[After all] the kingdom of God is not a matter of [getting the] food and drink [one likes], but instead it is righteousness (that state which makes a person acceptable to God) and [heart] PEACE AND JOY IN THE HOLY SPIRIT (Romans 14:17 AMPC).

Beloved, one of the things I’ve felt the Lord has been addressing this week is about our emotions and the question is; are you really experiencing peace and joy in your life? Are you really acknowledging God’s rule over your life? Are you really reigning in the kingdom of God? Is your mind always troubled over stuff? Most of us know how to talk the Christian talk, know what is right from wrong and can put on a show in public to make it seem like we’ve got it all together but behind closed doors, its tears, tears and more tears. You are always worried and anxious over the things going on around you; the things nobody else knows you are going through. You are saved no doubt but ARE YOU REIGNING IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD?

Where’s your peace? Where’s your joy? I like how the Message translation put our feature text… God’s kingdom isn’t a matter of what you put in your stomach, for goodness’ sake. IT’S WHAT GOD DOES WITH YOUR LIFE AS HE SETS IT RIGHT, PUTS IT TOGETHER, AND COMPLETES IT WITH JOY.

Beloved, are you waiting for everything to be perfect before you experience real peace and joy? Didn’t they say true joy isn’t based on what is happening around you but from the Holy Spirit that flows from within you? I don’t think Jesus promised that everything would be smooth. In fact, He made sure He prepared the minds of His disciples. Jesus said… I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NLT)

The storms of life happen to the just and the unjust but what differentiates the just from the unjust is the peace and joy that reigns over their lives while going through the storm; the kind of peace that Jesus gives that the world cannot understand.

Beloved, we’ve been given a solution for handling the storms of life… Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7 NLT). So, if you are struggling with experiencing real joy, why not ask the Lord today to… restore to you the joy of your salvation (Psalm 51:12) and see Him anoint you afresh with the oil of joy and gladness.

Then the Lord stretched out His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me, “Behold (hear Me), I have put My words in your mouth. “See, I have appointed you this day over the nations and over the kingdoms, To uproot and break down, To destroy and to overthrow, To build and to plant.” (Jeremiah 1:9‭-‬10 AMP)

Beloved, while you have some people who are very confident about talking even when what they are saying may make no sense, you have those people who shy away from speaking. “What will I say?” is a question that keeps going through their mind. “What if I say rubbish? People will either laugh at me or won’t take me seriously”. As a result, there are certain assignments they have refused to do.

Beloved, could the Lord be speaking to you right now? Are you asking, “What would I say?” Well, don’t worry about that. In our feature text, the Lord told Jeremiah… I have put My words in your mouth…

We see this again in the book of Isaiah where the Lord said… I have put My words in your mouth and have covered you with the shadow of My hand… (ISAIAH 51:16 AMP)

Beloved, for some of us, we have the insecurities Moses had about his speaking ability but I was reading about Apostle Paul who said… But even if I am unskilled in speaking, yet I am not [untrained] in knowledge [I know what I am talking about]; but we have made this evident to you in every way, in all things (2 CORINTHIANS 11:6 AMP).

He could care less about people’s criticism and according to my Bible notes, “Paul may have lacked gifts as a professional speaker but he did not lack knowledge since he had received direct revelation from the Lord (Galatians 1:11-12).”

Beloved… there is a season (a time appointed) for everything and a time for every delight and event or purpose under heaven… A time to keep silent and a time to speak (ECCLESIASTES 3:1‭, ‬7 AMP). This is the time to speak.

Jesus told His disciples… When they bring you before the synagogues and the magistrates and the authorities, do not be worried about how you are to defend yourselves or what you are to say; for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.” (LUKE 12:11‭-‬12 AMP)

Ain’t we glad we have the Holy Spirit?

Beloved… God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity… (2 Timothy 1:7 NLT). It’s time to release what the Lord is downloading inside of you. Don’t let fear and worry stop you.

But it greatly displeased Jonah and he became angry. He prayed to the Lord and said, “O Lord, is this not what I said when I was still in my country? That is why I ran to Tarshish, because I knew that You are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and great in lovingkindness, and [when sinners turn to You] You revoke the [sentence of] disaster [against them]. Therefore now, O Lord, just take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live.” ‎(Jonah 4:1‭-‬3 AMP)

Beloved, during one of our prayer sessions yesterday, we were led to our feature text. Here, Jonah is seen to have had this conversation with the Lord where he gave the Lord all his reasons why he didn’t want to go and minister to the people the Lord sent him to. “Why on earth are You interested in them? Can’t You see that they deserve to stay the way they are? Why do you want to extend your grace, compassion, and loving kindness to them?”

