Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. (This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped His feet with her hair.) So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one You love is sick.” (John 11:1-3 NIV)

Beloved, someone once asked me why God seems to delay His answer to a legitimate request. He presents you with a lead and everything seems to point to the fact that it’s going to happen this time. However, the next thing you see is a dead end. Either people suddenly turn cold and lose interest or they start making excuses and the question is “How much longer will THE ONE who can do ALL THINGS just look?”

Well, let’s take a look at the case of Mary and Martha whom we know had a legitimate request but met A DEAD END. Everything in our feature text seems to point to the fact that Jesus had every reason to heed to their request. It was Mary and her sister Martha, very close friends with Jesus. Martha served Him diligently and Mary was a genuine worshipper and it was the one Jesus loved that was sick but oddly, see how Jesus responded to that love… Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. SO WHEN HE HEARD THAT LAZARUS WAS SICK, HE STAYED WHERE HE WAS TWO MORE DAYS (John 11:5-6 NIV).

Beloved, this doesn’t sound right? My brother is genuinely sick to the point of death. Thanks for confirming that I am greatly favoured with Your love for me but then Your response should be to answer me immediately and not stay where You are because You love me. However, what they didn’t know was that His love for their family qualified them to be candidates for Him to do the exceedingly, abundantly above all that they could ask or think; something bigger and better than they expected. They experienced real tears but Jesus showed up in the end. He raised Lazarus from the dead publicly and in the presence of every doubter.

Interestingly, the name ‘Lazarus’ means ‘God is my help’ or ‘God has helped’; not ‘man’ but ‘God’. There are some dead-end situations you face that if God doesn’t help you, you can’t get out and God waits until everyone around you lets you down so that you know He alone is God. It’s a set up. He is working out your faith.

Beloved, we don’t always understand why our manifestation tarries but Lazarus’s story shows that He was only part of the Lord’s bigger picture to show everyone; His friends, disciples and the Jews that He is the ‘Resurrection and the Life’. Surely the maker of the world can do ALL things. The Lord’s response was a resurrection and all Jesus wanted them to do was to believe so they could see the glory of God (John 11:40). Do you believe? Do you need to roll away that stone of unbelief?

When Jesus received the message, He said, This sickness is not to end in death; but [on the contrary] it is to honor God and to promote His glory, THAT THE SON OF GOD MAY BE GLORIFIED THROUGH (BY) IT (John 11:4 AMPC).

Beloved, during one of our daily devotions last week, a story was shared about a woman who had gone through quite a bit in life which left a big void in her life and observing how she was able to pull through and still function despite all the things that had taken place, people began to ask her; “how did you do it?” Well, she said the Lord told her that the space where the void is was the exact spot that has been created to occupy His glory.

Now, this is the kind of gospel we don’t like to hear but I’m thinking of those moments when we worship the Lord and say… “In my life Lord… Be glorified today…” or “For Your glory, I will do anything…”

However, when we say things like this, what are we really saying? I’m thinking of Lazarus in our feature text. He became very ill and his family sent for Jesus but because Jesus wanted to display the glory of God, He waited for Lazarus to die first before He showed up.

The funny thing is that it wasn’t that Jesus wasn’t paying careful attention to Lazarus’ case. He was because nobody came to tell Him that Lazarus had died. In fact, He was the one that told His disciples… Lazarus is dead, and for your sake I am glad that I was not there; it will help you to believe (to trust and rely on Me). However, let us go to him (John 11:14-15 AMPC).

Beloved, Jesus waited for Lazarus to die first before showing up but it was because of His glory. I’m also thinking of Jesus who… close to the time He was to be betrayed and crucified… He looked toward heaven and prayed: “Father, the hour has come. GLORIFY YOUR SON, THAT YOUR SON MAY GLORIFY YOU (John 17:1 NIV).

There’s that word again. Why am I sharing this? It’s because there are things that would have to die in your life… your flesh… character… certain relationships… you name it… but when the Lord is through with your case, He would indeed be glorified.

Beloved, so what has to die in your life for the Lord to be glorified? Jesus said… “Listen carefully: Unless a grain of wheat is buried in the ground, dead to the world, it is never any more than a grain of wheat. But if it is buried, it sprouts and reproduces itself many times over (John 12:24 MSG).

