And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you] (Romans 12:2 AMP).

We are asking the question, what comes with our new identity in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17) and today, I’m writing about ‘A NEW REASONING AND UNDERSTANDING’.

One of the major things that Paul prayed for his converts was wisdom and revelation. Paul said… [I always pray] that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may grant you A SPIRIT OF WISDOM AND OF REVELATION [that gives you a deep and personal and intimate insight] into the true knowledge of Him [for we know the Father through the Son]. And [I pray] that the eyes of your heart [the very center and core of your being] may be enlightened [flooded with light by the Holy Spirit], so that you will know and cherish the hope [the divine guarantee, the confident expectation] to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints (God’s people) (Ephesians 1:17-18 AMP)

With our new identity should come a new understanding of our life and purpose and what’s been made available to us. Without this understanding, we would still be eating from the garbage can instead of dining on the Kings table where we should be seated. This new understanding is what informs the thinking and actions of our dear Princess Kate. She knows that her level has changed.

As God’s adopted children, one of the first things that needs to register in our minds is that we are not to be conformed to the philosophies of this world anymore. Our entire perspective about life (and even about death) changes. Paul said… For to me, to live is Christ [He is my source of joy, my reason to live] and to die is gain [for I will be with Him in eternity] (Philippians 1:21 AMP).

We should now understand things through God’s plan, purpose and present involvement. When we truly know that God’s the One in control, we shift our focus from what the devil is doing to what God is up to?

I’m sure it disappoints the Lord when He says… My people perish for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6). This is because the enemy would continue to reign in the areas of our ignorance; in areas where we are in the dark because that’s his territory.

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

Continue to meditate on this… But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9 NKJV)

God bless you

“You will keep in perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast [that is, committed and focused on You—in both [b]inclination and character], Because he trusts and takes refuge in You [with hope and confident expectation] (Isaiah 26: 3 AMP).

We are asking the question, what comes with our new identity in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17) and so far, using the life of Princess Kate, I’ve written about our ‘NEW NATURE’, new ‘ABILITIES AND POWER’, and ‘A NEW LORDSHIP’ that comes with our new identity. Today, I’m writing about ‘A NEW PEACE’.

Imagine the things Princess Kate no longer has to worry about just because when it comes to providing for the things that she needs; money, food, clothing, security etc., her mind is stayed on the royal family. The understanding of what they own and have access to surely keeps her mind at rest. I’m sure when there’s a problem, she’ll be like… your problem, you fix it… you provide… I am just a partaker with royal privileges. What an inheritance shes come into? She’s got security and I’m sure her inheritance increases as she keeps having those babies. Hmmm… how many spiritual children can you boast of? Just asking

Now, you can’t even begin to compare what the royal family has to what God, the creator of the whole world has. Like King David rightly said… The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness of it … (Psalm 24:1 AMP). King David also said… The Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, to guide and to shield me], I shall not want (Psalm 23: 1 AMP).

Life apart from Christ is filled with fears and concerns but that’s because we were trying to make our own way and make things happen for us by ourselves. However, our trust should be in God because we belong to Him and He is in control of everything that concerns us. Just like Princess Kate now centres her trust on the royal family of which she is now a part of and doesn’t have to worry about providing for herself, as we centre our trust in the Lord, a new peace fills our lives’.

Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours] (Philippians 4:6-7 AMP).

Continue to meditate on this… But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9 NKJV)

“Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” (Genesis 12:1-3 NKJV)

In a world where we tend to be so focused on gen‎erational curses, I read this afresh and the prayer point that came to mind was… “Lord give me a generational blessing… the kind of blessing that would make my children call me blessed‎ and in turn their children would also call them blessed… the kind of blessing that would make people sing a song along the same lines of… Abraham’s blessings are mine… I am blessed in the morning… I am blessed in the evening… Abraham’s blessing are mine…”

Wouldn’t that be nice? I bet we love that this song relates to us as Abraham’s descendants and wouldn’t it just be great if the Lord just decides once again to choose a random family (well… hopefully my family) to bless just because He can – after all He is God and can do whatever He likes. However, like someone so cleverly asked… can you do what Abraham did? Just something to think about. You can decide to make that kind of prayer today, however, you have to decide that you are willing to pay the price if asked to do so. The above scenario started as a result of one man’s decision to obey the Lord and step away from everything that could pollute his new beginning. The Lord said to Abraham… Get out of your country… this was because his background was made up of idol worshippers. Also, when the time came to test what was in Abraham’s heart, he chose the One who gave the blessing and not the blessing.

