Cast your bread on the surface of the waters, [be diligently active, make thoughtful decisions], for you will find it after many days (Ecclesiastes 11:1 AMP).

Beloved, are you one that’s so afraid of taking risk? Well, if you are, then our feature text is for you. The New Living Translation which titles this “The Uncertainties of Life” says… Send your grain across the seas, and in time, profits will flow back to you… while the Voice translation says… Don’t be afraid to release your bread upon the waters, for in due time you will find it.

According to my Bible notes, verse 1 to 6 of Ecclesiastes 11 “emphasise the element of risk and uncertainty in commercial and agricultural enterprise… Men and women must venture forth judiciously if they are ever to realise a gain, even though there is always a certain amount of risk”.

‘Judiciously’ means with good judgement or sense. So, off course you must use some sense in order to take a certain amount of risk or what some would call a calculated risk which is a risk that you consider worth taking because the result, if it is successful, will be so good.

Beloved, the Holy Spirit may have been nudging you to make some moves but you are afraid or perhaps waiting for all conditions to be perfect. However, Ecclesiastes 11 goes on to say… He who watches the wind [waiting for all conditions to be perfect] will not sow [seed], and he who looks at the clouds will not reap [a harvest]. Just as you do not know the way and path of the wind or how the bones are formed in the womb of a pregnant woman, even so you do not know the activity of God who makes all things. Sow your seed in the morning and do not be idle with your hands in the evening, for you do not know whether morning or evening planting will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both alike will be good (Ecclesiastes 11:4-6 AMP).

According to my Bible notes “the person who is so cautious that he must wait for ideal time before he makes a move is doomed to fail”.

Beloved, at times, all you need is a word from God which may not make sense to anyone including yourself but obedience is key which was what Peter did. Jesus told him… “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.” “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! (Luke 5:4-6 NLT)

I like Peter because he isn’t afraid to take risks. He would walk on water if he has to… Then Peter called to Him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus (Matthew 14:28-29 NLT).

Beloved, don’t be afraid to take risks. With Jesus, you never know the outcome.

“But suddenly, your ruthless enemies will be crushed like the finest of dust. Your many attackers will be driven away like chaff before the wind. SUDDENLY, IN AN INSTANT, I, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, will act for you with thunder and earthquake and great noise, with whirlwind and storm and consuming fire. All the nations fighting against Jerusalem will vanish like a dream! Those who are attacking her walls will vanish like a vision in the night (Isaiah 29:5-7 NLT).

Beloved, when the enemy attacks, we often think God is slow to come to our aid but even before you cry out, He has already seen and heard your cries and would often say ‘be still and know that I am God’. God said to Moses… “I’ve taken A GOOD, LONG LOOK at the affliction of my people in Egypt. I’ve heard their cries for deliverance from their slave masters; I know all about their pain. And now I have come down to help them, pry them loose from the grip of Egypt… (Exodus 3:7-8 MSG)

With God, a GOOD, LONG LOOK often feels like it is a very, very, very LONG LOOK; one that may take many years in human eyes but God is also a ‘SUDDENLY, IN AN INSTANT’ God. After the Lord spoke to Moses, it took some time before they could see any kind of deliverance. In fact, their situation became worse and when God eventually moved on their behalf, it was quite scary. As they left Egypt, their enemies came after them in full force and it seemed there was no way of escape for them… but Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. THE EGYPTIANS YOU SEE TODAY WILL NEVER BE SEEN AGAIN (Exodus 14:13 NLT).

Beloved, we know the story. That same day, they watched as the enemies that had tormented them for many, many years drown in the red sea. As a kid, every Christmas we watched this classic movie on Moses, the Israelites, and the red sea and it was quite a scene and it helped to visualise that moment when it all happened. Now, picture those moments and then meditate on Isaiah 29:5-7. God is the same God yesterday, today and forever. Don’t you think He can do the same on your behalf? What battle are you fighting that Jesus hasn’t already won?

The Bible says… When the Lord brought back His exiles to Jerusalem, it was like a dream! We were filled with laughter, and we sang for joy. And the other nations said, “What amazing things the Lord has done for them.” (Psalm 126:1-2 NLT). They couldn’t believe it and it is my prayer that you will also experience such laughter and joy SUDDENLY.

