Now you have every spiritual gift you need as you eagerly wait for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ… I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose (1 Corinthians 1:7, 10 NLT).

Beloved, when I first started to meditate on 1 Corinthians 1, the first thought that came to mind was “The Struggles of a gifted house” and ‘house’ here isn’t just limited to a church or ministry but even one’s household or every environment that is heavily stocked with gifted people. Unfortunately, in such environments, you often find competition where one wants to outdo the other and the focus is then on the gift. Such was the case with the Corinthian Church which was a very gifted house but unfortunately, this is what causes division in the Church.

Apostle Paul who was addressing this condition in the church went on to say… some members of Chloe’s household have told me about your quarrels, my dear brothers and sisters. Some of you are saying, “I am a follower of Paul.” Others are saying, “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Peter,” or “I follow only Christ.” Has Christ been divided into factions?… (1 Corinthians 1:11-13 NLT)

What happened was that Apostle Paul taught the gospel in Corinth for a while but then, he left Apollos to preach and teach in his absence. However, when he was away, he began to receive disturbing reports of the discord taking place in the church in Corinth.

Apparently, Apollos was a very eloquent speaker; a gift he used to preach the gospel (Acts 18:24) and so, you can imagine that people began to take sides. However, Apostle Paul felt this was worldly and a sure sign of immaturity. He said… when I was with you I couldn’t talk to you as I would to spiritual people. I had to talk as though you belonged to this world or as though you were infants in Christ… for you are still controlled by your sinful nature. You are jealous of one another and quarrel with each other… Aren’t you living like people of the world? When one of you says, “I am a follower of Paul,” and another says, “I follow Apollos,”… After all, who is Apollos? Who is Paul? We are only God’s servants… I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it… It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. WHAT’S IMPORTANT IS THAT GOD MAKES THE SEED GROW. THE ONE WHO PLANTS AND THE ONE WHO WATERS WORK TOGETHER WITH THE SAME PURPOSE… (1 Corinthians 3:1-8 NLT).

Beloved, Apostle Paul said comparing ourselves with each other is not wise (2 Corinthians 10:12). It is immature and it causes division in the body of Christ and it’s a condition of the heart we must address. After all, are we not ONE BODY but with many parts put together to fulfil the Lord’s purpose (1 Corinthians 12:12-26)?

SELAH!

“Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. AND I WAS AFRAID, AND WENT AND HID YOUR TALENT IN THE GROUND. Look, there you have what is yours’ (Matthew 25:24-25 NKJV).

Beloved, I think of this story and so many things come to mind. Was this servant just playing safe or was he suffering from insecurity? Was he held back by fear? What’s your own excuse for hiding what you’ve been given? We all have our excuses for not utilizing whatever the Lord has given to us and we think our excuses are valid but apparently, this was something the master did not take likely at all… “But the master replied, ‘YOU WICKED AND LAZY SERVANT! If you knew I harvested crops I didn’t plant and gathered crops I didn’t cultivate, WHY DIDN’T YOU DEPOSIT MY MONEY IN THE BANK? At least I could have gotten some interest on it’ (Matthew 25:26-27 NLT).

He called him WICKED AND LAZY… If it was fear that paralysed you, why did you not deposit what the Lord had given to you into someone else?

Beloved, this just makes me wonder whether this is one area of disobedience that people take likely but in actual fact the Lord is seriously frowning at. The master said… Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents. ‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away (Matthew 25:28-29 NKJV).

Beloved, he went from one to zero because the Lord does not like unfruitfulness. You may think it’s unfair but I am also reminded of when Jesus cursed the Fig Tree… The next morning as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. He noticed a fig tree in full leaf a little way off, so he went over to see if he could find any figs. But there were only leaves because it was too early in the season for fruit. Then Jesus said to the tree, “May no one ever eat your fruit again!”… (Mark 11:12-14 NLT).

Hmmm… But it’s not the right season? Well, so why are you deceiving people with your full display of leaves? And then, Paul told Timothy… be ready in season and out of season (2 Timothy 4:2).

Beloved, what are you doing with what the Lord has placed inside of you? Fear should not stop you. Paul told Timothy… This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:6-7 NLT).

Are you going to be WICKED AND LAZY? Doesn’t sound nice at all. Does it?

