After going a little farther, He fell to the ground [distressed by the weight of His spiritual burden] and began to pray that if it were possible [in the Father’s will], the hour [of suffering and death for the sins of mankind] might pass from Him. He was saying, “Abba, Father! All things are possible for You; take this cup [of judgment] away from Me; but not what I will, but what You will.” (Mark 14:35-36 AMP)

Beloved, using yesterday’s message as backdrop, I remember when someone was telling me that they were truly tired of praying for a situation they were facing and the question is what do you do when you’ve prayed, you’ve fasted, you’ve done everything you know how to do but the mountain is not moving? Like Jesus said to the Father in our feature text, “all things are possible for You” so, why is this situation not changing?

Yes, all things are possible for the Lord but there are some crosses you may have to carry for a while to achieve a greater purpose. This was exactly what I told this person and someone else confirmed it. Not easy to hear but God surely is working out a greater testimony.

Beloved, when you find yourself in such situations, does that mean God has left you to your own devise? Absolutely not! In the case of Jesus, we read that while He was wrestling with the reality that He had to carry His cross… there appeared to Him an angel from heaven, strengthening Him in spirit (Luke 22:43 AMP). I like the way the Message translation put it… “Father, remove this cup from Me. But please, not what I want. What do you want?” AT ONCE AN ANGEL FROM HEAVEN WAS AT HIS SIDE, STRENGTHENING HIM.

Strength was what was needed. So, as you submit to the will of God; “Father, give me the strength to carry this cross” is the prayer that is needed.

We also see the same sort of thing happening to Apostle Paul. When going through his own trial, he said… Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But He said to me, “MY GRACE IS SUFFICIENT FOR YOU, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me (2 Corinthians 12:8-9 NIV).

Beloved, Grace was what was needed. “Father, give me the grace to go through this and come out stronger and wiser” is the prayer that is needed because… we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28 NIV)

Beloved, this is one of those messages or Scriptures that we don’t like to hear about but unfortunately, we can’t erase it from the Bible, so whatever it is that the Lord may be asking you to endure for a season… let endurance have its perfect result and do a thorough work, so that you may be perfect and completely developed [in your faith], lacking in nothing (James 1:4 AMP).

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.” But it was to us that GOD REVEALED THESE THINGS BY HIS SPIRIT. For His Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets (1 Corinthians 2:9-10 NLT).

Beloved, I once heard a joke about a man that was visited by thieves. “Where’s the money?” They screamed out the amount as they searched the house and when the man heard the amount they were after, he joined in the search. “What are you doing?”, the thieves stopped to ask. “I’m also looking for the money! I wasn’t aware that I had that kind of money in this house”, he replied.

Beloved, this is supposed to be a joke but it describes the state of many of us; not being aware of what satan, the thief who comes to steal, and to kill, and to destroy is after (John 10:10)

But what do I have that satan want’s to steal, kill and destroy? Well, according to our feature text, our canal minds cant comprehend. That’s why it’s so easy for satan to attack a carnal Christian. The Lord says come higher. Look, the table is served but Satan diverts your attention so you are constantly chasing after the things that satisfy the flesh instead of growing spiritually and moving higher.

Scriptures say… But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means (1 Corinthians 2:14 NLT).

Beloved, it’s like the Israelites who kept going around the same mountain for 40 years instead of moving forward and possessing their promised land. Why? Because they turned every challenge they faced into a big issue instead of seeing it as an opportunity to trust God and grow in faith. They were like, “I’m not going to move from this spot until you give me what my flesh desires. What’s this spiritual food (Manna) you are giving to us? Yuck! It doesn’t taste good (Exodus 16:15).

Beloved, no carnal eye, ear or mind can comprehend what God has in stock for them. He reveals things SPIRIT to spirit and it’s only when you’re able to operate on that level that you’ll even realise that a lifestyle of holiness and obedience to God actually benefits rather than restricts you like some think… IF ONLY YOU KNEW…

Today, I pray for revelation… I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people (Ephesians 1:18 NIV). That is… to make you intelligent and discerning in knowing Him personally, your eyes focused and clear, so that you can see exactly what it is He is calling you to do, grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life He has for His followers (The Message).

“Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again. And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear!” (Luke 5:5-6 NLT)

Beloved, there are those moments in life where after you’ve done all you think you know how to do, you get to that place where you feel “I can’t do this anymore because it’s just going to produce the same old results”. However, how are you sure about that?

Looking at our feature text, we find that Peter and his team were in a similar position. They had done all the work they were going to do and had nothing to show for it but then, Jesus comes along on the scene and instructs Simon to try again.

Oh yes, Peter had his justified argument which went along the lines of “I know the ins and outs of this business. I’ve been doing this for a long time. I’ve invested, laboured and given it my all, but unfortunately, as you can see, I haven’t seen any returns. However, Jesus said, “I want you to try again”.

I remember listening to someone say that at this point, Jesus checks the heart of Simon. Surely, Jesus knew Simon had been toiling all night and with no catch. He also knew that people were watching; people that knew that he hadn’t caught anything. The story tells us that… as Jesus was preaching… great crowds pressed in on Him to listen to the word of God. He noticed two empty boats at the water’s edge, for the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets (Luke 5:1-2 NLT)

Off course, some if not all of these great crowd knew that Simon hadn’t caught anything but now, Simon has a choice to make which is either to risk looking foolish in front of people and trying again or be deterred by what people may say. As an experienced fisherman, he knew what the chances were of catching anything. He probably heard shouting voices in his head saying, “don’t do it again because people would laugh at you” but Simon was not going to allow his pride get in the way, causing him to miss out on what Jesus wanted to give him and the results were amazing.

Beloved, regardless of what had gone on in the past, when Jesus got on his boat, things changed. Unfortunately, many times, we end up doing things without His presence or instructions and end up catching nothing despite all our efforts but when Jesus is present and He is finally the one directing your boat, things are bound to change and the interesting thing is that His presence brought about the right type of assistance and partnership.

Beloved, are you at that place where you are afraid to try again? Could Jesus be saying “trust Me and just obey My leading and see what happens? Your abundant catch could be one try away.

THEN GOD SAID, “LET THERE BE light,” and there was light (Genesis 1:3 NLT).

Beloved, these were the words God said as He created the world and when it was time… Then God said, “Let Us make human beings in Our image, to be like Us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.” So God created human beings in His own image. In the image of God He created them; male and female He created them (Genesis 1:27 NLT).

So, if God created you in His image, then you also have the ability to speak and name things and we see this power demonstrated when Adam named every living creature… and whatever Adam called every living creature, that was its name (Genesis 2:19 AMPC).

Beloved, this is just a reminder that the words that we speak have power. We ought to know that we shouldn’t be confessing negative things about ourselves, our spouses, our children and our situation because the words we speak have power and it’s time we start realising the power of the tongue when used either positively or negatively because like the Bible says… Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it SHALL EAT THE FRUIT OF IT [FOR DEATH OR LIFE]. (Proverbs 18:21 AMPC)

SHALL EAT THE FRUIT OF IT [FOR DEATH OR LIFE]…

This is scary if you stop to think of some of the things you say like, I’m living from hand to mouth… This headache is killing me… I don’t think I can survive this situation… What am I doing alive?… and all the other negative things we say when we are down without realising the power behind them.

Beloved, the Bible says… the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. IT CAN SET YOUR WHOLE LIFE ON FIRE, FOR IT IS SET ON FIRE BY HELL ITSELF (James 3:6 NLT).

When you open your mouth and all those negative things starts flowing out of it, know that hell is at work and the last thing you want to do is agree with the enemy concerning any aspect of your life because his only agenda is to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). So, why not make it a point of duty to think of the things you say before you say them and if you can’t think of anything good to say, just say “Jesus is Lord” or “thank you Lord for wisdom to restrain my tongue”.

Asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom[a] and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance (Ephesians 1:17-18 AMPC)

Beloved, how’s your ability to see? Meditating on the story of the time the Israelites under the leadership‎ of Joshua matched round the wall of Jericho to bring the walls down, you would find that the very first thing the Lord told them to do even before they matched round the wall of Jericho was to SEE! The Bible says… And the Lord said to Joshua: “SEE! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor (Joshua 6:2 NKJV).

This is the same thing the Lord told Abraham… And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are – northward, eastward, and westward; for all the land which you SEE I give to you and your descendants forever (Genesis 13:14-15 NKJV).

Beloved, the Lord would always address your ability to SEE for so it’s important that you get rid of everything and everyone that blocks your vision. Abraham had to get rid of Lot whose name means veil. I’m also thinking of the Prophet Isaiah who said… It was in the year King Uzziah died that I SAW the Lord. He was sitting on a lofty throne, and the train of His robe filled the Temple ‎(Isaiah 6:1 NLT).‎

I was meditating on who Uzziah‎ represented. He represents one that became very proud after he became very powerful (2 Chronicles 26: 16) and I can just imagine that with such a person as your leader, they would want you to always come through them. They have to be the one to pray for you, hear from God for you, read the Bible for you etc. You have no direct relationship with the Lord. They would even want to exalt themselves above the Lord in your life but it was when Uzziah died that Isaiah saw the Lord. ‎‎

Beloved, Apostle Paul in our feature text said was praying for our ability to see the plans the Lord on another level. This is a deep spiritual call because like the Bible says… ‎ “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.” But it was to us that God revealed these things BY HIS SPIRIT. For His Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us (1 Corinthians 2:9-12 NLT).

Beloved, the Israelites had to SEE before they conquered. Have you the ability to see beyond what you are currently seeing?

Now after this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant, AND FOR FIVE MONTHS SHE SECLUDED HERSELF COMPLETELY, SAYING, “This is how the Lord has dealt with me in the days when He looked with favor on me, to take away my disgrace among men.” (Luke 1:24-25 AMP)

AND FOR FIVE MONTHS SHE SECLUDED HERSELF COMPLETELY, SAYING…

Beloved, did you read that clearly? Elizabeth received a miracle from the Lord that she never thought was possible and it left her in awe for five good months. This is the kind of miracle that you can’t tell anybody for fear that they would wake you up from a dream. The Message translation says… It wasn’t long before his wife, Elizabeth, conceived. She went off by herself for five months, relishing her pregnancy. “So, this is how God acts to remedy my unfortunate condition!” she said.

This encouraged me so good because as I read further, I saw that it was the same miracle the angel of the Lord used to encourage Mary when it was her own turn to expect a miracle that would also leave her in awe.

After telling Mary the ridiculous word that she would be impregnated by the Holy Spirit and would have a child, he said… listen, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month. FOR WITH GOD NOTHING [IS OR EVER] SHALL BE IMPOSSIBLE.” Then Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel left her (Luke 1:36-37 AMP).

FOR WITH GOD NOTHING [IS OR EVER] SHALL BE IMPOSSIBLE…

Beloved, old Elizabeth became pregnant, AND FOR FIVE MONTHS SHE SECLUDED HERSELF COMPLETELY, SAYING, “This is how the Lord has dealt with me in the days when He looked with favor on me, to take away my disgrace among men. I read this and started counting at the tip of my fingers; we are five months away from the end of this year… August, September, October, November, and December. So, I started to pray that the Lord should give us a miracle in this month that would cause us to ponder for the rest of the year.

Beloved, do you believe this? Mary said… May it be done to me according to your word… It doesn’t matter what has happened in the past. The word of God says… “Do not remember the former things, or ponder the things of the past. “Listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even put a road in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert (Isaiah 43:18-19 AMP).

It didn’t matter that Elizabeth and her husband had served faithfully in the past without anything to show for it. In one moment, the Lord did it. He looked with favor on them and took away their disgrace. You are next in line. May it be done to you according to His word.