19. September 2017 · Comments Off on WALK BY FAITH · Categories: Action, Faith, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Trusting God

For we walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV).

Beloved, according to our feature text, our Christian walk is one where we walk by faith, not by sight. This means that if anything at all, your faith should increase as the evidence you see decreases and not the other way round. The Message translation says… It’s what we trust in but don’t yet see that keeps us going. So, is the fact that all evidence of what you are hoping for has disappeared keeping you going stronger in faith or has that voice overshadowed your mind; telling you that there’s no point… you shouldn’t bother anymore… that situation is dead and buried?

The Bible tells us of a time Jesus was interrupted by a lady in need while on His way to solve another man’s problem. We are told that… While He was still speaking to her, messengers arrived from the home of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue. They told Him, “Your daughter is dead. THERE’S NO USE TROUBLING THE TEACHER NOW.” But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “DON’T BE AFRAID. JUST HAVE FAITH.” (Mark 5:35-36 NLT)

Beloved, there are many voices telling you the same thing right now. These voices say it’s over. They say case closed. However, that’s lost hope. There’s no faith in that and without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). The good news is that Jesus knows those voices are speaking to you but He wants you to JUST HAVE FAITH and here’s something Jesus did that you too need to do.

When Jesus got to Jairus’ house and saw the crowd of negative voices… JESUS STOPPED THE CROWD AND WOULDN’T LET ANYONE GO WITH HIM EXCEPT PETER, JAMES, AND JOHN (THE BROTHER OF JAMES). When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw much commotion and weeping and wailing. He went inside and asked, “Why all this commotion and weeping? The child isn’t dead; she’s only asleep.” The crowd laughed at him. BUT HE MADE THEM ALL LEAVE… (Mark 5:37-40 NLT)

Beloved, on your journey of faith, there are some negative people and voices that can’t come along with you. For the kind of thing that Jesus wants to do in your life, get rid of the people laughing at you. Only those that can keep the faith alive are the ones that can come along. For everyone else… MAKE THEM ALL LEAVE… and that includes the voices in your head. What you need to do is to be surrounded by the word of God because faith comes by hearing (Romans 10:17).

Beloved, read your Bible. Replay those messages and prophecies. Be persistent in prayer, in praise and in worship and as you do so I pray that just like the case of Jaruis’ daughter, to your amazement, you would experience what you’ve been hoping for immediately stand up and walk (Mark 5:42).

“Then we turned around and headed back across the wilderness toward the Red Sea, just as the Lord had instructed me, and WE WANDERED AROUND IN THE REGION OF MOUNT SEIR FOR A LONG TIME. “Then at last the Lord said to me, ‘You have been wandering around in this hill country long enough; TURN TO THE NORTH (Deuteronomy 2:1-3 NLT).

Beloved, what do you do when caught up in a loop? You find yourself going around in circles doing the same thing over and over again without results. You find that you are stuck in one place and it seems there’s no way out.

In our feature text, Moses recaps the Israelites journey in the wilderness where they were in a similar situation. They had started their journey to their Promised Land but had to turn around and head back for the wilderness. Why? It was because when they were initially told to leave where they were, they complained about the journey ahead. They were afraid. They lacked courage because of the bad report brought back by those that went ahead of them. They were intimidated by giants and they failed to trust the Lord. It was a pity King David wasn’t around at the time to show them how to tackle giants.

Beloved, what bad report have you received from the people that have failed to achieve what you are trying to achieve that is now causing you to wander around in circles instead of moving forward? I like that the Lord gave them another chance and directed them to TURN TO THE NORTH and to prevent them from wasting their time and energy, He told them the places they should not occupy because it belonged to other people (Deuteronomy 2:5,9). Perhaps that’s the direction you need.

