Then they came to Bethsaida; and some people brought a blind man to Jesus and begged Him to touch him. Taking the blind man by the hand, He led him out of the village; and after spitting on his eyes and laying His hands on him, He asked him, “Do you see anything?” And he looked up and said, “I see people, but [they look] like trees, walking around.” Then again Jesus laid His hands on his eyes; and the man stared intently and [his sight] was [completely] restored, and he began to see everything clearly. And He sent him to his home, saying, “DO NOT EVEN ENTER THE VILLAGE.” (Mark 8:22‭-‬26 AMP)

DO NOT EVEN ENTER THE VILLAGE…

Beloved, in our feature text, we see that before Jesus could heal this blind man, He first had to take him by the hand and lead him out of the village and after Jesus restored him, Jesus gave him strict instructions… DO NOT EVEN ENTER THE VILLAGE…

So, the question is why did Jesus say so? It’s probably because there are some toxic environments that are detrimental to you.

I was meditating on this Scripture and thinking about the fact there are some environments that the Lord would deliver you from and all you need to do is think of the process of that deliverance for you to know not to go near that environment anymore. The deliverance wasn’t a one time thing. Jesus had to revisit the case several times. This man needed several touches and the process was a messy one; spitting on his eyes and all that… you get the picture!

Beloved, when you go through such a process, you know to disassociate yourself from that environment. You know to keep your distance; “I love you with the love of Jesus but I have only just got my sight back and it costs me. So, I don’t want nothing from you. I don’t need to come back and defend my reputation. Say whatever you want to say about me. Think whatever you want to think of me. If I have done anything to offend you, I apologise from the bottom of my heart and I ask that you please forgive me but from now on, you do you while I do me. God bless you.

Beloved, unfortunately, Bethsaida was a “woe to you” environment. Jesus said… “Woe (judgment is coming) to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented and changed their minds long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes [to show deep regret for sin]. However, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you (Luke 10:13‭-‬14 AMP). And while we may never understand why Jesus would tell us to stay clear of certain environment, all we need to think of is our ‘before’ and ‘after’ picture and know that… It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery (Galatians 5:1 NIV).

12. September 2017 · Comments Off on WHAT’S IN THE TREASURY OF YOUR HEART? · Categories: Choices, Healing, Jesus Christ, Revelation, Thoughts

A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. WHAT YOU SAY FLOWS FROM WHAT IS IN YOUR HEART (Luke 6:45 NLT).

Beloved, I think what Jesus said here in our feature text is straight forward. If you want to know what’s in your heart, then pay attention to what comes out from your mouth. I remember some years back when someone had to sit me down and tell me that I was very negative. It was hard to accept then but it was true. It didn’t matter what positive comment you made, rather than say ‘thank you’, I found a way to think of something negative to say in response. And oh… the words that came out of my mouth were like fire. I could slice you into two with my mouth and I didn’t have to dig deep to think of what to say to spite or hurt you but going by Jesus’ statement, there comes a time when you’ve got to really sit down and think; Where’s all this coming from?

It even gets more complicated because… FOR AS HE THINKETH IN HIS HEART, SO IS HE… (Proverbs 23:7 KJV). This is no longer about what you say but about what you are thinking in your heart which is also influenced by what is stored in your heart, which then is what you become and what you attract.

Unfortunately, throughout life, we experience negative things and without realising it, we store them up. Soon enough, these things start to manifest in ways we can’t explain and then we say… “I can’t believe I just said or did that or I can’t believe this is what I’m becoming”. However, that’s because you are not taking care of your heart. You are told to… Guard your heart above all else, FOR IT DETERMINES THE COURSE OF YOUR LIFE (Proverbs 4:23 NLT). The NIV says… FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO FLOWS FROM IT.

Beloved, you may not be able to control some of the things that happen to you but you can handle things just by changing the way you think. I think I have shared before how growing up, there were times when we couldn’t afford to eat three meals a day and I remember we would all come together and just talk about the days when we ate something really nice. By the time we took turns to describe the nice meals we could remember, it cheered us up and we would all go to bed smiling. We had memories of all that nice food stored somewhere inside our hearts LOL.

Beloved, over time, I’ve had to do a lot of ‘FIND AND REPLACE’ to get rid of all the garbage in my heart. How do you replace? The Bible says… FIX YOUR THOUGHTS on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise (Philippians 4:8 NLT).

Can you think of any good thing to fix your thoughts on?