GIVE ME A GENERATIONAL BLESSING… When people look at your family, they should no longer be able to identify a pattern of generational curses. Rather, let them see the blessings of the Lord.

If you wish, you can decide to make it your prayer from today. Good bye to every kind of slavery.‎.. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery (Galatians 5:1 NIV). As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15 NKJV)… I and the children whom the Lord has given me! We are for signs and wonders… (Isaiah 8:18 NKJV).

What other Scriptures can you pray with?

05. November 2014 · Comments Off on THE CERTAINTY OF GOD’S PROMISE · Categories: Birthright, Blessing, God's Plan, Jesus Christ, Obedience, Patience, Promise, Trusting God

When God made His promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for Him to swear by, He swore by Himself, saying, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.” And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised (Hebrews 6:13-15 NIV).

Can you imagine God saying “I swear by my Almighty self that I promise to fulfil My promise to you”? God is God all by Himself and He does not have to do anything. His word is enough assurance that He will do what He promised and we ought to take Him by His word so why would He swear an oath? It is… because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of His purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, He confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged (Hebrews 6:17-18 NIV).

God has given us double assurance and He did it so we MAY BE GREATLY ENCOURAGED. Have you been waiting on the Lord’s promise for a long while now and it seems like nothing is happening? Have you remained faithful and have done everything He asked of you yet nothing? Have you reached that point where you say… “I’ve heard it all before?” Please don’t let your spirit be down and most importantly, don’t give up on God. God’s promise still stands. Remembering the OATH that He made to Abraham ought to keep you going because you are a heir of what was promised.

We have this hope as an ANCHOR for the soul, firm and secure… (Hebrews 6:19 NIV). An anchor is a strong device used to connect a boat to the bed of a body of water to prevent it from drifting or moving due to heavy wind or current. In the same way, without drifting or moving, hang on firmly to what God has promised because He will fulfil it. Your part is to wait PATIENTLY and be OBEDIENT to Him. God swore to Abraham after testing Abraham’s obedience to offer Isaac as a sacrifice (Genesis 22:15-18). We must be willing to do what God tells us to do regardless of how hard it may seem. Most times, it’s only a test of our obedience.

God is not a man, that He should tell or act a lie, neither the son of man, that He should feel repentance or compunction [for what He has promised]. Has He said and shall He not do it? Or has He spoken and shall He not make it good? (Numbers 23:19 AMP)

There was a low moment in Jacob’s life when he found he had to face his struggles all alone. He needed some alone time to figure out the direction his life was taking so he sent his family away and was all alone. During that period, Jacob happened to have wrestled all night long with an unknown man. At that point in his life, he was running away from quite a few people so it could have been anybody. It could have been his twin brother whom he had stolen his birth right from. It could have been his uncle, Laban or maybe one of his uncle’s sons because… Jacob heard Laban’s sons complaining, Jacob has taken away all that was our father’s; he has acquired all this wealth and honor from what belonged to our father (Genesis 31:1 AMP).

So you see; Jacob was bound to think he was wrestling with an enemy. The battle went on for a while but then as morning drew near, they decided it was time to exchange pleasantries. The unknown man asked for Jacob’s name and Jacob told him. So in return… Jacob said, “Please tell me your name.” But he replied, “Why do you ask my name?” Then he blessed him there. So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, “It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.” (Genesis 32:29-30 NIV)

Ok so it is probably not too polite that our unknown figure did not reply Jacob’s question but what am I trying to say here? Though he didn’t tell him his name, after the long battle that seemed like it would never come to an end; after the long struggle and then the blessing that was bestowed on Jacob, Jacob must have come to the realisation that this can only be God. He said… I SAW GOD FACE TO FACE.

