While… in prison, Pharaoh’s cup-bearer and baker each had a dream one night, and each dream had its own meaning. When Joseph saw them the next morning, he noticed that they both looked upset. “Why do you look so worried today?” he asked them (Genesis 40:6-7 NLT)‎

Beloved, have you ever read this story about Joseph and his encounter with Pharaoh’s chief cup-bearer and baker in prison and imagined what would have happened if Joseph didn’t observe that they were worried and even more… if he didn’t ask them why they looked that way?

Joseph had a God-given dream which wasn’t exactly as straightforward as we would like it to be. There wasn’t a map handed to Joseph to say this is how to get from where you are now to your destination. He didn’t have an easy ride but what I’m learning about Joseph is that he had to spot the opportunities God placed in front of him.

The captain of the guard assigned Joseph to look after Pharaohs chief cup-bearer and baker (Genesis 40:4) and one morning, as he was attending to them, Joseph noticed their countenance and it was only when he asked what was wrong that… they replied, “We both had dreams last night, but no one can tell us what they mean. ” Interpreting dreams is God’s business,” Joseph replied. “Go ahead and tell me your dreams.”(Genesis 40:8 NLT)

This gave Joseph the opportunity to put his gift to work. He went on to interpret their dreams which later worked in his favour as it brought him before the king. The king had his own dream which needed interpreting… Pharaoh sent for Joseph at once, and he was quickly brought from the prison. After he shaved and changed his clothes, he went in and stood before Pharaoh. Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I had a dream last night, and no one here can tell me what it means. But I have heard that when you hear about a dream you can interpret it.”‎ (Genesis 41:14-15 NLT)

Joseph interpreted the dream and this was the end result… ‎Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has revealed the meaning of the dreams to you, clearly no one else is as intelligent or wise as you are. You will be in charge of my court, and all my people will take orders from you. Only I, sitting on my throne, will have a rank higher than yours.” Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I hereby put you in charge of the entire land of Egypt.” ‎ (Genesis 41:39-41 NLT)

Beloved, when it’s your season, the Lord would give you opportunities here and there but how many opportunities have you overlooked? ‎Perhaps when it’s that time, that’s when the enemy would want to distract you; all to shift your focus. Joseph could have easily focused on offence; these are Potiphar’s people that joined to throw me in prison but he seized his opportunity and he walked into God’s purpose. Are you recognising your opportunity?

For those whom He foreknew [of whom He was aware and loved beforehand], He also destined from the beginning [foreordaining them] to be MOLDED into the image of His Son [and share inwardly His likeness], that He might become the firstborn among many brethren (Romans 8:29 AMPC).

Beloved, have you ever done something and thinking back, you feel that you didn’t handle it how Jesus would have handled it? Before handling a particular situation, have you first of all stopped and asked yourself what would Jesus Christ do in this situation? What if we all took a few seconds to think like this before acting?

Our feature text says we’ve been destined from the beginning to be MOLDED into the image of Christ and during our midnight prayer session last night, my prayer partner and I spent a considerable amount of time repenting from any instance where we haven’t used the situations we have been presented with to show people Jesus Christ and then, we spent time praying to be MOLDED into the image of Christ.

The Bible says… You learned Christ! My assumption is that you have paid careful attention to Him, been well instructed in the truth precisely as we have it in Jesus. Since, then, we do not have the excuse of ignorance, everything—and I do mean everything—connected with that old way of life has to go. It’s rotten through and through. Get rid of it! And then take on an entirely new way of life—a God-fashioned life, a life renewed from the inside and WORKING ITSELF INTO YOUR CONDUCT as God accurately REPRODUCES HIS CHARACTER IN YOU (Ephesians 4:21-24 MSG).