God bless you in Jesus Christ name

‎There are different kinds of gifts, but they are all from the same Spirit. There are different ways to serve [ministries] but the same Lord to serve. And there are different ways that God works through people [kinds of action; activities] but the same God works in all of us in everything we do [all things in all people] (1 Corinthians 12:4-6 EXB).

A couple of Sundays ago, the person that was to lead intercessory prayer in my church couldn’t make it to church so someone else was called to fill the gap. However, though an intercessor, she didn’t find it funny at all being called out without prior warning and refused to accept any compliments afterwards. She felt she were awful. “Just stop it”, she said. But then I told her that it was because she was comparing herself to the mummy of the house who brings down fire when she prays. As a result, everyone else believes they can’t pray. Perhaps that’s the reason the first person bailed on us. LOL

Many of us shy away from functioning in our gifts and callings just because we tend to compare ourselves to others, forgetting that everyone is unique and have been equipped differently.

I remember listening to a preacher say he once noticed that when a particular preacher came to his church, everyone’s screaming and jumping up and down but when he is preaching everyone’s crying. So one day he decided to use the technique of the other preacher which included swinging the microphone in circles as he preached. However, he said the microphone mistakenly hit his lips so hard that he started bleeding. That’s when he gave up… “Sorry guys, I’ll rather be me”. LOL

The Lord won’t anoint the fake you so why do you want to be like somebody else? Why copy their technique? Do you think the Lord cannot use you the way you are? The Lord told Joshua… I will be with you as I was with Moses… (Joshua 1:5 NLT). Same God, two different people with different callings. They were given different strategies but both still split the sea.

The Spirit gives one person the ability to speak with wisdom [message/word of wisdom], and the same Spirit gives another the ability to speak with knowledge [message/word of knowledge]. The same Spirit gives faith to one person. And, to another, that one Spirit gives gifts of healing. The Spirit gives to another person the power to do miracles [works of power], to another the ability to prophesy [prophecy]. And He gives to another the ability to know the difference between good and evil [discernment/distinguishing of] spirits. The Spirit gives one person the ability to speak in different kinds of languages [or ecstatic utterance; tongues] and to another the ability to interpret those languages [interpretation of tongues]. One Spirit, the same Spirit, does all these things, and the Spirit decides what to give [distributes just as He wishes to] each person (1 Corinthians 12:8-11 EXB).

God bless you

Yesterday, I wrote that you should not ALLOW PEOPLE PUSH YOUR BUTTONS but then someone sent this to me which I felt was appropriate to share. I just hope I’m not violating any copyright laws…

A man had one very beautiful daughter. When the daughter was ready for marriage, the father sent news around town that all the eligible young men should come to compete in a test which would determine who was fit to marry his daughter. On that day, all was set; all the able-bodied young men came out. Some came with pen and paper and others with cutlasses and swords.

The rich man took them to his swimming pool and addressed the men: “Any of you who can swim from one end of this swimming pool to the other would marry my daughter. In addition, I‘ll give him 15million dollars, a car and a house so they can start life well. I shall be waiting to meet my son-in-law at the other end. Good luck!”

As the young men, all very excited at the prospect of winning, started taking off their shirts, a helicopter came over the pool and dropped alligators and crocodiles into the pool. Immediately, all the men turned back and started wearing their shirts again. Disappointed, some of them said, “That’s crazy! Let’s see who would marry that girl! No one will’.

All of a sudden, they heard a splash in the pool. Everybody watched in amazement as one gentleman waddled across, expertly avoiding the alligators and crocodiles. Finally, he made it to the other side. The rich man could not believe it. He asked the young man to name anything he wanted but the man was still panting uncontrollably. However, when he got back his senses, he said, “SHOW ME THE PERSON WHO PUSHED ME INSIDE THIS POOL!” LOL

So what’s this story trying to tell us?

Firstly, you don’t know what you are capable of doing until you are PUSHED! Secondly, those seeking to push you into the jaws of alligators and crocodiles may have helped you to reach your promised land!!!

This was what happened to Joseph. Because of his dream, his brothers wanted him dead so… they conspired against him to kill him… They said to one another, “Look, this dreamer is coming! Come therefore, let us now kill him and cast him into some pit; and we shall say, ‘Some wild beast has devoured him.’ WE SHALL SEE WHAT WILL BECOME OF HIS DREAMS!” (Genesis 37:18-20 NKJV)

Well, they failed to see that their conspiracy was the push Joseph needed towards his dreams.

