For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love you have demonstrated for His name, in having served and continuing to serve the saints… (Hebrews 6:10-11 NET)

Beloved, we know the story of Mordecai. We are told that he was… held in high esteem by his many fellow Jews, because he worked for the good of his people and spoke up for the welfare of all the Jews (Esther 10:3 NIV).

This verse summarises the conclusion of Mordecai’s story but after reading his experience, I cannot help but wonder what must have gone through his mind as he looked back and reflected over his journey. what would he consider his highlights and lowlights? What moments would he look back on and say… Lord I thank You for this or that. Perhaps he would say I’m glad that I took Esther in and looked after her like my own when her parents died. If you were in Mordecai’s shoes, what would you especially thank God for?

While you’re thinking about it, I would tell you mine. If I were Mordecia, reflecting back on my experience, I would lie down flat on the floor and say… Lord I thank You for not allowing King Xerxes reward me the time I uncovered a conspiracy to assassinate him (Esther 2:21-23). I thank you for the delay because though my recognition didn’t come when I expected it, it came when I most needed it. Years had gone by and it felt like I was forgotten but just at the right time when my enemies where plotting to kill me, you resurrected my file and it saved my life.

His enemies said…“Have a pole set up, reaching to a height of fifty cubits, and ask the king in the morning to have Mordecai impaled on it. Then go with the king to the banquet and enjoy yourself.” This suggestion delighted Haman, and he had the pole set up (Esther 5:14 NIV) … but… that night the king could not sleep; so he ordered the book of the chronicles, the record of his reign, to be brought in and read to him. It was found recorded there that Mordecai had exposed Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s officers who guarded the doorway, who had conspired to assassinate King Xerxes. “What honor and recognition has Mordecai received for this?” the king asked. “Nothing has been done for him,” his attendants answered (Esther 6.1-3 NIV).

Really? Do you really mean nothing has been done for him? Okay, I’ll tell you what I would do. Let’s make this fun. Bring me Mordecai’s plotters. Let them decide his reward. So instead of the death sentence that Haman had plotted that day… he robed Mordecai, and led him on horseback through the city streets, proclaiming before him, “This is what is done for the man the king delights to honor!” (Esther 6:11 NIV)

Brilliant!

Beloved, many times we get frustrated over God’s delays. We think we’ve been forgotten but the word today is… Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and he will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV).

But without faith it is impossible to [walk with God and] please Him, for whoever comes [near] to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that HE REWARDS those who [earnestly and diligently] seek Him (Hebrews 11:6 AMP).

Beloved, if you have ever set up a PayPal payment system on a website and tried to test whether it works by paying yourself; you know you would get an error message which goes along the lines of ‘you can’t pay yourself’ or ‘you can’t send money to yourself’. This has happened to me before and it can be frustrating when after putting in all the work to set up the system, you now have to rely on someone else for that final step to pay some money using the system just to confirm that the system works properly.

Our feature text talks about God’s reward system for those that have earnestly and diligently sought Him. The word ‘reward’ here text translates to mean ‘one who pays wages’. What this means is that God is the one who pays the wages of those who seek Him. However, what many have opted to do is try to pay themselves because they are tired of waiting on the Lords payment but that would get you nowhere.

I am thinking of Abraham who left everything he had behind to earnestly and diligently seek the Lord and after waiting on the Lord for many years, his wife and himself decided to pay themselves. The Bible says… Sarai said to Abram, “The Lord has prevented me from having children. Go and sleep with my servant. Perhaps I can have children through her.” And Abram agreed with Sarai’s proposal (Genesis 16:2 NLT).

Beloved, we know the story. We are still suffering the aftermaths of Abraham and Sarah’s poor decision. That’s often what happens when we get frustrated from waiting on God to reward us for our act of faith and for some, the reason everything you try to do on your own fails is because like the PayPal system lets you know when you try to pay yourself; the Lord is letting you know that “you can’t pay yourself”.

Beloved, I don’t know what you have been seeking the Lord for but no matter how long it is taking, you must believe that the Lord is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him so… Let us not grow weary or become discouraged in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give in (Galatians 6:9 AMP)… For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown for His name in ministering to [the needs of] the saints (God’s people), as you do (Hebrews 6:10 AMP).

Beloved, God’s payment system works perfectly. He is on His way with your pay cheque and it’s bound to be a fat one.