Beloved, have you learnt anything from Christ? Are you putting what you’ve learnt into practice? The Bible says… Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are His dear children. Live a life filled with love, FOLLOWING THE EXAMPLE OF CHRIST (Ephesians 5:1-2 NLT)… In your relationships with one another, HAVE THE SAME MINDSET AS CHRIST JESUS: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage… being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself… (Philippians 2:5-8 NIV)

Beloved, are you making decisions to love like Christ does? Are you making decisions to be humble when the opportunity arises? Instead of snapping at people, like Jesus, take out time for yourself when you are tired… Like Jesus, be about your Father’s business and avoid distractions… Like Jesus, forgive… Like Jesus… [FILL THE GAP]

Beloved, what would Jesus Christ do at all times? We must realise that the purpose of our walk with Christ is to be like Him so we should always aim to discern what Christ will do in every situation we find ourselves. We should then solicit the help of the Holy Spirit to help us where we are weak… let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes (Ephesians 4:23 NLT)

David was greatly distressed, for the men spoke of stoning him because the souls of them all were bitterly grieved, each man for his sons and daughters. But David ENCOURAGED AND STRENGTHENED HIMSELF in the Lord his God (1 Samuel 30:6 AMPC).

Beloved, I remember listening to someone say that to encourage yourself in the Lord is a very good thing until you get stuck. Of course, we all need encouragement from time to time. There are times in life when bad things happen and we do need God’s encouragement, but the danger is when we can’t move on from there. It’s just like when people get addicted to painkillers after taking them for a while. The pain is no longer there, but they can’t stop taking them.

“Stop listening to the same encouraging message over and over again”, they said. Well, I totally got what they were trying to say because I’ve found that I’ve gone off some of the preachers I used to listen to when I was at a very low point in my life. For instance, I remember the very first email devotional I received when my brother died said something along the lines of “there are some things that happen to you that you just have to file in the ‘I cannot understand it folder of your head’”. I don’t need to tell you that I started listening to every sermon they preached and God used their message of hope to minister to me greatly. The Lord is great like that, but I believe a time comes when He wants you to move on and not stay low.

We are told that after encouraging himself… David inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them? The Lord answered him, Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all. SO DAVID WENT… (1 Samuel 30:8-9 AMPC)

Beloved, the Lord gave the go ahead and SO DAVID WENT… He moved on. He took action and as a result… David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken and rescued his two wives. Nothing was missing, small or great, sons or daughters, spoil or anything that had been taken; David recovered all (1 Samuel 30:18-19 AMP).

Can you imagine if David remained stuck at the stage in his life when he needed encouragement? Everybody had turned on him so who knows; probably he would have started to play the victim and before you know it, depression would have set in. Only God knows what would have happened to his wife and children then.

Beloved, there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens (Ecclesiastes 3:1 NIV). DON’T GET STUCK WHERE YOU ARE. People’s lives and future may depend on your next move.

I say to you, get up, pick up your mat and go… (Mark 2:11 AMP)

When Gideon took his warriors down to the water, the Lord told him, “Divide the men into two groups. In one group put all those who cup water in their hands and lap it up with their tongues like dogs. In the other group put all those who kneel down and drink with their mouths in the stream.” Only 300 of the men drank from their hands. All the others got down on their knees and drank with their mouths in the stream. The Lord told Gideon, “With these 300 men I will rescue you and give you victory over the Midianites. Send all the others home.” (Judges 7:5‭-‬7 NLT)

Beloved, our feature text tells the narrative of how the Lord selected the warriors that would go along with Gideon to fight His battle and it always amazes me.

First, the Lord says to Gideon… tell the people, ‘Whoever is timid or afraid may leave this mountain and go home.’” So 22,000 of them went home, leaving only 10,000 who were willing to fight (Judges 7:3‭ NLT).

Well, at least they were honest. However, what did the Lord do next? The next test was to see how the remaining would handle their personal needs… God said to Gideon: “Everyone who laps with his tongue… set on one side. And everyone who kneels to drink, drinking with his face to the water, set to the other side.” Three hundred lapped with their tongues from their cupped hands. All the rest knelt to drink. God said to Gideon: “I’ll use the three hundred men who lapped at the stream to save you and give Midian into your hands. All the rest may go home.” (Judges 7:‬5‭-‬7 NLT)

Beloved, we see here that though the first group had to quench their thirst, thier posture shows that they were still alert. However, as for the other group, from their posture, you can see that they were engrossed in meeting their own need. With these ones, the enemy can easily come and bounce on them taking them by surprise because they are not alert.

