Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28 NLT).

…CEASE STRIVING AND COME INTO REST

Beloved, I remember a time when the Lord spoke these words to me. He went on to say “the stress that you have allowed to dominate your life has hampered your sensitivity to My Spirit. BE STILL, My beloved. Release all that has become a burden… you must come to Me and cast your cares on Me. Allow Me to sweep away all that has hindered your walk and obstructed your view. Come now, and begin again. Let Me awaken you morning by morning; let Me awaken your ear to hear My voice so that I may lead you into a place of PEACE AND RESTORATION.”

BE STILL???

Beloved, this was an area the Lord revealed was hindering me but at the peak of your trials, when all hell is breaking loose, these are not the words you want to hear. Why aren’t You coming to my aid? BE STILL??? I fought the Lord on this one. How can I be still in the midst of all this chaos? But the Lord would not budge. BE STILL and know that I’m God, He said. I even remember waking up from sleep one morning to find I was reciting John 14:27… Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Beloved, why am I sharing this? Have you allowed worry to steal your peace? Unfortunately, the more you worry, the more negative things happen. Satan knows how to get a reaction from us and as far as we keep responding the way he desires, he would keep at it until we say no more.

The Lord wants us to come in to His rest to receive from Him. I once heard someone say he walked into the room to find his baby crying hysterically. What was wrong? Well, the baby was so hungry and then became very angry so wouldn’t calm down nor keep still so he could be fed, his wife said.

Isn’t this what God wants from us? To be still so we can hear and receive from Him. I’m thinking of Elijah… a great and strong wind rent the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire [A SOUND OF GENTLE STILLNESS AND] A STILL, SMALL VOICE (1 Kings 19:11-12 AMPC).

Beloved, it’s much easier to hear God when you are still. Worrying will not solve anything. It’s only a distraction. BE STILL! The Lord has plenty to tell you… Ask me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come (Jeremiah 33:3 NLT).

03. October 2017 · Comments Off on DON’T ALLOW FEAR RULE YOU · Categories: Decision making, Fear, Jesus Christ, Joy, Love, Peace, Relationship, Trusting God

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of SOUND JUDGMENT and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control] (2 Timothy 1:7 AMP).

Beloved, there are moments in our lives when we have to make crucial decisions and I remember going through a season where I needed to make a decision and was almost like a nervous wreck because I didn’t want to miss the will of God. Unfortunately, because I was so concerned about not missing God, the devil tried to torment the life out of me until the Lord began to minister to me about it.

Beloved, the first thing we ought to know about the nature of God is that He is good. If you don’t know any other attribute, know that He is good. What this should mean is that regardless of whatever you are going through, if you put it up against the goodness of God, you will find that it will always work out for your good (Romans 8:28).

There was the time Elijah was about to lose his mind because of the threat of the enemy. God accessed the situation and the first thing He did before anything else was give Elijah something to eat and drink, and then made sure he caught a good rest before asking him; what are you doing here? (1 Kings 19:5-9).

That’s the side of God the enemy doesn’t want us to see. Unfortunately, because our knowledge of God is wrongly influenced by our painful past experiences, we tend to develop that unhealthy fear where we say I can’t afford to make the wrong decision and yes, nobody wants to make wrong decisions but then, when you become so anxious about it that it’s disturbing your sleep, please know that the devil is behind it.

One way you know the devil is in operation is that there’s torment and fear and we must know that everything rooted in torment and fear is straight from hell. So, if at any point, you are left with feelings of anxiety, worry and fear of being punished by God for missing Him, these are clues that you are believing a lie from the enemy because the nature of God is good and if your heart and motivation is to please Him, He would always step in somehow. Jesus said… I will not abandon you as orphans… (John 14:18 NLT), I will be in you, prompting you to make the right decisions.

Beloved, everything rooted in love and joy is from God and one way you know that God is involved in it that there is love and peace. So, the question you need to always ask yourself is “does this bring peace? Does this bring joy? When you are trying to make a decision, that’s what you should put it up against.

Remember, God has given us a spirit of power and of love and of SOUND JUDGMENT… abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind.