Moses continued, “Then the Lord said to us, ‘GET MOVING. Cross the Zered Brook.’ So we crossed the brook. “THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS passed from the time we first left Kadesh-barnea until we finally crossed the Zered Brook… (Deuteronomy 2:13-14 NLT)

THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS…

That’s how long it took them to wander and I can only think of the lame man by the pool of Bethesda. He had been lying there for THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS. His excuse was that… I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up. Someone else always gets there ahead of me.” Jesus told him, “STAND UP, PICK UP YOUR MAT, AND WALK!” (John 5:7-8 NLT)

Beloved, except you allow it, no one can get in the way of Jesus taking you to the higher level that He is calling you? The tradition of the environment this man found himself dictated that someone had to help him get there. However, what if they brought him a bad report each time? What if they were all about themselves? Jesus had to enlighten him; everyone here is in it for themselves. They all want to get out so you would be waiting a very long… STAND UP, PICK UP YOUR MAT, AND WALK

So, is Jesus speaking to you? Stop complaining. Stop being afraid. Stop being intimidated by giants. Trust the Lord and move forward.

For to us a Child shall be born, to us a Son shall be given; And the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. There shall be no end to the increase of His government and of peace… (Isaiah 9:6 AMP).

Beloved, whose government are you under? Our feature text informs us that under Jesus’ government, you have peace. You are counselled by a Wonderful Counsellor. He’s the kind of counsellor that would find you sleeping under the broom tree, wake you up, feed you (1 Kings 19:5-8) and when He feels you are ready to talk, He would ask you… “What are you doing here, Elijah?” (1 Kings 19:9 NLT). He’s the kind of counsellor that would address that spirit of heaviness and make you ask yourself… why are you in despair, O my soul? (Psalm 42:5). Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad?…

Beloved, could you be under a different government? Why have you allowed fear rule over you and snatch your peace? Jesus’ government is what we were promised. The Message translation of our feature text says… He’ll take over the running of the world. His names will be: Amazing Counselor, Strong God, Eternal Father, Prince of Wholeness. His ruling authority will grow, and there’ll be no limits to the wholeness He brings…

Under His government, like Peter, you should be able to sleep peacefully through a storm. We are told that… The night before Peter was to be placed on trial, he was asleep, fastened with two chains between two soldiers. Others stood guard at the prison gate (Acts 12:6 NLT). That’s because He observed His Governor do the same thing. Once they experienced a fierce storm but… Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke Him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t You care that we’re going to drown?” When Jesus woke up, He rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” (Mark 4:38-40 NLT)

Beloved, it’s time to… set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth (Colossians 3:2 NKJV). That’s where Jesus rules from and it is… with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation (Isaiah 12:3). So, think joyful thoughts… whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart]. The things which you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things [in daily life], and the God [who is the source] of peace and well-being will be with you (Philippians 4:8-9 AMP).

15. September 2017 · Comments Off on START SPEAKING LIFE INTO YOUR SITUATION · Categories: Action, God's Plan, Hope, Jesus Christ, Power and Authority, Restoration, Trusting God, Words

Then He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones become living people again?” “O Sovereign Lord,” I replied, “you alone know the answer to that.” Then He said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to these bones and say, ‘Dry bones, listen to the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Look! I am going to put breath into you and make you live again! (Ezekiel 37:3-5 NLT).

Beloved, have you got an ‘ONLY GOD KNOWS’ situation‏? By this I mean, from the way things are going, you don’t have the confidence to say this is how this thing is going to turn out because in your eyes, it is more or less a dead situation. Such was the case with Ezekiel in our feature text but the Lord showed him that he could speak the word of the Lord over the situation to make it live again.

In the same way, you shouldn’t just sit there and watch things die. You should respond by prophesying life into that situation. If you know the mind of Christ then you know what He desires. Jesus said… The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life (John 10:10 NLT). His word also says… Beloved, I pray that in every way you may succeed and prosper and be in good health [physically], just as [I know] your soul prospers [spiritually] (3 John 2 AMPC). So, instead of sitting there wondering whether you would ever get well… whether you are ever going to succeed, why not prophecy and say “I’m going to get well… I’m going to succeed”. Locate what the word of God says and don’t stop speaking it.

Ezekiel said… So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and suddenly a rattling; and the bones came together, bone to bone (Ezekiel 37:7 EXB).

Beloved, Ezekiel said “So ‘I’”, not the Lord, ‘I’ prophesied and something happened and while it may be a progressive thing where you don’t see all the results at once, just keep prophesying… Then He said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to the winds, son of man. Speak a prophetic message and say, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, O breath, from the four winds! Breathe into these dead bodies so they may live again.’” So I spoke the message as he commanded me, and breath came into their bodies. They all came to life and stood up on their feet—a great army (Ezekiel 37:9-10 NLT).

