If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone (Romans 12:18 AMP).

Beloved, about a week ago, I was faced with a situation where I had the option to confront somebody regarding a very unfair situation that in a nutshell involved what I was entitled to versus what they were entitled to. This situation was very obvious to everyone around and I had made up my mind about the steps I was going to take (I ain’t giving you the outstanding balance) but then, during my morning devotion, the Holy Spirit ministered to me to basically just let it go because in the long run, it wasn’t worth it. Moreover, the Lord had already provided the means to cover the situation so why argue over material things?

Before then and even before the situation occurred, the Holy Spirit had been speaking to me about ‘entitlement’ where we have this tendency to fall out with people over what we think is our entitlement rather than pursuing peace and after this incident, I could fully understand what He had been trying to tell me.

According to the Oxford Dictionary, the word ‘entitlement’ means ‘having a right to something’ or ‘the belief that one is inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment’ and as I began to pay attention to the word, the Scripture where Jesus talked to His disciples about offenses (Luke 17:1) and dealing with unforgiveness (Luke 17:3-4) came to mind. He continued His conversation by talking about how a good servant shouldn’t demand any special thanks for providing their services. A master… does not thank the servant just because he did what he was ordered to do, does he? So you too, when you have done everything that was assigned and commanded you, say, ‘We are unworthy servants [undeserving of praise or a reward, for we have not gone beyond our obligation]; we have merely done what we ought to do.’” (Luke 17:9-10 AMP)

In this illustration, we find that Jesus is simply talking about the things that could bring offense where the servant may think they are entitled to special thanks for providing their services. This can apply to all relationships and many situations. We get offended with people because we feel we didn’t get what we are entitled to and before knowing it, we allow offence, anger and bitterness spread its roots, giving the enemy a foothold (Ephesians 4:26-27 AMP).

Beloved, our feature text says… If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. The message translation says… Don’t hit back; discover beauty in everyone. If you’ve got it in you, get along with everybody. Don’t insist on getting even; that’s not for you to do. “I’ll do the judging,” says God. “I’ll take care of it.” (Romans 12:18-19 MSG)

Beloved, as a servant of God, in as much as my flesh wanted to fight back, I had to make the humble decision to just let it go and it gave me a tremendous amount of peace. Do you need to just let it go?

Delilah said to Samson, “Please tell me where your great strength lies, AND WITH WHAT YOU MAY BE BOUND TO AFFLICT YOU.” (Judges 16:6 NKJV)

What? Did I hear you right? Am I missing something? Why do you want to know? Beloved, will you hear someone make such a statement and not run for your life? Have you ever read Samson and Delilah’s story and wondered what must have been wrong with Samson? He falls in love with this lady and before you know it, she comes up with this classic love line in our feature text.

Delilah was not beating around the bush about it and it’s not like she makes such a statement and then turns around and says… I’m only joking. She tried this line on him three good times and on each occasion, he woke up and found himself bound. Still, he didn’t heed to the warning signs. Its either he felt he was invincible or he was indeed truly bounded (not blinded) by love.

Beloved, you can’t be in a relationship where you become too weak to do anything even when you know your life may be at stake; a relationship where someone has such a strong hold over you. The Bible says… And when she pressed him day after day with her words and urged him, he was vexed to death (Judges 16:16 AMP).

The King James Version says… HIS SOUL WAS VEXED UNTO DEATH. At that point, he didn’t care about his life anymore and so… he told her all his heart (Judges 16:17 KJV) and it was downhill from then on. Delilah was sent on a mission with an attractive price to be claimed when the job was done so she was relentless. He may not have known there was a price on his head but he wasn’t exactly ignorant. Three good times he woke up tied up… Come-on… He also knew the kind of relationship he had with God which he took for granted. Samson was enslaved and the life of a great man of God soon came to an end because He found himself BOUND IN A DANGEROUS UNGODLY RELATIONSHIP.

Beloved, do you feel bound in any relationship? And I’m not just talking of one kind of relationship. It could even be a business relationship. Do you know… It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. STAND FIRM, THEN, AND DO NOT LET YOURSELVES BE BURDENED AGAIN BY A YOKE OF SLAVERY (Galatians 5:1 NIV). You’ve got to take a stand. Why not ask the Lord to help you read the signs clearly? Start asking for strength to break free. There is power in the name of Jesus to break every chain so why not call on His name… if the Son liberates you [makes you free men], then you are really and unquestionably free (John 8:36 AMPC).