Send them home, the Lord said (Judges 7:7). They are not ready for the kind of battle I am sending you on… So Gideon collected the provisions and rams’ horns of the other warriors and sent them home. But he kept the 300 men with him… (Judges 7:8 NLT)

Beloved, people always ask me how come I’m able to keep going after all I’ve been through (and trust me when I say I’ve been through some things). Well, the Bible says… having done all, to stand (Ephesians 6:13 NKJV).

Jesus said… The seed that fell among the thorns represents others who hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by THE WORRIES OF THIS LIFE… so no fruit is produced (Mark 4:18-19 NLT).

THE WORRIES OF THIS LIFE… are you always alert or are you one that gets buried in your own issues? Could that be disqualifying you? It’s time to raise your head up and focus on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2)

Like newborn babies you should crave (thirst for, earnestly desire) the pure (unadulterated) spiritual milk, that by it you may be nurtured and grow unto [completed] salvation (1 Peter 2:2 AMPC)

Beloved, I couldn’t stop laughing when I heard someone say, “you’ve been a Christain longer than it takes a doctor to study to become qualified yet you still don’t know the word of God”. That made me laugh but it’s true. Many times, you hear us Christians say that we want to grow in the things of the Lord but the one thing that we need to do to facilitate this growth is the one thing that many do not do and that is to feed on the word of God. There’s no other way. This means to read, study, meditate on God’s word.

The analogue of a newborn baby is used in our feature text because the unrestrained hunger of a healthy baby provides an example of the kind of eager desire for spiritual food that ought to mark a Christian. Milk is the appropriate nourishment needed for babies to grow up. In the same way, God’s word is the appropriate nourishment needed for a Christian to grow. Without it, you stay malnourished and become very unhealthy and unfortunately, that’s when all kinds of diseases start to attack you and then you are in and out of God’s emergency room instead of His throne room.

Unfortunately, if a survey were carried out to see how many Christians actually read their Bibles, you would be surprised at the response? Off course, that’s if we are honest with ourselves but we do ourselves (not anyone else) a great injustice or disservice.

Our text goes on to say… crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, NOW THAT YOU HAVE TASTED THAT THE LORD IS GOOD (1 Peter 2:2-3 NIV). The question is; has the Lord been good to you? So why won’t you want to explore Him further? The Lord reveals Himself through His word. Not just that, everything we need for living victoriously is in His word. The Lord told Joshua… Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful (Joshua 1:8 NIV).

Beloved, a newborn baby craves milk whenever it is hungry and would desperately cry out for it whether it’s in the morning, afternoon or the middle of the night… it doesn’t care. It would cry out for it until it is full for that moment but then it would cry out again when it is empty. That’s how babies grow. In the same way, that’s the only way we can grow as a Christian.

Beloved, studying the Bible is an area that challenges many but now’s the time to do yourself a favour and start feeding on the word so you can grow. There’s no other way.

And there was a woman who had had a flow of blood for twelve years, and who had endured much suffering under [the hands of] many physicians and had spent all that she had, and was no better but instead grew worse. She had heard the reports concerning Jesus, and she came up behind Him in the throng and touched His garment, For she kept saying, If I only touch His garments, I shall be restored to health (Mark 5:25-28 AMPC).

Beloved, there are some desperate conditions or situations that you find yourself where giving up is not an option. The woman with flow of blood had spent all that she had; money, perhaps jewellery and all her property to try and get better. She kept on going from place to place; perhaps someone would say to her that there is this man in so and so place, if you can only just see him, all your problems would be over. That would give her hope and she can’t wait till morning to make her way down there. On getting there, they prescribe a solution which she follows to the very last instruction. However, one day turns to one week which then turns to one month and nothing happens and that’s the worst feeling because… Hope deferred makes the heart sick… (Proverbs 13:12 AMPC)

It won’t have been so bad if she stayed the same but instead she got worse. However, the good news is that after her experience with all these others physicians, when she heard the reports concerning Jesus, she could have said… hmmm… they are all the same; what does He have to offer that I haven’t tried before. You know there are times when you’ve tried everything; you go from place to place, they’ve prayed for you, fasted with you, smeared you with anointing oil, and when you hear of an opportunity to really reach out to Jesus, you start to think… which one is this one again? They are all the same but we must applaud this woman that she had to make a decision to try Jesus after all her past disappointments.