The story I received went on to say… Sometimes it takes going through the bad moments to bring out the BEST in us. Trials are raw materials for Triumphant Testimonies.

Hmmm… Some people need to be pushed before realizing their potentials and reaching their goals in life. May you receive the right kind of push that shows you what you are capable of doing?

God bless you

22. October 2014 · Comments Off on ARE YOU LOCKED BEHIND CLOSED DOORS? · Categories: Action, Fear, Freedom, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Peace, Talents

Then on that same first day of the week, when it was evening, though the disciples were BEHIND CLOSED DOORS for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, Peace to you! (John 20:19 AMP)

Hearing the phrase ‘LOCKED BEHIND CLOSED DOORS’, we can immediately visualise a physical door locked with a key. No one can come in or go out unless you open the door and let them through. However, do you know there are many people locked behind an invisible closed doors locked with a key called fear? They’ve refused to let people in and they certainly are scared to come out.

Fear is a very strong negative weapon used by the enemy and if given room can cripple one. It is caused by the belief that something bad is going to happen or someone’s likely to cause you pain or harm. Many fear failure and so don’t want to try anything.

You’ll find fear rearing its ugly head when Jesus talks about the Parable of the Talents. The servant that did nothing with his talent said… I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground…(Matthew 25:25 AMP). Many like this servant have gifts and talents placed inside of them but fear of failure has made them bury their talents and they are LOCKED BEHIND A CLOSED DOOR.

Others are just afraid because they have seen bad things happen to people close to them so they feel the same would happen to them. After Jesus was crucified, His disciples feared that the same thing would happen to them so they locked themselves behind closed doors but I love that Jesus would always locate you in the place of your hiding. Please know that Jesus will never leave you so get rid of the fear and come out of that closed door.

It’s not only people locked up in prison that are behind bars but there is a level you would walk with Jesus that you become confident that nothing can hold you back. Peter was physical locked up in prison but he wasn’t spiritually or mentally locked up. He had the key of peace and so when bound with two chains and placed between two soldiers, he slept peacefully until an angel of the Lord came to his rescue and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists (Acts 12:6-7)

Has fear got you LOCKED BEHIND CLOSED DOORS? Think of what it’s preventing you from doing and know that God has not given you that spirit of fear… For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7 AMP).

God bless you

I’ve found that after experiencing the downside of life, it’s hard to sometimes make sense of your experience. However, experience has taught me that rather than remain the victim, if only you pay attention to what God is up to, you would be surprised at how much He has equipped you. Somehow through adversity, God takes what the enemy plans for evil and uses it to equip us with great and mighty tools which unfortunately we tend not to notice because we are busy crying out “why me?”

Moses protested when God told him what He wanted him to accomplish. I can’t do that! There’s no way I’m equipped to do that but “then the Lord asked him, “What is that in your hand?” “A shepherd’s staff,” Moses replied. “Throw it down on the ground,” the Lord told him. So Moses threw down the staff, and it turned into a snake! Moses jumped back” (Exodus 4:2-3 (NLT).

Wow! I had no idea my staff could do that! But do you know God did not just put that staff in Moses hands at that moment. Moses already had it in his hands when God called Him. It represents all his 40 years’ experience in the wilderness with all the training that came with it.

Recently, I’ve found myself having to ask the Lord to show me what He has equipped me with because honestly, the path I’m treading on is quite overwhelming. However, ‎when I think of it, it’s funny that I’m yet to see a case where someone comes to me about an issue that I’ve not been through myself in some sort of way. I’ve noticed that I tend to find myself saying I know what you’re talking about… I’ve been there before. Hence, I’m able to give advice from experience; with the help of the Holy Spirit of course.

It’s at times like this that you look back and say Lord thank You. I had no idea I could do that. I had no idea I could talk about that. I had no idea I could write about that.

It has not always being like that though because when the enemy tries to steal from you, he tends to make you feel like you’ve nothing left. But like the story of the poor widow who thought she only had very little oil (2 Kings 4:1-7), it’s only when you start pouring out the oil into vessels that you realise how much God has been filling you up and as far as there are many empty vessels around to pour into, the oil will never run dry.