When we go through certain battles in life, they can be so tough that we most often think it is the enemy we are battling with. But it isn’t until the battle it all over and you have prevailed and come out on the other side that you suddenly realise that it wasn’t the devil you were wrestling with. It was actually God.

The purpose of the battle is to change your name and character from what you were previously known by and to give you a new status fit for the blessing of the Lord. If only you can hang in there till it is morning time, one day you too would realise that… THIS CAN ONLY BE GOD

For His anger lasts only a moment, but His favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5 NIV).

DISCLAIMER: Please don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that God is angry with you!!!

My daughter was telling me about an event she attended recently. The place was packed full to capacity and as a result, they started sending people back. Instead of turning back, she went and positioned herself somewhere inside the venue. One usher found her and told her to leave but then she told them… SORRY BUT I AM TOO BLESSED TO BE REJECTED. Obviously taken aback by her respond, the usher smiled and then said… ‘OK, wait here for me, I’ll be right back’. Another usher came along, also trying to get her to leave but again she said… SORRY BUT I AM TOO BLESSED TO BE REJECTED. Surprised, this other usher also smiled and told her to wait there. Soon enough, the first usher came back and told her to follow her. She had found a seat for her and as she sat down, the usher asked… ARE YOU HAPPY NOW? Yes, thank you, my daughter replied. WOW! That’s knowing who and whose you are and wanting something bad enough…

Are we too quick to back down when faced with opposition? Jesus was in town… four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. They couldn’t bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above His head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. SEEING THEIR FAITH, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.” (Mark 2:3-5 NLT)

Jesus also told us of the parable of the Persistent Widow who insisted on getting justice. She went to the wicked judge and demanded… ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’ And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’” (Luke 18:3-5 NKJV)

Jesus later asked… when the Son of Man comes, will He find [persistence in] faith on the earth? (Luke 18:8 AMP). Lord, I pray You will and I pray to be one of them. Don’t you? What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31 NIV)

SORRY BUT I AM TOO BLESSED TO BE REJECTED… That’s my new slogan from now on. Why not try it also and see doors open for you

17. June 2013 · Comments Off on BREAKING PARENTAL BAGGAGE · Categories: Birthright, Blessing, Choices, Deliverance, Jesus Christ, Prayer

There are people born with a bright future, however because of what their parents went through, they alter the course of their lives. For instance, we see some mothers who have suffered in the hands of men training their daughters to be bitter towards men. As a result, instead of having a successful marriage, the daughter ruins it because of how her mind has been polluted. Same with some dads, they train their sons to be hard because of what they’ve experienced and the son ends up becoming heartless… They may look hard on the outside but inside, they are surrounded by pain and they seem helpless.

We are told of a man named Jabez who was more honorable than any of his brothers. His mother named him Jabez because his birth had been so painful (1 Chronicles 4:9 NLT).

The mother named her son after the pain she had experienced and in Hebrew culture names were important. Your name revealed some characteristic about your birth, or a hope for your future and a person would normally manifest what they were called. The Amplified Bible says Jabez means ‘sorrow maker’. Can you imagine what they prophesied every time they called his name?

To be honorable means to be characterized by integrity and guided by a high sense of honor but despite his decisions to remain honorable, he was surrounded by painful situations. Who knows, maybe he was always experiencing broken relationships, disappointments at work or in business or ill health. Every letter that came through the post came with bad news.

However, one day he decided enough is enough. Jabez knew he was in the position to change things because He knew a God who could bring about a change in his life… He was the one who prayed to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!” AND GOD GRANTED HIM HIS REQUEST (1 Chronicles 4:10 NLT).

He prayed to God to bless him and his handiwork and for all round protection from pain. He said God, please do not depart from me because without you I am nothing and would continue in my misery.

Jabez was labelled with sorrow and pain but his prayer reversed the label. Today, you probably don’t think you can do anything about your situation but you are in a better position because Jesus died to set you free from every baggage. He redeemed you from the curse (Galatians 3:13); By His wounds you have been healed (1 Peter 2:24); He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich (2 Corinthians 8:9).

