Finally, Paul called the crew together and said, “Men, you should have listened to me in the first place and not left Crete. You would have avoided all this damage and loss. But take courage! None of you will lose your lives, even THOUGH THE SHIP WILL GO DOWN. For last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me, and He said, ‘DON’T BE AFRAID, PAUL, FOR YOU WILL SURELY STAND TRIAL BEFORE CAESAR! What’s more, God in His goodness has granted safety to everyone sailing with you.’ So, take courage! FOR I BELIEVE GOD. IT WILL BE JUST AS HE SAID (Acts 27:21-25 NLT).

Beloved, I remember listening to someone say they were flying from one destination to another when all of a sudden, there was heavy turbulence and they were so afraid that they were not going to make it. They tried reciting Psalms 23 but couldn’t get pass verse 4… Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear…

They couldn’t remember the rest of the verse but then, all of a sudden, they started remembering all the things the Lord said they would accomplish and how they hadn’t fulfilled them yet. Immediately, a sudden boldness came upon them and they started telling people to relax; “as far as I’m on this plane, nothing is going to happen and soon enough, everywhere was calm”.

Beloved, listening to them gave me a confident boost; not in myself but in the Lord that has spared my life so many times and every now and again, I’ve got to remind myself of my testimony.

In our feature text, Apostle Paul found himself in a sea storm and while everybody panicked, he received confirmation from the Lord that everything was going to be okay and he believed God.

The NIV translation says… FOR I HAVE FAITH IN GOD… In order words, God said it; I believe it and that settles it.

Beloved, that’s how to turn fear into faith. However, let’s not forget the small print… ‘THOUGH THE SHIP WILL GO DOWN’ and I like how someone said God made a promise to you not the ship so, stop holding on to material things or crying over relationships you’ve lost along the way. If God wanted them to arrive with you, nothing would have stopped them.

Beloved, please understand that the journey isn’t always smooth. Jesus said to His disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” They experienced a huge storm on the way which He didn’t tell them about and so they panicked… “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” Jesus calmed the wind (Mark 4:35-40) and I like that… they arrived at the other side of the lake (Mark 5:1)

In response, Jesus asked His disciples… Do you still have no faith?

Beloved, Faith cancels fear and Faith comes by hearing so you need to go over and over His promises and anytime that storm arises, tell it…the Lord says I’ve got things to accomplish ahead of me. As you do so, with Jesus Christ on board, be sure you WILL DEFINITELY ARRIVE AT YOUR DESTINATION.

For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people with a plague that would have wiped you off the earth. BUT I HAVE RAISED YOU UP FOR THIS VERY PURPOSE, THAT I MIGHT SHOW YOU MY POWER AND THAT MY NAME MIGHT BE PROCLAIMED IN ALL THE EARTH (Exodus 9:15-16 NIV).

Beloved, our feature text recounts what the Lord said to Pharaoh who thought he had the upper hand when he oppressed the children of God. I read it and thought to myself; so, who is that enemy that thinks they are in control of your life and situation?

Unfortunately, we tend to give too much attention to the enemy but the truth is that he has already been defeated… [God] disarmed the principalities and powers that were ranged against us and made a bold display and public example of them, in triumphing over them in Him and in it [the cross] (Colossians 2:15 AMP).

We need a reality check! Who is in control here? Well, that would depend on whether you are giving the enemy access into your life. If so, you definitely need a reality check! But here’s what the Lord is saying… “Behold, I have created the blacksmith who blows the coals in the fire, who brings forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the spoiler to destroy. No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me,” says the Lord (Isaiah 54:16-17 NKJV). The New Living Translation says… their vindication will come from Me. I, THE LORD, HAVE SPOKEN!

I, THE LORD, HAVE SPOKEN!…

Beloved, today, the Lord is saying… “FOCUS ON ME AND WHAT I HAVE ASKED YOU TO DO. I WILL TAKE CARE OF YOUR ENEMIES”. You need to grab hold of this word because you need to focus all your energy on positive things.

While the Lord pursues our enemies out of town, here’s what we ought to be doing… pursue righteousness (right standing with God and true goodness), godliness (which is the loving fear of God and being Christlike), faith, love, steadfastness (patience), and gentleness of heart (1 Timothy 6:11 AMP).

Beloved, DO EVERYTHING THE LORD HAS ASKED YOU TO DO AND WATCH HIM TAKE CARE OF YOUR ENEMIES. HE IS THE ONE IN CONTROL NOT THE ENEMY.

