Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do (Psalm 1:1-3 NLT).

Beloved, have you ever had those days when you just feel like you need to read your word out of duty‎? Those days when you think you are doing God a favour by reading the word for the day? Those days when you just read the word so you can tick it off your To Do list? Well, if that has ever been your experience, permit me to ask you to take a minute right now and say this short prayer; “Lord, Your word says… For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him (Philippians 2:13 NLT)… so in 2017, I am asking that You give me the desire to delight in Your word, meditating on it day and night because I realise that that’s where my fruitfulness lies”.

Beloved, the book of Joshua says… Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do (Joshua 1:8 NLT). Let this be your reality this year – where you know and you know and you know that your prosperity and success depends on meditating on the Word of God. Job said… I have not departed from His commands, but have TREASURED HIS WORDS MORE THAN DAILY FOOD (Job 23:12 NLT). While David said… Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path (Psalm 119:105 NLT).

I started reading the book of Genesis and throughout the first chapter, all you will hear is… “Then God said, let there be…”. We are then told that… By faith [that is, with an inherent trust and enduring confidence in the power, wisdom and goodness of God] we understand that the worlds (universe, ages) were framed and created [formed, put in order, and equipped for their intended purpose] BY THE WORD OF GOD, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible (Hebrews 11:3 AMP).

… BY THE WORD OF GOD… Beloved, you need to live by the word of God this year and nothing else. You must desire it like food and if you don’t have appetite, remember to ask the Lord to give you the desire to meditate on the word day and night… For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13 AMP).

… David and his men immediately set out for Jerusalem to take on the Jebusites, who lived in that country. But they said, “You might as well go home! Even the blind and the lame could keep you out. You can’t get in here!” THEY HAD CONVINCED THEMSELVES THAT DAVID COULDN’T BREAK THROUGH. BUT DAVID WENT RIGHT AHEAD and captured the fortress of Zion, known ever since as the City of David (2 Samuel 5:6-7 MSG).

Beloved, you probably know by now that the enemy have vowed to do all he can to prevent you from being who God has called you to be so would use all sorts of tactics to stop you but it will not work as far as you press on in Christ. We read about David who matched on and took what was his despite the enemy’s intimidation.

The NKJV says… NEVERTHELESS DAVID TOOK THE STRONGHOLD OF ZION… but what did he have to get rid of? It was … the lame and the blind, who are hated by David’s soul (2 Samuel 5:8 NKJV).

Zion (Jerusalem) became the centre of Israel’s spiritual life and David had to get rid of the lame and blind standing in his way so for you today, is there anything that has spiritually blinded or paralysed you that you need to overcome?

The text talks about stronghold and while this could be a physical situation, satan also builds mental strongholds in our minds which is defined as a mind-set impregnated with hopelessness that causes us to accept as unchangeable, situations that we know are contrary to the will of God. Because of reoccurring situations, past experiences, family background etc., we develop mind-sets that make us think defeating thoughts like “I’m hopeless, I’m cursed, I’m a failure…” Unfortunately, these presents a false view of God’s reality for your life.

Beloved, even the blind and the lame could keep you out… If your mind is clouded by satan’s smoke screen, it would prevent you from seeing things the way God desires you to see them so you must pull those strongholds down and… we use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:4-5 NLT).

Beloved, you are to use the truth in God’s word as a weapon to drive out these strongholds. You are not a failure; God always leads us into triumph (2 Corinthians 2:14). You are not hopeless… Christ in you is the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27). And you are not cursed because Christ redeemed you from the curse of the Law (Galatians 3:13-14)

Beloved, you’ve probably realised that I’ve been dealing with negative mind-sets and strongholds recently. This is because demolishing strongholds is the greatest breakthrough you can ever have so as you decide to be strengthened by God’s truth, I pray that you take hold of everything the Lord has for you.

He who states his case first seems right, until his rival comes and cross-examines him (Proverbs 18:17 AMPC).

Beloved, have you ever had to argue your case with either a smart, controlling or manipulative person? Well, I was listening to someone who’s quite a naturally smart guy say he gets even smarter during an argument. They said you know how you get so overwhelmed by an argument that you start to say dumb stuff? “Not me”, they said. They said when you are talking they are not listening but just waiting for you to finish so they can have their turn. They said they take their time to construct their words so that they can back you up in a corner‎. Do you know anyone like this or does this describe you?

As I was meditating on our feature text yesterday morning, the Holy Spirit began to minister to me about the different sides to a story. There’s always your side of the story and there’s always the other person’s side of the story but then there’s God’s side and we all have to get to that place where we are humble enough to allow His side prevail.