Jacob said to Joseph, “God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me. He said to me, ‘I will make you fruitful, and I will multiply your descendants. I will make you a multitude of nations. And I will give this land of Canaan to your descendants after you as an everlasting possession.’ (Genesis 48:3-4 NLT)

Beloved, the above conversation took place between Jacob and Joseph towards the end of his life where he is telling his son about the covenant promise the Lord made to their family but because life happened to Jacob, it took this long for Him to remember this promise and I bet it’s only now he starts to see things differently. This was a man that had a personal encounter with the Lord where the Lord revealed the promise but the moment Jacob thought his son was dead, he decided it was all over, failing to realise that it didn’t matter what the situation looked like, all things were working out all along for his good (Romans 8:28).

Beloved, despite the Lord’s promise, Jacob focused on problems and so decided to live a depressed life. When He thought Joseph was dead… His family all tried to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. “I will go to my grave mourning for my son,” he would say, and then he would weep (Genesis 37:35 NLT). Later, he told Pharaoh… “I have lived 130 long, hard years, and I am not nearly as old as many of my ancestors.” (Genesis 47:9 TLB)

Jacob settled for a miserable life all because he believed in the situation presented before Him rather than the Lord’s promises. When he was eventually reunited with Joseph… Jacob said to Joseph, “I never thought I would see your face again, but now God has let me see your children, too!” (Genesis 48:11 NLT).

Hmmm… IF ONLY WE JUST TRUST GOD…

I read something interesting that Jacob told Joseph as he blessed Joseph’s sons. He said… THE GOD WHO HAS BEEN MY SHEPHERD [leading and caring for me] all my life to this day… bless the boys; (Genesis 48:15-16 AMP).

Really, Jacob? THE GOD WHO HAS BEEN MY SHEPHERD? Psalm 23 comes to mind… The Lord is my shepherd… He leads me… He guides me… Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me (Psalm 23:1-4 NIV).

So, Jacob, if the Lord is really your Shepherd,‎ why not just trust His leading… His comfort? Because even when He takes you through the darkest valley, it still leads to where He’s taking you.

Beloved, many of us can recite Psalm 23 but let’s not be like Jacob living it till the last minute to find peace. The Lord is either your Shepherd or He isn’t. If He is, then TRUST THE PATH HE LEADS YOU THROUGH and find peace and rest for your soul.

17. September 2017 · Comments Off on WHOSE GOVERNMENT ARE YOU UNDER? · Categories: Fear, Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ, Peace, Power and Authority, Relationship, Restoration, Thoughts, Trusting God

For to us a Child shall be born, to us a Son shall be given; And the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. There shall be no end to the increase of His government and of peace… (Isaiah 9:6 AMP).

Beloved, whose government are you under? Our feature text informs us that under Jesus’ government, you have peace. You are counselled by a Wonderful Counsellor. He’s the kind of counsellor that would find you sleeping under the broom tree, wake you up, feed you (1 Kings 19:5-8) and when He feels you are ready to talk, He would ask you… “What are you doing here, Elijah?” (1 Kings 19:9 NLT). He’s the kind of counsellor that would address that spirit of heaviness and make you ask yourself… why are you in despair, O my soul? (Psalm 42:5). Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad?…

Beloved, could you be under a different government? Why have you allowed fear rule over you and snatch your peace? Jesus’ government is what we were promised. The Message translation of our feature text says… He’ll take over the running of the world. His names will be: Amazing Counselor, Strong God, Eternal Father, Prince of Wholeness. His ruling authority will grow, and there’ll be no limits to the wholeness He brings…

Under His government, like Peter, you should be able to sleep peacefully through a storm. We are told that… The night before Peter was to be placed on trial, he was asleep, fastened with two chains between two soldiers. Others stood guard at the prison gate (Acts 12:6 NLT). That’s because He observed His Governor do the same thing. Once they experienced a fierce storm but… Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke Him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t You care that we’re going to drown?” When Jesus woke up, He rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” (Mark 4:38-40 NLT)

Beloved, it’s time to… set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth (Colossians 3:2 NKJV). That’s where Jesus rules from and it is… with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation (Isaiah 12:3). So, think joyful thoughts… whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart]. The things which you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things [in daily life], and the God [who is the source] of peace and well-being will be with you (Philippians 4:8-9 AMP).