Do you really know what you’ve been equipped with? Why not ask the Lord to open the eyes of your understanding so that you become enlightened and as you do so, I pray… that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe Him… (Ephesians 1:19 NLT)

God bless you

22. May 2014 · Comments Off on ARE YOU GIFTED BUT FRUITLESS? · Categories: Fruit of the Spirit, Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ, Joy, Patience, Peace, Self Control, Spiritual Growth, Talents

I’m inspired to write on this topic because based on what I wrote yesterday, someone said they learnt something new about spiritual maturity.

The gifts of the Spirit or the fruits of the Spirit… Which do you think is more important to God? Literally speaking, a gift is something free given to someone…

A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have (1 Corinthians 12:7-11 NLT).

While Apostle Paul says… you should earnestly desire the most helpful gifts. [He also says]… but now let me show you a way of life that is best of all (1 Corinthians 12:31 NLT).

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is PATIENT, love is KIND. It DOES NOT ENVY, it DOES NOT BOAST, it is not PROUD. It DOES NOT DISHONOR OTHERS, it is NOT SELF-SEEKING, it is NOT EASILY ANGERED, it KEEPS NO RECORD OF WRONGS. Love DOES NOT DELIGHT IN EVIL but rejoices with the truth. It always PROTECTS, ALWAYS TRUSTS, ALWAYS HOPES, ALWAYS PERSEVERES (1 Corinthians 13:1-7 NIV).

Love is a fruit of the Spirit but unlike a gift which is freely given, a fruit is produced from within… the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [THE WORK WHICH HIS PRESENCE WITHIN ACCOMPLISHES] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness, Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence)… (Galatians 5:22-23 AMP).

What am I trying to say? The fact that you are heavily gifted doesn’t mean you are spiritually mature. If truly your life is not governed by love, joy, peace, patience, an even temper etc., you’ve got some growing up to do. You have the Holy Spirit right? Why are you slowing down THE WORK WHICH HIS PRESENCE WITHIN ACCOMPLISHES?

God bless you

10. March 2014 · Comments Off on SOMEONE KEEPS GETTING AHEAD OF ME · Categories: Action, God's Plan, Help, Rejection, Talents

I was telling someone that nothing can be more frustrating as finding yourself trapped in a system where you are doing your best to get ahead but every single time, just when you think it’s your turn, from nowhere, someone comes and gets ahead of you and as a result, you’ve got to go back to the queue and you are left thinking when would it be my turn?

Such was the case of the man paralysed for 38 years at the Pool of Bethesda…. When Jesus saw him and knew he had been ill for a long time, he asked him, “Would you like to get well?” “I can’t, sir,” the sick man said, “for I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up. SOMEONE ELSE ALWAYS GETS THERE AHEAD OF ME.” (John 5:6-7 NLT)

Most times when Jesus addresses a condition in the Bible… say blindness, lameness or paralysis… He is addressing a spiritual condition and not necessarily a physical one… Jesus told him, “STAND UP, PICK UP YOUR MAT, AND WALK!” Instantly, the man was healed! He rolled up his sleeping mat and began walking!… (John 5:8-9 NLT).

Jesus told him get up take everything that has been lying dormant in this place for years and walk out by yourself. Stop waiting on people. This man must have been amazed at how he was able to walk on his own. Really? I didn’t know I could do that… Yes you can. Everyone here wants to walk so would only do what benefits them and not you so if you’re waiting for someone to give you that opportunity to walk, you would be lying here a long time… maybe another 38 years.

Like I said, you can tell that this man’s condition was a spiritual condition because we are told… this miracle happened on the Sabbath so the Jewish leaders objected. They said to the man who was cured, “You can’t work on the Sabbath! The law doesn’t allow you to carry that sleeping mat!” (John 5:9-10 NLT). No No No… how can you do that? Don’t you know it’s against our religious protocol?

Hmmm… You may find yourself in such a position. It could be spiritual and it could also be physical. Each year, you keep thinking that it’s your time to get promoted but before you know it, they’ve brought in someone from outside. Whatever your case maybe… like they say, God’s time is the best. When the Lord shows up in your situation, no one can stop you. Perhaps you are reading this today because it’s time to act. Start to stir up those gifts inside of you that have laid dormant for years. You may need to go back to school to enhance your skills or something but whatever it is, remember that the year is flying by… STAND UP, PICK UP YOUR MAT, AND WALK…

God bless you

08. March 2014 · Comments Off on FULL OF LEAVES BUT NO FRUIT · Categories: Action, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Talents

The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. SEEING IN THE DISTANCE a fig tree in leaf, He went to find out if it had any fruit. When He reached it, He found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then He said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.”… (Mark 11:12-14 NIV).