Personally, I don’t really like confrontations because my emotions get in the way and as a result, I’m not able to present my case properly. We all have our faults when it comes to making a case. We can use any tool just to win; be it blackmail, manipulation, intimidation etc. all because we want to win an argument. Hardly would you ever want to present a case that’s not in your favour but there’s always the other side and I like how the Message translation says… the first speech in a court case is always convincing—until the cross-examination starts!

And then, there’s always Gods side which may not be in your favour. Joshua asked the Angel of the Lord… “Are you for us or for our enemies?” “Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come… (Joshua 5:13-14 NIV)

Beloved, a person whose heart is right before God; one who’s not full of pride would always be open to stand corrected. They are willing to challenge the story they tell themselves. Could I be wrong? The Scriptures say… there is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death (Proverbs 14:12 NLT).

I remember telling someone that was trying to be a mediator between myself and my ex-husband that if I start to tell my own side of the story, there’s no way I won’t present my case in a way that favours me and makes me look good and I’m sure he would do the same so let God be the judge. The God who really knows the unadulterated truth of what’s going on. The God who doesn’t play favouritism (Romans 2:11). He would speak at last.

‎Abraham said… Should not the Judge of all the earth do what is right? (Genesis 18:25 NLT)

Beloved, who’s side of the story is really true?

Put the word into action. If you think hearing is what matters most, you are going to find you have been deceived. If some fail to do what God requires, it’s as if they forget the word as soon as they hear it. One minute they look in the mirror, and the next they forget who they are and what they look like. However, it is possible to open your eyes and take in the beautiful, perfect truth found in God’s law of liberty and live by it. If you pursue that path and actually do what God has commanded, then you will avoid the many distractions that lead to an amnesia of all true things and you will be blessed (James 1:22-25 VOICE).

Beloved, I recently listened to someone give a very good illustration of our feature text. He said imagine a situation where you stand in front of a mirror and even though you are wearing tattered clothes, when you look into the mirror, you see yourself properly dressed. You take your eyes off the mirror, look back at yourself and you see tattered clothes but when you remove your eyes from yourself and look into the mirror again, you see that you are properly dressed. They then asked the question; “which image would you rather look at?” I bet everyone in their right mind would say the image they see in the mirror. I know that’s the image I want to see and that’s the image that God’s word shows us.

The word of God shows you who you truly are and as you continue to look into His word and put the word into action, in no time, the tattered image you see in the physical would eventually line up with the perfect image you see in your mirror.

Beloved, I’ve noticed that we have many frustrated Christians; people that have been Christians for years but are frustrated because they don’t seem to see things change for them. However, last year, I made a decision to put everything aside and go after the God of the Bible and do exactly what He says to me because something wasn’t adding up and God is not a liar (Numbers 23:19). The journey started rough but I can say that this has certainly been my most blessed year; something that’s hard to explain just yet.

According to my Bible notes, “God the Father is the giver of all things and is looking for every opportunity to bless us. But many people have difficulty trusting and receiving good things, even when those things come from God. The problem is that we not only have trouble trusting God’s work in our lives, but WE ALSO DON’T ALWAYS RESPOND TO GOD’S VOICE. PEOPLE OFTEN HEAR THE SCRIPTURES BUT DON’T REALLY LISTEN. PEOPLE STORE TRUTHS IN THEIR BRAINS BUT NEVER PUT THEM TO USE”.

Beloved, God’s word shows you who you are and then helps you become who you are. So, if you don’t do what it tells you to do, you don’t become who you are.

28. June 2016 · Comments Off on DON’T JUST GET HYPED‏ · Categories: Jesus Christ, Revelation, Truth, Words

The Jewish people here were more receptive than they had been in Thessalonica. They warmly and enthusiastically welcomed the message and then, day by day, would check for themselves to see if what they heard from Paul and Silas was truly in harmony with the Hebrew Scriptures (Acts 17:11 VOICE).

Beloved, I remember when a friend and I listened to someone preach at a conference. It was one of those occasions where we were like “I’ve never heard anything like that before”. We were so hyped. Even the host was that at some point, he got up and lay down on the stage and when he couldn’t take it anymore, he went to take the microphone from the speaker; “wait… wait… wait… you can’t just rush through something like that. You need to give us some time to allow this sink in”.

It was that mind-blowing and with many more speakers lined up, I remember telling my friend that there was no point in allowing anyone else speak and that if I was the speaker coming on after him, I would just come out and spend the time prophesying over the people and then send them home. What else do I want to say? LOL.