As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him? Day and night I have only tears for food, while my enemies continually taunt me, saying, “Where is this God of yours?” (Psalm 42:1-3 NLT)

Beloved, have you ever been very thirsty and longed for water during a very hot day? Have you noticed that on such occasions, it doesn’t matter how many cans of soft drink you consume, if it’s not water, it’s not water; it doesn’t quench your thirst and you find that immediately you come across some water (for me it’s ice water), it’s hard to describe the feeling of the cold water going down your throat.

That’s the picture I get when meditating on our feature text. It also reminds me of the famous worship song that says… ‘AS THE DEER PANTS FOR WATER SO MY SOULS LONGS AFTER YOU…’, and I remember the Holy Spirit ministering to me once as I worshiped with this song… “How does the deer pant for water?”, He asked. At the time, I wasn’t sure but I had to do some research and so here we go:

A deer pants (strongly desires) for streams of water because they’ve been in the desert; have been dried and heated up from the bites of destroying serpents. Also pursued by dogs, they escape into the water to hide. There, their scent is hidden and the enemy cannot find them; the water becomes a place of safety. So, in a nutshell, the desperate deer longs for a stream of water to quench 1) its thirst; 2) heal from any wounds as the water helps to stop its bleeding wound; 3) to find protection from its enemies; 4) refresh itself and find renewed strength.

Beloved, Psalms 42 is believed to be written by King David when driven from his country by his enemies. Interestingly, his soul didn’t pant after the comfort of his palace. Rather, his only wish was to be in the temple worshiping God. He sees his communion with God as an urgent need of his soul; as an absolute necessity as only God can quench his thirst… only God can shield him from his enemies and heal his wound as his enemy was probably his ungrateful son, Absalom.

So, beloved, with a better understanding of what it is to pant after water, we should be able to say… “You alone are my strength my shield, To You alone may my spirit yield… You alone are my heart’s desire and I long to worship thee…”

Beloved, just like only water could quench your physical thirst, only the Lord can quench your spiritual thirst and heal the wounds of your life and Today, Jesus is saying… “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink! 38 He who believes in Me [who adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Me], as the Scripture has said, ‘From his innermost being will flow continually rivers of living water.’” (John 7:37-38 AMP)

27. April 2017 · Comments Off on DEALING WITH THE ROOT OF ANGER · Categories: Anger, Healing, Jesus Christ

THE TABLETS WERE THE WORK OF GOD; the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tablets… When Moses approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, HIS ANGER BURNED AND HE THREW THE TABLETS OUT OF HIS HANDS, BREAKING THEM TO PIECES AT THE FOOT OF THE MOUNTAIN. And he took the calf the people had made and burned it in the fire; then HE GROUND IT TO POWDER, SCATTERED IT ON THE WATER AND MADE THE ISRAELITES DRINK IT (Exodus 32:16-20 NIV).

Beloved, to be honest, it doesn’t matter what anyone has done to you; Moses’ type of temper is some real temper that must be dealt with. How can you go about smashing things and forcing people to do the unspeakable?

I think the first thing to do is reflect on where this anger is coming from. Did Moses have issues? Neglect maybe? I was reading where someone said “it would seem reasonable to assume that his public outburst of anger… may indicate some repressed anger and resentment from his early years.”

Abandoned to your own fate in the river; growing up in the enemy’s house and watching their cruelty to your own people… including mummy and big sis… Was that why you committed murder? … One day, after Moses had grown up, he went out to WHERE HIS OWN PEOPLE WERE AND WATCHED THEM AT THEIR HARD LABOR. He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his own people. Looking this way and that and seeing no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand (Exodus 2:11-12 NIV). Something must have been eating away at him to lash out like that.

Beloved, repressed anger could be deadly so, if you think there are things eating you up from the inside, it’s time to take them to the Lord. You must know that it’s making your Christian walk and work harder. Apart from the fact that you may waste 40 years of your own in the wilderness which could be delaying your people’s/families breakthrough, also notice that the original TABLETS WERE THE WORK OF GOD; the writing was the writing of God. No effort of Moses. However, second time round… The Lord said to Moses, “CHISEL OUT TWO STONE TABLETS like the first ones, and I will write on them the words that were on the first tablets, WHICH YOU BROKE (Exodus 34:1 NIV). God didn’t fail to remind him.

Beloved, Moses didn’t get to see the Promised Land because of this same anger. Is your temper/anger preventing you from receiving what the Lord has promised you? You keep blaming the devil but we are told… When angry, do not sin; do not ever let your wrath (your exasperation, your fury or indignation) last until the sun goes down. LEAVE NO [SUCH] ROOM OR FOOTHOLD FOR THE DEVIL [GIVE NO OPPORTUNITY TO HIM] (Ephesians 4:26-27 AMPC).

