…TAKE THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:17 NLT).

Beloved, the Word of God is a great weapon to fight against the attacks of the enemy and how to use it can be best illustrated using Jesus as a perfect example to follow.

How did Jesus overcome satan when led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by him? You see this in Matthew 4:3-11 (NIV);

“If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “IT IS WRITTEN…”
“If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down…” Jesus answered him, “IT IS ALSO WRITTEN…”
“…All this I will give you, if you will bow down and worship me.” Jesus said to him… FOR IT IS WRITTEN: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.’”

Jesus used ‘IT IS WRITTEN’ and Satan left him after that. He is the Son of God… He knows what He’s talking about.

In the above scenario, it’s important to note that satan also knows the word of God. See what he said to Jesus… “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. FOR IT IS WRITTEN: “‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’” Jesus answered him, “IT IS ALSO WRITTEN: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” Matthew 4:6-7 (NIV)

Satan knows the word of God but he was using the text to manipulate Jesus; to get Him to do what he wanted Him to do. This should be a warning for those that either use Scriptures to manipulate people or are being manipulated by people. Satan is an expert at manipulating Scriptures so you must also equip yourself with ‘IT IS ALSO WRITTEN’.

Now the question for you is how many ‘IT IS WRITTEN’ do you know? I once heard of a lady that slept with the Bible under her pillow because she was having so many attacks at night and when she experienced an attack, she would pull it out and hold it up against whatever demon she was facing hoping to scare them away. Isn’t it funny how we tend to treat the Bible like the power is in the Book itself? It’s the Word of God contained in it that is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword… (Hebrews 4:12) and until you get acquainted with the Word Himself, allowing the Holy Spirit to minister to you, it remains just a Book to you.

Beloved, using the sword of the Spirit involves continually studying and meditating on the word for revelation so you are able to confront the enemy with… “This is what my Daddy says…”

Demons are petrified of Christians who know the power they have in Jesus Christ, the living Word. Don’t you think it’s time for you to wake up? It is my prayer that you start to TAKE UP YOUR SWORD and pierce the enemy where it hurts and as you do so, may you win every battle thrown your way.

…TRUTH, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. LEARN HOW TO APPLY THEM. You’ll need them throughout your life… (Ephesians 6:13-18 MSG).
Beloved, we are privileged to have the full armour of God as a complete weapon against satan but we must learn how to develop and apply them so we can stand firm when he attacks. The first one is TRUTH… putting on the belt of truth buckled around your waist. A Roman soldier’s belt secured his armour in their proper place and supported his sword. In the same way, the truth should secure all your armour in place.
With spiritual warfare, the mind is the main battlefield. The battle of the mind takes place when the enemy attacks your thoughts about the truth of God, yourself and your relationship with Him. Many people have been fed with so many lies by satan and over the years, this has formed mental strongholds. But Jesus said… You will know the Truth and the Truth will set you free (John 8: 32).
You develop spiritual muscles in this area by daily absorbing Scriptural truth. What is the truth about God and my situation? I like how Neil Anderson of freedom in Christ put it. He said… “If what we think does not reflect the truth, then what we feel does not reflect reality”.
Beloved, I’m thinking of Jacob. At one time… Jacob exclaimed, “You are robbing me of my children! Joseph is gone! Simeon is gone! And now you want to take Benjamin, too. Everything is going against me!” (Genesis 42:36 NLT). However, we know that wasn’t the reality. For one, Joseph was not dead but the sad thing was that Jacob had already decided years ago… “I will go to my grave mourning for my son,”…(Genesis 37:35 NLT) and that’s how he lived his life until he found out the truth.
Unfortunately, many of us have been fed many lies about our lives and for such a mind that has been brainwashed with lies for so many years, developing spiritual muscles would involve renewing your mind with God’s truth. Many even believe God doesn’t love them but you have to get reject that lie and by continually telling yourself that God loves me… That’s why He sent His Son to die for me. This may take some time but Christians who fill their mind with God’s truth win spiritual battles against the mind. They… take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).
Beloved, you also need to rely heavily on the help of the Holy Spirit to replace every lie with the truth. Jesus said… But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth)… (John 16:13 AMP) Today, I pray that you allow Him teach you truth that would break any stronghold formed in your mind and as you do so, may you win every battle thrown your way.

