But it greatly displeased Jonah and he became angry. He prayed to the Lord and said, “O Lord, is this not what I said when I was still in my country? That is why I ran to Tarshish, because I knew that You are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and great in lovingkindness, and [when sinners turn to You] You revoke the [sentence of] disaster [against them]. Therefore now, O Lord, just take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live.” ‎(Jonah 4:1‭-‬3 AMP)

Beloved, during one of our prayer sessions yesterday, we were led to our feature text. Here, Jonah is seen to have had this conversation with the Lord where he gave the Lord all his reasons why he didn’t want to go and minister to the people the Lord sent him to. “Why on earth are You interested in them? Can’t You see that they deserve to stay the way they are? Why do you want to extend your grace, compassion, and loving kindness to them?”

So, rather than go to the place the Lord sent him, he went in the opposite direction. The Bible says… But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the Lord… (Jonah 1:3 NLT).

Beloved, you would be surprised to know that there are people whom the Lord has assigned to minister to you in one form or the other but instead of obeying the Lord, like Jonah, they’ve argued or are still arguing with Him; “Lord, why do you want me to go and minister to that person? Can’t You see they don’t deserve it? Lord, why would You send me to go and bless that person, can’t You see that they don’t need it?”

These are some of the arguments they are having with the Lord and so, they have either gone or are deciding to go in a different direction. However, it’s all because of their limited perspective. The devil is also responsible for providing them with a list of excuses because he definitely doesn’t want you to receive what’s coming to you and that’s why we must not be ignorant… We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle… We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:3-5 NLT).

Beloved, we were also led to pray to enforce the Lord’s will which is our model prayer… Our Father, who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:9-10 AMP).

YOUR WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN…

Everyone opposing the Lord’s will has to give up and give in and so be it. SHALOM!

So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you. (Deuteronomy 31:6 NLT)

Beloved, there are things we go through in life were like Apostle Paul said, we get… burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life (2 Corinthians 1:8 NKJV). At such times, we have the tendency to think that the Lord is nowhere to be found but that’s not true at all. I was reading the story of Job yesterday who got to a point where he could no longer bear what he was going through. So, he wished that the Lord would just end his life. He said… Oh, that I might have my request, that God would grant my desire. I wish He would crush me. I wish He would reach out his hand and kill me (Job 6:8-9 NLT).

Well, the irony of this, according to my Bible notes is that “Job thought it would be better to die than to endure all the pain and suffering that resulted from the tragedies he had experienced. He could not know that the fact that he was alive was actually because God had protected him”.

Beloved, isn’t that interesting? When satan presented his request to afflict Job before the Lord,… the Lord said to satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on his person”… (Job 1:12 NKJV). We see this again in Job 2:6 (NKJV)… And the Lord said to satan, “Behold, he is in your hand, but spare his life.”

Job had no idea that it was the Lord that preserved his life. He thought the Lord was out to get him but he had no clue. My Bible notes went on to say that “This prayer should be of great comfort to believers. We cannot always see God’s hedge of protection in a traumatic situation. We can cry out for relief, when God wants us to endure. He knows far more about our situation than we do, and we can trust Him, even as we anguish over unanswered prayer”.

Beloved, I was sharing with someone recently that the book of Job is one of those books we just don’t like to read but unfortunately, we can’t get rid of it. Things we may never be able to explain happen and while I may not know what you may be going through right now, please know that the Lord is right there with you. King David said… Even though I walk through the [sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort and console me (Psalm 23:4 AMP).

You may not have answers right now but all you can do is… Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight or understanding (Proverbs 3:5 AMP).

“‘Relax, Daniel,’ he continued, ‘don’t be afraid. From the moment you decided to humble yourself to receive understanding, your prayer was heard, and I set out to come to you. But I was waylaid by the angel-prince of the kingdom of Persia and was delayed for a good three weeks. But then Michael, one of the chief angel-princes, intervened to help me. I left him there with the prince of the kingdom of Persia. And now I’m here to help you understand what will eventually happen to your people. The vision has to do with what’s ahead.’ (Daniel 10:12-14 MSG)

Beloved, I have come to realise that one of the greatest tactics used by the enemy against one’s destiny is that of confusion. Oh, how the devil loves it when you can’t see your way through and don’t have clarity about your future or next move.

The prayer and fasting of Daniel is a well-known story in the Bible. We are told that there was a time Daniel waited on the Lord and when an angel finally appeared to him with an answer to his prayers, he revealed to Daniel that he was supposed to have been there sooner but he got waylaid by the prince of Persia. So, the prince of Persia waylaid Daniels answer but the question is what was Daniel praying for and why did the devil not want him to receive an answer?

Beloved, the angel of the Lord told Daniel in our feature text that… FROM THE MOMENT YOU DECIDED TO HUMBLE YOURSELF TO RECEIVE UNDERSTANDING…

This lets me know that Daniel was praying for understanding but the devil didn’t want him to receive understanding. So, you can just imagine that the enemy would rather have you ignorant or confused. The opposite of understanding is misunderstanding and with misunderstanding comes misinterpretation. For some people, it just means they remain stagnant but the devil is a liar.

Daniel knew the importance of getting understanding and that’s why he tarried in a place of prayer and fasting until he received the answer he was looking for.

Apostle Paul (used to be known as Saul) was another person that prayed that the scales in his eyes be removed because he couldn’t see clearly. He prayed and… Ananias went and found Saul. He laid his hands on him and said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road, has sent me so that you might regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Instantly something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he regained his sight… (Acts 9:17-18 NLT)

Beloved, there is a war going on for your understanding. The enemy would rather have you blinded but you have to refuse to be confused. Do not be ignorant of the devices of satan (2 Corinthians 2:11). Remember… “The beginning of wisdom is: Get [skillful and godly] wisdom [it is preeminent]! And with all your acquiring, get understanding [actively seek spiritual discernment, mature comprehension, and logical interpretation] (Proverbs 4:7 AMP).
