Then the angel replied to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you [like a cloud]; for that reason the holy (pure, sinless) Child shall be called the Son of God. And listen, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month. For with God nothing [is or ever] shall be impossible.” Then Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; MAY IT BE DONE TO ME ACCORDING TO YOUR WORD.” And the angel left her (Luke 1:35-38 AMP).

Beloved, when it comes to God, there are some things that would never make sense to the human mind and that’s why the Christian faith is based on believing God. When the angel of God visited Mary, the mother of Jesus and told her that as a virgin she would become pregnant, can you imagine what would have happened if she had allowed herself to really try and reason it out?

Rather, she said… MAY IT BE DONE TO ME ACCORDING TO YOUR WORD…

If only this is our unshakable response to many of the things God tells us, we would see great things happen. However, most times, we tend to believe for a second or so until satan comes like a thief and snatches the word from us through doubt and reasoning.

The great thing about this text is that God did not just leave Mary with His word, He also left her with somebody else’s testimony. The Message translation says… The angel answered “… did you know that your cousin Elizabeth conceived a son, old as she is? Everyone called her barren, and here she is six months pregnant! … Everyone thought she couldn’t have a baby because she had passed child bearing age but it’s not about what you or anyone thinks. It’s about what God has done, what He can and says He would do. And I believe the Lord was also saying… Yes, I did that but don’t even limit Me to that because I am able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that you ask or think.

Beloved, what has the Lord told you that you’re still struggling with understanding how it would happen? Well don’t lose another night’s sleep. Rather, until it happens, let this be your watchword… MAY IT BE DONE TO ME ACCORDING TO YOUR WORD

Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do SUPERABUNDANTLY more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us (Ephesians 3:20 AMP)… MAY IT BE DONE TO ME ACCORDING TO YOUR WORD

And the Lord said, Behold, they are one people and they have all one language; and this is only the beginning of what they will do, and now NOTHING THEY HAVE IMAGINED THEY CAN DO WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR THEM (Genesis 11:6 AMPC).

Beloved… Agreement is a principle that works regardless of your intentions and our feature text shows us that it was so powerful that it drew God’s attention when the people tried to build the tower of babel. He had to scatter them because they were trying to make a name for themselves outside of His plan.

Reading the story of Moses and Joshua, you also find the strength of working together.

As long as Moses held up the staff in his hand, the Israelites had the advantage. But WHENEVER HE DROPPED HIS HAND, THE AMALEKITES GAINED THE ADVANTAGE. Moses’ arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of Moses, HOLDING UP HIS HANDS. So his hands held steady until sunset. As a result, Joshua overwhelmed the army of Amalek in battle (Exodus 17:11-13 NLT).

Beloved, the enemy gained an advantage WHENEVER HE DROPPED HIS HAND so, to prevent this, he needed support. In the same way, we all need to hold up each other’s hands; in our relationships, our marriages, and in the body of Christ as a whole…. because there’s a message in the Psalms about how unity spreads the anointing and commands our blessing… How wonderful, how beautiful, WHEN BROTHERS AND SISTERS GET ALONG! It’s like costly ANOINTING OIL flowing down head and beard, Flowing down Aaron’s beard, flowing down the collar of his priestly robes. It’s like the dew on Mount Hermon flowing down the slopes of Zion. Yes, that’s where God commands the blessing, ordains eternal life (Psalm 133:1-3 MSG).

Jesus said… Again I tell you, if two of you on earth AGREE (harmonize together, make a symphony together) about whatever [anything and [everything] they may ask, it will come to pass and be done for them by My Father in heaven. For wherever two or three are gathered (drawn together as My followers) in (into) My name, there I Am in the midst of them (Matthew 18:19-20 AMPC).

Beloved, it’s sad to see that the body of Christ in general don’t HOLD EACH OTHERS HAND UP… DON’T GET ALONG… DON’T AGREE… DON’T PURSUE PEACE. Rather, we look for ways to tear each other down; giving the enemy an ADVANTAGE but this is not the mind of Christ.

To win the world over, let’s start by coming together as one with Christ as the head of our homes and church. We can start by praying for each other. Like the song writer said… I pray for you… You pray for me… I love you… I need you to survive… I won’t harm you with words from my mouth… I love you, I need you to survive…

Beloved, let this be your heart beat this week…

Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him (John 4:20-23 NKJV).

