And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”‎ ‎And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” (Mathew 14:28-31 NKJV)

Beloved, according to the Oxford Dictionary,” transition is the process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another”. This was the position Peter found himself when He obeyed Jesus’ command to step out of the boat and walk on water. He had already stepped out and there was no way He could go back. He had taken the initial step to come out from where he was. He had resigned from his job and couldn’t go back. He had invested all his money in this project because He took a step of faith. However, uncertainty about the future started to torment him. What have I done? What if things don’t work out as expected?

Beloved, this is like when you thrust yourself into something but then, reality starts to set in and you start to think “what am I doing?” And then, the first sign of any kind of opposition causes you to seriously panic. However, if you don’t face opposition, then it’s probably not the Lord that called or sent you.

The key is that you must retain the same courage that kicked in at the beginning… You must retain the same boldness that kicked in at the beginning… You must retain the same faith that kicked in at the beginning. The key is stability. You should not be… blown about and tossed by the wind. For such a person ought not to think or expect that he will receive anything [at all] from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable and restless in all his ways [in everything he thinks, feels, or decides] (James 1:6-8 AMP).

Beloved, get rid of the doubt. That’s what caused Peter to start to drown. Get rid of the fear. The Bible says… For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of A SOUND MIND (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV).

A SOUND MIND… That’s what you need. The Amplified Bible Translation says… sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind…]

Beloved, you are to always remain calm… Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. And the peace of God [that peace which REASSURES the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours] (Philippians 4:6-7 AMP).

Fix your eyes on Jesus who called you out of the boat. He is the author and finisher of your faith (Hebrews 12:2)

I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice which I had heard addressing me… said, COME UP HERE, AND I WILL SHOW YOU WHAT MUST TAKE PLACE IN THE FUTURE. At once I came under the [Holy] Spirit’s power… (Revelation 4:1-2 AMPC).

Beloved, I recently heard someone says that it was only when they started flying that they saw that all the buildings that looked so massive from the ground level became very tiny from above and the size decreased as they went higher till they could hardly see anything.

So true and probably why John who wrote the Book of Revelation was shown great revelations about things to come from above. He said… INSTANTLY I WAS IN THE SPIRIT (NLT)… I WAS CAUGHT UP AT ONCE IN DEEP WORSHIP (MSG) and his eyes were indeed open to the kind of worship that takes place in heaven. In fact, the whole of Revelation 4 is dedicated to describing it but then the next chapter records John crying over NOTHING. John said… I began to weep bitterly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll and read it. But one of the twenty-four elders said to me, “Stop weeping! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the heir to David’s throne, HAS WON THE VICTORY. He is worthy to open the scroll and its seven seals.” (Revelation 5:4-5 NLT).

“Really? Oh Okay”. I’m sure he must have asked himself… “why am I crying then? Everyone here is busy worshiping God and I am here crying over nothing”. The Amplified translation says Jesus has… OVERCOME AND CONQUERED…

Isn’t this what Jesus was trying to tell John and his other disciples when He said… I have told you all this so that you may have peace in Me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD.” (John 16:33 NLT)

Beloved, for John to get a revelation like this, he was not walking in the flesh but in the spirit. The flesh will tell you all the things that are wrong now but working in a spiritual dimension gives you insight into what the Lord is doing and the unstoppable victory that’s ahead regardless of your situation. WHILE JEREMIAH WAS STILL CONFINED in the courtyard of the guard, the Lord gave him this second message: “This is what the Lord says—the Lord who made the earth, who formed and established it, whose name is the Lord: Ask me and I WILL TELL YOU REMARKABLE SECRETS YOU DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THINGS TO COME (Jeremiah 33:1-3 NLT).

Beloved, the Lord wants you to come higher because those things that have blinded your vision looks tiny from above. You need to engage yourself in true worship; allowing the Holy Spirit to guide your life. You need to focus on developing your spiritual man so you are not tossed about by things going on around you.

Remember, things look so tiny from above.

If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone (Romans 12:18 AMP).