So Ruth went out to gather grain behind the harvesters. And as it happened, she found herself working in a field that belonged to Boaz, the relative of her father-in-law, Elimelech. While she was there, Boaz arrived from Bethlehem and greeted the harvesters. “The Lord be with you!” he said. “The Lord bless you!” the harvesters replied. Then Boaz asked his foreman, “WHO IS THAT YOUNG WOMAN OVER THERE? WHO DOES SHE BELONG TO?” (Ruth 2:3-5 NLT)

Beloved, the first thing to notice about our feature text is that someone stood out amongst the crowd and we all know that when you immediately start to ask about a person’s background, they must have left an impression on you. That person happened to be Ruth… The foreman replied, “She is the young woman from Moab who came back with Naomi. (Ruth 2:6 NIV).

What’s interesting here is that Boaz had already heard about Ruth and her reputation was already impressive but then for her presence to also stand out is amazing. Oh so she’s the one everyone’s being talking about? I’m not surprised then. Beloved, that is called living up to your reputation.

Boaz asked… WHO IS THAT YOUNG WOMAN OVER THERE? WHO DOES SHE BELONG TO? and they replied “She is the young woman from Moab who came back with Naomi…

Beloved, that’s a loaded statement. She is the one that had a bad experience in life but chose not to allow it hold her back. Rather, she made a decision to leave everything about her past behind and follow the Lord wholeheartedly. That’s what this statement is really saying.

Beloved, tough times are times that could easily tempt us away from God but do you know that surrendering everything to Him and allowing Him work in and through you can only lead to people asking… WHO DOES THAT PERSON BELONG TO?

Ruth immediately tapped into God’s initial provision for her (Leviticus 19:9-10, Deuteronomy 24:19-22). But she had to take the initiative and make some moves and she was hopeful. We are told that… One day Ruth… said to Naomi, “Let me go out into the harvest fields to pick up the stalks of grain left behind by anyone who is kind enough to let me do it.” Naomi replied, “All right, my daughter, go ahead.” (Ruth 2:2 NLT). We are also told that she was also hardworking and used the time wisely. They foreman said… She came into the field and has remained here from morning till now, except for a short rest in the shelter.” (Ruth 2:7 NIV) I’m also sure she did everything with a good attitude.

Beloved, we may not know it but how we carry ourselves especially when going through our wilderness seasons matter a lot because we never know who might just be watching. Boaz was watching Ruth and we don’t know for how long. You never know who the Lord has positioned to watch you.

SELAH!

Some of those at the table were indignant. “Why waste such expensive perfume?” they asked. “It could have been sold for a year’s wages and the money given to the poor!” So they scolded her harshly. But Jesus replied, “Leave her alone. Why criticize her for doing such a good thing to me? You will always have the poor among you, and you can help them whenever you want to. But you will not always have me. She has done what she could and has anointed my body for burial ahead of time. I TELL YOU THE TRUTH, WHEREVER THE GOOD NEWS IS PREACHED THROUGHOUT THE WORLD, THIS WOMAN’S DEED WILL BE REMEMBERED AND DISCUSSED.” (Mark 14: 4-9 NLT)

I TELL YOU THE TRUTH, WHEREVER THE GOOD NEWS IS PREACHED THROUGHOUT THE WORLD, THIS WOMAN’S DEED WILL BE REMEMBERED AND DISCUSSED…

Beloved, I hope I haven’t managed to bore you the whole of this week but finally, we are taking a look at the reward of this woman whose actions caught the attention of Jesus and today, we are looking at it from the response that Jesus gave to the naysayers in the gospel according to Mark.

Mary in this story probably had no idea at the time she made a decision to do what she did that it had great significance and I bet she must have been very surprised at Jesus’ response. She had no idea the impact her sacrifice and worship was to have on Jesus but not just Him, there’s also the impact for the future generations to come and this is something we are still talking about today.

This tells us that what we are willing to do today could have impact on the future generations and whenever something has such a great impact on the future, it normally costs the one making the sacrifice.

People that end up making history would always tell you that there was a big price to pay but let’s hear what else Jesus had to say. He said… she has done what she could‎. Beloved, we are back to the matter of the heart again. Jesus was more or less saying I know the effort she had to put in to go do what she did and she did it with her whole heart.

Beloved, have you ever found yourself saying I did what I had to do? It’s a case where you know that desperate times call for desperate measures.

It was a costly sacrifice but it paid off and because her motives where right, her sacrifice wasn’t contaminated. It was all about bringing about the will of God to come to pass and ultimately advancing the kingdom ‎of God.