16. September 2017 · Comments Off on ARE YOU REIGNING IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD? · Categories: Jesus Christ, Joy, Mind, Peace, Prayer

[After all] the kingdom of God is not a matter of [getting the] food and drink [one likes], but instead it is righteousness (that state which makes a person acceptable to God) and [heart] PEACE AND JOY IN THE HOLY SPIRIT (Romans 14:17 AMPC).

Beloved, one of the things I’ve felt the Lord has been addressing this week is about our emotions and the question is; are you really experiencing peace and joy in your life? Are you really acknowledging God’s rule over your life? Are you really reigning in the kingdom of God? Is your mind always troubled over stuff? Most of us know how to talk the Christian talk, know what is right from wrong and can put on a show in public to make it seem like we’ve got it all together but behind closed doors, its tears, tears and more tears. You are always worried and anxious over the things going on around you; the things nobody else knows you are going through. You are saved no doubt but ARE YOU REIGNING IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD?

Where’s your peace? Where’s your joy? I like how the Message translation put our feature text… God’s kingdom isn’t a matter of what you put in your stomach, for goodness’ sake. IT’S WHAT GOD DOES WITH YOUR LIFE AS HE SETS IT RIGHT, PUTS IT TOGETHER, AND COMPLETES IT WITH JOY.

Beloved, are you waiting for everything to be perfect before you experience real peace and joy? Didn’t they say true joy isn’t based on what is happening around you but from the Holy Spirit that flows from within you? I don’t think Jesus promised that everything would be smooth. In fact, He made sure He prepared the minds of His disciples. Jesus said… I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NLT)

The storms of life happen to the just and the unjust but what differentiates the just from the unjust is the peace and joy that reigns over their lives while going through the storm; the kind of peace that Jesus gives that the world cannot understand.

Beloved, we’ve been given a solution for handling the storms of life… Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7 NLT). So, if you are struggling with experiencing real joy, why not ask the Lord today to… restore to you the joy of your salvation (Psalm 51:12) and see Him anoint you afresh with the oil of joy and gladness.

And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”‎ ‎And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” (Mathew 14:28-31 NKJV)

Beloved, according to the Oxford Dictionary,” transition is the process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another”. This was the position Peter found himself when He obeyed Jesus’ command to step out of the boat and walk on water. He had already stepped out and there was no way He could go back. He had taken the initial step to come out from where he was. He had resigned from his job and couldn’t go back. He had invested all his money in this project because He took a step of faith. However, uncertainty about the future started to torment him. What have I done? What if things don’t work out as expected?

Beloved, this is like when you thrust yourself into something but then, reality starts to set in and you start to think “what am I doing?” And then, the first sign of any kind of opposition causes you to seriously panic. However, if you don’t face opposition, then it’s probably not the Lord that called or sent you.

The key is that you must retain the same courage that kicked in at the beginning… You must retain the same boldness that kicked in at the beginning… You must retain the same faith that kicked in at the beginning. The key is stability. You should not be… blown about and tossed by the wind. For such a person ought not to think or expect that he will receive anything [at all] from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable and restless in all his ways [in everything he thinks, feels, or decides] (James 1:6-8 AMP).

Beloved, get rid of the doubt. That’s what caused Peter to start to drown. Get rid of the fear. The Bible says… For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of A SOUND MIND (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV).

A SOUND MIND… That’s what you need. The Amplified Bible Translation says… sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind…]

Beloved, you are to always remain calm… Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. And the peace of God [that peace which REASSURES the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours] (Philippians 4:6-7 AMP).

Fix your eyes on Jesus who called you out of the boat. He is the author and finisher of your faith (Hebrews 12:2)

I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice which I had heard addressing me… said, COME UP HERE, AND I WILL SHOW YOU WHAT MUST TAKE PLACE IN THE FUTURE. At once I came under the [Holy] Spirit’s power… (Revelation 4:1-2 AMPC).

Beloved, I recently heard someone says that it was only when they started flying that they saw that all the buildings that looked so massive from the ground level became very tiny from above and the size decreased as they went higher till they could hardly see anything.