How about doing some deep reflection and asking the Lord for healing?

On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty COME TO ME and drink. Whoever believes in Me, as Scripture has said, RIVERS OF LIVING WATER WILL FLOW FROM WITHIN THEM.” BY THIS HE MEANT THE SPIRIT… (John 7:37-39 NIV).

Beloved, most times there’s always the tendency to reach out to other things to fulfil our desires and needs but we often fail to realise what we carry on the inside. The KJV of our feature text says… OUT OF HIS BELLY SHALL FLOW RIVERS OF LIVING WATER. This is what Jesus promised us and BY THIS HE MEANT THE SPIRIT. Before Jesus was crucified, He said… I will ask the Father, and He will give you another COMFORTER (COUNSELOR, HELPER, INTERCESSOR, ADVOCATE, STRENGTHENER, AND STANDBY), that He may remain with you forever— The Spirit of Truth… you know and recognize Him, FOR HE LIVES WITH YOU [CONSTANTLY] AND WILL BE IN YOU (John 14:16-17 AMP).

So, what’s inside of you?

A COMFORTER is someone that comforts, eases, reliefs and relaxes you. A COMFORTER is one that helps you to feel less worried, upset or frightened. Most times, people would reach out to various things to get this comfort and I’m not about to list them but you know what you resort to. For me it’s mostly food. I’ve always got the tendency to turn to food to find some sort of satisfaction when I’m feeling down but we know the result of that; momentary satisfaction followed by a sense of guilt and a whole load of health-related problems… it’s not always the devil responsible for those health problems you know.

Beloved, it’s interesting when you do a Google search for COMFORTER that one of the first things you would see is a special type of blanket (quilts or duvets), filled with insulative material that gives you warmth. It is mainly used in cold countries and if you live in one, you know its value. Imagine that wrapped around you? Most times when it gets very cold, you can’t wait to get home and get under your duvet. But not just that, at times when you feel down, you just want to crawl in bed and with the lights off, cover yourself up from head to toe with your duvet, hoping that it would all go away and while it may help for a while, you can’t lie there forever.

However, everything you are looking for to give you relief is inside of you; OUT OF YOUR BELLY; which means you exchange worldly comfort, peace and joy for what has already been deposited inside of you. All you need to do is PUT YOUR HAND ON YOUR BELLY and say… IT’S IN ME… Holy Spirit… I need the kind of comfort that only You can provide.

If you forgive anyone, I forgive that one as well. Have no doubt, anything that I have forgiven—when I do forgive—is done ultimately for you in the presence of the Anointed One. It’s my duty to make sure that Satan does not win even a small victory over us, for we don’t want to be naïve and then fall prey to his schemes (2 Corinthians 2:10-11 Voice).

Beloved, there’s this saying that when two elephants fight, it’s the grass that suffers and recently, I was telling someone that they just happen to be the grass caught up in such a fight and it takes God to open your eyes to what’s going on around you.

We know the story of Leah and Rachel. They were sisters who found themselves in a predicament and spent the most part of their lives fighting each other over the same husband. However, after very many years of bitter rivalry, it got to the point when they finally came to their senses. They eventually realised that all this while, it was their father that was the real culprit. They had been seriously exploited by their father and by the time Jacob, their husband let them in on his plans to run away from their father, they were both up for it.

They both said to Jacob… “Do we still have any share in the inheritance of our father’s estate? Does he not regard us as foreigners? Not only has he sold us, but he has used up what was paid for us (Genesis 31:14-15 NIV). How sad! The Message translation says… “Rachel and Leah said, “Has he treated us any better? Aren’t we treated worse than outsiders? All he wanted was the money he got from selling us, and he’s spent all that”.

Beloved, there was definitely a feeling of betrayal going on here and while both sisters took it out on each other for a long while, they had to make peace in the end. At some point, they had to let go of the bitterness towards each other and identify the real culprit.

This is thought provoking because I have personally seen cases where for years, there’s been family wars where one person keeps pointing the finger at somebody else to make people believe that person is the one responsible for all the trouble in the family. However, we must know that satan is a real expert at knocking heads together while he secretly carry’s out his plans, so it’s always important for you to always pray for the Lord to open your eyes to see what’s really going on around you.

As Jesus predicts His death, “Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!” [but] Jesus turned and said to Peter, “GET BEHIND ME, SATAN!”” (Mathew 16:23-23 NIV)

GET BEHIND ME, SATAN!…

Beloved, it was Peters lips that was moving but Jesus could hear satan’s voice. We should be able to do the same… lest satan takes advantage of us… It’s time to let go of the strife and forgive and work together to cast out the real culprit.

Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o’clock prayer service. As they approached the Temple, a man lame from birth was being carried in. Each day he was put beside the Temple gate… so he could beg from the people going into the Temple. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some money. Peter and John looked at him intently, and Peter said, “Look at us!” The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money. But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” (Acts 3:1-6 NLT).

Beloved, one of the things that keep people bound is when they receive the wrong kind of solution to their problem or they receive what they think they want rather than what they really need. That’s a kind of bondage and in the case of this Crippled Beggar, it was over forty years of bondage (Acts 4:22).

Year in year out, he was carried out to beg for money and so that’s what he grew up to expect. And I’m sure that every time anyone approached the temple, he would start to pray that this one coming shouldn’t be stingy with their money. However, according to what a friend once said, when you keep saying that people are stingy, that’s not the real problem. The real problem is that you are a beggar or let’s just say you are always begging. Funny, but it’s very true. How do you know that guy is so stingy? It’s because you are always begging him for money. His stinginess is not the problem. You are a beggar and the reason why you beg is what should be dealt with.

Peter and John had to look at this man straight in the eye and say “begging for money is not what you really need… then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. And as he did, the man’s feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened. He jumped up, stood on his feet, and began to walk! Then, walking, leaping, and praising God, he went into the Temple with them (Acts 3:7-8 NLT).

Beloved, that was a problem of a life time solved…

It’s very easy to find yourself trapped with a problem because you’ve been prescribed the wrong kind of medication. However, like the old saying goes; give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Today my prayer is that God reveals the real solution to that PROBLEM OF A LIFE TIME and that you begin to walk in your total deliverance and freedom.

19. October 2016 · Comments Off on THE ‘WHY ME?’ QUESTION · Categories: Healing, Jesus Christ, Restoration, Revelation, Suffering, Trusting God

Once there was a man from Uz by the name of Job. He was a very good man—his character spotless, his integrity unquestioned. In fact, he so believed in God that he sought to honor Him in all things. He deliberately avoided evil in all of his affairs (Job 1‎:1 Voice).

Beloved, a wise person said the greatest hindrance to healing and restoration is demanding to know WHY and it’s because we may never have the answers we are looking for and like Scripture says… we know in part and we prophesy in part (1 Corinthians 13:9 NKJV).

Every now and then, we are faced with situations that cause us to ask the “why me?” question and there’s no better person to ask this question than Job.

Job was nominated by God when He told satan… have you looked into the man, Job, My servant? He is unlike any other person on the whole earth—a very good man—his character spotless, his integrity unquestioned. In fact, he so believes in Me that he seeks, in all things, to honor Me and deliberately avoids evil in all of his affairs (Job 1:8 Voice).

So why me? I can almost hear Job say. These is one of those stories that has left us with unanswered questions which I don’t pretend to have answers to. However, all I know is that the devil is never one step ahead of God and he has his limits.

The Bible lets us know that… one day, it came time for the sons of God, God’s heavenly messengers, to present themselves to the Eternal One to give reports and receive instructions. The Accuser was with them there (Job 1:6 Voice).

Beloved, according to this translation, they all came to give reports and receive instructions including satan and God said to satan… I delegate this task to you. His possessions are now in your hand. One thing, though: you are not to lay a finger on the man himself. Job must not be touched. With that, the Accuser left the court and the Eternal’s presence (Job 1:12 Voice).

What I found even more interesting with this translation is that satan even helped Job by adding to his already impressive resume/CV. After his first attack, the Lord added that… I have found him to be unswervingly committed, despite the fact that you provoked Me to wreck him FOR NO PARTICULAR REASON, to take away My protection and his prosperity (Job 2:3 Voice).

Beloved, the text says for… NO PARTICULAR REASON… Really?

To be honest, I’m one of those people who would have loved to have answers to many things but I’ve come to realise that you would get a lot more peace when you let go of the aching desire to have answers.

Beloved, Why me? I don’t know. But I know this much. Job got a new revelation of the Lord. He said… I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes (Job 42:5 NLT) and… the Lord restored his fortunes. In fact, the Lord gave him twice as much as before! (Job 42:10 NLT)

…and each of you may return to your own family (Leviticus 25:10 VOICE).

Beloved, yesterday, I started writing about the season of family restoration; a season of shifting where the Lord is realigning people with new relationships, connections, churches etc.; people of your tribe, with your DNA that speak your language.