David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, BUT I COME AGAINST YOU IN THE NAME OF THE LORD ALMIGHTY, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied (1 Samuel 17:45 NIV).

Beloved, when we pay close attention to this story of David and Goliath, we would realise that the story isn’t so much about David and Goliath but about the contrast between David, the to-be king of Israel and Saul, the current king of Israel at the time. It is a story about how differently they handled the threat of Goliath. It is about the negative example of Saul, the type of king the people asked for that is filled with lack of trust in God, fear, timidity and avoidance of responsibility and the contrasted positive example of David, the type of king that God wanted which is filled with total reliance on God and carrying out the will of God. This is why… after removing Saul, He made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, A MAN AFTER MY OWN HEART; HE WILL DO EVERYTHING I WANT HIM TO DO.’(Acts 13:22 NIV)

Beloved, this brings me to the question… which one are you? David or Saul? Let me make it easier for you. Are you totally reliant on God and doing His will? If you are then you are not afraid of any obstacle that comes your way. You are not timid and won’t run away from any responsibility the Lord has entrusted you to do. YOU WOULD DO EVERYTHING THE LORD WANTS YOU TO DO. This is because you are 100 per cent confident that the Lord is the one that would do it and that you would overcome any obstacle IN THE NAME OF THE LORD ALMIGHTY.

On the other hand, are you filled with fear? Are you more reliant on your own abilities and resources than on the Lord? That is, immediately you are confronted with an obstacle, you shrink and go into hiding because you see it as bigger than you. Or when the Lord gives you an assignment, you immediately look to your resources and think there’s no way that’s possible. You tend to look to the people around you rather than call on THE NAME OF THE LORD ALMIGHTY. And worse of all, you rather please people than please God.

Beloved, which one are you really? David or Saul?

King David was the one that said… some trust in and boast of chariots and some of horses, BUT WE WILL TRUST IN AND BOAST OF THE NAME OF THE LORD OUR GOD (Psalm 20:7 AMP). You too should be able to say… I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.] (Philippians 4:13 AMP)

The woman said to Him, I know that Messiah is coming, He Who is called the Christ (the Anointed One); and when He arrives, HE WILL TELL US EVERYTHING WE NEED TO KNOW AND MAKE IT CLEAR TO US. Jesus said to her, I WHO NOW SPEAK WITH YOU AM HE (John 4:25-26 AMPC).

Beloved, I have always shared on this forum that there was a time I never used to take my Bible seriously and when I told someone that I only started really taking it Bible seriously and felt the need to read it daily only about a few years again, they asked me why. I told them that Jesus started to speak to me through what I was reading. The Scriptures started becoming alive to me.

Before then… I tell you… it was a real struggle to grasp the whole thing but I remember one time when there was this person that used to complain over everything every time they came around me and that used to trigger the same thing in me… I started complaining as well. But then as I opened my Bible, the following passage jumped at me … Then the foreign rabble who were traveling with the Israelites began to crave the good things of Egypt. AND THE PEOPLE OF ISRAEL ALSO BEGAN TO COMPLAIN… (Numbers 11:4 NLT).

I couldn’t get pass this text… I kept on reading it over and over again. Then I went on to study what was the result of their complaining which was not good.

Hmmm… During the exact same time, the Lord started to speak to me about being careful about the people you travel with through Abraham and lot’s story… Now [in Haran] the Lord said to Abram, Go for yourself [for your own advantage] away from your country, from your relatives and your father’s house, to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation… So Abram departed, as the Lord had directed him; AND LOT [HIS NEPHEW] WENT WITH HIM… (Genesis 12:1-4 AMPC)

HIS NEPHEW WENT WITH HIM… This brought conflict and strife between them and Abraham was going round in circles and could not hear from God until they separated (Genesis 13:8-17). This was a great revelation for me and it was my clue to make difficult but wise separations and later, the Lord started to show me why.