David and his men immediately set out for Jerusalem to take on the Jebusites, who lived in that country. But they said, “You might as well go home! Even the blind and the lame could keep you out. You can’t get in here!” THEY HAD CONVINCED THEMSELVES THAT DAVID COULDN’T BREAK THROUGH. BUT DAVID WENT RIGHT AHEAD and captured the fortress of Zion, known ever since as the City of David (2 Samuel 5:6-7 MSG).

Beloved, you probably know by now that the enemy has vowed to do all he can to prevent you from being who God has called you to be so he would use all sorts of tactics to stop you. However, it will not work as far as you press on in Christ. In our feature text, we read about David who matched on and took what was his despite the intimidation from his enemies. The New King James Version says… NEVERTHELESS DAVID TOOK THE STRONGHOLD OF ZION… but the question is; what did he have to get rid of? It was … the lame and the blind, who are hated by David’s soul (2 Samuel 5:8 NKJV).

Beloved, Jerusalem became the centre of Israel’s spiritual life and David had to get rid of the lame and blind standing in his way. So, for you today, is there anything that has spiritually blinded or paralysed you that you need to overcome? Satan builds MENTAL STRONGHOLDS which like I have shared before is defined as a mind-set impregnated with hopelessness that causes us to accept as unchangeable, situations that we know are contrary to the will of God. For example, because of reoccurring situations, past experiences, family background etc, we develop mind-sets that make us think… I’m hopeless, I’m cursed, I’m a failure… This presents a false view of God’s reality for your life.

Our feature text says… Even the blind and the lame could keep you out…

Beloved, if your mind is clouded by satan’s smoke screen, it will prevent you from seeing things the way God desires you to see them and it could keep you from your breakthrough. So, you must pull those strongholds down and you know that… we use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:4-5 NLT).

Beloved, you are to use the truth in God’s word as a weapon to drive out these strongholds. You are not a failure, God always leads us into triumph (2 Corinthians 2:14). You are not hopeless… Christ in you is the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27). And you are not cursed because Christ redeemed you from the curse of the Law (Galatians 3:13-14). Demolishing strongholds is the greatest breakthrough you can ever have. So, as you decide to be strengthened by God’s truth, I pray that you take hold of everything the Lord has for you.

“Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” (Psalm 110:1 NKJV)

Beloved, the Bible tells us of Pharaoh who devised a plan to hinder the Israelites growth for fear that they may join their enemies to fight against them and then escape. He decreed that all male children born to the Israelites be killed and when that didn’t work, he ordered that they should be thrown into the Nile River. But that mandate could not stop the man that God sent as their deliverer. Moses’ mother left him to float in the reeds at the edge of the Nile but he was rescued by Pharaoh’s daughter who asked the boy’s mother to be his paid nurse. And then… later, when the boy was older, his mother BROUGHT HIM BACK TO PHARAOH’S DAUGHTER, WHO ADOPTED HIM AS HER OWN SON… Many years later, WHEN MOSES HAD GROWN UP, he went out to visit his own people, the Hebrews, and he saw how hard they were forced to work… (Exodus 2:10-11 NLT).

Can you imagine that? Until the time Moses was old enough to embark on the task that God created him for, he grew in the household of the enemy. They fed him daily and sent him to the best of schools. He was educated in all the wisdom and culture of the Egyptians (Acts 7:22 AMP). Who knows, perhaps he may have had long talks with Pharaoh’s daughter (and maybe even Pharaoh) about things pertaining to life – those things formal education cannot teach you.

So, how does this apply to us? Every single plot of the enemy designed against us is training and equipping us for purpose. I’ve heard of people that lost their jobs because of the plans devised by their enemies only to end up opening their own businesses using the things they learned from their work experience. Most people only discovered their gifting’s through the battles they have fought and won in Christ. Many have written bestseller books based on what they experienced in life. So, most people only discover their purpose through life’s battles.

Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers and then landed in jail because he was lied on by Potiphar’s wife but God used those experiences to train and elevate him. His enemies were His footstool. He also learnt valuable virtues like forgiveness which released him to move on from the past.

As for Jesus… ‘None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory’ (1 Corinthians 2:8 NIV). Everything planned against Jesus was designed to fulfil the Master plan.