Beloved, about a week ago, I was faced with a situation where I had the option to confront somebody regarding a very unfair situation that in a nutshell involved what I was entitled to versus what they were entitled to. This situation was very obvious to everyone around and I had made up my mind about the steps I was going to take (I ain’t giving you the outstanding balance) but then, during my morning devotion, the Holy Spirit ministered to me to basically just let it go because in the long run, it wasn’t worth it. Moreover, the Lord had already provided the means to cover the situation so why argue over material things?

Before then and even before the situation occurred, the Holy Spirit had been speaking to me about ‘entitlement’ where we have this tendency to fall out with people over what we think is our entitlement rather than pursuing peace and after this incident, I could fully understand what He had been trying to tell me.

According to the Oxford Dictionary, the word ‘entitlement’ means ‘having a right to something’ or ‘the belief that one is inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment’ and as I began to pay attention to the word, the Scripture where Jesus talked to His disciples about offenses (Luke 17:1) and dealing with unforgiveness (Luke 17:3-4) came to mind. He continued His conversation by talking about how a good servant shouldn’t demand any special thanks for providing their services. A master… does not thank the servant just because he did what he was ordered to do, does he? So you too, when you have done everything that was assigned and commanded you, say, ‘We are unworthy servants [undeserving of praise or a reward, for we have not gone beyond our obligation]; we have merely done what we ought to do.’” (Luke 17:9-10 AMP)

In this illustration, we find that Jesus is simply talking about the things that could bring offense where the servant may think they are entitled to special thanks for providing their services. This can apply to all relationships and many situations. We get offended with people because we feel we didn’t get what we are entitled to and before knowing it, we allow offence, anger and bitterness spread its roots, giving the enemy a foothold (Ephesians 4:26-27 AMP).

Beloved, our feature text says… If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. The message translation says… Don’t hit back; discover beauty in everyone. If you’ve got it in you, get along with everybody. Don’t insist on getting even; that’s not for you to do. “I’ll do the judging,” says God. “I’ll take care of it.” (Romans 12:18-19 MSG)

Beloved, as a servant of God, in as much as my flesh wanted to fight back, I had to make the humble decision to just let it go and it gave me a tremendous amount of peace. Do you need to just let it go?

11. May 2017 · Comments Off on MASTER PEACE AS A WEAPON AGAINST THE ENEMY · Categories: Fruit of the Spirit, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Peace, Relationship, Spiritual Growth

…Truth, righteousness, PEACE, faith, and salvation are more than words. LEARN HOW TO APPLY THEM. You’ll need them throughout your life… (Ephesians 6:13-18 MSG).

Beloved, PEACE is an armour of God you can use to fight against the enemy. Your life needs to be governed by PEACE and I always like to use Peter as an example of how to use PEACE as a weapon.

Peter must have learnt from Jesus how to maintain peace in the midst of the storm (Mark 4:38-39)
because locked up in prison… the night before Peter was to be placed on trial, he was ASLEEP, fastened with two chains between two soldiers. Others stood guard at the prison gate. Suddenly, there was a bright light in the cell, and an angel of the Lord stood before Peter. The angel struck him on the side to awaken him and said, “Quick! Get up!” AND THE CHAINS FELL OFF HIS WRISTS (ACTS 12:6-7 NLT).

What? About to face death sentence and you are ASLEEP? Yes ASLEEP… AND THE CHAINS FELL OFF HIS WRISTS. This is the power of PEACE that confuses the devil who isn’t really after your house, marriage or child. He is just using it to access your peace of mind but if you can remain calm during the storm he will not know what to do with you.

Towards the end of Jesus’ time on earth, He told His disciples… PEACE I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.] (John 14:27 AMPC)

So, how do you remain calm during a storm? The Bible says… You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You, all whose thoughts are FIXED ON YOU! (Isaiah 26:3 NLT). This means DON’T WORRY about anything; instead, PRAY about everything. Tell God what you need, and THANK HIM for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7 NLT).

Beloved, we are also told that… If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone (Romans 12:18 NIV). This means do your own part to maintain peace at all times. You can’t control other people but you can control how you respond to them. When you know someone wants to start a fight with you, it takes great strength (not weakness) to walk away. Think before you respond to people. Don’t let the enemy win.