Beloved, bleeding for twelve good years, this woman was fast losing life and she could have said let me just accept my misery and die but she took a step of faith and touched Jesus… and immediately her flow of blood was dried up at the source, and [suddenly] she felt in her body that she was healed of her [distressing] ailment (Mark 5:29 AMPC).

I don’t know what aspect of your life is wasting away but know that touching Jesus is different from just going to church. There was a crowd with Jesus but in the midst of that crowd, Jesus felt this woman’s touch. Why not really open up to Jesus today? O taste and see that the Lord [our God] is good!… (Psalm 34:8 AMPC).

When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m too much of a sinner to be around you.” For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with h‎im (Luke 5:8-9 NLT)

Beloved, have you ever been where Peter was before? “I know that feeling” was what I said to myself as I read our feature text. This is the point in your life where Jesus shows up and you know exactly what He is asking for and for many, it’s at the time when you are not quite ready for the disruption. At this point, Peter probably knew it was make or break for him. He probably knew that he had to make ‎some major changes in his life where he must have thought; “I can’t be going to those places and hanging out with those people anymore. Yes, I know I am going to have to cut some people and some habits off which I am not quite sure I am ready for.

Also, like most people, he probably felt he wasn’t worth it. He felt unworthy. Looking to himself, he must have said, “knowing me, I am bound to mess this up big time”. He was afraid of this massive change and so he said… Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m too much of a sinner to be around you.” However, what did Jesus say to him? …Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!” And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus (Luke 5:10-11 NLT).

Beloved, are you prepared for such a disruption in your life? Or, do you keep saying “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m too much of a sinner to be around you”?

Yesterday, the message was “Don’t be afraid to try again” and though trying again may disrupt your whole world but I am a living witness that it pays. You cannot put a price tag on the life and character transformation. I am not there yet but I am reminded of what Apostle Paul said… dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us (Philippians 3:13-14 NLT).

Beloved, so are you prepared to leave everything that is detrimental to your Christain work and walk and follow Jesus for real?

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who by faith have testified to the truth of God’s absolute faithfulness], stripping off every unnecessary weight and the sin which so easily and cleverly entangles us, let us run with endurance and active persistence the race that is set before us (Hebrews 12:1 AMP)

“Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. BUT IF YOU SAY SO, I’LL LET THE NETS DOWN AGAIN.” And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! (Luke 5:5-6 NLT)

BUT IF YOU SAY SO, I’LL LET THE NETS DOWN AGAIN…

Beloved, I read our feature text‎ and immediately started thinking of how many have missed out on what the Lord has for them because they are afraid to try again. Yes, we know that… Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life (Proverbs 13:12 NLT). Letting his nets down again was the game changer for Simon Peter and it should be the same for anyone that dares to try again regardless of their vulnerability.

Before now, Simon Peter had toiled all night fishing but caught nothing. Perhaps in your case, you have been toiling with your career, your education, your ministry… whatever area you have invested your time and resources without results. Or perhaps yours is in the area of relationships. You have toiled and toiled and you are now so afraid to open up to anyone again but the Bible says… guard your heart (Proverbs 4:23) and not lock it up and throw the key away.

The key is to trust in the Lord; in His wisdom… In His leading and direction knowing that He says… For I know the plans I have for you… They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11 NLT).

Beloved,… God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7 NLT). If only you would dare to try again… If only you will let the nets down again…

The other thing which I touched on yesterday is about expectation but not just expectations, preparation for what you are expecting. Peter and his crew did not have the capacity to handle what was coming and so their nets began to tear.

Beloved, this is a good time to start getting ready… “Sing, O childless woman, you who have never given birth! Break into loud and joyful song, O Jerusalem, you who have never been in labor. For the desolate woman now has more children than the woman who lives with her husband,” says the Lord. “Enlarge your house; build an addition. Spread out your home, and spare no expense! For you will soon be bursting at the seams. Your descendants will occupy other nations and resettle the ruined cities. “FEAR NOT… (Isaiah 54 NLT)

Beloved, FEAR NOT!

