Listen, your eye, your outlook, the way you see is your lamp. If your way of seeing is functioning well, then your whole life will be enlightened. But if your way of seeing is darkened, then your life will be a dark, dark place. So be careful, people, because your light may be malfunctioning. IF YOUR OUTLOOK IS GOOD, THEN YOUR WHOLE LIFE WILL BE BRIGHT, with no shadowy corners, as when a radiant lamp brightens your home (Luke 11:34-36 VOICE).

Beloved, how’s your outlook to life? Has your experience caused you never to see anything positive‎? Are you one that because of your experience always read meaning into everything people say? Are you one that because life has cause you to swallow a bitter pill, you now have no room for mercy? Whenever anyone crosses your path and they do anything to offend you, you immediately think of how to pay back and as a result people don’t want to be around you.

We all have filters through which we view life. If you are one that has suffered rejection, then there’s every possibility that you will interpret everybody’s action as an act of rejection. For example, if someone walks pass you and does not say good morning or good day. Now, there could be a number of reasons for this. There’s the possibility that they had a lot on their mind and so were lost in their thoughts and then there’s the possibility that they just didn’t see you. However, because of your rejection issues, you just conclude that they refused to say hello. Heaven help them if they cross to the other side of the road before they get to you. You immediately interpret that to mean that they are avoiding you and as far as you continue to interpret people’s actions this way, you remain a victim of your own malfunction because this isn’t what someone really did to you. It’s just how you have chosen to interpret their actions and like Jesus said… if your way of seeing is darkened, then your life will be a dark, dark place.

You are advised to… watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life (Proverbs 4:23 AMP). This means monitoring the things that you allow go in and go out of your heart. This includes the things you see and hear.

It also includes your thoughts and like a plane that is about to land, you are in a position to prevent certain thoughts from landing because if they do and you meditate on them, before you know it, your life becomes a bitter, dark mess because… as a man thinks so is he (Proverbs 23:7). But God’s word says you should… fill your minds with beauty and truth. Meditate on whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is good, whatever is virtuous and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8-9 VOICE) and… be transformed from the inside out by renewing your mind… (Romans 12:2 VOICE).

Shalom!

God bless you in Jesus Christ name

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9 NKJV)

Beloved, reading through the Old Testament, we find that as the Israelites were in transit, making their way from the land of Egypt where the Lord had called them out of into their Promised Land, they were given very strict commands, some of which have some serious repercussions that we could say were really harsh. God would sometime ask that people be stoned to death for their actions and like a young convert once said while trying to read through the OT… “God, what are You doing killing all these people? You are making Yourself look really bad”. However, one reason for this was to make sure there was no pollution amongst the people He had called out and to make a clear demarcation between God’s people and other nations who worshipped other gods.

Also, according my Bible notes… “the Lord chooses Israel from among all the nations to be His own people; but that choice, paradoxically, is for the sake of all the other nations too. ISRAEL IS SUPPOSED TO CREATE A MODEL SOCIETY, following His laws, and this is supposed to attract other nations to true faith in Him. Most of the Old Testament describes how the Lord is at work in close relationship with one nation. But it also provides continual glimpses… of the way that relationship is designed to be a vehicle to reach all nations. The “law” is a complex legal code designed to build a new society out of former desert wanderers.

The Israelites were supposed to be a model for the world and so are Christian’s of today but unfortunately, we can hardly tell the difference. We look just like those in the world with the way we act and even dress but Jesus said to God… They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth [set them apart for Your purposes, make them holy]; Your word is truth (John 17:15-17 AMP).

The Voice translation says… Like Me, they are not products of the corrupt world order.

In another place, He tells us… “You are the light of [Christ to] the world… Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good deeds and moral excellence, and [recognize and honor and] glorify your Father who is in heaven (Matthew 5:14-16 AMP).

The Message translation says that by being the light of the world… you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.

