Then one of them, upon seeing that he was cured, turned back, recognizing and thanking and praising God with a loud voice; and he fell prostrate at Jesus’ feet, thanking Him [over and over]. And he was a Samaritan (Luke 17:15-16 AMP).
Beloved, the Bible says that… in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (1 Thessalonians 5:18 NKJV) and so, while you’re still waiting on the Lord for that big thing to happen, like this Samaritan in our feature text, have you… turned back, recognized, thanked and praised the Lord for what He’s done so far in your life even in this year or are you like the other 9 lepers that kept going? Jesus said, “Were not ten healed? Where are the nine? Can none be found to come back and give glory to God except this OUTSIDER?” (Luke 17:17-18 MSG)
This OUTSIDER… There’s this term called ‘barren familiarity’ where you become unfruitful because you’ve become too familiar with a thing that you no longer value it’s worth. As a result, it no longer produces anything for you and you no longer reap its benefits.
A typical example is the case of Jesus and the people He grew up with… Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary?… Are they not all with us?… But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.” NOW HE DID NOT DO MANY MIGHTY WORKS THERE BECAUSE OF THEIR UNBELIEF (Mathew 13.55-58 NKJV).
This is about taking one for granted and many of us take the Lord for granted because we’ve become so used to Him and what He does for us daily (Psalm 68:19) that’s why outsiders come in and get blessed faster than those of us that have been insiders for years.
Beloved, we need to cultivate the habit of being grateful for everything the Lord has done for us; both the little and big things. It is because of His mercies we are not consumed (Lamentations 3:22).
King David said… I bless God every chance I get my lungs expand with His praise… God met me more than halfway, He freed me from my anxious fears (Psalm 34:1, 4 MSG).
Beloved, Look back at the past few weeks, months or years. Is there anything you haven’t thanked God for or given Him the glory?
Praise the Lord, O my soul! Do not forget all his kind deeds! He is the one who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases, who delivers your life from the Pit, who crowns you with his loyal love and compassion, who satisfies your life with good things, so your youth is renewed like an eagle’s(Psalm 103: 2-5 NET).
Beloved, have you really not got anything to thank Him for? Thanksgiving is a key the Lord’s heart… Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and a thank offering and into His courts with praise! Be thankful and say so to Him, bless and affectionately praise His name! (Psalm 100:4 AMP) When the Lord sees how you appreciate everything He’s doing in your life, you are in… You’ve got access.
