FOR GOD IS NOT UNJUST. He will not forget how hard you have worked for Him and how you have shown your love to Him by caring for other believers, as you still do (Hebrews 6: 10 NLT).

Beloved, only yesterday, someone told me that they won a HUGE sum of money and I was almost tempted to say, Lord, WHAT ABOUT ME? I’ve been labouring and praying and fasting for a sudden supernatural supply. However, I remembered the message of yesterday titled ‘WHAT ABOUT ME?’ and couldn’t help but think God You are so funny. You sure prepared me for this one.

Beloved, have you ever felt God was unfair? You’ve been waiting on His promises. You’ve been faithful and have done everything He asked you to do but nothing and it just seems like He bypasses you. So, now you are like… well… whatever… Your heart has become sick (Proverbs 13:12). Is that you? Please don’t let your spirit be down. Keep doing what you know to do. God’s promise still stands. Our feature text lets us know GOD IS NOT UNJUST. The Chapter goes on to talk about God’s promise to Abraham. Since there was no one greater to swear by, God took an oath in His own name, saying: “I will certainly bless you….” (Hebrews 6: 13-14 NLT)

Can you imagine God saying: “I swear by My Almighty self that…”?

Beloved, God’s word is enough to assure us that He will fulfil His promises and we are meant to take Him by His word. But then, He takes it a step further… God also bound Himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be PERFECTLY SURE THAT HE WOULD NEVER CHANGE HIS MIND. So God has given both HIS PROMISE AND HIS OATH. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to Him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a STRONG AND TRUSTWORTHY ANCHOR for our souls… (Hebrews 6:17-19 NLT)

Isn’t that reassuring? However, I must stress that our continued OBEDIENCE and SACRIFICE is important. God swore to Abraham after Abraham obeyed His command to offer Isaac as a sacrifice. We must be willing to and keep doing what God tells us to do regardless of how hard it may seem. The other thing is to be PATIENT… Then Abraham waited patiently, and he received what God had promised (Hebrews 6:15).

Beloved, an anchor is a strong device that is used to connect a boat to the bed of a body of water to prevent it from drifting or moving due to wind or current. This is to say that you should hang on firmly to what God has promised. He will fulfil it… For as many as are the promises of God, in Christ they are [all answered] “Yes.” So through Him we say our “Amen” to the glory of God (2 Corinthians 1:20 AMP). Can I hear an amen?

Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship (Romans 12:1 AMP).

Beloved, hopefully, you are familiar with the popular worship song titled “All Heaven Declares” where the lyrics of the chorus says… Forever You will be the Lamb upon the throne. I GLADLY BOW MY KNEES and I worship You alone…

I GLADLY BOW MY KNEES…

Well, some say ‘THE KNEE’ but the million-dollar question is: what about your heart? I remember someone saying you can be on your knees in worship… you can even lie flat on your stomach in worship while your heart is standing tall. How? Let’s take a look at two examples in the Bible…

We know of King Saul who disobeyed God but still had a thanksgiving service at church to thank the Lord for what He had done. He said… my troops BROUGHT IN THE BEST of the sheep, goats, cattle, and plunder to sacrifice to the Lord your God in Gilgal.” But Samuel replied, “WHAT IS MORE PLEASING TO THE LORD: YOUR BURNT OFFERINGS AND SACRIFICES OR YOUR OBEDIENCE TO HIS VOICE? Listen! OBEDIENCE IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE, and SUBMISSION IS BETTER THAN OFFERING the fat of rams (1 Samuel 15:21-22 NLT).

On the other hand, we have Abraham. The Lord said… Abraham, go on… sacrifice your son to Me and please make no mistakes about it; I mean… Isaac, whom you love so much (Genesis 22:2 NLT).

OK, Sir… I’ll do as You say. Abraham referred to it as worship. He told his servants… “The boy and I will travel a little farther. WE WILL WORSHIP THERE, and then we will come right back.” (Genesis 22:5 NLT)

Beloved, the Lord was not for one bit interested in him sacrificing Isaac but He allowed Abraham go through the whole ceremony to see what was in his heart… Abraham built an altar… tied his son, Isaac, and laid him on the altar… Abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice. At that moment the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!… Don’t lay a hand on the boy!… “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.” (Genesis 22:9-12 NLT)

Beloved, the Lord is not interested in what’s in our hands or our outward display of worship but what’s in our heart. OBEDIENCE… SUBMISSION… these are the things the Lord looks at when we come to Him in worship. Abraham gave his heart to the Lord. Are you struggling in the area of obedience? Are you giving your heart?