So, rather than go to the place the Lord sent him, he went in the opposite direction. The Bible says… But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the Lord… (Jonah 1:3 NLT).

Beloved, you would be surprised to know that there are people whom the Lord has assigned to minister to you in one form or the other but instead of obeying the Lord, like Jonah, they’ve argued or are still arguing with Him; “Lord, why do you want me to go and minister to that person? Can’t You see they don’t deserve it? Lord, why would You send me to go and bless that person, can’t You see that they don’t need it?”

These are some of the arguments they are having with the Lord and so, they have either gone or are deciding to go in a different direction. However, it’s all because of their limited perspective. The devil is also responsible for providing them with a list of excuses because he definitely doesn’t want you to receive what’s coming to you and that’s why we must not be ignorant… We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle… We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:3-5 NLT).

Beloved, we were also led to pray to enforce the Lord’s will which is our model prayer… Our Father, who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:9-10 AMP).

YOUR WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN…

Everyone opposing the Lord’s will has to give up and give in and so be it. SHALOM!

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4 NIV).

Beloved, parents train their children not to run from every battle. “Daddy, I don’t want to go to school today. Someone’s bullying me. They keep calling me names” but daddy says “Child, don’t run away from your battles. Don’t ever let anyone intimidate you. Whenever they call you ugly, stand up to them and say, I’m not ugly. My daddy says I am beautiful”. The child may continue to run until the day she decides to take her father’s advice and stand up to them. Then she realises that they were all mouth and no action. They backed off immediately she stood up to them. She gains some confidence and little by little, she becomes stronger and starts to win bigger battles.

In the same way, God wants you to develop spiritual muscles to be prepared for battle because in this life you would constantly face battles from the enemy. This is why… when Pharaoh finally let the people go, God did not lead them along the main road that runs through Philistine territory, even though that was the shortest route to the Promised Land. God said, “If the people are faced with a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” So God led them in a roundabout way through the wilderness … THUS THE ISRAELITES LEFT EGYPT LIKE AN ARMY READY FOR BATTLE (Exodus 13:17-18 NLT).

We also see this as they possessed their Promised Land. We are told the Lord didn’t drive out all their enemies. He left some… TO TEACH WARFARE to the descendants of the Israelites who had not had previous battle experience) (Judges 3:1-2 NIV).

Beloved, today, we fight spiritual battles and our feature text lets us know we are to fight spiritual battles with spiritual weapons. For example, if your battle is that of the mind, you don’t have to agree with those negative thoughts bombarding your mind. Fight it with the truth of what Daddy says.

The Israelites left Egypt like AN ARMY READY FOR BATTLE… You too need to… BE PREPARED. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. TRUTH, RIGHTEOUSNESS, PEACE, FAITH, AND SALVATION ARE MORE THAN WORDS. LEARN HOW TO APPLY THEM. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out (Ephesians 6:13-18 MSG).

Beloved, God supplies all the armour you need to defeat the attacks of the enemy but you must put them on… LEARN HOW TO APPLY THEM… The Lord is saying… go on child, you can do it… kick the devil with my PEACE. Pierce him with My WORD… Headbutt him with your SALVATION… LEARN HOW TO APPLY THEM…

02. May 2017 · Comments Off on DEALING WITH MATTERS OF THE HEART · Categories: Change, Choices, Jesus Christ, Mind, Motives, Thoughts

Search me [thoroughly], O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there is any wicked or hurtful way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting (Psalm 139:23-24 AMPC).

Beloved, King David was by no means a perfect man but one thing I’ve learnt about David is that he got the revelation that God, to whom it matters most, is always looking deep into the heart of man. With God, IT IS A MATTER OF THE HEART… Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord WEIGHS AND TRIES THE HEARTS (Proverbs 21:2 AMP). I believe that’s why you would always hear David say things like… Put me on trial, Lord, and cross-examine me. Test my motives and my heart (Psalm 26:2 NLT).

