And behold, a woman who was a Canaanite from that district came out and, with a [loud, troublesomely urgent] cry, begged, Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is miserably and distressingly and cruelly possessed by a demon! BUT HE DID NOT ANSWER HER A WORD. And His disciples came and implored Him, saying, send her away, for she is crying out after us (Matthew 15:22-23 AMPC).

Beloved, have you ever been in a situation where you desperately need the Lord’s intervention and it seems like He is giving you the silent treatment? Does it mean He doesn’t want you to bother Him and hopes that somehow you would eventually get the memo? I don’t think so, but what do you do when you cry out to Jesus and get no response? This woman was in a desperate situation and begged Jesus to help but He ignored her. But did she give up? No! She pumped up the volume until she became a nuisance to His disciples.

That’s the kind of prayer that would make people not want to sit next to you in church because they know you would disturb their comfort. A pastor once said she was in her office one day and disturbed from the noise coming from a lady outside her door, had to ask someone to see if she was alright. She was alright. Just desperately in need of an intervention. This was the Canaanite woman’s case. But that still didn’t do it. Jesus basically said that as an outsider, she wasn’t on His agenda. However, she still didn’t give up. What did she do?… Then she came and WORSHIPED HIM, saying, “Lord, help me!” (Matthew 15:25 NKJV)

Beloved, she WORSHIPED HIM. When you’ve done everything you know to do. Don’t give up. Just WORSHIP HIM. I’ve been told that’s one of the greatest gifts and weapons I’ve got. I really didn’t understand it then but it took the silent years of the Lord to bring the worshipper out of me.

Next, Jesus taught a lesson in humility. Jesus said… “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” (Matthew 15:26 NKJV). A proud person would say “please don’t insult me because I’m begging you for help”. But not this woman. She knew Jesus was her only solution so she humbled herself and she continued to appeal to his mercy and grace (unmerited favour)… And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! LET IT BE TO YOU AS YOU DESIRE.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour (Matthew 15:27-28 NKJV).

Beloved, what did it. WORSHIP… HUMILITY… APPEALING TO HIS GRACE AND MERCY… kept her faith going and brought about her desire. Why not try it and see where it lands you instead of getting frustrated or giving up.

I waited patiently and expectantly for the Lord; and He inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up out of a horrible pit [a pit of tumult and of destruction], out of the miry clay (froth and slime), and SET MY FEET UPON A ROCK, STEADYING MY STEPS AND ESTABLISHING MY GOINGS. And He has put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. MANY SHALL SEE and fear (revere and worship) and put their trust and confident reliance in the Lord (Psalm 40:1-3 AMPC).

Beloved, there are times when we have to go through the trial of waiting to receive the blessings we want from God. This is not always fun especially for those that have a problem with patience. However, like David’s case, the good news is that the Lord will definitely answer you but by that time, you become a living definition of patience.

King David mentions a number of benefits of waiting. Firstly, the Lord SETS YOUR FEET UPON A ROCK, STEADYING YOUR STEPS AND ESTABLISHING YOUR GOINGS… You become established. Every other thing you’ve been relying on fails except Jesus who is our solid foundation… Everything else is sinking ground like the miry clay.

Secondly, MANY SHALL SEE… You become fruitful; you become the world’s greatest evangelist. Those that thought it was all over for you… those that made your story headline news would be baffled when they hear your new song, so this God you always talk about is capable of turning things around… Please take me to Him

However, the biggest benefit I observed is this. King David said… Receiving sacrifices and offerings are not your primary concern. YOU MAKE THAT QUITE CLEAR TO ME! You do not ask for burnt sacrifices and sin offerings. Then I say, “Look! I come! What is written in the scroll pertains to me. I WANT TO DO WHAT PLEASES YOU, my God. Your law dominates my thoughts.” (Psalm 40:6-8 NET)

Beloved, the reason God makes us wait is because He wants our attention. We know how to give Him everything else but what He wants from us is simply obedience to His will; doing what pleases Him. King David said “YOU MAKE THAT QUITE CLEAR TO ME”… The NLT says… NOW THAT YOU HAVE MADE ME LISTEN, I FINALLY UNDERSTAND… I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart.”

Beloved, as you wait on God, He knows how to make you listen so you understand what’s important to Him…doing His will. No other sacrifice or offering comes close. Anyone that has experienced faithfully waiting on the Lord can testify to this. You get the right perspective on your relationship with Him. You reach that point where you say; “here I am Lord… all I desire most in life is to please You and do Your will… I give myself away so You can use me… Here I am to worship… here I am to bow down…

Beloved, are you experiencing prolonged periods of waiting? I pray that you receive the grace to surrender all so that you can watch Him transform you and then that situation around.
