Then they came to Bethsaida; and some people brought a blind man to Jesus and begged Him to touch him. Taking the blind man by the hand, He led him out of the village; and after spitting on his eyes and laying His hands on him, He asked him, “Do you see anything?” And he looked up and said, “I see people, but [they look] like trees, walking around.” Then again Jesus laid His hands on his eyes; and the man stared intently and [his sight] was [completely] restored, and he began to see everything clearly. And He sent him to his home, saying, “DO NOT EVEN ENTER THE VILLAGE.” (Mark 8:22‭-‬26 AMP)

DO NOT EVEN ENTER THE VILLAGE…

Beloved, in our feature text, we see that before Jesus could heal this blind man, He first had to take him by the hand and lead him out of the village and after Jesus restored him, Jesus gave him strict instructions… DO NOT EVEN ENTER THE VILLAGE…

So, the question is why did Jesus say so? It’s probably because there are some toxic environments that are detrimental to you.

I was meditating on this Scripture and thinking about the fact there are some environments that the Lord would deliver you from and all you need to do is think of the process of that deliverance for you to know not to go near that environment anymore. The deliverance wasn’t a one time thing. Jesus had to revisit the case several times. This man needed several touches and the process was a messy one; spitting on his eyes and all that… you get the picture!

Beloved, when you go through such a process, you know to disassociate yourself from that environment. You know to keep your distance; “I love you with the love of Jesus but I have only just got my sight back and it costs me. So, I don’t want nothing from you. I don’t need to come back and defend my reputation. Say whatever you want to say about me. Think whatever you want to think of me. If I have done anything to offend you, I apologise from the bottom of my heart and I ask that you please forgive me but from now on, you do you while I do me. God bless you.

Beloved, unfortunately, Bethsaida was a “woe to you” environment. Jesus said… “Woe (judgment is coming) to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented and changed their minds long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes [to show deep regret for sin]. However, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you (Luke 10:13‭-‬14 AMP). And while we may never understand why Jesus would tell us to stay clear of certain environment, all we need to think of is our ‘before’ and ‘after’ picture and know that… It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery (Galatians 5:1 NIV).

A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. WHAT YOU SAY FLOWS FROM WHAT IS IN YOUR HEART (Luke 6:45 NLT).

Beloved, I think what Jesus said here in our feature text is straight forward. If you want to know what’s in your heart, then pay attention to what comes out from your mouth. I remember some years back when someone had to sit me down and tell me that I was very negative. It was hard to accept then but it was true. It didn’t matter what positive comment you made, rather than say ‘thank you’, I found a way to think of something negative to say in response. And oh… the words that came out of my mouth were like fire. I could slice you into two with my mouth and I didn’t have to dig deep to think of what to say to spite or hurt you but going by Jesus’ statement, there comes a time when you’ve got to really sit down and think; Where’s all this coming from?

It even gets more complicated because… FOR AS HE THINKETH IN HIS HEART, SO IS HE… (Proverbs 23:7 KJV). This is no longer about what you say but about what you are thinking in your heart which is also influenced by what is stored in your heart, which then is what you become and what you attract.

Unfortunately, throughout life, we experience negative things and without realising it, we store them up. Soon enough, these things start to manifest in ways we can’t explain and then we say… “I can’t believe I just said or did that or I can’t believe this is what I’m becoming”. However, that’s because you are not taking care of your heart. You are told to… Guard your heart above all else, FOR IT DETERMINES THE COURSE OF YOUR LIFE (Proverbs 4:23 NLT). The NIV says… FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO FLOWS FROM IT.

Beloved, you may not be able to control some of the things that happen to you but you can handle things just by changing the way you think. I think I have shared before how growing up, there were times when we couldn’t afford to eat three meals a day and I remember we would all come together and just talk about the days when we ate something really nice. By the time we took turns to describe the nice meals we could remember, it cheered us up and we would all go to bed smiling. We had memories of all that nice food stored somewhere inside our hearts LOL.

Beloved, over time, I’ve had to do a lot of ‘FIND AND REPLACE’ to get rid of all the garbage in my heart. How do you replace? The Bible says… FIX YOUR THOUGHTS on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise (Philippians 4:8 NLT).

Can you think of any good thing to fix your thoughts on?