Referring to our feature text, a friend said… “we are a CHOSEN but FROZEN generation. I thought of this and perhaps we are frozen and aren’t making any effect on the world because instead of being a peculiar people, we have so blended in that the world can’t tell the difference”.

Beloved, how do you think we can start to affect our world?

Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

Servants, do what you’re told by your earthly masters. And don’t just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best. Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master you’re serving is Christ. The sullen servant who does shoddy work will be held responsible. Being a follower of Jesus doesn’t cover up bad work (Colossians 3:22-25 MSG).

Over the past few weeks, I watched as my friend complained bitterly about her house manager. My friend leaves the house at 6AM in the morning only to return between 9 and 10PM at night. Literally, half of that time is spent on traffic while the other half is spent on the phone complaining to her employee… “I’m paying you to supervise things around the house. I’m very busy at work all day and don’t expect to receive a phone call to resolve simply things that you can resolve yourself and then again, when I expect you to let me know of the things that are important, you don’t.”

This was something I witnessed. This person had a very nonchalant attitude and never used their initiative to do anything. Also, they would only do the minimum. Rather, they would just sit there reading their Bible.

Hmmm… but the thing is that they are a different person at church. They are very diligent in church and actually won the price for best service. That was the reason my friend employed them. Attending the same church and knowing she didn’t have a job, my friend felt finally I’ve found somebody that would be effective at what they did. Only to find out it was a different story outside the walls of the church.

My friend was torn. According to her, “she’s making me very unhappy. I’m finding that I’m complaining a lot. I have no peace where she is concerned but I don’t want to offend God by sending her away”.

Hmmm… what do you think? How do you think God would respond to this problem? Would He be offended if she lets her go? According to the above verse in Colossians, what does the Bible say about our service to our earthly employers? See also Ephesians 6:5-6, 1 Peter 2:18.

Are we meant to be one person in church and another at work? Like someone said… “When it comes to being a Christian, I would rather see it than hear it… I would rather see your faith in the excellency of your service than hear it on the loud speaker”

HOW DO YOU SERVE YOUR EMPLOYERS?

You are the light of the world… Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven (Matthew 5:14,16 AMP).

God bless you

Yes, though I walk through the [deep, sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I will fear or dread no evil, FOR YOU ARE WITH ME; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort me (Psalm 23:4 AMP).

A while ago, I read a joke of this text… “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I started wondering… what am I doing here?” Well, you can wonder all you like but there are times when life would take you to places you can’t avoid. However, the good news is that the text says… FOR YOU [GOD] ARE WITH ME.

The text is talking about the shadow of death and I was reading that a shadow is when something gets in between the light and the object it is aiming for. Hmmm… there are some things that have tried to come in between you and the light. Some of us have gone through some real pain and when you focus too much on it, the light seems to get more and more dense. However, you need to look back at your life and realise that if the devil could have killed you, he would have done it by now. You would have lost your mind by now. You would have fainted by now but YOU ARE STILL HERE. So when the devil comes threatening, you need to realise that it’s just a shadow. Though things are happening all around you, it won’t got you and that’s because you are not alone. God is with you. So get rid of that demon called Fear. Regardless of what’s threatening or standing in your face, don’t let it paralyse you.

YOUR ROD [TO PROTECT] AND YOUR STAFF [TO GUIDE], THEY COMFORT ME…

This text talks of two things; ROD and STAFF.

With the rod, the Lord beats back your enemies. God says be still let me fight your battles. If anyone comes too close that hasn’t got a good agenda for your life, He would beat them back. When people try to stand in the way, He has prepared for you, the Lord would get in there and I drive them out.

And then, there’s the Shepherd’s staff… I heard that the staff has a little hook on it so that whenever the sheep gets into a dangerous situation, the Shepard would take out his staff, throw it out and with that little hook, hook the sheep and pull it out. Have you ever had the Lord pull you out of some stuff? One minute it looks like there’s no way out but the next minute you are like… I don’t know how I got out of that situation. It’s the Shepherds hook.