It’s a process… For God knew His people in advance, and He chose them to become like His Son… And having chosen them, He called them to come to Him. And having called them, He gave them right standing with Himself. And having given them right standing, He gave them His glory (Romans 8:29-30 NLT).

No, the wisdom we speak of is the mystery of God—His plan that was previously hidden, even though He made it for our ultimate glory before the world began. But the rulers of this world have not understood it; if they had, they would not have crucified our glorious Lord (1 Corinthians 2:7-8 NLT).

Beloved, have you ever questioned God’s wisdom? Perhaps, you are going through something devastating right now and you just can’t understand what God is up to? Well, He is always up to something even when we can’t understand it.

Referring to the conversation Jesus had with the disciples on the road to Emmaus‎ (Luke 24:13-35), I read a book (Healing the Eight Stages of Life) where the writers said “the despairing disciples began by talking about the tragic death of their friend whom they had counted on to be the Messiah. The disciple’s attitude was “don’t talk to us about God’s wisdom. We haven’t seen much of it in the death of our friend. JESUS SIMPLY SHARED FROM THE SCRIPTURE AND SHOWED HOW EVEN THE EXPERIENCE OF THEIR FRIEND’S DEATH WAS TO BE LIFE-GIVING, PART OF THE WISE PLAN THAT GOD HAD FOR THEIR LIVES””.

It took Jesus to make sense of it and I for one know that it would be so great to just sit down and hear the Lord make sense of our experiences. Something along the lines of… “this is why that happened and this is why this had to happened… and more importantly, where do we go from here?” This is exactly what Jesus did to these disciplines. He opened the Scriptures and started explaining to them that His death was a part of God’s plan all along and they must have been like “I get it now. Lord, You are indeed the wise master planner. You had it all planned out all along and even when the enemy thought he was winning, our feature text tells us that he soon realised that he got played big time.

‎Beloved, we have got to get to the point where we move from despair to embracing God’s wisdom. Joseph told his brothers… you intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people (Genesis 50:20 NLT). When Joseph was going through his ordeal, he had no idea that things would turn out the way they did in the end but he finally got to that place where he embraced God’s wisdom. You too need to do the same even when it doesn’t make sense.

According to one of my bible notes; “One can agree with all the truths in the Bible and still miss the power of God… [which]… cannot be fully grasped by our eight-pound brains. We must approach God humbly as creations, not as those aspiring to fully explain the Creator of the universe.

Beloved, it’s time to… trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take (Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT).

…“Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after this.” (Revelation 4:1 NLT)

Beloved, there was a time Jesus told His disciples… Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:20 NIV)

Jesus told them that it only took ‘small faith’ to move the mountain but my question is; what if you’ve got faith and the mountain still remains where it is? What if you’ve joined your faith with others and it has become massive faith and the mountains still says there’s no way I’m moving from this position? What if Jesus doesn’t want you to remove the mountain because there’s something He wants you to see on top of the mountain? Remember The Transfiguration… Jesus took Peter and the two brothers, James and John, AND LED THEM UP A HIGH MOUNTAIN TO BE ALONE. As the men watched, JESUS’ APPEARANCE WAS TRANSFORMED so that His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as light (Matthew 17:1-2 NLT).

Jesus led them up the mountain and there He was TRANSFORMED and they saw His glory (Luke 9:32). Also, on top of that mountain, once again, the Lord confirmed who Jesus was… a voice from the cloud said, “This is My dearly loved Son, who brings Me great joy. Listen to Him.” (Matthew 17:5 NLT)

Could this be why Jesus wants you to climb that mountain? Is there transformation taking place there? Does God want you to see His glory? Is God speaking and confirming things on top of the mountain? You will also find out that while Jesus was on earth, the top of the mountain was His favourite spot for prayer; a place where He connected with God… Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and He prayed to God all night (Luke 6:12 NLT).

Beloved, are you facing a mountain that refuses to shift? Some mountains we face have their uses. Could there be something up there the Lord wants you to see? And it’s not like you would remain there forever. What I like is that it was Jesus that led them up the mountain and you will also find that they all came back down from the mountain after their experience (Matthew 17:9). You too are no exception. Jesus is with you. Ask Him for the direction you need. Ask Him to hold your hand and trust that you will definitely come back down from that mountain after seeing what the Lord wants you to see.

And My God shall supply all your need according to His riches IN GLORY by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19 NKJV).