As Christians, this is so important. God already knows we are not perfect that’s why we have the help of the Holy Spirit. God looked down from His throne at all the people on the earth and said, “that’s the man I’m looking for” …HE RAISED UP DAVID to be their king; of him He bore witness and said, I have found David son of Jesse A MAN AFTER MY OWN HEART, WHO WILL DO ALL MY WILL AND CARRY OUT MY PROGRAM FULLY (Acts 13:22 AMP).

Beloved, do you think that when God looked down at David and said “this is a man after My own heart”, God did not know David was going to commit adultery, kill the husband and take his wife? But David always presented his heart before God. God said David… WILL DO ALL MY WILL AND CARRY OUT MY PROGRAM FULLY… How did David achieve this? …He knew all sorts of things can get in the way…self-ambition; wrong motives etc. so all day long he cried out… SHOW ME HOW YOU WORK, God; SCHOOL ME IN YOUR WAYS. Take me by the hand; Lead me down the path of truth. YOU ARE MY SAVIOR, AREN’T YOU? (Psalm 25:4-5 MSG)

God ‘RAISED UP DAVID’ meaning ‘TO TRAIN’ and David was willing to learn. He must have said “You called me into this thing; I did not call myself so SHOW ME HOW… This is a desperate cry for help from someone that knows that if you leave me to it, I’ll mess it all up. Even with good intentions, you can still miss it because… There is A WAY WHICH SEEMS RIGHT TO A MAN AND APPEARS STRAIGHT BEFORE HIM, but at the end of it is the way of death (Proverbs 14:12 AMPC). This means that as far as you are concerned, you may think you are doing the right thing but the end is disaster.

Beloved, this is a call to deal with matters of our heart. Personally, I’m by no means perfect but one thing I do is always present my heart before God; all my wrong motives, malicious thoughts etc and say… Lord help me. It’s time to be transparent before God and give the Holy Spirit permission to take over.

25. January 2017 · Comments Off on ARE YOU GUARDING YOUR HEART? · Categories: Change, Choices, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Mind, Thoughts

Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and ABOVE ALL THAT YOU GUARD, for out of it flow THE SPRINGS OF LIFE (Proverbs 4:23 AMPC).

Beloved, we are known to guard things precious to us…our possessions etc. but the Bible advises that ABOVE ALL THAT YOU GUARD, you must put a fence around your heart, keeping a watch on what goes in and out. Just as a source of water can go bad when polluted, one’s life can become corrupted if the heart isn’t guarded and we know that physically, an unhealthy heart makes for a poor quality of life.

Our heart is the centre of our emotions, feelings, thinking, reasoning and desires. It’s a place where life-changing decisions are made. Some people harden their heart because they’ve been hurt in the past and hence have stored up all the hurt, bitterness, unforgiveness… and trust me, you don’t want to be around such people because all that comes from that heart is hurt, bitterness, unforgiveness and they end up living a bitter life because that’s what they end up attracting.

Be careful what you store up in your heart. Jesus said… A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart… (Luke 6:45).

Now, here are some practical steps to take to guard my heart…

1) You’ve got to keep a check on your thoughts. Personally, I know what to think to immediately bring me to tears and make me so miserable for the rest of the day but I always have to immediately shake my head and say not today. You can’t imagine how many times I’ve had to say… SATAN GET LOST when he’s trying to fill my mind with all sorts of negative thoughts. Some people don’t think you can control your thoughts but you can.

2) You have to be good at making excuses for people so that people’s action doesn’t affect your emotions. You have to take time to study and understand where people are coming from. Our values, culture, background and experience all contribute to how we think and act. This helps in understanding why people are the way they are so why would you allow somebody’s experience shape yours?

3) Be careful about what you read. Beloved, I’m so quick to delete an email or text message immediately I sense that there’s something in it that would hit me the wrong way. This also means hiding some of my friends Facebook updates from my timeline immediately I sense anything that could arouse any negative thoughts or feelings.

Well, I’m just guarding my heart.

Beloved, what are some of the practical steps you can take to guard your heart? The Message Translation says… that’s where life starts… NLT says… for it determines the course of your life… KJV says… for out of it are the issues of life. Why not ask God to show you and as you do so I pray that you receive the grace to take the steps needed for a healthy spiritual heart. Meditate on Philippians 4:8

“Behold, God, my salvation! I will trust and not be afraid, For the Lord God is my strength and song; Yes, He has become my salvation.” Therefore with joy you will draw water from the springs of salvation (Isaiah 12:2-3 AMP).