Beloved, every time you open your Bible to read it, know that it’s Jesus speaking…. And the WORD (Christ) became flesh… and tabernacled (fixed His tent of flesh, lived awhile) among us… (John 1:14 AMPC)

The Samaritan woman had questions and was waiting for Christ to answer them but then He revealed Himself… I AM HE… THE ONE SPEAKING TO YOU… the One you’ve just had a conversation with. When you start to see your Bible like that, it makes all the difference. Someone said your Bible is the only book you find that the Author is there, present with you, speaking to you as you read it… So, what is Jesus saying to you? You may never know until you start reading it

I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised Him from the dead. I want to suffer with Him, sharing in His death, SO THAT ONE WAY OR ANOTHER I WILL EXPERIENCE THE RESURRECTION FROM THE DEAD! (Philippians 3:10-11 NLT)

Beloved, in our feature text, you almost get the sense that Apostle Paul is speaking as if there’s a danger of missing and coming short of knowing Christ and so was desperate to do whatever he needed to do. This was not because he thought he could do anything to gain his salvation. NO! This was a holy and reverential fear of shortcomings and probably the reason he urges us to… continue to work out our salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12).

Apostle Paul knew that there was some pressing forward to do. He needed to keep pressing on and needed whatever help he could get from our High Priest who had been there, done it, got the victory and has made help available for our own journey (Hebrews 4:15-16).

The reason Apostle Paul makes this statement in Philippians 3:10-11 is to know Jesus in a way that transformed him both spiritually and morally. He knew this could not be done in his on strength so was willing to do and suffer anything to gain access and experience the mighty power that raised Jesus from the dead. That same power dwells in us and is working in us to change us (Romans 8:11).

Beloved, Jesus Christ has made available for us the power we need to change into His image and likeness and personally, I don’t want to dance around that power but tap into it and see it working in my life – I want to know and experience all of Jesus and I’m not deceived. It may take some tears, some suffering, letting go of things and dying daily to self.

Apostle Paul went on to say… Finally my dear brothers and sisters… Not that I have already attained this—that is, I have not already been perfected—but I strive to lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus also laid hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have attained this. Instead I am single-minded: Forgetting the things that are behind and reaching out for the things that are ahead, with this goal in mind, I strive toward the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:12-14 NET).

Beloved, we would not reach complete perfection until when Christ returns to take us into His eternal kingdom but it is my earnest prayer that we ask for the strength and grace to press on and strive towards the price. I pray that God opens our eyes to understand what we need to do to know Him more… the strength to surrender to His will in our garden of Gethsemane, carry our cross and to allow what needs to die in us die so that we can live for Him.

02. January 2017 · Comments Off on THE DELIGHT OF MEDITATING ON THE WORD · Categories: Decision making, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Power and Authority, Revelation, Words

Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do (Psalm 1:1-3 NLT).

Beloved, have you ever had those days when you just feel like you need to read your word out of duty‎? Those days when you think you are doing God a favour by reading the word for the day? Those days when you just read the word so you can tick it off your To Do list? Well, if that has ever been your experience, permit me to ask you to take a minute right now and say this short prayer; “Lord, Your word says… For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him (Philippians 2:13 NLT)… so in 2017, I am asking that You give me the desire to delight in Your word, meditating on it day and night because I realise that that’s where my fruitfulness lies”.

Beloved, the book of Joshua says… Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do (Joshua 1:8 NLT). Let this be your reality this year – where you know and you know and you know that your prosperity and success depends on meditating on the Word of God. Job said… I have not departed from His commands, but have TREASURED HIS WORDS MORE THAN DAILY FOOD (Job 23:12 NLT). While David said… Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path (Psalm 119:105 NLT).

I started reading the book of Genesis and throughout the first chapter, all you will hear is… “Then God said, let there be…”. We are then told that… By faith [that is, with an inherent trust and enduring confidence in the power, wisdom and goodness of God] we understand that the worlds (universe, ages) were framed and created [formed, put in order, and equipped for their intended purpose] BY THE WORD OF GOD, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible (Hebrews 11:3 AMP).

… BY THE WORD OF GOD… Beloved, you need to live by the word of God this year and nothing else. You must desire it like food and if you don’t have appetite, remember to ask the Lord to give you the desire to meditate on the word day and night… For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13 AMP).