So beloved, appreciate your footstool. Please don’t let pain or bitterness cause you to overlook the valuable lessons you are learning and the promotion awaiting you. Always remember that… God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them (Romans 8:28 (NLT).

“But suddenly, your ruthless enemies will be crushed like the finest of dust. Your many attackers will be driven away like chaff before the wind. SUDDENLY, IN AN INSTANT, I, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, will act for you with thunder and earthquake and great noise, with whirlwind and storm and consuming fire. All the nations fighting against Jerusalem will vanish like a dream! Those who are attacking her walls will vanish like a vision in the night (Isaiah 29:5-7 NLT).

Beloved, when the enemy attacks, we often think God is slow to come to our aid but even before you cry out, He has already seen and heard your cries and would often say ‘be still and know that I am God’. God said to Moses… “I’ve taken A GOOD, LONG LOOK at the affliction of my people in Egypt. I’ve heard their cries for deliverance from their slave masters; I know all about their pain. And now I have come down to help them, pry them loose from the grip of Egypt… (Exodus 3:7-8 MSG)

With God, a GOOD, LONG LOOK often feels like it is a very, very, very LONG LOOK; one that may take many years in human eyes but God is also a ‘SUDDENLY, IN AN INSTANT’ God. After the Lord spoke to Moses, it took some time before they could see any kind of deliverance. In fact, their situation became worse and when God eventually moved on their behalf, it was quite scary. As they left Egypt, their enemies came after them in full force and it seemed there was no way of escape for them… but Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. THE EGYPTIANS YOU SEE TODAY WILL NEVER BE SEEN AGAIN (Exodus 14:13 NLT).

Beloved, we know the story. That same day, they watched as the enemies that had tormented them for many, many years drown in the red sea. As a kid, every Christmas we watched this classic movie on Moses, the Israelites, and the red sea and it was quite a scene and it helped to visualise that moment when it all happened. Now, picture those moments and then meditate on Isaiah 29:5-7. God is the same God yesterday, today and forever. Don’t you think He can do the same on your behalf? What battle are you fighting that Jesus hasn’t already won?

The Bible says… When the Lord brought back His exiles to Jerusalem, it was like a dream! We were filled with laughter, and we sang for joy. And the other nations said, “What amazing things the Lord has done for them.” (Psalm 126:1-2 NLT). They couldn’t believe it and it is my prayer that you will also experience such laughter and joy SUDDENLY.

A mob quickly formed against Paul and Silas, and the city officials ordered them stripped and beaten with wooden rods. They were severely beaten, and then they were thrown into prison. The jailer was ordered to make sure they didn’t escape. So the jailer put them into the inner dungeon and clamped their feet in the stocks. AROUND MIDNIGHT PAUL AND SILAS WERE PRAYING AND SINGING HYMNS TO GOD, and the other prisoners were listening. Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off!‎ (Acts 16:22- 26 NLT)

Beloved, our feature text is a popular text that shows us the power of praise that shook the very foundation of the prison. The Bible says God inhabits the praise of His people… But You are holy, O You Who dwell in [the holy place where] the praises of Israel [are offered] (Psalm 22:3 AMPC). I love how the Message translation says it… leaning back on the cushions of Israel’s praise…

Praise invites the Lord into your room to come and chill with you. So, can you imagine the Lord entering that prison cell and leaning back on the cushions of Paul and Silas praise? The cell cannot contain Him. His presence in the room would shake and break everything apart including all the so-called chains‎.

Beloved, praise is a powerful tool‎ that confuses the enemy and no matter what is tied down in chains around you, you can still praise your way through as far as your lips remain unchained.

‎The famous gospel artist, Marvin Sapp released a song titled “Praise Him In Advance” with lyrics that says… I’ve had my share of ups and downs, times when there was no one around, God came and spoke these words to me, PRAISE WILL CONFUSE THE ENEMY… I started singing, I started clapping, I started dancing, people were laughing, they knew my problems, they knew my pain, but I knew God would take them away. That’s why I praise Him with my hands, that’s why I praise Him with a dance, He’s given me a second chance, come on lets praise Him in advance”.

Beloved, are you praising Him in advance or has the enemy succeeded ‎in muting your voice? We are to… offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to His name (Hebrews 13:15 NLT). Your praise may be a sacrifice right now in the sense that you may be giving it from a place of great pain, but keep at it and before you know it, you would be singing a praise of thanksgiving‎.

Remember, when praises go up, blessings come down. It’s time to praise your way through and praise your way out of the remaining days of July.