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. AND YOU SHALL KNOW THE TRUTH, AND THE TRUTH SHALL MAKE YOU FREE.” (John 8:31-32 NKJV)

Beloved, to be able to enjoy the Christian life and true freedom, we must always live according to God’s truth and not according to the lies we hear from the enemy. I can’t even begin to emphasise how important it is to live by the truth as it is written in God’s word and revealed by the Holy Spirit. It’s so sad to think about how people can be held captive for decades by the lies the enemy whispers in their ears. Jesus said this about satan… He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a falsehood, HE SPEAKS WHAT IS NATURAL TO HIM, FOR HE IS A LIAR [HIMSELF] AND THE FATHER OF LIES AND OF ALL THAT IS FALSE (John 8:44 AMP).

He speaks WHAT IS NATURAL TO HIM… and if you are not careful, he makes the lies that he tells you about yourself sound natural to you. The battle for the truth takes place in our mind. There’s Gods truth and then there’s the lie of satan… The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows) (John 10:10 AMP).

Beloved, God has a plan for our life’s and satan also has a plan to destroy God’s plan. IT IS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND THAT WHOEVER WE AGREE WITH WILL DETERMINE THE COURSE OF OUR LIFE. The enemy is always out to deceive us by tempting us to believe things that are not really true but can become personal realities for us if we buy into the lies surrounding them. He knows that if he can dominate our thinking, he can dominate our lives. If we choose to allow him, he will steal, kill and destroy the life that Jesus has come to give us.

However, the Lord has given us the weapons to overcome satan and His truth is a mighty weapon. It’s up to us to decide to agree with God and dismantle all the strategies of satan… We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:4-5 NLT)

Beloved, when we are deceived, we don’t know, enjoy or live by the truth. Think about it. In what ways is the devil trying to deceive you into believing his lies? What scriptures can you use to counteract his lies?

…let us drop every extra weight, every sin that clings to us and slackens our pace, and let us run with endurance the long race set before us (Hebrews 12:1-2 Voice).

Beloved, I came across something that someone wrote that was spot on. He said he left his wife in the car to quickly run into the shops to get something. However, when he got back to the car, his wife began complaining about the temperature in the car. She couldn’t understand why he left it that high. She went on and on about how she couldn’t breathe and he just allowed her to keep ranting and then he finally asked her “why didn’t you turn the heat down?”

Beloved, I read it and immediately did a screenshot and sent it to a friend with a comment that said “just read this and though of our earlier conversation”

She had just been on the phone to me for a good amount of time complaining about someone in her life that has always been a source of constant stress to the point that she can hardly breathe. She went on to say she’s had enough and is now praying to God to remove her from her life but I told her He may not. God will not do what you can do yourself. He might just leave you there expecting you to exercise the wisdom He has given you.

Abraham comes to mind. He was travelling with Lot whom he wasn’t supposed to be travelling with. Unfortunately, he couldn’t make any headway because of the distractions of having to settle one dispute or the other with Lot and so he finally said to lot… Let’s not fight. I don’t want there to be any animosity between you and me, or between our herders. After all, we’re family. A vast land is out there and available to you. It is time for us to go our separate ways. You choose your land. If you choose east, I’ll go west. If you choose west, I’ll go east—it’s your call (Genesis 13:8-9Voice).

Beloved, there’s nowhere in the Bible that we are told that the Lord told Abraham to separate from Lot. The Lord remained silent. It was only after Abraham had taken the bold and wise step to do so that the Lord spoke… After Lot had gone, the Lord said to Abram, “Look as far as you can see in every direction—north and south, east and west. I am giving all this land, as far as you can see, to you and your descendants as a permanent possession (Genesis 13:14-15 NLT).

This man went on to say that some changes in our lives do not require the presence or permission of people. We are the ones that have to make the change else we remain stuck.

Beloved, our feature text talks about dropping every extra weight and travelling light and there are times when we have to do a stock take; is this person a distraction, always bringing me down; always causing strife etc. If the answer is yes, then you may have to make necessary changes so you can travel light.