While Jeremiah was still confined in the courtyard of the guard, the Lord gave him this second message: “This is what the Lord says—the Lord who made the earth, who formed and established it, whose name is the Lord: Ask Me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come (Jeremiah 33:1-3 NLT).

Beloved, a while ago, I remember listening to someone say when going through trials, the kind of questions you ask would determine whether it is the Lord or the devil that would answer you and it is so true.

If you keep asking “why me? Why does this keep happening to me? What have I done to deserve this? Why do You keep allowing this happen to me?” Then you are bound to hear the enemy say “It’s because you are not good enough… It’s because God does not love you or care for you… It’s because you have sinned… It’s because God has not forgiven you… It’s because you have not prayed enough…etc. I don’t need to tell you all the condemning thoughts that comes to your mind.

But when you ask the right questions like “Lord, what are You up to? What do You know about this situation that You want to reveal to me? What am I to learn from this situation?” Then the Lord would answer and start to tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come.

Jeremiah found himself in a difficult situation. He was locked up in prison. Can you imagine what the devil would say to him if he gave him a chance? “Lord, why am I here after faithfully serving You all my life?” “Hmmm… man of God… do you have to ask? Look at you… You must have missed it somewhere down the line. Are you even sure God called you?” The devil would have told him everything he did wrong. However, while in that condition, the Lord told Jeremiah that there are better things to come. Ask Me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come.

Off course there are times when you can get so overwhelmed and really don’t know what to say. Then that’s the time to say nothing. Put your phone off or turn the ringer off and like Peter, take a good nap (Acts 12:6) till you are able to get a good perspective of the situation.

Beloved, you have got to turn off the wrong voices to hear the right Voice. The Lord knows exactly what He is doing… For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for Me wholeheartedly, you will find Me (Jeremiah 29:11-13 NLT).

When the baby was eight days old, they all came for the circumcision ceremony. They wanted to name him Zechariah, after his father. But Elizabeth said, “No! His name is John!” “What?” they exclaimed. “There is no one in all your family by that name.” So they used gestures to ask the baby’s father what he wanted to name him. He motioned for a writing tablet, and to everyone’s surprise he wrote, “His name is John.” (Luke 1:59-63 NLT)

Beloved, in preparation for a women’s conference coming up later on today, we have been meditating on the story of Zechariah and Elizabeth who were promised in their old age that they would have a child. Each day, we were given specific verses from this story to focus on and it’s really been a blessing. However, there was something that was sent out about our feature text that really caught my attention which was; “DO NOT ALLOW PEOPLE TO DICTATE YOUR GOD-GIVEN VISION”.

Beloved, we all know this story very well. Zechariah and Elizabeth who were childless all their lives until one day they had a special visitation from the Lord. We are told that… While Zechariah was in the sanctuary, an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing to the right of the incense altar. Zechariah was shaken and overwhelmed with fear when he saw him. But the angel said, “Don’t be afraid, Zechariah! God has heard your prayer. Your wife, Elizabeth, will give you a son, and YOU ARE TO NAME HIM JOHN (Luke 1:11-13 NLT).

The angel of the Lord gave them specific instructions to name the child John but the people around them thought they knew better. Call him Zechariah, after his father, they said, but Elizabeth was bold and courageous enough to say “NO! HIS NAME IS JOHN!” That’s the name the Lord gave us. She had to stand her grounds and protect what the Lord had given her regardless of the people’s reasonable arguments and thank God, her husband was able to speak up for her.

Beloved, this is why we have been advised to make sure we know God for ourselves and stick to what He tells and shows us. We are never to allow people to contaminate our promise by calling it what it’s not. Don’t allow people to call it what they called your father because there is no one in all your family by the name you want to call it. In other words, don’t allow people to push you down the path of what your father did because that’s what’s familiar to them. Rather, you are to hold on to the specific vision the Lord gave you. Don’t modify it to fit people’s idea of what it should be like, and like we were told as we meditated on this Scripture; “make sure that it’s your voice that prophesies over it. Don’t wait for another person to speak over it because they may not have the same vision as you. Call it by its divine name, for Elizabeth, his name was ‘John’”.