So true and probably why John who wrote the Book of Revelation was shown great revelations about things to come from above. He said… INSTANTLY I WAS IN THE SPIRIT (NLT)… I WAS CAUGHT UP AT ONCE IN DEEP WORSHIP (MSG) and his eyes were indeed open to the kind of worship that takes place in heaven. In fact, the whole of Revelation 4 is dedicated to describing it but then the next chapter records John crying over NOTHING. John said… I began to weep bitterly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll and read it. But one of the twenty-four elders said to me, “Stop weeping! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the heir to David’s throne, HAS WON THE VICTORY. He is worthy to open the scroll and its seven seals.” (Revelation 5:4-5 NLT).

“Really? Oh Okay”. I’m sure he must have asked himself… “why am I crying then? Everyone here is busy worshiping God and I am here crying over nothing”. The Amplified translation says Jesus has… OVERCOME AND CONQUERED…

Isn’t this what Jesus was trying to tell John and his other disciples when He said… I have told you all this so that you may have peace in Me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD.” (John 16:33 NLT)

Beloved, for John to get a revelation like this, he was not walking in the flesh but in the spirit. The flesh will tell you all the things that are wrong now but working in a spiritual dimension gives you insight into what the Lord is doing and the unstoppable victory that’s ahead regardless of your situation. WHILE JEREMIAH WAS STILL CONFINED in the courtyard of the guard, the Lord gave him this second message: “This is what the Lord says—the Lord who made the earth, who formed and established it, whose name is the Lord: Ask me and I WILL TELL YOU REMARKABLE SECRETS YOU DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THINGS TO COME (Jeremiah 33:1-3 NLT).

Beloved, the Lord wants you to come higher because those things that have blinded your vision looks tiny from above. You need to engage yourself in true worship; allowing the Holy Spirit to guide your life. You need to focus on developing your spiritual man so you are not tossed about by things going on around you.

Remember, things look so tiny from above.

22. May 2017 · Comments Off on JUST LET IT GO · Categories: Forgive, Freedom, Jesus Christ, Offense, Peace, Spiritual Growth

If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone (Romans 12:18 AMP).

Beloved, about a week ago, I was faced with a situation where I had the option to confront somebody regarding a very unfair situation that in a nutshell involved what I was entitled to versus what they were entitled to. This situation was very obvious to everyone around and I had made up my mind about the steps I was going to take (I ain’t giving you the outstanding balance) but then, during my morning devotion, the Holy Spirit ministered to me to basically just let it go because in the long run, it wasn’t worth it. Moreover, the Lord had already provided the means to cover the situation so why argue over material things?

Before then and even before the situation occurred, the Holy Spirit had been speaking to me about ‘entitlement’ where we have this tendency to fall out with people over what we think is our entitlement rather than pursuing peace and after this incident, I could fully understand what He had been trying to tell me.

According to the Oxford Dictionary, the word ‘entitlement’ means ‘having a right to something’ or ‘the belief that one is inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment’ and as I began to pay attention to the word, the Scripture where Jesus talked to His disciples about offenses (Luke 17:1) and dealing with unforgiveness (Luke 17:3-4) came to mind. He continued His conversation by talking about how a good servant shouldn’t demand any special thanks for providing their services. A master… does not thank the servant just because he did what he was ordered to do, does he? So you too, when you have done everything that was assigned and commanded you, say, ‘We are unworthy servants [undeserving of praise or a reward, for we have not gone beyond our obligation]; we have merely done what we ought to do.’” (Luke 17:9-10 AMP)

In this illustration, we find that Jesus is simply talking about the things that could bring offense where the servant may think they are entitled to special thanks for providing their services. This can apply to all relationships and many situations. We get offended with people because we feel we didn’t get what we are entitled to and before knowing it, we allow offence, anger and bitterness spread its roots, giving the enemy a foothold (Ephesians 4:26-27 AMP).

Beloved, our feature text says… If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. The message translation says… Don’t hit back; discover beauty in everyone. If you’ve got it in you, get along with everybody. Don’t insist on getting even; that’s not for you to do. “I’ll do the judging,” says God. “I’ll take care of it.” (Romans 12:18-19 MSG)

Beloved, as a servant of God, in as much as my flesh wanted to fight back, I had to make the humble decision to just let it go and it gave me a tremendous amount of peace. Do you need to just let it go?