… David and his men immediately set out for Jerusalem to take on the Jebusites, who lived in that country. But they said, “You might as well go home! Even the blind and the lame could keep you out. You can’t get in here!” THEY HAD CONVINCED THEMSELVES THAT DAVID COULDN’T BREAK THROUGH. BUT DAVID WENT RIGHT AHEAD and captured the fortress of Zion, known ever since as the City of David (2 Samuel 5:6-7 MSG).

Beloved, you probably know by now that the enemy have vowed to do all he can to prevent you from being who God has called you to be so would use all sorts of tactics to stop you but it will not work as far as you press on in Christ. We read about David who matched on and took what was his despite the enemy’s intimidation.

The NKJV says… NEVERTHELESS DAVID TOOK THE STRONGHOLD OF ZION… but what did he have to get rid of? It was … the lame and the blind, who are hated by David’s soul (2 Samuel 5:8 NKJV).

Zion (Jerusalem) became the centre of Israel’s spiritual life and David had to get rid of the lame and blind standing in his way so for you today, is there anything that has spiritually blinded or paralysed you that you need to overcome?

The text talks about stronghold and while this could be a physical situation, satan also builds mental strongholds in our minds which is defined as a mind-set impregnated with hopelessness that causes us to accept as unchangeable, situations that we know are contrary to the will of God. Because of reoccurring situations, past experiences, family background etc., we develop mind-sets that make us think defeating thoughts like “I’m hopeless, I’m cursed, I’m a failure…” Unfortunately, these presents a false view of God’s reality for your life.

Beloved, even the blind and the lame could keep you out… If your mind is clouded by satan’s smoke screen, it would prevent you from seeing things the way God desires you to see them so you must pull those strongholds down and… we use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:4-5 NLT).

Beloved, you are to use the truth in God’s word as a weapon to drive out these strongholds. You are not a failure; God always leads us into triumph (2 Corinthians 2:14). You are not hopeless… Christ in you is the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27). And you are not cursed because Christ redeemed you from the curse of the Law (Galatians 3:13-14)

Beloved, you’ve probably realised that I’ve been dealing with negative mind-sets and strongholds recently. This is because demolishing strongholds is the greatest breakthrough you can ever have so as you decide to be strengthened by God’s truth, I pray that you take hold of everything the Lord has for you.

03. August 2016 · Comments Off on WHERE DID THIS COME FROM? · Categories: Deliverance, Freedom, Jesus Christ, Power and Authority, Victory

When the crop began to grow and produce grain, the weeds also grew. “The farmer’s workers went to him and said, ‘Sir, the field where you planted that good seed is full of weeds! Where did they come from?’ “‘AN ENEMY HAS DONE THIS!’ the farmer exclaimed… (Matthew 13:26-28 NLT)

Beloved, are you facing sudden strong opposition and are wondering where this has come from? Why the sudden attack? Why the sudden opposition? Well… our feature text tells us of the Parable of the wheat and weeds. The workers were surprised to suddenly see weeds appear everywhere. Where did they suddenly come from? They seemed to appear from nowhere but they did not know that the enemies (sorry I meant to say weeds) have been there hiding all along. It’s only because it’s near harvest time that they now begin to spring up one by one. However, the good thing is that the farmer was not ignorant… “AN ENEMY HAS DONE THIS”… he said. He had been watching all along and was giving them enough time to dig a hole big enough for themselves.

But why now? Well, it’s because it’s your season. I’m thinking of when the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they mobilized all their forces to capture him. BUT DAVID WAS TOLD THEY WERE COMING, so he marched out to meet them. The Philistines arrived and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim. So David asked God, “Should I go out to fight the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?” The Lord replied, “YES, GO AHEAD. I WILL HAND THEM OVER TO YOU.” (1 Chronicles 14:8-10 NLT)

Beloved, the beautiful thing about this story is that they ganged up against David but David wasn’t at all ignorant. While the Philistines were planning and making their way to David, David had already received first-hand information and isn’t it always a joy to know that God, the One that anointed him; the One who says… Touch not My anointed, and do my prophets no harm (1 Chronicles 16:22), is always one step ahead. The Lord promised him victory… GO AHEAD. I WILL HAND THEM OVER TO YOU… and I like how God assures us that… Behold, they may gather together and stir up strife, but it is not from Me. Whoever stirs up strife against you SHALL FALL AND SURRENDER TO YOU (Isaiah 54:15 AMP).