Then Moses raised his hand and struck the rock twice with the staff, and water gushed out. So the entire community and their livestock drank their fill. But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust me enough to demonstrate my holiness to the people of Israel, you will not lead them into the land I am giving them!” (Numbers 20:11-12 NLT)

Beloved, do you know that one of the things that keep people stuck is to keep doing things in a particular way just because that’s what they are used to? However, you will always miss what the Lord wants to do when you go with your experience rather than divine revelation. In our feature text, Moses goes with what he knows (Exodus 17:6) rather than‎ what he’s told that’s why he hit the rock instead of speaking to it and the lesson here is just because it worked for you before doesn’t mean that’s how the Lord wants you to do it time around. Just because you were right before doesn’t mean you are right this time.

One thing I noticed about King David was that he would always ask the Lord; Lord should I?

For example… the Philistines went and made a raid on the Valley of Rephaim. And DAVID INQUIRED OF GOD, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” The Lord said to him, “Go up, for I will deliver them into your hand.” (1 Chronicles 14:9-10 NKJV)

But then on another occasion… the Philistines once again made a raid on the valley. Therefore DAVID INQUIRED AGAIN OF GOD, and God said to him, “You shall not go up after them; circle around them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees. And it shall be, when you hear a sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall go out to battle, for God has gone out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.” (1 Chronicles 14:13-16 (NKJV)

Beloved, we can see that David made no assumptions. He didn’t go with his past experience. He didn’t say, well, after all, I’ve defeated these people before so I will go ahead and fight like before. If he had done that he would have missed the Lord’s new strategy.

So, how many opportunities have you missed because you think you know it all? Could the fact that you are too invested in your opinion be the ‎reason why you are still where you are today?

Today, the Lord’s says… “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?… (Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV). I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye (Psalm 32:8 NKJV). Your own ears will hear Him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left (Isaiah 30:21 NLT).

“‘Relax, Daniel,’ he continued, ‘don’t be afraid. From the moment you decided to humble yourself to receive understanding, your prayer was heard, and I set out to come to you. But I was waylaid by the angel-prince of the kingdom of Persia and was delayed for a good three weeks. But then Michael, one of the chief angel-princes, intervened to help me. I left him there with the prince of the kingdom of Persia. And now I’m here to help you understand what will eventually happen to your people. The vision has to do with what’s ahead.’ (Daniel 10:12-14 MSG)

Beloved, I have come to realise that one of the greatest tactics used by the enemy against one’s destiny is that of confusion. Oh, how the devil loves it when you can’t see your way through and don’t have clarity about your future or next move.

The prayer and fasting of Daniel is a well-known story in the Bible. We are told that there was a time Daniel waited on the Lord and when an angel finally appeared to him with an answer to his prayers, he revealed to Daniel that he was supposed to have been there sooner but he got waylaid by the prince of Persia. So, the prince of Persia waylaid Daniels answer but the question is what was Daniel praying for and why did the devil not want him to receive an answer?

Beloved, the angel of the Lord told Daniel in our feature text that… FROM THE MOMENT YOU DECIDED TO HUMBLE YOURSELF TO RECEIVE UNDERSTANDING…

This lets me know that Daniel was praying for understanding but the devil didn’t want him to receive understanding. So, you can just imagine that the enemy would rather have you ignorant or confused. The opposite of understanding is misunderstanding and with misunderstanding comes misinterpretation. For some people, it just means they remain stagnant but the devil is a liar.

Daniel knew the importance of getting understanding and that’s why he tarried in a place of prayer and fasting until he received the answer he was looking for.

Apostle Paul (used to be known as Saul) was another person that prayed that the scales in his eyes be removed because he couldn’t see clearly. He prayed and… Ananias went and found Saul. He laid his hands on him and said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road, has sent me so that you might regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Instantly something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he regained his sight… (Acts 9:17-18 NLT)

Beloved, there is a war going on for your understanding. The enemy would rather have you blinded but you have to refuse to be confused. Do not be ignorant of the devices of satan (2 Corinthians 2:11). Remember… “The beginning of wisdom is: Get [skillful and godly] wisdom [it is preeminent]! And with all your acquiring, get understanding [actively seek spiritual discernment, mature comprehension, and logical interpretation] (Proverbs 4:7 AMP).

14. May 2017 · Comments Off on USING THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT · Categories: God's Plan, Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ, Relationship, Revelation, Spiritual Growth

…TAKE THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:17 NLT).

Beloved, the Word of God is a great weapon to fight against the attacks of the enemy and how to use it can be best illustrated using Jesus as a perfect example to follow.