Aren’t you glad that the good Shepherd would not allow what your enemies planned to happen to you? Rather, He reaches out for His staff and snatches you out of some stuff? Isn’t He worth following then?

To be continued…

God bless you

You are the light of the world… Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven (Matthew 5:14,16 AMP).

During our Sunday school study, we looked at the above verse and the question was asked – what does this mean and as Christians, how can we apply it to our daily living. The general consensus was that regardless of what we are passing through, we should always live a life that sends a positive message about our God to our neighbours, colleges and friends.

I then remembered a story I heard about a time a non-believer was in an airplane and all of a sudden they were alerted that there was major turbulence or something more serious (can’t really remember). However, while everyone was panicking, this non-believer went about saying confidently that nothing was going to happen to the plane. When asked why he was so confident, he said it was because he saw Billy Graham board the plane with them. Isn’t that something? A non-believer being assured of the fact that because of you, they are safe. That your grace would cover them and the fact that your GOD IS ABLE. The one thing I hope is that Billy Graham also felt that way.

As the light of this world, how do people in your neighbourhood, your work place or wherever you find yourself see you?

I am also reminded of the time Paul and Silas were locked up in prison… About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, AND THE OTHER PRISONERS WERE LISTENING TO THEM. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once ALL THE PRISON DOORS FLEW OPEN, AND EVERYONE’S CHAINS CAME LOOSE. The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped. But Paul shouted, “Don’t harm yourself! We are all here!” The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” (Acts 16:25-31 NIV)

Has your action or lifestyle provoked anyone to ask the question… WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED? HOW BRIGHT IS YOUR LIGHT SHINING?

God bless you

Speaking to her daughter-in-law… Naomi said, See, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods; return after your sister-in-law. And Ruth said, Urge me not to leave you or to turn back from following you; for where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people and YOUR GOD MY GOD. Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also, if anything but death parts me from you. (Ruth 1:15-17 AMP).

Have you ever wondered why Ruth was able to make such a statement? The Message translation says Ruth said… “DON’T FORCE ME TO LEAVE YOU; DON’T MAKE ME GO HOME…

I mean think about it. There was nothing attractive about Naomi’s situation. Her husband and two sons (including Ruth’s husband) had all died but there must have been something that Ruth saw in Naomi that attracted her to her God.

Ruth was what we would call in today’s terms an unbeliever. She was one of the people of the world. She was not born again. On the contrary, she came from a people that worshiped idols. But somehow, she got married into a Christian family and I can only guess that in her new home, she experienced what it meant to be a true Christian. Her mother-in-law must have shown her that… all other gods… they are the works of man… But You are the most high God… there is none like You. (LOL…Do you know that song?)

I read in one commentary that… “the conduct of one Israelitish woman [Naomi] in a foreign land was able to call forth a love and a confession of God like that of Ruth….”

Naomi lived in a foreign land surrounded by everything contrary to everything that was pleasing to God… a land full of sin and idol worshiping but she was still able to stand out and win a soul based on her character and conduct even when slapped in the face by serious adversity. Has anyone ever looked at you and asked… what is it about you? There is definitely something about you. Please let me in on the secret. I mean we are meant to attract people to the Lord. There should be some sort of magnetic force that should make people say… YOUR GOD WILL BE MY GOD

Jesus said… You are the light of the world… Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven (Matthew 5:14;16 AMP).

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path (Psalm 119:105 NIV).

On Sunday, I was sharing with the congregation that when you really get in to the Bible you would discover what an injustice you have been doing to yourself by not making it your best companion all this while. The question; how on earth have I survived without it comes to mind.

King David said… Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path… I heard that in those days, night travellers had to use ankle lambs to see in the night. They would put the lambs around their ankles so that they could see their way through. However, the problem with ankle lamps was that they couldn’t see down the road. They had just enough light to see the next step but that’s all they had and so they had no choice but to rely heavily on it. That is off course if they wanted to move forward. It just meant that they had to take one step at a time.