Beloved, is this what giving attention to? Why not begin to make your worship time be more about asking the Lord for His plans for your future… for the future of your children… for the future of the next generation… and whatever He impresses on your heart to do, do it.

Everyone will hate you because of your allegiance to Me. But if you’re faithful until the end, you will be rescued (Mark 13:13 VOICE).

Recently, someone was sharing of how they found themselves in some very serious mess. They did some things with some very serious repercussions that has the potential to damage their reputation and they just didn’t know how to handle it? All they kept saying was “what will people say when they hear this? This would ruin me and my reputation” And then, they started to come up all the possible responses they would get from people. So I had to ask them “is this what you are already thinking about yourself?” You know when you find yourself telling people that there’s nothing you can think of me or tell me that I haven’t already told myself.

They went on and on about their predicament but what caught my attention was when they said “If I hadn’t got to this stage in my work with the Lord, then I know exactly what to do to fix this and make it all go away but now is so different. They went on to say “what makes it worse is that some loved ones have threatened to cut me off if I followed through with my decision. I’m so confused. What do I do?”

So, I firstly I said, “well, you got yourself into this mess in the first place and so you would have to face the consequences”.

Beloved, why don’t we always think of the consequences of our actions before we act? But like a friend said “sin has a way of making us look foolish” especially when we refuse to pay attention to the Lord’s warnings.

However, I then advised that they focus on building their relationship with Jesus because it’s going to be a long and probably lonely journey from now but as far as they ask the Lord for forgiveness and then decide to do things His way from now on, the Lord will ensure that He makes things right again.

Beloved, as I was reading our feature text, this case came to mind. Making the decision to be on the Lord’s side‎ and do things His way has its consequences. People may hate you and disagree with many of your decisions but you have to keep at it because THERE’S A REWARD FOR STAYING FAITHFUL TO THE END.

The other Scripture that came to mind was… when people make good choices, He is pleased; He even causes their enemies to live peacefully near them (Proverbs 16:7 VOICE).

Beloved, broken things can become blessed things if you let God do the mending. Regardless of where you are, you can always start all over by making decisions that please the Lord and then sit back as you watch Him fix the things around you and people that hate you.

And the people of Israel did as Moses had instructed; they asked the Egyptians for clothing and articles of silver and gold. The Lord caused the Egyptians to look favorably on the Israelites, and they gave the Israelites whatever they asked for. So they stripped the Egyptians of their wealth! (Exodus 12:35-36 NLT).

So, for many years the Israelites were under bondage. This happened until the Lord stepped in to rescue them but the Lord didn’t just rescue them, He made sure they didn’t go empty handed. The Lord ensured that the Israelites were paid for all the years they lost to the Egyptians. There was a great wealth transfer that day; enough for them and their children and children’s children but what was the first thing the Israelites did with the gold and silver they were given?

Hanging around in the wilderness without any direction… Aaron said, “Take the gold rings from the ears of your wives and sons and daughters, and bring them to me.” All the people took the gold rings from their ears and brought them to Aaron. Then Aaron took the gold, melted it down, and molded it into the shape of a calf… (Exodus 32:2-4 NLT)

We know the story… they worshiped the golden calf and the partying began… The people got up early the next morning to sacrifice burnt offerings and peace offerings. After this, they celebrated with feasting and drinking, and they indulged in pagan revelry (Exodus 32:6 NLT).

Beloved, the message here is simple; when you come out with silver and gold without purpose in mind, you will build a golden calf to worship. SELAH: PAUSE AND CALMLY THINK ABOUT THAT!

It was only later that… the Lord said to Moses, “Tell the people of Israel to bring me their sacred offerings… Here is a list of sacred offerings you may accept from them: gold, silver, and bronze…“Have the people of Israel build me a holy sanctuary so I can live among them (Exodus 25:1-3, 8 NLT).

Beloved, I’m sure we love when the Lord says… I will compensate you for the years that the swarming locust has eaten… (Joel 2:25 AMP). It’s exciting just thinking of how the Lord can restore everything you’ve lost to the enemy but without a purpose in mind, you too may just end up building a golden calf to worship.

It’s a new year and I’ve heard people say, “oh… This is my year of jubilee!” “This is my year of restoration!” “This is my year of wealth Transfer!” but the Lord is challenging you today… Why do you want to be blessed? Could I have a purpose in mind for you?

