if you have allowed fear to rule you, why not take a bold step and cast out that spirit of fear that is threatening to rule your life? It’s for freedom that Christ has set you free and I pray that you walk in this freedom and show satan he’s fighting a defeated battle.

11. July 2017 · Comments Off on IGNORE THE MOCKERY · Categories: Choices, Jesus Christ, Relationship, Self Control, Spiritual Growth, Trusting God

When Sanballat, Tobiah, and Geshem the Arab heard of our plan, they scoffed contemptuously. “What are you doing? Are you rebelling against the king?” they asked”. (Nehemiah 2:19 NLT)

Beloved, over the past few days we have been led to pray against the intimidation of mockers because one of the tactics the enemy uses against us is MOCKERY. In our feature, Nehemiah tried to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem but received strong opposition from the enemy; opposition that included MOCKERY.

Nehemiah said… they scoffed contemptuously… To scoff someone means to mock or ridicule them. The Message translation says… they laughed at us, mocking, “Ha! What do you think you’re doing?”

Sanballat and his crew heard about the great work Nehemiah and his crew planned to do and began to laugh and mock them. The plan was to magnify the obstacles and make them feel little about themselves so that they become discouraged. “What do you think you’re doing? You are never going to make it. You will soon give up”.

Sanballat also mocked them of being too weak to finish the job. Nehemiah said… Sanballat was very angry when he learned that we were rebuilding the wall. He flew into a rage and mocked the Jews, saying in front of his friends and the Samarian army officers, “What does this bunch of poor, feeble Jews think they’re doing? Do they think they can build the wall in a single day by just offering a few sacrifices? Do they actually think they can make something of stones from a rubbish heap—and charred ones at that?” (Nehemiah 4:1-2 NLT)

Beloved, do you know anyone who just tries to ridicule you in front of others? They not just belittle you, they also belittle what you’re trying to achieve. But what do you think they’re trying to do? They want to demoralise you and make you question your abilities. “YOU’RE JUST TOO WEAK! YOU’RE NOT STRONG ENOUGH! YOU CAN NEVER ACHIEVE ANYTHING LIKE THIS?” They try to make you feel like you are bound to fail even from the very beginning and if you let them get to you, you’re already destined to fail. Then they would have won.

But why the anger? Why the mocking? Sanballat actually means ‘secret hatred’. So, don’t be surprised to find out that some people secretly hate you. You’re bound to discover this as soon as you step out to do anything good. Sanballat believed that if he could get into their minds by mocking them, he could stop them and that’s what satan does to paralyse you. His trick is to work on your mind to make you feel you’re not good enough. Many people won’t make a move because of fear that they might be mocked if they failed? They back down because no one likes to be mocked. However, Nehemiah didn’t back down. He took it to God in prayer, renewed his mind and continued to rebuild the wall (Nehemiah 4:4-6).

Beloved, are you going to allow mockery mess with your mind?

Now Eliab his oldest brother heard what he said to the men; and Eliab’s anger burned against David and he said, “Why have you come down here? With whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your presumption (overconfidence) and the evil of your heart; for you have come down in order to see the battle (1 Samuel 17:28 AMP).

Beloved, David was a man that faced so much discouragement and intimidation. He even faced it from his own brother. As he enquired about the fight with Goliath, we are told in our feature text that his very own brother tried to belittle him.

WITH WHOM DID YOU LEAVE THOSE FEW SHEEP IN THE WILDERNESS?

Beloved, do you know anyone who does their best to put you down at any opportunity they get? Why did Eliab have to use the word ‘FEW SHEEP’? Well, let’s remember Eliab was there when David was anointed king. He was there when Samuel bypassed all the brothers and waited for their dad to go and call David from attending to the said ‘FEW’ sheep he was looking after in the fields (1 Samuel 16:10-12). Eliab was rejected by God so I bet out of jealousy, he wanted to make David feel like he didn’t have what it takes but how did David respond? …. But David said, “What have I done now? Was it not just a [harmless] question?” Then David turned away from Eliab to someone else and asked the same question; and the people gave him the same answer as the first time (1 Samuel 17:29-30 AMP)

David basically ignored him but many of us would either get discouraged or try to go over our credentials to prove ourselves but all that’s just a distraction.

And then there was Saul… “Don’t worry about this Philistine,” David told Saul. “I’ll go fight him!” “DON’T BE RIDICULOUS!” Saul replied. “There’s no way you can fight this Philistine and possibly win! You’re only a boy, and he’s been a man of war since his youth.” (1 Samuel 17:32-33 NLT)

I like how the not so popular Voice translation put it. Saul said… Don’t be ridiculous—you can’t fight the Philistine. You’re only a youth, and he has been a warrior since his childhood. YOU LACK AGE AND EXPERIENCE.

Beloved, David faced discouragement on all levels. The people that were supposed to be closed to him tried to belittle him but his ability to ignore them all got him to his destination. Please know that the enemy is always going to use this to try to discourage you but it’s just so he can hinder you but like David, you must ignore and keep moving forward. Remember, God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34). Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin… (Zechariah 4:10 NLT)

07. July 2017 · Comments Off on DON’T FAIL UNDER PRESSURE · Categories: Decision making, Jesus Christ, Patience, Perseverance, Trusting God

If you fail under pressure, your strength is too small (Proverbs 24:10 NLT).

Beloved, our feature text is one of those texts that challengeus and when you start to read stories like that of Apostle Paul, you are bound to ask yourself; what have I really been through? There are many people that are considering quitting just because of the trials they’ve had to face, however, can you compare what you’ve been through to that of Apostle Paul?

Apostle Paul said …I have worked harder, been put in prison more often, been whipped times without number, and faced death again and again. Five different times the Jewish leaders gave me thirty-nine lashes. Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked. Once I spent a whole night and a day adrift at sea. I have traveled on many long journeys. I have faced danger from rivers and from robbers. I have faced danger from my own people, the Jews, as well as from the Gentiles. I have faced danger in the cities, in the deserts, and on the seas. And I have faced danger from men who claim to be believers but are not. I have worked hard and long, enduring many sleepless nights. I have been hungry and thirsty and have often gone without food. I have shivered in the cold, without enough clothing to keep me warm. Then, besides all this, I have the daily burden of my concern for all the churches. Who is weak without my feeling that weakness? Who is led astray, and I do not burn with anger? (2 Corinthians 11:23-29 NLT).

Beloved, with all these trials, we aren’t told that it ever came across the mind of Apostle Paul to quit and say “Lord’ I’ve had enough”. Rather, he kept pushing through and according to one of my Bible notes… “Sincerity is a difficult thing to judge. THE COMMITMENT THAT PEOPLE HAVE TO A CAUSE CAN ONLY BE DETERMINED OVER TIME. One test might be: do they persevere through hardships and challenges? In this regard, Paul is without equal. If the cause of Jesus were a fleeting interest or a halfhearted pursuit, then he would have given up after his first beating. But Paul’s compassion for those who did not know the beauty of the gospel was stubborn and unyielding. This persecutor-turned-emissary always had his critics. But who could call him insincere?”

Beloved, Apostle Paul endured till the end and his final testimony was… I have fought the good fight, I have stayed on course and finished the race, and through it all, I HAVE KEPT BELIEVING. I look forward to what’s in store for me: a crown of righteousness that the Lord—the always right and just judge—will give me that day (but it is not only for me, but for all those who love and long for His appearing) (2 Timothy 4:7-8 Voice).

I HAVE KEPT BELIEVING…

Beloved, what have you gone through that might make you want to give up? And then, give up to do what?
