Every builder had his sword secured at his side as he built. And the one who sounded the trumpet [to summon the troops] stood at my side (Nehemiah 4:18 AMP)

Beloved, our feature text is about Nehemiah and his team who were rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem but because of the strong opposition from their enemies, they had to build with their sword secured at their side. Today, we know the sword represents the word of God and it just gives a picture of how if you don’t hold on firmly to the word of God in a season when you are building, you may lose sight of what you set out to do in the face of strong opposition. Except you have the word of God in one hand, when the enemy comes to attack, it may shake you off balance. It could be a word of prophecy spoken over your life, whatever it is, you have got to remember and hold onto what the Lord said and speak it over and over again until you see its fulfillment.

Apostle Paul said to Timothy… Timothy, my son, here are my instructions for you, based on the prophetic words spoken about you earlier. May they help you fight well in the Lord’s battles (1 Timothy 1:18 NLT). The Amplified Bible says… This command I entrust to you, Timothy, my son, in accordance with the prophecies previously made concerning you, so that [inspired and aided] by them you may fight the good fight…

Concerning Nehemiah and his team, Nehemiah went on to say… So neither I, my brothers (relatives), my servants, nor the men of the guard who followed me, none of us took off our clothes; each took his weapon [even] to the water (Nehemiah 4:23 AMP)

This gives a picture of what we have been commanded to do as Christians which is to put on the whole armour of God.

Apostle Paul said… Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere (Ephesians 6:13-18 NLT).

Beloved, don’t go weary. Rather, equip yourself. You can’t do it unequipped. Remember… Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman keeps awake in vain (Psalm 127:1 AMP).

And Naomi said, See, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods; return after your sister-in-law. And Ruth said, URGE ME NOT TO LEAVE YOU or to turn back from following you; for where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people and YOUR GOD MY GOD. Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also, if anything but death parts me from you (Ruth 1:15-17 AMPC).

Beloved, have you ever wondered why Ruth was able to make such a statement? The Message translation says Ruth said… “DON’T FORCE ME TO LEAVE YOU; DON’T MAKE ME GO HOME…

Let’s think about it. There was nothing attractive about Naomi’s situation. Her husband and two sons (including Ruth’s husband) had all died but there must have been something that Ruth saw in Naomi that attracted her to her God.

Ruth was what we would call in today’s terms an unbeliever. She was one of the people of the world. She was not born again. On the contrary, she came from a people that worshiped idols. But somehow, she got married into a Christian family and I can only guess that in her new home, she experienced what it meant to be a true Christian. Her mother-in-law must have shown her that… all other gods… they are the works of man… But You are the Most High God… there is none like You. (Do you know that song?)

Beloved, I read in one commentary that… “the conduct of one Israelitish woman [Naomi] in a foreign land was able to call forth a love and a confession of God like that of Ruth….”

Naomi lived in a foreign land surrounded by everything contrary to everything that was pleasing to God… a land full of sin and idol worshiping but she was still able to stand out and win a soul based on her character and conduct even when slapped in the face by serious adversity.

Beloved, has anyone ever looked at you and asked… “what is it about you? There is definitely something about you. Please let me in on the secret”. We are meant to attract people to the Lord. There should be some sort of magnetic force that should make people say… YOUR GOD WILL BE MY GOD

Remember, Jesus said… You are the light of the world… Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven (Matthew 5:14;16 AMPC).

So, light, why not go and attract people to your source?

13. May 2017 · Comments Off on SALVATION AS A WEAPON · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Relationship, Salvation, Spiritual Growth

…Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and SALVATION are more than words. LEARN HOW TO APPLY THEM. You’ll need them throughout your life… (Ephesians 6:13-18 MSG).

Beloved, taking up SALVATION as your helmet is a great weapon you can use to fight against the enemy. It’s clear that the Helmet is used to protect the solders head but how does this apply to you?

Well, let’s see… A group of Jews was traveling from town to town casting out evil spirits. They tried to use the name of the Lord Jesus in their incantation, saying, “I command you in the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, to come out!” Seven sons of Sceva, a leading priest, were doing this. But one time when they tried it, the evil spirit replied, “I know Jesus, and I know Paul, but who are you?” Then the man with the evil spirit leaped on them, overpowered them, and attacked them with such violence that they fled from the house, naked and battered (Acts 19:13-16 NLT).