Beloved, a few weeks ago, I went on a retreat with a few ladies and one of the sessions on our programme was ‘Worship in Spirit and in Truth’. Well, we all had our notes to teach on the topic but because ‘meeting by the well’ is very much a practical ministry, the Lord sure had something else in mind and by the time we were done, I had practical notes to go with my theory.

So, let the worship session begin…

Beloved, we ended up having a major argument which went along the lines of… ‘the way you Africans sing your songs versus the way we Jamaicans sing our songs’. The interesting thing is that it was the same worship song but sung in a slightly different way and one admitted that she struggled with the way you Africans sing your version and at some point, was contemplating just looking for a Jamaican ministry to join. The funny thing is that ‎she found it strange when ‘we Africans’ said we also struggled with your version (LOL). Why would you find it strange? What gives your version authority over mine? It was an interesting conversation which just shed some light on the conflict that the Samaritan woman found herself in.

Which one is it? “Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.

Beloved, in the end, we all admitted we couldn’t feel the presence of God but once we were able to push past that, we were fine. ‎So, is culture a barrier to worshipping in spirit and in truth or were we just in the flesh?

When I did my Masters in Applied Theology, we did a study on Christ and culture: Five views by H. Richard Niebuhr.

1. Christ against culture
2. Christ of culture
3. Christ above culture
4. Christ and culture in paradox
5. Christ the transformer of culture

Beloved, which one do you think it is? Today being Sunday, as you worship the Lord, why not ask yourself this question; am I a true worshipper? Because the Lord is seeking such

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” (Matthew 4:1-4 NKJV)

Beloved, someone was telling me of an experience they had when they first came into the UK. Unfortunately, at the time, they had no legal documents to work and so had to do whatever kind of job they could find. They basically had to do some hard work but according to them, they still thought there was hard work and then there was hard work with class. Out of desperation, they found themselves doing a job they felt was degrading. It was a job and anyone in their situation would be happy that they had a job but by the second day of the job, they were very upset that they had to do that sort of a job for money so they left and went home. They said they think they even cried when they got home but then they did something.

They had to sign and submit a daily timesheet in order to get paid but they looked at the timesheet and said to themselves “THIS IS NOT WHAT I WANT TO DO FOR MONEY” and then they tore the timesheet for the time they had worked. They were living with their sister at the time who felt they were silly to have done that. “You’ve already done the hard work. Yes, you can decide not to go there again but at least get paid for the job you’ve already done”. However, they didn’t listen to her. They went ahead and tore the timesheet.

So, beloved, why did they tear their timesheet? I’m sure it was a hard decision to make. They needed the money. However, I believe it’s because they were not going to allow desperation define what they would settle for and please don’t get me wrong, this isn’t about money. They went on to say that money can’t make you RICH. It is your mind-set that can but like I said, for me, this isn’t about money. It made me think of our feature text. Jesus was desperately hungry but He wasn’t prepared to settle for what the devil was proposing and it made me think of what we are willing to settle for.

Beloved, this would depend on whether you know who you are. King David said… I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, AND MY SOUL KNOWS IT VERY WELL (Psalm 139:14 AMP). The voice translation says… I carry this knowledge deep within my soul.

Beloved, does your soul (your mind, your will and your emotions) know who you are? Have you settled out of desperation?

Blessed (happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [FOLLOWING THEIR ADVICE, THEIR PLANS AND PURPOSES], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather (Psalm 1:1 AMPC).

Beloved, working with someone who is easily blown by the wind can be very frustrating. You spend hours contemplating and praying about an issue and just when you think you’ve arrived at a decision, they turn around and change everything just because they’ve spoken to friends and then you hit a dead end. I’ve come across people like that and it drove me crazy. After all the time spent discussing all the physical limitations and agreeing that it’s a job for an unlimited God, they then talk to friends that end up discouraging them. It won’t be so bad if these friends give godly advice but such counter advice come from people who only know how to manipulate the truth, cheat the system and compromise in every way possible.

Beloved, as a Christian, when you want to make decisions, who do you go to for advice? Do you go to friends that would tell you to take shortcuts because everyone’s doing it? Do you go to friends that would tell you to forge a signature so you can get that loan or contract? Do you go to friends that tell you that your biological clock is ticking so if God hasn’t sent you a husband, why not just go ahead and have a baby before you reach menopause? Or if your wife cannot give you a child, why not go and get one outside. Who’s giving you advice?