Beloved, last Sunday, in church, as I listened to what the Holy Spirit was saying about our feature text, the word “in glory” stood out to me and the Lord began to talk to me about the fact that everything I ever need is found in His glory. I couldn’t shake the word and on Monday, as I joined my prayer partner in prayer, it’s all we could talk about.

We began to talk about Moses who told the Lord… If it is true that you look favorably on me, let me know Your ways so I may understand you more fully and continue to enjoy your favor… The Lord replied, “I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest—everything will be fine for you.” Then Moses said, “If you don’t personally go with us, don’t make us leave this place…The Lord replied to Moses, “I will indeed do what you have asked, for I look favorably on you, and I know you by name.” Moses responded, “Then show me your glorious presence.” (Exodus 33:13-18 NLT)

New King James Version says… “Please, show me Your glory.”

Beloved, this ought to be your prayer which is that… If you don’t personally go with us, don’t make us leave this place… Please, show me Your glory…

As it happens, our prayer experience moved in a way that we hadn’t experienced in a while and the last time we met before then, we humbly came before the Lord to ask for a strategy for moving forward and for some strange reason, we struggled with weakness that weekend. My friend was even given drip because she was worn out. However, as we came together, the Lord took us to what Apostle Paul prayed for.

He said… that He would grant you, according to the riches of HIS GLORY, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man (Ephesians 3:16 NKJV).

HIS GLORY… There’s that word again… The New Living translation says… I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through His Spirit.

Beloved, whatever you need; be it strength or whatever, you would find it when you go after His glory and our prayer should be to pray for His glory to come down like the song that says… “We wait for You… To walk in the room… Here we are standing in Your presence… Shekinah glory come down… Release the fullness of Your Spirit

Beloved, if you are looking for the word from the Lord going forward, it is that you pursue His glory. Meditate on Scriptures and worship songs that speak of His glory and as you do so, ask for His glory to come down till it crushes everything that’s not of Him in and around you and grants you access to everything stored up in His glory.

I do not claim ownership of My words; they are a gift from the One who sent Me. If anyone is willing to act according to His purposes and is open to hearing truth, he will know the source of My teaching. Does it come from God or from Me? If a man speaks his own words, constantly quoting himself, he is after adulation. But I chase only after glory for the One who sent Me. My intention is authentic and true. You’ll find no wrong motives in Me (John 7:16-18 VOICE).

Beloved, these were the words of Jesus Christ. Have you ever come across people that are supposed to be teaching about Jesus but all you hear them do is talk about themselves? Like someone rightly said, it is called idolatry. The New Living Translation puts it this way… So Jesus told them, “My message is not my own; it comes from God who sent me. Anyone who wants to do the will of God will know whether my teaching is from God or is merely my own. THOSE WHO SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES WANT GLORY ONLY FOR THEMSELVES, but a person who seeks to honor the one who sent him speaks truth, not lies (John 7:16-18 NLT).

If we read a few before this, we find that Jesus’ brothers wanted him to go and prove himself before people. They said… Let’s get out of here and go south to Judea so You can show Your disciples there what You are capable of doing. No one who seeks the public eye is content to work in secret. If You want to perform these signs, then step forward on the world’s stage; don’t hide up here in the hills, Jesus (John 7:3-5 VOICE).

Like I said, His brothers wanted him to go prove himself and this was mainly because… they did not yet believe in Him, just as the people in His hometown did not see Him as anything more than Joseph’s son (John 7:5 VOICE). Well, Jesus could have decided to use the opportunity to prove Himself but He teaches us a lesson here which is that we should never let people push us into doing anything just to validate ourselves. How did Jesus respond to His brothers? He said… My time has not yet arrived; but for you My brothers, by all means, it is always the right time (John 7:6 VOICE).

Beloved, motives are important to the Lord. It should be all about the One who sent you. This is why when He had removed Saul… He raised up David to be their king: of him He testified and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart [conforming to My will and purposes], who will do all My will.’ (Acts 13:22 AMPC)

Beloved, Jesus made it clear that… “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing His work (John 4:34 NLT). So, in whatever you do, don’t always make it about yourself.