11. May 2017 · Comments Off on MASTER PEACE AS A WEAPON AGAINST THE ENEMY · Categories: Fruit of the Spirit, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Peace, Relationship, Spiritual Growth

…Truth, righteousness, PEACE, faith, and salvation are more than words. LEARN HOW TO APPLY THEM. You’ll need them throughout your life… (Ephesians 6:13-18 MSG).

Beloved, PEACE is an armour of God you can use to fight against the enemy. Your life needs to be governed by PEACE and I always like to use Peter as an example of how to use PEACE as a weapon.

Peter must have learnt from Jesus how to maintain peace in the midst of the storm (Mark 4:38-39)
because locked up in prison… the night before Peter was to be placed on trial, he was ASLEEP, fastened with two chains between two soldiers. Others stood guard at the prison gate. Suddenly, there was a bright light in the cell, and an angel of the Lord stood before Peter. The angel struck him on the side to awaken him and said, “Quick! Get up!” AND THE CHAINS FELL OFF HIS WRISTS (ACTS 12:6-7 NLT).

What? About to face death sentence and you are ASLEEP? Yes ASLEEP… AND THE CHAINS FELL OFF HIS WRISTS. This is the power of PEACE that confuses the devil who isn’t really after your house, marriage or child. He is just using it to access your peace of mind but if you can remain calm during the storm he will not know what to do with you.

Towards the end of Jesus’ time on earth, He told His disciples… PEACE I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.] (John 14:27 AMPC)

So, how do you remain calm during a storm? The Bible says… You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You, all whose thoughts are FIXED ON YOU! (Isaiah 26:3 NLT). This means DON’T WORRY about anything; instead, PRAY about everything. Tell God what you need, and THANK HIM for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7 NLT).

Beloved, we are also told that… If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone (Romans 12:18 NIV). This means do your own part to maintain peace at all times. You can’t control other people but you can control how you respond to them. When you know someone wants to start a fight with you, it takes great strength (not weakness) to walk away. Think before you respond to people. Don’t let the enemy win.

Jesus said… I have told you all this so that you may have PEACE IN ME. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world (John 16:33 NLT).

Beloved, why not learn how to FIX YOUR THOUGHTS on Jesus and those things that would bring PEACE in your life and then watch how your life is transformed.

27. February 2017 · Comments Off on STORMS HAVE NO POWER TO BRING YOU DOWN · Categories: Fear, Jesus Christ, Peace, Trusting God

After sending them home, He went up into the hills by Himself to pray. Night fell while He was there alone. Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water (Matthew 14:23-25 NLT).

Beloved, studying the story of Peter walking on water again, it has never become clearer to me that truly… STORMS HAVE NO POWER TO BRING YOU DOWN.

After a day of great ministration, Jesus needed some time away from everyone so He sent everyone away but then, His disciples found themselves in a storm and you would think that Jesus would come to their aid immediately they were in trouble. Oh NO! If you’ve walked long enough with the Lord, you would know that’s not His style. He took Him time. They were tossed about by the waves but Jesus did not move an inch. He allowed them to face the storm. It was almost morning before He came towards them. Jesus must have felt the storm wasn’t a problem.

However, in the same story, it’s interesting to see how Jesus reacted differently when it came to dealing with what we could call a man’s greatest enemy. We find out that Jesus came toward them, walking on the water but… when the disciples saw Him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in FEAR. But JESUS IMMEDIATELY SAID TO THEM: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” (Matthew 14:26-27 NIV)

Beloved, when fear gripped them, unlike the storm, Jesus immediately intervenes because He knows what fear can do. And then, of course, the second enemy is DOUBT. Peter the brave and courageous one was quick to take a bold step in the midst of the storm… but when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” IMMEDIATELY Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” He said, “why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:30-31 NIV)

That’s another immediate reaction from Jesus because if FEAR does not take you down, DOUBT is bound to do the Job. Was Peter brave? Yes! Brave people do things afraid anyway, but according to Jesus, it was his doubt that got him sinking. It was his doubt that got him to abandon what he started. But thank God that Jesus always pinpoints the real problem… TAKE COURAGE!… DON’T BE AFRAID… WHY DID YOU DOUBT?

Beloved, this tells me that it is not what happens to you that really matters but how you respond to what happens. FEAR and DOUBT are bound to take you down faster than the storm itself so do your best to rise about these two devils. Focus on Jesus and you too would be walking on top of what is drowning others.