Remember… and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul (life), and with all your mind (thought, understanding), and with all your strength.’ (Mark 12:30 AMP)

O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? (1 Corinthians 15:55 KJV).

Beloved, A VERY HAPPY EASTER TO YOU.

We serve a living God who cannot be found in the grave. His enemies crucified Him and thought it was all over. They thought they could get rid of Him; that that was the end… but God raised Him from the dead, freeing Him from the agony of death, because it was IMPOSSIBLE for death to keep its hold on Him (Acts 2:24 NIV).

Beloved, if God knew He was going to raise Jesus from the dead, why did He allow them to crucify Him in the first place? Why does God give the enemy any chance to carry out his evil plan? Simple! It is because God is using him to accomplish His own plan. All those that crucified Jesus did not realise that they were a big part of God’s ultimate plan to save mankind.

God allowed the enemy to think he was in charge for a while. They tortured Jesus and gave Him the death sentence hoping that it would silence Him once and for all but… none of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory (1 Corinthians 2:8 NIV).

I can only imagine the look on their faces when they realised that they had been played. There’s nothing worse than knowing your carefully thought out plan backfired. A typical… ‘you intended to harm me, BUT God intended it all for good’ (Genesis 50:20) moment. Isn’t it very humiliating to know that you were the one that got played in your own game? Jesus… having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross (Colossians 2:15 NIV).

More than 2000 years ago, the enemy thought he was smart by trying to kill Jesus but he didn’t realise that it wasn’t actually death but the birth of many. Jesus said… Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds (John 12:24 NIV).

As Christians around the world celebrate the risen Lord today, let this be an encouragement to you. The enemy would be taken unawares when it comes to a sudden change in your situation… as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”—the things God has prepared for those who love Him (1 Corinthians 2:8-9 NIV).

Meanwhile, Jesus was in Bethany at the home of Simon… While He was eating, a woman came in with a beautiful alabaster jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard. SHE BROKE OPEN THE JAR and poured the perfume over His head (Mark 14:3 NLT).

Beloved, the whole of last week, I focused on the story of this woman breaking her Alabaster jar because it was what the Lord was speaking to me about as I prepared for a women’s conference that week.

I was one of several speakers to minister and I thought I had done the text justice but then, there was something another speaker shared on the topic that gave me some new revelation. She said she once saw an Alabaster jar in a museum and contrary to the picture we have in our minds, the jar was made of marble. So, this means that when you picture this woman breaking her Alabaster jar, you’ve got to firstly picture that it took a lot of strength and effort to break it and secondly, it didn’t break in one go. She must have kept at it, smashing it repeatedly until it broke to pieces. There must have been many layers to break through. Immediately she said that, I wasn’t sure I wanted to continue listening to her because the Holy Spirit immediately started expounding what she was saying.

Beloved, have you ever asked the Lord “how much more breaking do I have to go through?” I received the answer to that question and immediately started to see many layers to be broken so that the Lord can get pure worship and service out of us.

Just I had imagined, in another session, another speaker started ministering directly to me saying that there’s still more layers to be broken off me in order for me to function properly in the mantle on my life and I honestly wanted to ask; “can you please explain exactly what you mean by broken? Are we talking layers of fat here?” LOL. She went on to tell the host that there was a reason why the Lord asked her to send for me because the event was for me.

‎Beloved, I didn’t know whether to be happy or cry. When I later told my friend what happened, she said “Amen! More Lord… we want more” but I had to ask “more brokenness???”

I went on to search for images of an alabaster jar and yes, I definitely saw some marble jars. I then decided to do a word study on the word ‘broke’ used in our feature text and it comes from the Greek word ‘suntribó’ which means to ‘break by crushing, break in pieces, shatter, crush, bruise’. It is also associated with another word ‘tribos’ which means a worn path, beaten way, road, highway and it figuratively means the “route” established by the Lord, where people can best know Him.