As the next speaker came up, they had to admit that they had been preaching the gospel for decades but as they listened to him preach, they had to wonder… “isn’t this the same Bible I’ve been preaching from?”

My thoughts exactly. However, after the hype was over, myself and my friend started asking questions; “but if what he said was true, why did Jesus say…?” and I remember my friend say “now we are thinking for ourselves”. Like the Christians in our feature text, we were returning back to the Scriptures to see if the things we heard was true.

Even the host had to spend the next service bringing some balance to what was said. He too had gone to search the Scriptures and felt he had a responsibility to correct some things. “Don’t throw out the baby with the water”, he said. However, there are some things that need to be straightened out.

As I reflected on that episode recently, Apollos‎ came to mind…‎ Apollos, an eloquent speaker who knew the Scriptures well, had arrived in Ephesus… He had been taught the way of the Lord, and he taught others about Jesus with an enthusiastic spirit and with accuracy. HOWEVER, HE KNEW ONLY ABOUT JOHN’S BAPTISM. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him preaching boldly in the synagogue, they took him aside and explained the way of God even more accurately (Acts 18:24-26 NLT).

Beloved, Apollos didn’t have a balanced message and that’s why teaching is so important because it establishes you. Charismatic preaching on the other hand in many cases just inspires you.

Beloved, we are perishing for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6). Don’t just get hyped. According to my mum, 3 people can say different things about the same topic and manage to convince you‎. So true but the truth is that while people may sound convincing, the responsibility still lies on us to search the Scriptures to see if what we’ve heard is true.

18. June 2016 · Comments Off on COME OUT OF PRISON‏ · Categories: Deliverance, Jesus Christ, Obedience, Revelation, Spiritual Growth, Trusting God, Truth, Words

Go out and preach the word!… Reprove, warn, and encourage; but do so with all the patience and instruction needed to fulfill your calling because a time will come when some will no longer tolerate sound teaching. Instead, they will live by their own desires; they’ll scratch their itching ears by surrounding themselves with teachers who approve of their lifestyles and tell them what they want to hear (2 Timothy 4:2-3 VOICE).

Beloved, recently, I had a dream where I found myself in prison. Two men were about to torture me but somehow, I managed to escape. However, as I ran pass the prison doors, after thanking God that I was free, I felt the need to go back in and so I did. But as I walked through the door, I saw a multitude of children being led by some adults who looked like their teachers walking towards the door. When I saw them walking towards the door, I was happy that‎ everyone was coming out of the prison. However, to my surprise, they all took their seats next to tables in the long corridor near the door. The setting looked like they were in elementary school and their teachers where going from table to table attending to them. On one of the tables close to the wall, I saw packets of sweets and chocolates. It looked like it was what they were being fed.

I woke up wondering what the dream meant because I couldn’t understand why they were close to the prison door but not coming out. I later did some research on dream symbols and here’s what I found;

‎Prison represents ‘the world’… ‘captivity and bondage’… ‘place of confinement’ … Satan’s kingdom…

Prisoners represents ‘unbelievers’… ‘captives of satan’… ‘oppression’… ‘addiction’… captives of false religion…

Candy/sweet represents ‘words’… ‘God’s words’… ‘treat’… ‘pleasurable to the flesh, but without spiritual nutrient’… ‘without substance’… ‘Appealing to children or immature believers’…

Beloved, I’ll leave you to decide what you think my dream is saying but my interpretation is that many teachers that are supposed to be bringing people out of the world are just giving them the kind of food that feed their flesh only hence keeping them bound to the world.

However, this is the season that the Lord is raising people that would question the activities of churches. These people would face intimidation from controlling people who would want to make you seem as if you don’t know what you’re talking about but this isn’t the time to give into intimidation. The Lord told Prophet Jeremiah “don’t be afraid of their faces” (Jeremiah 1:8,17)

You’ve gone through a season of isolation and processing. It’s been so intense. Like Elijah, death looked more appealing than life but no matter how many times you begged God to end it, the answer was NO. All you can feel is just a stirring up on the inside. No, you are not crazy. No, you are not proud. No, you are not rebellious. Yes, you are hearing from God and He says it’s time to go and do what I asked you to do.

03. June 2016 · Comments Off on DON’T FOCUS ON THE EXTERNALS‏ · Categories: Jesus Christ, Relationship, Wisdom, Words

Take no notice of his looks or his height. He is not the one, for the Eternal One does not pay attention to WHAT HUMANS VALUE. Humans only care about the external appearance, but the Eternal considers the INNER CHARACTER (1 Samuel 16:7 VOICE).