A first look at this passage and what immediately comes to mind is the tendency to ask the question… but it was not the season for figs? However, a closer look would reveal UNPRODUCTIVITY on one level and DECEPTION on another level. Jesus found leaves on the tree and a tree full of leaves normally should have fruits. The Amplified Bible says… He went to see if He could find any [fruit] on it [FOR IN THE FIG TREE THE FRUIT APPEARS AT THE SAME TIME AS THE LEAVES].

Also, I read that Fig trees in Jerusalem normally begin to get leaves in March or April but do not normally produce figs until their leaves are all out in June. This tree was an exception in that it was already, at Passover time full of leaves. So if it is not your season why are you full of leaves?

UNPRODUCTIVITY and DECEPTION… and I like the phrase… SEEING IN THE DISTANCE… That’s what things looked like from a distance. It stood to deceive people but while you can deceive everyone, you can’t deceive Jesus. You can appear or pretend to be fruitful BUT when the Master comes for the fruit, where are they?

I remember looking at this a while back… Those of us that studied biology know that leaves are meant to capture sunlight for the tree (photosynthesis) allowing it to produce food in order to survive. The leaves are meant to supply the energy it needs to grow and reproduce fruits. That’s it purpose. However, instead of the fig tree displaying its fruits, it was only displaying the thing that was meant to sustain it. It’s the same thing with many Christians. Instead of really being fruitful, we take delight in only displaying our gifts and talents (leaves) but when Jesus comes, He will says; “Yes! I know you can sing, I gave you the gift. Yes! I know you can write, I gave you the gift. Yes! I know you can talk, I gave you the gift, but what have you done with it? Where are the fruits?”

Jesus cursed the tree and… In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots (Mark 11:20 NIV).

Now, we always like to point the finger but I always like to start by looking inwards… so my prayer would be to command anything inside or around me that is unproductive to become productive and anything that stands as deception wither from the roots in Jesus Christ name… Amen.

God bless you

“Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. And I WAS AFRAID, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’ “But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and LAZY SERVANT… (Matthew 25:24-26 NKJV).

It’s interesting how regardless of the excuses we give, the Lord always knows the root cause of the problem. In this parable, the servant seems to give ‘FEAR’ as the reason why he was unproductive but the master goes straight to the point and the word that caught my attention was… LAZY SERVANT… The Amplified Bible says… LAZY AND IDLE SERVANT!

Here’s a situation where the master distributed talents to three of his servants… each according to his ability (Matthew 25:15) meaning he knew what they were capable of. Through the years, he must have been observing them and knew that this one is just LAZY. Let me give him only one talent and see what he does with it. But it’s a shame that the opportunity was wasted. That one opportunity would have changed his situation because the one that was given 2 talents got exactly what the one that was given 5 talents got. The master told both of them… You have been faithful and trustworthy over a little; I will put you in charge of much. Enter into and share the joy (the delight, the blessedness) WHICH YOUR MASTER ENJOYS (Matthew 25:21, 23 AMP).

LAZY AND IDLE SERVANT!… Ok first of all, let me make a disclaimer… I didn’t write what you are about to read next. It says so in the Bible…

Here’s a Lesson the Bible says we should learn from the Ants…

YOU LAZY FOOL, LOOK AT AN ANT. Watch it closely; let it teach you a thing or two. Nobody has to tell it what to do. All summer it stores up food; at harvest it stockpiles provisions. SO HOW LONG ARE YOU GOING TO LAZE AROUND DOING NOTHING? HOW LONG BEFORE YOU GET OUT OF BED? A nap here, a nap there, a day off here, a day off there, sit back, take it easy—do you know what comes next? Just this: You can look forward to a dirt-poor life, poverty your permanent houseguest! (Proverbs 6:9-11 MSG)

Hmmm…I’ve been having frustrations this year with sleep. I always like to take a nap after work but after 1…2… hours with no sleep, instead of getting up to do some work, I’m lying there in frustration saying this sleep must come. But I’m sure God was speaking to me when I read this because there was no one else in the room… HOW LONG BEFORE YOU GET OUT OF BED?…

Hmmm… LETS LEARN FROM THE ANT…

God bless you