“How much more breaking do I have to go through?”

Beloved, perhaps yours is also a thick layer to break through. Meditate on 2 Corinthians 12:8-10

Some of those at the table were indignant. “Why waste such expensive perfume?” they asked. “It could have been sold for a year’s wages and the money given to the poor!” So they scolded her harshly. But Jesus replied, “Leave her alone. Why criticize her for doing such a good thing to me? You will always have the poor among you, and you can help them whenever you want to. But you will not always have me. She has done what she could and has anointed my body for burial ahead of time. I TELL YOU THE TRUTH, WHEREVER THE GOOD NEWS IS PREACHED THROUGHOUT THE WORLD, THIS WOMAN’S DEED WILL BE REMEMBERED AND DISCUSSED.” (Mark 14: 4-9 NLT)

I TELL YOU THE TRUTH, WHEREVER THE GOOD NEWS IS PREACHED THROUGHOUT THE WORLD, THIS WOMAN’S DEED WILL BE REMEMBERED AND DISCUSSED…

Beloved, I hope I haven’t managed to bore you the whole of this week but finally, we are taking a look at the reward of this woman whose actions caught the attention of Jesus and today, we are looking at it from the response that Jesus gave to the naysayers in the gospel according to Mark.

Mary in this story probably had no idea at the time she made a decision to do what she did that it had great significance and I bet she must have been very surprised at Jesus’ response. She had no idea the impact her sacrifice and worship was to have on Jesus but not just Him, there’s also the impact for the future generations to come and this is something we are still talking about today.

This tells us that what we are willing to do today could have impact on the future generations and whenever something has such a great impact on the future, it normally costs the one making the sacrifice.

People that end up making history would always tell you that there was a big price to pay but let’s hear what else Jesus had to say. He said… she has done what she could‎. Beloved, we are back to the matter of the heart again. Jesus was more or less saying I know the effort she had to put in to go do what she did and she did it with her whole heart.

Beloved, have you ever found yourself saying I did what I had to do? It’s a case where you know that desperate times call for desperate measures.

It was a costly sacrifice but it paid off and because her motives where right, her sacrifice wasn’t contaminated. It was all about bringing about the will of God to come to pass and ultimately advancing the kingdom ‎of God.

Beloved, is this what giving attention to? Why not begin to make your worship time be more about asking the Lord for His plans for your future… for the future of your children… for the future of the next generation… and whatever He impresses on your heart to do, do it.

Then Mary took a twelve-ounce jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard, and she anointed Jesus’ feet with it, wiping his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance (John 12:3 NLT).

Beloved, for this woman to do what she did, she must have been contemplating about it for a while but then one day, she made up her mind that today was the day. No more delay and right now, I’m even thinking of Esther. Mordecai put her up for the greatest challenge of her life and as she was coming up with excuses, he said to her… if you remain silent at this time, liberation and rescue will arise for the Jews from another place, and you and your father’s house will perish [since you did not help when you had the chance]. And who knows whether you have attained royalty for such a time as this [and for this very purpose]?” (Esther 4:14 AMP)

It was Esther’s moment to act. She had to make up her mind that day and what did she do?… Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: “Go and gather together all the Jews of Susa and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will do the same. And then, though it is against the law, I will go in to see the king. If I must die, I must die.” (Esther 4:15-16 NLT)

Beloved, there has got to be a day that you make up your mind and say today is the day. For many people that make history, it took one decision made on a particular day to turn things around for them.

For Mary, it was her breakthrough day. It was a day she broke from the ordinary into the extraordinary. It was the day she decided to break through from worry into true worship. It was the day where she had to say “I don’t care about my reputation and how I look in front of people”. I must do what I need to do to catch Jesus’ attention and there has got to be a day when we too say I’m willing to make that decision.

However, one of the things that the Bible warns against is a double minded person who… is unstable in all his ways (James 1:8 KJV).

This is someone that makes up their mind one day but changes it the next day and then, changes it again the next day. Their mind is everywhere. For me, once I’m led by God to do anything, I immediately commit myself before fear and doubt takes a hold of me.