I love how the Message Translation put our feature text… How well God must like you— you don’t hang out at Sin Saloon, you don’t slink along Dead-End Road, you don’t go to Smart-Mouth College.

We see this happening every day. A group of friends gathering in the barber’s shop, pub or club and after a few bottles, the bottle starts doing the advising. It’s the hairdressing salon for us ladies or we are on the phone for hours (the most unproductive hours of your life) listening to wrong advice. Oh and some of us allow the soap operas and reality (unreality) shows counsel us.

Beloved, as I mature in my relationship with the Lord, I’m finding that a lot of things are coming off my prayer list and new ones added. For example, GOD PLEASE GIVE ME WISDOM to deal with the affairs of life. Lord, help me in making wiser decisions. The Bible says… If any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of the giving God [Who gives] to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or faultfinding, and it will be given him (James 1:5 AMP)

Beloved; many wasted years… many regrets… all because of bad counsel. Is this you? Why not turn to God and ask for His wisdom before you make another mistake.

Hannah’s rival PROVOKED her bitterly, to irritate and embarrass her, because the Lord had left her childless. So it happened year after year, whenever she went up to the house of the Lord, PENINNAH PROVOKED HER; so she wept and would not eat (1 Samuel 1:7 AMP).

Beloved, one thing I know for sure that the Lord has been doing in my life this year is to allow certain things happen to me that really provoked me just because He wanted to birth some things in me through prayer. I remember the last meeting by the well event that we had, He sent a lady to me that had my exact same story. It was so shocking and as she sat there crying her eyes out, she kept on saying “I don’t know what to do”. She went on to say that “before I leave here, I’m going to ask you to pray for me”. Hmmm… it’s a long story but I went home with the kind of holy anger that caused me to go before the Lord and the groaning of the Holy Spirit convinced me that God had heard the cries of His daughters and was now ready to act. I went to church the next day and all the guest preacher kept saying was “who’s going to fight for the women?” That’s when the Lord started to give me direction.

Our feature text introduces us to Hannah who was barren. Unfortunately, she had a rival, Peninnah who constantly laughed at her situation until she couldn’t take it anymore. Hannah was provoked but what does this mean. To ‘provoke’ means ‘to stir into action’. If Peninnah hadn’t provoked Hannah, she would have been sitting there crying but…Hannah rose… and [Hannah] was in distress of soul, praying to the Lord and weeping bitterly (1 Samuel 1:9-10 AMPC).

Beloved, Hannah prayed the kind of prayer that confused her pastor. He thought she was drunk… But Hannah answered, No… I was pouring out my soul before the Lord…out of my great complaint and bitter PROVOCATION I have been speaking (1 Samuel 1:15-16 AMPC).

Beloved, have you ever poured out your soul before the Lord? Maybe you haven’t yet been provoked. Hannah travailed before God until something happened…(1 Samuel 1:18). Her family returned home and … Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the Lord remembered her. Hannah became pregnant and in due time bore a son and named him Samuel [heard of God], Because, she said, I have asked him of the Lord (1 Samuel 1:19-20 AMPC).

Beloved, Samuel was a prophet much needed by God and his people for a time He was born hence the reason why God would sometimes allow situations to push you to come to Him. I’ve never travailed before the Lord on behalf of the likes of this woman and myself and the Lord has been fighting our battles one by one.

Are you being provoke into action? Is the Lord calling you to ARISE? Hannah rose and groaned before the Lord. Eli said… Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant your petition which you have asked of Him (1 Samuel 1:17 AMP) and He did.

SELAH!

There’s a slogan often quoted on matters like this: “All things are permitted.” Yes, but not all things are beneficial. “ALL THINGS ARE PERMITTED,” THEY SAY. YES, BUT NOT ALL THINGS BUILD UP AND STRENGTHEN OTHERS IN THE BODY. WE SHOULD STOP LOOKING OUT FOR OUR OWN INTERESTS AND INSTEAD FOCUS ON THE PEOPLE LIVING AND BREATHING AROUND US (1 Corinthians 10:23-24 Voice) ‎.