How did Jesus overcome satan when led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by him? You see this in Matthew 4:3-11 (NIV);

“If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “IT IS WRITTEN…”
“If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down…” Jesus answered him, “IT IS ALSO WRITTEN…”
“…All this I will give you, if you will bow down and worship me.” Jesus said to him… FOR IT IS WRITTEN: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.’”

Jesus used ‘IT IS WRITTEN’ and Satan left him after that. He is the Son of God… He knows what He’s talking about.

In the above scenario, it’s important to note that satan also knows the word of God. See what he said to Jesus… “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. FOR IT IS WRITTEN: “‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’” Jesus answered him, “IT IS ALSO WRITTEN: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” Matthew 4:6-7 (NIV)

Satan knows the word of God but he was using the text to manipulate Jesus; to get Him to do what he wanted Him to do. This should be a warning for those that either use Scriptures to manipulate people or are being manipulated by people. Satan is an expert at manipulating Scriptures so you must also equip yourself with ‘IT IS ALSO WRITTEN’.

Now the question for you is how many ‘IT IS WRITTEN’ do you know? I once heard of a lady that slept with the Bible under her pillow because she was having so many attacks at night and when she experienced an attack, she would pull it out and hold it up against whatever demon she was facing hoping to scare them away. Isn’t it funny how we tend to treat the Bible like the power is in the Book itself? It’s the Word of God contained in it that is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword… (Hebrews 4:12) and until you get acquainted with the Word Himself, allowing the Holy Spirit to minister to you, it remains just a Book to you.

Beloved, using the sword of the Spirit involves continually studying and meditating on the word for revelation so you are able to confront the enemy with… “This is what my Daddy says…”

Demons are petrified of Christians who know the power they have in Jesus Christ, the living Word. Don’t you think it’s time for you to wake up? It is my prayer that you start to TAKE UP YOUR SWORD and pierce the enemy where it hurts and as you do so, may you win every battle thrown your way.

09. May 2017 · Comments Off on LEARN HOW TO APPLY THE TRUTH‏ · Categories: God's Plan, Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ, Revelation, Thoughts, Truth
…TRUTH, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. LEARN HOW TO APPLY THEM. You’ll need them throughout your life… (Ephesians 6:13-18 MSG).

Beloved, we are privileged to have the full armour of God as a complete weapon against satan but we must learn how to develop and apply them so we can stand firm when he attacks. The first one is TRUTH… putting on the belt of truth buckled around your waist. A Roman soldier’s belt secured his armour in their proper place and supported his sword. In the same way, the truth should secure all your armour in place.

With spiritual warfare, the mind is the main battlefield. The battle of the mind takes place when the enemy attacks your thoughts about the truth of God, yourself and your relationship with Him. Many people have been fed with so many lies by satan and over the years, this has formed mental strongholds. But Jesus said… You will know the Truth and the Truth will set you free (John 8: 32).

You develop spiritual muscles in this area by daily absorbing Scriptural truth. What is the truth about God and my situation? I like how Neil Anderson of freedom in Christ put it. He said… “If what we think does not reflect the truth, then what we feel does not reflect reality”.

Beloved, I’m thinking of Jacob. At one time… Jacob exclaimed, “You are robbing me of my children! Joseph is gone! Simeon is gone! And now you want to take Benjamin, too. Everything is going against me!” (Genesis 42:36 NLT). However, we know that wasn’t the reality. For one, Joseph was not dead but the sad thing was that Jacob had already decided years ago… “I will go to my grave mourning for my son,”…(Genesis 37:35 NLT) and that’s how he lived his life until he found out the truth.

Unfortunately, many of us have been fed many lies about our lives and for such a mind that has been brainwashed with lies for so many years, developing spiritual muscles would involve renewing your mind with God’s truth. Many even believe God doesn’t love them but you have to get reject that lie and by continually telling yourself that God loves me… That’s why He sent His Son to die for me. This may take some time but Christians who fill their mind with God’s truth win spiritual battles against the mind. They… take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).

Beloved, you also need to rely heavily on the help of the Holy Spirit to replace every lie with the truth. Jesus said… But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth)… (John 16:13 AMP) Today, I pray that you allow Him teach you truth that would break any stronghold formed in your mind and as you do so, may you win every battle thrown your way.

David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, BUT I COME AGAINST YOU IN THE NAME OF THE LORD ALMIGHTY, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied (1 Samuel 17:45 NIV).