Beloved, don’t be double-minded and unstable in your ways‎. If you need to ask the Lord for wisdom and direction, then do so and He is sure to give you a leading. After all, the Bible says… The steps of a [good and righteous] man are directed and established by the Lord, and He delights in his way [and blesses his path] (Psalm 37:23 AMP).

Jesus replied, “Leave her alone. She did this in preparation for my burial. You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.” (John12.7-8 NLT)

Beloved, as I continue to meditate on this story, another question asked is; How did Jesus feel about what this woman did? This is because most times when we want to do things for people, one of the first things we think of is; “are they going to think this is an insult?”

Was Jesus embarrassed by what this lady did? After all, this is this ladies’ hair on His feet. Was He irritated? Did He feel she was disrespectful? Was He thinking how dare this woman touch Me like that in public in front of everybody. Doesn’t she know who I am? Or was He pleased that finally someone was willing to do something radical for Him and the kingdom of God.

And then, did Jesus have a need for what she did? ‎Yes, He sure did. He said… Leave her alone. She did this in preparation for my burial. ‎Unfortunately, there are many things that Jesus needs from us to move the kingdom forward and He is actively searching for willing vessels who are willing to pay the cost regardless of how much it cost them; regardless of their reputation.

Beloved, light someone highlighted, what’s interesting about this story is that there’s nowhere in the Bible where it says Jesus commanded this unforgettable sacrifice from this woman. It was her decision to do this. It was her decision to break out of her comfort zone and out of her fear. It was her choice to break through the crowd with its cultural codes and customs… with its set rules and traditional ways of doing things and it was what was needed.

Jesus did not ask her to give Him her life savings. Nevertheless, she sacrificed her greatest treasure and did something Jesus was in need of and she was commended for it. Now, did Jesus know this was going to happen before hand? I’m sure He did which reveals that Jesus ‎sees you where you are. He hears your very heartbeat and what you are currently contemplating and is probably waiting for you.

Are you willing to break out of what is to break in to your new dimension?

Apostle Paul said… Dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all He has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship Him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect (Romans 12:1-2 NLT).

Beloved, God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect could just be waiting on you to make that move.

Then Mary took a twelve-ounce jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard, and she anointed Jesus’ feet with it, wiping His feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance (John 12:3 NLT).

Beloved, as I continue to meditate on and explore this woman’s story further, I can’t help but wonder what her true motives‎ were for doing what she did because that is very important.

From how Jesus replied to Judas (John 12:7), we can tell that He knew there was a need for this woman’s sacrifice but what about this woman? Yes, it made a tremendous difference in the life of this woman but what was her true motives? Was it to make a name for herself?

What are your true motives for doing what you are doing? What are your motives for wanting to catch the attention of Jesus? Have you ever thought to yourself how He would evaluate them? Don’t forget it is His attention we are trying to catch.

What could Jesus be saying about your sacrifice because at the end of the day, it’s not about what the crowd is saying and the impression you want to give them. It’s not about the anger and indignation or the accusations of those people like Judas who appeared close to Jesus at the time.

No! No! No! It is always about what Jesus says and what He thinks that really matters and that should always be your focus.

This is why it is so important that whatever we do for the Lord should be done with a pure heart and for His glory or else Jesus is definitely not in it and whenever that’s the case, your actions and sacrifice would just be a waste of time and resources.

For me, this is definitely the time to pull up one of my favourite scriptures that says… Search me, O God, and know my heart; test my thoughts. Point out anything you find in me that makes you sad, and lead me along the path of everlasting life (Psalm 139:23-24 TLB).

I like how the New English Translation puts it… Examine me, and probe my thoughts! Test me, and know my concerns! See if there is any IDOLATROUS TENDENCY IN ME, and lead me in the reliable ancient path!

IDOLATROUS TENDENCY IN ME… In my own interpretation… any tendencies in me that causes me to exalt myself rather than Jesus who should always take the centre stage.

King David said… May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer (Psalm 19:14 NLT).

So, this lets us know that it’s not just what you say that matters. It’s also a matter of the heart and I pray that we all come to that place where we catch the attention of Jesus because of the pure motives of our hearts.