Serves you right. Do you think it’s everybody that is entitled to use that name?

Beloved, taking up SALVATION as your helmet is the confidence born again Christians have (1 Thessalonians 5:8). Although satan opposes God and tries to attack His people, you need to know that Jesus has already destroyed the works of satan. The cross has broken his power so you are fighting from a point of victory (Colossians 2:15).

There is this boldness that comes because you know what happens at the end; that you have already won the battle. When you watch an action movie for the first time, there’s anxiety because you don’t know the outcome but when you watch it again, no matter what goes on, you already know the outcome so you are more relaxed. Also, when you see a main actor in a movie like Arnold Schwarzenegger, you more or less know who would win. It may get very intense but somehow at the back of your mind, you know who is going to win because like we use to say back in the days; “An actor never dies.

That’s the kind of confidence your salvation gives. You must know that He that’s in you is greater than the devil so you need to protect your mind with the assurance that God has indeed saved and given eternal life to those who believe in Christ.

Beloved, Satan may have limited freedom to harass Christians but he does not have authority over you. He is like a dog attached to a chain.

We have the name of Jesus as a strong weapon and like David you must be able to tell your giant… “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord (1 Samuel 17:45).

Also remember that you… overcome (conquered) him by means of the blood of the Lamb and by the utterance of your testimony… (Revelation 12:11)

Beloved, be confident. You are more than a conquerer and as you use the name and blood of Jesus to fight against the enemy, be sure that you have won every battle thrown your way

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4 NIV).

Beloved, parents train their children not to run from every battle. “Daddy, I don’t want to go to school today. Someone’s bullying me. They keep calling me names” but daddy says “Child, don’t run away from your battles. Don’t ever let anyone intimidate you. Whenever they call you ugly, stand up to them and say, I’m not ugly. My daddy says I am beautiful”. The child may continue to run until the day she decides to take her father’s advice and stand up to them. Then she realises that they were all mouth and no action. They backed off immediately she stood up to them. She gains some confidence and little by little, she becomes stronger and starts to win bigger battles.

In the same way, God wants you to develop spiritual muscles to be prepared for battle because in this life you would constantly face battles from the enemy. This is why… when Pharaoh finally let the people go, God did not lead them along the main road that runs through Philistine territory, even though that was the shortest route to the Promised Land. God said, “If the people are faced with a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” So God led them in a roundabout way through the wilderness … THUS THE ISRAELITES LEFT EGYPT LIKE AN ARMY READY FOR BATTLE (Exodus 13:17-18 NLT).

We also see this as they possessed their Promised Land. We are told the Lord didn’t drive out all their enemies. He left some… TO TEACH WARFARE to the descendants of the Israelites who had not had previous battle experience) (Judges 3:1-2 NIV).

Beloved, today, we fight spiritual battles and our feature text lets us know we are to fight spiritual battles with spiritual weapons. For example, if your battle is that of the mind, you don’t have to agree with those negative thoughts bombarding your mind. Fight it with the truth of what Daddy says.

The Israelites left Egypt like AN ARMY READY FOR BATTLE… You too need to… BE PREPARED. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. TRUTH, RIGHTEOUSNESS, PEACE, FAITH, AND SALVATION ARE MORE THAN WORDS. LEARN HOW TO APPLY THEM. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out (Ephesians 6:13-18 MSG).

Beloved, God supplies all the armour you need to defeat the attacks of the enemy but you must put them on… LEARN HOW TO APPLY THEM… The Lord is saying… go on child, you can do it… kick the devil with my PEACE. Pierce him with My WORD… Headbutt him with your SALVATION… LEARN HOW TO APPLY THEM…

16. October 2016 · Comments Off on DON’T SETTLE FOR CHEAP SUBSTITUTES · Categories: God's Plan, Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ, Joy, Peace, Relationship, Salvation

After tasting the water that had become wine, the headwaiter couldn’t figure out where such wine came from (even though the servants knew), and he called over the bridegroom in amazement. This wine is delectable. Why would you save the most exquisite fruit of the vine? A host would generally serve the good wine first and, when his inebriated guests don’t notice or care, he would serve the inferior wine. YOU HAVE HELD BACK THE BEST FOR LAST (John 2:9-10 Voice)

“When the Holy Spirit fills us, we see that this world’s seductive attractions are only CHEAP SUBSTITUTES for what God has to offer”.