Jesus said… I have told you all this so that you may have PEACE IN ME. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world (John 16:33 NLT).

Beloved, why not learn how to FIX YOUR THOUGHTS on Jesus and those things that would bring PEACE in your life and then watch how your life is transformed.

27. February 2017 · Comments Off on STORMS HAVE NO POWER TO BRING YOU DOWN · Categories: Fear, Jesus Christ, Peace, Trusting God

After sending them home, He went up into the hills by Himself to pray. Night fell while He was there alone. Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water (Matthew 14:23-25 NLT).

Beloved, studying the story of Peter walking on water again, it has never become clearer to me that truly… STORMS HAVE NO POWER TO BRING YOU DOWN.

After a day of great ministration, Jesus needed some time away from everyone so He sent everyone away but then, His disciples found themselves in a storm and you would think that Jesus would come to their aid immediately they were in trouble. Oh NO! If you’ve walked long enough with the Lord, you would know that’s not His style. He took Him time. They were tossed about by the waves but Jesus did not move an inch. He allowed them to face the storm. It was almost morning before He came towards them. Jesus must have felt the storm wasn’t a problem.

However, in the same story, it’s interesting to see how Jesus reacted differently when it came to dealing with what we could call a man’s greatest enemy. We find out that Jesus came toward them, walking on the water but… when the disciples saw Him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in FEAR. But JESUS IMMEDIATELY SAID TO THEM: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” (Matthew 14:26-27 NIV)

Beloved, when fear gripped them, unlike the storm, Jesus immediately intervenes because He knows what fear can do. And then, of course, the second enemy is DOUBT. Peter the brave and courageous one was quick to take a bold step in the midst of the storm… but when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” IMMEDIATELY Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” He said, “why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:30-31 NIV)

That’s another immediate reaction from Jesus because if FEAR does not take you down, DOUBT is bound to do the Job. Was Peter brave? Yes! Brave people do things afraid anyway, but according to Jesus, it was his doubt that got him sinking. It was his doubt that got him to abandon what he started. But thank God that Jesus always pinpoints the real problem… TAKE COURAGE!… DON’T BE AFRAID… WHY DID YOU DOUBT?

Beloved, this tells me that it is not what happens to you that really matters but how you respond to what happens. FEAR and DOUBT are bound to take you down faster than the storm itself so do your best to rise about these two devils. Focus on Jesus and you too would be walking on top of what is drowning others.

23. February 2017 · Comments Off on THE LORD’S PLAN SHOULD GIVE YOU PEACE · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Joy, Peace, Trusting God

For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘PLANS FOR PEACE and WELL-BEING and not for disaster to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11 AMP).

PLANS FOR PEACE…

Beloved, from our feature text, every plan that comes from God ought to give you peace no matter how crazy it may sound at first. Anything short of that peace may not from God.

At this point, I am thinking of Mary the mother of Jesus whom till date must have received the most confusing plan ever given to mankind, yet instead of losing sleep over it, she pondered over it for a short while, asked her most important question and after receiving an answer that could be seen as even more confusing… Then Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel left her (Luke 1:38 AMP).

Beloved, that was it. God’s plan should come with peace and assurance even when it doesn’t exactly make sense. The key is to diligently seek the Lord for how to accomplish that plan.

The Lord says… Then you will call on Me and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear [your voice] and I will listen to you. Then [with a deep longing] you will seek Me and require Me [as a vital necessity] and [you will] find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you,’ says the Lord… (Jeremiah 29:12-14 AMP)

PLANS FOR WELL-BEING…

Well-being talks of your general health including your mental well-being. Are you sleeping well? Are you living stress-free? Are you eating well?

The Lord says… Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers (3 John 2 NKJV). That’s another plan the Lord has for you. Your soul talks about your mind, your emotions etc. and if they are not in line with what the Lord plans for you which should ultimately bring you peace, then something is wrong somewhere.

Beloved, when we remove the Lord from the equation and embark on our own plans, then things start to fall apart and we fall apart with them but the Bible says… Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain. It is vain for you to rise early, to retire late, to eat the bread of anxious labors— For He gives [blessings] to His beloved even in his sleep (Psalm 127:1-2 AMP).