I also touched on the term ‘spiritual dumbness’ where you can’t express what God is showing you either because of your insecurities, you can’t believe He’s speaking to you or your circle makes you feel you aren’t hearing from God. So, let’s explore the term ‘spiritual dumbness’ and the link to your circle.

The Bible gives us a case study of one of Jesus’ healing… They brought to Him a man who was deaf and HAD DIFFICULTY SPEAKING, and they begged Jesus to place His hand on him. JESUS, TAKING HIM ASIDE BY HIMSELF, AWAY FROM THE CROWD, put His fingers into the man’s ears, and after spitting, He touched the man’s tongue [with the saliva]; and looking up to heaven, He sighed deeply and said to the man, “Ephphatha,” which [in Aramaic] means, “Be opened and released!” And his ears were opened, HIS TONGUE WAS RELEASED, AND HE BEGAN SPEAKING PLAINLY. (Mark 7:32-‎35 AMP)

JESUS, TAKING HIM ASIDE BY HIMSELF, AWAY FROM THE CROWD…

Beloved, I have come to realise that when Jesus removes you away from somewhere before He heals you, it reveals your environment has something to do with your situation. We see this with the blind man in the very next chapter… When they arrived at Bethsaida, some people brought a blind man to Jesus, and they begged him to touch the man and heal him. Jesus took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village… (Mark 8:22-23 NLT)

In both cases, in order for these men to see, hear and speak freely, Jesus had to take them away from their environment and in the case of the blind man, after healing him… Jesus sent him away, saying, “DON’T GO BACK INTO THE VILLAGE ON YOUR WAY HOME.” (Mark 8:26 NLT)

Back to ‘spiritual dumbness’; while we look at all these as physical conditions, Jesus is always looking at them spiritually, and He drew my attention to how He is speaking to certain people in this season but other voices in your environment are trying to drown His voice and shut you down because they make you feel ‘this can’t be God’. They’ve done it to the point that your tongue is tied. You dread taking part in any activities for fear of saying what the Lord is saying to you and you are turn between obeying God and the people. However, God has to drag you out of those places to connect you with the people of your tribe, with your DNA that speak your language where your TONGUE IS RELEASED TO SPEAK PLAINLY.

Don’t doubt it! Don’t fight it! Just allow Him lead you.

This man must be a murderer. He escaped the sea, but now justice has caught up with him. Paul simply shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no harm. The natives knew what to expect—rapid swelling followed by death—but when they waited a long time and saw that Paul suffered no ill effects of the bite, they changed their minds and concluded that he was a god (Acts 28:4-6 VOICE).

Beloved, this is one story that always makes me happy. As it happens… Paul was gathering firewood and helping build the fire. A viper had been hiding in some of the wood, and as it tried to escape the heat, it bit Paul on the hand. It sank its fangs in and wouldn’t let go (Acts 28:3 VOICE).

The natives saw the snake dangling from Pauls hand and immediately jumped into conclusions and unfortunately, this is a typical reaction. People observe what you are going through and immediately jump into conclusions, giving you all sorts of names while waiting for your downfall. However, let them wait I say. When the natives waited a long time and saw that Paul suffered no ill effects of the bite, they changed their minds and concluded that he was a god.

The interesting thing about this story is that after this incident, Paul was later hosted by Publius, the leading man of the island and we are told that… Publius’s father was sick, bedridden with fever and dysentery. Paul visited the invalid and prayed for him, placing his hands on Publius’s father. The man was cured. Soon people from all over the island who had diseases came, and they were cured as well (Acts 28:8-9 VOICE).

If the snake had succeeded in killing Paul, do you think these people would have received their healing? The viper probably attacked Paul because he was to deliver the town from its bondage. I took the pains to study the effects of a viper snake bite and one of its effect is vomiting and often diarrhoea and at times people don’t just fall sick but they are plagued with a spirit of infirmity.

Beloved, please know that the enemy might just be attacking you because of what you carry—the calling and the anointing of God on your life but be rest assured that as far as God has called you, no devil in hell can stop you. Jesus said… I’ve given you true authority. You can smash vipers and scorpions under your feet. You can walk all over the power of the enemy. You can’t be harmed (Luke 10:19 VOICE). Mark put it… They will be able to handle snakes with safety… They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed” (Mark 16:17-18 NLT).

I like how Paul responded. He simply shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no harm. Beloved, there are many things you need to shake off so you can suffer no harm. Shake off the slander, accusations, gossip, backbiting and stay focused on what’s important. THE FALSE SLANDER WOULD EVENTUALLY TURN TO PRAISE.