Beloved, when we pay close attention to this story of David and Goliath, we would realise that the story isn’t so much about David and Goliath but about the contrast between David, the to-be king of Israel and Saul, the current king of Israel at the time. It is a story about how differently they handled the threat of Goliath. It is about the negative example of Saul, the type of king the people asked for that is filled with lack of trust in God, fear, timidity and avoidance of responsibility and the contrasted positive example of David, the type of king that God wanted which is filled with total reliance on God and carrying out the will of God. This is why… after removing Saul, He made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, A MAN AFTER MY OWN HEART; HE WILL DO EVERYTHING I WANT HIM TO DO.’(Acts 13:22 NIV)

Beloved, this brings me to the question… which one are you? David or Saul? Let me make it easier for you. Are you totally reliant on God and doing His will? If you are then you are not afraid of any obstacle that comes your way. You are not timid and won’t run away from any responsibility the Lord has entrusted you to do. YOU WOULD DO EVERYTHING THE LORD WANTS YOU TO DO. This is because you are 100 per cent confident that the Lord is the one that would do it and that you would overcome any obstacle IN THE NAME OF THE LORD ALMIGHTY.

On the other hand, are you filled with fear? Are you more reliant on your own abilities and resources than on the Lord? That is, immediately you are confronted with an obstacle, you shrink and go into hiding because you see it as bigger than you. Or when the Lord gives you an assignment, you immediately look to your resources and think there’s no way that’s possible. You tend to look to the people around you rather than call on THE NAME OF THE LORD ALMIGHTY. And worse of all, you rather please people than please God.

Beloved, which one are you really? David or Saul?

King David was the one that said… some trust in and boast of chariots and some of horses, BUT WE WILL TRUST IN AND BOAST OF THE NAME OF THE LORD OUR GOD (Psalm 20:7 AMP). You too should be able to say… I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.] (Philippians 4:13 AMP)

The woman said to Him, I know that Messiah is coming, He Who is called the Christ (the Anointed One); and when He arrives, HE WILL TELL US EVERYTHING WE NEED TO KNOW AND MAKE IT CLEAR TO US. Jesus said to her, I WHO NOW SPEAK WITH YOU AM HE (John 4:25-26 AMPC).

I WHO NOW SPEAK WITH YOU AM HE…

Beloved, I have always shared on this forum that there was a time I never used to take my Bible seriously and when I told someone that I only started really taking it Bible seriously and felt the need to read it daily only about a few years again, they asked me why. I told them that Jesus started to speak to me through what I was reading. The Scriptures started becoming alive to me.

Before then… I tell you… it was a real struggle to grasp the whole thing but I remember one time when there was this person that used to complain over everything every time they came around me and that used to trigger the same thing in me… I started complaining as well. But then as I opened my Bible, the following passage jumped at me … Then the foreign rabble who were traveling with the Israelites began to crave the good things of Egypt. AND THE PEOPLE OF ISRAEL ALSO BEGAN TO COMPLAIN… (Numbers 11:4 NLT).

I couldn’t get pass this text… I kept on reading it over and over again. Then I went on to study what was the result of their complaining which was not good.

Hmmm… During the exact same time, the Lord started to speak to me about being careful about the people you travel with through Abraham and lot’s story… Now [in Haran] the Lord said to Abram, Go for yourself [for your own advantage] away from your country, from your relatives and your father’s house, to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation… So Abram departed, as the Lord had directed him; AND LOT [HIS NEPHEW] WENT WITH HIM… (Genesis 12:1-4 AMPC)

HIS NEPHEW WENT WITH HIM… This brought conflict and strife between them and Abraham was going round in circles and could not hear from God until they separated (Genesis 13:8-17). This was a great revelation for me and it was my clue to make difficult but wise separations and later, the Lord started to show me why.

Beloved, every time you open your Bible to read it, know that it’s Jesus speaking…. And the WORD (Christ) became flesh… and tabernacled (fixed His tent of flesh, lived awhile) among us… (John 1:14 AMPC)

The Samaritan woman had questions and was waiting for Christ to answer them but then He revealed Himself… I AM HE… THE ONE SPEAKING TO YOU… the One you’ve just had a conversation with. When you start to see your Bible like that, it makes all the difference. Someone said your Bible is the only book you find that the Author is there, present with you, speaking to you as you read it… So, what is Jesus saying to you? You may never know until you start reading it