Beloved, this is God’s plan for you and He says… Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV).

05. February 2017 · Comments Off on REACH INWARDS · Categories: Healing, Help, Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ, Joy, Peace

On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty COME TO ME and drink. Whoever believes in Me, as Scripture has said, RIVERS OF LIVING WATER WILL FLOW FROM WITHIN THEM.” BY THIS HE MEANT THE SPIRIT… (John 7:37-39 NIV).

Beloved, most times there’s always the tendency to reach out to other things to fulfil our desires and needs but we often fail to realise what we carry on the inside. The KJV of our feature text says… OUT OF HIS BELLY SHALL FLOW RIVERS OF LIVING WATER. This is what Jesus promised us and BY THIS HE MEANT THE SPIRIT. Before Jesus was crucified, He said… I will ask the Father, and He will give you another COMFORTER (COUNSELOR, HELPER, INTERCESSOR, ADVOCATE, STRENGTHENER, AND STANDBY), that He may remain with you forever— The Spirit of Truth… you know and recognize Him, FOR HE LIVES WITH YOU [CONSTANTLY] AND WILL BE IN YOU (John 14:16-17 AMP).

So, what’s inside of you?

A COMFORTER is someone that comforts, eases, reliefs and relaxes you. A COMFORTER is one that helps you to feel less worried, upset or frightened. Most times, people would reach out to various things to get this comfort and I’m not about to list them but you know what you resort to. For me it’s mostly food. I’ve always got the tendency to turn to food to find some sort of satisfaction when I’m feeling down but we know the result of that; momentary satisfaction followed by a sense of guilt and a whole load of health-related problems… it’s not always the devil responsible for those health problems you know.

Beloved, it’s interesting when you do a Google search for COMFORTER that one of the first things you would see is a special type of blanket (quilts or duvets), filled with insulative material that gives you warmth. It is mainly used in cold countries and if you live in one, you know its value. Imagine that wrapped around you? Most times when it gets very cold, you can’t wait to get home and get under your duvet. But not just that, at times when you feel down, you just want to crawl in bed and with the lights off, cover yourself up from head to toe with your duvet, hoping that it would all go away and while it may help for a while, you can’t lie there forever.

However, everything you are looking for to give you relief is inside of you; OUT OF YOUR BELLY; which means you exchange worldly comfort, peace and joy for what has already been deposited inside of you. All you need to do is PUT YOUR HAND ON YOUR BELLY and say… IT’S IN ME… Holy Spirit… I need the kind of comfort that only You can provide.

28. December 2016 · Comments Off on DON’T LIVE ON CHEAP SUBSTITUTES · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Joy, Peace, Relationship

The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows] (John 10:10 AMP).

Beloved, “when the Holy Spirit fills us, we see that this world’s seductive attractions are only cheap substitutes for what God has to offer”.

This is such a profound statement. I read it in my study Bible and felt it was worth underlining. One of the sure signs that you are really filled with the Holy Spirit and have allowed Him to take centre stage in your life is when you allow Him to lead you to all truth including the fact that this world’s seductive attractions are only cheap substitutes for what God has to offer.

I’m thinking of the time when Jesus changed water into wine during the Wedding at Cana… When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over. “A host always serves the best wine first,” he said. “Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!” (John 2:9-10 NLT)

Beloved, the funny thing about this story is that they probably thought they were having a blast with what they had before but had the wine not run out, they wouldn’t have known there was something better on offer. Could this be the reason why the Lord sometimes allows us to run out of the things we look to for satisfaction?

Also, when Jesus arrived on the scene, He did not come to stop the celebration. Rather, He gave them something better to celebrate with. In the same way, Jesus did not come to take away your life like most people think and therefore resist Him. Rather, our feature text says He came to give us an abundantly life. The Message translation says… I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.

Beloved, do you know that you can’t live an abundant life on cheap substitutes? As we end 2016 and approach the New Year, why not do a stock take of your life and see if there are areas where you are trying to survive on cheap substitutes. Where is your joy coming from? Where is your peace coming from? Where is the thing that gives you fulfilment and satisfaction coming from? Are you really satisfied?