21. November 2016 · Comments Off on IDENTIFYING THE REAL CULPRIT · Categories: Forgive, Healing, Jesus Christ, Relationship, Restoration, Revelation

If you forgive anyone, I forgive that one as well. Have no doubt, anything that I have forgiven—when I do forgive—is done ultimately for you in the presence of the Anointed One. It’s my duty to make sure that Satan does not win even a small victory over us, for we don’t want to be naïve and then fall prey to his schemes (2 Corinthians 2:10-11 Voice).

Beloved, there’s this saying that when two elephants fight, it’s the grass that suffers and recently, I was telling someone that they just happen to be the grass caught up in such a fight and it takes God to open your eyes to what’s going on around you.

We know the story of Leah and Rachel. They were sisters who found themselves in a predicament and spent the most part of their lives fighting each other over the same husband. However, after very many years of bitter rivalry, it got to the point when they finally came to their senses. They eventually realised that all this while, it was their father that was the real culprit. They had been seriously exploited by their father and by the time Jacob, their husband let them in on his plans to run away from their father, they were both up for it.

They both said to Jacob… “Do we still have any share in the inheritance of our father’s estate? Does he not regard us as foreigners? Not only has he sold us, but he has used up what was paid for us (Genesis 31:14-15 NIV). How sad! The Message translation says… “Rachel and Leah said, “Has he treated us any better? Aren’t we treated worse than outsiders? All he wanted was the money he got from selling us, and he’s spent all that”.

Beloved, there was definitely a feeling of betrayal going on here and while both sisters took it out on each other for a long while, they had to make peace in the end. At some point, they had to let go of the bitterness towards each other and identify the real culprit.

This is thought provoking because I have personally seen cases where for years, there’s been family wars where one person keeps pointing the finger at somebody else to make people believe that person is the one responsible for all the trouble in the family. However, we must know that satan is a real expert at knocking heads together while he secretly carry’s out his plans, so it’s always important for you to always pray for the Lord to open your eyes to see what’s really going on around you.

As Jesus predicts His death, “Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!” [but] Jesus turned and said to Peter, “GET BEHIND ME, SATAN!”” (Mathew 16:23-23 NIV)

Beloved, it was Peters lips that was moving but Jesus could hear satan’s voice. We should be able to do the same… lest satan takes advantage of us… It’s time to let go of the strife and forgive and work together to cast out the real culprit.

…The people who know their God shall prove themselves strong and shall stand firm and do exploits [for God] (Daniel 11:32 AMPC).

Beloved, when the Lord looks down at His church, He sees different categories of Christians who come to Him for different reasons and I believe it’s really up to us to limit the kind of relationship we want to have with Him. If you are only after the things that you can get from Him then so be it but I like the Scripture that says…HE MADE KNOWN HIS WAYS TO MOSES, His deeds to the people of Israel (Psalm 103:7 NIV).

Some people are content with just receiving His physical blessings but there’s more. The Message Translation says… HE SHOWED MOSES HOW HE WENT ABOUT HIS WORK…

While Moses was in a position to part the red sea, others were content with just passing through; I don’t really care to know how it happened, just let me through. Such people would keep on looking unto Moses to part the way for them but not Peter. Water or no water, I’m coming to You. These are the ones that have the answer to… “Who do you (not people) say I am?” “You are the Messiah”. “Great… and you are Peter, the rock… and no devil in hell can stop you” (Matthew 16:15-19).

Beloved, to operate on such a level, there’s no two ways about it, you’ve got to invest in getting to know Him intimately. The kind of knowing that Paul describes when he says… I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of His resurrection and participation in His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead (Philippians 3:10-11 NIV). I know we would love to leave out the SUFFERING but it’s a package deal that makes you strong and firm.

Beloved, since I started writing, I found out that regardless of how much you try, there are some things you can’t explain in writing. Apart from revelation, how does one explain this kind of power made available to us? Paul couldn’t so He prayed… that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe Him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 1:19-20 NLT).

Personally, my greatest desire is to always know the mind of God and that’s done in the place of close communication with Him. Hence I always pray for the Lord to give me a praying spirit. I want my spirit and His Spirit to be in alignment because… We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE WILL OF GOD (Romans 8:26-27 NIV).

Beloved, I want more; to know the Lord and His ways so I can do exploits for Him. What about you?