Jesus said…You may ask me for anything in His name and He will do it (John 14:14). Why not pray Jabez’s prayer and as you do so, I pray every parental baggage is broken off your life and you become free to be the honorable person that God has called you to be in the mighty name of Jesus Christ… Amen

I once read a slogan that said, ‘BE YOURSELF BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE IS TAKEN’. This means stop trying to be like everybody else and be the person God has called you to be else your seat would remain vacant. In my experience, the greatest freedom you can ever have is being comfortable in your own skin.

God told Jeremiah… “Before I formed you in your mother’s womb I knew you” (Jeremiah 1:5). I had a purpose in mind for you and as I formed your body, I took that purpose into consideration. The right nose, eyes, voice… everything to fit My specific purpose. However, we tend to forget this. We come out of our mother’s womb and off we go pursuing our own thing. But then God allows us because He knows life has some valuable lessons to teach us which also equips us for His purpose and when its time, He sends us back to the porter’s wheel to be remoulded. This time, it’s spiritual formation and the training process is also designed to fit His particular purpose for us. It’s the time when you drop all the extra baggage you’ve picked up along the way and you’re left with only the things fit for His purpose.

David went through a unique training process where he spent many hours alone with God being developed and equiped with the tools needed for God’s purpose. On the other hand, Saul was also equipped with his own tools but then he thinks he’s is what David needs. Here David… take my armour…

Thank God, David knew who he was and was confident with what the Lord had deposited in him. David put it on, strapped the sword over it, and took a step or two to see what it was like, for he had never worn such things before. “I can’t go in these,” he protested to Saul. “I’m not used to them.” So David took them off again (1 Samuel 17:39 NLT). He must have said… no disrespect sir but God did not train me with all this sophisticated equipment. I didn’t go to a military school to be trained. I’ve been given a different strategy and the weapons I’m trained with is different to yours. What’s more… I don’t see that you’ve been able to successfully use your weapon to fight the Goliath in your life.

If you’re not careful, people would try and turn you into what you’re not. They would try to get you to take the path God has not cut out for you. People tried so hard to make Jesus reign as king on earth but He knew His time had not come. He also knew the path He had to take… I’ve got to go through the cross. At one time, Jesus said… I do nothing on my own but say only what the Father taught me (John 8:28).

What has the Lord taught you? Many people are in bondage today because they’ve come off the path set for them by God. People have put on you what you’re not supposed to carry and you are wondering why you’re not able to function. God will give you power to function; you’ve just got to find what He wants you to use that power for. He’s looking for you right now but He can’t recognise you because you are busy putting on somebody else clothes.

Jesus said… “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, BECAUSE HE HAS ANOINTED ME TO proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free… Luke 4:18 (NIV)

BECAUSE HE HAS ANOINTED ME TO… means the Lord had specific reasons for anointing Him… He equips you with exactly what you need to carry out His purpose. I pray that you go after them and that you learn how to be comfortable using them because the world is waiting for your manifestation.

God bless you

I’ve never been a great fan of wrestling. However, I remember as a child, on Saturday’s, we used to gather round the television to watch wrestling. Those were the days of Mighty Igor and Mil Máscaras. I liked watching them but most times, I would cover my face so I don’t get to see the bunches and slamming. I don’t like fighting and I just can’t understand why people would volunteer to get in to the ring to get slammed and beaten so badly… swollen faces…blood shut eyes…noise bleeding…Lord have mercy. Why would you choose to put yourself through that?

For Christian’s, its different. We don’t have a choice…from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force (Matthew 11:12 NKJV).

We are in a battle. You can chose to get beaten but we can’t say I don’t want to fight…go away. It’s not a case of volunteering and choosing who you want to fight with and unlike the wrestlers, it’s definitely not a physical fight…12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. THEN AFTER THE BATTLE YOU WILL STILL BE STANDING FIRM (Ephesians 6:12-13 (NLT).

The Message translation says – This is no afternoon athletic contest that we’ll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels.