24. December 2016 · Comments Off on WHOSE GOVERNMENT ARE YOU UNDER? · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Peace

For to us a Child shall be born, to us a Son shall be given; And the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. There shall be no end to the increase of His government and of peace, [He shall rule] on the throne of David and over His kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness from that time forward and forevermore… (Isaiah 9:6-7 AMP).

Beloved, using yesterday’s post “why are you still struggling?” as backdrop for this, today’s question is “whose government are you under?” This is the religious season where we go all out. Many shop till they nearly drop trying to get gifts for everyone but what gift have you given yourself? Like my daughter said recently, after everything you put yourself true, you end up spending Christmas depressed. Over the years, I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve heard people say “all I’m doing for Christmas is sleep all day” and I’m thinking that’s that spirit of heaviness but like king David did, one needs to ask yourself… why are you in despair, O my soul? (Psalm 42:5). Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad?…

Our feature text informs us that under Jesus’ government, you have peace. You are counselled by a Wonderful Counsellor. He’s the kind of counsellor that would find you sleeping under the broom tree, wake you up, feed you (1 Kings 19:5-8) and when He feels you are ready to talk, He would ask you… “What are you doing here, Elijah?” (1 Kings 19:9 NLT). You are under a different government. Why have you allowed fear rule over you and snatch your peace?

Beloved, whose government are you under? Jesus’ government is what we were promised. The message translation of our feature text says… He’ll take over the running of the world. His names will be: Amazing Counselor, Strong God, Eternal Father, Prince of Wholeness. His ruling authority will grow, and there’ll be no limits to the wholeness he brings…

Beloved, it’s time to… set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth (Colossians 3:2 NKJV). That’s where Jesus rules from and it is… with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation (Isaiah 12:3). So, think joyful thoughts… whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart]. The things which you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things [in daily life], and the God [who is the source] of peace and well-being will be with you (Philippians 4:8-9 AMP).

[The Man] asked him, What is your name? And [in shock of realization, whispering] he said, Jacob [supplanter, schemer, trickster, swindler]! And He said, Your name shall be called no more Jacob [supplanter], but Israel [contender with God]; for you have contended and have power with God and with men and have prevailed (Genesis 32:27-28 AMPC).

Beloved, we know the story of Jacob who spent a considerate amount of years running away from his brother because he stole his birth right and blessings. However, after having a taste of his own medicine from Laban… Then the Lord said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your father and grandfather and to your relatives there, and I will be with you.” (Genesis 31:3 NLT)

Beloved, the Lord’s instruction meant that Jacob had to go back and face his brother but not without wrestling it out with God first; a battle that resulted in a change of name and character. He was no longer Jacob, the supplanter, schemer, trickster, swindler. He was now Israel.

So, what happened next? We are told that Jacob went ahead to face his brother and… he bowed to the ground seven times as he approached his brother. But Esau ran to meet him. He embraced Jacob, kissed his neck, and they both cried (Genesis 33:3-4 Voice). So, why was it easy for Esau to receive his brother after everything that took place between them?

I remember someone saying it’s because Esau met with Israel and not Jacob. It was Jacob he had an issue with but Jacob was no more. He was dead.

Beloved, what am I trying to say? The word of God says… When a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him (Proverbs 16:7 AMP). The Voice translation says… When people make good choices, He is pleased; He even causes their enemies to live peacefully near them. The Message translation says… When God approves of your life, even your enemies will end up shaking your hand.

One thing I always tell the people I mentor or anyone I’m giving counsel to is that they shouldn’t focus on the people that have issues with them. Rather, your focus should be on working on improving yourself and pleasing the Lord. Yes, people may have a valid reason for pointing the finger at you or they may not, however, there’s nothing like ceasing every opportunity to grow. That’s what the Christian journey is about… And we all, with unveiled face, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed into His image from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:18 AMP).

Like the Apostle of my church would say #pre-me-glow… Same thing as saying “watch me glow or transform before your very eyes”

Beloved, today is the last day in November and we are about to enter December, the last month of 2016 and it’s another opportunity to reflect and examine your ways. In what areas has the Holy Spirit been dealing with you?