Beloved, recently, I was telling someone that when the Lord wants to bless you, He usually sends someone into your life. The same thing goes for the devil. When he wants to destroy you, he would also try and send someone into your life and you ought to be careful in this season to discern who’s who. These are usually very appealing people that know how to look the part and unfortunately, we tend to fall for the trap of looking at outward appearances. May be you haven’t but I had a gold medal for being a victim of my own poor judgement.

In our feature text, when all the sons of Jesse came and presented themselves before Samuel, Samuel took one look at the eldest son, Eliab and Samuel said to himself …Surely this is the one the Eternal One will anoint (1 Samuel 16:6 VOICE) but he was very wrong and the Lord made him realise that because outward appearances could be very deceiving.

Beloved, we also have to be mindful of people that know just the right things to say. Don’t be carried away by their words. Always ask the Lord to show you what’s in their heart.

A good example of someone that know the right words to say but are full of deception is Judas Iscariot when… Mary took a twelve-ounce jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard, and she anointed Jesus’ feet with it, wiping his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance. But Judas Iscariot, the disciple who would soon betray him, said, “That perfume was worth a year’s wages. It should have been sold and the money given to the poor.” Not that he cared for the poor—he was a thief, and since he was in charge of the disciples’ money, he often stole some for himself. (John 12:3-6 VOICE).

Jesus was never deceived by Judas Iscariot. He already knew what was in his heart and what he was about to do. He already knew that satan had filled Judas Iscariot’s heart with plans of deceit and betrayal (John 13:2) and Jesus knowing what was already in Judas’ heart said …But I tell you this, not all of you are clean…. He knew the one with plans of betraying Him, which is why He said, “not all of you are clean.” (John 13:10-11 VOICE)

Beloved, I have also been a victim of falling for people because of what came out of their mouth. He or she said this so they must be… well… let’s just say I’ve learnt many lessons and now know not to judge at face value but to listen to what the Holy Spirit is saying and revealing.

02. June 2016 · Comments Off on IGNORE THE DISCOURAGEMENT‏ AND INTIMIDATION · Categories: God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Words

At one point, David and his army marched to Jerusalem to fight the Jebusites who lived there. The Jebusites felt secure behind their walls and were sure David could not enter into the city. They jeered, “Even the blind and the lame could defend this city against you.” Despite the taunts, David and his army managed to capture the fortress of Zion, which became the city of David (2 Samuel 5:6-7 VOICE).

Beloved, are you in a season of your life were you are faced with so much discouragement and intimidation from people? Well, the last thing you can do is to give in to them. In our feature text, David was taunted probably because they wanted to stop him in his tracks but he completely ignored them.

But why do people intimidate others? The text says the Jebusites felt secure behind their walls and unfortunately, we find that most people that intimidate, manipulate or control others use those things as walls to cover up their own brokenness and insecurities. “If I criticise you and highlight your weaknesses, then it would ‎hide the fact that I’m insecure”.

Beloved, David was a man that faced so much discouragement and intimidation. He even faced it from his own brother. As he enquired about the fight with Goliath… when David’s oldest brother, Eliab, heard David talking to the men, he was angry. “What are you doing around here anyway?” he demanded. “What about those FEW sheep you’re supposed to be taking care of?…” (1 Samuel 17:28 NLT).

FEW sheep??? Beloved, do you know anyone who does their best to put you down at any opportunity they get? Why did Eliab have to use the word ‘FEW’? Well, let’s remember Eliab was there when David was anointed king. He was there when Samuel bypassed all the brothers and waited for their dad to go and call David from attending to the said ‘FEW’ sheep he was looking after in the fields (1 Samuel 16:10-12). Eliab was rejected by God so I bet out of jealousy, he wanted to make David feel like he didn’t have what it takes but how did David respond? …. DAVID IGNORED HIM… (1 Samuel 17:29-30 NLT).

Many of us would either get discouraged or try to go over our credentials to prove ourselves but all that’s just a distraction.

And then there was Saul… “Don’t worry about this Philistine,” David told Saul. “I’ll go fight him!” “DON’T BE RIDICULOUS!” Saul replied. “There’s no way you can fight this Philistine and possibly win! You’re only a boy, and he’s been a man of war since his youth.” (1 Samuel 17:32-33 NLT)

I like how the Voice translation put it. Saul said… Don’t be ridiculous—you can’t fight the Philistine. You’re only a youth, and he has been a warrior since his childhood. YOU LACK AGE AND EXPERIENCE.

Beloved, David faced discouragement and intimidation on all levels but his ability to ignore them all got him to his destination. In this season, the enemy is going to use this as a means to try and hinder you but like David, you must ignore and keep moving forward.