Beloved, the above is such a profound statement that I read in one of my study Bible notes that I felt was worth underlining. One of the sure signs that you are really filled with the Holy Spirit and have allowed Him to take centre stage in your life is when you allow Him to lead you to all truth including the fact that… this world’s seductive attractions are only cheap substitutes for what God has to offer.

We know the story in our feature text about how Jesus changed water into wine during the Wedding at Cana. This was Jesus first miracle and the funny thing about this story is that they all probably thought that they were having a blast with what they had before but had the wine not run out, they wouldn’t have known there was something better on offer. Could this be the reason why the Lord sometimes allows us to run out of the things we look to for satisfaction? That job? That relationship? That… ? You fill in the gap.

Beloved, the other thing to highlight about this story is that when Jesus arrived on the scene, He did not come to stop the celebration. Rather, what He did was give them something better to celebrate with. In the same way, Jesus did not come to take away your life like most people think and therefore resist what He is trying to do in your life. Rather, He said … I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows] (John 10:10 AMP).

Beloved, do you know that you can’t really live and enjoy an abundant life on cheap substitutes? Where is your joy coming from? Where is your peace coming from? Where is that thing that gives you fulfilment and satisfaction coming from? Are you really satisfied? The Lord has the very best in mind for you but perhaps there are so many cheap substitutes in your life taking up space that you don’t have room for what He wants to give you. So, why not do a stock take of your life and see if there are areas where you are trying to survive on cheap substitutes.

31. July 2016 · Comments Off on ASK FOR YOUR JOY TO BE RESTORED‏ · Categories: Jesus Christ, Joy, Salvation

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right and steadfast spirit within me… Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit (Psalm 51:10-12 AMP).

Beloved, are you at that place where you watch everybody so full of joy but it feels so different for you. Perhaps, for one reason or the other, it feels like the weight of the whole world is on your shoulder and you just can’t find anything to be joyful about. Well, you don’t have to remain that way. You can do something about it.

I remember watching my daughter once and seeing how she was so full of joy, it made me almost jealous of her because I wasn’t just in the mood that day but I began to ask myself; “what’s happening here?” This is how we should always be. Does it mean she didn’t have anything she was dealing with? I bet the answer was no but she was still joyful. As I watched my daughter so full of joy, our feature text came to mind… Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit…

You have got to get to that point where you tell God something is not right here. I need you to help restore back to me what I’m missing.

The other scripture that also came to mind was… Therefore with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation (Isaiah 12:3 NKJV). As I meditated on this text, I began to picture joy as a bucket‎ or jar and without it, you can’t partake of the goodness that comes with our salvation package. The Message translation actually says… Joyfully you’ll pull up buckets of water from the wells of salvation. However, if you don’t have joy, there’s nothing to fetch with

Beloved, one thing I have observed is that the devil just comes and throws all sort of things at us and we tend to think we can’t do anything about it. He says “be sad” and we are like “okay, I am going to be sad. He comes and says “cry” and we are like “okay I’ll cry. How long do you want me to cry for?” but that’s rubbish. You have got to be intentional about taking a hold of all that your salvation has been made available so that the… thief who has come to steal, kill and destroy… (John 10:10) ‎ does not steal it from you.

Beloved… the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17 NKJV). Do you need your joy to be restored? Go get you some Ron Kenoly’s ‘Righteousness, Peace and Joy (in the Holy Ghost)’ old gospel tune and dance to it all week as you ask the Lord to restore your joy.

Beloved… Be full of joy [Rejoice] in the Lord always. I will say again, be full of joy [rejoice] (Philippians 4:4 EXB).

… ‘ALL THESE YEARS I’VE SLAVED FOR YOU and never once refused to do a single thing you told me to. And IN ALL THAT TIME YOU NEVER GAVE ME EVEN ONE YOUNG GOAT FOR A FEAST with my friends. Yet when this son of yours comes back after squandering your money on prostitutes, you celebrate by killing the fattened calf!’ “His father said to him, ‘Look, dear son, you have always stayed by me, and everything I have is yours (Luke 15:29-31 NLT).

Beloved, the last thing that hindered the older son’s walk with his father was that while the younger son understood his identity and inheritance, the older son didn’t understand his identity and so tried to earn his own inheritance and father’s love by works. When you pay attention to what he actually says, you would notice a ‘servant’ versus ‘son’ relationship and there’s a big difference between the two.