But the good news is that we are fighting from a point of victory and we must use the whole of God’s armor to resist the enemy AND HAVING DONE ALL TO STAND…make sure you’re still standing.

I’ve watched some matches where, the wrestlers make so much noise but after all the hype, they run out of the ring when they face strong opposition and I’m thinking where you are running to? Is it only mouth you’ve got? LOL. I don’t blame you I’ll probably run myself. I don’t like to be bunched and especially not in the face and like I said, when watching, I would cover my face and would only look up when the referee has announced the winner. And I can remember there were times when I couldn’t tell who the winner was because everyone was lying flat on the floor…can’t get up. The fight was so intense. Some stand and fall back down.

We often get into battles like this…Fierce fights…that could take you down…that could make you lose all the fighting spirit in you but we are encouraged…HAVING DONE ALL TO STAND…STAND

So how can we remain standing? We fight the enemy with the truth (putting on the belt of truth). By living right by God (the body armor of God’s righteousness). Remain calm (put on the peace that comes from the Good News -John 14:27). When the enemy says that this is it for you, have faith in the Lord that says the battle is mine (hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil). Fight from a point of victory (put on salvation as your helmet). Use the word of God as a weapon (take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God). And be persistent in prayer (pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere) Ephesians 6:14-18 (NLT).

Remember you are more than a conqueror…DO EVERYTHING TO REMAIN STANDING

Let’s revisit an old story with what is hopefully some fresh insight…Ready?

The Lord appears to Abraham and makes a number of promises including this one… I will bless those who bless you and CURSE THOSE WHO TREAT YOU WITH CONTEMPT. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” (Genesis 12:3 NLT)

A while later, the Lord appears to Abraham again and tells him to circumcise every male among him as a sign of the Covenant He is making with Abraham and his generation. This sign acts as a visible reminder and everyone carrying this sign is under the covenant. Anyone without that sign is not under the covenant (Genesis 17:9-14).

Again, after Abraham passes the Lord’s test by obeying His command to sacrifice his son, the Lord reaffirms His covenant. Genesis 22:15-17 (NET) says – 15 The Lord’s angel called to Abraham a second time from heaven 16 and said, “‘I solemnly swear by my own name,’ decrees the Lord, ‘that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 I will indeed bless you, and I will greatly multiply your descendants so that they will be as countless as the stars in the sky or the grains of sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the strongholds of their enemies.

YOUR DESCENDANTS WILL TAKE POSSESSION OF THE STRONGHOLDS OF THEIR ENEMIES…So here comes David, the giant killer, fully equipped with this knowledge that he is under this covenant promise and Goliath isn’t…He capitalises on it…

1 Samuel 17:26 (AMP) says – And David said to the men standing by him, What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this UNCIRCUMCISED PHILISTINE that he should defy the armies of the living God?

UNCIRCUMCISED PHILISTINE…He stresses this point again when King Saul tries to tell him he’s not able to go to fight against Goliath because he’s only a small boy. David must have thought to himself…you don’t understand, I carry an everlasting covenant…He replied by saying…Your servant killed both the lion and the bear; and this UNCIRCUMCISED PHILISTINE shall be like one of them, for he has defied the armies of the living God! (1 Samuel 17:36 AMP)

And we know the story well…the giant was no match for our Lord. That’s someone that REALLY KNOWS WHAT IT MEANS TO BE UNDER THE LORD’S COVENANT…Giant killers sees promises instead of problems.

Now what about us? Jesus Christ has become the guarantor of a better covenant (Hebrews 7:22) and He is able to save those who come to God through Him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf (Hebrews 7:25).

So are we going to be like David that knew he had an everlasting covenant with the Lord and use it to our advantage against every enemy that comes our way? Are we able to say…You come against me with all your weapons of evil, trials, temptation, depression, sickness, sin…but I come against you in the name of the Lord (1 Samuel 17:45).

Let’s meditate on what it really means to be under a covenant with Jesus. I pray that as we do so, we gain full revelation and start to walk in all His promises which are Yes and Amen

God bless you