[The Man] asked him, What is your name? And [in shock of realization, whispering] he said, Jacob [supplanter, schemer, trickster, swindler]! And He said, Your name shall be called no more Jacob [supplanter], but Israel [contender with God]; for you have contended and have power with God and with men and have prevailed (Genesis 32:27-28 AMPC).

Beloved, we know the story of Jacob who spent a considerate amount of years running away from his brother because he stole his birth right and blessings. However, after having a taste of his own medicine from Laban… Then the Lord said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your father and grandfather and to your relatives there, and I will be with you.” (Genesis 31:3 NLT)

Beloved, the Lord’s instruction meant that Jacob had to go back and face his brother but not without wrestling it out with God first; a battle that resulted in a change of name and character. He was no longer Jacob, the supplanter, schemer, trickster, swindler. He was now Israel.

So, what happened next? We are told that Jacob went ahead to face his brother and… he bowed to the ground seven times as he approached his brother. But Esau ran to meet him. He embraced Jacob, kissed his neck, and they both cried (Genesis 33:3-4 Voice). So, why was it easy for Esau to receive his brother after everything that took place between them?

I remember someone saying it’s because Esau met with Israel and not Jacob. It was Jacob he had an issue with but Jacob was no more. He was dead.

Beloved, what am I trying to say? The word of God says… When a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him (Proverbs 16:7 AMP). The Voice translation says… When people make good choices, He is pleased; He even causes their enemies to live peacefully near them. The Message translation says… When God approves of your life, even your enemies will end up shaking your hand.

One thing I always tell the people I mentor or anyone I’m giving counsel to is that they shouldn’t focus on the people that have issues with them. Rather, your focus should be on working on improving yourself and pleasing the Lord. Yes, people may have a valid reason for pointing the finger at you or they may not, however, there’s nothing like ceasing every opportunity to grow. That’s what the Christian journey is about… And we all, with unveiled face, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed into His image from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:18 AMP).

Like the Apostle of my church would say #pre-me-glow… Same thing as saying “watch me glow or transform before your very eyes”

Beloved, today is the last day in November and we are about to enter December, the last month of 2016 and it’s another opportunity to reflect and examine your ways. In what areas has the Holy Spirit been dealing with you?

…He went ahead and directed His disciples, “SIT THEM DOWN IN GROUPS OF ABOUT FIFTY.” They did what He said, and soon had everyone seated. He took the five loaves and two fish, lifted His face to heaven in prayer, blessed, broke, and gave the bread and fish to the disciples to hand out to the crowd. After the people had all eaten their fill, twelve baskets of leftovers were gathered up (Luke 9:14-17 MSG).

Beloved, a couple of days ago someone asked me the question “what is God saying for the month of April?” and based on what He has been highlighting in my life for a couple of weeks now, my reply was that it’s time for order and focus. The Lord began to speak to me immediately after my last meeting where the only thing I could see on the day was how disorganised I was. It so stole my joy that day that I had to repent before the Lord. That was when He began to speak to me about order and focus and since then, I’ve had to do a proper review of every single thing that was highlighted so that I could organise things better for future meetings.

In our feature text, before Jesus could miraculously feed the 5000, He ordered His disciples to organise the people. The Voice translation says… organize them in little communities of about 50 people each and have them sit down… There would have probably been chaos if they hadn’t done that.

Only a few days ago, using the creation story, I was listening to some differentiate between God’s anointing and His Glory.

In the beginning… the earth was formless and void or a waste and emptiness, and darkness was upon the face of the deep…. The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. God saw that the light was good (pleasing, useful) and He affirmed and sustained it; and God separated the light [distinguishing it] from the darkness (Genesis 1:2-4 AMP).

They said that with all that disorder, the Holy Spirit was still present and moving but there was no glory. It was only when God started to speak things into place that you could see His glory …GOD SAW THAT THE LIGHT WAS GOOD (PLEASING, USEFUL)…

Illustrating this point further, they went ahead to use my beloved country in Africa saying that some of the most anointed men of God that they knew came from that country. However, because there’s a lot of disorder and chaos, we fail to see God’s glory.

The Greek word for light used here is ‘Photismos’ and one of its meaning is ‘illumination’ which means light that comes into a room… that shines on something…. that shines on your darkness. It also means knowledge or understanding and the Lord has been revealing to me that for me to begin to see His glory in my life and ministry, I need order and focus which also involves separating myself from some things.

Beloved, do you also need order and focus?