In the book I reviewed titled ‘Walking with God devotional’, the authors wrote that “a servant is someone who is employed for service only. The person will get paid their dues but that is as far as the relationship can go. A servant has no say in any matter. A son, however, has a say in all the household matters. A son is in charge of his father’s house”.

They went on to say “consider this, I as a son of my father can enter my parents’ room without feeling timid, but if I have a servant in my house and he or she should try that, may the Lord help such a person! Yes, my parents will feed all of us but when it comes to family matters, if we have a servant, such a person has no say. Yes, God loves the servant because God is love, but there is no fruitful relationship”

Beloved, as I was meditating on this older son’s story, my eyes were immediately opened to the fact that the older son saw himself as a servant and not a son. If he had seen Himself as a son, they would have had a closer relationship and he would have known ‎that all the father had was his and that’s one of the things hindering many even today. We have this servant mentality and believe that is what’s going to earn us what’s already our inheritance… ALL THESE YEARS I’VE SLAVED FOR YOU… but his father said… ‘Look, DEAR SON, you have always stayed by me, and everything I have is yours…

The funny thing is that when the younger son asked his father for his share of his estate, his father divided his wealth between both sons (Luke 15:12) but the older son was ignorant of what was his.

Beloved, are you ignorant? How do you see yourself? …As many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name (John 1:12 KJV). As a believer, you are a son of God. You should be able to freely enter your Father’s room and take what’s yours. But please note that IDENTITY plus MATURITY matters…

02. March 2016 · Comments Off on WHAT IS STANDING IN YOUR WAY? · Categories: Jesus Christ, Relationship, Salvation

As Jesus was starting out on His way to Jerusalem, a man came running up to Him, knelt down, and asked, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” (Mark 10:17 NLT).

Beloved, I was telling a friend that there comes a time where when if you’re not seeing what’s written in the Bible manifest in your life, you have to put what people say to one side and go after the God of the Bible rather than the God of people’s experience and I believe this is what Job was trying to tell us when he told the Lord… Before I knew only what I had heard of You, but now I have seen You (Job 42:5 VOICE).

For Job to get to this place, he went through a process where he lost everything… family, business, house, everything and he never once thought of giving up on God. And we know that it was God that put him up for the challenge when He… said to satan, “have you considered My servant Job… a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?” (Job 1:8 NKJV)

To this satan responded… I won’t argue with You that he is pious, but is all of this believing in You and honoring You for no reason? Haven’t You encircled him with Your very own protection, and not only him but his entire household and all that he has? Not only this, but Your blessing accompanies whatever his hand touches, and see how his possessions have grown. It is easy to be so pious in the face of such prosperity. So now extend Your hand! Destroy all of these possessions of his, and he will certainly curse You, right to Your face (Job 1:9-11 VOICE).

Beloved, God knew Job’s heart so He agreed to the test, knowing that Job wasn’t holding on to anything that would make him reject Him and the end result was that Job was not only restored in double measure, he got to really experience the Lord. But what about the man in our feature text?

Here, we have another God chaser who wanted to know what to do to inherit eternal life. Jesus then went over the commandments but… “Teacher,” the man replied, “I’ve obeyed all these commandments since I was young.” Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him. “There is still one thing you haven’t done,” He told him. “Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.” At this the man’s face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions (Mark 10:20-22 NLT).

Beloved, there’s nothing like when the Lord looks at you and knows that you are totally sold out to Him and there would always come a time when He would test you to show you if there’s anything standing in your way. So, could there be anything that would cause your face to fall and make you walk away sadly? ‏‏

13. January 2016 · Comments Off on WHAT DOES A SACRIFICED, SURRENDERED LIFE LOOK LIKE‏? · Categories: Blessing, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Salvation, Seedtime and Harvest, Spiritual Growth, Worship

Then Isaac planted [seed] in that land [as a farmer] and reaped in the same year a hundred times [as much as he had planted], and the Lord blessed and favored him. And the man [Isaac] became great and gained more and more until he became very wealthy and extremely distinguished (Genesis 26:12-13 AMP)

Using yesterdays post as a backdrop for this, yes, Abraham is an example of someone that was able to carry out a total release but all Abraham had to go through was release what was in his hand and heart. However, like someone said recently, nobody knew what a sacrificed seed was like Isaac himself because he was the one that lay there on that altar and as a result, he became the embodiment of seed.