SELAH: PAUSE AND CALMLY THINK ABOUT THAT… and then perhaps pray this way: Our Father in heaven, may Your name be honored, may Your kingdom come, may Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily… (Matthew 6:9-11) direction.

Don’t lay your hand on the boy or do anything to harm him. I know now that you respect the one True God and will be loyal to Him and follow His commands, because you were willing to give up your son, your only son, to Me (Genesis 22:12 VOICE).

We are familiar with the story of Abraham… After a period of time, God decided to put Abraham to the test… Abraham!… Take your son, your only son Isaac whom I know you love deeply, and go to the land of Moriah. When you get there, I want you to offer Isaac to Me as a burnt offering on one of the mountains. I will show you which one. ABRAHAM DID AS HE WAS TOLD. Early in the morning he got up, saddled his donkey, and taking two of his trusted servants with him and his son Isaac, he cut the wood for the burnt offering and traveled to the place God had told him about (Genesis 22:1-3 VOICE).

“There would be a marked time of sacrifice on every road of divine purpose. God will ask Abraham to willingly offer to Him the heir of his own body, Isaac. But there are some of us that won’t give God all of us because there’s a part of us that we are unwilling to let go off. However, it’s your total release that will bring God’s total release into your life”.

Going through something similar, someone said the Lord gave them the above words and I knew He was speaking to me. They went on to say that, “if you don’t do the right thing when God asks you for that release, then you may lose out because releasing what’s in your hand will release what’s in the Lord’s hand.

ABRAHAM DID AS HE WAS TOLD… His faith was on another level at this stage… He concluded that God was capable of raising him [Isaac] from the dead… (Hebrews 11:19 VOICE). But the Lord didn’t want to take Isaac. All He was looking for was the total release of Abraham’s hand and heart and like someone said “don’t treat your SEED like it’s your HARVEST. Abraham’s harvest was descendants that will be as many as the stars. Isaac was just a seed.

The Lord told Abraham… “Because you have done what I asked and were willing to give up your son, your only son, I will reaffirm My covenant of blessing to you and your family. I will make sure your descendants are as many as the stars of the heavens and the grains of sand on the shores. I reaffirm My earlier promises that your descendants will possess the lands and sit in the gates of their enemies, and from your descendants all the peoples of the earth will discover true blessing. ALL THIS IS BECAUSE YOU HAVE OBEYED MY VOICE (Genesis 22:16-18 VOICE).

ALL THIS IS BECAUSE YOU HAVE OBEYED MY VOICE… Again, there’s that word ‘obedience’. It keeps coming up…

…you know that these troubles test your faith, and this will give you patience [perserverance; endurance]. [And] Let your patience [perserverance; endurance] show itself perfectly in what you do [HAVE ITS FULL EFFECT; FINISH ITS WORK]. Then you will be perfect and complete [mature and whole; or completely mature] and will have everything you need [lack nothing] (James 1:3-4 EXB).

I remember almost getting frustrated because I felt the Lord was taking too long in answering my prayers but then He said “if you are able to endure the process, you’ll get to that place where you lack nothing. Immediately, our feature text came alive like never before… “Your endurance is important because the Lord is working out something in you so that you will be complete”.

I remember someone sharing of the time his pregnant wife went to the doctor telling him “get this baby out of me now because I can’t take it any more”. However, after calming her down, the doctor explained to her that if the baby comes out now, some of its vital organs wouldn’t be fully developed but if she could just endure for a few more weeks, then she would give birth to a healthy baby that has the chance of surviving. Hmmm… Enough said. This woman went back home and was able to wait till the baby was ready to come out and that was two extra weeks on top of what the doctor gave her and she gave birth to a healthy baby.

Beloved, this is what our text is saying… having the ability to endure the process so we can give birth to healthy babies that lack nothing.

James said… Brothers and sisters [fellow believers], follow the example of the prophets who spoke for [in the name of] the Lord. They suffered many hard things, but they were patient [endured]… We say they are happy [or we consider them blessed] because they did not give up [endured; persevered]. You have heard about Job’s patience [or endurance; perseverance], and you know the Lord’s purpose for him in the end. You know the Lord is full of mercy and is kind [compassionate] (James 5:10-11 EXB).