After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the Lord and praising Him for His holy splendor. This is what they sang: “Give thanks to the Lord; His faithful love endures forever!” At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the Lord caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves. The armies of Moab and Ammon turned against their allies from Mount Seir and killed every one of them. After they had destroyed the army of Seir, they began attacking each other. So when the army of Judah arrived at the lookout point in the wilderness, all they saw were dead bodies lying on the ground as far as they could see. Not a single one of the enemy had escaped (2 chronicles 20:21-24 NLT)

Beloved, I remember a few years ago when I was a real cry baby, a prophet walked up to me and said; “Do you know what the Lord has equipped you with?” He went on to say that “the Lord has equipped you so that your greatest tool against the enemy is your praise and as you keep praising God, you would see Him fighting your enemies for you”.

Wow, no wonder the enemy would try to do everything to silence your praise but we ought to let Him know He won’t succeed.

Yesterday morning, as I was reading our feature text, I felt the Holy Spirit impress in me the need to spend the next few days just praising the Lord and as I was praying with my prayer partner later on, I told her to open her Bible to 2 chronicles 20. However, before I could say another word, she shouted and said she was reading that same chapter yesterday morning and she also felt the Holy Spirit saying the same thing to her.

Beloved, the Bible says… “By the mouth of two or three witnesses every word shall be established.” (2 Corinthians 13:1 NKJV). This is the season to praise hard because you are embarking on serious warfare. It doesn’t matter what situation you find yourself, you must activate your praise. Off course, there are times when the devil would try fighting you so you can’t even open your mouth but the prophet went on to say that “even in the middle of the night, when you find yourself crying and can’t find the words to pray, just worship God as you cry‎ and watch what He does”.

What was the result of the people’s praise? Not a single one of their enemy escaped and then… King Jehoshaphat and his men went out to gather the plunder. They found vast amounts of equipment, clothing, and other valuables—more than they could carry. There was so much plunder that it took them three days just to collect it all! ON THE FOURTH DAY they gathered in the Valley of Blessing, which got its name that day because the people praised and thanked the Lord there. It is still called the Valley of Blessing today (2 Chronicles 20:25-26 NLT).

Beloved, when praises go up, blessings come down. It’s time to Praise your way through the remaining days of July.

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God…” (Matthew 4:1-3 NKJV)

Beloved, everybody goes through trials. But then there are periods when they come all at once; one trial after another. You are barely out of one before another one hits you. You feel like you are in a boxing match; blows coming from everywhere. You fall down and just as you are trying to pick yourself up, another one hits you from nowhere. At such times, no matter how much you know about the word of God, you can’t make sense of anything. You’ve prayed and prayed and no relief. It’s at such times that you question the very core of who you are but don’t faint until you hear from Jesus.

When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “THIS IS MY BELOVED SON, IN WHOM I AM WELL PLEASED.” (Matthew 3:16-17 NKJV)

Beloved, ….THIS IS MY BELOVED SON, IN WHOM I AM WELL PLEASED… is validation and endorsement from God. God put His STAMP OF APPROVAL on Jesus. But then what happens next? Satan came with the “If You are the Son of God” questions…

Unfortunately, many of us have been through the kind of trials that have made us question our identity. The kind that would make you say; “maybe I’m not really saved; maybe God doesn’t love me; maybe it’s payback for my past; maybe… maybe… maybe…”

But that’s the devil speaking. He confronted Jesus with… ‘If You are the Son of God…’ several times and every time Jesus answered and said, “IT IS WRITTEN”…

That’s why we need to know what is written. That shuts the devil up. Seeing that Jesus knew His identity and authority as the beloved Son of God and couldn’t be tempted in that area, He then tried to buy Jesus over. This time not with the ‘If you are the Son of God’ tactic but more like; “OK, we both know that You know who You are but let’s negotiate. Let me buy you over. However, Jesus… said to him, “AWAY WITH YOU, Satan! FOR IT IS WRITTEN, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’” (Matthew 4:10 NKJV).

Beloved, Jesus passed the test because He was able to put satan in his rightful position… “AWAY WITH YOU, Satan”.

There are so many tests we will face as beloved children of God but for every test, you should be able to say… AWAY WITH YOU, Satan! I know who I am… FOR IT IS WRITTEN… However, the question is; do you know who you really are? Please know today that you are the beloved, son/daughter of the Most High God. Don’t ever allow the enemy steal your identity.

Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite. “Has the Lord spoken only through Moses?” they asked. “Hasn’t he also spoken through us?” And the Lord heard this. (Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.) At once the Lord said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, “Come out to the tent of meeting, all three of you.” So the three of them went out (Numbers 12:1-4).

Beloved, we sometimes think it is by power or by our might that we win some battles but in our feature text, despite Moses’ position and all his wonderful achievements, it was his humility that spoke for him. Miriam and Aaron took it upon themselves to hate on Moses but in his absence, his humility spoke… And the LORD said to them, “Now listen to what I say: “If there were prophets among you, I, the LORD, would reveal myself in visions. I would speak to them in dreams. But not with my servant Moses. Of my entire house, he is the one I trust. I speak to him face to face, clearly, and not in riddles! He sees the LORD as He is. So why were you not afraid to criticize my servant Moses?” The Lord was very angry with them, and He departed. As the cloud moved from above the Tabernacle, there stood Miriam, her skin as white as snow from leprosy… (Numbers 12:6-10 NLT)

“How dare you talk about my boy like that” was what the Lord was basically saying here.

Beloved, do you know that Mariam was Moses’ sister and Aaron his assistant pastor?

Being the person that Moses was, he even tried to plead Mariam’s case but the Lord must have said NO WAY… there are people I don’t joke with. The Lord said… keep her outside the camp for seven days, and after that she may be accepted back.” So Miriam was kept outside the camp for seven days… (Numbers 12:14-15 NLT)

Beloved, Miriam was publicly humiliated. Unfortunately, the thing you said in secret is now in the open. Everyone passing by would want to know what you did to warrant such embarrassment. Imagine people walking by and when they ask… What did you do Miriam? What do you think she would say?

Beloved, Humility is a great weapon to fight against your enemies. When you are humble, God will speak on your behalf. Why not let the Lord do the speaking and fighting for you?

Remember, the Bible says… You rescue the humble, but Your eyes watch the proud and humiliate them (2 Samuel 22:28 NLT).

I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice which I had heard addressing me… said, COME UP HERE, AND I WILL SHOW YOU WHAT MUST TAKE PLACE IN THE FUTURE. At once I came under the [Holy] Spirit’s power… (Revelation 4:1-2 AMPC).

Beloved, I recently heard someone says that it was only when they started flying that they saw that all the buildings that looked so massive from the ground level became very tiny from above and the size decreased as they went higher till they could hardly see anything.

So true and probably why John who wrote the Book of Revelation was shown great revelations about things to come from above. He said… INSTANTLY I WAS IN THE SPIRIT (NLT)… I WAS CAUGHT UP AT ONCE IN DEEP WORSHIP (MSG) and his eyes were indeed open to the kind of worship that takes place in heaven. In fact, the whole of Revelation 4 is dedicated to describing it but then the next chapter records John crying over NOTHING. John said… I began to weep bitterly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll and read it. But one of the twenty-four elders said to me, “Stop weeping! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the heir to David’s throne, HAS WON THE VICTORY. He is worthy to open the scroll and its seven seals.” (Revelation 5:4-5 NLT).

“Really? Oh Okay”. I’m sure he must have asked himself… “why am I crying then? Everyone here is busy worshiping God and I am here crying over nothing”. The Amplified translation says Jesus has… OVERCOME AND CONQUERED…

Isn’t this what Jesus was trying to tell John and his other disciples when He said… I have told you all this so that you may have peace in Me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD.” (John 16:33 NLT)

Beloved, for John to get a revelation like this, he was not walking in the flesh but in the spirit. The flesh will tell you all the things that are wrong now but working in a spiritual dimension gives you insight into what the Lord is doing and the unstoppable victory that’s ahead regardless of your situation. WHILE JEREMIAH WAS STILL CONFINED in the courtyard of the guard, the Lord gave him this second message: “This is what the Lord says—the Lord who made the earth, who formed and established it, whose name is the Lord: Ask me and I WILL TELL YOU REMARKABLE SECRETS YOU DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THINGS TO COME (Jeremiah 33:1-3 NLT).

Beloved, the Lord wants you to come higher because those things that have blinded your vision looks tiny from above. You need to engage yourself in true worship; allowing the Holy Spirit to guide your life. You need to focus on developing your spiritual man so you are not tossed about by things going on around you.

Remember, things look so tiny from above.