27. May 2017 · Comments Off on DEALING WITH VAIN IMAGINATIONS‏ · Categories: Agreement, Deliverance

(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:4-5 KJV).

Beloved, a vain imagination is anything that is birthed in our minds by OUR THINKING OR REASONING that is contrary to what God’s word says about us and every now and again, the Holy Spirit always leads me to write about the mind; OUR THINKING OR REASONING because that’s where many seem to be losing the battle.

We must all know that the mind is a very powerful tool which unfortunately, the enemy uses very well as a battlefield if given free and unrestricted access. He starts by planting seeds of thoughts which you are bound to think are yours if you are not aware of his devises. Before you know it, you start to imagine all sorts of rubbish. You feel a slight headache and then you start to think of how one uncle or aunty died of brain tumour and then you start to imagine that you are next. Or you hit your leg on a stone while walking and then you start to think that it is God punishing you for the sin you committed last week. You then begin to have this conversation with the Lord… “but I thought You had forgiven me?” Then something else happens and you think the same way. Before you know it, huge condemnation sets it and you are thinking… I’m never going to pass that exam or interview because God is not pleased with me. As a result, you then go on living life expecting the worst to happen to you and as you know… as he thinks in his heart, so is he (Proverbs 23:7 AMP).

The truth is that all these vain imaginations start as a seed of thought that the devil plants in your mind and like someone once said, vain imagination is one common method those that practice witchcraft uses to plant their evil plans into one’s life”. Before you know it, out of nowhere, you start thinking you are going to die. God forbid!!!

Beloved, this is why it’s very important that you take every negative thought captive and bring it to the obedience of Christ. You must not allow it to grow and develop. How do you do this? You must always practice the habit of thinking of what you are thinking of. “Where is this thought coming from? Is it from the Lord? Is this what the Word of God says about me?” If it isn’t, then it certainly is a lie from the devil and then, you have to always search out the truth in the Scriptures, believe what it says and live by that truth only.

Remember… And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32 NKJV)

Then the angel replied to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you [like a cloud]; for that reason the holy (pure, sinless) Child shall be called the Son of God. And listen, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month. For with God nothing [is or ever] shall be impossible.” Then Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; MAY IT BE DONE TO ME ACCORDING TO YOUR WORD.” And the angel left her (Luke 1:35-38 AMP).

Beloved, when it comes to God, there are some things that would never make sense to the human mind and that’s why the Christian faith is based on believing God. When the angel of God visited Mary, the mother of Jesus and told her that as a virgin she would become pregnant, can you imagine what would have happened if she had allowed herself to really try and reason it out?

Rather, she said… MAY IT BE DONE TO ME ACCORDING TO YOUR WORD…

If only this is our unshakable response to many of the things God tells us, we would see great things happen. However, most times, we tend to believe for a second or so until satan comes like a thief and snatches the word from us through doubt and reasoning.

The great thing about this text is that God did not just leave Mary with His word, He also left her with somebody else’s testimony. The Message translation says… The angel answered “… did you know that your cousin Elizabeth conceived a son, old as she is? Everyone called her barren, and here she is six months pregnant! … Everyone thought she couldn’t have a baby because she had passed child bearing age but it’s not about what you or anyone thinks. It’s about what God has done, what He can and says He would do. And I believe the Lord was also saying… Yes, I did that but don’t even limit Me to that because I am able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that you ask or think.

Beloved, what has the Lord told you that you’re still struggling with understanding how it would happen? Well don’t lose another night’s sleep. Rather, until it happens, let this be your watchword… MAY IT BE DONE TO ME ACCORDING TO YOUR WORD

Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do SUPERABUNDANTLY more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us (Ephesians 3:20 AMP)… MAY IT BE DONE TO ME ACCORDING TO YOUR WORD

And the Lord said, Behold, they are one people and they have all one language; and this is only the beginning of what they will do, and now NOTHING THEY HAVE IMAGINED THEY CAN DO WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR THEM (Genesis 11:6 AMPC).