Job suffered and please don’t get it twisted, it wasn’t funny at all but he completed the course and you know what he got in the end… the Lord restored his fortunes. In fact, the Lord gave him twice as much as before… So the Lord blessed Job in the second half of his life even more than in the beginning… (Job 42:10, 12 NLT)

What about Jesus… Because of the joy awaiting Him, He endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now He is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne (Hebrews 12:2 NLT).

Beloved, please endure the process because… after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you (1 Peter 5:10 ESV).

God bless you

23. September 2015 · Comments Off on PATIENT ENDURANCE IS WHAT YOU NEED NOW‏ · Categories: Faith, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Patience, Perseverance, Reward, Trusting God

…do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that He has promised (Hebrews10.35-36 NLT).

Have you noticed that when you receive a fresh word from the Lord concerning His will for your life that you receive it with all confidence? Your expectations are very high. You hold on to the word you received expecting to see the manifestation almost immediately; give and take a few days because it doesn’t always help when we are flooded those messages that say 24/48hrs or 3/7days to see your breakthrough. Off course, if the Lord has specifically said so then it’s bound to happen in that timeframe but the point I am trying to make is that as a result of these time based messages, we have this expectation and confidence that whatever‎ the Lord has promised would happen almost immediately. However, what do you do when 7 days goes by and then days turn into months and then years and nothing happens?

Hmmm…. Your confidence starts to drop until if not careful, you become like the Shunammite Woman who said, please, please, please, don’t just deceive me like that. Elisha told her…. “About this time next year you shall embrace a son.” And she said, “No, my lord. Man of God, do not lie to your maidservant!” (2 Kings 4:16 NKJV) Hmmm… That’s because… Hope deferred makes the heart sick (Proverbs 13:12 NKJV).

However, I was telling someone recently that ‎there’s a long road that those that have had mind blowing testimonies of the manifestation of the great promises of the Lord sometimes have to walk down and that road is called ‘PATIENT ENDURANCE’ road.

Trust me when I tell you that there would be a million and one signs on that road inviting you to cut corners or give up and go back because there’s got to be something else that’s easier and less painful than waiting on the Lord’s will for your life but please don’t give up your confident trust in the Lord because there’s great reward ahead of you. Remember the Lord… is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6 NKJV).

Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that He has promised.

Be confident in the fact that that word that the Lord has spoken concerning you is going to happen… The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever (Isaiah 40:8 NKJV).

God bless you

16. September 2015 · Comments Off on WHO CAN SEPARATE YOU FROM THE LOVE OF GOD?‏ · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Love, Mind, Rejection, Relationship, Reward, Thoughts, Words, Youth

WHO SHALL SEPARATE US FROM THE LOVE OF CHRIST? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? …. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:35, 38-39 NKJV).

I remember someone saying that we should notice that ‘YOU’ are not on the above list. That made me think. Now, its not that you can stop God from loving you but do you know that you can prevent yourself from receiving His love and what He wants to give you because you are always thinking you don’t deserve it?

Unfortunately, I learnt while studying counselling that this feeling of ‘conditional’ love and acceptance happens to us early in life and over time, our self-concept is formed by the ‘conditions ‎of worth’ put on us by others. Most people want to be accepted and loved and look to others to get this and if we’ve received unconditional acceptance early, then we grow up to accept love easily.

As babies, we are born into the world not having to conform to the expectations of others. Babies don’t have to earn love. If you are hungry or need your nappy changed, you just cry and expect someone to attend to you. If these needs are met, that’s when we develop a fundamentally important feeling of being loved and wanted. We feel that we are loveable just because we exist (unconditional love). The message your mind receives tends to be: “I will love you no matter what you do”.

However, things change as we grow up and start getting told off. Over time, as we start seeing the reactions of others that certain things are not acceptable, we begin to adjust and develop a self-concept in response to the expectations of others.

The message your mind receives now tends to be: “I will love you if…”

For example, a parent might say I will kiss you and read you a story if you stop having a tantrum and go straight to bed. Our mind processes that as a ‘condition of worth’. Mummy would love me and reward me if I’m good. Over time, love and approval becomes increasingly ‘conditional’ so we tend to adjust our behaviour to meet the conditions that bring love which then sets the pattern for ways we behave in relationships with other people.

Unfortunately, we bring this mind-set into our relationship with God and it takes a lot of renewing of the mind to know that God loves you regardless of what you do… God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8 NKJV).

His love for you is based on HIS CHARACTER (1 John 4:8) and not what you do so again I ask… WHO CAN SEPARATE YOU FROM THE LOVE OF GOD?‏

God bless you