Beloved, on monday, we lost an old classmate of ours. He was chatting with us in our WhatsApp group in the morning only to hear that he was dead hours later. The news of his passing made everyone very sad. He only got married 5 months ago, and we were all celebrating with him only to hear that he was now dead. It really made every one sad. It also made everyone reflect which made me become very low in spirit just thinking back at all the storms of life and I just couldn’t shake it off but then, I became even more annoyed that I found myself in that mood. Why on earth am I back here again? Why am I feeling like this? However, it was then that our feature text came to mind. I felt the Lord was trying to tell me that the enemy wants to stop your flow. Off course, it made sense. If it is with joy that we draw water from the wells of salvation, then it makes perfect sense that the enemy would always want to do things that would steal that joy so you have nothing to draw with.

The Voice translation says… With joy in each step, you will drink deeply from the springs of salvation… It makes perfect sense that the enemy would want to try and do things that would prevent you from taking those steps and that’s why we have to be intentional and do everything to fight for our joy. Apostle Paul said… Rejoice in the Lord always. AGAIN I WILL SAY, REJOICE! (Philippians 4:4 NKJV). You have to be reminded of this.

But how do you do this in such a case? Well, Apostle Paul also said… whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, THINK CONTINUALLY ON THESE THINGS [CENTER YOUR MIND ON THEM, AND IMPLANT THEM IN YOUR HEART] (Philippians 4:8 AMP).

It means rather than think of the sad moments, you must choose to center your mind on the good ones you had and implant them in your heart. We are told that we must… Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8 NLT).

Beloved, this thief wants to steal your joy so you have got to fight for it. Choose to think on the fun memories. The Voice translation says… Finally, brothers and sisters, fill your minds with beauty and truth. Meditate on whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is good, whatever is virtuous and praiseworthy.

08. December 2016 · Comments Off on WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO SETTLE FOR? · Categories: Agreement, Choices, Decision making, Identity, Jesus Christ, Mind

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” (Matthew 4:1-4 NKJV)

Beloved, someone was telling me of an experience they had when they first came into the UK. Unfortunately, at the time, they had no legal documents to work and so had to do whatever kind of job they could find. They basically had to do some hard work but according to them, they still thought there was hard work and then there was hard work with class. Out of desperation, they found themselves doing a job they felt was degrading. It was a job and anyone in their situation would be happy that they had a job but by the second day of the job, they were very upset that they had to do that sort of a job for money so they left and went home. They said they think they even cried when they got home but then they did something.

They had to sign and submit a daily timesheet in order to get paid but they looked at the timesheet and said to themselves “THIS IS NOT WHAT I WANT TO DO FOR MONEY” and then they tore the timesheet for the time they had worked. They were living with their sister at the time who felt they were silly to have done that. “You’ve already done the hard work. Yes, you can decide not to go there again but at least get paid for the job you’ve already done”. However, they didn’t listen to her. They went ahead and tore the timesheet.

So, beloved, why did they tear their timesheet? I’m sure it was a hard decision to make. They needed the money. However, I believe it’s because they were not going to allow desperation define what they would settle for and please don’t get me wrong, this isn’t about money. They went on to say that money can’t make you RICH. It is your mind-set that can but like I said, for me, this isn’t about money. It made me think of our feature text. Jesus was desperately hungry but He wasn’t prepared to settle for what the devil was proposing and it made me think of what we are willing to settle for.

Beloved, this would depend on whether you know who you are. King David said… I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, AND MY SOUL KNOWS IT VERY WELL (Psalm 139:14 AMP). The voice translation says… I carry this knowledge deep within my soul.

Beloved, does your soul (your mind, your will and your emotions) know who you are? Have you settled out of desperation?

28. November 2016 · Comments Off on GET READY FOR ANYTHING · Categories: Change, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Mind, Power and Authority, Relationship, Trusting God

I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency] (Philippians 4:13 AMPC).