Beloved, recently I was having a discussion with someone about some of the things we do that though there may not necessarily be anything wrong with it, but we have got to realise that people everywhere are watching and when they see you doing certain things, they are like “oh so I’m allowed to do that”. However, when they then try to do it, because they are either not strong in their faith or in their discipline, they fall.

In our feature text, Apostle Paul says… ALL THINGS ARE PERMITTED,” THEY SAY. YES, BUT NOT ALL THINGS BUILD UP AND STRENGTHEN OTHERS IN THE BODY. WE SHOULD STOP LOOKING OUT FOR OUR OWN INTERESTS AND INSTEAD FOCUS ON THE PEOPLE LIVING AND BREATHING AROUND US

Beloved, according to my Bible notes, “Paul’s instruction on this matter is clear: believers should give up their rights and freedoms for the sake of others. This is the essence of sacrifice. This is what Jesus did. This is what Paul does. Otherwise, community becomes impossible. But no state or church authority should force compliance; it must arise from A HEART OF LOVE AND A DISPOSITION THAT PUTS THE NEEDS OF OTHERS FIRST”. ‎

…A HEART OF LOVE AND A DISPOSITION THAT PUTS THE NEEDS OF OTHERS FIRST…

Here, Apostle Paul is talking about living selflessly with others. It should never be a case of Me… myself and I…

Beloved, when we use the phrase ‘die to self’, do we know what it entails? Are you one of those people that would use all your time and energy just to prove the point that what you are doing is right; that there’s nothing wrong with what you are doing? As you mature spiritually, you ought to know that there’s a lot more responsibility placed on you. Like Jesus said… everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more (Luke 12:48 AMP)

Apostle Paul went on to say…Consider my example: I strive to please all people in all my actions and words—but don’t think I am in this for myself—THEIR RESCUED SOULS ARE THE ONLY PROFIT (1 Corinthians 10:33 Voice)

…THEIR RESCUED SOULS ARE THE ONLY PROFIT…
Beloved, we are told that… he who is wise captures and wins souls [for God—he gathers them for eternity] (Proverbs 11:30 AMP).

He gathers them for eternity not scatters them. So, the question today is; how wise are you? Remember… NOT ALL THINGS BUILD UP AND STRENGTHEN OTHERS IN THE BODY.

Jacob: I’LL MAKE A DEAL WITH YOU. I’ll serve you for seven years in exchange for the hand of your younger daughter Rachel in marriage.
Laban: AGREED… (Genesis 29:18-19 VOICE)

A few years ago, in a dream, I saw myself been ordered around by someone to sweep the floor and while I’m usually comfortable with any task given to do, however, in the dream, I wasn’t happy about it because it looked like I was their slave. I remember saying “why is he talking to me like that?” I didn’t understand this dream until recently when this same person came with a deal and the Lord immediately reminded me of my dream. He also reminded me of when He warned me to be mindful of the “Laban’s” I would come across.

This was when I was feeling relieved for having the boldness to say no to an opportunity after the Lord told me it wasn’t what He asked me to do.

Hmmm… Be mindful of the “Laban’s… What does this mean? Simple! Be careful who you make deals with. Be careful to pay attention to the small print because like Jacob, many have signed their destinies away. They’ve entered contracts that they find difficult to get out off.

Jacob entered a contract that unknown to him was going to tie him down for 20 years of his life. He didn’t read the small print and was surprised at what he got… “What have you done to me? Did we not have a deal—seven years of labor in exchange for your daughter Rachel? Why have you deceived me? (Genesis 29:25 VOICE).

Hmmm… Jacob said “this isn’t what I signed up for but here’s the small print he failed to read… “It’s not our custom here to marry off a younger daughter ahead of the firstborn”… (Genesis 29:26 NLT)

But why didn’t you tell me this before? And then there was the manipulation with sweet words (Genesis 30:27-28)

Hmmm… Things became messy and it affected their relationship which led to a public showdown. In front of everybody, Jacob said “ahah, what kind of thing is it?… For 20 years, I have been in your household. I served you 14 of those years in return for your two daughters, and six years for your flock. And you have altered my payment 10 times. If the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the Fear of Isaac had not been on my side, surely now you would have sent me away empty-handed. But God knows my plight and how hard I’ve labored for you, and it was He who reprimanded you last night! (Genesis 31:41-42 VOICE)

Beloved, it took the Lord’s intervention to rescue Jacob from this deal. The message here is simple; ‘be careful of the kind of deals you sign up for. Remember, ask the Lord to open your eyes… He’s the one to give you keys… Don’t sell your soul to anyone…

24. January 2016 · Comments Off on WHEN YOU HAVE JUST YOUR PROPHECY TO HOLD ON TO‏ · Categories: Agreement, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Prayer, Promise

Timothy, my child, I am giving you a command… that agrees with the prophecies that were given about you in the past. I TELL YOU THIS SO THAT BY FOLLOWING [OR BY RECALLING] THEM YOU CAN FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT (1 Timothy 1:18 EXB).