In the days when the judges ruled in Israel, a severe famine came upon the land. So a man from Bethlehem in Judah left his home and went to live in the country of Moab, taking his wife and two sons with him (Ruth 1:1 NLT).

Beloved, there’s the saying that ‘all that glitters is not gold’ or that ‘the grass is not always greener on the other side’ and I bet Naomi wished someone had sat them down and really explained this to them before they left their home. They move to Moab in search of greener pastures but see what happened… Elimelech died, and Naomi was left with her two sons (Ruth 1:3 NLT). And then… both Mahlon and Kilion died. This left Naomi alone, without her two sons or her husband (Ruth 1:5 NLT).

If only they had been patient to see what God was going to do because the situation at home did not last forever… Naomi heard in Moab that the Lord had come to the aid of His people by providing food for them… (Ruth 1:6 NLT)

Bethlehem means ‘house of bread’ meaning they were in the city of bread but because they didn’t see the bread they left. It reminds me of Abraham. Soon after he set out on his journey, he arrived in Canaan, the promised land but… there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine was severe (Genesis 12:10 NIV). Abraham had to go back and forth for a while but I like that when it came to his son, Isaac, the Lord immediately intervened and said… DO NOT GO DOWN TO EGYPT… Dwell temporarily in this land, and I will be with you and will favor you with blessings… (GENESIS 26:3 AMPC).

Beloved, are you thinking of escaping to Moab? Moab is from Lot’s descendants and we know the choice Lot made that landed him in Sodom and Gomorrah. Because of impatience and wanting to take the easy way out, Naomi faced deadly consequences. We tend not to like anything that causes us any kind of pain or discomfort but longsuffering is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22) and …after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you (Peter 5:10 ESV).

09. March 2017 · Comments Off on IT COULD REALLY BE THAT SIMPLE · Categories: Action, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Trusting God

Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful (1 Corinthians 1:27 NLT).

Beloved, what could be stopping you from your breakthrough? This is a question that we really need to think about. There are times when we tend to complicate things for ourselves because we think the Lord’s solution to our problem has to be something major but we can learn from Naaman. His healing came through what we may call the simple and foolish things which was hard for him to comprehend, and so delayed his healing. First from his servant who said “If only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy.” (2 Kings 5:3 NIV).

But you see, Naaman was the commander of the army so kings had to be involved. He was sent to the king of Israel so that the king may cure him of his leprosy.” (2 Kings 5:5-6 NIV). But that’s not what his servant said. She said go to the prophet for healing not the king. But No!…I only deal with important people.

Anyway he eventually went to Elisha but then he stopped at the door of Elisha’s house and Elisha sent a messenger to say to him, “Go, wash yourself seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh will be restored and you will be cleansed.” (2 Kings 5:9-10 NIV).

Beloved, Naaman was a man used to getting respect so was mad when Elisha treated him like an ordinary person. How dare you not come out to meet me? And as if that’s not enough disrespect, you want me to go wash in a small and dirty river? Naaman was proud but obedience to God must start with humility and that was the first thing the Lord had to deal with…get off your high horse Naaman.

His other problem which is the same for many of us is that we think we know how we want the Lord to answer us… “I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy (2 Kings 5:11 NIV).

Oh really? Are you God? We tend to expect God to work in a certain way but we ought to know that His ways are not our ways. Jesus performed many miracles in different ways. On one occasion, He spat on a blind man’s eye (Mark 8:23). Naaman would have had something to say about that.

We could also think the solution to our problem is too simple. Naaman expected something big and would have missed his breakthrough but for his servant who said… IF THE PROPHET HAD TOLD YOU TO DO SOME GREAT THING, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, ‘Wash and be cleansed’!” (2 Kings 5:13NIV).

Beloved, what has the Lord been telling you to do that you have been ignoring? Maybe because of what’s involved, you think it’s not the Lord speaking but IT COULD REALLY BE THAT SIMPLE.