Beloved, “I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me…” has got to be one of our most quoted Scriptures in the Bible, but when you really meditate on this scripture, you would come to the realisation that whenever you back down from doing anything that you are meant to do, you haven’t fully grasped the revelation of this text. My daughter has just come back from India after spending 3 weeks spreading the gospel and healing all manner of sicknesses in the name of Jesus Christ and to be honest, we didn’t want her to go because firstly she was going on her own and then we’ve heard of some of the things that have happened to Christians there but she heard from God and nothing was stopping her.

Was she afraid? Off course she was? But she heard God. In one of her meetings, they brought a woman with withered hands from birth and when she first saw her, she said to herself “oh my God I’m in trouble”, but that’s because for a minute, she looked at her own strength. However, because it is Jesus that heals, this woman moved her hands for the first time. Halleluiah!

Beloved, as Christians, when you understand that regardless of the task ahead of you, you are not relying on your own strength, but that of Jesus Christ, your ‘I CAN’T’ suddenly becomes… I can do ALL things…

The boldness of Peter and John always catches my attention. After healing the Crippled Beggar by the Beautiful Gate, they drew the wrong kind of attention and eventually landed in jail for preaching about Christ, but when they were brought before the rulers, the elders and the teachers of the law, Peter filled with the Holy Spirit, began to talk to them with such confidence. Where did this confidence come from? The Bible tells us that… when they saw the boldness and unfettered eloquence of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and untrained in the schools [common men with no educational advantages], they marveled; and they RECOGNIZED THAT THEY HAD BEEN WITH JESUS (Acts 4:13 AMPC).

They RECOGNIZED THAT THEY HAD BEEN WITH JESUS… That’s what a relationship with Jesus should do to you. It didn’t matter that they were unlearned, untrained and inexperienced, but they spoke with such boldness and eloquence of speech.

Beloved, when faced with a challenging task, instead of stepping down, we have to quickly accept that as far as it is God that has asked us to do it, then it means He knows we can do it. END OF STORY! On our part, what we have to do is renew our minds based on this ‘I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me’ Scripture. It’s a daily exercise for us all to… be transformed by the renewing of your mind? (Romans 12:2 NIV)

18. September 2016 · Comments Off on HAVE YOU HAD ENOUGH? · Categories: Jesus Christ, Mind, Rest, Restoration, Thoughts

Then he went on alone into the wilderness, traveling all day. He sat down under a solitary broom tree and prayed that he might die. “I HAVE HAD ENOUGH, LORD,” he said. “Take my life, for I am no better than my ancestors who have already died.” (1 Kings 19:4 NLT)

Beloved, these are the words of Prophet Elijah who had just finished calling down fire from heaven to consume a very wet sacrifice, humiliated Baal, the people’s god and killed 450 of its prophets and then called down rain after three and a half years of no rain. He had just finished doing great things for God but then here comes the enemy with what he knows how to do best; intimidation, frustration, depression, weariness… Jezebel threatened to kill him so he ran away as fast as he could to find a place to hide and now he wants to end it all.

Are you feeling like Elijah felt? Feeling down? Is the enemy bombarding your mind with rubbish, trying to get you to focus on the negative rather than on the great things God is doing in your life? Have you had enough and just want to give up? Have you withdrawn in to your shell? Well… thank God that He is Omnipresence and He knows where you are hiding. The Lord found Elijah in the cave where he was hiding and… said to him, “WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE, ELIJAH?” (1 king 19:9)

Could the Lord be asking you the same question today? Perhaps you are feeling down because you think that all your efforts have come to nothing but God is asking, “What are you doing in this lonely place after all you’ve achieved?” Several times the Lord asked Elijah the same question (See 1 king 19:9-14).

Elijah replied, “I have zealously served the Lord God Almighty. But the people of Israel have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed every one of your prophets. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me, too.” (1 Kings 19:10 NLT)

Elijah was about to give up based on the lie of the enemy. The Lord told Elijah, you’re not the only one… I will preserve 7,000 others in Israel who have never bowed down to Baal or kissed him!” (1 Kings 19:18 NLT)

Beloved, by now you should know how the enemy works. Know that there are great things ahead. What you need is for Jesus to energise you… Then the angel of the Lord came again and touched him and said, “Get up and eat some more, or the journey ahead will be too much for you.” (1 Kings 19:7 NLT).

Maybe you need time to recuperate but whatever you do, don’t give up.

May we never tire of doing what is good and right before our Lord because in His season we shall bring in a great harvest if we can just persist (Galatians 6:9 Voice).