…You’ll stand before kings and government officials for the sake of My name. This will be your opportunity—your opportunity to tell your story. Make up your mind in advance not to plan your strategy for answering their questions, for when the time comes, I will give you the words to say—wise words—which none of your adversaries will be able to answer or argue against (Luke 21:12-15 VOICE).

Beloved, how much do you rely on the Holy Spirit to give you what to say? If you are anything like me, whenever I know I am about to face someone, especially when its a difficult situation or it is going to be confrontational, my head goes into overdrive. If I know days beforehand that this is coming, I am already thinking of what to say and even when the time comes and you are talking to me, instead of listening attentively to what you are saying, my head is going over and over what to say back to you but based on what our text says, you probably shut down the Holy Spirit. You don’t give room for Him to speak for you.

However, having said that, I have come a long way. Since I did my counselling course and as I grow in the Lord, I am the case of I’m not where I need to be just yet but I am definitely not where I used to be and as uncomfortable as it may be, those times when I have just said “Holy Spirit please take ‎over and tell me what to say, I am quite amazed of the things that come out of my mouth.

Beloved, there was a time Peter and John were brought before the council of all the rulers and elders and teachers of religious law for interrogation but… then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them… (Acts 4:8 NLT). The Holy Spirit began to inspire Peter to speak such words of wisdom to the point that when they finished speaking… the leaders were surprised and confused. They looked at Peter and John and realized they were typical peasants—uneducated, utterly ordinary fellows—with extraordinary confidence. The leaders recognized them as companions of Jesus, then they turned their attention to the third man standing beside them—recently lame, now standing tall and healthy. What could they say in response to all this? Because THEY WERE AT A LOSS ABOUT WHAT TO DO, they excused the prisoners so the council could deliberate in private (Acts 4:13-15 VOICE).

Beloved, that is the advantage we have when we allow the Holy Spirit to speak for us but we need to get to that point when we train our tongue to just shut it until the Holy Spirit prompts us to speak.

Beloved, are you about to address a difficult situation? If so don’t rely on your own wisdom, ALLOW THE HOLY SPIRIT GIVE YOU WHAT TO SAY.

08. May 2016 · Comments Off on DOES EVERY PART OF YOU PRAISE THE LORD? · Categories: Action, Jesus Christ, Praise, Relationship, Sacrifice, Thoughts, Words, Worship

BLESS (AFFECTIONATELY, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul; and all that is [deepest] within me, bless His holy name!) (Psalm 103:1 AMP)

‎Beloved, what does it mean to praise the Lord with all that is within you? When the psalmist says gratefully praise the Lord with all that is within you, this isn’t about you singing songs of praises or about your dance moves. The Voice translation says… O my soul, come, praise the Eternal with all that is in me—body, emotions, mind, and will—every part of who I am — praise His holy name.

Yes, we can probably all dance like David danced but while others look at the outward appearance, the Lord looks deep within to see our hearts‎. So, beloved, what does He see when He looks deep into your heart?

An example is when Cain and Abel presented themselves before the Lord. We are told that… Abel brought of the firstborn of his flock and of the fat portions. And the Lord had respect and regard for Abel and for his offering, but for Cain and his offering He had no respect or regard. So Cain was exceedingly angry and indignant, and he looked sad and depressed. And the Lord said to Cain, why are you angry? And why do you look sad and depressed and dejected? If you do well, will you not be accepted?… (Genesis 4:4-7 AMP)

‎The Lord had no regard FOR CAIN and his offering! This means that the Lord was not just looking at his offering.

I believe this is when your emotions are in alignment with your praise. Beloved, do you know that you can do all the outward show, sing or say all the right words but what you do or say is the exact opposite of how you feel and think? Your lips says “You are a faithful God” but you are thinking “Really? So, why haven’t I seen Your faithfulness in my life?”

And fair enough, there are times when we are down and our praise is a real sacrifice of but when there’s bitterness, anger, unbelief, disobedience in your heart, how can you truly praise someone you are so bitter or angry with? How do you think that person would respond to your praise knowing what’s really in your heart?

The Psalmist said… let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my [firm, impenetrable] Rock and my Redeemer (Psalm 19:14 AMP)‎. The Voice translation says… May the words that come out of my mouth and the musings of my heart meet with Your gracious approval…

And then is your ‎will in alignment with the will of God? Perhaps, the Lord has been asking you to do something but you ignore Him but then you come before him with praises, what do you think would be His response?

Beloved, perhaps the Lord is asking for your sincere praise today. How are you going to respond?