But Judas Iscariot, the disciple who would soon betray Him, said, “That perfume was worth a year’s wages. It should have been sold and the money given to the poor.” (John 12:4-5 NLT)

Beloved, “what are you willing to do to catch the attention of Jesus?” is a question I’ve been asked to meditate on this week and one of the things that has been highlighted is that it’s almost impossible to make an impulsive move without attracting the attention of naysayers who would try to oppose you.

However, you must know that this is a natural reaction for anyone that’s trying to break out the norm. I can write a whole book about it. You are bound to acquire many enemies along the way but just remember that… when a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him (Proverbs 16:7 AMP).

Beloved, people are bound to criticise you because you are doing something different. Some may frown at you and others may react to you with anger and indignation. I’m actually dealing with the case of a lady that’s been receiving a number of hate letters and I really wish I could say it’s not from people inside her church but unfortunately, it is, because this are threats asking her to leave the church else…

However, she has made the decision not to allow their threats distract her. On the contrary, it’s time to ask what they are afraid of.

Beloved, once this woman Judas was referring to in our feature text had the impression to do what she did, she probably didn’t take counsel from people because if she did, they may have infected what she was about to do with their opinions, fear, doubt and criticism ‎etc.

Beloved, ‎you can’t let people distract you. All you need to do is take courage from what Jesus had to say to this woman’s naysayers… Jesus replied, “LEAVE HER ALONE. She did this in preparation for My burial. You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have Me.” ‎(John 12:7-8 NLT)

LEAVE HER ALONE… This is also a command that speaks to that fear‎ that wants to take over because you are leaving the security of the boat to do something you’ve never done before. But you have to remember… God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control] (2 Timothy 1:7 AMP).

And then, if you are doing it out of the love you have for Jesus, you must know that… love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced His perfect love (1 John 4:18 NLT).

Beloved, it’s your motives Jesus is looking at more than anything else… Don’t let people or fear stop you.

So they gave a supper for Him there. Martha was serving, and Lazarus was one of those reclining at the table with Him. Then Mary took a pound of very expensive perfume of pure nard, and she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume (John 12:2-3 AMP).

Beloved, is it possible to catch the attention of Jesus? If your answer is yes, then are you willing to catch His attention? If again the answer is yes, then what are you willing to do to catch His attention? Aren’t you tired of staying the same?

Throughout the Bible, we hear of a number of people that made desperate moves to get the attention of Jesus. There was the woman with the issue of blood who took a massive risk against the tradition and ways of the time to catch the attention of Jesus. There was also blind Bartimaeus who screamed like a lunatic until he caught the attention of Jesus and as a result, he got his sight back (Mark 10:46-52). And then, there was Zacchaeus, the very short tax collector who climbed up a tree just so Jesus could notice him (Luke 19:1-10). He also caught the attention of Jesus.

The list goes on but in our feature text, we are introduced to a woman who did something very remarkable. She took something that was very precious and costly to her and she anointed the feet of Jesus. It was an act that could hardly go unnoticed because the fragrance of what she did filled the whole room to the point that not only Jesus perceived it, everyone around her also perceived the aroma of her sacrifice… the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

Beloved, what will you do that would go unnoticed by Jesus and all the people around you? What are you willing to surrender to Jesus that would make a remarkable difference in your life?

It was only recently that I realised that the famous worship song; ‘Withholding Nothing’ by William Mcdowell with lyrics that says “I surrender all to you… Everything I give to you… withholding nothing…” is not just a worship song that gives you goosebumps as you sing to it. There’s a corresponding sacrifice which can be very costly.

What this woman brought as an act of worship to Jesus was very expensive but she did not hesitate to do it. She quickly broke it before Him… surrendering all to Him… withholding nothing…

The fragrance of her costly sacrifice filled the atmosphere. It was hard not to. It didn’t go unnoticed. Isn’t it time to stir up and change your atmosphere? It could be as simple as letting go of everything standing in your way. Isn’t it time to do something radical that could ‎unlock your breakthrough?

But I must warn you; it would definitely stir up some strange conversations and get you in some people’s bad books… but it could be worth it…

Allow the Holy Spirit minister to you if He hasn’t already started…