Oh yes, the Philistines came but David repeatedly conquered them… So David’s fame spread everywhere, and the Lord caused all the nations to fear David (1 Chronicles 14:17 NLT).

Beloved, this is also going to be our testimony. The Lord has opened my eyes to so much that it can be overwhelming to even consider where the attack is coming from. However, one thing I’m sure of is that every force that has gathered to stop us would SURELY FALL AND SURRENDER because… we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us (Romans 8:37 AMP).

Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.” ‎ (John 11:43-44 NKJV)

Beloved, yesterday I wrote about the fact that the Lord has need for you and like the donkey that was tied, He is asking that you be untied. As I was praying later on, it was impressed on me that this is a month to be aggressive and speak to every force that has held you bound to let you go.

As scripture says… from the days of John the Baptist until the present time, the kingdom of heaven has endured violent assault, and violent men seize it by force [as a precious prize—a share in the heavenly kingdom is sought with most ardent zeal and intense exertion] (Matthew 11:12 AMPC).

Apostle Paul said…‎ there is a wide-open door for a great work here, ALTHOUGH MANY OPPOSE ME (1 Corinthians 16.9 NLT).

Paul was aware that he was dealing with the opposition of the enemy but one of the things the enemy does‎ is make us believe a lie that he isn’t behind most of the things we are facing. However, the Bible advises that we shouldn’t be ignorant… lest satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices (2 Corinthians 2:11 NKJV). I like how the Voice translation conveys how Apostle Paul put it… It’s my duty to make sure that satan does not win even a small victory over us, for we don’t want to be naïve and then fall prey to his schemes.

Beloved, in our feature text, Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.” ‎

Now, I don’t know who your ‘them’ is and to be honest, many don’t but one good thing is that the Lord who sees all knows who your ‘them’ is and a prayer I’ve learnt to appropriately pray is “Father, from the realm of what You know, deal with this issue and so from His perspective, you are able to call forth every ‘them’ that has held you bound to “Loose me, and let me go.”

So as we start this new month, we are to…

Call forth every ‘them’ that has held our finance bound to “Loose me, and let me go.”
Call forth every ‘them’ that has held our health bound to “Loose me, and let me go.”
Call forth every ‘them’ that has held our bound to “Loose me, and let me go.”
Call forth every ‘them’ that has held our marriage and children bound, to “Loose me, and let me go.”
Call forth every ‘them’ that has held our business, ministries or education bound to “Loose me, and let me go.”
Call forth every ‘them’ that has held our mind bound to “Loose me, and let me go.”
Call forth every ‘them’ that has held our [FILL THE GAP] bound to “Loose me, and let me go.”

As Jesus and his disciples approached Jerusalem, they came to the towns of Bethphage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent two of them on ahead. “Go into that village over there,” he told them. “As soon as you enter it, you will see a young DONKEY TIED there that NO ONE HAS EVER RIDDEN. UNTIE IT AND BRING IT HERE. If anyone asks, ‘What are you doing?’ just say, ‘The Lord needs it and will return it soon.’” (Mark 11:1-3 NLT)

Beloved, there are some people who feel like their lives are like this poor donkey; tied up, feeling ignored as it stays there and watches other donkey’s been ridden by. They go out and come back to meet it in the same spot. Even when it tries to move, it can only go so far because it is restricted by the rope tied around its neck. There may have been feelings of frustration, loneliness, abandonment and rejection. That’s the bad news but the good news is that Jesus did not reject it. He had a plan for it. He knew exactly where it was. He knew it was tied down and apparently what may have seemed like abandonment and rejection to the donkey, Jesus saw as being reserved for a great purpose.

The donkey was reserved for a purpose and that was to usher Jesus into town where He would catch people’s attention; People who would turn around, stop what they are doing and praise Him and when it was time, Jesus served notice… UNTIE IT AND BRING IT HERE and they had no choice but to let it go… As they were untying it, some bystanders demanded, “What are you doing, untying that colt?” They said what Jesus had told them to say, and they were permitted to take it. (Mark 11:5-6 NLT)

No arguments… No fights… No questions asked. I like how the Message translation puts Luke’s version of this story… As they were untying the colt, ITS OWNERS SAID, “What are you doing untying the colt?” They said, “HIS MASTER NEEDS HIM” (Luke 19:31-34).