This is what the Sovereign Lord says… So I spoke … and breath came into their bodies. They all came to life and stood up on their feet…

Beloved,… Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words (Proverbs 18:21 AMP). Why not start speaking life into your situation?

Then the Lord stretched out His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me, “Behold (hear Me), I have put My words in your mouth. “See, I have appointed you this day over the nations and over the kingdoms, To uproot and break down, To destroy and to overthrow, To build and to plant.” (Jeremiah 1:9‭-‬10 AMP)

Beloved, while you have some people who are very confident about talking even when what they are saying may make no sense, you have those people who shy away from speaking. “What will I say?” is a question that keeps going through their mind. “What if I say rubbish? People will either laugh at me or won’t take me seriously”. As a result, there are certain assignments they have refused to do.

Beloved, could the Lord be speaking to you right now? Are you asking, “What would I say?” Well, don’t worry about that. In our feature text, the Lord told Jeremiah… I have put My words in your mouth…

We see this again in the book of Isaiah where the Lord said… I have put My words in your mouth and have covered you with the shadow of My hand… (ISAIAH 51:16 AMP)

Beloved, for some of us, we have the insecurities Moses had about his speaking ability but I was reading about Apostle Paul who said… But even if I am unskilled in speaking, yet I am not [untrained] in knowledge [I know what I am talking about]; but we have made this evident to you in every way, in all things (2 CORINTHIANS 11:6 AMP).

He could care less about people’s criticism and according to my Bible notes, “Paul may have lacked gifts as a professional speaker but he did not lack knowledge since he had received direct revelation from the Lord (Galatians 1:11-12).”

Beloved… there is a season (a time appointed) for everything and a time for every delight and event or purpose under heaven… A time to keep silent and a time to speak (ECCLESIASTES 3:1‭, ‬7 AMP). This is the time to speak.

Jesus told His disciples… When they bring you before the synagogues and the magistrates and the authorities, do not be worried about how you are to defend yourselves or what you are to say; for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.” (LUKE 12:11‭-‬12 AMP)

Ain’t we glad we have the Holy Spirit?

Beloved… God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity… (2 Timothy 1:7 NLT). It’s time to release what the Lord is downloading inside of you. Don’t let fear and worry stop you.

09. September 2017 · Comments Off on DON’T BE ADAMANT ABOUT YOUR WAYS · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Obedience, Spiritual Growth, Trusting God

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts higher than your thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9 AMP).

Beloved, recently I was listening to someone say that when it comes to God, we should not be adamant about our own way ‎or we might just get it our way.

Hmmm… to be adamant means to put yourself in a position where you refuse to be persuaded or to change your mind about what you want. However, when your mind is set on having it your own way, you could be short-changing yourself because the Lord has made it clear to us in our feature text that His thoughts are not our thoughts, neither are our ways His ways. His thoughts and ways are higher than ours. The Message translation put it this way… “I don’t think the way you think. The way you work isn’t the way I work.” God’s Decree. “For as the sky soars high above earth, so the way I work surpasses the way you work, and the way I think is beyond the way you think.

This means that when you present the Lord with something you have been desiring; something you think is really good but then He turns around and says ‘NO’ that’s not it, you should be able to trust Him and let it go. However, if you are adamant and keep insisting that you want to have it your way, He may just let you have it your way but you would soon find out that you have short-changed yourself or downgraded.

Beloved, it takes a spiritually mature mind to know and accept that when God says ‘NO’ to something that you feel is that good and have rated very high in your own eyes, rather than sulk, you ought to rejoice because when God says ‘NO’ to something, it simply means ‎He has something better in stock for you.

The Bible says… Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; He’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all… (Proverbs 3:5-7 MSG)

The Amplified Bible says… Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, And He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way]. Do not be wise in your own eyes…

Being adamant about your own way may be the obstacle that is blocking your way or should I say blocking God’s way. However, our prayer should always be… ‘Our Father, who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:9-10 AMP)

Beloved, that’s when you begin to experience the best of God. DON’T BE ADAMANT ABOUT YOUR WAYS.