As I started to meditate on this, the parable of the sower and the seed came to mind. We are told that… those [in the last group] are the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil; and they hear the word [of God, the good news regarding the way of salvation] and accept it and bear fruit—thirty, sixty, and a hundred times as much [as was sown].” (Mark 4:20 AMP)

AS MUCH AS WAS SOWN… The seed that fell on good ground produced different levels of harvest as much as was sown so a hundredfold harvest suggest hundredfold seed (sacrifice). Thirtyfold and sixtyfold reapers probably sowed thirtyfold and sixtyfold seed (sacrifice)… They didn’t give all… I’m just saying…

We also see this in Isaac’s case above. He reaped as much as he had planted and we are told that ‎he reaped a hundredfold blessing. And please I’m not looking at this in monetary terms but just to use it as an example, if 10 pounds or dollars is all you had and you sowed it all, that’s a hundredfold sacrifice.
Could their different levels of harvest be directly proportionate to what they were willing to sacrifice, surrender, give up, ability to press in and keep moving on despite the challenges?

Going back to Abraham’s sacrifice, Isaac lay there on that altar, surrounding his life to be sacrificed. He wasn’t dead on the altar so we can say that he was a living sacrifice and the embodiment of hundredfold seed.

Beloved, for us, the New Testament gives us a picture of what this kind of sacrificed life looks like‏. Apostle says… Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [DEDICATING ALL OF YOURSELVES, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship (Romans 12:1 AMP).

DEDICATING ALL OF YOURSELVES… not thirty… not sixty…. but hundred percent of yourselves… that’s if you want to reap in the same year a hundred times [as much as you planted]… and I believe you know the areas the Lord is referring to. If not, why not ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what He’s asking you to surrender.

05. January 2016 · Comments Off on ‏‏WHAT IMPRESSION DO YOU GIVE ABOUT JESUS? · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Relationship, Restoration, Salvation

Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story—those He redeemed from the hand of the foe, those He gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south (Psalm 107:2 NIV).

I started reading the Gospels in the New Testament and these 4 Gospel – Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were written by or on behalf of 4 different people who encountered Jesus and wanted to give their side of the story depending on their encounter and on what was important to them (their own perspective). It’s like sending four different reporters to a scene. Depending on where their interests lies, you see them reporting different aspects of the story. That’s why different newspapers would have a different headline for the same story. One will report on this and leave out that while the other will report on that and leave out this.

I started to read the Gospel according to Matthew and my Bible translation introduces the book by saying “this is the story of Jesus the son of David. The Anointed One, as told by Mathew, a discipline of the Lord”. So, what does Matthew have to say?

Matthew first wants to establish that Jesus is from the lineage of David. He does this by recounting the genealogy of Jesus beginning with Abraham and what I like is that he starts to list very unlikely candidates but he doesn’t just stop there, he also includes their faults.

For example… Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah (and Perez and Zerah’s mother was Tamar) (Matthew 1:3 VOICE). Tamar was Judah’s widowed daughter-in-law; she dressed up like a prostitute and seduced her father-in-law, all so she could keep this very family line alive.

And then… Salmon was the father of Boaz (and Boaz’s mother was Rahab) (Matthew 1:5 VOICE). Rahab was a Canaanite prostitute who heroically hid Israelite spies from hostile authorities who wanted to kill them.

…And Jesse was the father of David, who was the king of the nation of Israel. David was the father of Solomon (his mother was Bathsheba, and she was married to a man named Uriah) (Matthew 1:6 VOICE)

Solomon’s mother was Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah, a soldier in David’s army. She was bathing in her courtyard one evening when David spied her and became interested in her. Later Bathsheba got pregnant during an adulterous liaison with David, so David had Uriah killed in battle and then married his widow.

Hmmm… David and Bathsheba’s story is the worse of them all but these people with very controversial stories were listened by Mathew to show how God is gracious to everyone regardless of their story.

Beloved, this was how Mathew chose to introduce Jesus to a dying world. The story of Jesus is a redemptive story. WHAT IMPRESSION DO YOU GIVE ABOUT JESUS when you tell your own version of His story?