Beloved, I don’t know who or whatever thinks they own you… addiction… sin… bondage… whatever… Please know that once born again, you only have one Master and that is Jesus Christ. The enemy may think they’ve got you tied down but your Master has need for you and as He places a demand on your life, whatever or whoever has tied you down has no choice but to untie you and let you go.

Why not begin to speak to every situation that as held you bound; Untie me because the Lord has need for me’

If you hear My voice and abide in My word, you are truly My disciples; you will know the truth, and that truth will give you freedom (John 8:31-32 VOICE)

Beloved, during one of my counselling classes, one of the tutors said something that baffled me but it has proven true in so many ways. She said many people don’t like people that study counselling because the course opens you up to a lot of truth and what you would often find is that people that do the course get to know a lot of truths that sets then free; free from the control, manipulation and intimidation of people. You learn a lot about yourself and how and why people behave the way they behave. You then learn what to accept from people, how to set boundaries etc.

I was listening to someone say that one of the reasons some slave masters were able to hold people in slavery was that they could not read the bible and as their masters held up the Bible to read in front of them, the only scripture they read to them was… Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. As slaves of Christ, do the will of God with all your heart (Ephesians 6:5-6 NLT). This happened until one of the slaves got hold of the Bible and started reading it for themselves and that was how they became free in their mind first and it didn’t take long before they were truly free indeed.

Beloved, I said all this to say, this is the same thing the enemy has used to enslave many for years and perhaps the reason why the Lord said… My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6 NKJV).

In our feature text, Jesus is offering the truth that sets one free; hearing His voice and truly abiding in Him. We do this by spending time reading His word for yourselves and when you have questions, asking your number one teacher, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth who will guide you in all truth (John 16:13).

Beloved, there is freedom in Christ. Apostle Paul said… It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery (Galatians 5:1 NIV). Also, Jesus said… “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 NLT).

Beloved, are there any areas in your life that feels like it’s still under bondage? Isn’t it time to PURSUE THE TRUTH‏ THAT SETS YOU FREE?

05. May 2016 · Comments Off on WHAT FEAR DOES TO YOU‏ · Categories: Fear, Freedom, God's Plan, Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ, Relationship

The citizens of Jericho had barricaded themselves behind its high walls because of the Israelite forces. NO ONE COULD GET IN OR OUT (Joshua 6:1 VOICE).

Beloved, do you know what fear does to you? People are plagued with all kinds of fear; The fear of been rejected again, the fear of being turned down again, the fear of been hurt again? The fear of been defrauded again, the fear of being taken for granted again…

Our feature text lets us see a situation where because of fear, the citizens or Jericho barricaded themselves to the point that… NO ONE COULD GET IN OR OUT… Beloved, as I read this, I got a really good picture of what fear does to one. Off course, the citizens or Jericho had every reason to be afraid and it was to the Israelites advantage that they were afraid but that’s not what I want to focus on. What I want to focus on is the walls that we tend to use to barricade ourselves so that yes, those that have the potential to harm or hurt us can’t come in but those same walls are so high that you can’t get out either.

This then means that your walls prevent the right people with the right motives and opportunities from coming in and you end up losing out on the blessings that the Lord has prepared for you.

Beloved, the Bible says… watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life (Proverbs 4:23 AMP). This is great advice but there’s a healthy way of guarding your heart and there’s also an unhealthy way of guarding your heart. This doesn’t mean that you build walls so thick and high that no one can penetrate or jump through. It doesn’t mean that you lock it up and throw away the keys either so you then find yourself in a prison you’ve built for yourself. It does mean that you have to rely heavenly on the Holy Spirit’s counsel, enabling you to discern properly because not everybody that comes your way is out to hurt you or defraud you. If you don’t do this, you become the god of your own life.

The Bible tells us that… God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, WELL-BALANCED MIND and self-control] (2 Timothy 1:7 AMP).

A WELL-BALANCED MIND… is one with reasonable boundaries. One that knows I have to be wise about the people I hang around but I’m not going to allow the spirit of fear rule over me.

Beloved, are you a victim of the spirit of fear? Like the citizens of Jericho, have you barricaded yourself behind high walls to the point that NO ONE CAN GET IN AND YOU CAN’T GET OUT?

Keep meditating on 2 Timothy 1:7