Beloved… Agreement is a principle that works regardless of your intentions and our feature text shows us that it was so powerful that it drew God’s attention when the people tried to build the tower of babel. He had to scatter them because they were trying to make a name for themselves outside of His plan.

Reading the story of Moses and Joshua, you also find the strength of working together.

As long as Moses held up the staff in his hand, the Israelites had the advantage. But WHENEVER HE DROPPED HIS HAND, THE AMALEKITES GAINED THE ADVANTAGE. Moses’ arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of Moses, HOLDING UP HIS HANDS. So his hands held steady until sunset. As a result, Joshua overwhelmed the army of Amalek in battle (Exodus 17:11-13 NLT).

Beloved, the enemy gained an advantage WHENEVER HE DROPPED HIS HAND so, to prevent this, he needed support. In the same way, we all need to hold up each other’s hands; in our relationships, our marriages, and in the body of Christ as a whole…. because there’s a message in the Psalms about how unity spreads the anointing and commands our blessing… How wonderful, how beautiful, WHEN BROTHERS AND SISTERS GET ALONG! It’s like costly ANOINTING OIL flowing down head and beard, Flowing down Aaron’s beard, flowing down the collar of his priestly robes. It’s like the dew on Mount Hermon flowing down the slopes of Zion. Yes, that’s where God commands the blessing, ordains eternal life (Psalm 133:1-3 MSG).

Jesus said… Again I tell you, if two of you on earth AGREE (harmonize together, make a symphony together) about whatever [anything and [everything] they may ask, it will come to pass and be done for them by My Father in heaven. For wherever two or three are gathered (drawn together as My followers) in (into) My name, there I Am in the midst of them (Matthew 18:19-20 AMPC).

Beloved, it’s sad to see that the body of Christ in general don’t HOLD EACH OTHERS HAND UP… DON’T GET ALONG… DON’T AGREE… DON’T PURSUE PEACE. Rather, we look for ways to tear each other down; giving the enemy an ADVANTAGE but this is not the mind of Christ.

To win the world over, let’s start by coming together as one with Christ as the head of our homes and church. We can start by praying for each other. Like the song writer said… I pray for you… You pray for me… I love you… I need you to survive… I won’t harm you with words from my mouth… I love you, I need you to survive…

Beloved, let this be your heart beat this week…

Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him (John 4:20-23 NKJV).

Beloved, a few weeks ago, I went on a retreat with a few ladies and one of the sessions on our programme was ‘Worship in Spirit and in Truth’. Well, we all had our notes to teach on the topic but because ‘meeting by the well’ is very much a practical ministry, the Lord sure had something else in mind and by the time we were done, I had practical notes to go with my theory.

So, let the worship session begin…

Beloved, we ended up having a major argument which went along the lines of… ‘the way you Africans sing your songs versus the way we Jamaicans sing our songs’. The interesting thing is that it was the same worship song but sung in a slightly different way and one admitted that she struggled with the way you Africans sing your version and at some point, was contemplating just looking for a Jamaican ministry to join. The funny thing is that ‎she found it strange when ‘we Africans’ said we also struggled with your version (LOL). Why would you find it strange? What gives your version authority over mine? It was an interesting conversation which just shed some light on the conflict that the Samaritan woman found herself in.

Which one is it? “Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.

Beloved, in the end, we all admitted we couldn’t feel the presence of God but once we were able to push past that, we were fine. ‎So, is culture a barrier to worshipping in spirit and in truth or were we just in the flesh?

When I did my Masters in Applied Theology, we did a study on Christ and culture: Five views by H. Richard Niebuhr.

1. Christ against culture
2. Christ of culture
3. Christ above culture
4. Christ and culture in paradox
5. Christ the transformer of culture

Beloved, which one do you think it is? Today being Sunday, as you worship the Lord, why not ask yourself this question; am I a true worshipper? Because the Lord is seeking such