Today, as travellers in this world, we are often faced with questions like, how do I get out of this situation? How do I respond to this person? What’s the future going to be like? We want to see far down the road and we panic when we don’t know whats next but the word of God is what is meant to illuminate your path. The Message translation says… By your words I can see where I’m going; they throw a beam of light on my dark path… while the Expanded Bible says… IT SHOWS HOW LIFE SHOULD BE LIVED.

IT SHOWS HOW LIFE SHOULD BE LIVED… I have often found myself in a dilemma not knowing what to do next. However, that’s until I open my Bible; and there it is right in front of me; a word from the Lord to hold on to; to meditate on or to use in prayer and I have found that it does wonders.

The word also tells us how to live a life pleasing to God and we certainly know that… The steps of a [good] man are directed and established by the Lord when He delights in his way [and He busies Himself with his every step] (Psalm 37:23 AMP).

It does not matter where you are right now… it does not matter how dark the road is… YOU CAN SEE THROUGH THE DARKNESS if you decide to make the word of God your lamp… a light on your path. Remember we are advised to… study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do (Joshua 1:8 NLT).

God bless you

Merry Christmas

“You are the light of the world… Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:14-16 NKJV).

HEY…It’s Christmas day and I’m sure if you live in an area like mine, there are beautiful Christmas lights everywhere and people passing by are often attracted to those houses with Christmas lights displayed outside.

Well, as beautiful as they may seem, they are artificial. You carry the real thing so let what you carry shine and attract people to your house. Make someone see your light. Spread the… good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:10-11 NKJV).

Do have a very merry Christmas.

God bless you

Welcome to the month of June guys. Thank God we’ve made it this far.

I know everyone’s complaining about what a dark and wicked world we live in but many sources have revealed that there are about 2.1 billion Christians in the world (about one third of the total world’s population). If you are included in this figure, please hear what Jesus has to say about you;

“YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD… let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father (Matthew 5:14,16 NLT).

2.1 billion Light carriers and the world’s still very dark. How come? When just an ordinary match stick can light up a dark room. And the funny thing is that we are all going around in darkness, bumping in to things and each other when all you have to do is turn your light on.

Think about it. If you enter a dark room, you can complain all you want, but until you turn the light on, everybody including yourself remains in darkness.

So how can your light be turned on? The Amplified Bible says… Let your light so shine before men that they may see your MORAL EXCELLENCE AND YOUR PRAISEWORTHY, NOBLE, AND GOOD DEEDS…

Every time you perform an act of moral excellence, YOU TURN YOUR LIGHT ON… When all your married friends are cheating but despite the pressure, you decide to stay faithful; YOU TURN YOUR LIGHT ON. When everyone in the shop is shouting at the shop assistant because she’s slow but you decide to stay cool; YOU TURN YOUR LIGHT ON. When all your friends almost push down that old lady struggling with her shopping down the road as they walk pass but you turn around to assist her; YOU TURN YOUR LIGHT ON.

Soon, everywhere starts to become bright and people start to recognise and glorify your God. They would say, how do I get some of that light? Can you imagine what would happen if 2.1 billion Christian’s turn their lights on?

Proverbs 4:18 (NIV) says… The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, SHINING EVER BRIGHTER till the full light of day.

Your path is meant to shine more and more (brighter and clearer) until it reaches its full strength. All you need to do is stay connected to the power source; Jesus.

If there’s one thing you can do to brighten the world, what would it be? As for me… I must confess that there’re times when I join the office complaining team. My mouth goes off like fire until I’m back in the car and I hear that still small voice say; congratulations girl… How do you think you did today? Lord have mercy! Well… there’s this verse that says… Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, SHINING LIKE BRIGHT LIGHTS in a world full of crooked and perverse people (Philippians 2:14-15 NLT).

Dear friend’s, in this new month, let’s go out into the world uncorrupted, a breath of fresh air in this squalid and polluted society. Let’s provide people with a glimpse of godly living and of the living God… Isn’t that a good plan? Lord please help us.

God bless you