Beloved, have you got any prophecies spoken over your life? This is a beautiful Scripture that gives us something to always look forward to when it seems like there’s no way out of some of the situations we sometimes find ourselves in.

Some time ago, I was telling a friend that I found a new boost of faith based on the fact that I started to go over the prophecies that I received some years back. My exact words were… “Didn’t my prophecy say that the Lord has heard my prayer for so and so… and that He’s on the case? That was in 2011 even before I ever knew I would be in this situation so why should I think that He has abandoned me now?”

The funny thing about the prophecy I was referring to was that it sounded so strange to me then and I was like… “what are you talking about?” but then, didn’t the Lord say… I will answer them before they even call to Me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers! (Isaiah 65:24 NLT)?

The beauty of this was that these prophecies were recorded and I remember it came up in a conversation where I was telling this same friends that I wasn’t sure were the CD was but it was so amazing that in a few days, I woke up to see a pile of CD’s that had fallen on the floor and in the process of putting them back, I found my CD. Hmmm… I was so amazed but it was like the Lord was saying… “girl, you’re going to be needing this” and that’s how I started listening to my prophecies over and over again.

The Amplified Bible says… inspired and aided by them you may fight the good fight…

Beloved, the Lord always sends prophecies ahead of us so that we can have something to hold on to it when we are facing what seems like dead situations and most times what follows after a prophecy has been released is trouble. The enemy would go after that prophecy just to try and abort it and it may get to the point where your situation looks like the exact opposite of what was prophesied but that’s not the time to give up. Rather, it’s the time to bring out your prophecy and start to declare it over your life… “let it be to me according to Your word (Luke 1:38)”. It’s a very good weapon for fighting the good fight of faith that’s sure to see you through to victory.

30. November 2015 · Comments Off on GET RID OF THAT DEEP ROOTED MIND-SET · Categories: Action, Agreement, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Mind, Promise, Spiritual Growth, Thoughts, Trusting God, Truth, Words

We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:4-5 NLT).

Recently, I was reminded of how a family friend was playing a game with my brother. He kept on losing and back then, if there was anything my brother was good at, it was rubbing it in. He went on and on until this family friend provoked. He got up, scattered the game and then began to lament about how he had bad luck… how he was a failure… how anything he touched didn’t succeed… how his dad left…

My brother was shocked and quickly had to stop what he was doing… “but it’s only a game”, he said, However, to this young man, it was more than that. It was a deep rooted mind-set… a stronghold that had held on tightly and would not let him go… a typical Mephibosheth story who felt like he was a dead dog (2 Samuel 9:8)

Unfortunately, regardless of how much is taught on the battle of the mind, many still struggle with this deep rooted mind-set and the problem is that if you see yourself as a dead dog, you will continue hanging out where dead dogs lie.

Beloved, please know that the first step in turning your life around is by changing the way you think… For as he thinks in his heart, so is he… (Proverbs 23:7)

The Bible gives a prescription for this deep rooted mind-set… be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you] (Romans 12:2 AMP).

This daily prescription should be taken more than once daily. In fact, throughout the course of the day, it should be taken as often as needed. Many of the battles you face in life would be won if you can just do what this verse says… renew your mind to see yourself how the Lord sees you.

Beloved, regardless of whatever happened in your past, you have a choice. Be like… Jabez who was more honorable than any of his brothers. His mother named him Jabez because his birth had been so painful. HE WAS THE ONE WHO PRAYED TO THE GOD OF ISRAEL, “OH, THAT YOU WOULD BLESS ME and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!” And God granted him his request (1 Chronicles 4:9-10 NLT).

To expand your territory would also involve expanding your mind to think right. Isn’t it time to start dealing with that defeating mind-set?

God bless you