“All right, YOU MAY TEST HIM,” the Lord said to Satan. “Do whatever you want with everything he possesses, but don’t harm him physically.” So Satan left the Lord’s presence (Job 1:12 NLT).

Beloved, I wonder how Job would have handled his trials if someone had told him upfront that it was only a test. Would he have said some of the things he said like… I hate my life and don’t want to go on living. Oh, leave me alone for my few remaining days (Job 7:16 NLT). Or… What strength do I have left, that I should wait [and hope]? And WHAT IS AHEAD OF ME, that I should be patient and endure? (Job 6:11 AMP)

WHAT IS AHEAD OF YOU?

Now let’s see… So the Lord blessed Job in the second half of his life even more than in the beginning. For now he had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 teams of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys. He also gave Job seven more sons and three more daughters. He named his first daughter Jemimah, the second Keziah, and the third Keren-happuch. In all the land no women were as lovely as the daughters of Job. And their father put them into his will along with their brothers. Job lived 140 years after that, living to see four generations of his children and grandchildren. Then he died, an old man who had lived a long, full life (Job 42:12-17 NLT).

Beloved, there are some things we say when overwhelmed with the things we face and I wonder if unlike Job’s ignorance, knowing that it’s a test could help us find peace and stay calm.

Though Job’s friends did not make things easy for him, I like what Eliphaz said to him… “In the past you have encouraged many people; you have strengthened those who were weak. Your words have supported those who were falling; you encouraged those with shaky knees. But now when trouble strikes, you lose heart. You are terrified when it touches you. DOESN’T YOUR REVERENCE FOR GOD GIVE YOU CONFIDENCE? DOESN’T YOUR LIFE OF INTEGRITY GIVE YOU HOPE? (Job 4:3-6 NLT)

In order words, you should be able to encourage yourself and say I know where I stand with God… He knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold (Job 23:10 NIV).

Beloved, WHAT IF YOU KNEW IT’S ONLY A TEST? Would you react differently? Would you spend the time in the Lord’s presence praising and worshiping Him? Would you spend time in His word getting to know more about Him and His ways?

SELAH!

04. September 2017 · Comments Off on THE LORD ENJOYS SEEING HOW YOU START‏ · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Patience, Perseverance, Spiritual Growth, Trusting God

Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin… (Zechariah 4.10 NLT)

Beloved, do you know that the very thing that we tend to despise and get so frustrated about is the very thing that the Lord rejoices to see? He loves to see our attitude and how we appreciate what He’s started in our lives but we are always in such a hurry and at times we’ve got to stop and think… is this about God or is it about me? If it’s about God then, why don’t we move at His pace? Surely, the Lord knows we would face obstacles but He says don’t worry about that… “Zerubbabel is the one who laid the foundation of this Temple, and he will complete it… ‎(Zechariah 4.9 NLT)‎

So why does the Lord rejoice over our small beginnings? That’s where a solid foundation that would sustain us is built. That’s when He instils His godly values in us that’s if we give Him the chance to do so‎. At every step of the ways, I’ve come to realise that the Lord’s process is a much-needed process and I now tend to agree with Him that yes… this area and this area and that area needs to be worked on so please don’t give it to me yet because I agree that I’m not ready or fully mature to handle it.

Beloved, you have got to go through the maturing stage and when you’ve been faithful with little that’s when you would hear the Lord say… ‎” ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’‎ (Mathew 25:23 NLT)

The Lord isn’t against your enlargement. He definitely…. bestows favor and honor; no good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless (Psalms 84:11 NIV). ‎However, this is the problem… when you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in, and when your flocks and herds have become very large and your silver and gold have multiplied along with everything else, be careful! Do not become proud at that time and forget the Lord your God… never say to yourself, ‘I have achieved this wealth with my own strength and energy.’ Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful… (Deuteronomy 8.12-18 NLT).

Beloved, this is the reason why He sometimes takes us through a process of breaking so we aren’t carried away and so we become humble enough to know that if not for You Lord, I would be nothing.

Are you getting frustrated about your small beginnings? Perhaps you need to start to look at it from the Lord’s point of view and stop depriving Him of what He rejoices over… He has made everything beautiful in its time (Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV).