While Jeremiah was still confined in the courtyard of the guard, the Lord gave him this second message: “This is what the Lord says—the Lord who made the earth, who formed and established it, whose name is the Lord: Ask Me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come (Jeremiah 33:1-3 NLT).

Beloved, when going through trials, the kind of questions you ask would determine whether it is the Lord or the devil that would give youu an answer you. If you keep asking questions like “why me? Why does this keep happening to me? What have I done to deserve this? Why do You keep allowing this happen to me?”, then you are bound to hear the enemy whois the accuser of the brethren say “It’s because you are not good enough… It’s because God does not love you or care for you… It’s because you have sinned… It’s because God has not forgiven you… It’s because you have not prayed enough…etc. I don’t need to tell you all the condemning thoughts that come to your mind.

However, when you ask the right questions like “Lord, what are You up to? What do You know about this situation that You want to reveal to me? What am I to learn from this situation?”, then the Lord would answer and start to tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come.

In our feature text, Jeremiah found himself in a difficult situation where he was locked up in prison. Can you imagine the kind of things that the devil would say to him if he gave him a chance? “Lord, why am I here after faithfully serving You all my life?” “Hmmm… man of God… do you have to ask? Look at you… You must have missed it somewhere down the line. Are you even sure God called you? Are you sure you heard from God” Bla… Bla… Bla…

However, we are told that while in that condition, the Lord told Jeremiah that there are better things to come… Ask Me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come.

Beloved, I’m not denying that there are times when you can get so overwhelmed and really don’t know what to say but perhaps that’s the time to say nothing. Put your phone off or turn the ringer off and like Peter, take a good nap (Acts 12:6) and ask the Lord to wake you up when He is ready to talk.

Beloved, you have got to turn off the wrong voices to hear the right Voice. The Lord knows exactly what He is doing. He says… for I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for Me wholeheartedly, you will find Me (Jeremiah 29:11-13 NLT).

31. October 2016 · Comments Off on THE BATTLE THE LORD ORCHESTRATES · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Restoration, Revelation, Suffering, Trusting God, Victory

Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day (Genesis 32:24 NKJV).

Beloved, there was a very low moment in Jacob’s life when he found he had to face his struggles all alone. He needed some alone time to figure out the direction his life was taking so he sent his family away and was all alone. During that period, Jacob happened to have wrestled all night long with an unknown man. At that point in his life, he was running away from quite a few people so it could have been anybody. It could have been his twin brother whom he had stolen his birth right from. It could have been his uncle, Laban or maybe one of his uncle’s sons because… Jacob heard Laban’s sons complaining, Jacob has taken away all that was our father’s; he has acquired all this wealth and honor from what belonged to our father (Genesis 31:1 AMPC).

So, you see; Jacob was bound to think he was wrestling with an enemy. This night battle went on for a while and recently, someone highlighted the fact that Jacob wrestled when others went into rest. They then asked the question whether anyone knows what it is to still be battling when all your mates are married… have children… a good career etc…

Anyway, Jacob wrestled with this unknown figure all night and as morning drew near, they decided it was time to exchange pleasantries. The unknown man asked for Jacob’s name and Jacob told him. So in return… Jacob said, “Please tell me your name.” But he replied, “Why do you ask my name?” Then he blessed him there. So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, “It is because I SAW GOD FACE TO FACE, and yet my life was spared.” (Genesis 32:29-30 NIV)

Ok, so it is probably not too polite that our unknown figure did not reply Jacob’s question but what am I trying to say here? Though he didn’t tell him his name, after the long battle that seemed like it would never come to an end; after the long struggle and then the blessing that was bestowed on Jacob, Jacob must have come to the realisation that this can only be God. He said… I SAW GOD FACE TO FACE…

Beloved, when we go through certain battles in life, they can be so tough that we most often think it is the enemy we are battling with. But it isn’t until the battle is all over and you’ve prevailed and come out on the other side that you suddenly realise that it wasn’t really about the devil. It was actually orchestrated by God.

Beloved, the purpose of the battle is to change your name and character from what you were previously known by and to give you a new status fit for the blessing of the Lord. If only you can hang in there till it is morning time, you too would realise that the battle you fought this year was DEFINITELY ORCHESTRATED BY GOD.
